stuck on the last one for a long time
Congrats, Ru
hi liz long time no see
True - on at different times, I guess. Hope all's well with you
all ok here.. but in lockdown more or less
We've been so lucky here. Hard borders established right at the beginning. Little impact on our lives, where I am.
It's very tough around the world though.
hopefully with a new administration the vaccine roll out here will get a lot better
I hope so too. I also hope that the inauguration all goes peacefully and without a hitch.
that's not too likely unfortunately
It will probably be June before I get the vaccine. Heavy sigh ...
:(
I've got a cold (probably). Getting COVID test results in 2 days or so, but the Alberta rules seem to require that I stay at home until my symptoms are gone regardless.
i'm hoping to get mine soon ori.. my ex is working on it
Hope it's just a cold Gillie but makes sense to stay home.
we've been isolated for so long I'm beginning to wonder if I'll remember how to socialize
Not started to vaccinate here until Feb or March.
I hope so, ru. I am in the last tier, unfortunately.
i think you should be before the LAST tier no?
they should give millenials a test before giving them a vaccine
Nope. Not according to the current standards. I'm 64, just missed the cutoff. They are going to do younger people first, since those are the folks mostly spreading it around.
you can borrow my ID ori :D
Well, with masks on, we do look a little alike :D
HAAAAAA
Huh. Here it's people in nursing homes (residents and staff) and medical personnel first.
I think it's going to be the end of March or mid-April before they get around to healthy 80 year olds here. I hope they will do couples together -- that makes more sense than strict adherence to age. With distancing and wait times after the shot, that makes more sense to me.
Justly so, Gillie.
All key workers should get the vaccine asap, in my opinion.
I'm happy nurses and doctors have mostly been vaccinated
Stay safe everyone :) Nice chatting.
bye liz.. say hi to the whales
When they come back in May I will :)
See ya, Liz
I think everyone that has to work outside the home or go to school should be vaccinated first. I no the concern is for the elderly, but it is a lot easier for us to keep to ourselves.
* know
That's an interesting thought, nan.
But, here, I think the logic is that older people are much more vulnerable to the virus.
I kinda feel us older folks get priority first
We are more vulnerable ... says one who is 6 months short of the older folks cut-off.
I heard scotch wards off covid though :D
It just seems that the can't stay put within their households, even if they are working from home. We've seen our numbers quintuple in the last month -- Christmas, New Years, skating parties, ski hills - so i think the solution is for those of us who can mangage without all these covid spreading activities can wait a little longer.
Oh, I should get some :D
gee ru --- may I am immue then?
*Mean to say young people can't stay put.
Whenever my mom drank hard liquor, which was often, she assured me it was for medicinal purposes.
i think if your blood alcohol is high enough it can't take hold :D
but then you can't remember what you were exposed to though
I shall embark on a covid-avoidance strategy of alcohol intake.
we may be more vulnerable, ori, but we do have the luzury of running any necessary errands whenever we want. It is amazing how few people shop at our grocery store at 11:30 am on a Tuesday -- I can get in and out withing 30 minutes, Another advantage - I don't have such a huge order when shopping for two people. I also grew up in an era when we learned to amuse ourselves rather than depending on others to entertain us.
i never have problems amusing myself
me neither - I have a couple of never ending hobbies, an e-reader and a library membership.
I am fortunate enough to be able to work from home, nan. And I have my groceries delivered. I have my own amusements, but must say that I am getting a little bored. I see few people. I cherish the friends I see once in a while -- outside, of course.
yeah.. hanging around parking lots and such :D
Shhh, ru. You make it sound so nasty :D
I am watching much more TV/movies than I ever have before, though.
exactly -- I think it is much harder for our kids to stay at home (use that term loosely as my yougest is 49)
I see on the news that you will soon have parking lot and drive through vaccination sites -- that should help.
I'm getting mine at a pharmacy or doctor's office
Now if they could just roll out those vaccines a little faster----
truly nan.. for sure
One of the concerns here in California is rolling out the vaccine and then not having enough in reserve to deliver the second dose to people. What a cluster you know what.
I think our essential workers have received their first shots here, but not all of those l in assisted living and nursing homes.
Yes, well there's a debate about that since the first dose does offer some protection, so the question is whether to give it to as many people as possible, at the risk of not having enough for the second shots.
oh well -- as I said, I think our turn will come at the end of March. yes - that is happing here too, Gillie -- 5 weeks between shots instead of 28 days.
i better crawl into bed.. i'm fading a bit.. night all
Good night, ru.
Night ru -- on my way as well -- stay safe everyone
Good night.
night ori.. talk tomorrow
I'm Stage 3, it seems, and the online calculator indicates that I will probably get my vaccination sometime between early July and mid September, I think.
The trials of being young (relatively) and healthy!
It will probably be that timeline for me as well. I think I will be expected to go back to work in June, but I will protest that until I have my two doses.
this one is sure hard. I have 18 so far and im pretty much stuck, will come back
Reading the comments regarding dealing with covid, and self-isolating at home, and the order in which people are getting the vaccine. I am an "essential service" worker in the food industry, and have been out there in the "COVID soup" each and every day since it first reared its ugly head almost a year ago. I feel that after our medical personnel, first responders, the elderly, and those at risk due t preexisting conditions, it would be nice if those who prepare everyones food day in and day out could get the vaccine. Under the new Ontario government guidelines, our store is limited to 25% capacity at any given time, but this still means that upwards of 3000 customers come through our doors each and every day--none of which we can temp check or do a wellness check to. We also have no idea what region they are travelling from. each day myself and my fellow workers go in to work and roll the dice. People are starting to ask for their vacation time early so they can have stress leave, as the customers get more angry and disgruntled with the restrictions we must place upon them. We are tired...
At my age bracket, and taking into consideration any health issues I may have, My estimated time frame to receive the vaccine is sometime in July... :(
in my business, we employ approx. 50 people.
No one knows anyone who ever caught this thing
It's quite likely that many people haven't been tested because they are largely asymptomatic or just assume that they've just had a cold or some other illness. There is also some reluctance to tell people when you have had it, since they may be obliged to get tested and be otherwise inconvenienced.
Here there's been a decline in the number who are getting tested, but about 7% of those who do are positive, and our hospital and ICU capacity has been significantly stretched.
last word, can anyone help with the ri 7/44 please.
could be-not denying it, just how it is here. my long time market lady is still there every day. She's in her sixties and healthy
Compound word using the FI 4/7
Thanks Greyhound, fireworks.
Woo-Hoo!
I'm in the UK, in the over 75 age group, and am going for my vaccination later today. My husband knows of several people who have had the virus.
In North Texas, our population is more spread out. Might be a factor
I'm in the city, and I'm not actually aware of anyone that I know personally who's had it, but I also haven't had much social contact recently.
Just read the CDC report that flu deaths are down
98%. guess masks work
Well, that and social distancing and the rest of it.
Yep
Ive heard Vitamin D3 and Zinc are helpful in avoiding
In Alberta last year we apparently had about 8000 lab-confirmed cases of the flu, with 36 deaths, and this year we have yet to have a single lab-confirmed case of the flu.
anyone have any knowledge of this?
sorry can't stop hitting the return key!
I read that there is some evidence (not strong) that vitamin D may help with COVID. I don`t know about zinc.
A doctor here has zinc and Vitamin D in his recommendations for prevention. Dr. Louis P Coates.
Ive been taking both for a while - no problems. Knock on wood
Yes, I was taking them anyway. (pre-virus)
Gillie - Not one flu case?!
That`s what I thought I`d heard on the radio, but looking now, I see that there had been one case confirmed by the end of October.
It makes sense that flu cases would be down, social distancing and mask wearing are going to help stop any spread of flu.
And it seems that the flu is not as contagious as COVID.
are restaurants open there? Canada or Ireland
Northern Ireland only allows restaurants to operate a takeaway service, I think it's the same in the Republic of Ireland. No hairdressers etc, non-essential retail closed.
The restrictions depend on where you live in England but I think restaurants are closed except for takeaway as well.
Restaurants here have been closed here except for take-out since early December.
(In Alberta - it varies by province.)
Most are open for limited capacity here. I order delivery a lot
The rules in Alberta currently ban all indoor social gatherings, and outdoor social gatherings are limited to no more than 10 people. (Outdoor social gatherings had been banned too, but that just changed.)
They've started easing the restrictions a bit.
I think churches had still been allowed to open at 15% capacity, but many churches here are only doing services online anyway.
Haz, you are correct. Restaurants here in the Republic are closed, except for takeaway. Our numbers were encouragingly low in early December. Then our idiod government ingnored the public health advice, opened everything up & mow we are in a far worse situation than at the height of the first wave. It’s terribly disheartening, not to mention scary.
..... Using the iPad. Apologies for the errors...
It's certainly disheartening, Soodle, let's hope things improve quickly. I understand your vaccine programme is up and running as well.
Indeed Haz. All care homes - staff & residents have been jabbed. 1,800 doctors & nurses got theirs yesterday. Both my brother & sister got theirs. My btither reported spiking fevers last night & a general feeling of unwellness. My sister was fine. Curious!
...brother.... damn iPad.
It's a bit of a lottery to know how people will be affected by the vaccine, I think any unwellness will only persist for a couple of days.
I'll be 75 in June. Don't think I'll get the vaccine til then
That's a long time to wait, bichon. They're starting over 70s this week here, I think.
I simply cannot wait to get mine. I’d be off to the UK like a shot to see my grandson. I haven’t seen him in person for months.
I will be happy as well.
how is girlier not in the dictionary?
And if you remove the last letter - that word is accepted.
Kitchen duty for me. Happy babbling!
Bye Haz
well this is an odd one, finding the big words firsts
It got some interesting words.
I am not a person who travels a lot, so question...once you get a vaccine, you will be able to travel where you want to? Or will it still depend on the restrictions of the place you want to go? Or maybe we don't know yet.
well, I don't know the answer, but I heard Bill Gates on a podcast months ago saying if we found a vaccine you would probably have to travel with a certificate saying you got it.
I'm guessing each country will have their own policies
I read an article that said masks will still be required for a time ... those who have received the vaccine can possibly still be carriers ... still questions they don't have answer for...
well, I am stuck with 12 left. BBL
