it is a disaster for the farmers and orchardists. Crops are drying up, first cherry crop is lost, some of the apple varieties are sun burned and the water levels in the creeks and lake are at an all time low.

Yikes. That's terrible nan.

Should I be seeing that midde R? I presume it's an RH?

GM all! Phantom: hamster

Would someone please tell me the stats for the middle R? Please and thank you!

yes matty, it's rh5,16

Thank you! And good morning

sometime vowel is the middle letter, if that helps

Found it, thanks!

yay! How is little Miss Tilly?

Adorable. Just starting to tentatively walk!

She'll be 15 months in just over a week

oh wow

I had an Aunt Tilly!

Yeah, time totally flies.

It's funny how names come and go in and out of fashion! She's a Matilda, technically (called Matilda, Tilda, Tilly and various variations)

yes, my Aunt was a Matilda too. Growing up, I always thought "Tilly" was the cutest name.

I like it - but I'm biased

of course!

It's funny - I wasn't impressed with the name when Sarah told me when she was born and yet it grew on me VERY quickly!

I know another Matilda right now, and we call her "Matty."

Hah! My 'real' name is, of course, not Matty. It's Kate ;)

Oh I wondered! The Matty I know is at my workplace.

My real name is Laurie :)

NOt Frenchy, haha

Matty Groves is a folk song - it's about adultery and murder so....

Matty is in the grid - just as well it's not a word ;)

Oh I didn't know about the song. Tell me, do you know the village called Gerrard's Cross, in Bucks County? I grew up there.

I do (I've not been but I know where it is). I did not realise you grew up in the UK!

Yes my father was in the USNavy. We lived in England and traveled all over Europe, for about 4 years in the 1960s. It was wonderful! I went to school at RAF High Wycombe.

I do know High Wycombe. My daughter went to Birmingham University so when we'd drive up the M40, High Wycombe was sort of halfway there (ish) - where the Red Kites were released (they've spread - we have quite a lot of them here much further south near Windsor)

I stay in touch with one of my friends from High Wycombe, I went to visit her in Florida last year. We were in 6th grade together. So many fun memories! We went to Camp Mohawk, have you heard of it.

No. I suspect there are tons of summer camps called that in the US though!

I married and Englishman (since divorced and traded up to a better model...or at least a different model of Englishman) so my daughter went to British schools, let a British life etc etc etc

She has a British (slightly tinged with Australian now) accent

No, I meant we went to Camp Mohawk when we were in England. I'm not sure where it is exactly, but most US military kids were sent there in the summers.

yeah, I don't know much about the military stuff - I never hung with ex-pats as I married the Englishman so have led a fairly English life. Though I still don't really care about the results of tonight's football (soccer)!

Is that World Cup?

Euros 2020 (postponed from last year)

Oh OK! Glad they are playing again!

England are in the final - the first final of a major international tournament since 1966

exciting!

it's about time haha!

I predict Italy will win 3-1!

5:06 am

traitor Matty.

5:06 am

I think 2-1 to england.

I don't WANT Italy to win, you understand, I just predict they will - England are excellent at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory ;)

5:07 am

They have played exceptionally well this tournament, looking forward to the game tonight.

Fingers crossed!

There will be a few sore heads tomorrow, I reckon, whatever happens

5:09 am

hopefully through celebrating and not drowning sorrows

Indeed!

Cute icon, frog!

5:11 am

Thank you, my home town.

My country of birth and my heritage would say that soccer (football) should be entertaining to me, but sadly I could never get into it. I tried, I really did. I forget the teams, but I once sat down and watched the first place team play the team that was in last place. The ball went back and forth for ninety minutes, and at the end of it all the score was tied 1-1. The most entertaining thing to me about European soccer is the rabid fans in the stand who destroy each other and everything around them during that 90 minutes.

8:12 am

that is my feeling about soccer as well. highlights reel are so much more efficient.

8:12 am

i could never get into soccer either

8:12 am

hi cross

8:12 am

Howdy MLF :)

8:12 am

hi harry

8:12 am

good morning

8:12 am

i am watching the NASCAR race this afternon

8:12 am

Howdy, harry.

8:12 am

oh my lord.

8:13 am

nascar, imo, even more stultifying than soccer

8:14 am

lol i hear ya harry, some of the races are so boring so sometimes i change the channel to something else for a short period of time

8:15 am

phew...after I typed that I realized it may have been offensive. some folks are pretty loyal nascar fans.

8:16 am

It's okay Harry. You being bored by something shouldn't offend someone. We don't all like everything.

8:16 am

rh clue pls?

8:16 am

i am not offended

8:16 am

now a good GOLF game, that's another story! heehee

8:17 am

See, golf is a sleeping pill for me : D

8:17 am

i dont watch golf that much but my parents play

8:17 am

me too - I'm joking :)

8:17 am

The most bring thing to me would be British dart competitions--they always go something like this: "20....20!!!, and while we wait for the final throw, I can tell you that Reginald Smythe hails from Puddleby-on-the-Wye, and collects antique bar taps and petrified sheep droppings..."

8:17 am

lol true for a lot of people molly

8:17 am

boring*

8:18 am

no fights breaking out at darts games ?

8:18 am

*arrows*

8:18 am

cross do you know what cornhole is?

8:18 am

No fights--too drunk, can hardly see to aim.

8:19 am

Nope, do enlighten, MLF

8:19 am

bean bag toss

8:19 am

ll, I had to ask, because "cornhole" has a decidedly different meaning here. :)

8:20 am

yes - the first time our principal suggested we play "cornhole" at a continuing ed day, I was quite put off

8:20 am

i have been seeing it on tv the past two yrs hadnt sen it at all before

8:21 am

i would rather watch curling even though i dont quite understand it

8:36 am

8:46 am

lone e was the my first word

8:49 am

8:54 am

ah - just found the ta 7 - my last 7

8:54 am

This is odd: Babble is telling me that spam does not exist in the puzzle.

8:55 am

i only have se 7

8:55 am

8:55 am

i have had that issue with different words today

8:56 am

I woke up early to work on a talk...but I'm here instead. But just 3 left, so I will get to that talk after I find those.

8:57 am

Hi FT

8:57 am

good morning french

8:58 am

6 left here: M D T SSS

I already walked on the beach this AM, it was gorgeous. I found about 20 pieces of sea glass.

8:59 am

that is so awesome! do you use it to make anything?

8:59 am

Nice! Which beach are you near?

8:59 am

lucky you, FT - you must have been the first on e out

I do a few crafty things, like little Xmas ornaments. But mostly I put it in glass jars or antique bottles and give as gifts.

I am near a few different beaches: Fort Monroe, Buckroe, Oceanview, Va Beach.

cybernan, i was not the first one :)

9:01 am

fw. My last word was de8. Interesting, I did not know that. Will probably never need to know that...

9:01 am

french o that is so cool. i know someone in florida who makes sea glass jewelry

9:01 am

Other side of the country! I'm used to Pacific coast beaches.

yes MLF, those artisans are a dime a dozen.

9:02 am

OK gotta run, BBL

I mean, I've known people that do that when they get a burger

9:15 am

Why not? I am sure one can "depatty" a hamburger, no?

bye FT

9:16 am

ty ft

9:16 am

whats the point? no patty...no burger

well, they just eat them separately, or don't eat the bun

9:17 am

Seriously, who eats the bun but not the burger

is it just me or is this a tough little stinker

9:18 am

but that would be to debun

well, you'd still have to depatty to eat the burger. my neighbor when I was a kid used to do it all the time.

9:18 am

*!*~*!* hagd everyone

bye nan

I guess so, phae.

9:20 am

The great conundrum: does one depatty the bun or de-bun the patty

10:08 am

bea, we didn't plant anything in our big deck planters this year but got some volunteers. One tomato, which I knew, but I had to ask on reddit what the other 2 were - sorghum and sunflower.

10:09 am

I guess someone's birdseed made its way here

10:09 am

we also have 3 tomato plants under the deck planter down by the pool 😁

10:09 am

That happens. I didn't plant any petunias, and they were all over my yard this spring.

10:10 am

I had five volunteer tomatoes come up in the new blueberry bed we put in this spring.

10:10 am

I'm going to pull out the sorghum but will leave the sunflower and see what happens. of course I will leave all the tomatoes. one already has a bloom.
