Good morning.

Hi, Scrabbler

6:07 am

I knew you had to be here.

6:08 am

I am on call the next 2 days/night. Boo. Hiss.

I am predictable - hope all stays quiet for you

6:10 am

It won't. Omicron is thriving and people are sharing it well.

Yeeesh - then folks will be glad you are there

6:12 am

No. Parents aren't worried that their kids have COVID. "It's just a cold. I know it's not COVID." And then the test is positive.

6:20 am

I need to go. Enjoy your day, IG.

Ok, good luck!

6:42 am

Clue for da7 please

A little French prince

7:32 am

*makes another pot of coffee*

7:33 am

da7 sounds like a misspelled Flipper

7:33 am

thanks matty

7:35 am

Une, I hope you had fun celebrating your birthday

7:41 am

Tx for da7!

7:46 am

Molly, is this a short week for you?

7:53 am

Done, lots of strange words

7:54 am

Congrats!

7:55 am

Yes Bea, I worked Tuesday, yesterday and will a half-day today. If you can call it work. This is the deadest week in business.

7:56 am

Do you have big NYE plans?

8:19 am

No, we usually have a pretty quiet New Year's Eve. A little hooping and hollering at midnight, that's all.

8:20 am

My grandkids stay up to midnight, we're asleep by 10 pm

8:21 am

I take a nap and then get up around 11 to see in the New Year with my son.

8:22 am

I'm asleep by ten as well. Wake up to the gunfire.

8:26 am

nothing like the smell of napalm to wake you up in the morning (Marlon Brando)

8:37 am

Several botanicals today.

8:39 am

I only have one pair so far!

8:40 am

Oh man, you two and your out there plant words. Can't wait.

8:42 am

the one I have is definitely not out there :)

I have a generic one

8:51 am

I found another relating to my favorite plant.

8:52 am

Well, one of my favorite plants. There are so many.

lol

bea, I don't know if you do reddit, but I subscribe to a plant identification subreddit. those people can id something someone's posted in like 5 min or less with the scientific name. it's amazing to me.

8:59 am

I'll have to look into it? I am on a FB group where they identify insects. That's pretty cool.

yeah, I also follow a snake one. joined the snake one and the plant one to get things ID'd.

9:07 am

Carla, do you do tiktok?

no

though a lot of tiktoks creep over to instagram and reddit

9:16 am

Spoiler alert - clue blurt coming.

9:16 am

I love the word ga6.42.

hmm

just on 2nd row

9:19 am

I'm leaving 30 for this afternoon. Toodles.

bye, have a good one! rainy here today.

9:22 am

hi7 in my day was low slung jeans now a fashionable young man usually with a bushy beard and tight pants :)

9:22 am

i hate big bushy beards. neat and trim is the way.

ha, thanks

I also hate big bushy beards

9:23 am

it didn't all go down so i had to refl5 the toilet - should be a word

that makes more sense than the re5 I found

9:24 am

so odd nice looking men with ugly beards and nowadays if their hair is thinning the shave it off altogether - weird

9:27 am

i recently tried a beard but i couldn't manage it.. so i now have a goatee

oh, ursh - you get the tiara today

I really don't mind a nice, neatly trimmed beard. but the bushy ones, nope.

9:28 am

good morning all

phantom splint - for when ghosts break a leg 🤣

hey nan

9:29 am

you can have reflect, deflect, inflect, but not flect

english is weird

9:31 am

that is the chief lesson that we pull from this game

9:33 am

just went through the chat -- took me a while to connect flipper with the heir to the french throne, but ty molly

oh, I found the g word bea likes

9:35 am

did molly clue that on porpoise?

9:35 am

yes a tough one during a pandemic

9:36 am

phantom: sultan

oh, name that trivia game website!

9:38 am

Sporcle

✅✅✅

was thinking hurshy might get it. maybe molly is a bot - she always has the answers.

9:39 am

We don't all know French terminology. Flipper was for the non-Francophones

9:40 am

Molly has done a lot of work on the internet, so is familiar with relatively popular sites

😁

9:41 am

now that i see the answer i think i may have heard of that site long ago but i definitely would not have known it

I don't know any french terminology but I also don't know which word you're talking about because I didn't read the chat.

9:42 am

the da7 :) if you've seen movies like man in the iron mask or anything that has french royalty you could know it

well hurshy I was going to do an easy HP one but it's an actual word

9:42 am

Here we go, airlines are starting to cancel flights due to the COVID surge

they started that a few days ago

9:43 am

Pardon me for not being current on the news

of course 😜

9:44 am

anyone want to tell me where I can find 3 more h's?

9:44 am

right R, i have ra4/6, anyone know what the other one is?

I still need 3 as well

9:44 am

There is a Used H Lot just up the street

nope to the other R

9:45 am

argh, i have to go, if someone clues it and i don't say thanks, i'm sorry

9:46 am

t's ra6/24 - a snail's foot

there's a word for that?

9:46 am

snails have feet?

9:47 am

Or tongue, if you prefer. What they scrape along with.

9:47 am

monkeyed it - ty vic

9:49 am

Wow, that is an obscure word if I ever saw one

not me, but I'll keep trying. first pass finished. 55 left. only 1 U found so no HOET.

9:53 am

type in snail body parts....beginning with RA

your google must be better - I typed exactly that and nothing. so I used bestwordlist and got it. I swear I tried that.

9:58 am

I need to start making a list of all of this unusual words for future puzzles. Maybe another resolution ?

there's already one made, it's called enable 😜

9:58 am

Having that list is one of the sure signs you play too much Babble

9:59 am

:)

10:01 am

If you want to freak someone out, play a word like ra6 in a Scrabble game and then casually say "yeah, it's part of a snail's mouth". They will look at you in a funny way and start backing out of the room.

10:02 am

um.. i don't want to be weird here but that was my first word

10:03 am

too bad, you are weird

10:03 am

(backs out of the room, looking at RU weirdly )

10:03 am

11:50 am

11:50 am

surprised that that name is taking up space in my brain....

11:50 am

since she said hers counts

11:51 am

wasn't here for carla's...

11:52 am

she didn't say anything about it other than it being an easy HP proper noun, but it counts

11:54 am

The Dursleys. Mean Dudley.

11:55 am

I am still thinking of the up6...I need more info

11:58 am

12:00 pm

The pandemic has broken me and my brain.

12:01 pm

aw, hang in there...

12:01 pm

Nonstop anxiety, ordering tests, checking results, etc

12:02 pm

it's awful....my gynecologist told me that he sees three or four women a day who have NOT been vaccinated...

12:02 pm

The next 6-8 weeks will be very bad in the US.

12:03 pm

yes....i am back to wearing a mask when i play indoor tennis....

12:03 pm

This is a rural area where many people don't believe in COVID at all.

12:04 pm

yes, rural areas are a problem here, too....but 80% of the eligible people in my county have been vaccinated...i am coastal....more older retired people, I think...

12:04 pm

I have to go to the sick area now on the first floor. SOme parents freak out when we tell them their kid needs a CoV test. How many times will I get yelled at today?

12:05 pm

my gynecologist said that he gets yelled at every day....and he is such a sweet person....

12:07 pm

there was a news story about a doctor who got punched in the face by a woman whose husband died of COVID, she blamed him for it, that he didn't give him ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine and stuff

12:07 pm

awul!

12:08 pm

awful, not awul... ;o)

12:08 pm

don't worry, i'm good at reading through typos

12:09 pm

same here....have done a lot of editing....can read bad handwriting, too....my father's was atrocious....

12:11 pm

hmmm this lowest L is troublesome

12:12 pm

i got 3 nice words but can't see more

12:12 pm

i have six L words from the lower L...

12:13 pm

do yo have the LA 7/9 combo?

12:13 pm

just found them actually!!

12:14 pm

do you know what the other 9 is?

12:14 pm

au 9/72....part of a 7/9 combo....

12:14 pm

Good morning!

12:15 pm

ty

12:15 pm

hi...

12:16 pm

Thank you for the 9s

12:17 pm

yw...

12:20 pm

awww, the tr5/16 reminded me that Sally Ann Howes from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang passed away

12:31 pm

ok. So the dictionary allows all sorts of words but not upsot? I know some people hate the jingle bells song, but still. :)

12:32 pm

taking a break...bbl to find my last 58....

12:32 pm

never heard of upsot....

12:32 pm

bye all....

12:33 pm

Poetic form of upset... to overturn

12:33 pm

And it's in the song Jingle Bells

12:38 pm

yeah that's the only place i've ever heard it

12:38 pm

i think the point was it wasn't a word, because when they say "misfortune seemed his lot, he got into a drifted bank and then he got upsot", then there's another voice in the background that goes, "upsot??"

12:40 pm

I don't recall ever hearing that in jingle bells

12:40 pm

I thought that, so I looked into it and it was in usage at the time.

12:40 pm

"But, though we will only encounter it in modern usage in direct reference to “Jingle Bells,” upsot can be found in a variety of usages that don’t all refer to James Pierpont’s 1850 composition and 1857 publication of the song. (Pierpont was 28 when he wrote it.) Bob has again saved me the research time; he has sent 15 different citations (not bad for a word that’s not in the OED), found with the aid of Bartleby.com and Project Gutenberg."

12:46 pm

Oh man, only in Babble chat.

12:55 pm

well at least now I found another U, thanks. HOET!

12:56 pm

and I could've totally used that in a sentence there

1:06 pm

i am VERY STUCK

1:11 pm

back after Spelling Bee....hello again...

1:20 pm

pintag...now that would be an interesting game to play....

1:20 pm

NOT....

I am just Amazing with no pangram yet

1:22 pm

i got a little past Genius today....

1:23 pm

found a nice combo to put me over the top....

nice

1:25 pm

feeling any better today?

1:25 pm

I got Queen Bee a little while ago, all doable words today!

yeah, but you're a bigger brainiac

not really, pen, but thanks

my head is still off

1:27 pm

it's mostly rote memory and remembering which stupid words Spelling Bee accepts that enable does not... :)

1:27 pm

did you get sick, hokie?

1:27 pm

doable has a different meaning for different people... ;o)

I have vertigo right now, mael

1:28 pm

oh that's brutal, I'm sorry

sneaky little grid today. it appears friendly at first...

1:29 pm

hopefully it resolves soon

have an appt for the 7th. hoping to get in sooner.

1:29 pm

I hope so

1:29 pm

i will keep my fingers crossed for you... X .....

oh no, carla

thanks, guys

that is quite disabling

I can still walk the dog but that's about it for exercise

i had a coworker who had it.. she had young children at home and was so afraid there would be an emergency since she could not drive. and people kept telling her it was all in her head

I can drive since I know which direction to avoid turning my head to trigger it

ooh, ga6/42!

1:45 pm

thanks TO!

2:01 pm

Wait, how can you avoid turning your head in a certain direction when you drive. Most times, when you are driving you have to turn your head both ways to see oncoming traffic from either direction.

3:14 pm

hokie, is it positional vertigo?

3:15 pm

hokie carla have you ever been diagnosed with BPPV? If not, Google it. I've had a couple of bouts of it which were resolved with the Epley Maneuver.

3:15 pm

I had it two years ago -- very very fixable.

3:15 pm

Epley maneuver - there are YouTube videos on how to determine if that is what it is, and how to resolve. Though best not to do alone.

3:16 pm

Definitely try not to do alone. Last time it affected me for hours afterward but then I was fine!

3:17 pm

Epley maneuver worked right away for me, but it was an uncomfortable 5 minutes doing the maneuver. :)

3:18 pm

I caused myself bigger issues by waiting to deal with it, and had secondary vertigo caused by neck tightness. Had to go for a few weeks of PT to resolve that. The BPPV was fixed right away.

3:20 pm

It really feels like a miracle afterwards. My GP said she saw a patient run up and hug their ENT doctor at a party and thank them profusely for her cure!

3:21 pm

Great to see input from nrkii & REG. I thought the Chog Police had branched out into the Traffic Police. It’s lovely to see positive helpful posts. 👏👏👏

3:28 pm

nrkii and hokie carla Here's a really interesting article about Dr. Epley: https://tinyurl.com/2p88dbvx

sorry, took the dog for a walk. yes, it is BPPV. I had it last Feb and a PT fixed it right away with the Epley, but I can't get in with her until 1/7. mostly a problem looking down or up high and I can't lie (lay?) on my back unless my head is turned to the left. can't lay (lie?) on my right side at all.

can't bend over, have to squat down and keep head straight.

have tried epley at home Mon and yesterday but apparently I need a professional.

3:52 pm

Oh no! Well, in case it helps, here's a great link for it: https://youtu.be/xTnV3m4bWDg Just watching that, I realized that I would not have done it quite right if I had tried to do from memory.

3:53 pm

aHA i finally found the easy HP noun you were talking about hokie. while you were away i did Dursley.

I saw my GP on mon for a different follow-up and told him about it. he gave me some printouts on epley and cawthorne exercises. plus I looked got some instructions on mayo for home epley. it definitely triggered hard on Mon when I did it but didn't go away so I guess I messed it up.

ha! I did not see dursley

3:55 pm

I know with my sister-in-law it took her several tries. Good luck!

thanks

3:56 pm

By the 7th, it may go away on its own. The crystals eventually absorb.

yeah, I've heard that from people in the know

3:56 pm

I had to go back to PT this week for my neck. Now that I've heard about your situation, I'm so grateful I got in fast.

3:57 pm

Some people pay money to feel like that, Carla haha. I hope you can get it sorted soon though sounds horrible.

3:57 pm

urst

3:57 pm

oops

actually, back in Feb it did go away. I saw an ENT and a PT on the same day and neither one of them got it to trigger because it had basically gotten better, but then I made appts with the PT for my neck and it happened to come back on a day I had an appt with her so she was able to fix it.

3:58 pm

Damn I tried it too, Nrkii haha!

thanks, zooz. I wouldn't wish it on anybody.

I think my glasses are making me feel worse so now I can't read anything because I don't want to wear them. 🤣😭

still stuck here. 41 left.

4:03 pm

Phantom: Strudel.

4:03 pm

mmm. strudel

4:07 pm

Not has strudel in years.

I definitely haven't

4:11 pm

Just found a word for trendy person!

darnit, I have that one

that launched our bushy beards tirade this morning

4:11 pm

That certainly would not be me then haha!

4:12 pm

Ah I misssed all that then.

4:12 pm

Missed*

lol, my eyes are so blurry I can't see your typo

4:13 pm

LOL

4:13 pm

hello

but I found some words, so now 35 left

hey joy!

4:13 pm

Hello, Joy

oh, I just found a 7 that must be the french/flipper one nan & molly were talking about this morning. finally have half of the 7s, still no 9s.

4:16 pm

I have a AU 9

well, I'll look for that, thx

eureka! thx

was missing the root too, so it was a twofer

4:17 pm

: )

isn't a dog an arfer?

4:20 pm

No idea, Carla.

lol, you know... they say "arf, arf"

4:21 pm

Oh! haha!

4:22 pm

Sorry I asked a question Carla. I was just curious.

4:22 pm

That one went right over my head.

I know, Molly. I didn't think it was offensive.

well zooz, I thought it did but it probably wasn't that funny to begin with. 😜

maybe dogs don't say arf in england?

4:24 pm

No it was a good one!

4:25 pm

Thank you, I didn't think you would but just checking since the snippy checked in.

4:25 pm

No they don't they say woof woof here LOL

It makes me think of the girl Eddie Murphy is supposed to marry in Coming to America when he tells her to bark like a dog while hopping on one foot.

I think she says "arf. arf. arf" but maybe she does woof. now I've gotta rewatch.

4:28 pm

Is it a comedy? Never heard of it. Although I do not watch hardly any TV at all. So would never watch it anyway.

oh yeah, she does arf and then he says a big dog and she switches to woof

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejsW9r\n1tUK8

yes a comedy from the 80s

a classic. Eddie Murphy is an African prince who comes to America to find a wife, and James Earl Jones is his father, the king.

4:32 pm

It says this video is not available anymore.

4:32 pm

Oh with your description I have seen little snippets of it when it was advertised years a go.

oh, it stuck the n in. take off everything after the back slash (incl. the back slash)

4:35 pm

I've barely started this grid and I'm already having trouble. I only found 2 of the second row Ls

I have 6, nothing super weird

one is a harry potter professor that's a werewolf

4:36 pm

All I have are 2 LU4s. Are there LEs or LYs?

4:37 pm

How could I miss Prof. L? He's one of my favorite HP characters?

I don't have any LE or LY

lu6 has a UK lu6 spelling

4:38 pm

There's a le6/7 combo

that must be my last 2 L's then. looking now, thx.

4:39 pm

Just to let you know, Carla the young lady does arf arf then woof woof.

yes, I remembered that. what's funny is I almost said before I mentioned the movie that maybe arf is for small dogs and woof is big dogs, and now I know where I got that from!

4:41 pm

Yes I can see that making sense after hearing the noise the lady made.

ah, got the L's, thanks

4:43 pm

Damn I wanted to use my like hannible clue.

I almost said hanibal

4:45 pm

Ah it is hannibal.

have made it to 27. no more than 3 left on each open one. probably about to reach babble blindness level.

4:48 pm

You made it further than me that is for sure.

just checked the flip for the other 9

4:49 pm

And?

4:50 pm

I hate it when I keep adding words that I have already added.

didn't know if you wanted it or not. LA9. and there are apparently 3 LA7 and I have 2 so that is my last 2 L's

4:51 pm

Thanks.

did you find it?

4:52 pm

No sorry I was saying thank you for the stat.

no probs

4:55 pm

tough grid for me

well, I am going to take a make supper break. must be late for you, zooz. good night!

4:56 pm

Agreed not an easy grid.

4:56 pm

Found the LA 7 & 9 now.

well good thing I haven't left yet

4:56 pm

Nearly 11pm here, Carla and My eyes are closing.

care to clue the LA7 and 9 before you fall asleep?

4:57 pm

I just read about su5 allergy and "really bad trip" is not a symptom 🤣. but I'll still try to avoid.
