so much really bad weather events this season...
here in Durban we have more than double the amount of summer rain than usual - rained almost every day since October
lots of flooding and damage in some areas

apparently we are in the el nina cycle which brings more than average rainfall
wow. my friend has been without enough rain for, it seems like, several years. makes one wonder if cycles are more severe due to climate change.
Cape Town has winter rainfall and things were much better during the winter for them - got a good amount of rain and crisis was averted somewhat
but I know nothing. are you well away from flooding, ursh?
yes we are OK here - no rivers nearby and not low lying

That was back in the day when you didn't have so many people driving. It's easier to walk in a blizzard than drive!
Nobody lived more than 10 blocks from school. On snow days we didn't have to walk home for lunch. But we still had to wear dresses!
my neighborhood was at the top of 2 hills, first one was shorter but steeper, second one was less steep but way longer. the school bus usually couldn't make it up the 2nd but there were a few times it couldn't make it up the 1st, so we had to walk up both. It was bad enough just walking up the one.
crazy to think we came home so many times with snow on the road...now they send kids home if there are a few flakes falling
Carla, I think that's because so many people rely on driving and busses these days. Traveling to and from school is more complicated
no, where I'm from only a handful of kids could walk to school. almost everyone had to ride buses.
we only had 3 high schools in our county. mine was the biggest and only had 4 feeder elementary schools, so way more spread out than 10 blocks. in fact, there are no blocks.
well, I definitely should have gotten 2 of my s's and some of the other words too. oh well.
