it's been a bit of a struggle. Did not sit in a good chair at Caya's, severe back pain yesterday, it is slightly better this morning. Just in time for her diploma ceremony.
ugh. is it possible to use a cushion or something like to position your back better at the ceremony?
probably not. But the ceremony won't take that long. I just have to remember to bring a chair with arm rests to Caya's in future
hmmm. we use a folding canvas deck chair for me in situations like that. plus i find the seat on my wheelie walker is a good height for me.

i'm getting to the itchy stage of my FM cycle. i know it's a short drive, but it's driving nuts. EVERYTHING itches, and we are out in public i have to be very careful not to give into the urge.

well, I can usually remember the basics
I admire people who know a second language. Back in the dim, dark days of my secondary schooling, we were literally forced to learn French, but it is not like that these days. Sadly, I have forgotten most of it.
My mom spoke Spanish at home, because her grandma lived with them and never spoke English. She's now been studying Italian for 30 years. She's fluent. It's made her lose some of her Spanish. But she's 90, and still does a 2 hour lesson weekly.
yeah, I took 3 years of spanish in high school and then tried 3 or 4 times in my adult life to learn it. I can read it okay, but my brain is too slow for conversation.
my dad was fluent in spanish. he was a hillbilly from a farm- first in his family to go to college - and he decided to major in spanish. he taught it for probably 10 years but quit teaching a little after I was born.
There are a lot of spanish speakers here now. It would come in handy to know it better than I do.
during college in the 50s my dad spent a summer in cuba and another summer in mexico city. I think immersion is the way to do it.
I studied Spanish in high school and 3 semesters in colleg. The, I went to Israel and Hebrew took over.
Absolutely! I have a friend learning Portugese because she has a place in Lisbon. She changed the language on her computer and iphone to Portugese too.
there are quite a lot in Charlotte. one of the soccer moms offered to help me practice conversations and I froze up and couldn't get anything out.

i mean what is the point of having a Kindle then? if you have to have Wifi on all the time to use it? i currently leave Wifi off almost all of the time, because when you have it on, it runs the battery down so quickly. and what if you are somewhere without good wifi? now you can't read on your kindle at all? this is insane

Love my physical book collection for the reason given by hurshy. I feel like everything is getting transitioned to subscription based.
i use an Nook ereader...Once I download a book, I don't have to use wifi at all....And when I travel, I can stock up on a few books...and our library system offers ebooks...As I have gotten older, i like the lightweight ereader instead of a heavy book...

i am also a big re-reader and part of the reason i got the kindle was to save some of my physical copies of things from getting any more worn than they already were!

the announcement i read said that starting tomorrow you could no longer DOWNLOAD kindle books but had to read them in the cloud. which sounded to me like you'd have to be constantly connected to WiFi in order to read anything, which is bad if you go somewhere without WiFi, and also bad if you don't want your battery to run down. but apparently that isn't what it meant. all you cannot do will be to transfer content using a USB cord, which i didn't do anyway.
I read often at campgrounds without wifi so that would be bad.
but it just reminds you that like, amazon can change their policies anytime and so it makes me nervous, do i want to keep putting money into that or in future should i just stick with physical books for new purchases
It does make it a lot easier for Amazon to withdraw a book that you thought you "owned"

so just found other people online with missing music and apparently apple matches and replaces your CD mp3 files with their files and when you cancel the files are gone
