Good morning everyone
Good morning, car.
Spring here has been a complete washout. Three freeze warnings in April and chilly rain many days, including today. My winter coat is usually put away by now. Blech.
Rainy and cold here today but I 'think' we are heading into a nice 5 day stretch
Looks like a little hope in our forecast too. I am looking forward to warmer days.
We usually have not been turning on the heat in late April
hi all. missing the 8s and 9. clues welcome. ty
I am usually in sandals full time in April. Due to the weather and my lack of a decent pedicure, that ain't happenin'.

Typically I go through each tile on the board twice without looking at the Tile Stats, then look at the tile stats and see which ones I have most left of, and go after those tiles
this
hi hokie
Moo i do the same :)
Sometimes I do get distracted tho :)
Carla, I can not find you instagram account. What am I doing wrong?
I start top left and go L to R down seeing how many I can get at each tile - I try to get half - then I scan through list looking for plurals, etc. - then I try to figure out the 4's I'm missing.
Hok thats the method i use also.
Interesting folks are talking about their approach. I was thinking of asking people about it.
I finally found a 6
Bea, try HotHokie1 : D
hmm, I'm not sure Bea. it is private but I thought you can find it and then request to follow. let me go check.
Maybe it is because it is private. I did a search and got nothing.
try my dog's, then you would see me as a follower on that one I think.
Interesting hoke, maybe I'll try that approach some time. I tend to forget about the 4s, figure they'll come without active looking, but sometimes end up with a lot still
well, going to go walk for a bit, back later
yeah, I just started doing the 4's thing once I realized I sometimes have 10+ left. should be easy to find them.
does anyone have a word from the 4th column n?
nope (it's not nope)

Well, here's the latest missive from the State of Delaware. Starting tomorrow, we are to wear our facemasks in all public places - including the great outdoors. I. Can't. Even.
ty mixi
hi judi
ty pen that was my last h word
yw...
I took a walk yesterday with my mask on.
sure you can, Judi. just assume you are always around people who don't know they can infect you
good for you mixi:)
As for work - we've all been breathing each others' air for weeks now. I'll just wear my mask around my ankle. Loopholes were made to be exploited.
Hi Judi, sorry that's frustrating. It's already the policy in PA, and I know there are lots of folks who are tied to PA for work, so it makes sense to me. Can I ask what in particular is challenging about this?
after my scare I even wear it to go to the community mail box to check my mail
judi don't take any chances
We have been expressly told not to wear them, as they are in short supply and the health services need them. I have just been for a walk with a scarf over my face and had to cross the road several times to avoid walking past people. It wasn't an enjoyable experience. It's the first time I've been out since 14th March.
We're only supposed to wear them if we know we are infected.
The problem with that policy is a significant % don't realize they're infected as they have no symptoms and/or haven't gotten tested.
i wear mine (made by my sister-in-law) when I go to the store....they are required here in Maine, though I noticed a lot of people were not wearing them at the store....
hydra does that makes sense to you?
unless we already had one we wear homemade ones that are not medical grade
just curious:)
hydra--in PA we are expected to cover our faces but not with a medical mask (no surgical masks or N95s). homemade masks, scarves are fine, and save the medical ones for health care professionals.
pen, do they employees wear them?
no....
We are encouraged to make our own, but only if we want to. I actually have an N95 mask which I bought when the first news of Covid hit the press. I am keeping it for emergencies.
I've been treating my mask as if it was a surgical mask--only touch it by the ear loops or the back of the mask, put it in the laundry as soon as I come in the house, wash hands after touching the mask, wash hands after handling dirty laundry
hydra they say that if this goes away this time that it could return in the fall/winter.US
My goddaughter in Vancouver wears mask and gloves even in the car and strips off all her clothes, throws them in the machine and has a shower as soon as she comes in. She makes her kids do the same.
zabeth that is awesome!
It's not really challenging per se, Beth. It's just wearisome and overkill for my workplace. As for wearing the thing outdoors; unless you are right on top of other people, it's not necessary to wear it.
hydra that I think should have been a policy.. gloves and masks
I agree.
agreed judi
Although, I did put a mask on the teddy bear that's sitting in my front window.
LOL, Judi
if' I'm right on top of someone I doubt i'd be wearing a mask
judi aww
My friend asked "why do people wear masks in the car when they're by themselves?" and I said it was because I want to wear it getting from my front door to the car, but touching the mask while wearing it is a contamination risk as is taking it off in between uses. The idea is to keep a separation between the side facing your mouth and the side facing the world.
that's v cute judi :)
I think stripping off your clothes and washing them every time you come home is a bit extreme.
except for hospital workers of course
Molly, I agree--I only did that once when I went into the hospital.
unless you're into flashing your neighbors molly
That is extreme, unless you work in a hospital or grocery store, etc. where you've come into contact with lots of people.
It's probably also not a bad idea for essential workers who come into contact with a lot of people
the virus doesn't live a long time on porous surfaces
My husband does that when he's come into contact with ticks.
or you have a family member that is very low imunity
good morning, everyone :)
Yes, Cheryl - that too.
Personally I wish more people were adhering to the mask policy. Even though it's mandatory in my state I still see people without masks or wearing them improperly (around the chin, over the head) and it makes my partner not want to leave the house at all--too many people not being careful with masks or distance. She has asthma, so we're being careful.
...he has come into contact (pardon my fractured English).
Judi --- Don't wear a mask and your chance of contagion from a covid carrier is 70%. WEAR a mask and your chance of contagion is 1.5%
I got upset the other day went to go get meds and there was a lady in line to go to the store and she had a newborn in a stroller, they dont have any sort of immunity built up at all scary
Have a look on you tube. There are various clips on there about making your own face mask. Lots of ideas
Newborns actually do have antibodies from birth for the first few weeks but yes they are vulnerable
is there a pa8 clue for people who don't smoke?
it's too bad our covid experts aren't hete
I thought newborns had the same immunities as their mothers as long as they were being nursed.
no idea dan
lol - about to ask the same thing, dan
My husband and I do wear maskes when we go to any store / indoor pulbic place. We slather ourselves with hand sanitizer multiple times while in said places and once we've left said places. We are vigilant in that regard.
after about two weeks I think
I talked to a woman who's home with a 5 month old, afraid to leave the house because facemasks are not recommended for kids under 2... Not having kids myself I can't imagine having to make the choice to go run an essential errand and risk your kid or skip the errand to stay home! So stressful
I thought it was one person in every household going shopping?(maybe its just the state I live in)?

Mostly I shop alone, however when we grocery shop, I need my hubby with me to do the heavy lifting because I have a bad back and I have fibromyalgia so I'm rather pathetic when attempting to lift the heavy water jugs we buy.

well off to work
i worked in my father's grocery store and he sold cigars... ;o)
oh ty silly me
Judi, my Dad had fibromyalgia
cybernan my understanding of infant immunity is that they have some, but localized immune responses to specific threats is challenging, since they don't have their own "threat library" - even nursing babies are playing a game of telephone between their germs and mom's antibodies
If you read up, there are mixed opinions in the medical community as to the effectiveness of cloth masks in keeping germs in and keeping them out.
I hear you, Judi. The grocery store near my house won't let you take the shopping carts to the car and it is a Herculean effort to park the cart, hope my TP doesn't get stolen, and go pull the car up!
Definitely would like a lift and carry buddy
judi my husband is really good at grocery shopping. I mean grant you we buy a lot of the same things over and over but he know how to get good deals. no copouns
i have no illusions that cloth masks are super effective, but I figure any little help at all is worth it....
Oh man, I would hate it if you couldn't take your grocery cart to the car. Why won't they let you?
that's why everyone should wear a mask, Molly - I think they are more effective at keeping germs in, but nobody knows for certain that they are virus free.
They don't want the carts getting stolen
everybody should just make a line in front of the store then lol
If both the carrier and the contact are wearing masks transference is kept to an extremely low amount.
didn't want to miss the sleeping disorder In the grid:)
cyber agreed
masks are a workaround for the lack of testing for asymptomatic people
problem with testing is that you can test ok and get the virus soon after....
true pen
welll i've been asymptomatic for about a month and a half
eu6 clue pls?
MLFAN I think this didn't use to be as much of a problem because it's a very walkable neighborhood and people usually just take their bags straight home or to public transit, but now people are stocking up and can't carry it so more people are bringing cars...it's not fun at all.
eu6 ends like the sleep disease that is also in the grid
clues for either su6?
carrying groceries isn't fun for some people anyway zabeth but I do understand

isn't a snowbird's place called a sunpad?
what actually is a snowbird?
someone who goes south for the winter
su 6/36 please?
like their whole life for the winter? not just holidays?
a lot of people in Canada go to California, Arizona or Florida every winter to get away from the cold weather. Some of them own houses down there and some of them rent homes. They go for anywhere from 3 to 5 months. These are the "snowbirds"'
wow lucky them!
*however, I think a lot fewer will be going as long as covid-19 is around and there is no vaccine. The soouthern states don't seem to be doing much to control the epidemic.
ugh not helpful
another consideration is that the USA federal election is this November. Unless preparations are made for a mail in vote, there will likely be a huge spike in covid cases afterwards.
we have snowbirds in Kansas ,,, some are still south,,, some stayed here when they came home for Christmas
came home for Christmas?
how can a snowbird come home to Kanasa -- by definition their permanent home is somewhere in the north.
they have 2 homes
yes but if they are Canadians, their permanent home must be in Canada, not the US
well yes,,, permanent home is Kansas
just meant we have the snowbirds in the states too
and we are only permitted to spend one day less 6 months elsewhere to be eligble for various tax breaks.
oh - you mean American snowbirds from the northern states --- that is not too surprising -- the weather in the north east has been dreadful this year.
Evening all....clue please ad6/36?
hi folks - might be difficult for canadian snowbirds to get travel health insurance this year
We also found that Canadians returning from their winter homes are not as well informed regarding the Covid virus as those of us living in Canada are.
I think so, Welki
ad + the following one but then drop the final consonnent and replace it with a vowel
hi flask
We used to go to either AZ or CA for 3 months after Christmas every year --- wouldn't even consider it now.
hows the shorn spaniel welki?
the other half took her face down a little bit more (she looks great), and then cut MY hair (also looks great!)
Hey welki...
:D
brave man
what is that a clue for, dos?

our local fish and chips shop is opening next weekend to rejoicing from the whole village :)
for take out only I hope?
yep
but its really the centre of the village so its been really strange to have it closed - its normally a take out and restaurant
'life' re-starting again...
gotta go - take care ata and nan
we have always had take-out places open, but everything else other than essential services is still shut down here.
bye mtl
... and done ... all praise be to lickety ... ... may I offer any clues for anyone? ...
ad 6/21 please?
... ad + Mr. hawthorne's name
There are people who won't even eat take out food, in fear of the virus.
is there a us6?
I wonder what restaurants are going to do when they can re-open. Keeping people six feet apart is going to cut down on their turn over.
I'd be more impressed if the people in the kitchen wore masks
or are there two un6/21? hmmm
aha. firebirds
congrats!
...
... sorry ... a moment of confusion with a delivery of a case of unordered wine ... from an anonymous source ... ... most confusing .... ... yes there are two un6/21
hey, if you don't want it feel free to send it our way ;)
... delivery charges would undoubtedly be too much ... we'll have to sacrifice and drink it all ourselves ...
Ahh, I understand. !

Say, I thought borders were closed.

... definitely was a nice surprise ... but I'm in the process of returning two months two months worth of wine and beer empties to the beer store and was kinda hoping I wouldn't have to do it again for a while
... ah well .... must pack up the second load of empties for the trip back to the beer store .... ... luck to all who continue the struggle
our bottle return is closed, so all the plastic and glass stuff that can't be put in the recycle bin is piling up in our garage.
... it was closed here ... but about three weeks ago they reopened 71 stores across the province for empties ... and today they opened about 200 more ... including one in Whitby
... must be off
