I just returned from a hiking trip in the Catskill Mountains. We had 3 tough hikes. Getting my body uphill is not easy.

Our provincial parks make for a nice, but starting in june until mid-august the deer flies and hirse flies will drive you out of the bush.

We encountered black flies a few days ago. They have hatched.
The deer flies take chunks when they bite. The only way to hike when they are active is to wear long pants, long sleeved shirt, hat, and apply a ton of Deep Wood Off with a scary DEET content.
Also, you dont bathe ir wear any scent for at least 24 hours before going in, or they will eat you for breakfast, that, and under no circumstances do you wear anything that is yellow. :/

i was interested in moving to maine at one time, till the no see ums left a line of welts across my backside ... a family member would only go out w/ a pitt helmet and netting, gloves, i decided to stay in PA
we watch this canadian canoeer on youtube and he did a big trip in the arctic circle. the flies were so horrible he had trouble eating when he had to lift his bug netting up.
sadly, no-see-ums are everywhere. my kids got demolished in naples, FL, one winter. we have them here occasionally in SC. they like sandy places after rains.
we are going to MI UP this summer and have already bought long clothes. the biting flies are supposed to be bad there.
at the NJ beaches i used to get hit on by horse flies ... i stayed in the water
yeah, we were riding bikes on a NC beach once and it wasn't horse flies, but something else and it didn't matter that I was riding a bike as fast as I could to get away, they were biting me through my shorts. they didn't bother mr. homie one bit. they were all after me.
we just have regular flies and mosquitos out here

Apparently, the Qatar jet (which is 13 years old with a $400 million list price) would require security upgrades costing as much as a $1 billion dollars, taking a number of years (probably not finished by the end of Trump's term), and then would to go Trump's presidential library for his personal use. It needs to be effectively dismantled and rebuilt to check it for listening devices and install upgrades required for Air Force One, as well as quarters for White House medical staff and the Secret Service. When donated to the presidential library, more work would probably be required to remove sensitive government equipment.
But Boeing should be happy, because they would get the contract to do the overhaul, and they are currently losing money on the Air Force One contract Trump negotiated with them the last time he was president. The only problem is that they are already having trouble hiring enough workers with the required security clearance.

My only real cousin, my soul-mate and fellow Dylan aficionado died yesterday from the return of an aggressive cancer. It was sudden- he had told me two weeks ago that he was given "weeks to months." He died at home with his family, with hospice care as he chose.
Don't do anything, just listen to some Dylan. Especially the wildly creative breakout years.
