could never figure out why we had it in the first place
DST causes extra deaths and costs economies lots of money, so, it's kind of a no brainer. either have it year round or don't have it at all. the switching just causes havoc.
Kids and darkness in the morning when they go to school.
it's already dark in the morning and by suppertime here - a little more daylight would go a long way here by the time the winter doldrums hit
it's lighter in the morning WITHOUT DST, so having DST does not help kids and school
of course schools should also start later, esp high school, but we don't do that sensibly either.
I say cut the difference and adjust the time by 30 minutes.
ah, but if school started later the kids would be coming home in the dark

Yeah, I did. But their stats are all skewed because sleep deprivation causes fatal traffic accidents all the time, not just after daylight savings time.

Sleep Affective Disorder happens whether we have daylight savings time or not. The time naturally changes and we have more darkness in winter.
I don't think SAD causes people to commit suicide, I it may be a contributing factor to depression, but it is the mental illness that is the cause.

Yep! A little worried about Simba (the long, rangy ginger fluffy Ginger Ninja) at present. He's started to come to me for more on the lap evening cuddles in the past couple of weeks and, stroking him, I realised that underneath all that fur he's a bag of bones and it feels like his bones might break through his flesh at any moment. As far I can tell, he doesn't have any internal parasites, but what I did notice recently is that the normal brand of sachets of wet cat food we can get now (it's been a bit short in supply in shops for a couple of months now) even though it's from Northern Ireland, has a different feeding recommendation on it. The packs we get now must have less potash filler in them or something, because rather than 3 sachets per day it says 4 on the foreign market ones. I hope I haven't been inadvertently starving my largest cat for the past couple of months! I've started giving both the Ginger Ninja's an extra half sachet of food with each meal and more dry food. Daisy Cat, their sister doesn't ne4.5 it, since she's less active and very well padded. Just have to make sure she doen't poke her nose into her brothers' food bowls.
