Good Morning sprite
hi Christa :)
fireflies. Have a lovely day, Christa. *poof*
Good morning, Babblers. :)
hello all
howdy folks
Good morning, hokie.
hey scrabs
What are your plans this weekend?
have te6 in a little while and then I will work on my niece's t-shirt quilt later.
walked 18 holes pushing my golf bag yesterday and I am sore!
what are you up to? cold up there?
My 12 year old great-nephew just started tennis lessons. I am so excited as I played since age 8 and played on my college team for 4 years.
that's cool!
23 degrees now. My 2 great-nephews are here to snowboard all weekend. With warm temps coming the resort will probably close in 1-2 weeks.
supposed to be 58 at 10 when I have tennis. the NC slopes are still open. I drove up to Va/Tn on Thu and the mountains were covered in snow. that reminds me, I need to add wash my car to my to-do list today.
phantom viking
I was making breakfast for the younger boy.
You live in AT territory. Have the trails opened from Helene damage?
they must love coming there - snowboarding and being taken care of ðŸ˜
I think there's a big section still closed but I see groups working on it on FB
They do love it here. Their own bedroom. Ski resort across the valley. Great park nearby.
I have hiked the AT in Shenandoah NP. It's beautiful down there.
Shenandoah is kinda far from anywhere I've lived. I did drive up into once after I dropped mr. homie off at the beginning of the Blue Ridge Parkway. He rode the whole thing on his bike.
BTW, still parts of that closed too. The amount of damage Helene caused is pretty staggering.
I was on the AT website a few weeks ago and saw a long closed section in NC.
My youngest sister will hike the AT in southern VA next month.
how is retired life for you scrabs
I mean, the flooding was terrible, but the amount of huge trees down is crazy. even in my neighborhood, the empty lots have huge trees down, so that's how the forests and trails are.
It's been 16 months, ruru, and I am still getting used to it. I totally enjoy being free but it is so strange to be free.
is she going through Damascus, scrabs? I know they got hit really hard but I haven't seen any AT updates about there. part of the Va Creeper Trail near there was obliterated.
yeah.. it's going to be challenging for me I think
I think they are starting in Wayneburg and going south.
I mean Waynesboro.
mr. homie was worried when he retired about being bored, but I told him he'd find plenty to do and he has.
I'm wrapping up my biz at the end of the year. I'm kind of excited about it
I am not bored. I read, hike, snowshoe, XC ski, go jigsaw puzzles. It is so odd to not be stressed and exhausted after decades.
Good for you, ruru. You have earned retirement. That's what I tell myself.
morning. almost hokies
it's hard for me to stop I have the best job in the world
Hi Owl
then why stop?
I'm planning to just work part time for an importer. It's easy work and it pays a lot of money and I love the wines. California has instituted some stupid wine laws that I don't want to constantly do reporting to the state any more.
sound plan.
it's such a personal decision and not a straight path, this retirement thing.
hey TO, I hadn't even noticed HOKIE there
I know .. I've been working since I was 13 it'd be weird to stop
nearly
no, hokie is actually there
well so it is
was looking down
yep, sometimes gotta go up (I tell myself this all the time)
i retired young and now finding it's time to reassess
well, I have 26 left but only found 1 E on the 2nd row
some people should never retire- unless/until forced to.
I'm hoping that working Tuesday thru Thursday will give me a lot more time off and I can stall complete shut down a while longer
i had interests before retirement that i devote more time to. and picked up a few along the way
oh .. i'm going to volunteer some and take boating lessons and kayaking lessons
but things change. a dance friend went to the gym last week, lay down for a rest before going out to dinner, and never woke up. no history, just gone.
but she never put off living all through her life. i so admire that she never waited to do what she wanted to do.
that's what I'm worried about.. I do want to accomplish some things in my retirement
I left the business world to be a stay at home mom and had a network of other moms, but then I moved here. most everyone is retired but they're all 10+ years older than me.
sorry about your friend, TO
mr homie is a lot older than you hookie?
and you cannot relate/
no, he is 2 years older, but he retired at 42
wow.. how'd he do that?
i see old workmates but most are all into the grand kids thing. and would never consider just heading to the city for a concert or event.
he put in 20 years and they said he could 😆. but we've had rental houses he's been managing, so he doesn't like to say he retired.
well, I for one am traveling a lot throughout the year
so hokie, interested...you cannot relate, age, interests?
just a different generation. like I start singing 80s/90s song and they have no idea. and they all have grandkids, etc.
they are boomers (don't mean that in a neg way) and I am gen x, and it's just different.
i am so lucky to be part of a music community where all that is shared across generations. thank you for your comment,
we were just discussing that yesterday while working at the noon concert.
lol, you will like this...there is music bingo every so often and the newest they play is 80s stuff. the whole first category was like 50s music. even some of the people at my table were like, how old do they think we are?
we definitely have different point of view but music brings us together.
omg i know, sometimes when i go to balance class orhave a senior event they play all sinatra and the like.
last time I sat with some tennis friends, and a couple of them are in their 70s, so it was actually a nice mix of ages to know all the songs
An older friend, to be 80 soon, once asked me if I listed to showtunes. Uh, no.
but at boom class she plays a lot of disco. that is always fun and great tempo for exercise.
lol scrabs. i just saw come from away and thought enjoyed it felt a bit like that.
I listen to alternative rock mostly, and 80's-90's music.
one time when I was at the wellness center every day for a week, they were playing 40s music the whole week. come on.
just saw the actor michael shannon with r.e.m tribute. he totally channels michael stipe. who knew?
I listen to mostly 80s and 90s as well, some 00s, across several different genres, but 90s is prob my favorite decade across genres.
I don't listen to all that much music really.. I tend to like quiet around the house
I saw photos of him, Owl.
oh, just realized the time. I should probably get out of my PJs for te6.
I passed halfway so I am done. I have to feed the boys and get them ready for snowboarding.
and i should probably make this couscous salad so i can run to the store for an alternative if it bombs.
sometimes i like talk radio npr and sometimes quiet.
i looked in 6 stores for israeli couscous so i'd better make the effort.
couscous salad with lemon and english cucumber and feta
that's an easy salad.. do the feta at the end
debating because lots of vegans
about feta
but saw one on the box that looked better with walnuts and cranberry, couscous cooked with consomme
oh skip the feta then
i am so squeamish about pot lucks especially since i once volunteered to be a table tender. i don't think i've ever eaten an entree at one since then
i do a variation of that salad and add fennel with the cukes and lemon dressing
fronds or chopped raw\
sliced thinly and steamed for one minute then put in an ice bath to stay crisper and lightly salted
recently made sausage and peppers with fennel and ziti and it was so good. nutrient dense. i love raw fennel.
it's vegan.. I had to cook for a vegan for a few weeks to help her
thanks for the info will try.
fennel and cucumber are a great match
not hard to make vegan but many also gluten free. it boggles the mind because i can eat anything.
actually some vegan cooking is a pain in the ass. believe me
finding the ingredients can be challenging
so a lemon and olive oil dressing with a bit of garlic will work? since i am of a mind that hot things shouls be eaten hot - like pasta- i am skeptical.
I don't use garlic ... everything else is so delicate
you could add a touch of fresh thyme to liven it up
depends. i just told someone to saute yelow and green squash, add diced tomatoes with basil oregano garlic, and add to linguine aglio olio. great vegan meal
thyme and lemon dressings are really good
just a bit of granulated, garlic should be sparing unless it's the feature flavor
that's ok.. that's milder than fresh garlic
now aglio olio...love it
I agree saanich
but it seemed as if there would not be much taste besides lemon as written. i think it calls for a bit of parsley
yeah.. it's a delicate salad you want to taste the cucumbers
was looking for something that needed neither heat nor refrigeration
i will put link in profile if anyone wishes it
that's a good salad.. goes with everything
last time i made caprese skewers and i ate most ofthem
I made a Mediterranean salad a few weeks ago and there wasn't a tiny piece left..
I can't find my last two words damn it
i was the buffet tender once time and was cleaning up dishes and someone yelled at me because there were a couple of spoonfuls of food in their vessel and i had emptied it and washed it they wanted to take it home.
if it's baked goods i will eat it. i need to lose 10 lbs
what is in med salad?
recipe for salad says the israeli couscous is toasted so the cucumbers will not lose crispness
oh heck got to run late for something
will look for reply later
olives, lettuce, radicchio, chopped english cukes, three colors peppers
great dressing too
'morning, kids
hi welks
i guess no more trips to arizona for you?
h'lo all
i think we'll be back next year
for sure, nothing is certain - we'll pack up and leave, and if we need to take a year off, we can do that. i have neighbors who, if things really go sideways, can sell our rig and sxs for us
hi, hursh
hey look, hokie in the grid
i could go for a phantom knish right about now
good news - you can have a phantom knish any time you want!
and no calories!
indeed
top row grey!
gotta love enable, another foreign coin-pf 7
oh dear
ooh...that's actually one i know....German coin....hello all....
hi pen
hi luv....
good grief on this E... got two mushroom words and the volcano and then stumped
those are the only ones i have from the upper E...
oh there's another one, ei5/18
ah yes...ty...
there is also another en 6/7 combo....
oh and ei7 and 8 - more German for ya pen
danke... ;o)
and danke to you, too. between us we got them all!
phantom: knit
2nd row grey!
thank goodness for enable to help me with that pf7
two years of German in college.... ;o)
i did classical Greek - which actually comes in handy a fair amount in this game
i bet!
phantom: pennies
don't need them...we have pf 7.... ;o)
haha
but i still need five more P words, so...
Good morning, hurshy and pen.
one little p word in a jar doesn't really go too far
morning bea!
hi Bea...
Thanks to you both for the German words.
yw...
yw
phantom: lipid
Weird story about Gene Hackman.
very
yes...
Leave it to someone who plays this game to know the pf7.
:oD....my brother was stationed in Germany, too....so I visited him three times....spent a lot of pf7s there!
Oh! Thanks!
oh, that wasn't one of the ones you were thanking us for earlier?
ok, i need 5 P, 4 S, and a D, and one of them is an 8
No, I was thinking of the E words.
i just figured you had gone back far enough and got the ei words and the pf
I don go back looking for words. Too tedious
3 P 2 S 1 D
The D has your 8
oh, how unexpected!
haha i just realized i said enable earlier when i meant morewords, regarding the pf7
had to use MW to get de8 too
well i am down to 25....time for a break....bye all....
you know, i've noticed that with spelling bee, the phenomenon of going away and coming back and then boom you see the pangram is very strong
like your subconscious just keeps working on it in the background
it's pretty cool
good morning everyone :) How about a clue for that de 8 please?
de8 is to terminate
ty bea - nothing coming to mind at the moment. Sounds like there are a few foreign words in this one again.
The de8 is not a commonly used word
3
Namaste
actually, de8 means terminal, as in the last line of a verse, or the last syllable of a word
But, as Molly says, not a common word
rehi people
de8, pf7??, I have a lot to make up
doesn't take "gonna"!
last 25 is terrible for me. 3-7-7-5-3
I did not try gonna today because I remembered even though they have a bazillion BS words, that is not one.
I'm down to 15, but I went to the list at 23
and fw - lots of weird ones
well done
hi again
wd gillie
hokie you get a tiara!
I know! TO thought it was just a phantom but I hadn't even noticed until she said that.
3 left - the ei 7-8 and the pf 7 - done for the day
so how many ei words are there? I found ei7/8 but only have 3 e's
hagd everyone and happy tiara day, carla
thanks, nan. you have a good one.
there's also ei5/18
two pairs of EN words
got the 5, thx
so finally HOET
shouldn't have sat down on the couch when I got back from te6. now I can't get up.
hi all
who else thinks they are covering up the Gene hackman death? She gets some sickness that only 17 people had last year. they have her running errands ours before she DROPPED dead but they said she would have been REALLY sick for 24-48hrs. And if he is in such bad shape with alzismers, that he didn't even realize his wife (or anyone) was dead for 7 days? wouldn't he have a nurse during the day at least? and the dog wasn't whining? Nope. This does NOT look like a duck.
One of his kids said last week that Gene Hackman was in good health, and doing pilates and yoga twice a week. The fact that nobody noticed they weren't texting, calling or going anywhere for so many days is what is stumping me.
sled
me too nrkii
sorry, I am trying to get everything clean while hubby is out today. we live in a 5th wheel and it is impossible to do the floors while we are both here. and the laundry, and the small repairs, and and. lol
tx molly
I am now running rosy (Irobot) until her basket is empty.
spin
sorry
I do not see a conspiracy in it, but I do think it's sad no one checked on them or noticed they were incommunicado, not even a mailman.
I think it's plausible the wife was his only caregiver if he was fine except the memory
that is the conspiracy, isn't it? if he was VERY SICK, there would have been a nurse. and if she was VERY SICK, she would not have been running errors with no one noticing how sick she look.
the cops are making a big deal of how bad he was.
that he probably didn't even notice his wife on the floor for 7 days!
please don't take the UPPERCASE as me screaming AT you. I am just bolding what has been said. not disrespect meant.
I'm inclined to believe the medical report. Hanta virus is not uncommon in New Mexico and the West in general. Also, my husband died of advanced dementia in August. I lived in fear of something like this happening. Had it been me, my husband would of course have noticed my body, but he would be no longer knew how to use the phone or even what the phone was for. It does appear that he was trying to leave the house, possibly for help. It is tragic and haunting.
my dad had dementia with Parkinsons and my mom was his caregiver. my brother lived 2 miles away and came and helped but if he didn't it very well could've happened that way. he would not have known how to use the phone to call for help. and like miranda said, I have heard that hanta is more common in the west, and I think the bad symptoms come on pretty quick, so she probably just thought she had a cold.
what on earth would be the point of a conspiracy in this case?
what are they covering up?
carla!
TO!
omg just cleaning up the kitchen but the creation probably won't kill anyone and may even be edible.
always a plus
no dishwasher. tiny counter space. time to move.
I still need to wash my car
but a mess1 i am so awkward in the kitchen now
i am washing up a colander, two pots, three bowls . measuring stuff, juicer, final resting place container...
lemon zester...knives...
mr. homie always complains about how many things I dirty when cooking. definitely glad to have a dishwasher.
if you make the couscous ahead it clumps so not an option. it clumped whilst preparing the other stuff
I cannot eat the couscous so I don't make the couscous
too much prep to do all whilst it's cooking. next time begin with choppiing the cucumber and parsley
oh yeah cause it's wheat
yep
i thought about farro but i don't like the texture.
now quinoa I can eat
quinoa is great
I don'tthink I can do farro either
another optio but thiws is a budget -and weight-friendly option
will be lots of people, the trick is to make enough to be decent but not to feed 100
i mean, there's one guy who always just brings a rotisserie chicken. and it's well received. and one who makes authentic jambalaya. he's from baton rouge.
winston has come over whining so I guess I'll BBL
aw a pat on the head for winston and ;ater
Anyone who brings New Orleans style jambalaya is a good guest to have. What is this? A pot luck?
god bless aldi - found everything but te couscous there and half the cost of the market
yes. there will be friends but also paying neighborhood guests. late mardi gras dance live band.
Paying guests? At your home?
who knew aldi had fresh- and i do mean FRESH- parsley in manageable size/
no. at the irish center
Never heard of couscous for Mardi Gras.
pot luck not specific. made lemon cousous feta cucumber salad. lots of vegetarians in the community
we get tons of king cakes and also not enough facility to bring a ton of crockpots etc
bet you never heard of irish mardi gras either :D
but srsly aldi...
Ive been making potluck dinners with Hearts of Palm pasta and everyone loves it. Lasagna, seafood linguine, and next will be spaghetti with Alfredo.
for how many/
6-13. it just depends. we do it every Friday. except during Lent
they gave up Friday dinner and do it on Thursday. lol
h dear, molly seems to have been suddenly called away
this will be at 80-100 + and open to the public. when i attend a smaller gathering, i have more options.
only a few electrical outlets in the auditorium
and that jambalaya definitely gets one
i, however, will eat beforehand and graze the desserts
but the salad turned out okay. i may make a bit more dressing and add at the event
No, was I supposed to respond to something?
maybe...perhaps chuckle at irish mardi gras. :D
Sounds like a confusing event with a lot of weird food and music combinations.
gues it's confusing if not part of it. just a zydeco dance with a live zydeco band. we do it every month but this is celebrating mardi gras hence adding the dinner. no way to get a real band from louisiana before ash wednesday. they are all playing locally. the irish club is the best facility large enough to hold the crowd for a special dance event like this.
it's a lot of fun.
hi all. ho6 pleae
Goose sound plus two vowels
ty Molly
ty molly
hubby just got home. I have been cleaning the carpets, washing all the linens (including the dog stuff), and washing the floors. not using bleach. he walked in and said "smells like Clorox. you've been cleaning.". WTF. I know his heart, but sometime his mouth gets me so pissed.
I really think, he thinks it was a compliment.
perhaps he equated clean with bleach, maybe that's how his family did?
yea, but you would think that after 15yrs, he would know differently.
it
funny how that works.
gotta love him.
:)
this nonfunctioning shift key is getting me down, gonna try to set it right. bye
bye
ok. If Gene was so bad off, then she would not have left him alone to go shopping. and they know she did by her phone.
Any clues pls for the de8
Wow Sue, you are really hung up on this Hackman thing.
I am fascinated

Clue pls for the de8
it's one of my 11 missing words...
didn't you get sent to jail if you said a word that is in the grid?
me too
Jail?
yes, it was being sent to the Penalty Box or PB....personally, I never thought that was a good idea since it was equivalent to giving a gratuitous clue...
it was where you would bring donuts to and coffee for everyone who did the same thing
like if you say "I went to the list" and the word list was in the grid
you had to say "I went to the li**.
it was a fun way to say ooops
read my post... ;o)
that it!!!! ty Pen. it has been driving me bonkers.
