So who got snow or otherwise bad weather here in the States? We didn't get as much snow in SW Iowa as I could have wished for. We dearly need moisture.

6:19 am

Good morning, Babblers. :)

6:25 am

One good thing about retirement is being able to ignore that the Jeep is buried under snow and can remain like that until I am good and ready to dig it out.

6:27 am

Lake effect was not a factor last night, but even so we got about 18 inches of snow last night.

6:27 am

Ugh. Need a nice cup of tea...not awake yet.

6:51 am

I see that our nocturnal "masked" critter is in the grid today. :)

6:58 am

schools are on a two hour delay here, currently raining ice after a few inches of snow overnight

6:59 am

Ours are all closed.

7:01 am

Bussed in students account for at least 50% of our local high school population and busses are all canceled.

7:02 am

that makes sense to cancel then, ugh

7:02 am

I wish we;d gotten all snow

7:03 am

Ice is the worst. At least with it being just snow we are still pretty mobile within town limits. I shudder to think of the current highway conditions.

7:09 am

In 199, we got three and a half feet of snow in one night and it paralyzed the town, so a few of us with snowmobiles set up camp at the local grocery store/pharmacy in order to deliver suplies/medice to those who were trapped at home. I will never forget that. It was most satisfying to dig out someones front door to deliver critical medication.

7:09 am

I'm just up, and afraid to look outside. We only had a good inch or two of snow as of last night.

7:09 am

1991*

7:10 am

that is crazy crossy

7:10 am

I;m currently reading a book on the great blizzard of 1952

7:10 am

Cool. :)

7:13 am

The biggest danger that year was clogged roof vents. Those heating with oil/NG, propane were in peril of poisioning themselves in their own homes.

7:14 am

yeah, I am so glad our vent is up high but not on the roof, it's out the side of the house

7:14 am

Very nice. :)

7:15 am

we have a generator so for us snowstorms are just kinda cozy

7:15 am

not ice storms though, ugh, it's gross outside

7:16 am

Yup. Having a cozy day here as well. Best time to start a new book. :)

7:16 am

We are supposed to drive to philly friday. Hope for good warm weather and clear skies.

7:16 am

Howdy, mkg. :)

7:20 am

Hi cross hair

7:22 am

five u words? Wow not seeing any

7:23 am

got one…not seeing more

7:23 am

I have found just one.

7:25 am

I found a um 5

7:26 am

Name that famous poem in the grid. Its premise being that the journey is more important than the actual destination. One of my favourite poems.

7:29 am

Found a coconut cookie. An 8

7:30 am

Yum!

7:31 am

plural it for the 9?

7:31 am

Yup

7:31 am

Yup.

7:31 am

Ty all

7:36 am

Started buying everything Canadian we can as part of our normal grocery shopping, so now all of our bread products come from a local bakery here in town. Wish we had done it before this nonsense. Such a flavour difference, and bringing home a package of bagels that are still warm never gets old. :)

7:38 am

Don't even care that they cost a bit more as long as those dollars stay here.

7:39 am

Where do you live cross?

7:39 am

Good move!

7:40 am

I live in Colingwood--a town of 26,000 on the south shore of Georgian Bay.

7:40 am

Collingwood*

7:44 am

W also have a Segrams distillery here in town that is now hiring like crazy to keep up with demand now that all the U.S booze has been pulled from the shelves. It may not be much in the greater scheme of things, but we do our part.

7:46 am

If fct, all our local craft brweries are working overtime as well. Got me some nice Sleemans Cream ale. :)

7:47 am

In fact*

7:49 am

All those Senators and Congressmen in the South Like Kentucky and Tennessee are going to have a lot of their liquor companies donators scream bloody murder

7:54 am

Yup. Targeted responses.

7:55 am

can I go on record here that Trump is an idiot?

7:56 am

Wait till Trumo tell the Aircraft cimpanies to build planes with aluminum that will cost a minimum of 25%more to buy.

7:56 am

You can.

7:56 am

Damn typos

7:58 am

I find it stunning that he can inflict that much damage globally in a month. Or that he is allowed to even continue.

8:01 am

Closing the borders, making other countries look elsewhere to sell their product. Removing the U.S from all joint global initatives. Is it just me, or is he trying to create a North Korea 2.0?

8:02 am

this is all a diversion for him to create chaos and eliminate "enemies" in government.. wantonly break laws and restructure our government. It's a scary time to be a USA citizen

8:02 am

I read a column about how the last president who put huge tarrif’s in place was Hoover who got us into the depression.

8:03 am

I mean what is s next? Marketing televisions and radios that only pick up U.S givernment call ntrolled stations?

8:03 am

I am very stuck at 86 words and not seeing anything else.

8:03 am

Government controlled*

8:03 am

Any help welcome.

8:04 am

It is a tough grid.

8:04 am

I just want to get half way. Darn.

8:06 am

It is very scary, I am sure. We feel bad for our American friends.

8:10 am

Nobody found my poem yet.

8:10 am

It is crazy scary here. i hope Canada stays strong against the Felon.

8:11 am

and his keeper Adolf Musk

8:11 am

You guys stay strong as well. Don''t get assimilated!

8:12 am

never

8:13 am

thankfully Tesla sales worldwide are dropping like a rock.. and musk lost 90 Billion dollars in wealth with the stock dropping accordingly

8:13 am

It must be unnerving knowing that "muskrat" is going through sensitive financial records of Americans.

8:13 am

that is really scary

8:14 am

hopefully the judicial system will hammer them shortly

8:14 am

Haha I like that. Muskrat. The Muskrat and the Felon

8:14 am

Sounds like a bad 89's sit-com

8:15 am

80's*

8:15 am

or a bad Carpenters song

8:15 am

Lol

8:15 am

'humor for our times

8:17 am

Now they are talking about "stacked" tarrifs!

8:18 am

The first day of March for everything, then the steel and aluminum mid-month.

8:18 am

the stupid thing is that only a small amount of fentanyl has been passed through the canadian border.. most of it comes from Mexico

8:22 am

That is true.

8:23 am

Recently we intecepted over nine million dollars of cocaine coming from the U.S to Canada, so foes that mean we can go tarrif crazy as well?

8:23 am

Does*

8:25 am

crazy don't you guys have enough snow as it is?

8:25 am

Lol

8:25 am

It is definately deep out there today.

8:26 am

Mr. B and I were talking yesterday. He was born in Germany, but has lived in the US since he was 2. He said when Hitler said all of these things, people thought they were great ideas, but that he would never do it. Sound familiar?

8:27 am

it's too similar.. and Trump is surrounded and supported by nazi types

8:28 am

Actually, we don"t do much "Bolivian marching powder," because as Canadians we are like a really nice apartment that just so happens to be located above a meth lab. Make us nervous as it is.

8:28 am

As an american, I am embarrassed by Trump

8:29 am

As a Jewish American I know when to be afraid.

8:30 am

I am really surprised that Trump has not had an "accident" yet. I think the thought of J.D as president is the only thing keeping him alive right now.

8:31 am

I thought Trump said he didn't see a future for Vance

8:32 am

Have not heard that. He bashing his own pick for V.P now?

8:32 am

Pribably wants his son as V.P

8:34 am

I think he's trying to figure out a way to get Musk as the next president. The man can do anything he wants. ((((

8:36 am

Muskrat as V.P is a terrifying thought.

8:37 am

a little miffed that Enable accepts the MA8/9 combo but not its loosely-related, often-confused MA7/8 counterpart.

8:40 am

Agree, Eva

8:41 am

that's how the cookie crumbles though

8:42 am

not if you bake em right! lol

8:45 am

have a good day everyone.. this was a challenging grid for me.

8:46 am

A couple of weird ones in it, for sure.

8:49 am

I tried that as well, Eva. Enable is mysterious.

8:51 am

fW. There were at least 2 I haven't seen before, including the ur8. Last was th6 which has no definition. Lovely. Have a great day!

8:51 am

A clue for the ur8, please?

and two related 6s...

hmm

9:26 am

The sixes are eluding me.

same

9:27 am

one ends in two vowels....the other is an adjective form....

have tried all kinds of related endings

9:28 am

sorry, i think i misled...the two related 6s are not built off the 4....

well, I've been trying to make related ones. I thought that's what you meant.

9:28 am

Lol.

found one

and the other

9:29 am

but i guess they are all related in meaning....just that the 6s don't build off the 4s....

change the 3rd letter, crossy

ooh, found an 8/9

9:32 am

normal words for a change!

9:32 am

The coconut cooke.

9:32 am

Cookie

I first tried the french non coconut version and it is not a word

9:39 am

it is, just not here....a different version of the ma 8...French version....

they're not the same cookie though. I prefer the french one. and it's gluten free!

9:40 am

no...i also prefer the French version...

9:41 am

The bakery we now use makes the french version. :)

9:41 am

so does mine...

9:42 am

They are trendy right now. Band wagon jumper alert.

9:42 am

Prefer fresh cannolis though with lots of chantilly cream.

who, the bakery?

yeah, I prefer fresh cannolis too but they aren't gf

9:43 am

didn't know they are trendy...my bakery has made them for years....

never heard of chantilly cream though

9:43 am

A 50/50 iowd r n frh cuted.

I bought a box of frozen ones at costco probably 10 years ago but I don't know what molly's def of trendy is

9:44 am

Mix of fresh whipped cream and custard

are you okay, crossy?

I think cannolis here have a cream cheese mix

9:45 am

I am having some minor motor control issues today

sorry

9:46 am

Using a tablet is not helping either.

9:46 am

can be very frustrating playing on a tablet...

name that porsche in the grid

9:47 am

Last year or so, I have started picking up some minor hand tremors.

9:48 am

have you seen a doctor about them?

sorry again. and like pen said it is frustrating playing on a tablet or phone.

9:48 am

no idea on the porsche...

9:49 am

Not yet, Pen, but my lungs have been a mess this winter and all the Ventolin I am taking is not helping matters.

9:49 am

well i hope at some point that you get it checked out...sorry about your physical issues....

ditto

9:50 am

Sorry, did not mean to list my issues, we all have medical quirks going on, I am sure.

9:51 am

got that right!...

9:51 am

I have quirks but nothing medical

quite alright

9:51 am

My wife says that I have those as well, ruru.

9:53 am

I try to tell her that the cure is a nice single malt whiskey.

9:54 am

Partial to some of Jameson's offerings of late.

I gotta get ready for my dentist appt. TTFN.

9:55 am

Tc, hokie.

9:56 am

Has a nice peaty undertone.

9:56 am

well i am stalled at 41....time for a break...bye all...

9:57 am

Tc, Pen.

10:00 am

The poem, btw, was "Ithica," by Constantine Cavafy, written in 1911.

10:00 am

good morning :)

10:01 am

Howdy, Cybernan. :)

10:02 am

"Ithaca"**

10:03 am

Both spelling varriants appear, it seems.

Are there really 187 words in this grid? I’ve found 71 & haven’t found another one since then.

11:19 am

i have 104 so there are at least that many :D

11:19 am

and i haven't attacked all the tiles yet

11:19 am

Thanks, hurshy. I’ll keep looking then

11:20 am

morning all

12:05 pm

hi moo, hurshy, et al.

12:06 pm

Hurshy, thanks for the chronic breathing issue to start. I have that and emphysema, but both are well controlled.

12:06 pm

hey ch, happy Thursday

12:07 pm

congrats on managing those ch1212

12:08 pm

Today is a happy day because I made a decision to not look at news today. Thanks, wing. Managing stress is a part of that, so no news today.

12:09 pm

i just peaked at news, are you better off not looking ... when will this end ... i've seen someone is counting down the days till the term is over .. but, where does that lead to?

12:09 pm

yes, ignoring the news right now is a good way to achieve more peace in your life

12:10 pm

Ignoring the news is fine. Better to back that up with some positive action on your part. Contact your representatives and let them know what you are against so they know how to represent you.

12:11 pm

At the same time I feel guilty because I recognize the privilege I have, while many of my friends and relatives who are either POC or immigrants or both are living in constant fear right now.

12:11 pm

molly ... i wonder how much they care now ... judging from their current actions, i think they've caved as well

12:11 pm

Do a Google search on how to fight back against Trump and get involved.

12:12 pm

You are right, Molly, and I have already done so, in addition to working on a local front.

12:12 pm

the vietnam was was my protest movement

12:12 pm

Well then wingding, you can always sit back and do nothing.

12:13 pm

I'm also mindful that like many people who have survived major and chronic trauma, my mental health must be my priority, and that means taking care of myself first.

12:13 pm

i hear you, but, do you honestly, and i'm being sincere, think they will do anything other than huddle together and ride this out till the mid-terms .. they do not hold a majority and look whom was just confirmed ...

12:15 pm

ch1212, i think you are right 'working on the local front' ...it's closer to home and a smaller pot to stir

12:15 pm

Molly, one thing I've learned in my experience is that shaming others for not behaving the way you think they should is always counter-productive. Better to focus on your own behavior. :)

12:16 pm

And having just posted that, I want to apologize, and I wish we had a delete button. It's not my job to take anyone's inventory. I can only share my own experience. I'm sorry, Molly.

12:17 pm

I am not shaming anyone.

12:19 pm

ch1212 .,., you are not offending anyone,, i did re-read your post, and think of my 9yo i'm dealing w/ ... the 'other in our relationship' is very verbally abusive, but, when not around, he's very respectful and playful, i remind him, i do not have to listen to it from you

12:21 pm

I don't know what else to say to someone who responds to a "get involved/take action" comment that way. I wasn't being verbally abusive.

12:21 pm

On a silly note, I tried muric thinking of the acid, but no, and neither is muriatic :D

12:22 pm

finding this grid a little challenging

12:23 pm

in my mid 70s w/ a 9yo kid in sports, and a F/T job, i can't get more involved ... but, i can bitch about it .. i've heard so much already ... i'm tired of the winning and hope i don't lose any of my benefits i've earned

12:25 pm

Are you grandfathering or a father? Either way, you're a dad !!

12:25 pm

:) father

12:25 pm

in the locker room they refer to me as grandpa

12:26 pm

You are so brave. I'm turning 70 this year and can't imagine having a little one at this point. My daughter will be 50 this year. But good on you! Enjoy the ride!

12:28 pm

the responsiblity just gets in the way/prolongs retirement ... just very fortunate to have a good job that is not at risk of being ended by somebody ...

12:29 pm

That's very fortunate. Kids are expensive.

12:30 pm

if you are involved in ice hockey, expect to put out a huge sum ....

12:30 pm

when i was a kid, i had empty building lots, construction equipment, and my bike ... along w/ a hoard of friends ... to play w/

12:31 pm

It's a different world that our kids are experiencing. With different expectations that we didn't face.

12:33 pm

if you are turning 70yo ... i am sure you remembered 'tommy tuck' in school .. we practiced shielding ourselves in the event of a atom bomb being dropped ... now that i look back at that, it was easier to deal w/ than a school shooting ...

12:37 pm

Oh yes! "Duck ... and cover. Duck ... and cover." I still remember the tune, and that turtle. Yes, in our day it was nuclear war, Vietnam war, school bombings, school knifings, kids dying or permanently freaked out on drugs, etc. I attended large city schools with those issues, and also attended tiny schools with drug use and high pregnancy rates. It was somehow 'normal' in those days.

12:37 pm

A U.S child must wonder why the interpetaion of a 250 year old amendment proctect guns with such fevor, yet a few dollars zen school kids every once in a while seems to have been relegated as the cost of doing business as they hide under their desks as the shots ring out, praying for a "good guy with a gun."

12:38 pm

A few dozen*

12:40 pm

I am not anti-gun, I skeet and target shoot, but safety rules here are vastly different than south of the birder.

12:40 pm

Historically, there has never been a safe time or place for children. I researched the history of child abuse for a section of my book, and recognized that hard truth in countries around the world. Sad.

12:42 pm

crossy, my dad taught me to shoot, and safety was key. He didn't even let me fire until I could field strip my .40 caliber handgun and clean it, and demonstrate the safety rules first.

12:43 pm

For example, when going to the gun club if I was to take my shotgun, and my .308, I would call the police station, give them my route of travel, how long I would be at the gun club, and an ETA of my arrival back home.

12:44 pm

That was common practice at the time.

12:44 pm

I haven't lived anywhere in the US with that stringent a rule. Hopefully the Canadian police have a form online for you to fill out so they are free to do other stuff.

12:45 pm

I sm sure they do now, but when I was heavily into it computers were not a thing yet, so we phoned it in.

12:46 pm

That says a lot of positive things about where you lived!

12:46 pm

Now I bring my camera into the woods instead.

12:46 pm

And the animals thank you for that! :D

12:46 pm

Not saying it is perfect, but it is a lot safer.

12:47 pm

Seems like a lot of work for the police when they have more important things to be doing

12:48 pm

That's what I thought too, Molly. Crossy must have lived in a pretty quiet place without much crime. At least, I hope.

12:54 pm

You would call the non emergency line and someone at a desk took the info. That way it is on record should you get pulled over.

12:54 pm

crossy ... i miss skeet /trap / target ... i'm not on the farm anymore ... still have everything though

12:54 pm

I also don't get how that prevents any crimes from being committed with the guns but whatever.

12:55 pm

I loved skeet, winding. :)

12:56 pm

Knowing where guns are lessens the chance of them falling into the wrong hands, molly.

12:56 pm

my 9yo is into the computer games now, and in my area, the gun stores look like a locker room for a terrorist ... i don't even wanna bring him in there ... it's not much of a sport anymore ..

12:57 pm

Plus handgun regs are Much more restrictive.

1:00 pm

i do mostly shotgun .. have plenty of rifles, but, usually the .22 for errant ground hogs and possums ... did get a skunk last year in my yard ... i've two dogs. one of them got sprayed, so that animal is fair game as far as i'm concerned .. a really nightmare to get rid of the stink

1:00 pm

I don't think D. T really wants Canada. All those new blue votes would have him back to doing game shows.

1:01 pm

Tomato juice, wing. When our dogs got into skunks on my grandpa's farm, I bathed them in tomato juice to get the smell out. When they got into porcupines though, I had to use the pliars. Poor things.

1:02 pm

We used to keep a. 22 hornet on the farm for varmit control.

1:02 pm

i had tried the tomoato juice back in the '80s when it happened ... this time i used hydrogen peroxide / baking soda / dawn ...what a wonder it was ... first time and it was gone

1:02 pm

thankfully no animal w/ spikes around here :)

1:03 pm

oooh, wish I'd known about that instead.

1:03 pm

stoai

1:03 pm

oops, penalty box for me. I hope there are treats!

1:04 pm

for those that may need it, 32oz bottle of peroxide / 1/4c of baking soda / 2 tbls dawn ... apply it on dry fir and leave there for a day ... rinse off after that .. a miracle

1:04 pm

ty ch1212

1:05 pm

any ideas for squirrels ??? they are smart about the trap and i'm in a urban area, so, .22 is alittle loud and upsets the neighbors

1:06 pm

What do the squirrels eat at your house?

1:06 pm

acorns from my oak and any bulbs they dig up

1:07 pm

i've put peanut butter in the trap, but, they won't go near it, but, they know how to trip it shut from the outside

1:07 pm

bbl - 15 left and I need a break.

1:08 pm

Not much you can do when you have nuts on your property.

1:09 pm

It is against the law in our state to trap critters to release somewhere else. We can trap them, but they have to be released back on the property where they were caught.

1:10 pm

yeah, i doubt that law would keep me in check ... i get rid of the skunks ... my knees shake when i'm coming up on them in the trap

1:20 pm

What world issues are we solving today? I just got h9me from pool exercises and I am snuggled in for a coming storm. The snow has just begun falling, we expect 15 to 30cm. Nice to stay home nice and warm.

1:22 pm

our snow is almost gone, but, more is coming next week

1:24 pm

I don't know that world problems have been solved today but I know what we are having for dinner. That is always my daily quandry.

1:24 pm

We got our 18 inches last night, Swmbo. Your turn now. :)

1:24 pm

the only critter we relocate are groundhogs

1:24 pm

my dinners are what's on sale that day

1:24 pm

So what is on your menu?

1:25 pm

my groundhogs do not relocate too well

1:25 pm

Homemade cream of broccoli soup.

1:25 pm

the entire ground under my shed has been dug out by them ... i just get rid of them

1:25 pm

soup sounds good on a cold night

1:25 pm

you have to bring them across a river

1:25 pm

Mmm sounds good!

1:27 pm

any across the river trip costs me $4 now ... used to be $1 ..but, i won't make the trip and subject another homeowner to the nightmare ordeal i've just caught

1:28 pm

if they staying in the woods .. i wouldn't bother them

1:28 pm

we live in the woods so it's just relocating them to more woods away from my vegetable garden lol

1:29 pm

yes, i' ve caught them in the garden ... they will eat alot

1:30 pm

For us it was groundhogs. The cattle wouls step into a hole and break their legs, so the groundhogs had to go.

1:34 pm

We used to "babysit" a larger farmers herd for the summer--80 pregnant cows.

1:35 pm

Oh my Crossy, that sounds like quite a busy job!

1:35 pm

Hardest part was stopping them from escaping!

1:36 pm

I swear that those cows could find a two foot gap in five miles of fencing.

1:36 pm

You wouldn’t think they’d want to roam

1:37 pm

They love walking fence lines for some reason.

1:37 pm

Later on, as they get close, it becaome less of an issue.

1:38 pm

Please ignore/translate typos.

1:39 pm

the phrase, 'the cow jumped over the moon' applies aptly ... they can clear a 4' fence no problem

1:39 pm

On FB I follow a guy in England who has a farm with goats and sheep and highland cows. The highland cows are really interesting. They stay outside year around, it is too warm for them inside. They also love to escape.

1:39 pm

once they broke a leg, did you have to put them down ? like a horse

1:39 pm

They can bsneaky.

1:40 pm

Be sneaky*

1:41 pm

I am not sure what the owner did. We called the vet and the owner. Never did hear how it all worked out, but the groundhogs had to go--quickly.

1:43 pm

Became a morning ritual--sip you morning coffee while looking through a scope at the fields.

1:44 pm

Namaste

1:44 pm

hi all. have ma8. help with other 8s please

1:44 pm

Howdy, Bzz. :)

1:45 pm

Don't firget to plural the cookie.

1:46 pm

Ihave ma8/9 and the 9 is the plural

1:48 pm

Just found an ma6 and ma7 that is a county in NC

1:48 pm

I have that too

1:48 pm

I can’t be

1:49 pm

I can’t believe Babble doesn’t take the ma7 that is a French confection. Pretty common word I’d think.

1:49 pm

Enable is a mystery.

1:50 pm

Yet it take three different words for a needlecase. Go figure.

1:51 pm

Eye roll

1:51 pm

do you mean the ma6 and ma7 that is the French President? A county in (various states) is ma5 and ma6, I think.

1:51 pm

Ty, rbud.

1:54 pm

Rbud noit is another word, very close to the French president but with an extra “a”

1:54 pm

It is a meringue based confection

1:55 pm

Anyway, another Enable mystery

1:56 pm

rehi

1:56 pm

It is too bad that another dictionary cannot be dumped into Babble, but it is the curse we live with.

1:56 pm

Wb, mool.

1:56 pm

oh, I was surprised it didn't take that, either, swmbo, just like the ma8 and ma9 with one less O?

1:57 pm

Exactly

2:00 pm

hello again - another chore accomplished

2:00 pm

Yaa!

2:03 pm

As I get older, I find that it is best for me to think of only one chore at a time--finish it, then think of another one, then do that. These days, if you gave me a list of chores I would immediately become overwhemed and just play Babble instead. :)

2:04 pm

Haha. I love retirement, there is always tomorrow to do whatever if you don’t feel like doing it today

2:04 pm

like crossy idea of play .. off to school p/u ttfn

2:05 pm

i hope i live long enough to retire

2:05 pm

I was surprised - other than the dishwasher pucks (don't know if any are made here or not) there was only one of my favourite things to buy that is made in the usa -- trying the canadian produced parmesan chicken instead :)

2:06 pm

I have been trying to do that too.

2:07 pm

I made it a point to retire, since on the men side of the family my dad lasted the longest at 74. I have no intententions of working until 70, then dropping dead a year later.

2:08 pm

the way I feel swmbo is that as long as we have a weak lily-livered pm, canadians have to stand up and make their feelings known every way we can.

2:09 pm

We are doing the same, cybernan, buying Canadian as much as possible.

2:09 pm

thanks crossy, sorry got a work call just after I rejoined :)

2:10 pm

Np :)

2:10 pm

the one good think hat has come out of all this is that our military is being beefed up along the border - now if we could just do the same in the north.

2:10 pm

True we do have to stand together. I was so pleased with the statement of 5 former PMs who released a joint statement for unity. Different parties but ONE Canada. Don’t forget to fly your flag on Saturday.

2:11 pm

I like the idea of interprovincial free trade --- I hope that comes to pass as well.

2:11 pm

Another unintended side effect of this is we are working on eliminated all inter-provincial trade barriers, and we are now making deals with the E.U for L.N.G sales.

2:11 pm

And yes, we certainly need to have much stronger protection in the North

2:12 pm

Snap

2:13 pm

Trump didn’t mean to, but he made us appreciate what we have and this will make us stringer

2:13 pm

I certainly think Canada will come out stronger and hopefully more politically aware.

2:13 pm

Stronger lol

2:13 pm

*Canadians more politically aware that is

2:14 pm

It has certainly been an eye-opener, and a reminder not to rely too much on a single country for trade.

2:15 pm

Exactly

2:15 pm

The only thing I miss is the citrus fruits and juices. At least here we can get local apple juice (mind you, sometimes it is fermented !)

2:16 pm

BC Tree Fruits certainly closed down at the wrong time.

2:16 pm

We are in an apple belt here. The availabilty of the fruit and juice is never an issue.

2:16 pm

We can get citrus fruits from Spain and some Central American countries

2:17 pm

We also get oranges from South Africa.

2:17 pm

Many of our apple orchards have been pulled up and replanted with grapes - more money there

2:17 pm

ours all seem to come from Florida

2:17 pm

We have lots of apples here in NS

2:18 pm

We’ll send you our apples Nan!

2:19 pm

Well, I gotta go. Not finished, but half way. Maybe bbl

2:19 pm

Tc, swmbo.

2:19 pm

We have apples, but when BC TRee Fruits closed, the growers lost their biggest customer and their cold storage facilities.

2:19 pm

US is the biggest importer of orange in the world it appears :)

2:20 pm

Stores here could import and sell apples from WAshington state cheaper than we could produce them.

2:21 pm

Even the tetra packs of juice we are buying Canadian. The "Oasis" brand is Canadian.

2:22 pm

but anything citrus is imported even though it is packaged here. There is a big difference between "made in CAnada" and "produced in Canada"

2:24 pm

There is. Made in canada only has to have just over 50% canadian content. Product of canada has to hit 98%

2:24 pm

But at least we can keep Canadians working packing it.

2:28 pm

Take Lays chips, an American head office whose profuct is packaged in Canada, so many people are now chosing Old Dutch chips, and other small Canadian chip makers.

2:29 pm

There is also an east coast brand of chip whose name escapes me now.

2:30 pm

Might be "O'Gradys."

2:30 pm

how is it that a spanish house is accepted but a french one isn't?

2:30 pm

Enable is being a pain today.

2:33 pm

off for lunch before I list.

2:37 pm

Doing my homemade pulled pork today. :)

yum, I'll be right up

never thought about it either way

but the porsche in the grid is the macan

3:02 pm

i don't think i knew about that one

it's newer I think

3:02 pm

nor did I

3:02 pm

the only porsche knowledge i have basically comes from top gear/the grand tour

suv smaller than the cayenne

3:03 pm

I believe Porsche was a designer for VW, and ended up creating his own brand

3:03 pm

ttfn

3:03 pm

i thought it was the other way around, that VW spun off from porsche

3:03 pm

apparently porsche scotch bonnet not as catchy

2014 in US per google AI

3:04 pm

i was just reading something the other day about the roles various companies played in WWII

3:04 pm

you could be right hursh

like were they nazis or not?

well, these sumo mandarins are pretty, pretty good. I am not eating the moldy one

3:05 pm

probably a good decision

3:05 pm

questionable whether there'd be enough penicillin in there to combat everything else :)

3:06 pm

Wow, big changes going. Apparantly we just cancelled a $100 million dollar deal with Starlink, and as of today, American businesses can no longer obtain Canadian government contracts.

3:07 pm

The Starlink thing I think surfaced a week or two ago

3:07 pm

I wonder if we could secede and join Canada ;)

3:08 pm

There's already a petition in Denmark to buy California

3:08 pm

I am a bit slow catching up sometimes, mool.:)

3:09 pm

no worries, I study news once a week for my trivia, otherwise...

lol

I mean, it's a smart thing to do - I just have never known anyone that does that.

3:09 pm

Of course Trump wants this--everyone off guard and everything in a frenzy.

3:10 pm

We are now waiting for his presser on "retaliatory tarrifs."

3:11 pm

well it's not like I take notes or anything

3:12 pm

the whole lot of them are in a frenzy of taking us down the tube as quick as possible .. does he want to bankrupt this country like he did his businesses ... wonder whom the buyer would be at a fire sale price

I'm sure you write it all on your forearm

3:13 pm

tattoos

3:13 pm

We would like Maine, I think. :)

3:13 pm

Maine is a bit of an odd state

I mean, think about Pen! ;P

3:14 pm

heh

3:14 pm

Well, we don't want Florida--that is just where we go to die.

3:15 pm

have you seen the proposed bill to authorize Trump to negotiate to buy Greenland and rename it Red White and Blue land?

3:15 pm

The elephats graveyard, but for Canadians. :)

3:15 pm

Good grief.

3:15 pm

I lived 6 or 7 years in Florida

3:16 pm

Wow. Fascinating to observe the chat here, from both the US & Canadian perspective, regarding Mr Trump. Most right-thinking Europeans think he is as mad as a hatter & a genuine threat to world peace.

3:16 pm

He is very, very dangerous, Soodles.

I think he's a complete nutjob. I have not seen the proposed bill moo is referring to but I'm wondering why this matter would take precedence over real, important things.

3:17 pm

kind of like giving a toddler the keys to drive that heavy machinery

3:17 pm

Buddy Carter, a rep from GA proposed it Hoke

3:17 pm

It is kind of like giving your ten years old a computer and your credit card.

3:18 pm

credit cards have spending limits tho crossy :)

3:18 pm

O.K, your Amex Black credit card.

3:19 pm

I don't happen to have one of those :)

3:19 pm

Not many people do. :)

3:20 pm

I can't wait to see all the fraud that Big Balls uncovers

it was fine, kinda muddy. we don't have sidewalks.

4:39 pm

ah

and we've had a lot of rain

4:40 pm

yeah, we have a lot of clay here, so if it's not dry or frozen...I don't walk on it...otherwise I end up with mud shoes

did some shopping south of asheville after my dentist appt and there were a lot of creeks out of their banks

4:41 pm

4:49 pm

not plurals.

4:51 pm

4:51 pm

4:52 pm

Any help for the ur 8 welcome.

4:55 pm

ur + blood sucking insect consumed food ;)

4:55 pm

actually it's an arachnid, not an insect

did I tell you all we got 7 or 8 of those off of winston in FL last week or whenever I was there?

none of them had attached yet, just crawling around on his head.

4:56 pm

oh yeah? I don't think I've seen a single one in all my years in Florida...but saw plenty in PA :)

I guess they have a year-round season there

4:57 pm

yeah, most likely

winston's been to FL many times and that's the first time I've found any on him

and it was at 3 different state parks, though the 2nd SP I found it the day we arrived, so it could've been from the first one.

4:58 pm

ah

4:58 pm

where in FL did you go?

but the 3rd SP def had them too

first stop was Santos SP in Ocala, then Tomoka at Ormond Beach, then Ft. Clinch on Amelia Island.

5:00 pm

very nnice

yeah, all very nice. first one is at the cross FL greenway and has a lot of mtb trails. other two have the live oaks with spanish moss that I love.

5:02 pm

5:02 pm

Lot of that in FL :)

yep

5:02 pm

were the squitos bad?

and GA and SC along the c5

5:03 pm

yeah, I've done a bit around Savannah and Hilton Head

no, we were afraid the no-see-ums might be, but didn't have any bug problems besides the blood suckers

and we saw a submarine and a rocket launch from ft. clinch

5:04 pm

yeah, I once when camping at Flamingo in January, and they were brutal, but that cold front may have cleared some of them out

5:04 pm

I've driven up to Kennedy, but never went in

yeah, we went to a campground between Naples and Marco Is once the week after xmas and the noseeums destroyed us

5:05 pm

yeah, a lot of standing water in that area

5:05 pm

well i thank ye for the clues for the 8s but i had thought mu8 was gonna be plural of mu7 and now idk what mu7 can be

5:06 pm

ohhh i got it!

5:06 pm

I don't know about this S either

5:06 pm

5:10 pm

I now have 3 grayed (by me) tiles :D

5:11 pm

well that hi7 is not a regular word

5:11 pm

0-0-1-1

5:12 pm

no, the one i was missing was the 8, lol

just found 2 incredibly regular h4

5:12 pm

yeah, I was missing the 8 too

5:12 pm

tameric - a much milder version of turmeric

5:16 pm

okay, these last two are not appearing magically

5:16 pm

so I might go do something else

would you like to guess my top H so I can gray top row?

5:17 pm

funny you should ask that ;)

5:17 pm

maybe I'll throw you a bone

5:17 pm

I've seen it here but I don't know it

7:04 pm

guess I will give up on the hi and sa 7's

yeah, 7s are not my strong suit

feel like the 3rd letter has to be c on the s

7:11 pm

yes - ends with a heavy weight

thanks

7:13 pm
