i was living in san jose and, i mean, coming from new england, everyone always says like, Massachusetts drivers are terrible and all that, and i thought the freeways around san jose were so much scarier

i lived on the western end of san jose and had a job interview on the eastern end at one point. i took the freeway across town and when i got off, i was like "i'm still alive! i'm still alive!" and i thought if i took that job, i would have to make up my mind to take other roads, even though it would take twice as long to get there, because i simply could not cope with the intensity of that stress on a daily basis
not like boston drivers are the most polite people in the world though

yeah but there's rudeness and then there's recklessness. i think at most 1 in 10 drivers in new england are reckless, whereas in san jose it felt like 7 or 8 out of 10 were.
if you saw some of the crap that i see in the south bay you'd never drive again in california
I blame a lot of it on foreign people who come to this country and don't learn how to drive properly.
there was at one point a guy who jumped off an overpass into traffic. the people whose cars hit him didn't even stop. which is crazy because he jumped in front of you to kill himself, that's clearly not your fault, if you just stop, you won't be in trouble. but if you don't stop and they find you, you WILL be in trouble.

were living near and had created their dream business. they are also feeling the separation and stress of business and so i visit them regularly and hear the update on how things are going. you know, sprite, i trained to be a counselor.

i enjoy the company. they shared a big booking with me this week, i am happy for them.

Sorry...wandered off. If you turn it right side up, it's a watercolor of me and my husband. We went to a wedding and they had someone there who did watercolors of everyone. Really neat. And NO IDEA why that sucker turns sideways on here.
It is the image site you use to upload icons. I recommend irfanview.com. It gives you the options to resize and rotate before you upload. It never ceases to amaze me what people spend money on for weddings.
It wasn't sideways until it uploaded here! When I uploaded it, it was straight up and down. But then it turned.
Don't get me started on weddings. In the midst of it now with my youngest. I'm holding the line, but it would be pretty damn easy to go overboard.
One of the gals at a venue told me, "This is the only time you start hearing people say, 'It's only $1000' . It's crazy out there!
I don't envy you. I wouldn't want to be helping a child plan a wedding these days. It's the destination weddings that really freak me out. Please come to our wedding and oh, spend $5,000 to get there.
Yeah, but that saves whoever's paying, because there are less attendees. My "problem" is that her fiance has a huge family that all live here, and are very close. I'm limiting it to 150, and they're welcome to pay for anything over that.

my niece got married last october. small but she got a bit frazzled over all the details. a planner was not in the fiancial plan because they really wanted a house.
they married on sunday and closed on their house the friday after. crazy kids!
My DIL and her mom got all wrapped up in that with my son's wedding. Pinterest makes people go crazy!

The bride at this wedding is a photographer. So she's seen all the things. And wanted the artist, and a great DJ (there were 2 and they were awesome) some light up "crowns", and light up things that looked like pool noodles with lights inside.
until i got the bill
I'm really lucky to be living here - the best of all worlds: a single home within a gated community that has at least one big social event each month with other weekly events as well.

My daughter doesn't care about the cake. It's likely to be little donuts that come with different choices of stuff you can sprinkle over them. Pieces of HEAVEN, I tell you! And I don't care for donuts. But these were almost like beignets...really good.
and now you have to have engagement photo shoots as well. but i will say the photos are fantastic.
Nan, that's a goal for me! Can't wait to be able to move to hopefully an over 55 community with fun people like you!

Exactly. This wedding had a 6" cake with "Just Married", and then cupcakes and cookies for the actual dessert. BBQ for the food, because...Texas.

I was asked to do one recently, but I really didn't know the groom, and they don't live close by. Would've been hard to get to know each other prior. They had someone else get ordained for it.
i have a musician friend who is a pastor and also hires out to do ceremonies. he is great, humorous, personalizes each one by sitting down with each separaately beforehand.

Irish twins comes from the idea that a woman who had a baby and breast fed for the traditional 6 to 9 months had another child soon after that. (Breastfeeding ceases menstruation and does not allow pregnancy). Irish people (most devout Catholics) do not practice birth control.
TO, my mom and dad's first 3 kids were basically "Irish triplets"... We always just considered it part of the territory of being Catholic in the 60's. But my mom also used to say that my dad couild walk in the door and say hello and she'd get pregnant.
I don't think she knew I was listening when she said that.

My mom had 2 kids in diapers and basically no room to wallow... she lost 2 babies after I was born, and the second loss would have finished her but I was only 3 so she again had no room to get depressed (not that it's really a choice, but she saw it that way)

Some people are really fertile. Mom popped all three of out in a row, but my youngest bro had the Rh factor. Blood transfusion in the hospital. She stopped after that. They didn't have a workaround for it at the time, and she didn't want to risk it. Made dad get a vasectomy.
Considering the things that were not known about childbirth "back in the day", it is a wonder any of us were born. I was breech with the cord wrapped around my neck. Tried to hang myself at birth.
My mom got a priest to tell her it was okay to use contraception "as long as it was to control her cycle". Such a ridiculous time. Every one of the 3 babies she lost was a unique and scary tragedy that would not be so today. The last was an ectopic pregnancy that almost killed her. She told the surgeon that while he was tieing off one tube, he could just go ahead and tie the other. They wouldn't do it unless my dad consented, so she called him and told him to get his butt to the hospital to sign.
I read that Rosemary Kennedy's mental disabilities came from lack of oxygen at birth because the doctor was running late and the nurse on duty pushed the baby back up the birth canal and told the mother to cross her legs and "hold it"
Exactly!!! My mom tried birth control, but the guilt was too much for her.
And now, it's amazing the babies they can and do save. HUGE difference in our generation alone.

Happy to report the pepperoni pizzas with no pepperoni have been delivered & are being consumed. For the time being, all is calm, all is quiet. We are watching The Wizard of Oz, ( fast forwarding through the scary bits) & even the 4 month old seems to be enjoying herself.
