I don't think there's much impetus to update the game's word list, unfortunately.
updating anything like this is hugely expensive. Book publishers even like Oxford can't afford to update.

Squardle is managing to customize it's word list, on a somewhat adhoc basis, but I think it's actually making some money from it

I wasn't thinking in terms of expense, though. For a single developer who has full control, adding words to a custom word list isn't difficult, just doesn't provide much benefit unless the developer happens to be picky about it. :)
And maybe they don't want to deviate from an established list.
It is truly a horrible list.
I noticed morewords.com has added some (don't know exactly when, but in the past couple of years probably) that I've not seen in any online game's word list before
With Squardle, the point is that they've differentiated between "normal" words (with community input) and other bonus words in the Scrabble word list that they've licensed
And also, they exclude offensive words
Forgot what Squaredle was called! I used to like doing the huge boards with plenty of words in them

not really. We moved the stuff we had stored in our container to where we are living atm. And I have severe moving traumas so it was rough.

I attended a lovely birthday party/holiday thing on Saturday. Sunday I helped a friend search through his storage unit for his humidifier and a few other things, and rearranged a good number of items.
on the plus side: the kids helped beautifully and all is here now. We can sort it out. Lots of water damage.

We got 22 inches last week but now we will have a few warm days with rain.
I took my great-nephews snowboarding at the snow resort across the valley yesterday. They had a great time.

great! how old? my oldest snowboards and the youngest is going to take a lesson in a couple of weeks when he & mr. homie go out west. they all 3 got the epic pass.

Why do we say some grids are awful and some are pleasant? What are the criteria of a good grid? Asked by one who only goes as far as I can without the list.

some grids have a higher proportion of weird words, or very twisty words that are hard to find, and those are the ones we tend to find more "awful"
but i do agree that if i cease having fun then it is my responsibility to stop looking for words in that grid
however, shared opinions about the nature of a grid can be a bonding thing, creating camaraderie amongst babblers
