we're trying rice cereal, but she's still not entirely clear on the concept, so it ends up with more on her than inher, but we aren't really pushing it too hard, she's only 11 weeks, and the doc said 12 weeks, we just are trying because of how much she is eating.
my kids ate more than any kids i've ever met. My daughter would polish off an 8 oz bottle and look at me like "what was that? i'm ready for my meal now"

SOOo expensive. Even with the $5 coupons the companies send you, formula is so very expensive. I just keep reminding myself that her one canister of formula lasts as long as an equivalent dollar amount of food for me.

knutmeg, I just logged on and haven't read all of the messages, but we used to put a small amount of cereal in the bottle where it is thin enough to be able to drink from the bottle but it was enough to seem to fill them more than if they just drank formula.
i don't know, sometimes kids, babies just have crappy moods. I know i do!

well, i'm beat, and i'm not even attempting the grid! just wanted to chat with some nice people - knut, for what it's worth, there's a wonderful website called babycenter.com that i found very realistic and helpful through my pregnancy and childrearing, and if you go there, you can join a birth club message board for women with your same age babies and ask and answer questions with each other, and i'm just politely going to say that the cereal at such an early age is not what i would do and you should at least research it :) please, no hard feelings, just sharing my experience and humble opinion :)
My youngest is 28 years old so I don't remember exactly, but you'll be able to tell through trail and error by how it goes through the nipple. We did cut the nipple too but only used that nipple for the cereal not the milk.

okay, I'll keep that in mind. As for the cereal the doctor recommended it because she's over 10 pounds, eating 8 ounces at least per feeding, and sleeping through the night. All signs that she's ready for the cereal. But he said just once per day should I do the cereal. He didn't mention adding it to formula, but that seems like a nice way to start the transition

I'm using a family doctor instead of a pediatrician because of my experiences with family doctor's and the fact that my doc agrees with me on a lot of important issues with my baby. Plus, easy to treat my whole family when we get sick at the same time. I do some research, but I prefer to listen to the experiences of people around me, because no matter what the scientists say, the advice and stories others tell hold more information than anything. There are cold statistics and warm experiences. I tend to trust the experiences more.

I wish that Merp could go out...he'd love it and would get badly needed exercise, but as I've mentioned before, he'd also get eaten pretty quickly. It would be a brief but happy life. But I couldn't bear it. So he stays inside. This time of year Merp also creates multiple knots in his fur which have to be cut out so he looks like he has mange.
