That movie is like Scotch. People either love it or they hate it. And yes, it is very American. I can see why British people would not like it. Same reason I'm not a big fan of British TV.
He didn't hate it. He was just...underwhelmed. I not only have memories of watching with my parents, but I think, given my parents were born in the early 30s, it particularly resonated with them (especially my dad - my mum's parents were German immigrants in NY whereas my dad group up in Pennsylvania in various smallish towns around Philly) and it rubbed off on me
It is a very generational movie. I remember growing up in the 60's and being stuffed into snowsuits like those kids.
I was that age in the 70s, and suffered much the same ;)
It's not one of my favorite Christmas movies, but I do own it and it's in my line up because it's fun.

It is a toss up between the musical version of Scrooge and The Polar Express.
I've never seen The Polar Express. I'm not sure about Scrooge (the Patrick Stewart version of A Christmas Carol is superb)

I don't know. I like the original Miracle on 34th Street. Scrooged (with Bill Murray) is fun, but the ending lets it down. The Snowman is excellent, though short, so not really a movie. I often struggle with schmaltz!

well, we try not to post the words in the chat box

and you need to be a bit more specific if you want clues, not just "four letter words" - we usually only do clues for 4s if they are very weird, anyway
so how do I be more specific
well you can start by using some of the extra helps that are available - see toward the bottom of the page where there is a link to Lickety's Babble Clues? that will give you a list of all the words each day - not the words themselves but the first two letters, length, and point value for each word
then when you get stuck you know what to ask for

the points for 4 letter words are just adding up the values that you see on the tiles. for 5 letter words you add up and x 2, for 6, it's x 3, and so on

Well, it has been clued that it is the entire third row. That only gives you two letters to add after that.

I dont know if this will help you, carolina, but it helped me a ton when I was new - don't focus on trying to finish every grid when you are new. Try to work on getting the hang of how it all works, and aim for finishing as you get more fluid.

and did anyone explain the points to you? that is helpful to look for the right letters to make a word. like 4 letter words are the points on the tiles added together. 5 letter words is the point total x2, 6 letter words is point total x3, etc.
so, an 5/14 , divide by 2 and the point total you are looking for is 7 for the 5 tiles that make up the word.
