Thanks a bunch, hon.
Hiya Rose! How are you these days?
{{{{{ kam }}}}}} honey, so good to see you. doing okay. how are you both?
We're good! Stay-at-home orders got eased today!
we are hoping for the same starting tomorrow. will hear later tonight
Hope so! It was nice to not feel weird going to the store. I did have to hit two groceries to get what was needed...one had quit wearing masks, the other, well, masks were on employees, but I saw several worn UNDER their noses, lol! Why bother? And the gloves at the cash register, ugh! I was ready to tell them just to toss them - they were handling everything from everyone with the same pair of gloves. Yuck!
pretty useless tactics i see. *sigh* correct usage is hard for some people to understand.
I almost stopped they lady with the mask under her nose, but behaved. But the gloves...they need to be educated, but they employees are just doing what the bosses say to do. I will be contacting corporate tomorrow - why bother having your employees wear "gear" when it is doing more harm? Sigh
*the* employees
on the other hand, so to speak, it maybe that they are wearing gloves to protects themselves rather than protect the customers.
That's masks, isn't it? The gloves just spread virus if they touch it. Shouldn't they either not use gloves and sanitize hands between customers (the other store does that) or change gloves between customers? I would rather see no gloves and hand sanitizer. I do know some grocery cashiers who have worn gloves for years to protect themselves for various reasons. I try to bag my own food so fewer hands touch it.
You would have to have been in that store to see what I'm trying to convey...
i agree no gloves and sanitiser is the better option. i am sure people would be patient enough for the employee to take the 20 seconds to do so.
me6......clue please
I'm glad to hear you're doing well, how's hubs doing? I'm not up on the situation in Australia. California is going county by county, hard enough to keep track of what is happening in our state!
the gloves are for personal protection too. if someone has broken skin on their hands the virus could enter via the wound. also the gloves help remind people to not touch their faces.
nvm
loll aeb i had nearly finished your clue. but it is always the way. one asks for a clue, and the word jumps out at you.
Good point, Rose, hadn't thought of that. Seems like there are at least three sides of every point of view with this mess. It's hard to know what to believe, what to ignore, so I try not to worry too much...even though both of use are immune compromised to some degree. I guess I look at you as a me6 in some ways concerning medical stuffs... ;)
*us* not use...my fingers are a tad wild tonite..
DH had sinus issues just as covid-19 broke out. he was snuffling, coughing, sneezing. people were giving him the filthiest looks. he had no temp, no sore throat, no aches and pains, just muck pouring down the back of his throat. all okay for now after a course of antibiotics.
Glad he's ok! My DH has been coughing forever it seems...but he insists it's part of the Parkinson's - and he does cough and sneeze all of the time, and has for years. Plus, it's allergy season here, so anyone with allergies has runny noses and other allergy symptoms.
still scary though. even if it is something you 'normally' suffer from. you can't help wondering..
i was really chuffed this morning. today is Mothers Day, the commercial one, not the church one. all three sons called. i think the eldest was prompted by the youngest.
Yeah, I know. DH seems to have a strong immune system when it comes to seasonal illnesses, but a whole lot of us are going to catch this if herd immunity is to happen. I just don't know what to think about this....the two previous SARS viruses seemed to dissipate rather quickly. Hope this one does.
I'm wondering if I'll hear from my daughter. We've mended a few bridges, but I got upset about her dad's widow calling herself my daughter's mom...I should have kept my mouth shut. If she wants to recognize other women as her mom, it's really not my business - it just HURT!
i feel this one is more comparable to the spanish flu. that pandemic slowed right down after the people were all isolated, but then the war ended, and everyone came out to celebrate and there was a second wave of the flu.
Yeah, that's kind of what I'm worrying about too...open up too soon and the second wave hits.
Hope not
yeah it does hurt....i'm sorry you had to go through that. over here it is quite common to call one's mother-in-law mum too.
Step mom and mother-in-law are different though. I'm not Mom to my hubby's daugher...
i had to suffer my exe's new wife being called grandma to my grand-daughter. that was when eldest was still not talking to me.
Extended families with exes and such get too complicated!
hmmm, i wonder. i have never noticed what my son's step-kids call them. both kids in both families respect my sons.
Can I please get a hint for ph6/27?
I don't have it...looking
it forms the food-conducting tissue of a plant. same first three letters as the mucous ph6, then add two vowels + consonant
it's not xylem but the other was gonna be my clue
hey ya freep. how are you?
thx freep! I was trying to stick an O in there, and wanted a Y
thank you!!!!!!
I'm good, grannyrose. Thanks. Good to see folks here each night, ya know?
it is isn't it. sprite even called in the other night.
I'm going to check out for now...want to watch a TV show before I go to bed. Have a good day/night all!
at least with this chat room we can keep in touch easy enough.
sweet dreams dear kam. xox to you both.
{{{rose}}}
Yes. And the familiar right ow is good. Plus, people here like good words :-)
loll and some not so good. the grid the other night.... with over 200 words...it was great with just enough tough words to make it interesting.
Yeah
hmmm - SA has banned the sale of cigarettes and alcohol and unfairly I find "ginless" is not a word :)
really urshy?? re the ciggies and booze ?? how on earth are they going to enforce that??
yip - liquor stores are closed and cigarettes counters have been emptied - the black market is doing a roaring trade !!!
Speakeasies and cougheasies are all the rage
We have a very large number of shack dwellers and the govt feels that booze breaks down social distancing and people in these settlements tend to share cigarettes
okay i understand the booze but ciggies? that's going to cause more huddling together as two or three share the one cigarette.
There has been a huge decrease in the number of violent incidents and motor accidents since the ban of alcohol sales was enforced. So we remain ginless and wineless :(
Rose my point exactly - even more cig sharing and as I said black marketeers are making a fortune
ditto over here urshy. not a lot of incidents on our roads since the restrictions came into force. an occasional one though. a very bad one just the other week. a truck driver on ice veered right across a freeway from the innermost lane to the emergency lane and in the process drove over four young police officers who had pulled up a speeding driver.
What a year. Sarah had a baby (so I'm a grandma) and Tim proposed to her today and she said yes....
woot !! it's a matty.... hello honey. what did she have? when are you coming over? for how long?
Sarah has a baby girl (picture in my profile) who is at home now and doing really well (must put a more recent picture)
I was supposed to come on Thursday. Sadly, that isn't happening, so I'm hanging onto my vouchers against the day I get the OK to come Down Under
Matilda Grace (Tilly)
Congratulations Matty - she is lovely - love the name - is it also yours ?
Nope, my name is Kate (Katherina). Matty Groves is a song - it's been my username forever ;)
apologies Matty got called away. Tilly is so beautiful. look forward to seeing you whenever you come on down. xox
our plans for aus travel are on hold it seems to rose..
I was in the shower myself. I can't wait to come (though I have to)
May I have a nudge on the se8, please?
old english for a week matty
Thanks - I had to look that up, but I guess it makes sense given the word for two weeks (which is in common use, but the se8 isn't. Language is weird)
one of my favourite words , but i'm odd !
I'm even ;)
Morning all ..... I like 'disremember' !!
is it possible to be even odder ?
I like 'dongle'.
yes , one of those new words that feels much older
The PH6/33 is a most excellent word as well

WTG, moolingwa and godthaab!!
omg fireworks
YAY cherlyq!!! WTG!!!
haha, following a whim I've now determined that, while a letter short of being here, "smegma" is accepted by enable. Who'd a thunk it.
It's a legitimate word, why not?
I'd have thought it would have been too new and/or slangy. Wonder how long it's been in use.
mort
It's been a medical worrd for as long as the 1900's for sure
Hello to my fellow babblers! How's everyone doing today?
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers!Way to go
Hi Min, I'm fine; how are you?
Happy Mothers Day Babble moms! Hope U had a nice day
I am doing well.I got down to 3 words and posted a story
I'm waiting for a reply so I can finish writing a newsletter for my hubby's retirement group; and I'm starting to worry that the guy I'm asking questions of may have already gone to bed! (I've been waiting for over an hour, now, and he's pretty much "locked down" because he's very good about following rules and his wife is in chemo)
Maybe will respond to you first thing in the morning,Nef.
Yeah, that's the problem with older people; they go to bed early; and then get up too early too! ;-)
Some of us mature folk are night owls. It is deeply encoded in our genetic makeup, according to some scientific study done last year.
I know, ginger, I'm a retire nurse & I worked evenings or nights for 40+ years.
sorry, gingin, I forgot autocorrect was on
ain't no thang.
I am annoyed with this grid. My brain feel like it is ossifying!
Hello gingin! How are you doing today? Welcome to grid.
Hi Min!
I am tired of the seclusion-thing. Been on med leave from work since mid Dec. Tore a meniscus and am finally having corrective surgery this Wed.
Good luck with your surgery gingin. I hope all goes well.
Thanks! How are you doing??
Good Luck gingin. I had a knee replacement 12/31, so I understand how frustrating it is to be in "lock-down." Our son has been keeping us "safe" from the coronavirus; & we appreciate that; but it is tiring not to socialize with friends in person.
My friend had knee replacement surgery in Feb. She had it just in time before all this other stuff happened. How did you do after knee surgery Nef? My friend did well.
Thanks Nef. Yeah. Technology is great, but in-person is best. Finding things to amuse oneself is somewhat challenging. Daytime telly sucks!
How did you tear your meniscus? (If you don't mind my asking). I fell off a ladder cleaning gutters back in 1996 & tore the meniscuses in both knees
Nef, it was a simple mis-step at work. I am an Amazon slave and was at my work station, stepped backward to avoid something falling toward my feet and my foot slipped on the fatigue mat. Just enough torque to both sprain my knee and tear the meniscus.
omg. BOTH knees at once! That sounds agony-inducing.
I had a couple complications more related to the blood thinners after the surgery, Min. I bled into the leg & surgical site, dropped my hub down to 8; then had a hematoma (blood clot outside the veins) that I still haven't absorbed all of it yet. Still have the bruisesalong the inner side of the knee.
*shudders*
sorry, gingin. At least you got workers comp for the injury, I hope!
Yes, but I will be happy to have my full income in the future. I have to admit, it is fortuitous it happened during the pandemic, as I have not been required to be out and about. My facility has been ok, as far as I know, but some Amazon sites have had to shut down for quarantine periods because of outbreaks.
I had one repaired the same year; tried to do just PT & a brace for the other but ended up inhaving surgery the following year and wearing a long leg vrace for almost a year. My co-workers called me "Robo Nurse.
I have tried pt and brace and then went back to work for 4 hour shifts. Was unable to tolerate it and now, surgery looms.
Am giving up on this nasty grid. Night all! *poof*
Yeah, it might work for some jobs that don't require a lot of walking or standing.
Good night gingin.
yay, done! laters, all - unless someone wants hints?
Congratulations rbud on your fireworks display! Huzzah!
rbud, I could use some help with my last 3 if you're here
R's Rebuilt! 1 left
still here.
are congrats in order?
well, will leave them in advance. :)
Thank you rbud!Hope to get my fireworks before the flip
I'm still here; I just went to bug DH about his exercises for a bit.
Congratulations to you bud! WTG!!!
I am finished! I have fireworks! to6/24 was my last word
yay!!! :D
I will he here until the flip to give clues. Story in profile.
YAY, Min!!! WTG!!!
Thanks Nef and rbud.Nice to have enthusiastic witnesses
I know what you mean, Min. :-)
Hi everyone - just looking in to see if anyone needs help -- looks like Min has it covered -- back at the flip
hi & bye, nan
Hi and bye cybernan! Thanks for checking in. See ya soon
I have 20 left; but I can't stay awake any longer now. Good night everyone. Happy Babbling. (I'm guessing 234 words for the next grid)
Goodbye Nef! I hope to see you again soon here in chog.
Any guesses for the next grid size?My guess is 111 words.
