Greetings from New York
Aye. You arre in my time zone.
New York City. The place where there is too much, too much...as Pat Conroy says.
Having a great time
Which fine dining establishment are you going to drop thousands at Ru?
Doren and her daughter and I are going to a show and dinner at the View. Not too expensive
Then I fly home. Quick trip
Been here a few days. Decent weather thankfully
What show?
Hell’s Kitchen
I got great seats too
I just looked at The View menu. Definitely expensive. 34 dollars for a hamburger. Only in New York.
It could be worse
When we went down to T.O last month, we stayed at the Sheriden (sp) hotel right oposite city hall. The cheapest thig on the menu was bacon cheeseburgers with fries. After taxes we spent $75!! Though it did come in a fancy bag and all the condiments were in little glass bottles.
In Canada tax was probably 50% of the bill.
15%
Overall when factoring in everything, we only pay 2% more taxes than the average american. (Depending on which state)
The talking heads on many U.S news programs love to make it sound like we are taxed to death so nobody asks for universal heathcare. :)
This year, for the first time, we also have universal dental care. My beloved just got her card in the mail two days ago. :)
$14 for a burger is about right here. even red robin.
I paid $15 for a burger yesterday. It was delicious!
Interesting math considering the nationwide population-weighted average combined state and local sales tax rate is currently 7.52% in the US.
Here an average take out baconburger and fries runs about $18
was speaking with a food pantry client who is a waitress...as prices rise, less diners, less tips. very hard since she had 7 kids, four adopted.
Reaseatch it in depthat your leasure, Molly
Research it at your leisure, molly. The numbers are out there.
she and her husband both work, but his hours were cut because of slow business.
I don't have any interest in "free" health care that involves higher taxes, long waits for care and inferior medical care.
Lol, buying the stories, I see.
When I had my cancers, I waited for nothing, got fast care, and paid zero.
No, it is not free, yes, it has issues, but it works.
I would not be alive today without it.
thank goodness for a small grid. happy babbling
Unless you have used universal healthcare don't judge it on the biased reporting of others. Not, it is not perfect, but EVERYONE gets healthcare witho
O.K, climbing off my soapbox.
My opinions are based on information from Canadians, not "stories".
look: people love their countries. if they did not they would migrate. just leave it at that
do 5/16, pls
Fair enough, but until you have persnally experienced universal healthcare, don't tell me that it is "substandard."
Or "inferior."
There is a reason that many other countries have it as well.
I was diagnosed on a Monday by my family doctor, he picked up the phone and called his oncologist friend, I saw him on Wednesday, and I was on the operating table by Friday. I waited for nothing. We operate on a triage system, and it works. Sometimes we wait for other thigs, but it is a triage system.
a knee repacement, for example, may take six to eight months.
But, you are unlikely to die while you wait. It is all based on those whose need is the most extreme gets if first.
Next time I see someone from the U.S buying their epi-pens and other meds here, I will be sure to ask them about their thoughts on it all. I shall leave it at that. Sorry for hogging the chog.
good morning everyone
Good morning, Cybernan. :)

I agree with crossy on the healthcare issue. My granadaughter was diagnosed and had surgery within a week. After an appointment with my doctor I had a CT scan within 3 weeks.
Same here in Ontario. We can usually get a CT within two to three week based on severity of the issue.
Don't believe what you hear on American news, Molly -- I suspect most of it is directed by your government -- at least how much of the news is allowed to be published that is.
remember cupie dolls? apparently enable doesn't
When my sister was young she started getting headaches so bad she was howling in oain and getting nosebleeds. She got a CT same day.
