fireworks!!!
good night all!
FWs
YAY, dizgrannie!!! WTG!!!
And WTG, marksdolly too!!!
goodness, just saw a post in my FB crochet group - the admin posted a pattern to crochet a "tapestry square" that said "black lives matter" and the thing went nuts. Triggered people all over the place. Almost a hundred "angry" faces - and a bunch of hateful comments - who knew crocheters were so opinionated? I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked! :o
(well, not really)
how sad, rbud.
Not really the place for politics, though, a crochet pattern page, heehee
stuck with 13 to go -- tomorrow. Good night/day everyone :)
niters, nan.
nite, nan.
And to think, I only went to FB in the first place because my sis posted a video of Mom playing piano a little while before she passed away.
got sucked into reading posts - I need to avoid that.
Very true, rbud. It's pretty impossible (sometimes) to just go to FB to read 1 post, isn't it?
It was a lovely tapestry square, too, I was already thinking of other things it could say as well.
yes, before you know it, you can have wasted away an hour or two if you're not careful.
maybe - all lives matter
well, they do, yes, ursh, but the point of contention is that black folks are often being treated like they DON'T matter. Thus they are rightfully upset.
white folks just tend to slide by without all the hassles that other races get, it seems. At least in the U.S.
And "all lives matter", while certainly true, does not address the differences. It's like saying "there, there" and then going on as if nothing has changed. Just my opinion of course.
"Save the Whales" did not mean don't save the dolphins or the manatees or even the flounders....
Agreed, freep.
Good explanation, freep. You said it very clearly.
racism has always existed in this country and I have never been able to understand it. It seems so incredibly illogical to me.
Wow, rose, that is sad. I am an avid crocheter. I would never have imagined that it was such a polarized craft.
Hey, there, Nef. Nice to see you.
Every time te5/16 is in the grid, I think it's my last word. Fireworks.
Hi ori. How are you?
I'm hanging in there, Nef. How are you guys doing?
YAY, justafreep!!! WTG!!!
Nice, just
I'm doing fine, DH is slipping. IDK if prolonged isolation is causing it or what, but his memory is going now.
Oh, Nef. I am so sorry.
You guys have had so many challenges lately. I am keeping you in my thoughts.
and we're on a waiting list for assistive living now. (I'm glad with Covid 19 that there hasn't been space yet; but it's getting harder to deal withhim
Oh, so sorry.
I figure we've been lucky so far; so....
Well, certainly resilient, if not exactly lucky.
He's had MS for 32 years; it's been a pretty good run.
I'm sure having a nurse in the house helped :D
I keep reminding him of that! :-)
Much sympathy, Nef. Our daughter (who lives here with me) also has MS. She is 32 now, already needs a walker, and her memory is already pretty bad. She's always been "developmentally disabled" as they put it. It's sure not easy. (((hugs)))
She has been getting infusions for almost a year now, it seems to be helping some. Less shaking, stronger walking.
My husband had MD. When the symptoms started to become obvious with her, we thought it was likely the same. But they say not.
rbud (((hugs))) It isn't easy; but what else is there to do? Is your daughter on one of the betaserin drugs or something else?
Something called "tysabri" I think? Not sure if it's in that group of drugs or not.
Poor baby, rose. I remember that she was so absolutely devastated by Easy's death. My heart goes out to you guys.
thanks. I feel so bad for her, but she's a determined soul, and stubborn about doing for herself all she can. Which is good at least.
Tysabri is supposed to be a great med for MS; My hubby was on Avonex for 15 years but then they said he was "too old" for relapses & they took him off of it.
Her being stubborn is good; as long as she doesn't wer herself out being stubborn. do you know of the"spoon theory" rbud?
Yes, she has seemed like a trooper in my interactions with her. Please give her my best wishes!
no, can't say I do, Nef. and thanks, ori, I will.
how does one get "too old" for relapses!
the "spoon theory" is that you imagine that you start out the day with so many spoons (of energy?) for the whole day. Well, if it takes you 8 spoons to get dressed & eat breakfast and 3 to go to work; and then everything you do requires more spoons, pretty soon you run out and you have not choice but to stop and rest.
Supposedly, MS relapses don't happen to people over 65!!! DH is 72 now, and he's going through high dose steroid bump & tapers (@ now) during the pandemic.
I see, I think. So you'd need to manage your "spoonfuls" carefully, I would think.
Yes. Here's a link that explains it better: https://tinyurl.com/ydeq85yt
More (((hugs))), Nef, sounds exhausting. Is he on any special diet?
Wow. Again, you have so much to manage. I have to take myself off to bed now. Peace be with you all.
We've tried several through the years; but honestly, he does better with the Dash diet (It's a combo of a Mediterranean diet and ?? (I can't remember!) It's basically healthy eating. Does your daughter on a special diet?
Good Night tori. take care of yourself!
ori! Not tori!
no, she eats what she wants, and I can't convince her otherwise. I try, but...
Night, ori. :)
We've always eaten a fairly healthy diet; I worked in a cardiac ICU for 34 years so low fat, low salt for most of that time. the ADSH diet is supposed to be good for brain function too
she drinks far too many sodas, but has seemed to lose interest in a lot of other junk she used to eat a lot of. So that's good. Can't get her to eat fresh veggies, but she'll eat lots if they are steamed or cooked to death, haha. WE don'
we don't fry much any more, except her favorite french fries. Mostly bake meats.
Looking at the time; I need to get to bed too! I *try* to get 7 hours of sleep a night and I'm way behind on that lately.
well, sleep well! Have enjoyed talking, thanks for the info! :)
We found the carbonated water (SodaStream) with the calorie-free drink flavors has really cut out DH's soda cravings.
Good thought, I'll have to look into that. I don't drink soda myself unless it's aro
*around, haha.
Actually I don't much care for it in general. Too bloaty.
Sleep well everyone - I am just getting up!
yeah, we haven't had regular soda for about 4 or 5 years here; but our son bought some when he had friends over for the Super Bowl & he bought a couple of cases. I *think* there's just 1 or 2 cans left from that night.
And Good night now! (I'm actually going now)
nite again, Nef. I'm still up, spellit. No point in trying to sleep much before 2:30 or 3:00 AM here, everyone in the house is an either evening shift workeror just a night owl.
and I just sleep in bits and pieces as needed any more.
big train just went by the house, too, it's regular this time of night. Rattles the place, haha.
Will you go into assistive living also, nef?
huh. what are the odds that ad 5/20 would be in the grid two nights in a row?
gosh, I didn't think about that. I think I thought she meant just assistance at home, like we had with my husband near the end. (he had cancer, not just MD) - didn't think about assisted housing. But I think she's gone on to bed.
a little higher than you'd expect. There is a certain repetition in the letters in the grids.
hi babblers *hugs*
hi, sprite! but I can't say I'd ever seen the ad5 used anywhere before now, haha.
hehehe gotta love babble and enable :D
oh my I found the 9 already!

What kind of ice cream are you making? And thank you for reminding me that I need to get the ice cream maker freezer base in the freezer so it's ready for 4th of July.
Just a vanilla ice cream. Made a pound cake the other day. It is best if it sits several days. Then we will have lemon curd over the cake.
Sounds delicious.

Well, with the word "hoist" one might thing of a spear or stick like object. If Shakespeare was around today he might have said "The jackass engineer will probably blow himself up"

I knew a guy in high school who thought petards were the tights that guys wore in Shakespeare plays. : D

ah cool thanks
i've been finding sometimes that babblets will appear in crossword puzzles i'm doing, and i'm like, "oh THAT's what that word means?" lol
yeah, I've learned a lot of words playing this game but don't ask for a definition!
My cousin gets frustrated when I play scrabble with her because I'll put a word down and she says "what does that mean?" and I'll reply "I don't know, but I know it's a word" LOL
my family is the same way Luv. I still can't remember what a terne is
lol
You should up your game and play that if you don't know the definition of the word, you can't play it. Anyone with a decent memory can memorize words. It is knowing what they mean that builds a vocabulary. : D
My vocabulary is just fine, thank you, but how often do you use the archaic words than are in Enable?
Molls I can't spell and there are things I don't remember but then there are things I do know and do that others do not. I play to have a good time.
Molls will tell you I use zarf all the time. hahaha
Well you get 48 points for zarf on a triple word score and you know the definition of that one
yepper! haha
I would be embarrassed to use some of the words in Babble. I would feel like one of those people who uses obscure words to show off.
I play with my phd physicist nephew and a friend who wrote the code for the times zones on your (and everyone elses) computer and cell phone. They just naturally know more than I do. and that is fine
don't know if she's still here, but thanks to Hursh for the great c8 clue
When I played Boggle with my mother when she was failing in sight and mind she would sit there and while the rest of us were writing 3, 4, and 5 letter words she would come up with something with 13 letters
I like that clue too Luv
yes, my sister had a stroke last year and there are some cognitive deficits but not when it comes to playing scrabble!

Hi Nef and Soodle. I hope you're both haviong good days
Zi 4/9. C’mon Harp!!! You can do this. 🤣
Zi 4/9
Thanks Nef. We seem to be beating this wretched plague, slowly but surely. It’s been 90 days (but who’s counting?) since I was in my office. I find working from home difficult. Lack of self discipline, I suppose.
I'm just glad I'm retired, Soodle, and due to worn out joints, I couldn't volunteer to be a nurse at my old hospital. (It's 2 blocks from where the riots were so bad)
19 to go here... I'd list but it isn't working...
Oh my. The turmoil in the US has overtaken Covid in the news headlines here. So scary
may I have the stats for the 8 please?
Cu 8/75 Harp
I'm in the St. Paul suburbs (MPLS & St. Paul are the Twin Cities) and we used to live south of the west end of Lake St. My husband grew up about 4-5 blocks from the 3rd precinct. They reported that 6 miles of Lake St. was destroyed.
Hey Nef - I'm in MN now... small town West of Owatonna (Waseca)
Hi CadFan, that's a nice town.
Small... very very small. But the people are pretty nice.
Stay safe, friends, please. I’m signing off now - almost 11.00 pm here. Good night all.

yikes! didn;t know it was not working.
You have to love Babble. You know ... those moments when you are embarrassed with yourself for trying ridiculous words and they are accepted?
yep
Most people probably didn't try Lickety because it is a small grid. Glad it is up and running in case tomorrow is a larger grid.
