Morning all! There should be a more recent pic of Tilly as my pic now....
Oh how cute she is.
It's slightly stretched, despite me taking care to shrink the photo, dammit. Ah well
It must feel like torture to be unable to go see her.
Matty, she's adorable :-)
Thanks. I miss her (and my daughter) terribly
who would have thought such a mean grid with mean letters would hide so many words?47 s's? 29 m's?24 p's? Dont think I'll get far with this!!
And add an S to every word.
I agree with the no7 dizgranny . If you cant do the last 4
letters how can you add the first 311
good morning all. I can't find my glasses!
Uh, oh, I would be in big trouble walking around the house.
... let's see ... were you reading when you fell asleep? ... did you have a bath or shower? ... did you get up in the night and take them down to the kitchen? .... ... my favorite places to lose my glasses
I have retraced my steps. I am sure they will turn up at some point.
I don't wear them to read or use the computer unless I am watching a movie which I wasn
was not
Mr. B loses his glasses hourly
Haha, bichon.
oh dear, I am not that bad
did you mom get my card yet Scrabbs?
Yes, she did. She received it yesterday. Thank you so much. She has gotten 24 cards so far. I had to explain who Periwinkle was.
I am so glad!!
He used to wear progressive. After cataract surgary, he has 3 pairs. More to lose
I must get ready for work. Enjoy the day.
no luck yet. I cannot drive without them :(
Peri, have you checked on top of your head? : D
LOL! I was going to say the same. That's wear mine are if not on my face.
where
halfway, NBT and NBS - time for breakfast
I know someone who keeps her glasses on one of those around the neck things. Then she forgets they are there and starts looking for them.
haha, I did check on the top of my head
Update: glasses found. I save plastic bags from bread and put them in another plastic bag which hangs on a knob of a cabinet door in the kitchen
I guess I placed my glasses on the counter while I washed the dishes. When I wiped the counter the glasses fell into the bag. Thankfully the bag was pretty full and there they were sitting on top of the plastic bags.
I had just announced "I give up" when I turned and saw them there
That's what you get for being so neat and tidy. : D
neat and tidy sometimes. place needs moping and vacumming again but I do not feel like doing it
and living room is cluttered but that is ok with me. I will announce when I clean again :)
seems like a tough grid bbl
LOL! Please do.
I do the best I can. Every time I vacuum, something gets tracked in from outside. Every time I mop, something gets spilled on the floor. It is a vicious cycle.
hahaha Bea. I know you and Judi and Molly will be on pins and needles til I do

Clue, harry?

Clue, Luv?
LWV: change the vowel at the end of a term that describes a tire that doesn't slip on a wet surface... arggh, too slow
luv how about one for the word you just got?

no 7/48 sounds like shoes that don't slip on floors

bye all time for work
hello again, was hiding while I did the first pass. 71 left. feels like I should have found more.
proper noun alert - name that 70s heartthrob in the grid!
anson?
nope. if you're referring to potsie, anson williams, was he ever a heartthrob?
not to me but some might have thought so lol
ohhh leif
howdilly doo, y'all.
ding ding ding
howdy judi
Morning! And re Potsie - he was the Jr High & High School girls...
yeah he sure was hokie!
hi judi
And Leif.. ahh the beautiful surfer boy. LOL
Opps. Sorry
interesting, cad, about potsie and the younger girls. well, joanie did have that crush on him.
last I saw of him he was bald
yeah, he's not so heartthrob now, but we all get older and less attractive :D
lg that is
not saying bald guys are less attractive!
but he's a little heavier too
Leif looked more like a girl, I thought.
some guys get better looking with age
judi very true but not uncommon for the 70s with long haired guys
I'm basing that on my friends and their siblings at the time. Personally, I was more of a Leif fan.. he has not aged well, but, drugs will do that to you. I think he's a yearish older than I am
well, I was a little too young to think he was cute back in the 70s,
I don't mean his hair was long. His facial features were finer - more girlish (at the time).
I grew up in San Diego - he was a total Southern CA hottie, LOL.
cad yeah drugs didn't help him much but he could be a llot worse looking because of them
I gtg will be back..
Yes, he could be MLFAN, guess it's also a lack of self care...
I wish leif was a word. need 3 L's from that top one to finish the whole top row.
what do I clean the floors with? lemop
Do you have the ll, Car;a?
no, thought about it briefly, bea, but then moved on when it wasn't llama
Carla...
I think llama is the extent of the LL words I know. what is the stat?
ll5.10
just go down the column... ;o)
What is it about women who like guys who look like girls?
nm, found it

Do you have the citrus fruits?
geez, I got it, people ;)
did not have the pl of the fruit. still couldn't see it but just typed it anyway.
There is an S in the bottom row...=)
I know, it was hiding
because I can't go backwards and all
Ve6/27?
I hat it when that happens...
add your smeller, une
hate it too
It's as plain as that, Une.
Thanks!!
funny how n4 + what you do with it is in the grid
so, just one LL?
Yes, just one.
Is that top L not grey?
no, still one. and I have the 6/8
Do you have the 7 that goes with that?
oh, you mean the one that uses that darn s? no, thx. top row gray!
=)
can't find any of the 1st col n, are those "not" words?
N + semi-precious stone and plural
thx, those seem stupid :D
There is a no7.48
botany of course
CActus

I could've sworn I had na4/5. must've just thought about it.
We have a large cluster of those cactus in one corner of our yard.

ty
same, that's how I got the ve6, but this was too twisty for me
good morning everyone :)
bbl for last 45 - hi and bye all - have a great day and stay safe
Cluster of Cactus sounds like the name of a band.
morning, nan....
The question of the day...What is for dinner tonight? I am so tired of answering that question.
do they have a thorn section in the band?
wonder what kind of music they would play....
Features the prickolo
They would play salsa and merengue.
sounds like a nightmare. my cousin lived in AZ for a while and we visited when we went to Grand Canyon. right before we got there, her husband was riding his bike and a bee flew under his sunglasses and stung him between the eyes. he wrecked and fell into a cactus and had things stuck all in him.
LOL BzznBea. Salmon and salad here (Mediterranean w/ melon and cucumber)
meals are much easier now that the warm weather is here -- some kind of cold meats and a couple of salads -- love it when I can do most of the work ahead of time :)
the EMTs had to give him morphine to transport him to the hospital while they started picking them out
Oh, poor guy!
Bea, it's time to start ordering out and give yourself a break.
bea, we had breakfast for supper last night. always a hit here.
I know, Molly.
bea, do you think you can guess my two missing a's?
We have biscuits and sausage gravy a lot with fried potatoes.
i made the Chez Panisse Barley salad yesterday and have leftovers
I'd have to go get milk...
well, thanks, ru, but doesn't sound gluten free so I'm out
as5.18
Left row and bottom row blacked out. Time for a break. Probably won't finish this one. 64 left.
hokie do you have to be gluten free?
do not have that one, looking now
yes, mlfan, celiac disease
what is in it beside barley, ru?
Growing up, breakfast for dinner was considered a treat by my sister and I!
LOL! Where have you been all this time, MLF. She always talks about being GF.
yes
yes, I thought it was established ;)
you all are always showing off your ability to eat delicious foods and not have your body turn against you
found the as5! thx
parseley, cherry tomatoes, shallots, barley, cucumbers, sugar peas
it must be challenging carla
that sounds like something I would eat and like. will look it up, ty ru
Carla mentions the gluten free thing almost every day.
Your other A is probably an4
I don't see the as5
it certainly is annoying. I had been reading in the last couple of years about a company working on a vaccine and getting close. of course that was moderna, who has a covid vaccine in trials. but I'd rather have that first. :D
me either peri
I am making potato salad with the potatoes I bought at the farmers market
I am not awake yet
molly mentions everything she finds annoying about me almost every day :P
It doesn't get much better than potato salad with fresh potatoes.
no bea, I have an4
I love the farmers market wish there were more venders
do you have as 4/8?
I love potato salad, but mayo based ones
asking carla...
yes, and as4/5
The rest are all common words, Carla.
ty pen just got a as5
20
do you have four al 4/4 words?
found it, pl that shouldn't be one
*Waits for everyone to scramble for the fourth al*
LOL, we're so transparent

=)
FYI = for your information
thank god
ah, yes....sorry for the confusion...
time for me to give this a rest....bbl to find my last 46....bye all.....
you had me looking for another one :)
yes, going to hang pictures now. BBL for last 50.
now i gotta get to 40 damn it
decided I should eat some breakfast. 48 now. trying to find one L from the lower one. is there a weird one?
I'm al4 only missing one from that L, and one from the upper as well
nm. found it
wtg
HH, there is an LL word from top and I can tell you what my missing one from lower is if you want
why can't sp5/14 have a past tense???
ah got the LL ty.
what was your missing?
dog with tv show
got that. thanks anyway :)
excellent question, dtins
... sp5/14 a twitch ... usually sudden ... usuually muscular
do you have past tense of thing a cowboy does, HH?
yup
barbecued
yes, dos, they weren't looking for a clue but were wondering why that can't be past tense
duh
I didn't have the shortened dog. scottish girl that is
ah, it's often an easy one we overlook ;)
oh, just noticed I just need 1 P. that's unusual. normally there are a lot of weird ones I can't find.
found it!
My last was the weird spelling of the Muslim place of worship and its plural.
ty for those :)
last P or last word of all?
Last for FW.
oh, I get it. guess I didn't have. so fireworks for you. well done.
yeah, I still have 9 M's
still 73 to go here :)
Now I just have to figure out how to tell 150 people on FB about a card shower for my mom without her knowing...
made it to 40. now ru will have to get to 30. :D
can't you make an event and invite them and it only shows for them?
i don't think that' is going to happen today homie
card shower? either this is a shower with cards, which won't get her very clean, or a shower for cards, which will make them all soggy
either way doesn't sound like a good time
yeah.. she'll end up all hallmarked up
It is her 80th birthday. Since we can't have a party, I thought this would be a nice way to help her celebrate.
ooh! good one ru! 5 points
OK. I googled card shower. Its a very nice idea.
happy birthday to her! my dad turned 80 in Feb. 1940 was a good year.
lollollol -- I always have the news turned on at this time of day --- I bet you guys didn't know that the white house bunker has to be inspected by the pres. several ties a month and that he needs his wife and son with him to do it!!!
I read that as he turned 80 in 1940, Carla. =)
Damn Bea, your Mom is only 80. She must have had you very young.
sorry, he was born then
She was just barely 18.
wow
I can relate. I had my oldest ten days before I turned 21.
my oldest sister was born when my mom was 19
You should get one of those yard signs like 2Bit got for his girl.
ty dose
That's a thought, Molly. I need to ask her what cake she wants with her homemade ice cream.
yeah, my mom was a few months shy of 21 with my brother. but her mom was 30 when she had her first kid and my dad had a brother 20 years older, so his parents were like 40 when they had him. so all my grandparents were really old.
... my record was having a discussion with a girl in a Grade 10 math class about how to get you 2 year old to go to sleep ... ... she was just short of 14 when her baby was born ...
yikes
was R Kelly the father?
lol ru
i am 80 and my oldest is 62
my mom is going to be 80 this year
dose yikes
how old were you when you met his father SM?
mosk
My mom would have been 104 this year. I was the baby of the family.
I keep telling myself that 80 is the new 60 -- hope I will be able to believe that soon
cyber sometimes I think my mom forgets how old she is
i am the baby of the family ..hello origami:)
a good friend of ours just turned 80. His oldest is 19.
jeezus
it's easy to do, mlf, on a day that you are feeling well with lots of energy
a late bloomer :)
true cyber
what are the odds of that harry?
well, my dad is every bit of 80 and more with the parkinson's. it's very sad. he used to be so active.
... My father-in-laws mother had her first son fight in the Boer War; her third in WWI and her eleventh in WWII.
i wouldn't want kids this late in life no way
11th?
when I was 50 or so, a good friend had twins. His first. I couldnt imagine getting up all night at that point. But he loved it.
mr. homie is one of 11 kids. I think they were born over a span of 20 years
i guess she got a bang out of wartime
ouch
:D
that's quite a span dos
My father in law was the 11th of 13. At his funeral my wife had two cousins show up who were older than her father.
First kid at 17 ... last at 54
unreal
i don't understand having so many children so unbelivable to me
my first cousins on my dad's side are same generation as him. his mom had one at 20 and then another at 37, then my dad at 40.
truly amazing - 37 years apart.
all with the same man?
I don't either, ru. mr. homie says his mom liked the attention of having a baby. once they get older the older sisters had to take care of the younger kids.
...a very good Catholic gentleman
so full siblings, 37 years apart. wow.
... but it wasn't that uncommon ... my own grandmother was pregnant or dealing with a child under the age of one from December 1923 through 1941
agreed, it used to be more the norm. that's why it's so weird that mr. homie is one of 11. that was 1963 - 1984.
but it's even still going on because I used to be in a lot of sewing groups on FB and there are plenty of women in there with 5+ kids, some have 8-13. and everyone's like, oh, that's so awesome! I'm not sure I agree.
whew.. i read that as swing groups at first
well, it's possible I typed that
nope, sewing - and these are like clothes sewing groups, so these women make matching clothes for their 10 kids.
I had a student in 2003 who was the 16th of 17
Duggar? (I think that was their name)
... I have a friend who is oldest of 10 ... the first six (there's a pair of twins in there) all have birthdays in November ... her father was working on the D.E.W. and got a month off each year in February ... .... six kids in five years as a defacto single mom ... not my idea of a fun tine
okay, have run over my breakfast break time. need to get busy. BBL for last 38!
when my sister stopped after two kids and it had been a few years, my grandma - mother of 9 - said to her, "looks like you have something figured out that i didn't"
heh
... agreed ... the city is replacing my driveway which they dug up to replace the sewers last year ... it stinks around here just now ...
we had our 5 in 7.5 years.
like ripping off a bandaid :)
it's so disappointing when something you were sure you remembered being a babblet, isn't a word after all
wow.. this is really amazing to read
You have to remember that women in the 50's and early 60's did not have access to reliable contraception like they do now
yeah. and my grandma wasn't one to talk to doctors about virtually anything anyway.
I feel sorry for women who had no access to contraception and had to endure pregnancy after pregnancyh
but so4! what light from yonder window breaks?
I feel sorry for the ones whose husbands didn't think that contraception was their responsibility
and let's not forget that childbirth has historically been the #1 KILLER of women.
It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon
hey, my nature name is in the grid today :D
no 7 please?
Your nature name?
no7 not on the weekly lineup
nan: like antislip tires, just change the final vowel
last year i had to go to science camp with my students and we each chose a nature name
puck?
that sk4 is what i thought was a babblet and then it wasn't!
snow tires?
don't know of another name for them
Or shoes that won't slip on wet surfaces
think soles of shoes for a factory floor. they don't slide.
ah -- ty harry
non tread?
yes tread :)
lots of tread
I don't think anyone wants non-tread tires
don't know what that has to do with na

wow, for a wonder, Ps aren't that hard today. just easily found all but one
time for breakfast :)
still missing 5
i'm missing 5 p's too
all the ones i have are 4s and 5s except for an old hillbilly sounding word for the group of all those children people used to have
same here
so, just keep trying 4s and 5s :D
yup - found another :)

name that proper noun! town in both Mass. and Ore.
salem
as 5/18 clue pls?
ding ding ding!!!
I was going to guess, but was afraid the prize would be being burned at the stake.
*looks at the A on molly's forehead*
that town is much better known for having one of the first recreational pot shops
Which reminds of of the typo of the week. One of my field guys wrote that he steaked out a job site. I wonder if he got a baked potato and salad with that.
Medium rare, please!
hi champ
Good morning!
did you give him a ribeye ... er i mean ribbing molly?
Harry, I don't want to break your little doobie loving heart, but I think Salem is most widely know for the witch trials.
as 5/18 clue pls?
inquire of Mr. Guinness, perhaps, MLFAN
I need it to Mlf...
my doobie-loving heart :)
i think that's the 5/20/
Earlier in the year, we had a CEO of the State Construction board use "job sight" in one of her emails. Not one of her peon subordinates caught that before it went out.
no, 5/20, you inquired of anybody at all
Same first three as the 5/20...
got it
5/20 would be inquire of a talking horse
Hee hee!
what is it about millenials that they can't edit or spell
their programs don't check for context, so they just bleep over it.
Or more likely, they don't take the time.
plenty of older people can't either
I'll take it from the run of the mill employee, but a CEO is supposed to have underlings to proof and prevent things like that
i meant millennials :D
i'm just shocked reading typos and poor editing on several sports sites it's incredible to me
having to pay someone to edit probably just isn't something companies are willing to do in these profit-driven times...
phantom: sonnet
Almost all CEO's have at least one (if not more) executive assistants. It is their job to prevent stuff like that from going out. And this email went to a LOT of people.
Vs Vanquished!
No7/48 please?
uh-oh, here we go again
Sorry.....
down to 50. gotta go grade some tests.
not your fault lol
people were talking about tires that don't do a certain thing when you hit the brakes - only, change the vowel in it.
Thanks!!

To misstearweus: I rarely post in this space, but I want to thank you for sharing your comments yesterday. I was moved to tears to hear your experiences. I am so sorry that this is what you have to put up with daily. Your stories help to personalize the injustice that people live with daily in this country.
Second that
agreed. it's crazy to me that someone would call the cops on a woman in jogging clothes sitting down on the curb instead of asking if she needs help. I'm sorry that happens.
also, I share your love of athletic clothing. :D
Living in CT makes it difficult for me to comprehend
I live in the south and it isn't any easier
... heavens, it happened in Regina last night ... a city of 200,000 ... provincial capital of Saskatchewan (north of the Dakotas and Montana) ... a guy parks in his own driveway, takes stuff out of the back of his car, takes it into his house (oh yeah, he's black) ... neighbour posts something about "lock your doors" and calls the cops ...
... shameful

I'd been reading popular science things on my phone late at night and there was one about that topic the previous evening ... ... but if you want information on physics you've should ask uusue ... she has a PhD. in the stuff and is very good at providing elementary level explanations of very difficult concepts
What the areas that is interesting to me about it is that there's a theory that it could "infect" ordinary matter and in the process convert it to more strange matter

Drinks on the boat
is that a hint?
... it's certainly a fine suggestion!
is that similar to drinks on the house?
drinks on the house? *holds out glass*
doesn't jimmy buffet have a song about boat drinks?
... he has songs about drinks from just about anywhere
ah yes, the boys in the band ordered boat drinks
there is a word I learned from babble connected to this. . . zarf?
Drinks on the boat is from Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead. I'll have drinks on the boat with Andy Garcia anytime.
I'm not familiar with zarf
JMC can go on about zarf for hours
I'm not picky. Drinks is fine
zarf, zerk, zlote, zyzzyva...all good z words :)
IS that the word Molly? I thought I would never forget!!
Yes, it is your ornamental drinking cup
did i miss a z in the grid???????
just keep looking
No?????????
yep it wasn't showing up in my dictionary and had a momentary panic
it's in the 6th column mk, clear as day
no mkg it is related to drinks on the boat.
lol moolingwa
... but if zyzzyva was in the middle of the grid would there be room for any other words? ....
some of these 4s I was missing were pretty obvious
I would love to find out
... then obviously you need a drink on a boat
yeah, I didn't even have so4 until I saw hurshy doing romeo & juliet
A zarf is a holder for drinking cups on boats attached to the wall so they swing and don't spill. The are also the filligree holders you sometimes see around coffee or tea cups.
how about one in a hot air balloon, we have plenty of them out here

People REALLY need to stop using FU as an abbreviation for follow up. Because when I read "FU email to A Scarano to obtain the cost letter" I DO NOT think follow up.
not the first thing that comes to mind for me either
agree as to FU.
hahaha
LOL!
but makes for some amusing reading

fun ubiquity
... ah yes
not sure I've ever seen ubiquity in babble or scrabble or any of the word games I've played to be honest
I think you really have to be out there like Pluto not to see how bad that abbreviation looks. And God forbid it ever go out in an email and get misinterpreted.
ubiquity is not ubiquitous

always amused me that the Philadelphia Flyers played at the FU Center
It is like when the computer tells me that what I have printed has gone to the MFP (main frame printer) Main Frame is not what my mind comes up with
Oh no, it is PERFECT that the Flyers play at FU Center. The Eagles should play there too.
Well it's now the WF Center
Not the WTF Center?
I've been to a fair number of stadiums around the country, but Philly is it's own special place for some obnoxious fans

That one should really be BOM. Of course Bachelor of Science isn't very good either.
I always use B. Mus. then those that have the education degreed are bemused.

Thank you America for finally protecting democracy and pushing against T---p
We are the laughingstock of the world
Prtoet our constitutional right to assemble, free speech.
posse
nuts
Americans have been protecting democracy since the 1700's. And we are not the laughingstock of the world. Otherwise people would not immigrate here in droves.
In reference to our president and the standards of what a president represents, akazev might be right. I feel like we are a laughing stock of the world :(
But, for now, he is still our president, and we have to respect him. We can oppose him, but all respectfully.
i respect the office of the presidency, but not that asshole
I would have to agree ruru lol... Im sure there is something good he has done, but nothing that is hugely noted in my book.
Its hard for me to look past when he was just running for office and the racist and chauvinistic comments he would make.
But he is our president, and whether we like it or not, he is what is representing our country to the world.
Hello again. Went to a nursery earlier and almost died of heat stroke with a mask on in the greenhouse part. But you’ll be glad to know (or sorry!) I made it. Now relaxing by the pool. Still have 24 words to find.
85 here, and i have to severely limit myself to how long I wear those masks, more than half hour and I feel like I am ready to pass out lol
Hi folks
85 here right now too
Howdy, ori
It's stinking hot here also hokie.
Looks like kn5/6 mentioned in the chat are my missing 2 k’s but I have no idea about stinging bee like insects
Weather channel app says 87 feels like 91
Only 52% humidity so we got that going for us
104 here.
Humidity is only 16% so there is that :D
Yeah, but it’s a dry heat, right? ;)
Ha! Great minds
Yes, like a blast furnace is dry heat :D
I went to Vegas before in July and it was like 105. I do actually prefer that than this.
Respect the president or not. That is anyone's choice. But disrespect for this country and the people who fought, and still fight, to keep for what it is, bothers me. The men and women who serve to defend this country deserve that respect.
I am not a fan of humidity. Actually, I don't do well in hot weather. I grew up in the SF Bay Area so anything over 85 is much too hot for me.
We went to SF once in Oct and it was hot, but next time I went was July and we froze.
Yes, Molly, he may be charged with running the country but he doesn’t represent the many fine folks here.
Sep/Oct are the warmest months in SF and in much of the nearby coast.
The big interior valley starts to cool off so it doesn't suck in the marine layer like it does in the summer.
Ori, my son doesn’t do well in the heat either, and his spring soccer season just restarted yesterday with guideline, etc. he chose not to finish the season which is fine with me. I’m sure there will be kids passing out with facemasks on playing soccer in this heat/humidity
We also drove up to Crescent City after SF in July on that trip and still laugh about how it appears to be 50 and foggy every day of the year.
I can't imagine playing sports with a mask on.
It's like that in Crescent City. I have never been there when it was warm.
Well, it said you have to arrive and leave with one on but they are encouraging them to wear them during practice. That does not make any sense to me, if you aren’t going to wear one during practice, why put one on to get in your car?
For now they are just practicing in their own little squares, but too hot for that IMO
I think it is ridiculous to require kids to play soccer with masks on.
Well, I guess I’ll go make supper and come back later to list.
Yeah, do any of the kids actually want to play that badly?
My son didn’t :D
I’m sure they just don’t want to have to do refunds
I am somewhat amused that the whole "mask enforcement" thing came along months after the virus was real and closing things down.
They did do a $350 refund but said they would apply as a credit for next year. My son is aging out though so we are supposed to get a check.
Yeah, they dropped the ball on the whole mask thing from the beginning
I know some don’t believe they do anything, but some protection has to be better than no protection at all
We now have signs in my office building telling us where to stand outside the elevator, where to stand inside the elevator, what stairways to use to go up, what stairways to use to go down, how to wash our hands. I laugh all day.
I think the masks were a scheme to make people feel safe to go outside their homes again. its really only a preventive measure if all parties are wearing them. But If half are and half aren't- it really does no justice.
the mask is worn to protect your germs from other people, not to keep their germs out
the rules are so crazy now because covid 19 is still very much active, but so many people are anxious to get out of their homes. Its like damned if you do, damned if you dont
I got used to masks when I spent some time in Hong Kong during the SARS epidemic. Hong Kong is hot and humid most of the year, so masks got damp pretty quick. Like others, I always had a spare or two in my purse or pocket to swap out for my soggy one.
Also, hand sanitizer was everywhere then, and my hands got really chapped from all the washing and alchol-based sanitizer.
i bet!
It is really not too much of an imposition to ask people to keep distance and wash hands frequently (and some people need reminding all the time). Masks should be worn on public transport IMHO where distance can be a problem. If these are the only way we have to keep the spread down - what's the big deal
I agree, lynxxx, it's part of being a part of a community where everyone takes care of everyone else. This idea seems to have been lost in the US, though.
in certain parts of the US jan.. not everywhere
It baffles me that people are encouraged to make these changes to keep the disease at bay, but people still question it.
It baffles me that people are encouraged to make these changes to keep the disease at bay, but people still question it.
good evening! I see we are on a bigger run now...
No, you're right, it isn't everywhere. Our neighbors have been terrific--we had one neighbor diagnosed with COVID 19 several weeks back, and the neighborhood blockwatch sprung into action to help take care of his wife, who is in her eighties with Alzheimers.
i'm sure all the protesting is going to cause a big spike in infections
Unfortunately so.
I think it already has caused a spike. I live near Cleveland, and our numbers have jumped a lot.
I haven't done an outside shopping run since early March, but I am thinking it may be now or never, given that.
It's probably too early to see an increase from the demonstrations yet, but the increased socializing during Memorial Day weekend is probably the source of any current spike.
That could be true. it takes a while for the tests to come back, and even for symptoms to show.
If they show at all!
it would be a good idea for all of them to isolate for 2 weeks, for many of them it will take that long to figure out how to set up the TV's they've stolen
I have done outside shopping, with a mask on, and a small list of items. In and out as quickly as possible. The trips are far and few between, and early in the morning, due to how uncomfortable I feel with the mask. I wear it, but I don't like it lol
Around here the looting was more destructive than larcenous. Mostly clothing and mostly thrwon into the streets...
You are right! the contagion is not from sick people that are showing any signs... its from sick people that show no signs and go about their business like nothing is happening
i wear a mask in all stores and now at restaurants that are open here. not at the table, but walking through the patios (most dining is outside here right now) but for the most part I"ve stayed home for months
My daughter came over yesterday - for the first time in 6 weeks - and we still kept distance between us. It was so lovely to see her
By me, it was a combo of looting and vandalizing businesses. Our downtown area was hit hard, and has been closed down all week because of it. A second protest happened yesterday, at a nearby police station and was peaceful.
Yeah, I remember my last outing was March 9th, and I was a nervous wreck the whole time. Of course, I am in Seattle, which at that time was Ground Zero for the US.
you should have invited old BR to brunch Lynxx :D
I have ordered from door dash, but have not gone to any public dining places as of yet. I am waiting to see how the numbers spike first, plus we never really ate out a lot before anyways.
spal spal
I thought maybe it would take if I tried it twice.
And good evening.
We have been ordering groceries for no-contact delivery every ten days or so. I'm nearly out of milk and eggs, so will probably make another order in the next day or so.
*Waits to see if any Italian football club fans know what wht means
just got the un 7/ 8 combo!
down to 60 words
Groceries for no-contact delivery. Yet someone shopped your groceries, and you have no idea how "sterile" they have kept. It is all a crap shoot.
I haven't even gotten 60 words! 38 for me
I don't know what wht would mean to Italian football fans.
I still dont have the 9 and only one 8 as of yet
If they were English Football fans I would guess something likes Watford Hates Tottenham.
Molly, that's true. We bring in the perishables and leave them untouched in the fridge for a couple days. The non-perishables get stored untouched in the basement pantry. And, of course, we handwash after handling. The current medical advice is that surface contact is probably not a meaningful source of transmission. But, given my husband's immunocompromised condition, we take no chances. Wwe leave our mail in the basement untouched for a few days, too. Of course, these days it's nothing but junk mail and bills, anyway, so no worries!
mi8 is to say something incorrectly and the 9 is to have done that yesterday.
I'm lucky to have colleagues in the public health school who keep me abreast of the current science on COVID 19.
Wow Jan. I can't imagine taking that kind of time to keep things sterile. That seems like it would take up the entire day. I don't know how people "get back to normal" if that is their defense line.
It's really no problem. Since we only get groceries every ten days or so, it takes maybe ten minutes to get things put away in a safe manner. What has been more of a problem is dealing with my husband's chemo during this time. For awhile, it was cancelled entirely.
missle
that's about 4 of those now aka.. you can go to the PB for the rest of the day :D
that no7.48 is a bit of a stretch
Well, that one wasn't a word, fortunately
Jan, I am sorry you have to deal with chemotherapy treatments during all this. My sister (now cancer free, yay!) was going through that last year. I am so glad she is beyond it with all this going on. Best wishes to your husband.
hello lyn
....waving to Owl in the back of the room
Thanks, Molly. We had just gotten to the point where we'd come to terms with dealing with it when the COVID situation escalated out of control. Still, we are lucky, having good health insurance and good advice on how to cope.
lost my tree in the derecho today. now under a severe thunderstorm warning and there are signs of rotation on radar.

Scary, TO!!

oh man, sky is black! storm already racing over the river.
i am just nervous that the huge limb in theyard will blow into the slider.
From the little Spanish I know, I would guess they must come from the right. :^)
i think it means straight
True wht. Used to just be called a fast moving line of severe storms. Now we need a "trendy" name for it. : D

Well, I need to leave for a Zoom call. Will have to come back for my last 71.
Zoom now rules the world.
You have somewhere safe to go Owl?
So, who bought stock in Zoom back in February?

Certainly that! Sadly, that number doesn'

Bye all...and keep safe - especially Owl
i paid about 208 a share
*Not a Zoom user...doesn't get the 208 joke
When people flock to something like Zoom, I move in the other direction
Same with using phrases like "reach out". Is that ever going to end? Can't we go back to "contacting" people?
Zoom is better than Skype in quality, but all of these online meeting systems are a poor substitute for in-person communication.
i'll be attending a zoom happy hour shortly. :)
Well, at least that sounds like fun!
Could I please get a clue for the sa 6?
I have a two day--eight hour a day--Zoom meeting scheduled in a couple of weeks. Dread is already building...
I enjoy being on Zoom at least once a day. I teach two classes a week. I take classes on it. I socialize (happy hour). Hold board meetings/committee meetings. It does not replace being together but it will have to do for now
I will have to teach on Zoom in August--two large 100 plus person classes, plus discussion sessions and online office hours. I am not looking forward to it...
What do you teach, jan?
Law, and linguistics.
Ah
Found that s6

hello all...
Hello!
Hi pen, phan
And welcome, Hod.
Thanks!
I just had a little nap. Woke up to a whole lot of J's in my add word box....
And Hod - missed your "yo"
thankfully you didn't roll over onto the add button
right?
So wait...you can nap and words magically appear in your word list? I am so living the wrong life.
Just buy a cat and it will happen for you, too!
No. I had the add word box full of the letter J it went on for miles...
defi
Oh good because I am SO not a cat person
Argh!!! Sorry...(slinks off to the PB)
I'm not either, but we 'hosted' a neighbor's cat for a few weeks. It decided that my laptop keyboard was a warm place to take a nap.
I'm not a cat person either. But I always seem to have one. Cats love me. Go figure.
I have 2 cats
Wait, no wine in the penalty box?? When did that happen?
*Pours Jan a healthy dose of wine
Much obliged...
This is why I am not a cat person. They think they can "be" wherever they want to.
I would have a glass, but it will just put me back to sleep..
The cabana boys haven't been around for a long time. So is no one stocking the PB?
Yup. I once say a T-shirt that read, "Dogs have owners. Cats jhave staff."
I found out it is going to cost me $4500 to replace my water heater. Apparently nothing is up to code in the closet it is in and they have to do a lot of work before installing the new one.
bummer, ori....
The cabana boys are not lovers of mask wearing. They went on strike.
Oh, no! Can you get a second opinion? Sometimes a code work-around can be found.
Dogs tell you that you are the most wonderful human to ever walk the earth. Cats tell you the world would be a better place without you.
Let me see what I have in the cellar. I think maybe a nice Italian red would be nice.
I thought about that, jan, but I would rather have it up to code as I may be selling in a couple of years.
are the un 6s and 7 "real" words?....
Well, don't forget to put in your sales blurb something about the fully-upgraded and up-to-date water heater!
Yes, pen, they're normal words (for once!)
Indeed!
ty....didn't want to rattle my brain for nothing....
Okay, I'm off to fix dinner. (I warned you all you would regret putting wifi in the penalty box...)
Are you going to use the le6 from the grid to make your dinner?
The s's are endless.
yes....i have 5 left and two of them are sp 7 words....
3 left - 2 4 letter words and a 5 letter one.
I broke down and went to the list. struggling with monkeying this kn5/6.
I just hit half way
i just have three UN words left...
You didn't see the kn5/6 clues about sounding like stinging bees?
I saw the clue but couldn't figure out what stinging bees, but I have an idea now - mascot of Emory & Henry College. Trying now.
that's it
Congratulations, hokie

I am looking for those last two sp7 that someone was talking about. are these real words?
i guess some of us have bigger vocabularies than others.....i don't think I have ever seen two of those UN words and they weren't in the dictionary....
got one!
not a regular word
I hadn't heard them before hokie.
the other is the same except for last two letters...
i am talking about the SP words...
got it, thx

all v's, not seeing them. guessing they are not regular words. guess I will look them up.
sp7, ending with mr gore means relating to marriage, spousal. sp7 ending with not off means a projection on the side of a boat, seaplane, or a ship.

yep, just found it by looking it up. thanks though.

I could use the clue for un6, please?
nm. Just found it.
un + Babble player cosdem
his last name I mean. Sorry
I need a clue for the no 7 though, please
hi. san francisco here, 36 minutes to curfew. lucky this is a huge residence, almost 3/4 of a block square, 14 stories. So we have an inside/outdoor patio in the middle. If it weren't so windy i would go and sit out and read there.... but the wind is rising to 24mph. Too much for me but not for some stubborn ping-pong players. Mom and sons try to play while dad chases the balls.
oh, well. back to the game - 42 left.
no7 It won't let you slip but change the last vowel.
don't know who condemn is, sorry
how about un + Scottish for "know" + consonant times 2
I hope you are all able to chat with each other. if you are, i can't figure out how. nice to see your graphics and funny baby heads though.
or Barbie
or Barbies husband if you don't know the Scottish word
I am a terrible cluer
un6/33 is un + Superman's alter ego; 6/36 change the last letter
