We have been out of lockdown for a number of weeks now but still to wear masks inside in most places, also must prove vac before entry to everywhere except supermarkets and chemists. Our vax rates are over 90% now but we too have persistent anti-vaxers

good morning everyone :) I see the chat is back to covid. I've posted an article that reflects my thoughts in my profile - you can copy and paste if you wish to borrow it for someone. There was a day when most people respected knowledge and authority. I think this began to deteriorate with the "me first" generatio n. Now we have their children and some of their grandchildren in the majority and look where it is leading us. I hope we swing around to full circle soon.

I don't understand people who won't vaccinate, but I also don't understand people who because they are vaccinated think they can now go about life as usual with large gtherings, no masks, no restrictions. Don't they know that they can catch, carry and spread the disease even though vaccinated?

I have a friend who refuses to be vaccinated or wear a mask as she is 'healthy' and 'what will be will be'. I have no doubt there are many with the same views. My husband believes that such people should not be treated in hospital.

I agree with your husband jaxx. We have people dying from heart disease, cancer and other illnesses because hospitals are overflowing with covid patients - most of whom are unvaccinated - and other treatments are postponed.

We still have to recognize the seriousness of it all though, Ru. How much longer are we going to sit back and say that it will eventually peter out -- we've done all we could. We will have done all we could when everyone is getting vaccinations world wide. I think about the only thing we can do as far as the non vaxxers are concerned is to shun them.
Every time I see anything about Omnicron I cringe. Things were just starting to get closer to "normal". If this variant shuts everything down again it will be very bad for everyone's mental health.

Maybe instead of setting aside early hours (before the stock is out) at grocery stores for seniors to shop, They should set aside late hours (when stock is mostly gone) for the unvaccinated.
Perhaps we should just line them up and shoot them. That would solve several problems. Or we could have them wear a symbol, maybe a large UV - and cry "unvaccinated" as they walk down the street. Or we could just not let them go to the store and starve to death.
or make them go back to school and take science classes

I really am dreading another Christmas with no family around.
I have a friend who's a conservative republican who got his vax as soon as it was available for him.
Shortly before, he and his daughter had COVID. He said that his case was considered pretty mild, but he was never more miserable in his life.
I don't think all conservatives are anti-vaxxers, nor are all anti-vaxxers conservative - however, in the US, it seems, anti-vaxxers are more likely to be conservative (and conservatives are more likely to be anti-vaxxers). But the link isn't total.

My brother in law, who is vac ( and conservative Republican in a liberal state) got covid from his boss. He was sick (we're seniors) but not nearly as bad as it could have been WITHOUT vac

Some places around me require it; it's pretty much up to each individual business. Usually I just show them the actual web site / electronic version so they know it's not faked.
There is a web site you can go where you can look at your own vaccination record, and it has a button that you tap to add it to your iPhone / Google wallet.

INteresting - we need to register with the provincial health authority after having our vaccinations. Once our vaccinations have been recorded by our local health units, we receive an e-mail link to a website where we can download our personal QR code for printing or saving to our cell phones.

All restaurants, bars and entertainment venues have been issued QR scanners for verification but it is up to the venues to ensure that the check is done. Mind you, the fines for non-compliance are pretty stiff and repeat offenders are closed down.

You should be able to get that number from the hospital. I got mine at a Jewel/Osco [grocery store chain in the Chicago area] and I called them to get mine.
