I'm staying with my scottish clan badge for now because it's the REAL St Andrew's Day
finally bought a car -- my old car died over 2 months ago -- been a hair-raising time borrowing cars to go shop for a car . . .
finally found a 9 this is a busy grid =) and hello everyone
congrats, gwen. what did you choose?
hi mel!
oooh, clan badge -- very nice!!
hi, mel!
hi mel
i chose a friend's tartan, jilli
hello all, up to 100 this is a fun fun fun one =)
finally hit half way, need to go get ready for sleep. luck in the grid, ya'll
dc, the only car i could afford (apart from some that were ready to fall apart) so it wan't really a choice. it has two doors, four speeds and it goes. Nuff said 8-)
g'night jes!
night jes!
nice one, dc -- I hadn't refreshed but now I see it!
nini Jes, rest well
is tartan the theme? how nice
yeah, remember how that can go, gwen.
no, something scottish for St Andrew's day, or a word form the grid today. I just happened to've chosen a tartan
plan to pay this car off while saving for a "real" car
that or8 is one I've never seen before. I monkeyed it too, but all I can say is "huh"
Gwen, "Something Scottish" was yesterday's theme but today's is a word from the grid
shucks, i wan't here yesterday and missed the scottish thingies! 8-(
this is a tough grid. i cant even get an ae word!!!!!!!!
mkg, think eagles
birds nest(s), mel
dc -- did you find my tartan? It's in the link in my bio
love the blue/black on it, jilli!
shrex should be a word . . .

ossie must have gone?
i guess, haven't seen her

i havent seen him....but there is a firemanrfdny in the rankings

is this place full of tangleworders?
getting to be jilli...lol
i never played tangleword, nor had heard of it until recently.
what is tangleword
night nan, you fast woman, you, lol!
g'night nan
but we're all friendly gaming people
hi everyone! got knocked off the internet, cable company had no explanation!
night nan!
wb, fran
I think one should say what WAS tangleword -- no?
tangleword was a grid like this....only smaller and you had 2 minutes to find all the words you could, against many other players
volleymom/helenkeller/myself/ossiea/ba nanafour/ariesbc/firemanrfdny/ squidsink and a few i cant think of now
oh okay what was tangleword?
like boggle I bet
same size as this nana....5 X 5
volleymomdee plays also
flosey too
oh duh, you said her. :-)
I hate the pressure of a time limit, which is why I love babble
this just seems larger for some reason
2 minutes is not that long of time
new glasses? lol
and you could rotate the grid to see it from all sides, that was a nice feature
lol, i need new glasses, can't see anything
what happened, did tangleword go kaput?
what happened to it?
flosey played tangleword? I didn't think so -- bridge and babble as far as I know
iwin.com just cancelled it and all of their other classic games
ha ha dart! (nana did say you were a brat) :-)
might be a different flosey
that happened to me with atari and boggle too
2 minutes...same as this....1 pt for a 4 letter word...2 pts for a 5 letter word etc....1 bonus pt if you get the word before anyone else does.....about a minute break between games...then another 2 minute games.....20 per hour or so....it was fun...taught you to look fast lol
lol fran
brb
i don't have enough time for babble let alone any other games!!
there is weboggle that is similar
sounds too competitive -- again, I like babble because it's cooperative
hi MVA
hello, mva
i agree jilli
is there a small clue available on the or 7 or is it an 8?
bedtime here - may be back early tomorrow but will be off island most of the day
goodnight all
you would get a ranking...that would go up or down....depending on how you scored...and how everyone else playing that particular games scored....you could also chat to someone in a private window....or public to all like this chat here
flosey -- did you ever play tangleword?
i noticed Sprite's been MIA for a few days. Is all right w/her that yall know?
night flosey!
g'night flosey
havent seen here either
her
no jilli, have never seen it
she's on holiday
dunno, dc -- I missed her too
me too
me three!
babble and bridge enough for me
ah, i was hoping that was the case, ata, ty. hello to you too!
and hi :)
ok, flosey -- someone said you played it but I didn't think so -- it nolonger exists, apparently
think they spelled their name flossy
hi ata
hi ata
hi everyone :) nice size grid tonight!
hi, mrp!
hiya mrp :)
oh maybe that was it....i wasn't in there as much as dart, he'll remember everyones name...lol
hi mrp!
hello mr p...
hi dcs, dart, mva, ruru et al! good to see you
hi mrp --did you sell the house yet?
but i thought you had everything written down nana.... :)
don't know where my little book is, haven't used it in years
ossie gives me the countdown to my birthday....when im going to retire lol
fading. good nite all
nite ruru
g'night, ruru
lol
nite ruru!
she's taking over for me
I guess mrp is buried in the grid and didn't see my question...
night ruru
have to get to bed, goodnight all....60 left to go
lickety said auction is tomorrow, if they got no offers today
think the auction is saturday...lickety was in earlier and said all the possibilities earlier in the chat

phantom: trattoria
nite dart
oooook..
we let all the archaic scottish words in...but i cant have etrog?
howdy, ro
oooo whats etrog?
an etrog is a special kind of citrus fruit...used in the jewish celebration called succot
hey dc
oooo *files away new word*
hi rolin!
hey mva
and pogo isnt allowed
etrog is a type of citron
enable is a silly thing
flip, time to go, dress rehearsal for Christmas concert, fingers crossed!!
tartier not allowed either
hello again people!
bye mva!
hi franny!
hi ata!
phantom: termite
i give up at 156 words. this grid it too much for me.
hey fran
you got more than half mkg, that's the size or a regular grid. :-)
hi rolin!
eyes slamming shut -- 76 left for tomorrow if I find time -- good night all and ahve fun
hoorah, a bigger grid! hello all
night jilli!
hi lynxxx!
see -- I can't type -- zzzzzzzzzz -- *poof* (hi lynxxx and bye)
nite Jilli
i see tora is in here but etrog isnt.......it amazes me how the dictionary picks and chooses.......
g'night jill
hello, lynxxx
*nodding*
*nodding*
i saids the same mkg
oh sorry, i gave a word. apologies. must sleep.
yes, enable is...amazing... mkg, hello
Hi DC! have you been away again?
hi again dc!
i was away last weekend, then a bit erratic this week.
darn, i guess gortex is a brand name
and gorhen is a phantom
Hi Ata!
darn, i miss the bloody chicken!
okay. just enrolled in my 1st uni class in 16 years.
congratulations dc!
yes, gortex is a brand name - i tried it too.
whatcha gonna study dc?
5 credits of arabic, meeting MW 15:30 to 17:50.
are you ever going to use all the languages you have to earn a living DC? you seem to have so many
i wonder when we'll find out what books we need. 435.50 is the cost. When list a was enrolled 5 credits would have cost 100.00. academic costs have gone up ridiculously through the years.
i actually use more than a few of them in my job, and have learned some Dutch and Swedish and Icelandic because of my jobs. I've used Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, Chinese, French and German fairly regularly.
"iterator" is not in the dictionary?!?
phantom: trattoria
atbash, you will come to grok and love the quirks of Enable. :)
lynxxx, that was the first word i tried
atbash..but you can find the 9 using the same words
letters
thanks for the hint Rolin
rolin, yeah, already got those 54 points :)
me too
thanks rolin, that was my last 9. :-)
np fran...its my only one so far
let me know if you want stats for the other 2
i was about to say that, fran :)
:-)
i would have just said what they were, but i didn't want lynxxx to yell at me. :-D
if any of you play bridge, you may find this of interest: http://tinyurl.com/yu5emd
hang on to that for jilli dc, she went to bed already.
(and I know you really wouldn't lynxxx) :-)
right. catch her tomorrow
OK OK so I shouldn't have said anything about that list!
ROFL, i just thought that whole thing was funny, i didn't for one minute think you were really mad.
hello everybody. 97 to go.
hi bb!
Hi bbnaz!
hello, bb!
i have yet to come across any 9s
how about any of you?
just one here
any clues for the sy?
if you scroll down a bit, rolin gave a good hint for one
last word for me
KT, computer lingo
Hi Knight!
the sy*tem **erator
the sy is not a word in my brain, but an acronym, thoug i remembered to enter it today.
oh no, say it aint so
i always thought it was an acronym too
TY Fran
i actually had that job back 25 years ago
i'm willing to say it is so
yw lynxxx!
KT, i think you said that the last time it was in the grid, some words just get blocked out. :-)
and congrats Knight!
yes rolin that was an excellent clue
so now i have one 9
wow, true
to me it is not a word, but an acronym
yep, but i'll remember it if enable thinks it's a word. :-)
bb, do you want stats for the other two 9s?
i'm w/fran on that one.
oh yeah, yay KT!!!
congrats, knight!
got so lost on the silliness of the word, forgot your victory :)
that or8 is weird
not yet but thanks Fran. I am lost within the hunt for words still.......
cool bb
i don't have that one yet dc, looking now
found another 9!
go bb go!!
yay bb
how many points is that or8 dc?
woo hoo! found the ar8
40
thanks ata, just found it!
and the male version is a phantom. :-)
very strange word!
it doesn't quite roll off the tongue, no wonder we don't use it
found another 9 similar to a word yesterday
yay lynxxx!
well done, lynxxx
99 left. back later!
bye ata!
bye Ata
re7.36 anyone yet?
bb, shave some cheese off the block again
tyvm fran! finished those pesky re words
wow! wtg bb
and your turn, fran :P *really goes*
hee, bye ata!
ha! that brat plays a bingo and then runs. :-)
*the echo of mad giggles fades*
LOL
I left you a nice triple though :P *really REALLY goes*
and don't think i'm not taking advantage of it. :-)
those 1st re words are largely odd
like the ones who raise things?
babies in particular
ah, verb, not noun. Okay. not so odd then. :)
:-)
i do that with the word deash, i always think it rhymes with leash
deash parses right in my head for some reason. It annoys me that retar is not accepted. we retar roofs here all the time, at least in the city.
and of course i try it every time, like today again. :-)
me too :)
for hope springs eternal, at least for optimistic me
retare is anther one. One retares a scale.
you never know when dr_g is going to update the dictionary...someday it might work
true. otoh, for what we pay, i've not really any complaints
and why wouldn't the one who does it be a word?
retarrer, retarer. hm. who knows
that ro8 isn't part of the vocab here - we call them circles
hmm, don't have that one yet, looking
got it!
we had one in Guam
one?
yes, one! :-)
*blinks bewilderedly*
it has the archbishop flores' statue in the middle
we're litteed with them here. they baffle the tourists who try to drive in the city.
was he one of the early spaniard's there?
if you think about it, Guam's roadways were relatively new, especially compared to DC
i giggled the when i learned the language is called Chamorro.
no, he was the first Chamorro Archbishop, he died in the 90s
when the roads were built, streetlights for intersections were already in use
why did you giggle dc?
morning all how are u
that word means 'shorn' in Spanish.
hi cool!
morning, cool. I'm well, and you?
oh! well, that is funny!
made me wonder if it were a coincidence, or a spanish discriptor naturalized.
it's also the name of the people, they were probably named by the spanish.
Hi Cool - no flag etc yet?
my tartan and ur purple are comlpementary.
Magellan was the first European to arrive on Guam
that's right! no wonder cool didn't ask for the stats, she has them!
oh, right, i'd forgotten about that.
i haven't found a word that inspires me to get a clue icon yet.
very well i seem to be on a winning streak at the moment i entered a comp to win an i pod system a couple of months ago and won and then i entered another one to win family tickets to a show and won that in forty years ive never been lucky and now 2 at once
awesome cool, time to buy a lottery ticket perhaps?
quick quick - buy a lottery ticket - ggod luck supposed to run in 3s
i third that!
fran...could i have the re\=cheese clue again pls
lynxxx, i was about to mention the 3 thing!!
they say it happens in threes how do i get a picture on my name
rolin, shave cheese off a block or take the zest off a lemon again
go to my account, and add it, either from a URL or upload
there's a word other than zest for that?
well, it's what you do to get the zest
yes, you zest the fruit.
or what you do to potatoes to make latkes
oh, the tool
good one lynxxx
oooohh...thamnks for the latkes...most timely really..lol
shred is the verb for that, lynxxx :)
but, again, same tool. :)
my clue was for the re7/36 and "plural" for the re8
yes, found them, thank you
i want to try making latkes, but i've never tried them and wouldn't know if they came out right. :-)
ok..i have to take a break.. im gonna go into work for 3 hours today...just cos i have to...
okay rolin! see you later!
getting dark here - time to organise some dinner - & turn some lights on - BBS
fran..the trick if fine grating...squeeze the water out really well...make sure you use fine matza meal for binding not flour or breadcrumbs..and your oil has to be really hot
late lynxxx!
ciao, ro; g'night lynxxx
i mean later!
thanks rolin!
as i was raised, you need starchy potatoes - equal part those and onions gr5ed together, sometimes some parsley added, pat together and fry. We never use binders.
hot oil very important
has pink been on yet
taties onions eggs lotsa salt and pepper.. meal for binding....
no cool
not that i've seen, cool.
uh oh, obviously there are variations. :-)
yes, that's more common than our way, i think, ro
16 to go so will hit the sack for now. just cannot see anything further at the moment
g'night bb!
night bb! sweet dreams
i think she will be back on shortly i no shes missed you all it was her who got me on pro as a xmas gift
good night everyone. good to see my late night babblers
that was a great gift cool, something you're going to use for a long time. :-)
finally vanquished the Rs
well, i have 50 to go, but the daughter has a check up in the morning so i better get to bed
go dc go!
pleasant dreams, fran

one who te4/4, bb
oops, the second one after the mammary
also the tr8.40
tr8 - ones who don't trick
smack the head...thanks dc
2nd te6/18 rhymes with a form of discretion
well, no C
no idea.....
te+re4/4 -- the one in the middle
oh dc i LOVE you
:D Congrats, bb!
rockets and I can now go to bed
sleep well
ta and see you later
morning all
at ist glance this seemrd like such a easy grid, but with more than 80 words still to find, I'm struggling!!
morning, ishult
it's not too awful. though it taking to4 but not etrog was a bit baffling, if typically Enable :)
Del Boy & Rodney are in the grid! Apologies to non-Brit TV watchers....
cool w/me Ray, i've not had TV in 3 years now.
gah! i spent years studyng the Inquisitions. I shoulda had that he6 long ago. sigh.
anyone have a cule for ar5/12 and ar8/40?
Hi dc, the ar8 is what carries blood from your heart to other parts of the body, Don't have ar5 yet.
ty, cat, that should have been obvious
Hi. ar5/12 = ar + 'encountered'.
you're welcome, more often than not, the obvious escapes me in the grids :)
thanks, Jac :)
y/w
ty, Jac, firewords fro me :)
i am tired. that took much longer than i'd expected.
Yayyy dc :)
im missing a d... i have the clothes x 2 and the tea left overs

I wasn't on during the weekend
Oh thats right sorry been sick with a head cold which is threatening to turn into a sinus problem
i'm eating full-fat fudge-striped shortbread
Yum Dc. I am eating 300grms of raw meat
whatever for?
Raw me4?? Why?
infern?? why you do that?
Cause by nature we are omnivorous. Ok the dead cow is rare
a serve of meat is 150gm... what you doing eating 300gm of 'raw' meat!? that is not good for you
Oh, steak.
I know that but i need it. I haven't had cow is a long time
300gm seems reasonable. OTOH, i live in the States. :)
it is raw?
rare
500gm of meat is acceptable in texas and arizona
it said hello to the grill them went away
Just checked weights of steaks I've got for weekend - 276g and 394g.
Blue ra4 steak then, hERIN.
i just started i cant be blamed for entering words into the chat
We'll blame FMitch then shall we, Herin?;)
jac, your icon makes me sad, as it reminds me that The Scottish Walk, the only reastaurant in the region that served haggis weekly, is no longer extant.
why blame fmitch?
I have a haggis in my freezer, dcs. I could throw it over if you wish? See the si4 on my bio for haggis cams and games.
MrP - FMitch takes the blame for everything. LOL
oh, she is a card! such a lovely lady!
MrP - see the thread Babbland Roles and Responsibilities under General in BabAnon.
hello again.
Hello, lynxxx.

ar6/30 means: "a large merchant ship, esp. one with a rich cargo."
we have been so lucky... many tax refunds equalling too much... and lickety got a huge bonus from work. We are happy to wait with the sale of the house to get what we want now. Luck has turned our way
THat is lovely mr pres you deserve it
It is so nice to be 'comfortable' for once, in a while anyway
I really want to book a holiday for the family
good day everyone
ar 6.30 --- Jason's ship and windows XP is an operating **stem

(I hope I'm not the only one who "gets" that)
I got it
i thought it a terrific sugestions, marmar
bite our thumb?? what does that mean?
yea
I am thinking to err is human and to forgive divine, mrp, ma'am (course nothing to forgive)
Dost thou bite thine thumb at me?
is that a theme?
elizabethan era rude gesture.
"I bite my thumb at you" Shakespear quote
ah, that is an insult
Mr PRes. It basically means 'No i just give you the one finger salute mate'.
But with you its said with loe
love

Hiya dc ;-)
Its been stinking hot here

50 still to go, need to take a break
ciao, ishult
Later ishult
Hi Matt & Ishult (& bye)

oh crap ..we just got a winter storm watch..starting as 4-8 inches of snow..changing to freezing rain up to 1/4 inch from sat- sun...YACK
the joys of life in the Great Lakes. May that it be the lesser amt.
bab rab you are so right...;-) I know Lyn,I just jump in and out. Hi Matt, bye Ishult...;-)
Snow see this is why i dont migrate OS to England or Canada or anywhere with snow
no kidding dc... i HATE winter...
we didn't have one last year. Just two weeks of snow/ice in mid-Feb. This year, many of us expect more. We'll see.
rather snow than floods fires and hurricanes
MrP, I was gone for a minute missed, don't misunderstand, you were saying "hurt me", "shoot me", I thought you were being too hard on yourself....and I always compare the "bite my thumb" (like my high school English teacher told us) as sticking out your tongue at someone. A gentler alternative to your comments. Didn't want to offend you. Sorry.
At first it is pretty after that it sucks!
i want to move to egypt....dry adn sunny...10 months of year with glorious heat..and 2 months of temperate sunny mid 60's - 70's
Carlee move to Queensland
and a modern infrastucture, yes good deal that it seems.
great foods...great night life... great people with great sense of humour
marmar!! I am sorry, I am so oversensitive lately! didn't realise what I was doing... I apologise
and its not $ there
malt, it's kinda neat when the eye of a hurricane passes over. The birds all come out and fly around, then dissappear again about 15 min before the rain starts again.
you are of course right! I am being hard on myself and carrying on about my pain. I really don't want to take it out on you guys! I love you and am sorry
the ipcc's synthesis report predicts warmer winters, hotter summers and earlier planting in north america ..... a process that will continue unless ghg and carbon emissions are curtailed now
no thanks Ill take a nice snow fall in my hottub
My cat stunned her self out this morning. SHe decided to attack a bird ON the other side of the glass
Mr Pres hugs
yes, we've had earlier plantings and bloomings, and later leaf changes here for some years now.
hee. mine haven't yet done that, though the younger one may yet.
A brief good morning to everyone ... how's the grid and how are you Herin?

lori, matl & dame, I wuold like your home addresses so when I visit the maritimes I have a place to stay :-)
Thanks for that!
No problem Our Bed and Breakie is Very reasonable lol
You're a Joysey gal Esprit? I always thought you were further south. ***I have a terrible memory***
Good morning. Yes, I too would like everyone's home addresses so that I can plan vacations and lodging. Jean, will you come visit me?
scrabbler . . . be careful what you ask for
I flew to an island in the Indian Ocean to stay with someone I met on line
Hi Scrab
We would laugh SO much!
Good morning Scrabbler! Feeling better I hope.
yes, and that's the BEST therapy scrabbler
Wow, did you get married too?
did I SAY it was a man!?
Yes, Lori. I played tennis on Sunday and Monday and my sacrum is holding (me) up well.
Where do you live, Jean?
it was a wonderful funny woman who I think of as an x-rated Mrs. Doubtfire
No, but I was wondering, Jean.
I am in chicgo suburbs, but originally from NJ
One of my sisters lives in northern NJ.
of course, she DID have this cute french husband
we are a great beach
rerate
Ahh okay Esprit. Once a Joysey gal, always a Joysey gal! :-)
my family still is in nj
Scrabbler! Some people do anything to get the champagne and chocolate......
Damn, I wanted to give Lori a "re" word, LOL, but that one isn't accepted.
I NEVER in my life tawked like that Lori
give her re**** to rip again
My Sister is in Bergen county.
LOL Esprit. No stereotypes in me what?
mine is in monmouth county
TY, Jean
I have the re's done. Now i can enjoy the grid
Yahoo, Lori. You ate the cake, now go for the frosting.
going to see Jersey Boys after Christmas
yo, how can you eat the cake before the frosting?
Are those 4 D words all with the prefix DY*? Anybody get that far yet?
I have 71 words. I have decided this is a 71 word grid......
no, some dr words
more than that SCrabbler
Ah, yes, there is an R next to the D---I am often blind when I start grids.
we're here to hep ya sistah scrabbler
I did notice that X in the middle.
that was one of my other personalities, from alabama
***Lori ponders her ability to count to 4, and remains oddly silent***
Sistah, were y'all hot down theyah in Alabamy?
I will help, Lori. 1-2-3-4
honeychile, I am ALWAYS hot ...........ssssssssssssss
I shoulda known, Sistah Jeanie
lol
I was born in Hotlanta myself.
I was waiting for a menopause crack!
how do you know if you got all the re words?
There are 4 d words, and what does Lori do? Claim there's more than there actually is. ***sigh***
ask Lori, she keeps track
If you can count, (unlike me) and have 19 of them , then the re's are done.
she also talks to herself a lot, but she's harmless
what do the numbers on the letters mean?
i will let you know when I have a hot flash--it effects things and the National Weather Service hasn't figured out how much menopausal women cause global warming.
maybe Al Gore can do a study
It is An Inconvenient Truth that menopausal women have hot flashes.
Down - thats the point score for each letter...have you read the Help just above
*fans self*
LOL G'd morning Jacula
are you flashing again Jac!
I am feeling a hot easterly wind rush across the Atlantic Ocean.
I'd venture to say the estrogen power in here could warm a small country
I must get ready for my tennis match. I shall return this afternoon. Enjoy the day everyone.
bye scrab
bye Scrab
'Bye Scrabbs.
Have a good one Scrabbler
I'll be having High Tea with the Queen l ater meself
lynxx - Not right at this moment but I couldn't resist when I came in a saw the convo.:)
Jac - I could just see you whipping open your trenchcoat
I thot we were talkin' menopause not exhibitionism
LOL, lynxx.
not that there's anything WRONG with that
Jean - when you have a hot flush/flash you whip everything off anyway ... if possible.
ok, I managed to escape that
...not at the supermarket checkout (where they ALWAYS occur) of course, just your coat there.
and this is all Adam and Eve's fault anyway, isn't it
Is it, Jean?
*checking my notes*
yes, it was all because of that apple incident
Oh, yes, for making us have to wear clothes in the first place, etc.
seems like Adam got off easy tho
Strictly speaking it was the serpent's fault for tempting...
no, he had to put up with Eve!
well, he was not under orders from God not to eat the fruit
LOL, lynxx.
the serpent was not under orders
60 left, time to call it a nite...bye everyone
sleep tight lynx.

whoops, sorry babs -- the pastry was a to -- but the other clue should do okay. the other is one who attempts
Evan, sy --person who operates a computer bulletin board...right out of dict.com
thanks annie -- i was working the right beginning, but couldnt noodle that ending!
Got all of the T's.
100 left - time for a break - BBL - bye all and happy babbling !
thanks, peri! got it!
YW Babs

good morning babblers
Good morning Flosey
morning, flosey!
and hi, Mom
yesterday was fun. we had a water treatment system installed. no more hard water, and no more need for bottled drinking water.
{{Annie}} hello
by annie - hi Flosey and Mom --- "POOF"
hello
hello jane
time for me to go. Hope to see you all later. Hugs to all
Hi Harp
Angel, everyday will get better and better
bye, {{{Mom}}}
does anyone have clues for the to7s please?
bye bye Annie
sorry, flosey, I dont
just got them,
was trying to make them more difficult !!
do you want clues Annie?
Annie, at least we've done what we can to help prevent damage to appliances, pluming and the AC unit.
flosey, would love some clues
Angel, are you completely moved in?
one is plural of to6 and the other - if someone has had too much to drink, they might become to7 - unstable on their feet
ok found 110 on my first go round, bbl
and, in doing so, we've increased the value of the property, I think.
thanks, flosey
I had that one...I would need to 7 flosey...have the unstable person
hi everyone!
hi everyone!
Annie not the person, but the way they might walk
Hi Owl!
not yet finished unpacking, but nothing is left in the apartment, Annie.
hey, TO...
I have that one flosey
ok i have an icon clue now
hey angel, how have yo been?
Angel, then you will celebrate Christmas in your new home...that is wonderful!
yes, it is! I'm looking forward to it hugely. Our Christmas tree will go up this weekend. and I'm going to cook a feast.
I'm peachy, TO. I feel much better since I'm out in the country and away from so much noise.
thanks Jane for your icon clue
hi annie!
Hiya, Owl!
yw angel, does anyone else have an icon clue?
angel when i moved to Darby Montana I couldn't get to sleep because it was too quiet! It took about a week to adjust!
ah, harp, good icon clue
you don't think it's too obvious?
LOL
we live on small island, on 12 acres so don't see neighbours, when the power fails (due to very high winds or storm), there is the most beautiful eerie silence
flosey, sounds like a good Hitchcock movie...I am so used to city noises but I love the quiet of the countryside
it's really beautiful, especially in a snowstorm
but we do have 2 fireplaces for heat and can cook on the one downstairs
I can imagine it so....I live on the 23rd floor and when the snow covers everything it is beatiful too
*beautiful
plus have a generator if power is off for very long - have 3 freezers full of food
You can roast marshmallows...You are well prepared! Did you ever have to be dug out?
awww Hobbit is fast asleep on my feet, snoring away
we're on a farm and freeze apple juice plus veg and fruit
flosey, sounds idyllic. Opposite effect -- when my mother, a native Manhattanite, came to visit me in Colorado, she never got a good night's sleep ... said it was too quiet.
oh dear...my pc is nearly at a crawl..either something is going or i have a virus
jwr, Yes, that would be me
only once Annie - a neighbour came and plowed our lane after 5 days
Oh noooo, Owl
lol my mother said the same thing about my suburban home. nevermind that their house is on the route of fire engines and police
My daughter lives in Connecticut on an acre of land and that is idyllic so you see I am a city person
well Annie, I still love to visit the city - have 2 sons in Toronto area and 2 daughters in Vancouver
of course, thus place is comfortable and safe but to me it's neither fish nor fowl....
Flosey, I remember your recent trips...How is your brother?
he's doing very well Annie, thanks
Owl, were you brought up in the city?
What is happening? "Word couldn't be added
I talk to him regularly, he's even driving himself out to get groceries, to church, etc. no distances yet
remember waking up knowing it had snowed during the night because the outside sounds were muffled. And it smelled so crisp.
Well that is wonderful news....good luck and continued good health to your brother, flosey
ah, so beautiful jwr
totteries
thanks Annie, really appreciated
not quite jwr
remove the ie, jwr
yes, annie, at the time around 35K pop
and then . . . shovel-time *push slide grunt lift swing dump and again*
we just wait for it to melt jwr, it never lasts very long here - we did have to shovel when we lived in Ontario
ok, which furbrat has stolen my ruler this time?
sorry about the word -- have all the t's and was futzing around. I still have to be Very careful about chatbox.
I am taking a friend food shopping today, have to get ready, bye, dear babblers
bye for now Annie
bye annie...hi ata
having trouble with ar6/30, any clues please?
flosey, the sun sucked up every flake on sidewalk and street -- but not on the shadowed walkway between the houses. sometimes up to 10-foot drifts if it didn't get shoveled away. Gorgeous, tho.
bye annie . thanx for the memories.
ah yes, we use to walk on top of those piles of snow the plow left beside the highway - they got pretty high sometimes
they were well packed of course, no danger of going through
where are you jwr?
flosey, left the Rockies in 79. Body wanted to stay there; head wanted to live in San Francisco.
Good morning/afternoon all.
To be precise, I am sitting in front of the computer being an sy***
hi St Haz of Babblonia!
could someone clue the sy5?
ah, I visited S F many years ago, loved it. Daughter was down there just a couple of weeks ago and had a great time
Hi Haz

Greetings obsessive Creative One. And hello jwr!
SF is not california, that's what I love about it.
Hello Room-What is better? Playing Christmas music and playing Babble-coffee too , of course.
last time I had to move the computer, I left the speakers behind and I'm glad glad glad
St Spangle says hello as well. Actually she has wandered back into the kitchen, utter exhaustion has set in again.
Do you want me to turn up the music jwr?
its such a hard life. Hobbit is fast asleep on my feet, imitating a foghorn
sy5 - s plus a bunch of flowers backwards
nice, Haz
Thanks, jwr.

wow Cherrypop, we haven't had the Christmas music out yet - perhaps another week
can't here the music yet -- you must be on the other coast
I have so many Christmas cds I have to start early lol
haz does it start with the top row s or second row?
over the river and thru the woods . . .
It's the one in the second row, harpjame.

ok, i'll keep looking
I'm trying to gray out the top row... could someone clue the phs pls?

i need ph words
jwr and harp, trying to follow your conversation.....
grace asked forph words
but we're not talking to each other - where are you?
forph?
sorry, I dont have the ph words
ph6/30 - two words are practically the same, greek singular and plural.
ph6/30 ph + sometimes vowel + nickname for female sibling
ty haz and scribe
don't worry about me too much TO!
thanks Haz and scribe
You're welcome.
would never have found them
much obliged
I'm not clueing anymore for awhile -- I make too many mistakes. Some of you are so good at it it's like another puzzle going on simultaneously, each satisfying in its own way.
hi everyone!
Hello Uniquity!

thanks Haz - was going in the wrong direction
You're welcome, flosey.
I understand the two letters as the start of a word but could someone explain the 6/18 in ro6/18
ooo got all the 9s now.
6 letters, 18 points, malt

did someone clue the go6 & 7, if not please do, thanks
nevermind, found it
how do you know the number of letters in the word with the letter that stasrts it
and the 8s!
bonjourinski!
go6/7 animal similar to Bucky Beaver
go - known a ground squirrel
pab they make holes in your yard if you live in the country
Eva!!
where squirrel!!! like a foot soldier?
i think there should be another go7, with Y instead of S at the end, "my yard is all go7"
Good morning Dr Nut.
eva, is that squirrel documenting your anti-squirrel activities?!
g'morning haz
thanks harp
i think it is une...he thinks he's being covert

Add a vowel in the middle of the me 5/6 combination before it
The 5/6 combination that has the alternate Brit. spelling
Happy Friday, fellow Babblers!
hi aloy
Hello Aloy!
Morning, muffin heads!
Mmmmmm, muffins
Judi...just wondering...what is a muffin head?
hi TO and Haz.. lol, muffin heads! blueberry?
Dipped if I know, ddb. Just felt like saying "muffin heads".
sounds good!
You've made me hungry. I'm off to have breakfast. Bye, all *poof*
oh, me too, blueberry muffins for breakfast, sounds good
but first, need a clue for me5/12, the third one please?
I don't know whether you deserve the third one?
oh dear, a simple one, fooey!
hi judi!
Does it me5/12 another clue?
good morning my pretties
No problem, flosey.
ah, now I feel like a pretty muffin head!
hi wyrd
fooey indeed, thanks Haz
Good morning Wyrd. Now we're pretty muffin heads. Things are getting better.
*pops in just long enough to ask for help* RE9 -- i have the clue jacula gave earlier, but i still cant find it... any other hints?
;-))
better than muffin tops
re9 - emphasise a point over and over again.
or re plus a letter lacking to indicate that you can read and write.
i have that one, its the other RE9 i need...
The other one is the one who goes backwards.
ahh, got it -- thanks!
But hopefully in controlled, strategic fashion.
Well done!
had a few spare moments, so i figured id try to knock out all of the toughies. :)
and the other 9?
like a military advance in the opposite direction
Yes, there are a few hardnuts around at the minute. Those babblers.....
course, i still have 16 7-letter words to dig out...heh
The other 9 is to 9 - one who is unsteady on their feet.
evN, they'lll come...mostly plurals and "one who"
Thanks Babble Rabble I got that one.
Sorry, that's the singular, the to9 are those unsteady.
Ah, 9's complete. Ty for the clues.
thanks TO -- im working impaired today anyway...heh
ooh, late for a meeting! BRB!
to 9 -- the ones who use the other side of the teeter
ar7 please?
ty i HAD the singular...but picked it up earlier from a clue. the down side to not figuring it out for one's self
lol, nice clue BR!
sorry, that's at7 please
at + common and boring
nice clue BR
thanks aloy, good clue
yw, flosey.. good thinking!
but now that someone has mentioned blueberry muffins, think I'll take time out to make some
tis the season to be cooking!
im thinking fruit cake drenched in booze
BLAAAAAHG. Fruitcake! Someone call the authorities!
h'mm, love it or hate it.. no in between
not icky fruitcake, stuff with REAL dried fruit, apricots, cherries..tons of nuts
I see you all are talking doorstops today ;)
hi rae!
its a food AND a weapon
Hello raelite!
hello hello
Well, I suppose real fruit is better than that weird green and red stuff that tastes like varnish.
hi raelite!
What sort of fruit cake do you people make over there?
I think all fruitcakes should be shipped to third world countries, so they can use them as bricks to make houses.
i have a fresh fruit cake recipe - have not tried it but sound good
Fireworks!
good going boo!
Congratulations boo.
lol, Judi.... yay boo! congrats!!!
congrats boo
the m words are giving me a hard time - I think I'll throw a fruitcake at them
wtg boo!
ok ok ok, I shall talk about divinity instead you cry babies
of course, divinity would make great spackle for fruitcake houses
people in glass house shouldn't throw fruitcakes?
Anybody need any clues before I shove off?
much sturdier than a gingerbread house...
Divinity would be devine. Mustn't mix it with fruitcake though. That would be a waste of the divinity. Perhaps some of those yummy meringue cookies instead?
Just don't drop them on your foot, you could break a toe or two
but they are so versatile, you have both food and furniture in the same cubicle
meringue cookies????!
Haz, fruitcake over here is the proverbial white elephant gift. They get passed around so much that they are generally rock hard and something that Hagrid would make.
Welcome to FHA ... Fruitcake Haters of America.
you know what's really good: pavlova.
I thought she was a dancer.
no dates to be found on wrappers.. forbidden
Oh, yes, rae! Talk about divine!
yes ata...the best ones are ones you make and leave overnight after turning oven off "forgotten cookies". lovely to go to sleep after a hard night of baking and wake up to finished cooklies
I made one with cocoa once, it was amazing
She was - the dessert was named after her.
Lurrrve pavlova!
raelite - try making one with cinnamon or mixed spice.
i love lindt mozarts....at $19 per pound
**gasps** oh that would be so good
Okay, it sounds as if some food is in order. I am off to nosh on the homemade gingersnap cookies in the kitchen.
It is!
I can just see the speckles of red cinnamon in the pearly white of the pav...oh boy.
can you describe pavlova briefly?
it's a giant merignue, TO
with fruit
Beware, TO. You will want it, once you know what it is. Sort of a spin on baked alaska, without the flames.
Pavlova is basically a meringe mixture with the addition of vinegar and cornflour to make the outside crispy and the inside gooey/marshmallow. Topped with cream and fruit.
or meringue..and you pile it all up and it bakes in the oven, crispy on the outside marshmallow-y on the inside
ah, wonderful! i love the triple choclate meringue cookies...lots of sugar but no fat
Meringue cookies may be used to make a cheap and quick pavlova.
And to think this all started with "muffin heads".
I've uploaded a picture of one.
lol, just mentioned food to Babblers...
Or, at least, a slice of one.
i am tryiing a new cookie this year...an ice box cookie where you mix part of dough with pistachio pudding mix, other with cocoa, roll and slice
wow TO!
Mmmm. That sounds real good, TO. I vowed not to bake this year. Too much temptation.
I made all my stuff with splenda
ata is was developed with premade sugar cookie dough, though i do not like to use that, i want to know what is in my food
How did your stuff turn out, rae? Splenda can sometimes make for weird textures when baking.
it turned out great: I used 3 parts white splenda to 1 part brown sugar to get some carmelization
however i will try it that way first. my workmates are willing guinea pigs
Interesting. No Splenda for you, I imagine, TO.
ok peeps, i am really squandering day off - see you later to finish
Bye TO!
Ta ta, TO!
bye TO
bye TO.. am taking a break too.. bbl
no way. it may be unhealthy but i stay natural. butter, sugar, olive or canola oil in moderation
bye aloy
and SALT in modertaon
*nodding in agreement*
I object. ta4/4ier is most definitely a word. Take it from a ta 4/4 who knows. :)
by-eeee! *poof*
hello temple owl lol xxx
Ooops. Me too. Duty calls.
back for a few while muffins bake
or 8 clue anyone?
or8 - a female version of one who rouses the crowds with a speech
hey, all! I'm having the worst time figuring out the re6 right after the re9. Monkeys are glowering at me and mumbling under their breath . . .
re6 - put the house or building plot in a different position.

that's ok.. needed that one too (-:
last two demons for me --re7/36 and re8/50. Just don't see them.

shred the cheese again, nurse

re+gr5/14

Hi all. Can I get a clue for the ex6?
sy+you *** up your gravy with your bread
Hi back for my last 78 - or at least some of them. Can anyone give me a heads up on the PH words please?
ty aryn
me + Kleenex ****ues + familiar vowel
was looking the wrong direction on that one
me7 - me + gets up in the morning

think older aloy
Can anyone help me with the PH words plz???
ex6 please? A clue, a clue, my kingdom for a clue.
That's the problem with the grid, there are too many directions for the same beginnings.
ex**** opp. of in****
as for a coin for example...
lol, got it,,, and to think i belong to that class! ty ruru and jan
ph6 - ph, the sometimes vowel, shortened female sibling. The other is the greek plural.
ty nurse1000
hello again, haz!
anyone get the sp6/30 yet?
Whew Haz, I was struggling with just the clue. Ph sounds like a science, minus one letter
sp6/30 is descriptive of the globe
Hello Aloy!
sometimes vowell needs to be added
haz, isn't that the sp6/24?
yes, with some help, Aryn... use the same base as the word before it and hook on the "sometimes" vowel
did u get it pigeonman ?
weird word, methinks
sp6/24 is the globe, sp6/30 removes the vowel fromthe end and replaces it with the descriptive sometimes one.
Haz is quite right, it's an adjectival form.
ty aloy and haz!
Thanks for the Ph words Haz.
(-:
You're welcome!
ty hazel for those ph words...
You're welcome montreal.
ta 6/24 I cannot find
Aryn, unusual spelling for your name
ta6/24 is what you're aiming to find - bullseye!
shoot the arrow at it
ta6 -popular store in US
thanks and of course I got the weird word before it.duh
The weird word is used here to describe a cross woman. It's not a compliment!
interesting...
53 left - BBS
have not heard that word in conversation here.. but now I know what it means if someone calls me that!
Fireworks, so off to work.
congrats, jan!!!
Congratulations jan.
Never heard it either.
Yeah, Jan
It's possibly Scots in origin.
Amazing what you learn on this site. Thanks, Haz.
we learn lots of Scots words here
Have a good day, everyone. time to run. TY for all your help.
The original meaning seems to be a Scots shield - we've made her into a battleaxe!
yup, often I think that if i looked up the "weirdo" words, I would probably remember them better...
bye, nurse!
Bye all.
Bye nurse.
What word are you all talking about? First two letters?
ta5
ta5/14 - one letter short of the bullseye word.
Thanks, Aloy
Strange how many more negative terms specifically for women there are, compared to how many negative terms are specifically for men. Or, perhaps less strange than sad. Or infuriating.
i have done a zillion t's and still haven't greyed out a tile
Oh, I can think of plenty of words for men. Gulpin is a great one, or a hallion.
jerk works too haz
bloody f***ing idiot works very well when very annoyed LOL
LOL
Or a ganch is specifically for a man who talks too much.
lol, we will just have to come up with a plethora.. who better to do that than Babblers?
It's true there are some, but the list for females is so much longer.
hey, we could even invent some!
we should!
might be time for me to leave for a bit ...uh oh
Oh, and speaking of "jerk," recently I was chastised by an older colleague for using such a vulgar term. When I looked clueless, he gently pointed out its sexual origin. (Was my face red?? I never realized it.)
all male babblers... excluded.. you are in a different class!
Sit your ground, ruru.
new to me, jan..
as in jerk off or is there something I'm unaware of too?
Atalante, let's do without the vulgar words, please and thanks
Placing hand over screen in case I see something I shouldn't.
yes, indeedy... what one can learn on this site..
Yes, or so he claimed. (Seems quite plausible to me.) It is funny how quickly a work can be detached from its original sense. I have a lot of students who insist that "sucks" as a pejorative term isn't vulgar at all, and has nothing to do with sexuality.
oh pfff it was an inquiry
and lol jan I would have never thought of sucks as coming from something vulgar. BUt most swear words are really
my students used "suck" to mean "stink".. as in, it stinks..
If you consider it though, nearly all of our "classic insults" have sexual beginnings and references...
Hello everyone
hi Preethi!
oh yes uni
HI Aloy, Uni, Ata
Yes, nowadays they tend to be about excrement or sexuality--though in earlier times they were more often religious in origin. (And in many parts of the world, still are...)
Hows everyone doing today?
Hello Preethi.
Hi Pree :)
Hello Haz
Morning all - has anyone finished all the TO's? I just did, and was surprised that the last five were all from the same word!
Were you unsteady on your feet once you realised?
Jan - good point. I love reading old poetry and discovering that things I consider non-offensive are the height of vulgarity in the time they were made
Howdy folks!
does anyone have the first re 7/36, re 8/50 and the 2nd re 6/18?
It was the to8 and to9 that surprised me.
hi mom.. yes, i finished those and am now hunting my last 5 missing tr's... hi there, Takuma.. haven't seen you in a while
hi all - back with 49 to go
I have all the T words except for TE's
hello montreal.. long time
wb montreal!
re7/36 - put the cheese through again etc.
namaste preethi !

where did everyone go?
no chat for 8 minutes...is that a record?
nearly
new here, and I dont understand the way you guys use clues...ie te7/28 for example...what do the numbers mean?
19 to go ...
te7 = a 7 letter word starting with TE and worth 28 points
oh, ok, thank you mon
Hi Jakki, welcome to babbleland! As montreal just explained the numbers, I'll jsut give you the lsit of helpful things - the help icon just above chat ois fantastic, as well as angelsongs babble page in the "friends of babble" box below the grid. Third, is Lickety's List..fantastically helpful!
simplest is a 4-letter word where each tile is worth 1 point = a ..4/4 word ------- 5-letter words you double the tile count, 6-letter words, you triple the count etc...
Hi Jakki - under the puzzle you'll see a section called "Friends of Babble". Look for "Lickety's Babble Clues. There you'll find today's puzzle with clues to all the words.
thank you!
you ARE welcome Jakki !
Fireworks here - tx for great clues along the way
Jakki, I don't chat much, but I have to say that this is the nicest group of "friends" you'll find anywhere on the internet. Everyone is so helpful and patient. Just ask questions and sure as shootin' you'll get a good clue.
way to go ursh !!
wtg ursh
I'll second that sharidan !!
I'm another refugee from Tangleword shutting down :) Imust admit everybody seems as friendly as there for sure...
wtg Hursh
oh friendlier by far LOL
lol, i'm sure that's a totally unbiased opinion of course :)
utterly :)
Hey there babblers. Hello from Kentucky
hi there weegee from KY !!
When I first got internet I was fascinated by being able to chat to people around the world so tried a couple of chatrooms - holy smoke it was like a foreign and foul language - I love that babble speaks good english and does not encourage swearing
hi weeg :)
bonjour, montreal
bonjour weegee - tu parles français ?
un peau, Mon
good weegee - we have a resident babbler who is a french teacher in the USA somewhere - : Uneaxoise or something approaching...
ursh, you're so right about other chats! Here, too, sometimes though... adults pretending to be kids, some soap opera confessions, etc., but not so much during the day U.S. time. Still, I usually keep chat closed. This seemed like a good group to say hi to.
Ursh, I second that sentiment.....Good people here!

HI Haz
goodmorning GB contingent and everyone else

Hello weegee - we've been here. Do we count as fixtures and fittings?
Hi weegee Winter is bringing a lot of babblers back to the fold.
ar6/18 - being more craft/creatively orientated than another.
Hello lynxx my favourite Antipodean
Hello lynxxx! I'm tending to chat more in our evenings/your morning.
hi lynxxx! hows the new addition?
ex6
what about it, LuvB?
ex6 - the opposite of in6 (not in the grid) - to put something in, like a coin to a toll
Yes, haz, I suspect so, at least for the U.S. afternoon time frame. Evenings U.S. time have become too, too...something. I've been back for a week and this is the first I've chatted
help, pls
Not yet Ata - just made the decision of the breed, still trying to make contact with the organisation, within a week I hope
oh. its nice to say please ;)
Yes, weegee, British mornings have become too... as well.
Hi Haz and good evening. Luv, far from me to suggest but perhaps the odd please might facilitate hlep?
Thanks Haz. Finished with the AR's! Yeah!

You're welcome, mom.
te7/28 - being more inclined to eye moisture than another
the comparative to the same word
lynxxx - what are you getting and are you prepared for the dog breed vs rescue lecture from herinfernal?
hobbit's had to have the lampshade back on, she won't stop scratching long enough for proper scabs to form let alone hea;
*heal
Poor Hobbit!
Oh lynxx getting a dog?
It's something - I'm assuming it's a dog.
I know! poor babe! its just preventive now though. she can have it on when I can't see her, and go lampshade free when we're out walking
Gasp, maybe its another CoG
Perish the thought, FMitch!
Haz - greyhound - retired - although some actually don't even race...boy & about 2/3yo...so yes Infernal will approve
it can't be. there's only one CoG
hi all. This morning my oldest was on here at 5:20 AM! If it weren't for the strong resemblance, I'd swear she couldn't be mine. I only get up that early under duress! ;-)
I've got an re9 and te9, what's the other 9 please? I'm resisting going to the list
Oh well, that's something. You've got the best of both worlds.
re9, and i presume you mean to!
to9 - those who aren't so steady on their pins
he 6/27?

he 6/27-go against church doctrine
ditto ditto!
excuse my manners, please is always a nice word. i do apologize
Haz, have you had stormy weather, it's looked a bit bleak on the forecast this morning?
Hi all - back for my last 32 - I've just noticed that I seem to have all the R words that are listed on licketty but I still seem to be one R missing on the grid. Has anyone any idea what this might be?
It was a pretty dreich day this morning but improved a bit in the afternoon. No storms yet. The forecast looked grim, didn't it?
Yup, its persistently pouring at the mo with gale warnings for the w/e.
Sandie - if you are using babbleExpert just send all the words to the grid again
Sandie - have you gone through your word list and compared them?
hi all!
I like cold, dry weather - damp, gloomy weather isn't so good. And walking beside Spangle is like walking beside a miniature car wash with the revolving things.
Yes - I can't find one that I've missed. Will go through them again later. I don't know how to use Babble expert.
LOL what a great picture!
Hello beth.
the car wash thing sounds very familiar
sandie - do you have rh4.5. To get BabbleExpert you need to email Lickety (address on his List) and he will send you a copy...v. good!
sandie, that happened to me last week, i had all the words entered them multiple times refreshed like crazy,no joy. hope you have better luck.
Yes, I seem to have them all. Hmmm very frustrating!
help with AT7, please
at7 - at plus a word in the grid that means common, boring, of not much worth.
hi haz, saw you in the grid yesterday:)
I know - I was so pleased to be there. Fame at last!
22 points - not bad going.
we should all send a small gratuity to you for overuse of your name, its only fair
Yes, I've arranged that with Dr-God. No rubber checks please.
sorry haz, too broke
i have chucky cheese dollars, will that do?
clue for the second re 6/18 please
Ah - now the pleadings of poverty. If you'd all spend less on food, you could afford to pay me.
I have a rubber chicken (borrowed off Ang)
Priorities, people, priorities.

Everybody benefits, beth, you're onto a winner.
re6/18 - to put the building lot in another position

i have already submitted my copyright & patent applications on the idea
tier
oops
sy5 clue, anyone?
sy5 clue, anyone?
Must be en echo in here
sy5 - s plus a backward little bunch of flowers.
Is it any coincidence that po4/6 (our dear Spice girl) and po4/7 are so close together in the grid?
the sy5 doesnt even make sense at least not to me lol
Have you got the word?
Think about the clue. The bunch of flowers is mentioned in the bit about po4/6 spice below.
firewords
mlf.. sy5 is IT techie slang for "system operator"
ty for the clues
Wow. Great clue, Haz
Well done, bookwomen.
Thanks grant, glad it worked for you.
congrats Book!
confetti for bookwomen! My monkeys demand I go to list with 43 to go.

clue for re9/54, please
Of course peri, it's my job! but it has been quite quiet today (famous last words).
poor FM, how did this blaming business all begin?
re9/54 - one who takes part in the strategic withdrawal.
it didn't begin. it always has been
I Lost in the mist of time ... ... but I blame Haz :)
oh, I see
Or re9/54 - I will emphasise again that re9/54 is a word to do with making a point.
It's the law of England, peri, mentioned in Magna Carta and all sorts. Blame ye olde FM.
i got that one ty haz
sorry, I meant the first re9/54
really, Haz, didn't know that, of course have not read the Magna Carta in a very long time :-)
That's the second one I clued, mom.
Greek God of War
It's mostly dry as dust, peri, but that nugget of wisdom shines forth always. Every day, in every way, blame FM.
Can anyone clue me the te5/10 after the period of time at a school plz?
Anyone know where Haz's Off switch is?
te5/10 - short, cutting, not given to much talking.
she doesn't have one
making a point? hmm
I have a spaniel, and I'm not afraid to use her.
Thanks a lot for that HAz.
You're welcome, Sandie.
Licked and wagged to death by a wonderful woofer like the glittery one - what a way to go :)
whaat kind is she haz? my family has always had english springer spaniels
She's a Welsh springer - red and white rather than black or liver.
S-L-O-W, but I finally got it! Thanks Haz.
Slow but steady wins the race.
But not at my school sports days....
shes a real beauty
I have 15 tg. At least I have 9+ hours left!!
dr 6/27?
14 here mom!
Make that 14. yeah
I know, she's very appealing. When I chose her as a puppy the breeder said 'She has a 'Love me' face'
add sometimes vowel to dr5/12
dr6/27 - descriptive of the frock, or the type of occasion where the frock might be worn.
You're older than 14 Ata!
she make you smile to look at her. is she a clown or more dignified
only just!
Hi kids. Clue for the dr6/27, please?
She can be both, beth.
dr6/27 - describes FMitch's new frock.

good afternoon, fair babblers
judi me either
can anyone clue the sp6/30 please?
judi -- like 'make an effort' with a snake in the middle
Hello people. Down to 7 left...but really stuck with the SY5, any clues please?
in6 (not in grid), put inside, slot into a machine, use the last four letters but put ex in front.
i love it when they look ladylike
sp6/30 is descriptive of the global sp6/24.
dont think hobbit ever looks ladylike
ohh ty haz
liz - s plus a backwards bunch of flowers (in the grid)
Ah. Ty, fruitart.
oops i have tht already
yw
Hobbit is looking very ladylike in the icon actually.
moooo
any clues for the er5's?
probably as ladylike as she gets!
Haz you realise you only get paid for one clue to a word, repeats unfortunately don't pay as there are so many repeat requests
er5/10 - takes the v from what the po4/5 might write.
extra
Fireworks!!!!!!! I found the re word I'd entered into Licketty but not the grid!!!!
just monkeyed the er5/14
My goodness, thank you, Haz. I've definitely never heard that one before!
er5/14 adds a consonant to the therefore word (er4/6)
A new one for me as well, liz.
Congrats Sandie Hi liz
yay sandie!
That's a relief, sandie!
can anyone help with at7/28 or dr6/27?
dr6/27 - adjectival form to do with dr5/12
sp 6/30?
at7 - a+ double cons + ri4/4
at7/28 - at plus a word meaning common, boring, lacking in worth.
thank you haz
sp6/30 describes the global sp6/24. Replace the last vowel with a sometimes descriptive one.
tr5/10 after attempts please
which one periwinkle?
tr5/10 - it's the common, boring, of little intellectual value one, peri (attaches to the at7)
thanks Haz, was going in circles looking for that one
You're welcome.
afternoon babblers
marshmellows
Hi Eva
Hello there Eva.
chocolate cake
baaaaa
can someone please tell me which E the er5/10 begins from?

d
Aw thats not fair EvaN!!
oh dear
It's from the fourth column and goes backwards, so to speak (er5/10)
You singing Prom ?
yeah, and its kinda annoying cause the thing i have to stay to do is something anyone (including the people who actually stay later than me) could do
ok, thanks haz
You're welcome.
rabbits
is it time for "under the bridge"?
Sorry, folks, did I miss a red alert for TR5 activity?
None had been given, liz.
no liz, but may be coming soon
oh dear, still have 75 to go, need a break, bbl
See you later, peri.
im so exhausted, i could probably sleep right through TR5 activity right now...
bye peri
When's your boyfriend's second interview?
it was on wednesday -- he thinks it went well, and they said they would call him within a week either way
so we have all of our fingers + toes crossed right now!
That's good - hopefully it will be in his favour.
i hope so!
Do we need to nobble other candidates?
Ok gonna watch some tv. Happy babbling all.
Crosses arms, finger and legs ... falls off chair.
AR6/30..any clues please?
Bye Sandie, enjoy.
ar6/30 is a ship
ar6/30 - descriptive of our catalogue store - the one that sounds as though it has something to do with Jason.
i saw the clue from earlier for ex6/33, but i'm still not seeing it in the grid
ar + opp of stop + Harriet the *p* (sleuth)
Put a plural letter in third place within ex5 - to do something forcefully.
ex6/33 = ex5/20 with a snake in the middle
It begins with the e in the fourth column and again, goes 'the wrong way'
Occcchhhh! Thank you.
got it, thanks :)
A good guttural och, there, liz!
Haz did you get last Saturdays Mail?
as in newspaper not e or postal
I did - was that the one with the wildebeest photos?
did it have a free spaniel?
LOL I ws thinking more along the lines of the behind the scenes article on Cranford
i cant ge tthat snake one to work
ex + plural letter + ending of ex5/20
on CD Ata but it got lost. boom boom.
Yes, I read it - very interesting that they worked for so long, and at reduced rates. It's been worth it!
looool
ex6/33 lol please?
Example: he read an ex**** from his book. It was just a paragraph.
hello! Newbie here. Sorry to ask the dumb question, but what do things like "ex5/20" mean?
MLFAN17: That's the clue we're doing right now.
That's not the same word, though. That's excerpt.
Time to put the kettle on BRB
my bad!
well the word i am thinking on uit doesnt work
6-4-9-5-3-0 i'm doing well!
ex5/20 means a word that begins ex, has five letters and which yields 20 points (because five letters are double points value, six, triple etc)
I guess I 'used all my energy' on this grid!
aha! thank you, momof5! :)
2 left. 2nd. TE6/18 and AR5/12, clues gratefully received!
Then look it up in www.morewords.com or www.a2zwordfinder.com, MLFAN. Or else leave it and come back to it.
ar + it's nice to **e* you. Glad to know you
ar = limb + french "and"
hurshy! I mean, marty!
te6/18 = te4/4 + 'more' ending
TY, just one to go..the TE aforementioned.
does anyone have a good clue for po7/32?
i have the po8, but can't find the po7
lizmac: which te6/18 did you need?
po7/32 - look at my icon.
po7 - female version
The female of the species (po4/5)
aha
thank you
For heaven's sake...fish please.
haz your icon?
yes. the littel picture by her name
Yes, if you click on my icon, it gives a clue. It's Elizabeth Barret Browning, the po7/32.
po7 = po4/5 with female ending
i dont know what the icon is of
By the way, for those that witnessed my Christmas moan and sympathised, I've negotiated Christmas Day off..WHOOPEE. Oh yes, and fireworks for me!
that's not marty, that's wesley!
congrats lizmac
well, read the description, mlf
they do have a lot in common though.
I've told you. Google the name. Elizabeth Barret Browning.
Back with 21 to go.
double congrats Liz !!!
Hi hurshy! It's been months!
wesley! such a good star trek name, even if she didn't mean it that way
maybe her hubby meant it that way, a little.
haz, on my screen your dog is still your icon, poochy is not on grid, took me a minute to look elsewhere
i am out bye
mlfan17: someone who writes rhyming lyrics is a PO4/5; she is a po4/5***
the g's are killin me here (hi weegee, has it?)
clues for re7/36 and re8/50, please?
Judi, to cut the cheese again...
sorry, couldn't resist
judi: re + what you do to cheese for a topping, plus plural
re fart?
I was thinking the same thing espritdjean! LOL!!
espritdjean - teehee
oh we of simple minds :-)
yes, hurshy, I've been gone... laid off in June, not reemployed until October with lots of turmoil in between. Happily reemployed again. You?
So we have some people seeing Spangle and some the po7? Oh well, confusion reigns then.
does spangle write verse?
clue for OR8, please
what DO you do to cheese for a topping?
I don't get the re7 & 8 clue. All I can think of is slice or melt.
or8 - a female who stirs the crowd with her speechmaking.
thats how i knew she was a beauty haz but not a po/7/32
Well Spangle IS a very talkented dog :)
you ***** mozzarella / cheddar to sprinkle on pizza
oh you know, bored with life generally, as always.
She would probably write wonderful verse but it would be in Welsh. cwms and crwths and all sorts of things.
*talented
judi, parmesan cheese comes already in tiny pieces but some cheese you have to gr5/14 all over again
Bye for today, off to Status Quo concert in Edinburgh tomorrow, providing the forecast gales don't happen (caravan doesn't like the wind)
Say hello to Edinburgh for me!
*Light Dawns*!
Greetings from a winter wonderland.
ooooh my mum would be jealous!
hurshy, bored? I can't imagine!
Sy5/16??
does anyone have the OR8?
If they do then we'll go on Sunday.
haz just clued it
Byeee.
Judi, slang for "system operator"
Hello Scrabbler
sy5 - s plus a backward looking bunch of flowers.
Hello Scrabbler.
lol how many times have you typed that today?
Ty, weegee and Haz. Last two: need last Tr5/10 and Tr6/18.
I am now under 100 to go--lots of long words today
Judie, one/those who attempt again
I don't know, I'm trying to get something of the backward nature and also the photographic model element. Would that make it too fussy!?!
t + ri4/4
That's what I am looking for too, Judi.
How much snow then Scrabbler?
Ty, momof5
then add the 'more' ending letter
or boring and usual then even more so?
tr5/10 - common or boring, but incorporating a ceremony.
yw.
I'd keep working on it. You'll get it perfect soon I'm sure
Scrabbler, how much snow up there? My mom said flurries last I spoke to her
Yes, but would the clue work at the end of it all?
I guess everyone is looking for the OR8 since I haven't received a clue ??
*******FIREWORKS!!!!*********
dunno. it would be impressize though!
It is very windy and huge flakes are slowly falling. It is quite beautiful.
how many gh, if any?
Congrats Judi
or87 - female speaker
Might I be following Frasier's adage 'If less is more, think how much more more would be.'
Yahooo Judi!
Where is your Mom, weegee?
you did so get a clue mom, haz gave one, i saw it and got the word meself
or8 (again, for it WAS clued before) - the female who rouses the crowds with her speechmaking.
Off to do more office decorating. Talk about boring.
East Irondequoit, scrab
Bye Judi
Tree is crooked, ornaments are uneven. Do I look like I give a sh*t?
Next summer we want to kayak in Irondequoit Bay.
Hursh - just gh6
gh6/27 - think of Elvis and Warsaw.
Thank you!
Now there's a strange combination!
My mom is a stone's throw from the bay
Would anyone like peppermint tea? I made a potful.
what is the name of the elvis song involving that word?
Ata, "In the Gh****"
In The ______
In the gh****
All I'm hearing is the King warbling 'In the gh6'.
a poor boy 'in the gh****
oh ty! I love that song and never knew what to put in to try and download it
Sorry, Haz, me, too! His daughter covered it in the last couple of years, spooky how much she sounds like him
The te6 after nipple, please?
And no, he's not hiding out under my stairs.
and looks like him
twit
te + re 4/4
take it you don't like Lisa marie fmitch?
I haven't heard that version, weegee.
haz , am i mistaken, i thought you had clooney under your stairs?
TY, Weegee, I do recall that word being here before
esprit, different vowel for lisa marie!!
LOL knew my post would pop in at the wrong time, it was a comment aimed at Ata :)
ooooooooooooooh

at7/28 - help!

No, beth, George escaped and is back, on the rebound I might add, with some woman in LA.
mom, at + tr word for boring
I was feeling invisible
a girl who was on fear factor and ate maggots
guys like a girl who will put ANYTHING in her mouth
George and I made up that story to keep the paparazzi away from us.
ty,ty,
some people have no taste whatsoever. but for next time stronger manacles
at7 - a plus a double helping of the consonant, a ceremony that sounds to be correct.
This is true, beth. I've learned my lesson.
maggots? I can think of worse
all right, i am down to my last 4 words
there is a golden lining to everything
ty
Go Robo go!
Leeches, Atalante, what do you reckon?
T's are done!
are there any ge?
yes, leeches definitely. they would be chewy
ge4 only Hursh
oddly enough they are all 6-letter words
Yes, hurshy - one that appears often.
and baloutes or howeveer you spell them
balut- the feathers and beak would be super difficult for me to choke down
OK, 2 left: te5/10 (last one) and er5/10. Help, please.
ty
te5/10 = a quad
4 go or more?
ty. I think baluts would be the only thing I would simply refuse to eat
6 go's
er5/10 - if it began with v it would be the plural of the form in which poems and hymns are often written. Remove the v.
FISH1
Is the last sp word related to the first 2?

Let me guess the cat is loveing you right now DC
my cat was on antibiotics a couple of months ago because he got hit by a car and we were given a syringe to give him his antibiotics and it was alot easier...he didn't like it, but i squirted it that quick into his mouth he would swallow it before realising what i had done
so not. There's a baby gate that keeps the dog from the cat/rabbit stuff. I set boxes so he could go over the gate, but he keeps trying to go through the railing. When i'm not home, i leave him up there, so he has food/water/litter. So not happy. he likes to roam.
ex 6?
yes i have syringe. he seems to be closing his throat at the epiglotis
Poor kity
funny spulling of to put out effort, nan
hello all, is this worth starting, so late in the day?

jade has been starting a job, which i think has kept her busy. She got the weekend anchor position, and has done some other human interest stories.

Hi Lynxx enjoying the first day of Summer
ddb4nana - As lil's not around to answer your question... Originally British slang "doolally tap", loosely meaning "camp fever", referring to the apparent madness of men waiting for ships back to Britain after finishing their tour of duty in India at the British Army transit camp, Deolali. Men were said to have "doolally tap". By the 1940s this had been widely shortened to just "gone dolally" or just "dolally", an adjective meaning "mad" or "eccentric".
HI JAC

hi dr
at + tr5/10, pam
hello, dr
Hi DC- How are you
Shakespeare is fun :)
ta 6.24
i'm alright, dr, and you?
I must not have that tr5/10
Would not surprise me these days with school and litrature. I was doing my friends English stuff when he was in year 9 and i did the same stuff in grade 5/6
I am good. Ready for the weekend
ta6/24 - store known for it's big boxes and red circle logo
tr5/10 - smaill, unimportant, insignificant, petty
duh thanks :)
Carra you really should check out some of the Greek literature classics
thanks, dc!
thanks Dcseain
ooh i found a game on yahoo games.. yahoo graffiti.. was pretty fun
Herin, I think we got into it a bit in school but I never cared for it
yall are most welcome :)
Heck, you can read Edith Hamilton's classic on greek mythology then move on to Joseph Campnbell... I was a myth freak. And, a Beowulf, Sir Gawain nut....
Its not that horrid
in nova scotia, canada at least, classics don't exist in high school.
Pam have you seen the new Beowulf movie?
when i was in highschool i constantly had my nose in a book i think i read great expectations 3 or 4 times
snagglepuss was my inspiration
I adore mythology and the classics, but had to seek them out on my own and take a lot in university. HATE Shakespeare though. In my school, I am the mutant freak
I was always reading, too, tim. Still am....
Never got into Dickens.
that is halfway for me, good night. Hugs to all.
g'night, mom
and tolkien was my god
Night Mom
pleasant dreams Dcseain and DR :)
i've never read any tolkein.
Night mom
Ahhs, there then is the rub, uniquity. I read Shakespeare for pleasure before it was assigned in school, and I have read many of his plays more than a few times...
i wish i had the time to read now
2nd te 6?
good night Herin
I still need the second te6/18 please someone
JD Salinger was my god--Franny and Zooey and The Laughing Man...
te6/18, one who rips or of fewer words
te + re4/4
and hi all
i read lots of Salinger back in the day.
I'm sure there is Shakespeare I wold enjoy, but my teachers and profs always make us do the same ones over and over - Hamlet, Caesar, merchant of venice
2nd te6/18 = slender of cylindrical. Like dcs just clued.
got a teacher repminanded for teaching salinger in grad 12, too. :)
I adore Chaucer, Dante, Homer, Virgil
OH merchant was my fav
I found him on my own--then had to read Catcher for school. BUT it was Franny and ZOoey that I read twice a year in JR High and Hig School... and the stories, ahhh, the stories...
Are you serious, dc? that is just ridiculous...
ty seain
sounds funny saying that bcause babbling actually takes time but reading requires your full attention between dog and kids and work and who knows what I have the attention span to a pea now
Oh i have a 1900's copy of Paradise Lost
i don't have that re 4/4... i only have behindf
I loved John Donne's poetry.
Whan that Aprille with her shoures sote, the droghte of Marche hath perced to the rote, and bathed everye veyne is swich licour, of which vertue engnendered is the fleur. Caucer was fun.
Chaucer
LOL, tim! I read a lot, and commute by public transport, so that helps...
Thanks dcseain & Jacula.
I still like Donne. And Milton.
I don't read nearly as much now as I have the rest of my life (used to average a book a day) but I still try to do things outside of school (Duval, just finished a paper on Donne, I think he is so great)
*!* ta da *!* -- thanks for the help all. I found this one really tough!
dang, this is a pretty cerebral group
I enjoyed Paradise Lost but far prefer Dante to Milton
yes that what was great about taking the bus....time to read
yes, pam we read Salinger's Nine Short Stories, specifically Seymore Glass. He failed me on teh paper for not reguritating his Christian intepretation of the story. Took it to the dept head and school board. He got in big trouble for failing to honour separation of church and state.
hi again, got distracted doing jigsaw puzzles.
wb, dawg
woo hoo cybernan!
when i used to bus it to work i would go past my stop so many times
Wow, dc. Good on ya'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But, I don't mind, LOL
congrats, nan! :D
see you at the flip, everyone :)
I told my year 12 Litrature teacher to shove it sideways and never went back as she was a homophobic cow and would not and refused to teach me to structure the essay for Adrienne Rich (as she is a lesbian) instead of choosing Robert Lowell (her preferred author)
YAY, nan

There is too mnay r and t words

pffffffft - you just don't know it tyger
1st ph is the plural of the second, which has to do with growth.
I'm an extremely femme tyger
hm. thanks Jac *thinking*
ph + affirmative anagram + plural end. 2nd ph uses another vowel (a definite article).
like hobbes?
the silk & lace kind, even at my age
thanks Jac, got them. not easy....
I must follow my beloved up the wooden hill now. We're sleepy. See you all next grid. Happy Babbling.

the ph, tyger
I don't recall any fish inthe grid. OTOH, it's a big grid

tyger -- you know "fish" refers to something that is relatively simple? not necessarily the name of a fish...

it'll get colder than this before the end of the year
how far are you from the coast?
Yuck nope don't like it
i need clues, tyger! i've got 98 words left ;)
oh. just registered. You're on the other side of the mountains

I hope not georgia, no power, no grid!
heh. no, i'm just back of beyond...but not quite to idaho.
Close though right ?:P)
re 6 after the 9?
yeah, i usually narrow it down to about a dozen before i start asking for clues, tyger :)
um... i think it's a 2 hour drive to idaho?
but closer than you are, for sure ;)
I am a bad pirate i didn't see the good old jolly in the grid. Think i may walk the plank
re6/18: re + a nice spot for a house is called a good building ****
thanks tyger
ro8 ?
re6/18: re + (rhymes with wright)
yw, stid
and the RE 6/18 after the 4/4?
ro8/40 builds off the preceding ro4/4.
it is a plural of a 6 letter word that is part of the name of a famous civic organization Ro**** International
ro 8 === add to take your time: ***r***

I just can't believe it is a grid-allowed word!
duh! thanks!!!!
LOL - with those 3, it should be obvious
Pam, It's Enable. Deep breath....
yw, stid
Hello, how do I play this game. I have been a Tangleword Fan for years and they shut us down. No warning or anything. I love word games.
pam, some of the "words" that are allowed in Scrabble should be thrown out (just IMO)
welcome, Althea
hi, althea. first read the help page. it has a lot of vital information in it.
althea, welcome. there is a small help link on this page, or try angelsong's page -- link near the bottom in the "friends of babble" section
ehy althea. it's pretty simple--you find all the words in the jumble :)
hi babblers
we will gladly help you, but you will have to do some work, too :)
mostly, you do like in Boggle -- find words and enter them in the box below the grid
hey shady!
hey, shady
Okay do they have connect like tangle word and boggle.
yes, they do have to tough
hi shady!
Hi Shady
and Althea
*touch -- the smallest word allowed is four letters long
stid!!! long time! hi tyger, lbd
What Significance do the numbers have.
not sure how tangle word works. basically, the letters have to touch, and no using the same letter twice in the same word. but they don't have to go in a straight line
lbd,!!
below the grid is a panel of letter boxes with numbers next to them--that's how many words start with that letter, and how many of them you've found.
anyone help with the tr 6/24
the numbers are used to increase the point total. four letters are the straight count, five letters double the value, six triple, etx
the crazy abbreviations people use here to ask for clues are the first letter or two of the word, then the number of letters in the word, then the point value for the word.
you get the word stats free for 2 weeks. then they go away, unless you go Pro (just warning you) :)
jes, and ruru, wow, the gang's all here!
hi all!
so what ruru just asked for is a 6 letter tr word worth 24 points :)
hi shdy :)

How do you know if you are doing good.
I have 216 points, is that good or bad I dont' know
if you're having fun, of course!
you're doing well, when you get as many words as you can with or without help, althea
althea, we all have our own idea of what is enough. Some of us have the time to get all the words. Some of us set a limit like 50 or 100 to get to.
thank you
216 points isn't bad for a first time, there are over 3500 points possible today
Althea, that is very good!
last one he 6/27
there are 3546 points in this grid
blasphemy, ruru
Well I guess I have to find alot more then
How do your know how many points
actually, you only need 7 more words to have finished the grid, althea
216 points; not words
there are 223 words in the grid today, Althea

Hi Min!

hi min
or5 is to give a speech
Althea, in the middle of the screen is the list for the words you find. At the bottom of the list is total words you have found. Below that and to the right of word stats is the number of words yet to be found
