Movin' along. Tomorrow is 3 years alone. Kinda rough still. How are you doing?
any fires or hurricanes your way lately?
I'm still kicking, have a roof over my head, and the bills are mostly paid, not much else to aspire to.
Less fires here in Calif than in years! They have been doing controlled burns to get things under control. It's working, but too little too late. My homeowner's policy non-renewed me because I have 2 oaks that are over 200 years old, but they're 16 feet apart, and the company wanted them 18 feet apart. So stupid!
Yes, having the roof over our heads is important! I just got my new tax bill - our county is falling apart, so it went up about $400 a year, but I'm not complaining because things need fixing around here.
Ridiculous! Maybe measure the trees from center to center? haha!
Haha! Love that idea! But they were just gonna be jerks, so I got a policy with Farmer's - not as much coverage for incidentals, but about the same price I paid last year.
one thing I do really like about our little bitty town is the really low property taxes. Like ten percent of average in the next good-sized town.
I'm sure my taxes aren't bad compared to where I used to live in So Calif. Little towns do have to raise things, and this was the year for that here because the infrastructure is just failing.
yeah, not much here for the taxes to support. The grade school closed down about ten years back and now the kids get bussed about 15 miles to school. Tiny town library and the post office in the same building, and one bar. They haven't really fixed the dips in my stretch of road (one block to my dead end) in the whole 30+ years we've been here.
now they're threatening to fine me because my son has a collection of old tires piled up - wasn't a good idea on his part, but can't really get rid of them these days.
I told him to build a playground or something like out of them, that'll teach 'em!
That's sad the school closed down. We are paying for the community college about 35 miles away which was supposed to build a campus here. Never happened. Our water rates just increased by about 40 % and I just found that they haven't even fixed a leak in the road I reported a year ago! But life goes on.
Geez, can't he just take them to the dump and pay a couple of bucks each?
not sure, I think he tried once, might have to look into it myself. I think it's lots more per tire these days.
I haven't had to get rid of a tire for years, so I don't know, but there has to be somewhere that will dispose of them cheaper than a fine, most likely.
They didn't used to bug us like that when Hubs was still alive. He could talk them out - or into - just about anything.
Yeah, the hubs. They took care of us. Mine worked for the county for over 20 years, so he knew so many people! I'm missing him, but anniversaries do that to me. I'll be better in a few days. At least I passed my driver's test on Tues! They ask so many statistics I was afraid I might fail it, but I got the license renewed. After you hit 70 here you have to keep getting tested.
hey, google says it's only $2.50/tire in this state. there are like 40 of them. Still not so bad - $100. But son is stubborn. We shall see.
a historic era has passed here - I can go to the bar downtown and more people don't know my dear departed hubby than do any more. He used to be locally renowned, hah. It's been almost 7 years, hard to believe.
Sounds cheaper than the fines we get around here! Good luck with that. Sonny will have to haul a couple of truckloads. He doesn't need the tires for anything, right?!!
Nope, they're mostly all rejects, though some might work for someone for a bit if they were broke. He changes them out with Hubby's old equipment.

(((hugs))) for your anniversary, though, I know the feeling. My birthday's next week, and he and I used to spend it home with a nice campfire, most years. Not like the giant todo we put on for his in May. I miss the quiet times with him.
At least you have your son nearby. My daughter is over 450 miles away. I don't have any family in the area any longer, and hubby's family turned out to be money hungry. So sad. They won't lift a finger to help me.

There are 3 other physicians and 4 nurse practitioners.
I have nightmares that I am on call. I awake and quickly check my phone for a message.
that's good. We have a big problem here, mostly with family physicians, because there is no one to take their place when they retire and patients are left hanging with no doctor.
I worked in a rural area and it is challenging to find docs to come out here.
we have a large retired population and there just aren't enough doctors to go around.
The loss of primary care docs will worsen. In fact, COVID is causing health systems to collapse.
that seems to be the case. Too many people in health care are burning out from the overload.
COVID has killed or disabled so many docs and nurses, or caused PTSD.
The antivaxxers make me so angry as go people who have symptoms and don't test and don't stay home. Whatever happened to lining all the kids up in the school gymn and vaccinating them as was done during the polio epidemic so many years ago?
The anti-science people triggered my early retirement. Dealing with them was so difficult.
I think it should be within a doctor's rights to refuse treatment for a disease where vaccination has been offered and refused. Maybe that would bring them to their senses. Do they not realize that they probably put far more dangerous ingredients in their mouths every day when it comes to health safety?
Our practice refused to enroll patients if the parents refused the vaccines required for school. FLu, CoV, and HPV are optional.
those that refused to wear masks were quick enough to put them on when they needed to go to the hospital or a clinic
Ha, when parents hesitated to give the optional vaccines because "something is going into his/her body" I asked if they let their kids eat hot dogs, deli meats, or tuna fish.
