Well, the live coverage of the mine rescue has hit the inane point where the reporters are asking stupid questions that merely reiterate what has already been reported, just in different permutations --- Basically -- the miners are going to the hospital to be checked out and we will know more in the AM

You know you're addicted when you get your world news from Babble.. That being said, the miners are rescued? And they're ok?

12:57 am

12 were rescued, jane... 1 died

12:58 am

wow, that's much better news than we expected, considering the earlier reports of bad air.... good news, more or less.

12:59 am

i know, i had stopped paying attention to it, figuring from the estimations of air no one would make it

1:15 am

can anyone give me a clue for the j word please

1:17 am

1:58 am

Has any one seen the latest news? After telling the families the miners are alive they now say only one is alive. Those poor people. I feel awful for them .

o my gosh, those poor families... that must be torture

2:00 am

I know. I am in shock. I can't imagine how they must feel..

2:04 am

Are a & j your initials? ---- if so, we have the same ones!

2:09 am

2:09 am

Just read your profile, aj -- I used to do pottery -- just shut down my business last year.

2:11 am

Finished!!!!!! -- and I even went to the trouble of finding a movie icon this afternoon for tomorrow

2:11 am

I never did pottery I am not good at being creative. I can paint things that are already shaped. I wish I was more creative.

2:12 am

It's not really that difficult -- just takes lots of practice!

2:13 am

Good for you. I will have to finish in the morning. Getting tired and my brain is freezing

2:14 am

Good night aj -- it's past my bedtime too! Good night everyone -- happy hunting!

2:14 am

I guess i don't have much of an imagination. I try but it just doesn't work for me

2:14 am

Good Night

2:14 am

I found the painting to be the most difficult -- never quite sure how the colour was going to fire!

2:17 am

I don't have trouble with that usually. sometimes the bursting paint can be tricky

any hints for the pi 6/30 ?

2:25 am

stuck on that one myself

me also ><

2:28 am

Pi6 is also known as a contact language. Or think of it as a misspelled bird.

2:28 am

just found the pi6 myself... phonetically it almost sounds like the bird (sorta like the dove)

thanks hug!

2:29 am

hello everybody!

3:44 am

Good morning, not back to school yet?

no but tomorrow I will though.

3:45 am

Will you be glad to get back?

yeah half and half.

3:47 am

It takes a few days to get back into routine again, doesen't it? Will you be able to fit in babble?

everyday except for monday but maybe I'll be able to fit in a few mins on mondays about 6:30.

3:50 am

If that's 6.30 am, then you're really dedicated! There aren't many big words today - 6 is the highest. I know you like your big point earners!

I want to try and finish the puzzle without dad today! but I'll need help of course so can I have some clue's for the 6ix's please???

3:55 am

I don't have them all yet but here's what I do have ad 6/24 - change something di 6/27 - proper name for fingers and toes pi6/30 - a type of language, rhymes with type of bird st6/21 - plural of a sports arena - like Wembley

thanks got three of them!

3:59 am

That was quick! Have you got the 5's off some of them as well?

yes! the only one I can't get is the ad 6/24.

4:02 am

Okay, can you think of a word beginning with ap that means suitable or appropriate? Add it to ad to get the 5 then pluralise for the 6.

4:03 am

help for the di 6/24?

4:07 am

Try googling - An anticlinal fold in which a mobile core, such as salt or gypsum, has pierced through the more brittle overlying rock for the di6 Hi everyone (I'm not really here BTW)

di6 fingers and toes

4:08 am

the di6/24 is similar to American nappy - different last vowel.

4:09 am

If you're not really here, FMitch, where are you?

4:10 am

LOL I'm back in the real word (working) but can't help keeping half an eye on the chat.

4:11 am

Ah, we'll whisper so as not to attract attention....

4:13 am

any clues for the da 5/12 (and 6/21)?

thanks haz with help I got the ad 6/24 how do you do that fireworks thing????

4:17 am

Fireworks thing?

you know... &*&*&*&*&* FIREWORKS *&*&*&*&*&*&

4:19 am

Ah, I know what you mean now but I'm not sure myself. Some people seem to have worked out a system using lots of asterisks etc. Keep an eye out for those who do it and then ask for a tutorial!

ok i'll do that!

4:24 am

I have to go now, Sam, but here's a few 5's for you ra5/14 - very fast ga5/14 - plural of way of walking st5/10 - unwanted mess on clothes See you later, bye!

4:50 am

4:51 am

mon, do you have the ga4/6 that is a particular way of walking?

4:51 am

ga4/6 - another word for jail.

Hi Everyone, it's mrpresident's husband here - I've got 29 words to find. Any chance of asking for some clues? (I just sat down to finish it)

4:53 am

4:54 am

mon, nm, obviously I was missing one.... in6/33 = in + wr4/9

4:54 am

7:02 am

Hi lola!

7:02 am

You're excused, then. I'm getting a few words between ironing and getting lunch ready.

7:03 am

Hi FMitch! : )

7:03 am

...sleepy : / Batteries are still charging lol

7:05 am

Anj, sounds like you were doing a lot of partying over the holidays Sounds like it was a good night at tbears' birthday bash.

7:06 am

FMitch, loads of social and no sleep a tired Anj makes... LOL : )

7:06 am

Mmmm, know the feeling. I'm dreading tomorrow when I have to be out the door with a fully dressed and fed and cleaned-up toddler at 9am : /

7:12 am

7:19 am

LOL *whispers - didn't mean to wake you up* sshhh, go back to sleep and when you wake up your grid will be grey.

7:23 am

Hey, what was all the fuss in the log yesterday?? Toes seemed to be a little shocked but I couldn't find the offending posts...

7:24 am

I think Dr God managed to strike out whatever was offensive so no record exists.

7:24 am

Hi! Does anyone want to help me take my Christmas decorations down? No? You all seem rather tired! Anj - I think a couple of trolls invaded the log but Jamie zapped 'em very quickly.

7:25 am

Makes sense, thanks Haz. What was it all about? Did we get trolled?

7:26 am

it was the usual trollish behaviour but with a bit of a nasty edge to it

7:27 am

Anj - I wasn't around at the time the invasion occurred but I imagine it was the usual non-brain type of poster that comes in to insult players and only proves him or herself 'sadder' than they accuse us of being. Best ignored.

7:28 am

Time to go back to work see you all anon.

7:28 am

Hi Jac : ) Hmm...so the babble goat gruffs made it over the bridge then, lol : )

7:29 am

8:09 am

Oh good...I could use something easy.

8:09 am

I got stuck at 60 initially but got there in the end. Not too many babble words for a change, either that or I am playing too much and learning them.

9:06 am

Body part located in skull

9:07 am

Haz - is that for the si or wi word

9:08 am

wi 5/22 is the name of a British town, or you could think of it as a hairpiece plus start of Green Gables heroine's name. The si is the body bit - think of colds.

9:08 am

Haz, thanks so much found them both, time for a break

9:09 am

Good - you'll come back refreshed.

9:16 am

Wow! I've finished and it's still daylight! I'll pop back from time to time to see how everyone is getting on

9:21 am

Ironing's done, FMitch. Our daughters are both at home so there's a lot more laundry going on than usual.

9:22 am

LOL ad5 to modify or change, to make more suitable.

9:22 am

duh...was working from the wrong a...what else is new?

9:22 am

Haz, how come they arn't doing the ironing for you?

9:24 am

Because they have perfected the art of ironing badly!

9:24 am

The other reason is that I actually enjoy ironing. Strange, I know.

9:25 am

ROFL

9:26 am

Good Morning! I'm popping in and out this morning since I'm taking down Christmas. Any help w/the in 6/33?

9:29 am

Thanx Haz

9:29 am

di 6/24?

9:29 am

You're welcome, Nonny.

9:31 am

Babs - sounds a bit like what you would call a baby's nappy

9:31 am

di 6/24 - similar word to what babies wear, but use a different last vowel

9:31 am

Team Haz/FMitch - strikes again!

9:32 am

thanks, guys...who said there wasn't alot of weird babble words today???

9:32 am

We should probably be giving geological definitions but life's too short!

9:37 am

I'm heading off once more to exercise the dog. Happy babbling, everyone.

9:38 am

See you next time Haz :)

9:46 am

morning everyone! :)

9:46 am

9:49 am

na5/12 A point on the celestial sphere directly below the observer, diametrically opposite the zenith. pi6/30 - A simplified form of speech that is usually a mixture of two or more languages. Sounds like a bird.

9:49 am

na5/12 opposite of zenith

9:50 am

Thanks, darleen...

9:50 am

y/w Babs

9:56 am

Hi folks. Just came back to finish my last 2 words and would like to say thanks to Haz for the di6/24 and FMitch for the pi6/30. Don't think I'd have found them without your excellent clues.

9:57 am

Hi Jac, you are welcome!!!

9:58 am

Anyone need any clues while I'm here on my teabreak?

9:58 am

yah...looking for one of the last two ga 4/6's

9:59 am

have the variant of jail one

10:01 am

Please help with ag 5/14 6/24

10:02 am

Babs - one ga4 is an anagram of your horny st4/6. The other ga4 finished with the French number one.

10:03 am

Thanks! jacula!

10:03 am

The ag's. Add 'a' to the start of your gi4 & 5 that mean 'to get the thread or idea of something'. Sounds a bit like discrimination by date of birth.

10:06 am

Thank you kindly Jacula ,does look easy ,when one gets a hint

10:08 am

Glad you both got the clues! Time I went back to de-Christmassing the house. TTFN.

10:08 am

Jacula I am doing the same thing

Way to go Eva!

10:17 am

woo hoo! eva...got a clue for one of the os 5's

10:18 am

they kinda sound like the name of the soviet union. almost the same spelling, just the very center letter is different between the two words.

10:19 am

hmm...not coming through...i have the one that's an ancient city...

Babs, sounds like Occupational Safety and Hazard Admin acronym.

10:21 am

take your ancient city. take out the center letter + double the letter before it.

10:24 am

pa 5/14? (good morning!)

10:25 am

plural pa4/6

10:26 am

sounds kinda like what someone spanish woulc call their dad or priest...but change the last vowel

10:26 am

harp - an abbreviation of what a cowboy might call a 'friend'...as in howdy pa____

10:26 am

there are 3 x pa5/14

10:28 am

Yes, I figured out that there are 3 pa 5/14. After I asked for the clue. I already had two, but you all very politely gave me clues for all three. Got it now! Thank you.

12:07 pm

hi mia!

What is sudoku (not that I need anything else to play on the computer)?

12:08 pm

hi mia!!

12:09 pm

Thank you again Gramma!!

12:09 pm

bunnyvicious - it's a 'numbers/logic' puzzle... there are 9 columns/9 rows/9 'boxes'... You have to have the numbers 1 - 9 in each w/o repeating in any row/column or box. A lot of newspapers are printing them now...

12:09 pm

bunny -- its a game started over in asia with a grid + numbers 1-9. you have to use each number once in each row, each column, and each block of the grid. kinda hard to explain without looking at it...its fun, but it can be frustrating!

12:09 pm

di 6/24?

12:10 pm

12:15 pm

See you all tomorrow. I have to finish insulating the wood shed walls. Anybody want to help? It's really fun. Come on..really it's fun, honest.

12:16 pm

bunny - they give you 'starter' numbers so that you can enter the rest...I believe the first page shows a sample with the starter numbers, and then if you move your mouse over it, it shows the full grid...

12:16 pm

12:28 pm

go bunny!!!!

12:28 pm

Hey bunny - are you quitting by cold turkey or using something to help you?

12:29 pm

Thank you for the di's...

12:30 pm

Go bunny, I know you can quit the dreaded weed....

I threw my pack out a midnight, Dec 31, been twitching ever since. I'm using a little "pill". Nicotine tablet called Ariva or Stonewall, they are $2.50 a pack, but I only use one in the morning. They are like little mints you tuck under your lip.

12:31 pm

Going now SJW - want to search for collagen filler stockists-or maybe will just use the polyfiller in the garage:-)

12:31 pm

Go for it, I stopped 7 months ago using patches (was a 40 a day smoker)

12:31 pm

Try Alan Carrs book - the easy way to stop smoking. Good fun read - easy to quit and no withdrawal....

It's alot cheaper than the patch or perscriptions...

12:32 pm

Angelsong, as everyone's talking about smoking, the gi6/24 is a famous French cigarette brand with a different letter at the end.

12:32 pm

Mary the os's all have to do with bone. All of three words end in the same vowel. The first o"s's", (the "ssnakey-looking letter), have a double constanant followed by vowels. One has a one-vowel ending, the other has a two-vowel ending. The last os change the second constanant to another one and end the word in the same vowel as the other two words above it

I think a few more days the worst will be over, won't it?

12:32 pm

Oh yeah - book is under £12 for latest hardback with 2 CDs to play in the car. Cheaper than patches, tablets or gum and doesnt replace one source of nicotine with another

12:33 pm

I'm just happy that more and more folks are beginning to understand about what smoking actually does to them.......

12:33 pm

my mom quit like 20 years ago cold turkey -- she called it the "one hour at a time" method. my dad has tried to quit, but he cant cause he doesnt really want him to -- he just tries to quit because WE want him to. the irony is that he started smoking because my mom did.

12:34 pm

well good luc bunny and keep at it.

My husband quit same time, as far as I know, no infractions. He works around soker though. I just haev the three year old twins all day (makes me want a smoke!).

12:35 pm

Anyone know if Ren is okay? Those fires in Texas are getting very scary :(

12:35 pm

13 more to go...

12:35 pm

bunny - all the dogs and kids - I just drink *grins and up ends dregs of glass*

And I CAN'T TYPE!! Thanks for all the well wishes, I'll do fine. I don't want my kids smoking, big incentive.

12:35 pm

Is doxy on here?

12:35 pm

I smoked till my dad died of lung cancer. That was a wakeup call.

12:35 pm

thanks hydra, but I dnn't smoke, so I'm still clueless...:)

It would be for me too.

Don't guess I've seen Ren, but I think the fires are under control, I'm here too. My husband's crew are'nt allowed to weld due to burn bans.

12:37 pm

i could start quoting lines from part of one of my favorite movies... "cigarettes. i hate people who smoke. i hate SMOKE. i dont get it -- a hobby that makes you DIE. thats like the equivalent of always carrying around a salt-lick laced with a tiny bit of cyanide..."

12:37 pm

OK Angelsong, let's try this: an old g-- plus a Latin year minus a consonant!

They are fining like crazy for cig's out the window, I'm ready for rain!

12:37 pm

bunny I quit years ago too...it was cold turkey for me. It was soooo hard because my husband would smoke when we were in the car and I couldn't escape it. Years later now he finally told me looking back he realizes how difficult he had made it for me.

12:38 pm

st6 anyone?

12:39 pm

evanadine, just out of curiosity, which movie is that quote taken from...?

12:39 pm

Gi 6: Gi + people lay out in the sun to get a *** + a vowel

12:39 pm

st6 - places where sports are played

12:39 pm

A salt lick with cyanide doesnt cost over a fiver for 20 licks. can you tell Im an ex smoker? 1 year 6 days.... never missed it after the book - spent 5 years before trying unsuccessfully to quit. I LURVE Alan Carr.....

12:39 pm

"High Strung"

Think of a football st*****, where they seat all the people.

12:40 pm

Got it, thanks! ag5/14? (2nd one)

12:41 pm

"what about those people who say theyre gonna quit and then an hour later you see them with a butt hanging out of their mouth? what ig Ghandi had that kinda willpower? 'i will not eat until there is complete freedom and indepen...is that a butterfinger?!'"

remove the last two letters, add an a

12:41 pm

LMAO

12:43 pm

IF YOU DO THIS, YOU WILL DIE!"

12:44 pm

Second gi4, but I got it. Thanks.

12:45 pm

dirt nap LOL, never heard that one

12:45 pm

da5? pi6? Then I'm done!!

12:46 pm

evanadine, are you still quoting from "High Strung"...?

neither have I

12:47 pm

"yeah, but then youd still have that guy who says 'my grandfather smoked 3 packs a day, and he lived to be 75 years old.' yeah, but what he doesnt tell you is that he had one lung, breathed like a walrus, and couldnt tell ya who he was. boy, thats living!"

take the s from your do 6/21 pi, odd way to spell a bird that poops all over statues

12:47 pm

g'afternoon! :)

12:47 pm

Nevermind, got the Di. Just need Pi6 now.

12:47 pm

da5 man's name + add two vowels at end

12:48 pm

Got the Da I mean.

12:49 pm

heh, sure am movieman. came out in 1994, directly to video. stars steve oedekirk (of the tumb-movie and "kung pao" fame) cameos by jim carey, fred willard, jani lane, denise crosby, the guy who played Biff in "back to the future" and others.... mostly, a monologue of a really high strung guy complaining about anything + everything. freakin hilarious.

12:49 pm

pi6 this is a language, sounds something like the sea bird you always see at dumps, kinda spell it phonetically Hi Tim :)

hello HOTTam

Never seen it, my husband's in Eddie Izzard, cross dressing comedian

12:50 pm

second and third ga4/6's?

12:50 pm

Missy....I don't think that particular bird is a sea bird, at least not where I come from....

12:50 pm

It was 16 years ago this week, when I kicked the habit, but I NEVER actually said "I'm giving up smoking", I just said "Dammit, I'm not buying any more", different attitude altogether!

into, i mean

12:51 pm

i have a few eddie izzard DVDs -- saw him live a few years ago. big fan. :D

12:51 pm

yeah... Izzard's f'n hilarious

Think it's time for me to consume more coffee and jitter around the house some more...see you guys tomorrow.

12:51 pm

Thanks for the clue. Finally done.

12:51 pm

can anyone please give me a clue for si 5/12

12:52 pm

movieman I was born at the sea shore...they do definitely like living at the sea. If it wasn't for dumps they probably would have stayed sea birds in California

12:52 pm

flying rats, not seabirds >g<

12:52 pm

do you have a FLAG?? well...no flag no country! according to...the-rules-that-i-just-mad e-up...

12:52 pm

bye bunny!

12:52 pm

evanadine, I've just checked out "High Strung" on the imdb, and it also stars a young Kirsten Dunst, before she starred in "Interview with the Vampire"....

If it isn't on a screen, I don't get to go see it. Last time we went out was the Friday before we got married....

12:52 pm

yep...shes only in it for a few seconds though...heh

12:52 pm

si 5/12 this is the opening of your nose leading from the nostril

12:54 pm

thanks missyme thats me all finished

12:54 pm

Missy, where I live, (the east of England), you tend to see more of those flying rats in towns and cities than at the coast...

12:54 pm

Congrats Ruthy!

12:54 pm

Hi everyone :) I don`t suppose I could have a clue for the first ta4/5 please.....it`s the only one i`m missing and i`ve got to make dinner yet!!

12:54 pm

waves at hot timale ... I'd BE a fellow mensan but I quit.

ta...reminds me of baby frogs

12:55 pm

Movieman Are they the huge type? Not sure if those birds are the same size everywhere. Ours are giants, like an albatross...they definitely are nasty tempered...always fighting with each other

12:56 pm

*waves back* which group?

12:56 pm

ta4/5 this means just a small bit, plural

12:57 pm

Thanks Bunny.....you`re a star :o) See you all later, must make dinner!!! Byeeeee :)

12:57 pm

Missy, are you sure you're not getting them confused with seagulls, or any other seabirds for that matter....? Our "flying rats" don't tend to be that large....

12:57 pm

by lotti :)

12:58 pm

I thought thats what we were talking about...geesh I really screwed up lol

1:00 pm

okay I need to say again about that clue I gave...I meant the little irritating birds that are constantly at your feet in San Francisco, or any big city for that matter...flying rats is a good discription Movieman

1:01 pm

also, this particular spelling is al so used as Pi****-english...which is kinda of a shorthand...

1:02 pm

I agree, Missy, there are no end of them in London, especially in Trafalgar Square, and apparently Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London has forbidden people to feed them....

1:04 pm

why would anyone want to feed the world's most prolific car-bombers?

1:04 pm

movieman very wise policy! People are always feeding them in San Francisco.

1:05 pm

Hot I think it's a "quaint" and constant Holliwood staple...you see a little old lady or man sitting all by their lonesome on a bench feeding them.....BAH!

what about Mary Poppins...she sang a whole dang song about it!!

1:06 pm

right, but since when is Hollywood stock fitting for real-life application?

1:07 pm

Mary Poppins was a drug pusher

1:07 pm

hot timale ... I forget (blonde senior moments are such a trial)

1:07 pm

supercalifragilisticexpialidos hus or somewhat/thing

Missy - don't hold back...tell us how you REALLY feel!! LOL!!!

1:08 pm

And what about the Pi6/27 Lady from "Home Alone 2".....

1:08 pm

in6 please?

Darleen - right movie, wrong song! 8 )

1:08 pm

Hot...Hollyweird makes everything stupid look cool...people can be such sheep! lol

1:09 pm

really? I thought that was Mary Poppins???

1:09 pm

that and a spoonful of something or other makes the medicine go down?

1:09 pm

tsk. really bad blonde moments today.

Dar - I think she sang both...the other was "Feed the Birds...tuppence a bag..."

1:10 pm

in6 in + wr4/9

1:10 pm

mas - in + w4/9

1:10 pm

Not at all, Darlene. Mary Poppins is practically perfect in every way.

1:11 pm

how right you are, Missy... maybe we should rename this game baaaaa-bble

1:11 pm

Eastern lol I thought that movie was silly even when I saw it as a child

mab!!! Happy New Year!!!

1:11 pm

so why does that make your fellow babblers sheep>?

1:11 pm

heh, glad im not the only one who has that song running through their head, EB!

1:12 pm

Hot lol!

1:12 pm

I never saw the movie but the songs (runs screaming from the room)

1:12 pm

Thank you so much FMitch.

1:12 pm

any clues on the os's? i swear i've tried every combination! plz & ty! :)

1:12 pm

'tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a baaaag'

1:13 pm

why do i keep wanting to type oldgits? must be telling me something!

1:13 pm

back now and banging head on desk. no more, please (LOL)

1:13 pm

birdseed, that is.

1:13 pm

bejay it's those damned blonde senior moments, eh?

efor - os - all end in vowels & are related to "bones"...

1:14 pm

efor the os's all have to do with bone. All of three words end in the same vowel. The first o"s's", (the "ssnakey-looking letter), have a double constanant followed by vowels. One has a one-vowel ending, the other has a two-vowel ending. The last os change the second constanant to another one and end the word in the same vowel as the other two words above it

1:14 pm

On a different topic, can anyone listen to the "William Tell Overture" WITHOUT thinking of the Lone Ranger.....?

1:15 pm

Well, Im off to buy some wood...we're building a seating area in front of a window :) Cya all later

now I have 'dem bones, dem bones, dem...dry bones" going through my head...darn me for knowing so many different songs!!

1:15 pm

movieman ... no. Hollywood has ruined lots of really great music along with really great novels.

1:15 pm

so right darleen!

bye MissyMe

1:16 pm

EB... don't remind me... 'dem bones was the warmup song my girls picked for last year's volleyball season.

1:16 pm

It's a gift, Eastern! (I so say because I know pretty much the same ones)

1:17 pm

I agree darleen, I mean why did Coppola have to use "The Ride of the Valkyries" in "Apocalypse Now"......?

1:17 pm

yay! thanks missy! finally done with all the vowel words!

1:18 pm

Anything is fair when it comes to Wagner, MovieMan.

1:19 pm

If I could have any part of my memory erased, I would choose to get rid of any trace of the Lone Ranger so I could listen to the "William Tell Overture" and really appeciate it.....

HotTimale...that's worse...I ran track in the '80's & we had that song "Break My Stride"...I was SOOO sick of it by the end of the season!

1:20 pm

ok... you win =P

1:20 pm

Instead of thinking about some gink wearing a black mask and riding a white horse.....

HT - it might be a tie!! 8 )

1:22 pm

It scarcely brings to mind William Tell, does it. How about the use of Mendelsohn's Italian Symphony in 'Breaking Away?' (pretty old movie)

1:22 pm

i guess i should be thankful that left to their own devices, a team of 15-yr-old girls knew better than to pick anything by Britney or Kenny Chesney

1:23 pm

Just checking in to see if anyone needs any clues.....?

1:23 pm

mab - you mean the cycling movie with the two Dennis's (Quaid & Christopher).....?

HT - that's the bright side!!

1:24 pm

"nobody gonna break my stride...nobody gonna hold me down, oh no! ive got to keep on movin!" DARN you EB!!

1:24 pm

i'm not sure they all had a bright side... ;)

1:24 pm

greetings babblers, clues for ag 6?

1:24 pm

I'm stuck on those first two ad's.

1:25 pm

Oooh, thanks for the reminder about Break my Stride ... I'm off to itunes :-)

1:25 pm

Great memory, Movie Man; I don't remember the Quaids, but I do remember, of course, the cycling. The kid is enamored of anything Italian.

1:25 pm

badcat -- to be able to change according to a given situation.

*hangs head in shame* Sorry eva....

1:25 pm

norad - it sound like a group of people who are against others because of their elderly status....

1:26 pm

got it, thanks movieman

1:26 pm

norad... plural form of one who discriminates

1:26 pm

thanks Eva!

1:27 pm

heh, its ok. my friend + i are planning a CD of sings that we would use if ever one day we decided to become...erm, exotic dancers...heh... great ones would be on there like "pour some sugar on me" - def leppard "criminal" - fiona apple "these boots are made for walking" - cover done by the Fixx i think ill hafta just make the CD one day, just in case!

1:27 pm

mab - "Breaking Away" happens to be one of my father's favourite movies, seeing as he's a big fan of cycling, PLUS he always watches the Tour de France during the summer....

eva - you'd have to include the diVinyls song...I Touch Myself...

1:28 pm

eva, do you have cherry pie on there?

1:28 pm

thx to you too Hot Timale, do you have a clue for the gi 6 ?

1:29 pm

Oh yeah EB that is one of my all time faves!

1:29 pm

norad, brand of jeans (i think) popular in the '80s

Darleen - I was a teen in the late '80's...does it show?? ; )

1:30 pm

That's it Evana, 'just a spoon full of sugar makes the medicine go down, the medicine go down, medicine go down.....In the most delightfufl waaaay' I can see its exotic dancing potential.

1:30 pm

eva - and what about Coloe Me Badd's "I Wanna Sex You Up"....? Or "Cream" by Prince & the New Power Generation....?

HotTimale...what a riot...that's what I thought of when I finally got the word...others were telling me "Spanish Gypsy"...I would have gotten it much faster w/ your clue!!

1:30 pm

Hey I was, well I won't say but I still love that music! (wait wait ... NOT disco no no no... ROCK from the 80's)

1:30 pm

Sorry, that should be COLOR Me Badd's "I Wanna Sex You Up".....

Haha, movieman, I figured you were just using the appropriate accent...

mab - ROFLMAO!

1:31 pm

not to omuch a fan of "i wanna sex you up" myself, but all the others are great! also would have "you shook me all night long" by ac/dc on there!

1:32 pm

any clues for the da5 and da6? I'm sure they are *really* obvious adn I just cant see them!

1:32 pm

thx Hot Timale, I'm working on it...badcat...the two ad's have to do with getting used to something new...if the weather pattern changes, we will have to ad---

1:33 pm

"Breaking Away' was a sweet movie....it's actually on my netflix list because I haven't seen it for years.

1:33 pm

da 5/12 - small, often brightly coloured freshwater fishe - and plural

Atalante - da - da 5 - think boy's name + 2 vowels da 5 - the above + plural

1:34 pm

thank you! I knew they would be obvious! *kicks the fish*!

eva - how 'bout "You Can Leave Your Hat On" by Joe Cocker?

1:34 pm

for the da's think of what jack lord always said on hawaii five-oh.

1:36 pm

finally got it, thanks Hot Timale...

1:36 pm

EB -- oh the memories!! my senior year in college, i was president of our dance club. my mission (in which i was successful!) was to get together a group of guys to re-enact the full monty and thats the song we used!! :D

eva - you persuasive little minx!! how fun!

1:37 pm

yw nor

1:38 pm

its on video somewhere... we could only do the "mostly monty" though...hah but i made sure the boys had an encore that involved them interacting with the audience. ;) OH!! how could we ever forget "i want your sex" by george michael?!

1:39 pm

Eva - or what about "Erotica" or "Justify My Love" by Madonna.....

eva - you should save that video in case they ever run for office!! blackmail is good... 8 D

1:40 pm

not bad movieman -- how can we have such a cd without madonna? i think id be more inclined so a song like "human nature" myself. ;)

1:41 pm

EB -- i WISH i had it! still friends with one of the guys...it would be such a fun memory!! i mean, these guys could NOT dance when we started...and we really whipped them into shape! they were so cute by the end of it!

1:41 pm

Eva - or how about "Where Life Begins".....the first song I heard that's about cunnilingus....

1:41 pm

eva, that's a great idea, making the cd. Its always good to have a backup skill.

1:42 pm

hah, i dont know that one movieman!

1:42 pm

mab -- yeah, mom always said i should have a fallback plan. ;)

1:42 pm

There's a word difficult to rhyme.

1:43 pm

eva - it's track 5 on her "Erotica" album.....

1:43 pm

One could work 'charlie mingus' into the lyric.

mab - tee hee hee!!!

1:44 pm

or "cunning linguist" :D

1:45 pm

ooh! almost forgot one of my favorite songs for the list -- "hey pretty" by poe

1:45 pm

Did you ever see the Saturday Night Live parody of the work set in Civil War days - Colonel Ingus??

1:45 pm

It reminds me of a piece of graffiti I once read.... "Cunnilingus is not an Irish airline!!!!"

1:46 pm

played by none other than Mr. Christopher Walken.

1:47 pm

Hi guys! : )

1:47 pm

Yeah Boreetos!!

1:47 pm

...is that in the same vein as "an innuendo is not an Italian suppository" ? This is one weird thread...

1:47 pm

Hola Lola! Feliz Ano Nuevo!

1:47 pm

hi kids!! First time back since Christmas!!

evanadine - I love Poe!

1:48 pm

haven't sene that one, Lupe... but since we're talking about SNL puns, does it come close to being as funny as the Janet Jackson "cork soaker?"

1:48 pm

Happy New Year Boreetos!

1:48 pm

err... seen

1:48 pm

HI All : ) HNY Boreetos! Great timing babe ; ) (((xx)))

1:48 pm

Missed that one HotTimale!

1:49 pm

Happy New Year!!!

1:49 pm

That's funny, Lupe. i've not seen it though. I've not heard any of the songs anyone has just mentioned. Too much listening to Mingus and Coltrane and Mendelsohn, I guess.

1:49 pm

Anj.....yep And like "I thought the Karma Sutra was an Indian restaurant until I discovered Smirnoff"......

1:49 pm

Hope to catch it in reruns on cable!

1:49 pm

anj! lola! youre just in time for our very serious discussion!!

1:49 pm

Ack! i think I've been blinded, Anj!

1:49 pm

if you can find it somewhere online (or anywhere, for that matter) it's well worth the effort

1:50 pm

Lupe! Gelukkige kersfees en neuwe jaar! : ) Hey boreetos! : ) Hi babe! As always... ; ) (((xxx)))

1:50 pm

EvaN, i've got Poe's Hello album, but apart from the title track I was left a little cold on that : / Have I missed something??

1:50 pm

the Colonel Lingus sketch is on the best of Christopher Walken DVD from SNL.

1:50 pm

hi Lola!

1:50 pm

Thanks Boreetos.....

1:51 pm

Boreetos, is the cork soaker on DVD?

1:51 pm

Walken is so odd, I imagine it was hilarious. Hi Lola!

1:52 pm

Hi mab! : )

1:52 pm

Thanks Lola!

1:52 pm

and Boreetos, it's been donkeys' years!

1:52 pm

I'm not sure... the SNL website has a searchable list of all the sketches though. Grouped by guest host or by date. You could look up when Janet hosted and find it.

1:53 pm

i was saying that my friend + i were going to put together a CD of songs that we would use, if ever we decided to become exotic dancers. ;)

1:54 pm

Just checking in to see if anyone needs any clues.....?

1:58 pm

wow, no input from anj??

1:58 pm

peri- the lowest point : )

1:58 pm

Gelukkig Nuwejaar?

1:59 pm

1:59 pm

Hi, lola, thank you

lola - the 18th letter of the Hebrew alphabet...

1:59 pm

Happy New Year Anj...

1:59 pm

holy cow you guys, we forgot "closer" by nine inch nails! thats gotta be on the list for sure!

hi peri!

1:59 pm

missing an ni4. have the little bugs

2:00 pm

EvaN, I think the music depends on the audience. For some reason i'm drawn to More Human than Human by White Zombie although that might be considered eclectic by the drooling masses : )

2:00 pm

HI there EB

2:00 pm

Do you have the palm, peri?

2:00 pm

Did you hear about the new Russian leader? He's experiencing a taste of Tsardom! Badump Crash!

2:00 pm

ni 4: ni + very short word for DAD

ni 4 A large palm of the Philippines and Australia, having long leaves often used for thatching.

2:00 pm

Closer is good : ) The video was freaky!

2:01 pm

Anj, are you trying to correct me? I did spell 'nuwe' wrong but you still need the 'e' on the end of 'gelukkig' ; )

2:01 pm

thanks for the clues, now have the 2nd ni4, new word for me

2:02 pm

lola.... ts word.....easiest to go to www.morewords.com and type in " ts* "

2:04 pm

Hi dachef! How you been? : )

2:04 pm

Babe, ts5 is t plus 1st sa4/5 I wasn't correcting, I was puzzled why there was an E on gelukkig : ) Mine was happy new year...or at least it was meant to be : / I've probably declared it's a national holiday in the Cape or something : (

Dachef! Welcome back!

2:04 pm

Dachef!!!!!!!!!

2:04 pm

:-D HotTimale!

2:05 pm

Hi Dachef!

2:05 pm

were we talking about sex related songs? Freaks of the industry, Naughty by Nature Nikki Dont stop, Low Millions Crash, Dave Matthews Band most other songs by Dave Matthews Band Sally, Two Live Crew

2:05 pm

Hey Dachef - HNY hombre : )

2:06 pm

not just sex-related. songs for exotic dancers...hehe

2:06 pm

nice to be back babbling, but even nicer to finally be home at last. Been living in hotels so long I feel like Alan Partridge.

2:07 pm

gotcha, sorry. how about Frontier Psychiatry by the Avalanches then? that'd be good.

2:07 pm

cant say i know that one

2:08 pm

...how about Animal: I *** like a Beast by W*A*S*P then??

2:08 pm

Where have you been Dachef?

2:08 pm

I dont think it matters what music you use. If you want to grab that pole and dance, then grab that pole and dance baby! Time for a lie down methinks........

Disco Science by Mirwais would be a good one, I think. If you don't know which song I'm talking about, watch the movie Snatch... the scene where the dogs are chasing the rabbit.

2:09 pm

im not as much into the harder stuff...not that im opposed to it, just not familiar with it...heh

2:10 pm

mab - been working awa from home for the past month or so. No internet access! Have been playing a wee bit (the odd hour here and there) whenever I can to feed the addiction! Good to be back tho and see all the usual faces/icons!!!

2:10 pm

back in a few...

2:10 pm

Thanks babe... xxx :) Don't know why you add the E..... you just do, okay?! lol!

2:10 pm

oh, that slippery slope, eva....

2:10 pm

...you could try Jakalope's Don't Cry...

2:12 pm

How about 'you and me baby ain't nothing but mammals, so lets do it like they do on the discovery channel'? Can't remeber who did that one : )

2:12 pm

Bloodhound Gang...

2:12 pm

Eva - here's another one for you.....how 'bout "Sexual Healing" by Marvin Gaye.....

2:13 pm

good one Lola, Bloodhound Gang by the way.

2:13 pm

ooh, another good one movieman! trying to go with something mostly mainstream...heh

2:13 pm

Have to disappear for a bit, back soon : )

2:13 pm

Or "Sexy M.F." by Prince & the New Power Generation.....

2:14 pm

yeah, pretty much any song by the bloodhound gang would work...ha

wow! I've never heard of so many different songs...I must live under a rock!

bye HT... bye Lola...

2:15 pm

yeah, like "pretty when I'm drunk"

2:16 pm

2:18 pm

muscrat love? on that note, I gotta get back to work. nice to chat with alll of you guys again. see you soon!

2:18 pm

...may as well go for Free's Wishing Well while we're at it then...

2:18 pm

golden earring, soft rock?? while you're on Prince, why not P. Control?

2:19 pm

one more... you down with OPP?!

2:20 pm

heh, lots of possibilities, but yknow, ive gotta whittle it down to the cream of the crop! only the best of the best!

2:20 pm

Or how about the whole of Prince's "Come" album..... Especially, "Come", "Pheromone", & "Orgasm"....

2:20 pm

...and we haven't even touched on Bon Jovi or the Chilli Peppers yet... : )

2:22 pm

Hi Dachef -- welcome back! Is this movie icon day?

2:23 pm

we could also include poisons "unskinny bop" hehe

Bon Jovi... *drifts into dreamlike state*

2:24 pm

AAAaahhh! Found it! Everybody Knows by Leonard Cohen. Conversation closed, I think. Aye thankyou. Hi Cybernan!!!

cyber...I believe movie icon day is Friday or Saturday (1/6 or 1/7)...

2:24 pm

...how about The Cult's Resurrection Joe?

bye boreetos!

2:25 pm

dont know that one, but ive always wanted to dance to "fire woman"

2:26 pm

anywho, time for me to get going, so i gotta wrap up here... prolly jump online when i get home. :)

2:26 pm

2:54 pm

Hi doogle : )

2:55 pm

*lola prepares champers for norad's spectacular finish*

2:55 pm

Hi Lola. I've only babbled something like 3 times in the last 5 or 6 weeks and have decided it's time. Good to see so many friendly faces still around!

2:56 pm

don't open the bottle yet lola, I've only finished 5 since August!!!

2:56 pm

Hi Karys, Doogle, Speed : ) HNY all Lo, if i'm quite it's because i'm duffing up a few other countries in CIII lol

2:57 pm

Oops, too late norad, I've already cracked it! You have to finish now ; )

2:57 pm

ooohhhh the pressure... :}

2:58 pm

I love the despotic ruler in you babe! ; )

2:58 pm

Heya, Anj. I owe you many thanks for the Peter F. Hamilton recommendation! I've finished Reality Dysfunction and the Neutronium Alchemist and have finally started Naked God. Pretty amazing stuff! Do you remember who the other author was you recommended at the time as being Simmonsian?

2:59 pm

Come on norad! *whispers* I can't sqeeze into the lycra uniform any more... is it okay if I just shake the pom-poms??

3:00 pm

pom poms will do just fine, don't want any straining going on at the beginning of a new year!

3:00 pm

Hey Doogle, you're welcome. I think the other guy I mentioned was Alistair Reynolds. I've just got Simmons' Olympos for Xmas : ) That's next on the read list after Hamilton's Judas Unchained

3:00 pm

Please help with DA i cant see it

3:00 pm

Anj - is CIII Civ III? If so (or if not, for that matter), I just got the long-awaited Civ IV, which I'm sad to report can barely run on my not-terribly-outdated system. :(

3:01 pm

Yvo, which one? : )

3:02 pm

the one with the boys name

hi doogle, Karys, yvo...

3:03 pm

Yvo, think 'Oh, da*** boy, the pipes, the pipes are playing' and add another vowel. Pluralise for the 6 : )

whoops...hi speed!

3:04 pm

Doogle, yes it's Civ III: Conquests and it uses up 100% of my cpu every time it refreshes : / I daren't get Civ IV until I have the processing power to handle it. The games coming out now are probably beyond my mother board's antiquated capacity too lol

3:06 pm

Lola thank you thank you finally got it

3:06 pm

Lola, you can breath easy...I finished with the help of A2Z...thx for the support and all the clues babblers...I'll take a quick sip of that champers and then off to get some housework done...

3:06 pm

You are very welcome : )

3:07 pm

Woo! Well done norad! *lola hands norad ice cold glass of champers*

3:07 pm

Anj - Civ IV is lovely, but it crashes my system constantly. I've got a pentium IV, but I think that my video card is where I simply fall short. I actually enjoyed several fun weeks of Civ II recently. Nice simple interface, fast, and a trip down memory lane.

3:09 pm

lovely reward lola, just the thing to send me off...anyone need clues before I go?

3:12 pm

I've read some good reviews about it Doogle. I still enjoy the good old days as well tho'... nothing like a quick burn with Civ II on my PS2 to while away a day or two lol

3:15 pm

Hello all just spent 10 mins or so reading back thro the log - LOL!!! So glad I wasn't on line then, I got stuck after the Beatles! I have to sing the songs I like to people to find out who's singing them, never mind their titles!

3:16 pm

Hi snowy! : )

hi snowy... don't feel bad...often I can sing the entire song...not guess the title nor who the band/singer is!!

3:19 pm

EB, it's probably Coldplay lol : )

3:20 pm

LOL!

3:20 pm

Hi Lola & Eastern. - I dont know alot of bands - I think because I like talk radio & only listen to music in the car. we very rarely play music at home. Husband stopped at Bobby Vee & Billy Fury! LOL My poor kids could sing every 60s song ever written!

my father always stated 'driver's choice' on long car rides...his favorites - Frank, the Temptations, the Platters...

3:24 pm

Oh my dad always played Frank, Tony Bennet & the Inkspots! I could sing all those!LOL

I must be going...I may be back later to chat...still have a few things to finish up for work... 'ta for now!!

3:26 pm

My dad always used to get me to make up a few tapes for long car trips and there always seemed to be one song that became the 'anthem' for that trip. Just hearing one of those songs now sends me right back to our road trips.

3:26 pm

bye EB - later!

3:27 pm

Lo, Johnny Clegg by any chance???

3:28 pm

They're great those songs are'nt they? When I was a very little girl he used to sing 'Volare' & 'Catch a Falling Star' to me all the time - still make me blub without fail!

3:29 pm

Yup, that was one of them...'The crossing'. Another was '500 miles' by the Proclaimers.

3:32 pm

Anyone hear of Doug and the Slugs, I have a lot of albums so hubby bought me a new turntable for Xmas so I have been having fun listening to my old albums

3:35 pm

No I haven't speed. Are they a 60's band?

3:36 pm

for those of you who were on earlier, I'm sitting in my office listening to an OLD Cd and what comes on Man2Man - Male Stripper. Has that been added to the CD??

3:36 pm

Sorry Speed, they have passed me by... I don't think vinyl got the same market as cds ended up with. No internet for a start... : /

3:37 pm

lol lupe! : D

3:37 pm

They were in the 70's always one of my favorites but not many people heard about them

3:38 pm

3:38 pm

Hi Bobsta!

3:38 pm

Yo Bobsta! HNY me old mucker : )

3:38 pm

BOBSTA!!! Happy new year mate! : )

3:38 pm

Good news we already got a new addition to the house a 12 week old purebred shepherd rescued from the Animal Rescue League, we named her Shadow, great puppy!!!!

3:39 pm

I think it's about time for the New Christy Minstrels to have a revival! An album of theirs was one of my favorites as a very young boy in the early '60s. I finally found an old LP of it recently, put it on, and was amazed/amused at how dreadful it was. Exactly the kind of stuff that A Mighty Wind pokes fun at.

3:39 pm

hey LOLA!! And Anj happy new year to you both and of course everyone else too ;o)

3:39 pm

Aww, that's great speed! Give her a lola snuggle for me : )

9:33 pm

hi I need ou 4/5 and ou5/12 Thanks

9:34 pm

ou 4 and 5 -- there is an airfresher by the same name and the plural

9:34 pm

GW: With your kids, just always be there for them in all activities at school and in your community. There was never a time that there was a school activity or a game that we were not there. Sometimes, there were conflicts with our two kids as far as activities either school or community things, so we would split up and I would go to one with one kid and my husband would go with the other. Next week, we would switch kids, if there was a conflict. And, we have two very successful kids. In our day we didn't have books to read, we just went by the seat of our pants and our hearts. Loosen up and enjoy each moment with your kids. Enjoy

9:34 pm

ou 4 = opposite of in + insert crooked consonent beftore last latter then make it plural for 5

9:34 pm

ou4 -- to eject from a position

9:35 pm

THANKS

9:36 pm

well good night all, off to k1 and p2 or 3

9:36 pm

nite ak - se you tomorrow!!!

9:37 pm

Thanks JoJo -- I will do my best -- and while I love books, I have yet to touch one on parenting cos I feel that it is too subjective an experience to learn from a book -- I will gladly accept input from other parents, but not a book :)

9:38 pm

G'nite, ankitter -- 'til tomorrow (*Hug*)

9:40 pm

GW: All kids need is to know that their parents love them and enjoy doing things with them. You can direct them with your love and participation in all walks of their lives while in school. Books, are good, but real life is better. You are a good parent by just trying to learn. You'll do just fine, I am not concerned a bit about your parenting skills.

9:40 pm

oops! aknitter, not ankitter --- *blush*

9:41 pm

9:54 pm

thank you ren

9:55 pm

y/w doxy!

9:56 pm

I'm looking forward to it, mas --- It's actually pretty easy to do -- if you have a copy of the pic on your computer, go to your profile page In the upper right corner is a square for your icon with a button that says edit click that and you get a screen that asks you where to look -- you can either type in a web address or use the second option which is to upload the image from your PC Hit the browse button and then find the pic on your system and click open -- then hit the upload button and you are done -- Hit refresh before you back out to be sure it looks good and you are all set :)

9:59 pm

Thanks GW. I am computer dumb so I will pass your instructions on to my husband.

10:00 pm

Ok, mas, but make sure you watch -- once you see how simple it is, you will be icon swapping with the rest of us ;D

10:04 pm

Iwill. I need to make my husband feel like he is still useful, though. I'm always asking him computer questions and he is so happy to know more than me.
