Yep. Geocaching is the next big thing and it makes sense to double them up. I like the wild-card aspect of letterboxing when you realize you are on the hunt for something that the person who placed it was completely unable to properly articulate....

I was surprised today (and disappointed) that I didn't find a poppy anywhere all day. But there was an exceptional fireworks display tonight.

The other thing I like to do is view the stat grid and if a letter has only one word associated with it, I try to find it first -- watching the grid go grey feels so satisfying :)

I hardly ever use Brandyjack's list, though I love some clues that give 2nd letters when I get stuck. And yes, zubie, the stats panel makes a difference, because it shows how many words start from a specific tile. I would really have like it if the stats for pro would have been the word/letter count type.
mab - your comment is very interesting...I wondered when I was younger if the interest in Armistice Day (our name for Veterans Day) would fade over time. My parents actually remembered living through WWII, including bombs dropping on my home town. But even though many of that generation are now sady gone, the sentiment still seems very strong here, not least because we've had troops in action more recently.

I think, Sherb, that the dwindling of the WWII generation is a factor, although there is still a handful of WWI vets still living. Everything here is so heavily politicized, especially, in my opinion, since the current administration has been in office. For example, the president's speech today was an angry jab at the 'liberals,' rather than a thoughful reflection on the higher principles the day is designated for.

A friend of mine saw "Rent" last week and says it's really good...Don't know if making it for $50 million was a good idea though, as I think only people who know the play are going to be drawn to it. Though I think young kids/college kids might make it their generation's version of "Fame." Will be interesting to see. I'm going!

You are brilliant compared to me! I stumbled through a lot of grids before I even finished one. It was very quiet here too, then, a chatlog of 100 messages was huge. And we often didn't have stats, until more of us learned how to make them.

The thing I do find most annoying about the dictionary is the number of times I go to check the definition of a word I don't recognise and the dictionary has no def to offer!
You're welcome :) It happens to me every big grid. I force myself to check my own wordlist for forgotten or mistyped plurals, singulars, verb forms and such, and they are always there. (Or not there, more accurately.)

Well being elderly or needing a wheelchair - or bioth should have SOME benfits! If you've been patient enough to live for a long time -you should have the fun of jumping the queue! Had a fantastic grandmother - one of those ' very few made ' types and she gave us all a great respect for the elderly. Also did some nursing and was told by a ward sister - 'if you live to be as old as these people - you still won't know as much as them they've lived through 2 world wars' and she was right!
You bet! I kept expecting her to crumple but I think she was taken with Cute Wheelchair Guy and with leaving all those people in the dust (on their way to Hawaii, though, so they get the last laugh).

Benanial, only about 50% of any grid is in common usage. The rest are a little more esoteric lol. Have you tried noodling? One rule of Babble is that if it looks like a word, it probably is. Random typing helps. There are also plenty of clues about the log. Also, there is a 2nd letter breakdown that gives you the number or letters and the score for each word under the General thread on the Babblers Anonymous site (see bottom link, Friends of Babble, right) Keep at it and we will all throw out the occasional clue :)

hi again, old timer here who has gotten back in the game after not playing for months. Which means, back at that time, stats & clues were never given. Now that they are, I would like to know what your CLUE rules are. Meaning, how many times can I give out a clue if I know one of the big pts words? How often can you ask for clues. And I noticed someone earlier gave the link to the Babbelrs Anon forum w/ the daily stats on it ... so it is okay to give out stats (as a courtesy) to non-paying players etc. The rules seem to be different and I just want to make sure I am not breaking any as you all seem to get along so well. Clues are asked for and given as needed... although if a recent post is current refer to the post as sometimes it is a timing or cross posting that was delayed..... al I think is about normal....NO full words of course....LOL
The only rules I use are 1. don't give a clue unless someone asks. 2. don't make it too easy too early. 3. don't put any of the words in the log. Thanks for being considerate enough to ask!

If someone is new, it is best to direct them to the babs anon site rather than post long lists that will be asked for by numerous people throughout the day. Understand completely GG. Mine got hurt on the job 5 years ago and had to go back to school. Budget cuts have changed the job field completely during that time. Now we're rather stuck in the middle of nowhere and no jobs to be found!

Don't blame you at all for that GG!! We moved in the heat of the summer too. Complicated - but I sent by hubby off back in May to N.D. for a temp. job with the federal government. Then we went ahead and sold our house in Iowa. I packed most of our stuff and put it in storage. Took the essentials and moved in with my brother. Hubby is now done in N.D. and has joined us in M.O. Now, we wait. And wait. And wait. Thank God my brother is a doctor and has a huge house!!!

This is why I use tarot cards or the norse runes to give a person an unbiased snapshot of their life at that exact moment in time. I never promise what the future will hold. It's very unfortunate that you had that experience Torgone. Not what Sunday School for children should be. Like Smeltzie & GG said, Christianity is about love. We are all in the same boat here on this earth. I am thankful that I have had the experience and opportunity to worship freely and learn what I believe to be the truth of salvation.

The students I was dealing with wanted to be Wiccan and Christian. I did a little research and found that it's not possible. Only 6 of our "rules" (10 commandments) were compatable. In this counrty, Christianity is stagnant...in many other countries their relationships with Christ (I detest the word 'religion') are spreading throughout people groups like wild fire. I honestly believe that if people experienced the true love of Christ they wouldn't be able to say no.

That is very true, GW. We are all flawed. And Kirsten is right on, too. Misbehaving followers as well as misdirected leaders. I know many people who have left their church because of a certain pastor or priest. It's not the religion or church, it's just one person that turns them against the whole concept. Too much emphasis is put on man, man's ways, man's rules - and not enough on the Word and what it speaks to us.
personally, I think heaven and hell are right here on earth. If we do something bad, we live our own hell as we struggle with our consciences. Heaven is a clear conscience! (or so goes my latest thinking......) :D
I have to disagree with mama and GG...the old testament is a HUGE part of the Christian faith. If you get a chance read "Velvet Elvis" by Rob Bell.

GW and Mama: As usual, nice icon choices. I like my venus icon but I am thinking of switching. I just got home from a movie. It was a love story about a palestinian suicide bomber who falls in love with a lady who takes her car to his mechanic's shop. They fall in love and then he kills himself anyway. It didn't end on a high note. I am so bummed about the ending. I have to start watching more movies with britney spears in them.
