congrats mael
Wow! Mael. Do you start with the same word everyday?
How can someone discuss a small word game for an hour?
They're talking about the NYT buying it. They talk about the social aspect. Scrabble. I wish they would talk strategy.
So ratfink was accepted yesterday. Why not the 60's word "neato"?
6 left. i kept trying neato, too!

hello
Hello, T owl! 🦉
Babble chat is something that I read every day. For the most part, I enjoy it, although I don't participate. I don't care for the political commentary or the snarky comments, so I have preferred to just stay in the background. You, Zooz, have always seemed to me to be such a kind and gentle soul - someone I would love to know in person. Odd, isn't it, that people who have never laid eyes on you feel more of a kinship than those in your physical world....
hello zooz! what was that wet leg single again???
Agreed, Lexophile I too am not into snarky comments so tend to stay away from those. And I would love to meet many of you wonderful babblers.
The song is called " Oh no!'
lol i am actully toying with the idea of flying over when a friend goes to work in march. she works near oxfod.
Alas, an overseas trip is just not in my future, so cyberfriendship must suffice :)
thank i must have a look. i just heard a good one by parquet courts- do you know them?
I was born in Oxford, T Owl! Ha! *n a place called blackbird leys. It was a bit of a poor persons area back in the 60s. Not been there since.
wow small world. my friend does something analytical with human drug trials. mostly works from home or travels the us but is emploued by a UK company.
Not heard of them here although I am willing to go and listen to them to see what they are about.
Walking at a downtown pace?
?
yes
Very nice! I love the bass line and the energy the song has Not a fan of scribbled out faces is the only downside for me. most enjoyable. Thanks for sharing!.
dutti wet keg. they are quite silly, aren;t they? and very generational.
ditto.
it is miserable here. ark worhty rain since yesterday, and then it will freexe.
Oh yuck. Bring on Summer already is what I say.
zooz you would make a great critic/reviewer. i sould send you links to some of the bands who want to play our festival!
yes warm weather is better for me. and longer daylight.
A band that made a little bit of a name for themselves here and I had wished they went global is.Micahu & The Shapes- Golden Phone. This is twelve years old now though. I still give it a whirl now and again lol
so zooz do you recognize where oh no! was filmed?
hi all
Hi there zooz. So good to see you. I, like other
Sorry was listening to golden phone lol. It looks like near the needles to me T Owl.
Hello, Peri!
Babblers, think you are a kind and funny man. I am sorry you are going through some difficult times. Hope things are a little bit brighter today
lunch time
ai am thinking of getting proffessional help soon, Peri. As I struggle with extreme anxiety amongst other things. I need to get it sorted as I hate being a manic depression a lot of the time. I will see soon.
Enjoy your lunch, T Qwl. I still think it was filmed near the needles by the way T Owl lol
ts
Fireworks! happy babbling everyone!
Congrats, Zooz!
Hi!!! Good afternoon! Any clues on the ST 7 and 8 words?
Anyone out there? :-) st7,32 and st8,45 have me stumped
ST + cons + last 4 of 5-letter tapeworm
Still nada montreal
I must be trying too hard....thanks for trying Montreal
st + chicken + two vowels and plural
np 2252...was away...going away again "sigh"
just a quick couple of comments. That is fantastic about the professional help zooz. And Lex.. the chat hasn't been snarky for a long long time. It's actually been really pleasant other than some people going off the deep end about covid. :D
Hold The Front Page. Breaking News : Soodle & Ru agree on something. I concur with everything in your most recent post Ru.
holy shit.. someone mark the calendar!!
thankfully Politics haven't been a big deal of late, and the most recent discussions have been very adult, civil, and calm.
.... together with a shared concern for a much loved Babbler in crisis. This is a good place, with good people.
I agree Ru. Some of the recent discussions have been very interesting, even with differences of opinion.
Thankfully, the players who were really stirring the pot seem to have either gone away or have decided to just keep the snark to a minimal level. It's just that there used to be so much of it that I decided that lurk mode was the best option for me. There are quite a few of you players with whom I think I would thoroughly enjoy spending an evening of socializing over a bottle of wine... :)
Differences of opinion are NECESSARY and should be respectfully discussed. Not everyone is able to do that, but we should all learn to have a bit more tolerance for what we deem different - even unacceptable (to a certain point, of course)
it seems like political discussions even discussing Trump have been very civil... I think the chat has been very pleasant for more than a year and a half. The troublemakers seemed to have moved on or are content to lurk.
anybody around to clue the st7/8 ?
st + chicken + two vowels and plural was the clue earlier
I am lurking lol but hopefully not a trouble maker
we can never be too sure about you Cherlyq :D :D
i do pop in and out
thanks cherlyq

I have 10 S's left

Ooops. I meant today good evening, but thought I saw a word first.
I'm basically just starting, ruru, you don't want to try counting down for me yet.

(makes changes to the Cherly board)
Go, cherlyq

Thanks ru.
thanks ru
Did you finish cherlyq?
Yep Fireworks
YAY, cherlyq!!! WTG!
Thanks Nef

No, I'm stumbling through Slowly but steadily. Thanks for offering though
what the heck is en 7 please? saw earlier clue but cannot see it.
I don't have it yet, mab, but will look
oh thanks nef. the clue said en plus babblet and then a not brother ending. can't see what the babblet is.
yeah that babblet is hard to clue
think of a British 2 letter word for goodbye (as the babbles)
thank you!!!
agreed, thank you!
i still don't see it, but your clue got me there.
oh... twisty.
Very twisty
i think we've had it before. architectural term, the definition of which is familiar. oh my.
it's the gentle curve in a column's shaft
a slight convexity given to a column or tower, as to correct an optical illusion.
to make it look, from a distance, straight.
which is funny since it was twisty in the puzzle lol
yep. doesn't look straight at all. no illusion.
thanks again nef :)
YW. :)
well I am out of here hope you all have a good night
tata, Cherlyq
Take Care & good night cherlyq. I'm about half done here so far.
Hello Nef and everyone else here, lurkers included since I am one most often. Just wanted to say how nice it is to see Nef again.
Hi, Bugs. It's nice to be back. I've been playing off & on with the chat off the screen for about a month now; nit's amazing how stupid one gets when you don't play word games on a daily basis!
I don't think we are stupid but I get the feeling. Cybernan has a good joke on that - If you find yourself searching for a word say, "I can't remember the word in English." That way people will think you are smart instead of forgetful.
Agreed, Nef, nice to see you here :)
LOL That sounds Good! I think I'll "borrow" that phrase (I just hope no one asks what language I know it in!)
nice to meet you mich-pdx. I am in BC>
Thanks, mich. I just opened chat the other night (origami caught me lurking!)
Hi Nef 😊
the Lurk Police lady! Hello Nef.
Hi Bugs. I've actually been playing since 2006, but took about 8 years off, just back earlier this Summer. So many of you are familiar to me, but I became out of sight, out of mind
LOL!! Yep, I got caught! 😊
I mean Hello ori! talk about not being able to find the right words. . . a living example
I took some time off too mich but it wasn't that long.
I'm currently in Seattle, keeping an eye on my mom, so practically in BC :)
That is why I mentioned it. I used to go to Seattle every now and again before Trump and then Covid.
Hi Bugs. I outed Nef :D
I must not try History again. sigh
We had to move to Senior living in Sept. of 2020, my old computer died and I kind of lost some of my favorite online places (&also the time to play here).
I was hoping the being in a supported living place would give you more time to yourself now, Nef. Are you still doing almost everything?
I just have to keep track of everything these days, his memory is *maybe* 2 minutes long; so I can't tell him to just go play Bingo because (even though he loves it) he can't remember where he's going to get there! (It's just below us 2 floors, using the elevator he can still get lost)
My husband is going down that road too. I am sorry. It can be very frustrating for the caregivers. Will they make sure he stays in the building if he gets lost?
yes, especially now (it's winter & the temp has been around zero (f) or a month now).
This place has been very protective of everyone with Covid; which, one the 1 hand is frustrating & restrictive, but on the other hand we've only had 14 cases (counting the staff, even!)since Covid started & I think only 2 deaths (there are over 120 residents here and IDK the size of the staff)
That must be a relief. When my mother tried to wander off the staff made sure to keep her inside until they could find my father and give her back. She got out a couple of times but not often because they had to go find her.
That is a good safety record. Well done to all the staff and visitors for going along with the rules.
It is a good record. it's also frustrating if we're the ones quarantined (we were after Christmas 2020 when we visited our sons' house for 3 hrs. Christmas Eve). We had to stay in our apt. for 2 weeks! Thank goodness for the vaccines!
It will be so much better when people don't have to spend so much time apart, for sure. I agree that vaccines are making the difference.
They have made such a difference. Our new friends here are a good 20 years older than us, & a 96 y/o guy tested positive for Covid; said he felt rotten for 2 days & then just felt like he had a very bad cold. but he'd been vaccinated & we'd had our boosters too, & he's back playing cards & still telling everyone sick "dad" jokes. 😊
Such a good story. Omicrom is supposed to be like a bad cold if you are vaccinated but it is good to know it didn't trip up a 96 year old.
(We play cards & some board games & do jigsaw puzzles in the game room which is right next to our apartment; Frank can go there and play cards or Rummikub & work on jigsaw puzzles; & they are very patient with him most of the time.
Hi Nef! Been a minute...
It's good he has some mentally stimulating things to do, Nef.
Those activities will keep his mind as sharp as it can be. My husband won't play games or socialize (unless free food is involved) so I have to keep him home as long as possible. He likes to putter in his workshop, even if all he is doing is moving things around.
IDK how they can be as patient with him as they are sometimes. We play the card game "500" & he will bid in hearts & not play them. *I* get aggravated at him when that happens!
It is harder for you because you remember the man he used to be. Others can go home and have a laugh. It is all good. One day you will all be playing TIGWAR - The Incredible Game Without Any Rules. ;)
LOL, Bugs! that's funny!
It comes from an old movie about baseball players. I had kids over a 14 year spread so when the older ones would play cards the little ones would want in so they just had a couple of hands of TIGWAR and everyone was happy.
Bang the Drum Slowly
It is hard to see him loose it. He had a Masters Degree in Ag. Economics, worked in the USDA for 25+ years, was a great cook, funny conversationalist, etc. & now that's all gone.
these last 9 words are elusive
I have 32 left. I should concentrate on the grid again, right? 😉
It is one of the worst things to watch happen to someone . I am so sorry that there are so many of us doing it. It is often harder on the caregiver than the patient because eventually they reach the point where they don't care but we always will. Sending hugs. I think I will wander off for a cup of tea and will be back later to finish .
Okay, enjoy the tea!
It is hard. My husband had metastatic cancer with brain tumors. Watching him slowly lose it was terrible.
Oh, man; Ori! That would be hard too! Knowing he had cancer and nothing you could do to slow or stop it!
any clue for the en 5/10. trying all the combos but getting nothing!
Stephanaki, it's a fairly common Babblet, meaning that something is real
en + (I think it's Spanish for aunt)
I am so stumped honestly! not getting it
ok, I am fairly sure I typed that in 1000 times! but I guess I really didn't. thank you so much.
