another good tip for stopping spraying that worked for me is to shake pepper all over the carpet where they spray - do it daily for a week and that stopped our problems

We only had six groups of kids! There are two colleges in town and several senior centers...all pass out goodies. We even decorated the front porch thinking that would attract the little ghost and goblins.
we had about 2 dozen halloweeners and thats about normal for us
i had at least 300 children before we started having to turn them away. I don't like doing that- but it was starting to get late and our "neighbors" party was starting up.

Our neighbor's party kicked in about 10pm but I'd headed to the back part of the house and thankfully couldn't hear a thing.
I prefer to trick ro treat myself today when everything is cheap!
i was able to keep track of how many kids because of how many popcorn bags we used up
i just get angry when the older kids come around without any costume at all- not even a small attempt at one, and just hold out a bag and don't even say trick or treat
I always took my rbotehrs around and dressed up too - I still got candy but at least I tried. The idea of trying without a costume just sounds like you're begging.
After our kids got to be too old for that, we stopped too, for exactly that reason

We didn't have any of those this year but in the past that seemed to be all we'd get, kids in no costume. I was always tempted to say, "no costume, no treat" but couldn't bring myself to do that.
BTW, the little baby is my Halloween-born g'daughter Savannah

Speaking of TV, I've watched the first 2 of 4 episodes of the TV series 'The Tudors' that I recorded. It's dreadful unless you look on it as pure fiction... apart from the historical inaccuracy I have so far spotted a Victorian sprung horse carriage from Victorian times and 2 radiators! That's when I could tear my eyes away from all the rampant frolicking going on!

Boring, probably, but here goes...Hubby and I were visiting my mother in Westchester County, NY, north of NYC, and there's a commuter train station about a 5 minute walk from her apartment. Hubby had business appointments in the city and took the train to the office. There was a newspaper seller on a landing of the stairs to the raiolway station, and he used to buy the NYTimes there to read on the train. It cost 10 cents in those days.

So hubby threw the great big heavy NYTimes back at the agent and said "Well, that's no good either."

The Canadian dollar was worth more than the US one for several years and the financial world did not collapse. I think Canadians shouldn't just expect to be inferior to ANYONE in any way, and unfortunately I think too many do.
A serious question - Are you still allowed to celebrate Christmas in UK and Canada? I ask because the latest report the Government here has been asked to discuss is the toning down of Christmas in case we offend other religions. Those of 'other religions' have phoned, e-mailed etc., in droves to say how ridiculously over the top 'PC' this idea is.

There was a period when it was hard to find a card that didn't say Happy Holidays or Season's Greetings, but there are many more again whichsay Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Happy Christmas and little red robins are UK -- our robins are big American ones, lol!

and see my other fear is that my kids will be upset I didn't do enough with them while their dad is in hospital in another city

carlee, when my dad was sick and in hospital, and later at home, mom did what was necessary - we had clothes, food, got to school and music/sports. Dad was bedidden and couldn't talk, and hard and awful as all that time was, i know she, and we all, did the best we could. Having 20 years to look back on it, i see that clearer than ever now. Did we feel shorted? no.
Please don't be afraid of your kids' memories!

I think it shows strength of character... teaches the kids to care and be good to others. My in-laws are a tribute to not caring cause they never ever had to care for anyone sick. My MIL fell apart after 10 days looking after my home duties (this last time in hospital for me) and ran back home, leaving her son to do everything. So, my kids have perhaps learned to love and care for those who can't do for themselves, and they hopefully won't look at it as a nasty chore.
