At Christmas I made OJ ice cubes, put them in champagne flutes and poured the prosecco over them. Worked like a charm! Added orange peel in one batch to be fancy.

instead of hemming I tried sewing on this decorative selvage from the skirt fabric but I didn't measure it first. (was doing this in a bathrobe and my wet hair in a towel). so of course it wasn't long enough, so then I started seam ripping it out and it was too hard, so then I cut it off and had to hem.
done!
also had to pick out the invisible zipper like 3x because I kept doing it wrong. and I don't have an inv. zipper foot so it's not invisible.

and the skirt fabric has mini sequins so today I will be cleaning the sewing room and machines

well, the pattern tutorial said it was a quick sew. took me like 3 days
but par for the course for my garment makes. it usually goes pretty well right until the end and then something major happens. I was really questioning my hobby yesterday.
I see people in the FB groups who crank out several things daily. maybe if I made stuff more than once it would go faster in subsequent attempts.
next up I hope to make some winter golf clothes

just reading the chat and chuckling at Carla's sewng woes. I used to so everything I and my daughter wore -- even the boy's clothes up intil about age 8. I hardly so at all now. Fabrics are so expensive that it is cheaper just to buy everything.

I buy mostly knits, which i have to do online, which means $15 shipping at least
last cotton I bought was a cotton lawn for $8.29/yd
you would never get it for that here. Broadcloth is about the cheapest fabric you can buy. Very few decent fabrics for less that $20/yd.

when I first started sewing garments like 10 or 15 years ago, I was making pj pants for my boys and went to my LQS (local quilt shop) for some flannel and didn't notice the price. It was like $32/yd or something. like the pj pants ended up costing over $70.
I definitely learned to pay attention to that!
our problem is that Fabricland came in with their discount prices and drove every other drygoods store in town out of business. Now they have a monopoly other than a handful of quilt shops, so can charge whatever they want.

I just make stuff for the house now when I can't find the colours I want. I don't have too much trouble buying clothes that fit and It's not like I need to dress up to go out very much. All of our community activities are casual and the black tie dinners are a thing of the past :)
yeah, I rarely go anywhere in something besides workout clothes and the few times I go to the clubhouse I can wear nice jeans with a nice top. I need more golf and tennis clothes though, and having plenty of patterns that will work, I'd rather do that than pay golf clothes prices.
