Oh hi IG!

Hi, French! how's things?

we are anticipating the arrival of Elsa tomorrow

hurrican/ trop storm Ela

Elsa

it hit Florida last night

think it will get up to your area? Haven't been following it

yes the track shows it will run up the east coast, I'm in coastal Virginia close to NC border

wow! Hurricane party!

true dat

I used to live in Florida - We had Hurricane parties, if we did not evacuate. Cat 1 def a party

i know the feeling, spent 15 years living on Outer Banks of NC

the 2 NA 6/24s look like mis-spelled yummy Mexican food

oh I just realized you can plural the co5 aussie greeting

yes I have the na chips words

my fav diacritical mark is in the grid :)

I have no reply to that

you are not a fan of diacritics?????

didn't know it was a thing

it's a name for the little marks over/under certain letters

like a tilde?

haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

yes, and penalty box for you!

hey its just us, I think, so just give me probation

I have to leave for work now, so it's just you! No one will ever know. Bye IG

Yw, Dan - Hi, Une

7:24 am

We had a giant thunderstorm here last evening. More to come for the remainder of the week

7:26 am

that do- seems to be sadly under-used

I am not liking this grid. 56 left, seven 7s left and I'm just not seeing the words

fishing for clues, Matty :)

7:31 am

Same here, Matty......not seeing the 7s at all.....

bbl

7:35 am

oooo i found a ci7, my first 7 today

7:35 am

.... es7/36 from earlier

7:36 am

i also had found a co7, related to a pain drug

7:36 am

I think they are hard to see because the aren't 5's with a suffix.

7:36 am

le7 is!

7:37 am

Ah...I hadn't made it to the Ls yet.

7:38 am

found li7 now as well

7:39 am

Funny, that LE. We had it yesterday. I will be wearing the tiara again today.

7:40 am

i thought the tiara was for having your name in the grid

7:40 am

That is my last name.

7:41 am

And now I only have 1 seven to find.

7:41 am

ohhhhh

7:41 am

well i still have 3 sevens to find

7:43 am

we had the le7 yesterday? my memory is terrible

7:43 am

We had the le5

7:43 am

aha! got it

7:48 am

so bea, what are the other 7s you have?

7:48 am

not seeing the es7 ...

7:48 am

I found the li7, which was my last.

7:49 am

.. es + break the rules

7:49 am

yes i got those

7:49 am

have ci, co, es, le, li

7:51 am

2 co's, da,

7:51 am

That should give you all of them.

7:51 am

no, there's one other, but thank you, i got the da!

7:51 am

another co

7:52 am

3 co then?

7:52 am

no, just 2

7:52 am

ok, so since i had one, one more

7:53 am

Do you have de?

7:53 am

no :) thanks

7:53 am

got it!

7:54 am

watch my missing co7 be a super normal word, lol

7:54 am

Its not.

7:54 am

i'm still working on the es7 lol

7:54 am

It is a UK spelling

7:55 am

play unfair, shirl

7:55 am

i have the UK spelling with the pain drug

7:55 am

it is the other one that i have missed

7:56 am

No, this is the UK spelling of hokie's ailment.

7:56 am

hmm, i dunno if i knew hokie HAD an ailment

7:57 am

but i will try to think of ailments

7:57 am

She can't eat gluten.

7:57 am

OH

7:57 am

ok wow i guess i did not know that that was the UK spelling of that!

I have the ES if clues wanted

8:03 am

I'm glad that "delish" is not in the enable dictionary

Yeah, but there some strange DE words that pop up, Harry

8:04 am

26 L's???? Really???

8:04 am

8:04 am

dees

8:05 am

rob, why?

8:05 am

8:13 am

8:13 am

8:13 am

nm

8:14 am

hello....

8:14 am

hiya pen

8:15 am

hey, Harry....

8:15 am

'morning

8:15 am

hi welki...

8:15 am

hi welki

8:16 am

took me two days, but finally connected (and on hold) with the irs - fun times

8:16 am

I got four dots. welki only got 3. just saying.

8:16 am

Rob...why? Hurshy, ever the clever one. : D

8:16 am

oh no welki. be prepared for an hour or more on hold. they are the absolute worst.

8:17 am

bummer, welki....

8:17 am

i know, harry - this is a call back, the first time, it took more than just two days to connect

8:17 am

my sympathies :(

8:17 am

social security is a walk in the park, compared to the irs :D

8:17 am

Social security takes number two place for absolute worst. They keep you on hold for forty minutes and more.

8:18 am

I can ignore SS for another few years.

8:19 am

if you call the SS folks in maryland, i'd agree - i call my "local" office in montana and it's not that bad. but i had such a good rapport with a couple of the folks in md that i have direct numbers to call now

8:19 am

i already don't like this grid...too many vowels....

8:19 am

yes - getting a personal connection is ideal

8:20 am

but a C with all those vowels gets you several words :)

8:20 am

i know they are there, just haven't found them yet... ;o)

8:21 am

It was a fun grid.

8:21 am

for you, perhaps, LOL....

8:21 am

Off to work...

8:21 am

hi bea bye bea

8:22 am

I never think of these grids as "fun". Challenging, yes but not fun.

8:22 am

hi/bye bea

8:22 am

bye, Bea....

8:22 am

oh i think some grids are fun....not this one....

8:22 am

We may never find out why Bea was wearing the tiara yesterday

8:22 am

harry, you get the tiara today!

8:23 am

ok.

8:23 am

why is this?

8:24 am

ho4 is in the grid. I give the guys six packs instead.

8:24 am

because part of your "name" is in the grid - and saying so may or may not be a pb violation on my part

8:24 am

oh I get it. ty - I will wear it with pride.

8:25 am

very twinkly

8:25 am

I'm like rain man with sparkly stuff.

8:25 am

1:25 pm

1:25 pm

that's true for me....

1:26 pm

I doubt my youngest son has ever heard the word dustbin

1:26 pm

probably not....

1:29 pm

don't you think the word we use is just the north american term where as as 6 and dustbin are more common in europe?

1:30 pm

i think so....i see them in the British mysteries I read...

1:30 pm

growing up, we referred to the trash can.....we did not have a fireplace....

1:31 pm

I know my scottish cousin used dustbin

1:41 pm

Sorry, did that rubbish you the wrong way

1:42 pm

at least we aren't recycling jokes

1:44 pm

You mentioned Dustbin Hoffman. I prefer Debris Winger

1:45 pm

:D

1:48 pm

That reminds me of the excavation field worker I used to work with whose field notes included "removed debree" and that his equipment was "idol for the day"

1:49 pm

they're now writing for several web-site news pages. the editing is terrible.

1:51 pm

I can't believe the horrible spelling and grammar I see on the internet. What has become of spell check?

1:51 pm

down to 13 - 8 of which are 6's and 7's. Time to list

1:51 pm

Oh no, we are starting to look like Moolingwa and Carla

1:54 pm

when she was in grade one my oldest granddaughter solemnly told me that her teacher said it was ok if everything was spelled wrong. It didn't matter to anyone as long as she was understood. Unfortuneately that misconception seems to have become fact.

1:55 pm

had a conversation with my massage therapist today about spelling...some of that skill seems to be innate....some people will turn out to be better spellers than others even with the same schooling....

1:59 pm

i don't have DA 7....

2:16 pm

3:54 pm

... you're welcome

3:54 pm

... any more?

3:55 pm

... ah well ... England and Denmark going to extra time ... so I should probably pay attention ... luck to all who continue the struggle

3:59 pm

Hi all.

4:01 pm

The CA 6,21 just means small house in Spanish, and it's used commonly in the U.S, at least here in CA, for a little secondary house on your property. It has nothing to do with slums, nor is that word used in Latin America to refer to poverty.

that's how i understand it. not slums, nor SA

that's as twisty a word as i recall in a grid

4:41 pm

worm-shaped little house

4:44 pm

Words used commonly on the west coast are not always used commonly in other parts of the US or in Canada or the many other places people play from

4:51 pm

That's true of other parts of the U.S. too. I'm from the East Coast and no one here knows what a hoagie is.

4:51 pm

here = California

there are RV resorts that only allow Class A motorhomes and you can like buy a site there and build a little tiny house on it to park your motorhome next to and live there for a while. anyhoo, they are commonly called coach house, carriage house, or ca6/21.

4:53 pm

A hoagie is Philly-speak, we moved to Seattle from Philly when I was little. Hoagies became subs, soda became pop, paper bags were sacks, my clothes weren't kept in a bureau, but a dresser.

funny, sub is NY/NJ for hoagie

we mostly say subs, but hoagie is not foreign by any means

4:56 pm

Is There a Difference Between Hoagies, Heroes, Subs, and Grinders? https://www.thekitchn.com/hoagies-hero\nes-subs-and-grinders-whats-the-deal-wi\nth-these-sandwich-names-222944

i think many if not most of the players here know the US only through their news outlets. Which is only what generates ratings.

how did that link not break the chat? did dr. god fix something?

ooh wait- heros...i never ate then when i was a kid in NJ so maybe that was the word, but i think it was subs

4:57 pm

Oh, zoom call in 3 min. bbl

rehero, i've sondered if it didn't come from the greek gyro. grinfers are new england, and oven grinders are toasted

yeah, I think heroes = gyros, which a lot of people mispronounce

i rarely eat lunch meat. i have some on hand now for 100 degree days, but today had cereal instead. with fruit. quick and easy

did you finish, carla?

6:22 pm

no, hero sandwich is not the same as a gyro. grinders, subs, torpedoes, italian, and hero are all the same sandwich.

6:24 pm

all of the same. the sandwiches may be served hot or cold. The names are typically regional. They have nothing to do with the Greek gyro Which is completely different. It is a very specific meat or combination of meats with a cucumber sauce and onion in a pita.

6:25 pm

I agree. I don't seem much relationship between a gyro and a hero, other than their similar pronunciation.

6:43 pm

if you go into an arby's her and ask for a gyro you confuse them. then when you say the meal number they say oh! you mean a Jy-roh.

7:05 pm

All parts of our country have different jargon. A sub/hoagie is a grinder in Connecticut. Soda/pop is tonic in Boston.
