Poo was considered responsible for her medical care at gyn office at 16. She has a phobia of needles as well. I did fight with a nurse giving me a vaccine once.....
Hi all! : ) I was sick as a child and had to have blood drawn regularly. Because I was ill my veins were weak and would collapse, making it a very long and painful procedure. I am still funny around needles but one of my proudest moments was overcoming the fear enough to give blood : )

I nearly got there too, lola! I actually went into the room to ask about signing up, then got told some of the tablets I have to take prevent me from giving blood *sigh* I tried!

morning girls. I hate needles too since I was in hospital, I was 6, 1957, and this nurse threw the needle into my bum, now you just take the tablets. After that no amount of bribery worked, my dad had to corner me for my BCG underthe dining room table cos I'd embarrassed him so much when he took me to the clinic
LOL! Good idea. I always battle in winter. The first couple of years I thought it was because I wasn't used to the bugs you have here, but now I think it's just because the bugs are super nowadays! I'm much better now thanks. Off to bristol on Friday ; )

Funnily enough, I never had a problem when my little one got all her vacs. I think I was just so focused on distracting her that I didn't think about what was going on. Also, the doctors and nurses that did them were so good that they were over before they began! : )

Nice of that friend, munner. I agree, it makes the scheduling easier. She has to have the c-section because she lost a baby before. I feel much better about doing it this way than her trying to have it on her own

People always told me life got simpler once the kids were out of the terrible two's, and then the teens, and then through college. Actually, I DID buy a small harp on ebay! But there's a lot of fraud out there, people buy junk without knowing what to look for. There are harp "show rooms" in most of the major cities.

We are in No CA between Tahoe and Sacramento, and teach tap, jazz, ballet, hip-hop, tricks... I love working with all the kids, keeps me young....(most of the time) some of the hip-hop moves make me feel really old.....
I know I'm teaching my daughter how to dance. A little hard since she is only 2 1/2.. But she loves to dance.. Kids are great to work with!

ok, so in case you don't know, my husband and i live and teach at a boarding school, and this year, we have a student actually living with us bc he needed some special help.
well, today he was supposed to read this book for history and it was HIDEOUSLY boring and long and repetitive.
and it was about efficiency, by the way. so i decided it would be most efficient for me to read it and take notes and summarize it for him, since i am very good at that sort of thing.

my husband says i am being very bad. i know i sort of am but i am a rebel and the book was SO awful and...and...
so, what do you think? did i do a very bad thing or what?

As a mom, I can totally relate to wanting to help him out. Did he ask you to help him?
well i often read his assignments to him out loud, as it is pleasanter for him and helps him focus. we started out doing that but it was going to take forever, and as i said, it was a VERY dull book.
I'm torn...on the one hand, learning to summarize & glean content is part of the learning process... on the other hand, with ADD, it can be challenging to keep information 'straight' when it's repetitive and when presented in a more streamlined fashion, might be easier to 'remember/learn'...especiall y if you talk through the summary...yada, yada, yada... on the other hand...wait...I only have 2 - I'm not an octopus!!
my dilemma exactly, EB. i do want him to develop that skill but i also think he will learn this content a lot better this way. short term vs. long term goals...
in summary - I think you did what your heart told you to do...
If he has special needs and you met those needs, I think it could be a very good thing. You might need to stress that this was an exception to how you plan to help him in the future.
do you think men are just more rational about stuff like this and we women act with our hearts, and which is better, or neither?
...especially if you talk to him about WHY you did it this way (this time) and that it's not a 'regular' part what you do...

Yes EB....we are thinking alike on this. My youngest son has some difficulties early on. We met the challenges together. He was never tested or labeled and is now a successful Computer Programmer.
I do think that men tend to be more rational...but I've also seen several specials that outline how boys are falling behind in all levels of education - and creative learning/teaching techniques might be what is needed...esp. if someone has ADD

actually this man/woman question reminds me - one time my husband and i disagreed very strongly over a situation in an ER episode. this woman was dying and in a confused mental state - thought the doc was her husband who she had cheated on or something - wanted forgiveness. nurse (female) told doc (male) to just say he forgave her - she was dying! doc said it wasn't his place. i was with nurse, hubby with doc.
hurshy...we have somoe good friends whose oldest son was having trouble w/ a historical ecnomics type class...the reading assignment was grapes of wrath...my husband read this book for him and they discussed it from front to back and mez made him write a report on their discussion...it worked....

My two cents for what it is worth - I have 3 girls...thay all had different ways of learning. my point is every kid is different and sometimes you have to bend the rules a bit to get through to them.
I don't have children yet (trying...that's another topic!!) but I was a preschool teacher & I think that many things can be seen at a very early age...the more you can 'help' in HOW they learn can booster their self-esteem & make them able to do more on their own down the road...
this might be a good idea, if i ask him to write a half page or one page summary after we discuss, in his own words say what he learned.

Jen - There are loads of easy words and their plurals. Things you row on water, stupid people, mad people, horny things that leap up mountain peaks and eat everything in sight, ones upon high, Xmas shows with dames in them, nuisances and picnic nuisances, animals you have in your home and love, bars of stuff you wash your face etc., with, nasty eruptions teenagers often get on their faces, weasel-like creatures, the grilled bread you have for breakfast and many, many more. That lot should keep you going for a bit!:-)

Okay, found my recipe from a "real" Buckeye (she's from Ohio)... makes 250... 1lb margarine, 3lb powdered sugar, 2lb peanut butter. Melt margarine then cool, add sugar and peanut butter, roll into balls. This one is a lot more high fat than the one from Paula Deen that I saw, but this one is veeeery good.

Dachef - repeat of post I gave to Jen earlier... There are loads of easy words and their plurals. Things you row on water, stupid people, mad people, horny things that leap up mountain peaks and eat everything in sight, ones upon high, Xmas shows with dames in them, nuisances and picnic nuisances, animals you have in your home and love, bars of stuff you wash your face etc., with, nasty eruptions teenagers often get on their faces, weasel-like creatures, the grilled bread you have for breakfast and many, many more. That lot should keep you going for a bit!:-)
