hello all
Hello!!
I am far too amused that we have both sa5,10 and si6,18 today.
Hee hee!
*cranks up the Rolling Stones Sympathy for the Devil for all the si6s and sa5s
*eating pumpkin pie for breakfast*
Pie for breakfast is top shelf.
Me, well as Billy Joel said, I'd rather laugh with the si6 than cry with the sa5s, cause si6 have much more fun
I'm not a pumpkin pie kind of person
I make a mean two layer pumpkin cheesecake pie that even "not a pumpkin pie kind of people" like
I would eat that :)
my problem with pumpkin pie is generally the texture of the filling
You know you've reached senescence when you you fall asleep after Thanksgiving dinner and there's a picture of it on Facebook
Haha, who did that to you?
My daughter
Good for her.
Good morning, friends.
'morning, babblers
Hi welki. Cold up there?
scrab, did you get the snow you were hoping for? (we woke up to a couple of inches here)
no, not that cold, about 28F
We got just 2-3 inches and not the 5-9 predicted, so no need for snowshoes yet.
Only a Canadian refers to 28 as "not that cold"
one of our neighbors has organized a caroling hayride this evening - we'd like to go, but there are just so many here that are anti-vax that we're hesitant, even though it's outdoors. i hate what this stupid virus has done to our lives.
I would skip it, welki, because those folks will get into your breathing space.
Aw, Stephen Sondheim died. What a legacy he left,
yeah, but i wonder sometimes if we're the only people here (in this community) who've altered our lifestyles - i see photos of neighbors on cruises, at paint nights, house parties, and think i've just become too affected by covid.
But those people will get sick and maybe die. Their ignorance and bliss won't work much longer.
we have to make an overnight trip to montana next week, a state that has no masking requirements. should be good for our anxiety levels :)
have you had your booster, welki?
Just follow your protocol, welki. You will be fine.
the thing is, scrabbs, is that many of them have already had covid and think it's no big deal - and most of them are older folks
My existential anxiety is so high. We are seeing the Halloween surge and next we will see what Thanksgiving gatherings do.
We are planning a river cruise in Europe next spring. Doesn't sound like we'll be able to go.
no, mael - we're not eligible yet. hopefully in december
They can easily be re-infected and may not be so lucky the next time.
I just ordered new, better-rated, KN95 masks from Armbrust.
Gomer is not a word. Pfooey.
you're right, bea - just keep on doing what we've been doing.
Yes, stay smart.
sorry to monopolize chat with covid talk - i know we're all tired of it
Haha, it dominates my life.
i'm sure it does - all those germy kids (and parents)
A co-worker, triple-vaxed is infected.
I'm not sure I will ever not think about it and I will probably wear a mask the rest of my life.
I agree, Bea.
I read there is a new variant in S. Africa.
It's everywhere by now.
canada has recently stopped allowing visitors from s. africa because of it
It's too late. By the time a variant is recognized to be of concern it has already been traveling the globe. It's scary.
Now, I need to get ready for work--some extra hours this morning to relieve the pressure in the office.
You can tell how it has changed the lives of our children. Our 8yo old grandson is staying. He made the statement that he has had the Covid vaccine and his flu vaccine. It used to be just a flue shot.
He also went out with Grandpa to walk the dog. "Should I wear a mask?"
My nephews (9, 6) got their first CoV doses on Nov 16. They were eager to be immunized.
He has been taught well, Bea.
I must go. Be well, everyone.
bye, scrabs
your grandchildren are with you until tomorrow, bea?
Yes.
hello...clue for the re8/50 please
give 'em a big squeeze for me and tell them they're lucky to be able to get one :)
I squeeze them all the time. They hate it. LOL!
aw, poor babies. comes with the territory :D
Our living room looks like a CIA Ops room.
okay - was waiting to hear how, maybe something about jason bourne being in the house, but nothing came. do the boys have a command center set up?
Almost. There are gaming components all over. The large screen tv is too old for the current games of my 14 yr old. So he found an unused monitor in grandpa's stuff and set it up.
He has built his own computer at home.
resourceful young man! he'd be amused to watch that old movie,
war games (with matthew broderick)
I believe he will be attending a math and science magnet high school next year.
They are both very intelligent. 8 yo is currently reading Harry Potter.
that's an honor, bea - it'll be good for him to be around like-minded young people
good morning everyone :)
Good Morning Cybernan
rate
gert
oops .. my apologies
gert is kind of creative though
i had a great-great-aunt named Gert
Interesting that the chat this morning is all about covid. Feel free to borrow the blurb in my profile and pass it on to the nonbelievers
phantom: transient
is this a hard grid? it seems hard to me so far
got to 100 last night, hurshy, but slow going this morning
i only got one of the top W words and it's not even normal
ust have one from there too
second row seems better
so far i have the first four columns done
that's impressive!
not even going to try -- will be listing soon. I have lost patience with all the weird words we've been getting
not too many babblets in this one though
bottom row grey!
it is the top row that is hard, that is all
i have 19 to go and 14 of those are top row
what does the 9 start with?
RE 9
ok ty will look
Starts from the top R
yeah, i know that cause i have all the bottom R already :D
does it go with an 8?
Yes. The 9 is a plural.
ok
RE 8/50 & RE 9 /66
and what's the other 8 besides that and ma8?
TE 8/40
ok thanks
That one is a regular in grids gone by.
ok
aha yes
As Axed!
Ws Whacked!
Congrats for when you finish! Toodle pip.
toodle pip!
I've returned.
h'lo bea, how's things
Busy, I guees. Still over 100 words left. Unusual for me.

I think I've forgotten more than I know -- bbl
name that proper noun! Pacific Island or Girl Scout Cookie
Samoa
Samoa?
ding ding ding!
My fave!!
can I have a nudge for the last ca7? I have the picture machines...
well does it not go with a 6? currently looking for both of those
It does go with the 6
hmm, ok, got the 6
If it does, I haven't been able to monkey it
Start like the pic machine and end with Mona L***

stick in an extra vowel near the end for the 7
ty hurshy

ty freep
ur 7 please?
yw. not finding this an easy grid!
*first one
me neither
do you have the second ur7?
who said it was easy, ruru?
ruru did say it wasn't all that difficult
1st ur7 I have has an extra UK english vowel
Oh, I don't know if anyone has. I just came back to it. Ruru is allowed to be wrong from time to time :-)
I have the 2nd ur 7 - looking for the first one
and I just started but looked at the U, so thanks for making me find 2 7s
yeah. as homie says, the ur big words are linked. The first 7 is like the 6 of that 6/7 but with an extra vowel
clue for the first ur 7 please?
hokie! Sorry. Autocorrect
ty carla
been struggling with my last 4 with no results, so asking for clues now

hagd everyone :)
you too, nan. well done.

if you're an aboriginal person it's normal

found one 1 from there. I am neither an aboriginal person nor an original person.
*one 4
cross a female with a sun god and plural
gracias
definitely new to me
de nada
well you can't shake a stick at it hokie
well, 58 left after first pass, but I did get HOET. maybe I should call it ALHOET. at least half on every tile.
I prefer ATWOET
ALHOET sounds like a radical Islamic word group
ALHOET sounds like the noise guys make when they hock a loogie
Hey Babblers. Europe seems to have gone into meltdown because of this Omicron covid variant. Countries are closing their borders left right & center. It’s very hard to know if the fears are justified or if there’s a bit of scare-mongering going on.
I was supposed to go to the UK next Thursday - all up in the air (!!!) right now. Plus, my UK based family were supposed to be home for Christmas. It’s looking as if this could be threatened. Damn you Covid.
With those letters in the lower left corner, I'm wondering if there are any weirdly-spelled cat noises for answers?
So sorry, Soodle - Covid has certainly screwed up life as we know it.
treen
oops
mi5/20
and plural, too, haha! :D
thanks, Molly
Got it. (the pl was for the word I accidentally typed in.)
i thought UK was only banning travel from the countries of concern?
rbud - I take it Matt told you I was alive :D
Yes, he did, and I was glad to hear it, haha!
I was taking a FB break
And then I got sort of distressed when Tom passed away, causing me to be short TWO good FB friends.
Oh, I don't blame you. I figured I ran you off by insisting you play Lexulous even though that last game stunk. ;)
hello, ori
Torgone will be a huge loss to many Babblers.
Owl - even though I’m doubly vacc’ed & boostered I’ll need a PCR test within 48 hours of landing in the UK & must self isolate until the test comes back negative. I repeat. Damn you, Covid.
Did tor pass away from COVID?
wait- what happened???
Hi TO
I believe that is how rumors begin.
We don't know the cause of his death harp
oops, sorry if I'm contributing to a rumor
ok thanks origami
can someone please tell me what happened?
A bunch of eclipse chasers are, at this moment, in Tierra del Fuego trying to figure out what to do. There is an eclipse visible only in Antarctica on Dec 4 and at least one cruise has been canceled.
TO, Tor's kids announced on Facebook that Tor had passed. No cause of death was given.
Torgone (Tom Judkins) passed away last... Monday (23rd). His daughter posted it in FB, but no details.
Thanks Molly and Rode.
Rose
thank you. he was so witty and smart
i have heard so much bad news this week. but there have been good things as well.
He was. And a very warm and kind man.
Just a gentle reminder. It is really not a good idea to post people's real names here, even if they have passed. This site is unsafe.
And there is the missing MLFan.
yes, not wise. i have seen real names posted as threats. you never know.
There must be some bad news vibe going on. The bad news hits keep happening here too. But I am trying to focus on the positive.
oh no, hoping not too much bad news here. not around much.
I was talking about my personal "here" not Babble "here"
ah, in any case the sentiment holds
Thanks. It is deal-able stuff. Just pain in the ass plumbing issues.
the worst with holidays.
Can someone clue in7.28, pleasea/
In + sn5
I just read the chat and was so sad to hear of Torgone's passing. May he rest in peace.
Thanks, Une. Looking in the wrong direction as usual.
You're welcome :-)
I was wondering if the re8 is French?
Don't have it yet.....
CA 7/36?
Do you have the ca6.24?
i need the second one
but yes
The 2nd one ends with the last three of the smiling Mona
Add an extra vowel towards the end for the ca7.24

Re8 antique lounger
And yes, it's French
I thought so. Probably named after Juliette re8
Indeed!

How do you people know about this obscure stuff?
ty Une and hurshy and lickety and all cluers - firewords
phantom = generate
eieios, that kid has been in your profile since you started. How old is he/she now?
Congrats Dan!
First re7/32 please?
to turn a phrase again re7
or may a new penny again
make a new penny that is
or pennies from heaven again. or another one, or more, for your thoughts. or, or put new ones in your loafers. more to buy penny candy with.
and on and on.
thanks, une for the french lounger - a new lounge chair word for me.
that makes good cents to me mab
une left before we'd spare her no quarter
not that my cluing is worth a plugged nickel or anything
And yet you still clue, dime after dime
I knew you'd throw your two bits in molly
Some of your clues are in mint condition
in une's case however I should have just said ..may I be franc
The Canadians will think this is loonie
all this punning is going to peseta someone off
it will probably send them lwei, lwei, lwei all the way home
I'm guinea guess it might not
maybe someone will buck a trend?
Euro probably right
unless zooz shows up and is pound foolish
that's a schilling thought isn't it?
It makes good pence
nothing could be farthing from the truth though
Any clues for the 9 or 8s? Ty.
time to take a walk with the doggy bye for now
GE 6/24 last one
I don't have any GE6 or any 8s or 9s. glad I could help. 😜
2 x ge6 - add what you pay on your flat for one, add a sun god to DNA for the other
ma8/50 to chew
te8/40 even more little
<----typed masticate like that's even possible and 8 letters
sorry I was confused - the ma8 definition is to soak
I got it confused with masticate :-)
haha
sadly I don't know off the top of my head an ma word to soak
ends with the same 3 letters, if that helps
and if you have ac7 you just put an m on it
I do not, but will try
where's pen? hokies just beat wahoos. the only win that matters every year. 😂
snoopy liked being the Red Baron, WWI Flying ___ + what is your hourly _____ for your services?
Hokies and Wahoos. Sounds like creatures in Willy Wonka.
Hokies Wahoos and Hoyas - we really know how to go weird in the mid-Atlantic
hello all....
Geez, Pen is like a genie. Carla calls and there she is.
carla called me?
must be holy ESP... ;o)
That would be 0-:o)
0- being the halo
yup...
What did you do for Thanksgiving, Pen?
i went to my niece's for Thanksgiving dinner....Friday I went to a friend's mother's house (on my way home). We went to see the Botanical Gardens Aglow and I stayed overnight with them....Came home today...
Sounds like fun.
it was nice to see my great nephews, niece, sister-in-law, niece's husband, nephew and brother...
Oh, I used a PB word. I will go in there and heat up leftover pie.
and i hadn't had turkey for a couple of years...nephew is a chef, so it was great...
i could put a word in chat if there's pie.... ;oP
We got pies from a farm market that are sinfully good. Fresh fruit in pies makes all the difference.
sure does....
And she uses Crisco in her crust. I generally prefer butter but the crust is awesome. I am going to have to try her recipe.
And when I say fresh, I mean freshly picked. Not what masquerades as fresh in the supermarket.
i hear you....my mother used Crisco, i think...
My grandmother once went into the kitchen of a place (in Mexico, I think) that made what my grandfather considered to be the best biscuits he'd ever had, and found out that not only did the cook not measure anything, she used whatever drippings she had for the fat.
it would be fun to taste those biscuits...
Yeah, but this was a long time ago, I think
for sure...
i am done....had to look up the last few....new ones for me...
heading out...goodnight all....
NE 6?
ne + anagram for how you'd address a king
Thx!
yw
Re 6/24? Thanks.....
I mean re7!
