Lynxxx, I work in primary care so am not seeing the horrors of health care workers in emergency departments and ICUs.
I am stressed and anxious and cannot imagine the severity of illness and frequent deaths that they see.
Our stress is dealing with people that are anti-science--these people are anti-mask, anti-vax, and anti-regulation. They scream at us, curse at us.
I know Scrabbs but the 'ripples' spread out to you too. I was not in ED and ICUs but could see it clearly in staff (that weren't out because of Omicron!)
I read about CoV 1-2 hours daily and know the realities--long COVID, brain matter loss in survivors.
As a scientist it is fascinating to learn about CoV as the pandemic evolves, but as a human it is so sad.

I actually had a friend who, when a boy, sledded down the most dangerous hill in his neighborhood and broke his arm. While his mom took him to the emergency room to get patched up, second brother went down the hill with similar results.
while mom took the second kid to the ER and leaving strict instructions no one else slide down the hill, the third brother did it with the same results.
That poor mom.
when she took the third kid in the doctors took him aside and asked him if his mom was abusing him! Three kids in one day appeared suspicious.

This reminds me of the Montessori teacher I used to know that told the story of the kid who was not allowed sweets who stole sweets from all the kids in the class lunchboxes. They found her gorging on them in the janitor's closet.

We used it for what we called "White Trash Cheese Dip" in college
Velveeta is a pretty good cheese product and mixed with some sharp cheddar makes good mac and cheese

yeah it's not so great environmentally for us to be chopping down all those trees. i now go with balsam/cedar scented candles to get that christmassy smell instead
