sprite -- I wished a local Dutch friend a happy sinterklaasfeest and she replied "Hartelijk dank" which I'm guessing means "Hearty thanks" ---?
Thank you very much, it means. "hartelijk" is literally "cordially"
Nice, Thanks, sprite. There are a lot of Dutch expats here.
They will be surprised that you even know 5/12 is Sinterklaas :D
I only ave the aq8.
Interesting you say 5/12 -- ther were some who insisted it was 6/12
jilli, i have no idea what your icon is, can you give me a definition?
something mountainish?
ooh, got it! good monkeys
Saint Nicolas's Day = 6th of December. The night before is Pakjesavond (night of the gifts). Hence the confusion.
Fran, French for track or ski-trail - maybe not too familiar in Hawaii - lol
of course i'd never heard the word before, i've only seen snow a couple of times
Ah, thanks, sprite.
And what does Balck Peter do? I seem to remember he sorts the good from the naughty -- ?
*Black
He is the big help of Sinterklaas. In the old tradition, he walked the roofs and listened in on the chimneys. There he heard if you were naughty or nice, told it to Sint and Sint wrote it in his Big Book.
i'll be back in a little bit, see you all later!
bye fran
Bye Fran
TTFN, fran
Sprite, that's such fun!
On Pakjesavond, Sint and his Black Peters deliver the gifts, or if you had been bad, you got a 'roe' (don't know the english word, it is a bunch of twigs that was used to spank your behind).
And if you were really really bad, you were put into the Sack of Sint, and you had to come with him to Spain, lol. Quite an incentive on being bad, I think!
Great! In the English tradition you got a lump of coal in your stocking if you were naughty
Black Peters also throw sweets into groups of kids, and into the houses when they deliver gifts.
Oh, let's be baaad and get to the Costa del Sol!
In the time just before Sinterklaas, kids get to 'set their shoes'. This is very much like the stocking tradition you have for Christmas.
YEAH! I always wanted to go to Spain, but wasn't brave enough to be bad enough as kid :)
lol sprite
awww, cute
Hi mari you here?
Evening everyone. Can someone clue the ag7 and 8?
good question, mkl -- I could use those too :)
morning, yes Iam
did you have the ga from Frans icon jilli?
ag + time indication for morning + latin for and + vowel
srite, I hope I can remember all those traditions and celebrate sinterklaas again next year
Mari did you get mail?
If not, just drop me an email and I will help you remember, jilli :)
sprite, latin for what?
latin for and
found it. thank you
think brutus
add an a to the beginning of the ga 6.27
yeah, and or too, that is true.
got it, thanks, sprite, and I see your cool email address too -- or you could just email me too
You can also add poems to the gifts, jilli - simple rhymes in which you can tease the recipient with his (bad) habits or funny things he did in the last year
lol BabbleRabble - one of the most famous Sinterklaas songs indeed!
See there arrives the steamboat, From Spain again. It brings us Saint Nicolas, I see him standing there already. Look how the flags, Flutter back and forth. Look how his little horse, Hops up and down the deck. His servant stands there, laughing And he shouts at us: “Who’s good, gets sweets, Who’s bad, gets the whip.â€
Hartelijk dank, Babblerabble
hi Diem got it
hi Diem got it
Mari twice ?
sprite and rabble -- I just emailed that song to my dutch friend
II expect your friend will enjoy
She will know it for sure :) It is so funny, the word 'ginds' is rather old fashioned, but all kids sing it anyway - without any idea what it means and not caring whatsoever :)
morning :o)
looks a fun grid with the Q this morning
How accurate is the translation, sprite?
it is, gary.
sprite, i think singing words you don't know in traditional songs is a custom in every language
Pretty accurate, BabbleRabble!
Yes, I think so too, Leigh. I also remember singing songs in english long before I learned the language. Worked fine for me :)
A friend of mine told me that for years she used to sing "You're the devil in the skies". She only found out afterwards that the word 'disguise' should have been in there somewhere :)
Is Andersen's Hans Brinker, or the Silver Skates, a tale known to all in the Netherlands, sprite?
Used to be, BabbleRabble. But people pay less attention to fairytales nowadays, alas. Don't think a lot of schools or parents still tell the tales.
trying to get my last few 7's. Can someone clue the em7? I don't have the em6 either.
Babblerabble -- how come you know so much about the Netherlands?
em + vowel + nervous habit = 6. 7 is the plural.
ty sprite
ty sprite
etip
crappy monkeys.
good ole Google! But why the interest?
"etip" was not found in the dictionary
google is a friend :)
etip looks like a babblet, though
har de har har
I was trying to find a translation for "roe"
mkl--where in AK, if you don't mind me asking?
Hans Brinker was something I read in school
but babbleRabble, you knew the song before googling? Howcum?
We live about thirty miles outside of Fairbanks. A little town called Salcha
just looked it up. 'Roe' or 'roede' = rod, scourge.
ah, I have family in Fairbanks. Bro used to do remote mail delivery.
spare the rod and spoil the child
That's it, jilli.
No, I just looked for roe and it was in the song .... a whip
it has let me enter a word that isn't actually there....
not politically correct these days
does it have a points value behind it, gem?
Great weather for this time of year. Up to about twenty during the day. Been like that for about a week.
yep ca4/5
Nope jilli, it isn't pc here either.
never mind - I am seriously blind today!
d'oh!
In that case, gem, it is there :)
lol
still babbling leigh?
Babbling and watching Law & Order instead of studying for property.
yikes, you're high is almost as high is not far from what we've been getting here in AR the past couple of days!
Ana and I got together to study... and... WE ACTUALLY STUDIED
....
when did that happen? And why didn't you call me?
I would have invited you but I thought we were just not going to study
it kinda just happened impromptu
no imagination, the two of you, Leigh :)
yeah, i guess i can't blame you.
couple of weeks ago, we hit forty below two or three times. Didn't get above 15 below for two weeks straight.
i studied a little bit earlier.
last time we talked I thought you were giving up on us, but I will for sure invite you next time
whoa! I don't think my old bones could handle that. Was born in
Iremember 20F in the Montreal area on a sunny day -- lovely, with the scrunch of snow underfoot and warm clothes and boots.
nah, i hadn't given up entirely. Ana and I managed some studying on Wednesday morning.
Morning all..........a clue please for te7...and te8 please?
se7,36?
oops...was born in Anchorage but have only had the opportunity to return twice. Did get to see the Northern Lights--beautiful!
ok, I wasnt trying to exclude you or anything, you're always invited. I'm just scatterbrained
Yes Jilli. Warm clothes being the clue.
don't hate me and stuff
i need to go up to campus tomorrow to get my CD sleeve and stuff, so I 'll probably study some then.
no worries, I'm not offended or anything.
lol
Same ending as the em, mkl.
I'd like those te and se clues too, before bedtime, which is now - :D
how could i hate you? you host lost night tomorrow. I at least have to wait until we're done with Lost to start hating you.
I'm going to finish some property and then try some contracts. I think we are going to go over takings before lost night. I will need to go to campus too.
that's a good idea, studying before Lost. Chris doesn't get off work till 10 anyway.
jilli, which te and se clues?
Escuse me!!!.....Am I invisible?????
thanks again
no, Flask
Hey Flask! Submerged in the chatty chat, I think.
Hi Nonnie!

thanks for the t,s sprite
tried it on the last ga7. Didn't work
found it
mkl: something you play + nervous habit.
why can't the last ga7 be used as a single?
should be
I think it can, mkl, but it is not in the grid. You'd have to use the same A twice.
Nurtz. I'm getting loopy
how about a clue for the se7?
babble blindness - very common affliction
Could I have a clue for that ga7 please mkl?
bed time for the Leigh. Andy, call me tomorrow when you want to study.
jilli: se + short for mother + nervous habit
ga7: guys standing watch at the porch
night Leigh

which 2 do you have?
Sorry, Cybort, I don't have it; or the ga
ok Babble
Cybort which 2 do u have?
I have the ga 7, but how do I give a clue without typing in the word? First time here today...
Good morning. Cyborg, you can give a definition, or break the word up into syllables, or give a cryptic clue. A rule of thumb is not to give away more than 2 letters.
you said you needed the 3rd 8 word....so which 2 do you have........1st 2 letters of each word
If you scroll back through the log you should probably see examples of how people clue.
aq8 and ag8 I have
Hi Haz!.....do you have ga7?
so you are missing te8
Good morning Flask - only just arrived!
I also have 3 ga7
ah ok.......
te8 is a reference to people under 20 yrs old!
How do you know it is TE8 flask?
Morning all on this rather gloomy day but at least the winds have dropped. Anyone see the news about the tornado in London yesterday?
Yes it was dreadful!
Hello FMitch - I heard about it on the radio, but didn't see any TV pictures. At least poor Michael Fish can't be blamed this time.
Because I have found it!

Hello sprite!
hey Haz *hug* How are you doing?
I'm doing well, thanks, sprite. How did the physiotherapy go?
fame
painful, but educational :)
No pain, no gain?
Me to funny but cute I love Frosty also.I'm glad you sent it on I think that is cool! Mornin sprite
Well, it's all about learning to handle pain in a different matter, so I guess so :) I used to survive on willpower alone. Am now learning to pace myself, to pay attention to the body signals... learning slowwwwwly.
Somehow, slow and sprite don't seem to go together....
lol... I know. If there is something I am not, it is patient. But okay, I AM learning, even if it is slow.
*different maNNer, not matter, LOL!
so, you have a chronic condition with no cure; only management?
I remember my father telling me a story of when he was a young lad being sent to work on a farm. He and some other lads thought the old man digging was incredibly slow. They started off at a great pace, but ended up exhausted after a while. The old man kept up his slow pace, but was still going at the end of the day. Dad learned the lesson, pace yourself!
Correct, just have to learn to live with it - hopefully in a way that will enable me to get old with it.
Haz, that is a GOOD story. Will remember that. I am the start-out-running type.
I've taken the lesson to heart. I NEVER run.
Very good advice Haz and the older you get the more you realize that! lol
Flask did you get your sons shopping done? Is he getting a lot of goodies?
If not today to-morrow haz

mmm there sooo good
wolvie, sea salt?
I'll send you the recipe kthdsn
fleur de sel (sp??) - oh yea - just a sprinkle - you will be amazed
it's difficult to bake in our oven, it heats very unevenly so half the stuff burns while the other half doesn't quite cook
I would slap one one on each hip and walk around town(thats where they would go) bye
me hodag lol
annie here is a link to a truffle recipe I make that will get you going: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/reci pe_views/views/109085
well kate you dont bake them remember its no bake
ok, now I'm hungry!
LOL nonnie
LOL Nonnie
wolvie, goint to look at site right now
my "baking" usually consists of chocolate cornflakes lol
*going
oh kate, I can relate...my oven is on the fritz. I'll think of something wonderful to bake and then remember I can't! I hate that...
if you like chocolate, you will love them. I use El Rey 73% bittersweet chocolate for them
me too
chocolate cornflakes? I hesitate to ask - but - how do you do that? ;-)
lol choc cornflakes! :)
you take some cooking chocolate, melt it, stir in cornflakes, put in bun cases, and put them in the fridge to set
bun cases? you mean molds? Sounds like a cookie Mom used to make for me lo these many moons ago. :-)
you can melt mars bars instead of a gooey variation, or use rice crispies instead of cornflakes
what are bun cases?
bun cases are like muffin wrappers
why hello again hodag. ;-)
I use oatmeal
ahh - thanks kt!
the ones my Mom made had oatmeal in them too, hodag
This time I'm going
LOL - bye hodag.
we used to make them at easter and put mini eggs on top like they were nests

Hi, peri.
good morning
hi dorens
Hello, Dorens.
hi dorens and jacula
hi Dorens
Hi Dorens, Jacula, kth and all. Okay, finally realized it's Friday and updated my icon.
Hi Inge2.
hi inge
oh yeah - wil do that now
looks like a nice grid today
My goodness, Dorens, your icon today is full of clues!
only if you know the name of the cartoon, Inge, which most adults don't ( i think?)
good icon, dorens - I have seen that toon - not a lot tho
oh, it's crazy....i can only watch it after a drink or two, and with my kids, who think it's hilarious
updated
i've never heard of it, we mustn't have it here yet
thanks wolvie, i hadn't seen that word yet
Excuse, one of the wieners just threw up. She's okay now, and I'm back. I don't recognize the cartoon either, Dorens.
it is pretty twisted, as you say. But then, I like South Park too. ;-)
yw
ah, then maybe i should change it....not fair if it's not on overseas.... have to get to work, now... will change it when i'm back this evening. bye all
I dont know the cartoon in dorens icon but i love south park
bye dorens
actually dorens - you clued it all very well - I'd leave it. :-)
I can't stand south park, it drives me up the wall
it's on nickat night at 11 or thereabouts... if youlike south park, you'd probably like it annie
bye Dorens
oh really kt? LOL - I do like it. Odd, but I just do
Spongebob Squarepants is pretty weird, too.
I've never seen it. *embarrassed*
I can just about sit through spongebob

spongE
be back later
haha, kth
bye annie
I have the ca 6,21 that has to do with India's class system. I am missing the first ca 6,21. Clue please.
female house merk
female house?
a play on the word, merk - not a strict def. :-)
mexican house
spongebob stupidhead it should be!
Can you describe the third letter?
ca plus si 4, just end in a instead of e. :-)
I am missing the ca 4,5 before that then.
ah. sounds like a big sedan - double letter at end. autoo, if you get my drift. :-)
auto said with a rrrroll?
good one inge
That 'Boobah' kids programme is very weird. Paul & I caught it whilst on holiday last year. We thought the producers must be on drugs!
Kind of like New Englanders would pronounce it?
I've never seen the show jac but my husband hates it and the characters are really ugly
yes merk. :-)
Katie - you haven't missed much!
we new englanders would put an "ah" on the end.
well, IIRC, you do draw out r's when they are really there. :-)
on ca4, no r. We put rs where there are none. Like "That's a good idear" and "I'm going to drawr a picture".
that other one annoys me, i forget what it's called, it has stipey characters, a mole and a bird thing
But pahk the cah.
oh oh fimbles, urgh
meal bawx = mailbox
true true - I live in Ma for about 18 years - I still say that for fun sometimes
liveD
Katie - Not seen that one. Mind you, I rarely see kids' programmes now mine are grown-up.
:-) I haven't picked it up myself much, though I've lived here most of my life. But it sounds like home to me.
Oh, yes, Fimbles. The little girls next-door used to like those.
you're lucky jac, most of them are awful
it is fun, really freaks out these folks in NC, I can tell you
'In my day' it was Postman Pat, Fireman Sam etc. LOL.
haha, Wolvie, do you put one on sometimes for them?
oh yes - I am a baaaaaaddddd wolvie. ;-)
I loved postman pat lol
Me, too. *grins*
lol. I love a NC accent. So genteel and relaxed.
Happy Friday Everyone

Chiley - thanks for the clue! Hadn't spotted that word!
my family is originally from the WV/NC area, so I do tend to drawl my i's - I was born and raised in Mich, so I really don't have an accent. :-)

*spotted (no pun intended). YUK!

*bops CHS on the head for not chatting when he's done at the very least*
I wish.....I do't think they tend to go for 16 stone 28 year olds these days......
It would add some variety....
*wishes she knew how much stones were, why didn't she pay attention when she was told?*
14 pounds to a stone. We can only hope that movieman is very tall.

hi caitlyn!
Hello Caitlyn
I was scared to ask that hurshy !
Howdy Cait!
Hi caitlyn
I wasted more time on this one ... sp 5,14. A clue please
TO, I try to avoid FF outlets after getting mugged by KFC. This one is Indian in origin : (
I'm stuck on that one too Merk
anj, big outbreak of bad food at them around here
Ugh Ang, I had amoebic dysentary in Marakesh once.
green onions from california apparently
sp5/15..that I have is pl of s*** and span
Add a vowel to the tidy sp4 (or s plus the medical term for pregnancy cravings)
think i'll go get lunch
Add a vowel to sp4
sp5/14 star in virgo
<gets loo roll out of fridge and tosses it to Anj>
and same source as the spinach you'll note - readipac
Hi Haz, did you get some Christmas things done?
cheers everyone
*goes green* Uh, i'm off solids just now : s I think it was a raw prawn that did it...
How about a clue for the sp6/14 now please
yes. Ah-nold needs to get his health inspectors up to snuff
Oh Anj I feel for you
loo roll sounds like EXACTLY what you need, anj...LOL
I did indeed, Fmitch - spent a FORTUNE at the post office sending parcels off. Also purchased some velcro for the nativity play props. I'm definitely going to be named in the programme.
LOL and so you should been you knitting queen you!
LOL, the loo roll was in the fridge last weekend : s
Greetings Ga 5/14!
an old astonomical saying to locate spica...follow the arc to arcturus and drive a spike to sp***
...good clue ; )
chj said a word.........ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh
chic why are you calling us portals?
sp6/24 - latin plural of the sp5/14
sorry
I'm very surprised they have the sp 4/6. It's very offensive. Don't tell methey have kike and wop too
Thanks Haz
lol Bichon... i don't think dictionaries take offense into account. ;)
Those S's are a real pain today... Anyway must dash to work, be back later
I didn't know it had an offensive overtone - I would tend to use it alongside span to indicate cleanliness.
well, remember they also include homo and hebe and dago--jeez . . .
all we need now is tor
bye ren
it's fine in that context, haz :-)
Lots of latin endings about today...
ty caitlyn for a issed plural! : )
spic is used in the US and is very offensive
i mean missed...
comes from hispanic
But don't use it in the chat log, bichon!
tage
LOL TO

It is a ra6/21 term for hispanics...

Congrats chiley!!!

Congrats chiley !!
wtg chiley!
hello everyone
Thanks....guess I'll have to do some REAL work now.
hey, nan!
Hi nan!!
Hello cybernan - are you not early today?
Hi C-Nan : )
hello cybernan :)
yes -- I'm here because I need to work off my frustration -- I agree it may not be the best place!
Oh dear - why are you frustrated?
Bad day nan??
Picked up my new drapes yesterday. Got hubby out of bed early to help hang them and they are not right. I was hoping to have them up before Christmas, but goodness only knows now!
hi nan!
back in a bit
Why are they not right?
You still have over two weeks, plenty of time to replace them. Did they give you the wrong ones?
Thats very frustrating nan
Bye KAry's
Bye Karys
There was supposed to be an even number of tabs across the top of the 2 centre panels -- there are 17 -- after I specifically requested an even number so that the drapes would be evenly distributed on either side of the supporting bracket.
And have they put uneven numbers on both sides?
Can you take em to a seamstrees? They are usually very cheap (around here), get it done quickly, and you won't have to wait on a re-order? (Just a thought, I just but mine at Wally World and stick em on the hanger....)
you mistake is that it makes sense and therefore it is beyond their ability to understand
Isn't regatti the plural for an Italian boat parade?
LOL jan
the outside panels don't really matter but the two centre ones do as they gather between two windows when they are open -- it's hard to explain -- three windows, floor to ceiling, with two feet of wall between each and the brackets centred on the two feet of wall, so there has to be an even number of tabs on each half of the panel instead of a centre tab on the panel.
sp 5, 14 please
no, regatta is also the plural; it refers to a race or series of races
Have they said how long it might take to get them redone c-nan?
Merk add a vowel to sp4
I would explain your frustration to the people who made them and request that the tabs be redistributed. Hopefully it can be done quickly and they will want to have a happy rather than an unhappy customer.
back track the last verb for the things on the sp*** rack in your kitchen
I hope you are right, Haz -- will phone when they open
Help with a ga5/16 please. I have the one that children play.
I have friends in the interior design business - they are used to people needing things tweaked (although everything they have ever done for me has been perfect)
Oops. No, it's a 6/27. Got that wrong! It's the one before the reproductive one.
most ga4/7

As an old rock journalist, I'll have to look it up, drb.
Merk - the second sp5/14 is plural the term you find offensive
If the picture enlarged more you could see the word(s)
Ah, bless you, my friend.

LOL Design..Thats the trouble with todays youth!!
What's amusing is that I'm part of today's youth.
Woo hoo, cookies and booze, I'm in heaven!
I'll be 22 in March.

11

woo- hoo phand!
evenin' all...csan someone tell me if there are any double consonant words?
I have 8 QU...
yes
hi rolin!
yes i found one rolin
that is what I had, but using the list found the rest
Hi rolin
caitlyn...bicardi!!??...eeew..if you want real rum..ill pour your a bundaberg...good aussie rum
one of them was a qu 5/16 - meaning somewhat
another was an anagram of that
oh -- list... right. :-) I am trying to get 100 words before I hit the list. Only 20 to go
and the other one I found was qu 4/7 just drop the last letter of the anagram one
Yes please rolin..with ice please
i have the mire, and the measure
How many words do you all usually try to get before using the list? I'm new, so I rarely get more than 50 or 60 before I do...
1/2 for me
designbyrazor: i try to get at least 100. If there is less than 100 words, then I try for half.
Depends on the size of the grid or how much of a hurry I'm in, I like to get down to 20 before I pull it out.
got the last q! yay me!
I just go until I run out of words
you know its best with dry ginger...i was brought up on that..mmmm and i brought a bottle back when i came back last summer
well, any last second clues I might be able to give; I have 127 words
TO...a qu measure?
i can't get lickety when i am at work. so i am listless
not sure which one TO is refering too my self
depends... my goal for most grids is to get 100 words, then I go do my real work and play in the evening again. If it's a slow grid I use the list early, if it's a fast grid, I try to get below 20 words.
go phand go!
yippee TP!
oops. TO!!!!
going...
well it's not a measure i have been wrong all of this time *redfaced*
How bout those big ag's?

i'm having kind of a stressful day
it is hard to think now
i feel very unfocussed
what's the problem?
{{{hurshy}}} *sending comfort*
it's not a problem so much as my ridiculousness. it looks like i am taking a new (part-time) job and i'm kinda scared.
what will you be doing?
i don't know exactly. i think it will be good except for the commute, though. i'm just scared of everything. i'm stupid that way.
*sigh of relief* got the last Q 77 to go, taking a break
still teaching math, though?
i'll be still tutoring in the evenings. my tutoring was originally scheduled for the school day and 2 evenings, but the kids have not been coming during the day, and have been coming every evening. so that should work out alright.
at least they come -- my daughter is annoyed because they don't show up for labs then expect a make up exam when the skipped the lab the day it was held!
i wish i had not been born a wuss, that's all.
when i was five and my sister was 1, i would wait and see if she did things like going down a slide or whatever and came out safely before i would try it.

did he fight a dragon?
it certainly helps to have a dirty mind with this grid
You rang?
yes indeed DrB. The other day one needed to be a stoner, today the pervs abound
Tenacious D?
and the final word again turns out to be a plural of a word I already had
at least it was not "anent," the first word two of the last three days and my last word BOTH times (because I refuse to learn easy lessons)

LOL chj -- not you, too? sitting on heat at the moment, need to cycle to cold in a bit...
thanks y'all.
the sa starts out like something holy.
Oh, yes. In the scheme of competitive players, I *might* rank as a novice, but I don't think I'm that good.

chess is like bridge: 95% of the players don't rate as novices in the competitive groups.
okay riemann, here are the fellows unwrapping their St. Nick present... I need to take one of them actually playing, it seems. You might need to refresh to see it

Only question, I ever thought was hard Was "Do I like Kirk or do I like Picard?"
Picard is almost in the grid...
picard all the way doug....hi everyone!!!!!!!

hi Cathy, in my younger days Kirk, in my mature years, Picard
young kirk was definitely hot, but picard floats my boat at any age.

gramma, ta6/21, most docile
oooh...q was good...such a challenge for picard
sp6/24s are both plural of sp5/14, latin and english
i haven't heard that one douglas
First in my class here at MIT Got skills, I'm a champion at D&D M.C. Escher, that's my favorite M.C. Keep your 40, I'll just have an Earl Grey tea My rims never spin, to the contrary You'll find that they're quite stationary All of my action figures are cherry Stephen Hawking's in my library

or the plural of the dock qu?
of the plural of qu4?
or the qu that is semi/almost/pseudo?
That's all four - must be one of them!
there are 6 qu5's altogether

never been divorced i am clueless, divorce = shhot partner instead, make his life miserable, burn all his stuff and none of them are there :( :p
Hadn't intended to come back in here, finished grid hours ago. However, I've been hours doing a Christmad letter with photos, and am only halfway through it. Will finish it over weekend.
its is only my 3rd puzzle........and have 112 left.......lol
not bad rose .... took me a couple of weeks before I got to finish half the puzzles
Rose - the more you do it, the easier it gets. Babble, that is, NOT divorce!
Keep going rosewood. You will be hooked and won't stop until you are done.
OK................will keep trying.
oh man i dont think i'll be able to sleep tonight unless i finish this
onto the g's
LOL.............no divorce in this family..........*G*

Is the a bichon frise in your icon?
If anyone needs any clues, just ask. I am here for a while.
I need the sp6/24s please
Jac--yes--my last one is ti6/18 after the thing you wear on your head at the prom
BAK, how are all my lovelies?
miranda, have you tried the pl of that thingie on your head?
Betty - sp6/24 (1st) is the Latin ending for the sp5/14 before it. 2nd sp6/24 is the normal plural fo it.
NOOOO------geez--thanks aloyisius--you can't imagine how long I've been looking!!
been there, done that.. congrats to you miranda!!!
miranda - As Aloy just said, it's the plural of yuor sparkly crown.
Thanks Jacula. Appreciate it.
thanks, jac--good grief, tho--you would think I would think.....
ne/7 please
There's a reason why the number one selling item at the Babble store is the T-shirt that says - "when in doubt, pluralise EVERYthing" -- ;-D
miranda - it's quite a bendy word to find, andd, even though I had the word, it took me 4 goes with the mouse pointer to work it out on grid again. So, don't feel bad about it.
And a grand good evening to one and all on this chilly night :-)
you're too kind--but, yes, it does twist...
ne7 sounds a bit like a road drill.
Hiya Wolfie! And hiya Gwen.
thank you Jacula
an hi wolfie
eal meaning of ne7/36, should anyone wish to Google it is: Of or relating to the mesomorphic phase of a liquid crystal in which the molecules are oriented in loose parallel lines.
Hi GreyWoulf -- Just dropping in for a minute. Wouldn't you know it -- the day I don't have time to babble and there are 211 words!!!
howdy Rlee -- if you don't have it yet, the se7 is similar to the ne
Anyway, Wolfie - How is life and the family?
ne + mother nickname + dog parasite
Duff, I know the feeling -- that is why I use those days to achieve minigoals and go from there
have all s's but the first st 5/10 and sc 5/16, but thank you
Life is life, Jac -- never quite what you want, but always teaching you something you need
ga7/44 please
The family are doing well, I am over my sinus infection, Kirsten is almost over her cold, the kids are doing fine
Oh, Wolfie,. what you just said about achieving minigoals p[ut me in mind of 2 conversations I had with old friends' wives earlier... you would not credit that I had 2 such similar conversations in one day. Let me put it in a nutshelll - hubby has bone cancer, it has now migrated, it would be easier to say where he's not got it than where he has. He is dying.
Sorry about the downer there. Just relating my day.
Rlee -- the sc5/10 = frighten
*sneak sneak sneak* HOWL {{WOULF}} *running tackle*
play + dog parasite = ga7.44
hello again Duff!
have that one not the last
have to run.... numb#rs is on. check back on the ads
Hello Stidmama! Are you done w/ the grid today?
sc 5/16: like the first five letters of a beard that is unkempt?
Thanks Aloyisius
later arlene!
OOOOFF!! {{*Stid*}} You are getting too good at that -- I am supposed to be the sneaky one! :-D
Wolfie - I think we just got a chat reverse there. LOL.
hello Aloyisius!
yvw, BettyAnne
Glad to hear you are all doing well.
*grin* just glad to see you -- in real life I have been sitting on either ice or a heating pad all day and moving very very slowly...
oh no, stid -- what happened?
Jacula -- I was confused about who the comment was about, but sorry to hear someone's husband is terminal.
I think it's stress about the kids, but it could also be I just slept wrong and aggravated the chronic back problems.
Jacula -- I am also very sorry to hear about your sad news.
When I was at school in the UK in the 60s, sc5/16 was a cry heard from a pack of boys about to beat some poor wimpy lad up. 'Let's sc*** him, lads!'
and yes Duff -- I finished earlier while I was just sitting around... LOL need clues?
stid - 2 friiends hubbies are terminal.
thank you, couldn't see for looking
oh man. that stinks, Jacula. {{hug}}
9 more to go
If I had time -- I would ask for clues. I'm afraid I'm just here for a few more minutes. I think I am learning my lesson. If one is at all concerned about the "rankings" -- isn't it better to not start a puzzle if you know you can't spend much time and attention to it that day?
you have my complete empathy, stid -- you gave me flashbacks to september when my back went out -- why the stress about the kids?
stid - so does your bad back. 'Gentle hug'.
yes, that is true. unless your goal is to get onto the "Village Elders" list -- where it's total points that count, not averages!
thanks Jacula
Yes, Duff -- if you wish to preserve your ranking, then you should only start if you can finish -- an incomplete puzzle is worse than an absent one
Let's just say they are BOTH now exhibiting signs of adolescence... and both very much on restriction as of yesterday.
stid.. so sorry about your back; have you tried one of those back massagers? Just ordered one as a Christmas gift.
brb -- Kristianna is crying because she can't fall asleep and I don't want her to make herself sick
I need three more and hope you don't mind. I need the ra5/10 and the two ti6/21s please and then I'll be finished.
and gotcha, stid
Yes, Aloyisius, I actually have one that's about ten years old. The newer ones are very tempting... :-)
ra 5/10 is plural the 4/4 before
Stid -- I just like to play against myself. Regarding your back -- I have gotten so that every night I lay on a heating pad. After doing it for about a week, I decided that it helps.
BettyAnne, the ti 6s were my last. The little bird bushti* + male person; same with plural male
Thanks stidmama
I remember dancing and laughing only 20 years ago with these guys... now they are dying? Life sure as hell is not fair! I do know that no one ever said or promised life would be fair.
ra 5.10 = a babblet I usually miss seeing. It is ra + three toed sloth reversed and pl..
Jacula... Life is definitely NOT fair. No way.
Thanks stidmama and everyone else for your kind assistance. I love playing this game because you are all so very nice. Goodnite!
Bye, BettyAnne.. see you next time.
Thanks Duff -- yes, after nearly twenty years, I find that heating pads help the pain the most -- cold helps functionality -- stretching gently helps always!
yw bettyanne, see you next time. and YAY!
I agree life isn't fair. But it's always interesting... and sometimes it's a lot of fun.
Stid - exactly waht both mean's wivves said to me today.
yes indeed stid... we MUST find joy !!
Both men's wives, I meant.
Sorry, I am tired and a bit upset.
I've been told I should drink a bottle of wine each night.
Also, Stid, we have to remember that our climate is no friend to our aches and pains. You are right that stretching is very helpful.
yes. it's okay to be upset, Jacula -- {{hugs again}} -- even okay to be p'd!
I on't think I should. 3 nights a week is sufficient for me, at present.
a whole bottle, Jacula? *from a person who drinks less than 6 bottles a year...*
stid - I'm not p*ssed, though. LOL.
maybe the word means different things over there? over here it means really really angry...
A bottle here in UK, Stid is a mere 70cl.
Jac ~ I'm so sorry about your friends. I am upset because of another failed IVF. You have reminded me how lucky I am to have what I have. Thank you.
p*ssed here in UK means... drunk.
oh Minski -- {{{so sorry}}}
Minkski - oh luv! (((XXX)))
ah. well then, don't get p'd Jacula, just be sad and mad and whatever you need to be right now.
Incidentally, stid, p*ssed off means 'annoyed' here inn UK.
Just be however you need to be and give your friends as much love as you can while you can.
Good night all.
good night Minski.
good night, Minski... wishing you better times!
I think my daughter (19) may have got the meaning for just the word p*ssed though. The 'phone culture keeps on paring down our wonderful language.
It used to be that you couldn't say "p*ssed" on t.v. Now you hear it all of the time.
okay, I am going to head out too -- the boys are set up to play a game. good night all!
Good night, Stidmama.
thank you to every one who helped me to complete the puzzle
see you, stid.. hope your back improves pronto!
Mind you, my lovely daughter is, when she's been driving or coming up against officialdom, especially politically correct officialdom, the original Angry Young Woman. She can spell then! Oh, bless her!
and back -- she is still crying because she just doesn't want to be in bed
g'night stid and minski
I'm gone too.. long day today. TGIF !!! See you again in Babbleland; Happy Babbling and ci** for now.
Wolfie - take heart! Your darling little daughter, if you train her right, WILL come up loving 'the right kind of music', 'the right kind of values or life' and she may even be able to spell!
I say this with a sigh of relief as I realise that, despite all the... well, you regularars on here no what... she's... what is she? A human being. A humand being not so far from myself...
right now, all I want is for her to go to bed just ONE night without these shenanigans --- it is very frustrating and drains what little energy I have remaining at the end of the day
How old is she, GreyWoulf?
read her another story...
take care, Aloyisius
omg, can't believe the ti 6/21 can't be what i think it means
evening --haven't been online at night for a while. 86 more to go!
Aw, Wolfie! My daughter never did that to me, though she buggered my middle lif up! However, my son did that all the time to me. Cn you read her another story? If that fails, do what I used to do.. start singing.
She is three, duff -- and she has already had 3 stories, and a drink of water, and a piece of candied ginger to 'settle her tummy' and I put lotion on her dry ankles and socks on her cold feet..... she just likes pushing the limits
some day, you'll be yearning for those days when she wanted your attention at night...it all goes so fast!
Jac -- she is a very headstrong little girl -- if I try to do something she doesn't want me to do during her bedtime routine she starts screaming
ta da fireworks for me
.... too true, Babs, but it is sooooo hard to remember as she is behaving in such a contrary manner
anyone want or need clues before i go to bed
Yayyyyy for Sheryl!!!!
ty grey
Wolfie - if you can't bore her to sleep by eventually singing full versions of 'Oh Danny Boy', 'Jerusalem' and 'On Ilkley Moor Bah'tat' then take her out running around the block.
clue!! anything!!
Boy, I wish you were here to put me to bed!!!! My grandaughter is 3. Her mother hates me for doing this -- but when my grandaugher stays here and has a hard time going to sleep -- I take her blankie and put it in the clothes dryer so it's warm and cozy. She likes that -- but as I mentioned before, my daughter thinks I spoil her.
any clue for sc5/16
too cold, Jac ;)
there is no sc5/16 bright
sc5/16 s + cr4/7
Wrap up warm both of you, and then go. You will be wheezing befopre she is. But she may be bored... there's a big moon out there, if the sky's not cloudy... make a story from that...xxx
making up a story with a girl like her in it is fun for them...or helping them imagine they're floating on a cloud and have them tell you what they see
Duff, but that's your job! And unfortunately, I can't do the dryer trick as the apartment dryer costs money
duh yes there is s + the cr 4
hi all!
hey fran
hi Fran
hi sheryl!
hi again ml!
hey hey!
thank you Sheryl
hey smooth
hey there pappa
how is everyone tonight?
She has actually settled down at this point, but I have inserted her into stories and she does love that -- I added the Princess Kristianna to Jack and the Beanstalk as and object of rescue.... now if I try to tell the traditional version she corrects me :D
what's tomorrow's theme? I may go icon shopping
Are we getting anywhere yet with getting the little lady to sleep?
ml, most time-saving new product
Fran - your ga6/27 is most distracting!
hey jac!
hey, pappa! -- doing alright, though I have been dealing with a recalcitrant three yr old
why oh why do the commercials blast out of the screen?
sorry! :-)
hmmm, I couldn't find a suitable new product icon the other day. I may skip this next theme after all and just do a needlework picture
because the advertisers know that we tend to fall asleep during the main program
hey woulf!
arlene, it's so all the guys that have fallen asleep in front of the TV will get up and see what they're selling
I migh tjust go for a life as it is here or a Christmas theme later.
Dos!!
go gwen go!
go DocGwen
glurph
arlene, that was in a grid last week i think
Uno!
The new product theme I went for the other day was a bread maker. I've always been cr*p at working dough. I can cook just about anything else anyone could ask for, but yeast based things, no.
I don't much like what my bread maker produces, think it is no less heavy than my own efforts.
hmmm, 6 letters, starts with a C. Hey, it won't take that airline luggage word! LOL
However, rest of family seem o find breads from there okay.
I do a pretty good sourdough bread, and a not bad French or Italian
DocGwen
think type of eel
yes jac, i think bread makers make really dense bread
Good for you . metal. Every other recipe in the worldd - giv me a go at it, and I'll either do it or do a better version of it for the tastes of me and mine.
I agree, I think it is because most bread makers don't have the ability to properly allow the dough to rise the several times it needs to in order to be lighter
Franmag - thank you! You find it 'chewy' too!
i don't have a bread maker, but one of my husbands customers gave him a loaf that she made and it was very dense. tasted fine, but i like a larger crumb myself.
I love very dense bread... it reminds me of the bread I ate in russia... so subtantive
OK... got 100 words done... 111 to go...
go andy!!
help
gwen, do you have ca6/21?
Help with waht, Gwen?
need ca 6/21, the first one. Don't have any eel words here.
ca + spanish yes + abbrev. for thank you
(hit the enter key on relfex there)
hey, F I R E W O K S !!!
the eel is co6/27
this is definitely a slow finishing grid -- I came on with only 50 to go after finding the rest early this AM in the hour after the flip, but now I still have 23 to go (chatting contributes to the delay a little too ;-D )
(is that an eel? (she asked, too pooped to look it up)
yay gwen!!!!!
Oh, never mind 8-)
TY fran, any all
wtg doctor gwen
oh, *that* eel. I got that one ages ago LOL

Relationship advice for writers: If your chap is also a writer- FORGET IT! \hE will HAVE affairs because he writing and family times and 'we two' times won't coincide with yours. If YOU are the writer, take care again... you may find many men who see your talent and want the money coming in... thing is, they don't realise how many hours you m,ay need to be absent or ignoring to do that.
eunnie, you need ag that relates to biology and dividing cells. Take the g 6/27 and put and a in front

pi 5/12?
your clue was easier to understand though gwen, more thought out! :-)
jacula, are you someone I've sold in the book business? (so to speak)
thanks fran and gen~~
fran, TY
pi + ***er clear of obstacles on the road
*gwen
YOu may hae done, Gwennie.
phand, i guess it's french for a ski trail
yw eunnie
French ski trail - drunken. LOL.
Oh, Thnx Fran
jacula, your profile is way long but I see not your book titles. are you being anonymous?
the ski trail meant nothing to me since i haven't lived anywhere with snow!
brb, kids want food
Gwen - yes, I am.
hmmmm, jacula, may i ask if you would share your genre with us, at least?
hello all -- I see you're encountering my icon clue
(assuming you have a mian genre, like mystery novels or something)
main
hi jilli!
I know jacula has written restaurant reviews...
My profile is usually short.
(seems i caused jacula to clam up, no pun intended) Sorry!
no, not jacula -- franmag
I'm tired and shouldn't be here -- I told myself to write Xmas cards but I'm disobedient.
Lots of writers on this site, Gwen.
We all love playing with words, you see.
clearly! and not so many math-game lovers LOL
hi fran
Gwen - I didn't clam up, I just haven't written anything worth read ing in about a decade.
Well nt in my too strict opinion , that is.
jacula, that's fine with me, i carry lots of ten year old books 8-)
At least you've written something worth reading. All I've ever managed is "bibble bibble bibble"
back to the grid with 50 to find
97 here...
i write reference books, so i don't expect people to cozy up and read them if you kknow what I mean
Yah. I wrote a book on podcasting. That satisfies the muse. (sarcasm)
jilli - OHMIGOD! You mean you haven't got your Xmas cards all written, stamped and addressed, just waiting for the individual letters? Shock! Horror!
I've got that far. *grins in evil fashion*
I know it is silly, but I can't find the right combo for RA 4/4 after anger
(suddenly wondering if there are a lot of books on podcasting)
a few... probably about 10 by now.
oboy -- down to 10
ra + Anastas**
ok back. to find my last 40
. . . and plural
Mine's an ebook (which I find better for fast moving topics like this anyway -- updates are free)
andy, how do you make any money on an ebook? (not that writers ever make money)
Okay - even playing field now... we're all writers who have had books published... however... when the next grid comes, can we complete it?
You pay to download the pdf.
Hey, there's this neat grid of letters to the left of t his chat box. I wonder what THAT is all about? :)
Tnx Book dr.
andy - I've never paid to download oa pdf yet.
not me.... I read them...but write...not a hope
I think it is a conversation piece to break the ice, andy 8-D
hehe
pluarlise ..pluarlise . pluralise...
arlene -- you just made me think of the Tom Lehrer song with the chorus, -- "Plagiarise, plagiarise, plagiarise"
Nikolai Ivanovich Lobechevsky was his name, Aie!

FranMag -- thx -- 12 more to go
i meant ma 6/30

ma6/30 is the plural of ma5/18
no shame there, little silver -- the attempt is the key, the completion is just a small bonus
ma + ***t playing games with my heart

but oddly enough it works for the sp5/14s also! :-)
lol i keep forgetting... well, there was a big crash on the beltline on my way home... looked bad. I caught a commercial saing there would be a story at 10, but I forgot to watch. lol
EVERYTHING!!! IT'S A DRAG THOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!
and it's not on the local websites
oh, I hope everyone is ok.
sorry to hear that, Narnia -- too much homework?
on car was backwards against the median, a van was in the ditch on the right side of the road... three lanes of traffic away, plus oi think there was another car that wa s pretty smashed up... didn't look like e veryone was ok... a firetruck had fish hatch blocked off, two cops had the center lane blocked, and they were clearing the left lane...
ouch! I hate driving on the beltline
No! surprisingly, no that much @ all!
1st st 5/10?
yeah... it was pretty clogged tonight!
Well, then what makes it a drag?
At least you do try to keep abreast of the news, smooth. Unlike another meember who does not watch orread ews 'in case she might see something unpleasant'.

Hi, I don't think I'll make it - 87 left!

I think I'll do like stid does sometimes and work my way through the big ones down to the little one!

ag 6 21 is the plural
has anyone been able to get back on yahoo messenger yet
last ar 5/10?
ramix said it's still down
not i
ar + ***tafarian
a double consonant vowel consonant
how many points do you guys have?
total is 2667
same as ar 5 10 before, but change the second vowel to a consonant
where do you find points?
Why do people ask how many total points?
under the word list volley
got it ty
angb, if you're not pro you don't have stats so you don't know how many words total
and you don't get fireworks when you finish
Ahhh....
so people ask how many points to check if they are finished.
or to check what they might be missing
Would be awful to be finished and not know - bad for the nerves
brb need coffee
sorry, you probably didn't need a dissertation!
It's appreciated fran
Better than staring at the grid and not finding words LOL
:-)
what is pro?
pro is when you pay the $14.95
you get tile and word stats and an icon and flag.
is there a trail period? because I see the total words and points and have gotten fireworks a couple of times???
trail = trial
yes nonnie, two weeks is the trial period
through the g's are done
go TnC go!!!
ah, I see...thank you Fran
i think after the trial period you'll still see your totals, but you won't have tile and word stats.
ohhhh, that's not good...better get off my fanny and pay for this puppy.
$14.95 for life is not bad
Then you can have a flag Nonnie and tell us about yourself.
ma 5/18?
the first one
ma + ***t while you're ahead (not really)
You're right, $14.95 is very reasonable!
the only one
True, Angb :o)
it uses the high point tile
ty
go TnC go!!!
44 left
nonnie, no offense, but when i see your name i always wonder if there is a high-calorie nonnie around somewhere.
you're doing great TnC!
