Morning, Molly.
Hi Bea. What is on today's agenda?
Busy day. Master Gardeners Zoom meeting, Help get my wheelchair bound neighbor out for some fresh air. Take Emma to the vet in Raleigh for a laser treatment. While she is doing that, I will run to Trader Joes. I'm already tired...

It is feast or famine.
Yeah. We dames like to stick together.
Judi, I'm sorry but I still have not been able to identify my fruit tree.
That is today's update.
Mystery fruit. We'll stay tuned for a possible identification in the future.
if it grows very tall and has a house on top, DON'T climb it!!!
Too bad the jam/jelly wasn't salvageable.
lol. Always good advice, Harry.
Presuming she didn't buy the beans in the first place.
in my gardening club back in NJ I had a mystery plant growing in my plot. I finally uprooted it and it was a beautiful daikon! Must have grown from the communal compost.
Anyone have a clue for the RE9?
Uhg. So stuffy today. Last time we sleep with the windows open. Pollen just flew in.

Good morning! Any of my dream interpretation peeps in the house? I had a wacko dream last night that I cannot put my senses around.
hi car!
let's he** it car
hi car! have you seen heard the NPR podcast on dreams in the time of corona? lots of wacko ones.
Have you tried any of the dream interpretation sites? They can usually steer you in the right direction.
their are books about dreams too
I just want to listen to the dream
me too
Dream voyeurs : D
yep
owl is that on acorn?
8)
fan: huh?
I will tell you just the dream details first. Then, if needed, the background on the person in the dream.
NPR = national public radio
the podcasr TO
There are also a lot of articles on line about people having weird dreams during COVID. A natural response to surreal conditions.
owl I used to get magazines from some npr radio it had a lot fo neat things in them t shirts books etc
Dreams generally get weird with major lifestyle chjanges.
I went to a pound, of sorts, with my friend and her husband to adopt a dog. It reminded me of a junkyard setting, but not messy. the dogs were all in these stacks of cages but you couldn't see the dogs until the front cover of the cages lifted up. They had a specific dog in mind, but then ended up seeing another dog they fell in love with. The dog had been addicted to heroin and was rehabbed. That was the one they selected. GO....
Also, people are staying at home more than they used to and that is not always a good thing. I have a friend who said she is suffering from TMH. Too Much Husband.
anchor not acorn sorry
A dog addicted to heroin is a nice twist. I'm guessing that whoever the dream is about has some form of addiction touching her life.
nope
I would say that you are concerned your friends are taking a really difficult problem that they do not necessarily ne** to take. Possibiliy helping some one with major issues.
how did you react to their choice?
addiction is much in the news, so it could bublle up with other things,if the dream is generalized anxiety.
Five stars for JMC's analysis
*curtsies and puts soap bubble pipe in mouth*
how does a dog get addicted to heroin?
freud was in the grid yesterday, if you noticed.
it stars with smoking pot
it just takes once, ru
Ok..let me give you the background. Her mother just died. Her extended family (uncle and stepfather) did not tell her until after her mother had passed, so she did not get to say good bye. They even told her that she and her family would have to wait in the parking lot while they went in the funeral home for the 10-person service. She is the only child her mother had. There are years of manipulative and hurtful behavior from that extended family. Someone close to her told her to play nice at the funeral. There would be other opportunities to confront them in this process (will, etc.)
How does a dog get hooked on heroin?
bichon frise-basing?
This is my amateur analysis but I wanted some input before I said anything to her about it.
Dog could have been used in drug trial studies.
I think in some way it might have been her mother reaching out to me. She wants her daughter to just walk away. Take the brokeness and make peace with it.
interesting.
It will be the only way she can truly heal and move on with her immediate family.
I especially think this since in the dream they had a dog picked out but then chose this one
so glad my dog isn't a junkie.. needles make me queasy
When I watched my daughter's dog, I had to give him insulin
I really wish if people are going to reach out from the great beyond they would do it in clearer ways.
No shit.
"Hi! It's me! I need to tell you something...."
oh this is one of THOSE stories
Personally, I would have nothing to do with a family that cruel. I don't know why anyone would.
Exactly...and this is her chance now to just walk away from it all
could anyone please me clue me the last RE8 -50 please. Or at least give me the 3rd letter.

did everyone see that Floyds fiance said he would be horrified by the rioting? he was a peaceful person. how sad.
i wish we had some black leaders who preached peaceful demonstrating...my son and wife went to a peaceful "sit in" in brooklyn protesting the police violence.
if the cop who killed floyd wasnt arrested for murder, then i would feel the riots were called for. but what do the rioters want??????he was arrested for murder!
had to drop out just at the crucial time. Car I think it is you that wants her to walk away and I think you are right. She should just leave that dog alone.
Did I miss Snuffy?
respectfully, mkg. we did have peaceful protests - LOTS of them. What happened when Colin Kapernick took a knee?
mkg he was charged with a lesser charge than first degree murder and basically this is not the first murder by cop. They want it to stop. completely.
mkg they want murder one and he deserves it
yes there have been thankfully so many peaceful protests.
DC was mostly peaceful until the event at St. Johns.
he should get murder one. i have been stopped for a ticket by cops who are so brutal and obnoxious and scarey that i am shocked.
What trump did to the peaceful protesters in DC is so awful.
anyway I while I normally LOVE to talk politics with you guys even when I disagree I came for escape today.
so cops approach the public as if we are all murders and guilty and it is horrible
sorry jmcnrick
on to the grid.
mkg -- the rioters are not the protesters, they are a bunch of thugs and thieves taking advantage of the situation. I would wager that most of the rioters have criminal records
i wanted to get to only 100 left but cant manage it yet
nan you are so right
140 to go
no not at all. I appreciate people feeling they can talk about anything here
27 here but poking along
if any of you want to read an interesting column, in the Boston Globe, the columnist Jeff Jacoby wrote some interesting stuff.
almost done ru
only 27? go ruru!
the destruction a block from my house night before last was not anything to do with the protests 5 miles away
go ru!
Hello! I don't even comment here, but since you asked. There is a stark difference between those who are rioting and those who are protesting. Those protesting, (including me 3 times this week, very peacefully) are focused on much, much more than just the arrest of one officer, but a systemic and continuously entrenched racist approach to policing. It goes to the disparity in the legal system, education and even health. There is so much to unpack here. As a black woman, not one day goes by without me experiencing racism either directly or indirectly. We can never turn it off. Whether its finding ourselves counted out in the workplace, being labeled "as not as good as", or even having to worry about our sons and daughters just being human in America. The protests are not limited to just one finite thing, but years and years of constant reminders that there are more obstacles for us, then others.
and after the stunt he pulled yesterday with the bible act, I think Trump is the biggest thug of all
I recommend Colbert King in the Wash Post
I agree with you misstearweus
good for you misstear. I thank you. I try to support you.
As do I
absolutely misstear
very eloquently said, misstear.
Very well said misstearweus. My attitude is under renovation. Can't continue sitting on the sidelines and hoping for better...
interesting name misstearweus......are you a magician? or very strange???????? cute name

and just to paint a pic, not all the protestors are young. I'm an established executive, with a healthy slice of the American dream, well into my 40s. I locked hands with those even older than me this weekend. Many of these young folks helped us older folks to get the courage to be vocal in a different way. I work hard to bring other black and brown people along at work and in my community. It felt very cathartic to chant and kneel. Since I was girl, the pain sometimes, just makes you, like Marvin said "wanna holla"
Not a magician mkg, a vapor from my sorority days. :)
Marvin captured it perfectly.
misstear, you are so right as to the issues. I live outside of washington DC and I believe there are more middle and upper middle class blacks in our area than elsewhere because of the government jobs. but you are right that there is still a way to go until people are "colorblind".
well we are glad you jumped into the conversation. I think Babbleland is one of the most open places I have ever participated.
who is marvin???????
Marvin Gaye
well I am happy that you did join our chat.
I miss Marvin.
ok marvin gaye.....ok.
and personally, my hope is that we are NOT colorblind, but can get to a place where each of our color and background is revered and celebrated! ---mkg, Marvin Gaye. :)
Well said again misstear
I have a very colorful family. I cherish each background, upbringing and vibrant culture each of them brings. See me and black woman and say, "hello, great to have your unique thoughts, experiences and background at the table!"
I was raised color blind but realized that was a rejection of people who are different than I am. Not my goal.
i believe that most police forces need to have real education for their cops about how to greet the public. Even as a white person, they come across so rough and tough and scarey most of the time. They view all people as criminals. In their heads we are all guilty until proven innocent. And sometimes the police women are even worse........
I do the same with others.
mkg there was an extensive study in the 1970s that said just that--training made all the difference. But almost no police departments do more than a perfunctory training.
what i mean by color blind is that we see people as individuals and not anything else. that is how i go through life. and each person should be totally valued for who and what they are.
thanks for listening, as I think this movement is what its all about. Less hostility, more listening and more understanding. I do love the open dialogue that I have with my friends and family. I have bi-racial nieces and nephews that I want to make sure I live up to the promise our family unions have created.
it is time we protest with signs saying "educate your police force so that no more lives are snuffed out".....?
misstearweus, please continue to be included in the chat........ok?
go for it mkg.
Malcolm Gladwell's "Talking to Strangers" grappled with this issue, Sandra Bland debacle. Good read.
my hubby told me of a very interesting study with babies:
sure thing...I have cautiously read them these last few days coming here to tune out the pain and anguish. For almost 20 years now, I come here to cancel the world and relax. :)
we just have so far to go in this country.. i thought it was getting better but now it's worse than ever
roru, now its just being exposed due to phone cameras. Those of us who live it everyday really don't see it as worse. Now there is more proof to show the rest of the world. For every Aubery, there are hundreds that go unreported and swept under the rug do to the good old boy network.
We live in an area where there are very few coloured folk, yet we also have police brutality. It stems from frustration with "slap on the wrist" judges as well growing misconduct among the population. I don't think police training should be confined to racial attitudes. As I have said before, a good start would be to weed out the bullies before they even get into the law enforcement schools.
true.. i have a friend who like you is an executive and drives a nice car and gets pulled over all the time, even though he is in an expensive suit and is as classy as they come
I have two brothers, they live on opposite coasts and I wear my head shaved. ALL OF US have been stopped by police, mistaken identity detained, etc. All college educated, military and law abiding citizens.
i get it..
Iast year, I went jogging near work. I have never jogged through the neighborhood. I got stung by a bee and had to sit. Someone called the police. They rolled up and asked me why I was there. Mind you, Im in about $200 worth of Lulelemon. Couldn't even attend to my wound.
The officer was nice, but why would a home owner call the police on me. I had nothing in my hands and am in full on run gear and ear buds. And you cannot go crying about it once you get back to work.
so you hold on to things, over and over again. Before you know it, you marching, chanting and kneeling.
and to paint the picture, I do live in Georgia
oh.. that makes it clearer
I have no words
I don't understand why the homeowner didn't come out and just ask you what was wrong. I just don't know where our compassion has gone.
Miss tear, thank you for your remarks. I believe that the constant level of stress that people of color experience is why they have more hypertension and related health problems
In December I was on a cruise ship. I bought a tix for the slide, but it was closed. Went the next day, new white attendant. He said I had to buy a tix. I told him I got one the day before. He demanded he see it. I stepped out of line and the white family behind me said the same thing. He let them go on by. Meanwhile I had to trek back to my room to show him my tix. Same thing happened each time I went to access the VIP section of the boat, which I paid for. I'd get stopped, have to show my credentials. White families, just breezed on through. I can go on and on...this is the reality of some many black people.
Agreed Tabbycat. Been on HBP pills since I was 29, and I'm healthy...which is why I justify Lululemon's prices! LOL!
why are luluemon clothes so expensive (not to change the subject/ but want to know?)
I travel for work...90% I get stopped to prove I have a first class tickets to access the VIP security line. Sometimes, I'm even with my white co-workers in a group, I'll still get stopped...*sigh* We have to grin and bear it, because as soon as we express our outrage, we're angry black people.
Good segue ruru, wish I knew and didn't have such a habit!!!
i see it at the airports all the time misst it's true
because fools like me keep buying the damned brand..cant help it...love lulu
what can help is when you see it happening, say something! I see my white sister in laws, exhausting themselves doing it. I sometimes have to tell them, it's OK to take a break from it, somedays, I just don't have the energy. What they say? "My son (or daughter) will be seen as black when they grow up, and I can't stand knowing they will be treated this way." When you intervene, it says, no it's not OK for me to be granted access with ease, while you deny others.
<---fool too IndiaJan
Between my Peloton, Lululemon and Fabletics, I have achieved complete fitness suckerdom.
great idea miss.. i will do that.
It makes my day, when white people have spoken up. It says, hey, I see you.
I can't even express how invisible you feel when people just don't even acknowledge the disrespect
the rioting clouds the issue I bet for a lot of middle america, but I think the message this time is pretty loud and clear
what's the message you're getting ?
we need more powerful white people to speak up we need a president to say this isn't ok and black lives matte
agreed. The rioting hurts my heart, because for the 1000th time, the focus goes to they are violent, restless destructive people, further perpetuating the idea that black people have to be policed differently.
Takes away from the vast majority of the peaceful protesting.
Interesting. The message I'm seeing is that law enforcement needs better education and also more hands-on mental health, more anger management screening, more psych screening to start with.
the message I'm getting Helen is that things have not changed, that this racism is everywhere and people are dying.
Oh, things have indeed changed, and for the worse.
we need more mental health evaluations for police officers that is for sure
it has gotten worse.. or maybe more blatantly obvious
There are white americans who take in these images and see a fitness freak sitting on a curb nursing bee sting, and say, "oh no, my neighborhood is not safe. Let me call 911."
i would have come out to help
I can't tell you how many times, I've sat on public transportation & exchanged glances with older black people about how teens & 20's kids act, mostly black, because they're showing the most attitude.
Then we start to have a conversation. I feel so bad for these elderly people who remember The March on Washington & what the vibe was then.
and Ruru, can you believe the very same thing happened to me when i was in highschool in VA back in the 90s. A woman called the police because I stopped on a bench. I had a backpack and my field hockey stick. Full circle.
True, people need to look at all other people by how they comport themselves, not by anything else.
helen, I'm with you. I've been there. so many kids black and white have attitudes and bad ones. They can be a nuisance and even threatening. I move away from them, ready for the ride to be over. I do not however, believe they should be mistreated by the police.
I wish that would do more good than it does. I remember being on a walking tour in London. I had been talking with a another woman that was on the tour when a man from New Orleans sat down with us. I asked him about the reconstruction (this was following Katrina) and he replied that it was all done. I said I had just read the previous that there was a huge section of the city where the debris hadn't even been picked up yet and so assumed it was an old report. His reply was "oh no -- we don't care if those areas ever get cleaned up. We don't want those people back. AT which point I got up and escused myself saying I didn't wish to sit with bigots and went to the next table where my husband was sitting with another couple who we had earlier learned were workmates from the Bank of Scotland. The icing on the cake is that one of them was a woman of colour. However when I looked back at the table I had left, the guy just shrugged and turned his back on me.
* I guess he didn't see the steam coming out of my ears
one act at at time, creates a title wave (remember the ballpark). Doing it over and over again, creates habit, and over time, shames those who continue bad behavior.
That is how women's right and male chauvenism was changed over the last half of the the 20th century. We went from girls, broads and little ladies, to women with respect and power.
We have a ways to go, but we are definitely not characters from the 40s and 50s silverscreen anymore.
you should chat more often miss
did I mention I'm a public speaker...? :)
:D
Another thing that can be changed is education, especially history. The straight out truth needs to be told & taught, not just about America's horrible history, but how the pattern of rich oppressing poor, strong oppressing weak, is a global problem. Kids today don't seem to have any worldliness about themselves.
In painful detail.
I'm seeing some backsliding on women's rights
Tab - that's what happens when things start getting taken for granted. Vigilance is what's needed to ensure forward progress.
Agreed. The assault starts early for young black people. The first thing you learn about your history as a kid is, "your ancestors were slaves." Can you wrap your head around the pathology from there? Yes, there was emancipation, but you were in bondage for 300 years. You spend the rest of your education learning more about your contribution and impact on the world.
Try this on for size: My parents were slaves.
me too Tabbycat2, gotta stay vigilant. I was on a conference call the other day. White male leader, called his colleagues wife, "little lady". I growled under my breath.
Helen: and I'm sure that does something to you right? it adds to your fervor to excel, be your best and avoid control at all costs.
When foreigners come into your country, speaking a foreign language, abduct you, take you back to their country, force you to work for no pay, very little food . . . that's slavery. That's what happened to Poland & other small European nations from the start of WWII. My mother abducted to Germany, my father to Siberia.
And, yes, it did do something: Exactly what you said. Plus, depression, anxiety . . .
Human trafficking continues right now. Awareness is the first step. Then pounding in that awareness, so people don't put it on the back burner.
Agreed. And that's the type of feeling that builds up over time, it can create depression and even hostility. That experience and perspective should be welcomed to the table, and included as part of the American fabric. I miss the value by turning a "colorblind" eye to your experience and lumping it in with all white americans. Instead, I cherish the dialogue and richness it would bring to a project, a conversation and a community.
white is so many things, black is so many things, asian is so many things, etc. When we open ourselves up to the endless spectrums within those colors and cultures, we really see all the wonderful differences and the endless similarities.
and with that, I have a date with a sandwich and a pop. Happy Babbling ya'll.
Thanks. So happy you see that. It's hard for me to convince people that I'm not being dismissive of color issues, just that I look at all this from a European perspective, not an American one. I don't feel guilty for the slavery here, I am angry about slavery in other places. It's all the same thing. Some white Americans need to deal with what their ancestry did first.
i hope by pop you mean your dad or grandad :D
Good talk, stay safe.
pop=Dr. Pepper (my midwest side of the family coming out...) :)
down with soda!
I drink diet soda because its the only sweet think I can consume
the aspartame in diet soda means that drinking 1 can per day increases your risk of cancer as much as smoking does
hi again! lunch break here. I drink Coke Zero because I don't have a lot of vices and I enjoy soda.
I don't think there has been any actual proof that aspartame causes cancer.
It's the only thing I can eat/drink that makes me happy
https://tinyurl.com/y5wvy9du
weird, i thought i read an article a couple years ago that said that it does - i mean, a reputable article. but now i don't see it. however, systemic racism, along with climate change and many other ills, are fueled primarily by large corporations' desire to maintain the status quo of society. so, the less we buy from them, the better.
bichon, are you diabetic? is that why?
friend who drank constantly says his oncologist confirmed that no matter the propaganda, his kidney cancer was, if not a direct cause, a big predisposing factor.
sorry, by his drinking of diet soda.
that did not come out right, but i think you get the drift.
aha, vindicated by hearsay from an oncologist!
how much did he drink? and did he have that PKU?
i don't think it's exactly hearsay. i think it's anecdotal evidence.
yeah, I always trust anecdotal hearsay. (no offense, TO)
Yes, I am hurshy. The only sweets I consume is diet soda. Lower on the carbs
no plu. it was his beverage of choice. we know lots of folks for whom soda of some kind is the beverage of choice.
i don't trust anything i hear via the net. anywhere.
including here
my oldest bro is diabetic and has been drinking diet soft drinks for over 30 years with no problem, if you want some more anecdotal evidence. ;)
i was just being humorous about the fact that while i do feel vindicated by it, obviously there is an element of the game of telephone here which makes it impossible for anyone to be convinced by that. :D
me either, TO.
no one is on the net to be convinced.
yeah, but some people (like my mom on FB) seem to fall for everything
On thing I suggest: there are amazing biographies of the wealthy like Henry Ford, Vanderbuilt, Carnegie etc. and it shows how they were rich and their workers were living in horrible poverty.
in hindsight, maybe the terms "net" and "web" should have forewarned us
people are on the net for many reasons
There is something about many many males which is that they tend to be all for themselves and for no one else. They totally lack empathy and sympathy in their genes.
people are mostly on the net to reinforce their existing values. or to show them off.
time to plant the garden. poor tomatoes are sitting in their little pots.
well, I still have 90 words left. don't think I found one on my lunch break. now back to my painting touch-ups and then I will be finished with this project! nice chatting. TTFN.
I read the one of the things religion tries to do is get Man to be less selfish and to have empathy and sympathy. If only religion or anything could imbue man with the empathy gene......i believe women have it in order to nurture their children but many males just dont have much of it. And I know that you will say there are plenty of men who do have it, and I agree: my sons, my husband, my son in laws...etc. but unfortunately there are so so many males who dont have it.....
oops sorry the chat moved on and i didnt. i am sorry
hi again - new patio almost finished - just went out for final inspections :)

wow, i really gave you the perfect setup for a great pun there, ru
you did indeed
I'm thinking about getting an electric on-demand one.

my ex has one of those and loves it
i try to be not so demanding but that's me

do you know how much electricity they use ori?
I believe they use less energy than either a gas or electric tank heater. One advantage is that they don't need venting like the gas ones. And we have publicly owned electric service here, so the rates are pretty good.
Ooo, shower shenanigans
but don't you still need a hot water heater for the washer and dishwasher?
or will all the appliances, sinks, etc. be connected to it?
sorry about your water heater origami.. ours died a few weeks ago to the tune of eleven hundred bucks
Yes, but it would service them also.
Yikes mom
ok, so it a household one, not one just for the shower
Yes, a household one.
all that kind of stuff has gone way up in price in the last few years. We had a 30 year gap between house building and renos on the new place --- was that ever a shock
My 10 grand kitchen from 1990 cost 35 grand to replace.
Jeeze, my parents paid 35,000 for their first 4-bedroom house back in the 70's
my dad paid $17,000 for his first house
it's now worth $850,000
lol molly -- we built our first house for 18,000 in 1967
Today that house is worth almost 500,000
i don't think i could ever survive trying to build a house now
when we moved back here in 1990 the people who bought it offered to sell it back to us for 1.5 million
it seems in our absence view property came into demand and we had an acre of it.

congrats on the baby girl, matty! She's beautiful! Also, change the last vowel & pl on your phantom, lol.
wtg sammys
I actually have the non-phantom, thanks! And thank you - I really must change the picture - she's at home now (in Australia) and gaining weight and healthy - you'd never know now how traumatic her first days were
Also, randomly echidna. Also not there.
I want to see a picture of Grandma and Tilly
So do I.
Maybe...November? December?
Sarah sent me a mug with Tilly on it (well, pictures of Tilly. The alternative is horrifying.)
Now I have the Who song Pictures of Lily in my head. Which is about something entirely different.
I keep seeing cheese as well (in the grid)
lol, yeah, a phantom for me as well.
has anyone else tried "shart?"
no ... but you can change the final consonent to either of two consonants and to a vowel and get something
just so, dos, ty!

ty haz
... most welcome
hello haz and hello jmc
jmc how are you feeling today?
better thanks. definitely on the mend
glad to hear
was there damage tot he commercial area up there?
yes. but pretty clear it had nothing to do with the protest except to give an excuse.
The store one block from my house they smashed the window but the only place they stole from that I know is the CVS==presription drugs
yikes! glad your food source sounds ok
wondering what people will do when they have to cook a meal for a family. thinking the looters do not have that responsibility.
even downtown the places that go smashed night before last were a CVS and clothing stores. The IMF and World Bank were untouched. That speaks volumes for who and why looting occured.
here, they hit food stores and are blowing up ATMs. one guy died doing that.
the thieves are mainly teenage and young men
again blowing up an ATM is a crime of opportunity not protest that BLM.
starbucks was burned, i took that as a political statement. high end stores - the stuff you and i think are high priced crap- were cleaned out.
bet they are for sale cheap at markets this weekend
you know it.
but food stores...there is a food desert in west philly and they hit the only supermarket.
Sorry you guys are having that happen in your area. The protests have been largely peaceful here. There is a curfew in place and the National Guard is here.
i feel so bad for the local businesses. west philly was vibrant.
I have to go get some food. Back later.
well i am glad to see you and hear you are better. i have to finish planting. by the time i decide how to lay out this garden, it will be fall.
and i guess i missed haz. oh well.
rehi, back for my last 33...or some portion thereof
... and done ... may I offer any clues for anyone? ...
yes, can you explain strange matter?
... which strange matter do you refer to? There are so many.
... or are you looking for an astrophysical explanation of neutron stars ... in which case "strange" is just a name ... a strange quark is no more strange than and "up" quark is "up" ... or a "charmed" quark is charming ... ask uusue the next time she's on ... she knows all about that stuff
...'til next time, good luck to all who continue the struggle ... .
Are you guys for real with this conversation?
cool
molly, I think you meant "fo reelz"
Ha, hokie!

just found the 2nd spelling of the russian ruler. if it's not one tripping me up it's the other
My goodness. Horrific scenes being shown on TV here of protesting, rioting and looting in the US. President Trump not being represented in a positive light. I hope all my US friends are safe and well.
are there any words using both C's?
yes, one said in the chat earlier re: smoking
most of us are fine. But the cities are areas where one is not necessarily safe.
ty got the ca word for what you get from smoking..
I am not near a downtown but am close to an outlet mall and all the shopping around that. there has been some damage at some stores, but it is worse downtown.
just found ce4/6 with both c's
wow carla. wow
I would think it's very difficult to put Trump in any kind of positive light actually
I always try cece (as in chickpeas), but not valid.
i got it too
Stay safe, fellow Babblers. (As if there wasn't enough to be worrying about with this wretched plague).
you'd be surprised ru, at the people that can still do it
astro not in dict??????
I would consider it a prefix, but there are other words accepted that I would think are too
i still have only 2 V words. need clues please with stats. ty. i have ve 4 7 and another ve 6 27 that is a top layer on furniture
For once we agree Ruru. I was attempting to be diplomatic. I know politics is a tricky subject on Babble.
I only have 5. there is another ve4/7 that carries blood, ve6/30 & 7/44 "a ve* of disease"
Using the Bible as a prop in front of St. Johns hit a new low.
no, tear gasing people to get them out of the way so he could stand in front of the church holding an upsidedown Bible was the low. The photo op itself was not ne**ly as bad.
but he seems to be kind to his son.
yep that's pretty much all this Quaker has got.
He is insecure and seeking validation. He is just doing it wrong.
and. . . .nothing
Well, yes, the whole thing was a cluster.
ha** to argue against that origami. . .Friends were tear gassed.
my phone just blew up with an alarm to inform me that there is a curfew at 7 ev** though the polls close at 8. But voting or working the polls is exempt from the curfew. Now I hope they tell the military.
my boy is determined to vote after 7.
*tears in eyes* I don't know where he gets that backbone from. . .
I'm conscious that I'm not American, so not entitled to comment, but I really do fear for what will happen next. Your president is a loose canon.
I think we're actually on the same page jmc
you are not alone in thinking that Soodle. And I believe everyone is entitled to have an opinion. He looked so tiny in front of St. Johns. And St. Johns is a tiny church. But the destruction. . . .
Oh, I misread the ha** :D
haha hate is not in the grid origami
nor is "have." :D
haha nope
I feel like you can use every day words like hard in regular convo even though it's in the grid in a grid this size
then we'd have to ce6 everything
one could argue that by using the * it actually highlights it in the grid more than simply typing it
meh it is part of the fun for me hokie, to write without using ev** everyday words in the grid. . . it is the challenge
I concur, moo
I think the focus of the situation at hand should be on the situation at hand. Not on what Trump does or doesn't do. Is he doing stupid things? Yes. Nothing new.
moo, how many do you have left? it is slow going here, still 64 to go
true moo but that was the tradition when I started here in 2008. I am a traditionalist!!!
20 left here
wow, well done
yeah, it's been remarkably smooth for me today
valid point molls. If I wasn't afraid the bringing in of the military will let things spiral out of control I could take this more in stride. . .the boy and I laugh about a lot of his scrapes during protests.

haha I am afraid that is true enough soodle
I wonder what people would do if they were in charge. It seems like a natural course of events to try and control the rioting situation. I don't know how else you do that without using some law ejforcement.
agree, you can't have total anarchy
Enforcement
Found this article interesting on law enforcement in times of riots: https://tinyurl.com/ya6ppeuz
I support law enforcement. . .but not one that is geared up like the military. And there is a great deal of evidence that the violence is not related to the anti-racist demonstrators but to White supremacists, some Leftists anarchists, and some people who just see a chance to steal things
yesterday, for example, a guy was tearing up bricks from the street to break windows and the demonstrators surrounded him and handed him over to the police.
Something like this was bound to happen. People are losing their shit over being out of work, having to stay home and having no money to pay their bills. We are not all getting paid to stay home and do nothing.
Fivethirtyeight.com has an interesting article about this. The whole thing can be read here but a telling paragraph is Researchers have spent 50 years studying the way crowds of protesters and crowds of police behave — and what happens when the two interact. One thing they will tell you is that when the police respond by escalating force — wearing riot gear from the start, or using tear gas on protesters — it doesn’t work. In fact, disproportionate police force is one of the things that can make a peaceful protest not so peaceful. But if we know that (and have known that for decades), why are police still doing it?https://tinyurl.com/ya6ppeuz
we reading the same site matty :)
Great minds think alike...or at least link alike :)
And apparently we do too ;)
Hah! Fair point, well made ;)
From the same article: "Experts say the following decades of research have turned up similar findings. Escalating force by police leads to more violence, not less. It tends to create feedback loops, where protesters escalate against police, police escalate even further, and both sides become increasingly angry and afraid."
well, I need to get moving again. TTFN. have a good day, or good night sleep for matty :D
Thank you Carla - I shall be heading to bed very shortly :)
seeya hoke
Bye, hokie.
I couldn't agree more Mattie. A prime example is Northern Ireland circa 1969. Peaceful Civil Rights protests were quelled. The introduction of the army did nothing but inflame already heightened tensions. 30 years of mayhem, murder & atrocities ensued. I would not wish this type of catastrophe on any nation.
Apologies for the time lag. I'm glued to the TV.
just in case you guys didn't notice.. hell did freeze over :D
A red letter day. For sure. 😜
What's happening now, ru?

good evening! even bigger puzzle tonight!
hello all....
hey, Pen
hi phan....
not getting very far with that 1st tile...
when I start a grid, I just go systematcially around the grid and just type in as many words as I can find.....i don't do it by letter until later....
I try to get at least half of each tile in order...
everyone has their own plan of attack....
yup. Not very successful with the first row... lol
but I did grey the e!
i think i adopted my strategy because i feel successful for a while.. ;o)
I developed mine because I am anal!
well i am pretty anal, too, lol.....
I play willy nilly for a while and then work on it letter by letter.
after i have found as many words as I can, i look at the stats and see if I have missed a letter...
Sigh ... I still need 120
i am down to 38....had to list when I had 55 words left....
wow! I have 73 words.
well i worked on it this morning.....evenings are to finish up for me....
Yeah, this is my first time on...
my routine is usually to work on the grid in the morning and finish in the evening....
tonight i am noticing that there are lots of words I should have found this morning.....i was distracted this morning by the paving of the parking area opposite my place...
was that a good distraction?
no.....the noise gave me a headache.....finally put headphones on.....that helped....
bummer. Sorry, glad music helped.
well at least they were efficient....seemed to get a lot done....
awesome
nice sized grid today
yes...

can someone please clue the second de 7/36?....it's my last word....
stop living, pen
duh....thanks....i am done...
Congratulations, pen. That one is a little hard to see as it usually appears as past tense.
good job. I did get more than 1/2 way iwith my 1st run... Now to list

heading out.....going back to my Fringe binge.... po)
goodnight all.....

'night, pen
What are the stats for the 2nd column E please?
ma6/27 pls
ma6/27 - male + former Marxist from Argentina
Took me that long to figure out how to clue it :D
ty but have no idea about the end of the word
Great conversation here today about what is going on in these united states. misstearweus added some great insight and was very tolerant of some who made some unfortunate remarks.
Maybe Molly can give a better clue than mine
is the ma7 related to the ma6?
Yep
Last name of the Marxist was Guevara

I'm back again. Do I go to the list for last 64 or try to find more?
think I'm going to have to go to the list
come to the dark side carla
when I look at how many I've found it feels pretty respectable. :D
nobody is judging you :)
I know. we are our own harshest critics.
14 left. I was missing some pretty obvious ones
yeah, have already found 3 a4 that I should've gotten. so easy to miss obvious ones with this many words.
Well, I have 82 left and have listed. We'll see ...
I listed at 83 :)

But you guys are better than I am

At this game I mean. Didn't mean to sound snarky :D
Yay, Harry!
lol
yay!
well done, harry
hi, folks
gotta go put hdrogen peroxide on my kids leg
hi welki!
Hi Welki!
the fizzing takes their minds off the wound :)
Hi welki; I just got here for the first time today
he said he got a "small scrape" from his bike, I looked at it yesterday and it looks like a grizzly mawled his leg
hi ori!
good night
NEF! it's good to 'see' you!
'nite, harry
Harry, if you're going to use H2O2, make it half strenght
oh gosh, hope it heals nicely
Listen to Nef's advice Harry. Nurses know these things.
full strength peroxide is too caustic to allow the wound to heal.
Hi Nef
interesting, I did not know that. I did used to love watching the fizzing when I was a kid, so welki is onto something.
Hi ori and hokie. How are you guys anyway?
same as when we were kids, nef? because i can't remember it any other way than straight out of the brown bottle!
Hanging in there, Nef. Curfew here these days. Sigh.
hanging in there, how about you?
ha! ori, great minds...
:D
we used half strength peroxide in the hospital all the time for tracheotomy cares; it will actually eat away on the new healing tissues
heh - curfew schmurfew, i wouldn't know the difference *lol*
Doesn't really impact me, for sure. Nowhere to go.
Welki - someone on Facebook posted a quote that Canadians must feel like people living in a nice apartment over a meth lab :D
I don't know if we have one here
my father would put it on fresh wounds/scrapes just to clean them out - maybe if it was used more often, there would have been bad results
It's the protests here hokie
we have a curfew here too; and it seems to help now (especially with the National Guard here). I don't understand why people think they won't be arrested after curfew; but at the site of George Floyd's death, they are allowing all night vigils.
we are having protests too but haven't heard about a curfew
ori - that's so off the mark hokie. we have the same problems as you, but not as big of a population, so it doesn't make the headlines
My mother always doused every wound liberally with peroxide until a doctor told her not to use it on puncture wounds because it impedes healing.
I think more accurately it's due to the rioting, not the protests
welki, it still fizzes with half strength now. I have found that there are different strengths of it these days; maybe all peroxide was a lower strength back then?
Yes, sorry. I stand corrected. I shouldn't have used the term "protest." It is, indeed, the rioting.
that's what i'm thinking, nef - or we'd all be walking wounds :)
LOL! Very true, welki.
(and sorry i inserted 'hokie' into my reply to ori)
I think once it stopped fizzing we stopped using it
yep, because then it was "clean" - very scientific :D
lol, I am in a dark movie room and struggling to read this chat, so I didn't even see that, welki
exactly, welki
Ori, there are different people involved in the protests (which have all been peaceful here & made up of local multiracial people who seem to know each othe; and the rioters; who were white (but not all from out of state as originally reported). Then there were the looters; mostly blacks, and (as someone said) taking advantage of the opportunity.
and in case that wasn't clear, I'm struggling to read because I need readers :D
how many of you ever had mercurichrome used on cuts and scrapes? Not THAT stuff hurt!!!
time to go - g'night ladies!
Yes, I know, Nef. I used the wrong term. I 100% uphold the right to protest.
Good night, welki.
yep. I think my mom had some when I was a kid that was like 20 years old
hoki, readers are wonderful; just don't try walking around with them on.
(i still have mecurichrome, less than 20 years old)
and I remember my neighbor mixing mercurochrome with baby oil for suntanning
old school wound care. and really --- bye!
nef, I have readers all over the house, just not in this movie room with me. hard to watch the movie with them on.
My grandmother was a big believer in mercurochrome and methiolate. I forget which one burned but one was worse than straight isopropyl alcohol.
one of my friends in high school cut her hand and her grandmother like packed brown sugar in and poured turpentine on it. she said it was awful.
I forgot all about methiolate! I thinkitwas the mercurochromethat stung
not sure I know methiolate
OH, MY, hoki! that sounds awful!!
lets not forget the good old iodine! Man, I remember getting all of these things used for cuts and scrapes growing up.
yep another oldie no longer used mcurlschool
How about a boric acid solution as an eye wash!
oh my
it works nicely;
I don't remember that one, curl, I do remember they used plain water when one of my siblings got sawdust or dirt in his eye
Boric acid was great for vaginal infections back when...
And neosporin is evil. I had a severe burn a couple of years ago and kept putting copious amounts of neosporin on it thinking it would keep it from getting infected. Not! I developed an allergic reaction to the neosporin that led to an infection. Then my doctor told me she doesn't recommend it.
sorry, mcurl, didn't mean to mess up your name
works amazingly for scratches or eye infections like pink eye or just a plain old cold in your eye.
hello again friends
Hi Trifioso
ori, my kids' pediatrician told me that years ago about neosporin
hey trif
Welcome back, Trif.
I wonder if I will get arrested if I got out after 10 PM curfew to mail a bunch of letters (I'm supposed to be printing mailing labels so I can do it before curfew tonight)
I'd wait until morning, Nef. Our curfew starts at 7 pm here.
Especially given where you live.
It starts at 10 tonight for us; the "troubles" don't start until dark it seems.
yeah, they seem to ramp up here around 11
That's right, it probably gets darker earlier there, Nef.
*later, rather
where do you live, hoki?
Charlotte, NC suburbs
Oh, great! One of the fireworks seasons is upon us here. This one starts around June 1 and goes until July 15 or so. And fireworks that are illegal almost eveerywhere else are legal here. And lots of illegal ones are used also. One of my dogs gets freaked out.
ugh. my dog, who's 3, hasn't started freaking out with storms or fireworks yet.
I saw that on your profile (but my son is ruining my game and chat here by going on about the current situation here)
we had a few days of fireworks around Mem. Day
I'll be right back; he's distracting me too much from chat.
Hokie - My dog is a 95 lb black and tan coonhound. They are bred to hunt bear and mountain lion and she is afraid of the dishwasher, the roomba, slippery floors and fireworks.
Mine is a golden ret. named Winston and he is scared of so many things we call him Wimpston.
Our friends have a rhodesian ridgeback, which those are bred to fight lions or something and are very large, and he is scared of most everything, incl. grass.
dogs are funny
Indeed. I figured you would actually know what a B&T Coonhound is. Most people in CA think she's a big doberman :D
yes, I've seen them. :D
I like hounds
I love hounds! They are so funny and quirky. Lots of personality. One of the many dogs we had when I was growing up was a ridgeback. She was a wonderful dog.
my dad had beagles when I was growing up
Back. Lori, does a B&T coonhound "look" like a doberman> My daughter has a B&T dog that I thought was a cross between a German Shephard and a doberman; and she weighs about 100 lbs and is very quirky.
I have been thinking about a beagle when my very old dogs pass on. Sounds ghoulish, but I really need a dog in my life.
yeah, I can't imagine not having one in my life
The do look a little like a natural doberman (without ear and tail cropping). I'll send you a picture on FB, Nef.
Thanks. Whitney if very intelligent ;but she's so funny weird in so many ways that I know it isn't the GS side of her making her do the things she does.
Dobies can be quirky/funny too. We had a couple of those when I was growing up and I really liked them. Wonderful dogs. Very easily trained and incredibly loyal.
Googling them, Whitney's colors are exactly the opposite of what's pictured, and she has more of the GS ears ,but her face isn't right; it's too long for a GS.
I would get a dobie, actually, when these guys go, but I really need a smaller dog. I'm getting older and my back is shot and it is very hard to get either of them in the car. I need to downsize.
She looks more like a doberman in color; her ears & tail aren't cropped. Her other dog is a cross between a bulldog and a pit bull; both of them are rescues. Whitney will growl to scold Korv if Korv jumps up on the fence to say hi or barks for no reason.
well, the bottom part of the list turned into a real slog but I am finished.
YAY, hoki carla!!! WTG!!!
Congratulations, hokie. I still have 80 left and probably won't finish.
(my son is backbugging me again)
Check the pics I sent you, Nef.
She looks like a silly girl! :)
She is a goober! Disney got it right with Goofey where the hounds are concerned :D
I sent you a picture of my 3 grandbabies
Haven't come through yet. I'll check later. I would kill for a grandbaby :D
Well, 2 of the 3 are dogs; the other 1 is a real kid.
Can anyone give me a clue for the ne6? I am stumped.
Sorry, ori, I don'thave it yet either, but will help you look
Pt of ne 5/16
Ah, thanks, tiger
Well, babblers, I am giving up. Too many more to find and chores to do. Have a nice evening.
niters, ori.
And thanks, Tigereye.
