How`s the new box
the Xs were fun, and they all share 5 letters in common
this grid is nice, balboe, good morning
i've got 58 left at this point, though i think i'll work for'em

add a vowel, saddy; that vowel is a typical Latin plural.
saddy, add a vowel to the one before it, latin plural, not an S
usually an e Saddy
sorry
are you being sensitive again Ruru?
i have the 2nd an5,10.... its the first i want
brb

oh, sorry, saddy. i don't have that one yet.

morning, sprite! D:
Hello Spritely!
they signed contract today, and asked for 21 Jan closing.
lol, did I scare you, dc?
hey lynxxx *hug*
good news, dc!
my fingers got the :D backward, i noticed on send. but i startle easily in general
so do I :) *hug*
hello everyone :)
evening, mrp!
congrats on the contract again.
Hi MRP !
hey mrP! *hug* How is the home situation, now that the end of the selling stress is near?
oh yes, and congrats on the contract!
thank you!! we signed today... very exciting stuff :D
OJ from concentrate is so much less nice than fresh.
it is almost over sprite. I am sad that we will be sending our last xmas here. Still going through 1 more open house this saturday
spending *
why is that? Seeing you already sold?
why MRP? just as a backup?
the contract stipulates they have to come up with $57,000 by thursday next week... when we see that money, then we stop advertising
that's reasonable, mrp.
ah, I see. Must be irritating, having to have an open house while you should not need it. But you will survive ;)
people can 'say' they will buy and sign anything, but unless the money is in our bank, we don't believe it
well, you are right about that, though once they sign, they are bound to deliver.
unless they have a financing contigency, sprite
and we settle on the 21st January, one week before school goes back. So, in a month, we will be moving out
Morning all - early start for a change
morning, spellit!
yup, if it is in the contract.
hi spellit
hello Spellit!
hi spelit :)
will you be in the same school district, mrp? else, moving and reregistering, oy!
oh sprite, we found some good yugioh cards for Tim. Luke is sending them this weekend
we are staying in the area for sure... move closer to the school
Tim is SOOO looking forward to it! And Caya too. Will they really send this weekend? If you know for sure, I will tell them.
are you on skype yet, mrP?
they really will, letters are written and ready to go. I just have to get to the post office tomorrow
So Sprite - are the comics & the letters making the English learning more attractive for Tim?
oh wonderful! They are having so much fun in advance already. It is really cool, pen pals from the other side of the world, isn't it.
they certainly do, lynxxx! And Caya reads them as well! It is really easy with the pics along with the words and they love it.
must go eat dinner, brb
njoy, mrp
That's great, glad it has all worked out so well - AND they have made new friends to boot!
enjoy
will try and get skype up and working sprite, when I get back from dinner
yay, the laughing fence is back
fran, that sh yiddish word is ther, but different spelling
last sh7/32
just typing will do as well, mrP! Just want to ask you a few things that I don't want to put in general chat ;)
back just in time for that sh7, thanks dc!
who shot the shirf?
now that spelling makes more sense!
hi sprite!
hi mrp!
hi Fran *hug*
rehi dc!
SHAIRiff is the pronunciation here
wb, fran, missed ur slipping away
you two are really close to the sh6/30. might have to send you to the penalty box. :-)
ty, fran, i'd not noticed that :)
ooooow thanks Fran!
i wouldn't have either until sprite said her thing. :-)
sprite, H, not We for surprise. W for pain/chagrin.
grin, I needed you to point out my almost-find ;)
i'm at a total loss for sh7/32, after the bed dressing.
*tries to look smart while searching for the meaning of that clue*
does anyone have the ar8,40?
i don't saddy
sprite, not a clue, request for help from me
nope, but it is good to know it is there, Saddy
not yet, but i'll look
:)
saddy, do you have the ar6/18 that sounds like a record company?
ar8/40, Jackie O's hubby and the United *****s of America, hi everyone :)
Back from washing the kitty
it starts with that, last part is like one of the 50 united *****
just found it before you clued it, Cat, and hi :) Thanks for saving me the cluing!
ooh, cat beat me to it... hi cat!!
TY Fran & Cat
LOL, tis ok Fran, hello!

hi flask!
morning, flask
thanks for the 4 X biggies
morning, Flask :)
woo hoo sprite!
any clues for sh5/14 and sh7/32 please?
sprite: xa 7,8,9,8,9
which sh5/14?
lol dc, sw5 of you :)
last one is to carry
sorry its the final 2 x 7's
Well she may be clean but i am now damp and covered in wet cat hair
works miracles for my points total, this one letter greyed out!
the final 2 x sh's....sorry!
last sh7 is yiddish for an encampment, with an extra vowel in it.
last SHs are both yiddish , carry, and an an encampment - with an extra vowel
the joys of cat bathery, lady :)
sh5/14 means to carry in yiddish, s + anagram of "assist"
great clue, Fran
thanks sprite. :-)
Clue for the Fi 9 pleaese
wish i knew yiddish
does anyone have the at7,32 yet?
Sorry Fran....not getting it!
searching, saddy...
flask, s + h*** (last 4 letters are "assist" mixed up)
F9 is marine life + dish!
saddy, a sportsman
That is not a word
a sportsman is at7
thanks flask! i knew it had to start that way, didn't get the ending yet.
thanks dc! that word is so hard to me to see
ty flash, i knew the start, had no clue on end :)
it's spiral, fran, no wonder it's hard to see :)
tytytytyt
lol dc, that's essentially what i said about the word. :-)
lol Fran and dc
dc, that and i never played sports. :-)
my sister did, only reason it's on my radar
anytime dc...:-)
she did softball, volleyball, and basketball
Fran is the 7 related?
no flask, but it's also yiddish
sh + coffee or **a + ***ephone
last sh7 - yiddish for a village or town - with an extra vowel toward the end.
thnx Fran, again :)
we see it in the grid more without the last e
yw sprite
I even tried it without the extra e. But did not realise there was a longer version.
DC the cat also left a hair or two in my eyes
how cat-like
yes
sprite, the version today is unusual and rare.
ok Fran...thanks for that and your patience!
i announced it as a phantom a couple hours ago and then a little while ago dc found that one!
finally found the Indian bread
yw flask, anytime. :-)
that is good to know, dc. Will try and remember this version as well, though :)
How are you SPrite
I sooo love the indian bread. With garlic, if possible.
dc, thanks, i hadn't seen it yet!! (as usual, it was much too obvious)
garlic kulcha is lovely
na6, anyone?
dead tired, lady, but happy with the way the Sinterklaas celebration went yesterday. Kids were happy, we were happy, and with small and not too many gifts. Great fun surprises though (not sure that is how you call it), and a marvellous atmosphere.
looking now, dc
well, i know it's from the lower left N
sounds wonderful, sprite!
dc: na + canvas shelter, change vowel.
thanks sprite!
huh. i didn't know that was English.
ty, Sprite
yes, it was wonderful. :)
dc, since when is that a requirement of enable? :-)
true, true...
LOL... don't we love enable and all its incongruencies
fran, we played walleyball in HS
cool dc, for some reason i thought it was relatively new when i was in college, late 80s
i was in HS 85-89, so that'd be about right.
my friends were into racquetball so we'd see some people playing walleyball in the other courts.
Sprite that sounds wonderful. i had to look it up
heh, musta been entertaining to see
for a moment I wondered if it had anything to do with kangaroos
i guess it's not that unusual, but i think the name is cute
1st la5/12?
sprite, glad your sinterklaas celebration was nice.
we played it in the small gym in HS, so a bit larger than a racquetball court.
yeah, it was really good!
dc, I am sorry, no idea if mine are last
I have: not early, with inserted consonant, and the same word plural minus the last vowel.
it's before the road, sprite, if that helps
found it
hm, I have la5 after the road, so I must be really mixed up
it's rubble at the base of a mountain dc
base of a volcano to be specific, end sounds like laughter
mine are strips of wood used for roofing
and thanks for the road. didn't have it yet. :-)
ty, fran
that's mid-LAs, sprite
and heavy pole or stick
yw
or late, depending on which you have :)
hm, must be meaning another kind of road, I think
sin bin for you, dc!
only one road in the LAs, 2nd word.
you need an la5 before the country la** spritey
dc, you said it came before the road???
yes
I think dc sent me on a wild goose trip, or he means a word for road that I do not have, LOL.
la4 - a small road
i didn't have it until he mentioned it either sprite, i think it's because it builds left. :-)
I have the la4/4 as road and it is my second la word... so for me the last la5 comes after it.
1st la5 is before the road.
that's because he asked for the first la5/12 sprite. :-)
ty fran, we had a communication disconnect apparently :)
totally. I read: last la5. While he definitely wrote 1st. Never mind me!
that in6 has not enough letters.
lol sprite, you must have been up la**?
i'll be back
not really, I am having some word troubles since I am on my most recent pain meds. I say other words th4 I think and read others th4 there are. Thanks for bearing with me.
all good sprite, we all do that sometimes.
we had a whole thread in here about discalculia yesterday.
:D
best part, is we can all laugh about it :)
lol, same here, my kids have the best of fun about my slips.
ah, so it's independent of languageL
? not L
yes, and that is interesting in itself, lol.
strange, it takes united st5s, but not st5n island.
Spoke with a Mr Oosterveld in Ontario earlier today, thought of you.
that island is a proper name
similar accent to yours.
oh lol, yes, a totally dutch name that is.
I realise, but I always thought it was named after a real word, lol.
seems there is no getting rid of a dutch accent!
yes, i asked him. His wife is also dutch. There's a largish community in Sothern Ontario, mostly in shipping or farming of either flowers or potatos.
he's a flower farmer who ships his own produce.
i think the dutch accent carries through due to the large difference in the vowel sounds.
I wonder how many people call him Oosterveld with a proper O sound at the start (as in go). Most will say it starting OO as in oops, I think.
i would imagine the same would be true of english speakers speaking nederlands.
that is what they told me as well... accent is merely a matter of vowels.
didn't think to ask, but i know better.
ah well, you guys can understand us, and that is what it is really about :D
i've a friend whose surname is Japikse - it's fun how people butcher it. Even allowing for the fact that they've come to say it as Ja-PIKS-ey, with an english J.
indeed so, sprite. I'm always telling imigrants that an accent does not mean speaking badly. I'm a native speaker, and have a clear accent to others not from my region. no big deal.
and how is it really to be pronounced, dc?
oh, does 'jarja' mean anything?
not in dutch, sorry
jaja means yesyes, but that is as close as I can get
YA-pik-se - with short vowels, though a like spanish, not english.
thanks :)
just asked as 'jarja farm' is his business.
thanks?
for explaining the pronunciation of the name to me!
aha, in that case the word is not from dutch. Might be an abbrev combo of names of his family, or something else entirely.
Japikse is equal Jacobson in English, if i understand correctly.
ah, in Dutch that would be Jacops of Jakops of Jacopsen.
her paternal grandfather emigrated from Delft in the 1930s.
did you ever visit Delft? It is one of the most lovely cities in Holland.
only been to Spain in Europe thus far. Plan to fix that in the next 2 years. with Oxford, Amsterdam, and Madrid in the works, though likely not in that order.
will you let me know when you will be in Amsterdam? We could have a cup of coffee in the big city, or you could visit us at home, if you would like to :)
that would be lovely, and i most certainly will, as the purpose of that visit is to see my friends. Mike's son is 8, and i've yet to meet Maas in person. For that matter, haven't met Katelijne in person yet either.
that's mike's gf, mass and fien's mother.
sounds wonderful!
and it would be wonderful to meet you and your clan :)
you will be most welcome! We can cook you a dutch dinner even... I could ask my hubby to make us meatballs and sauerkraut st4.
appreciated, though i'm an ovo-lacto vegetarian - i've no clue how that meshes with the cuisine there. Sauerkraut is a fave of mine though - grew up with lots of it.
let me think... no meat, no eggs, no dairy products?
i eat eggs and dairy
i MUCH too lazy to be a vegan.
plus, i like my butter and cream
ah, ok! Just no meat! Well, if you are coming over, we will discuss the menu and make sure you can have everything that is on it. I can cook a decent vegetarian meal myself, we don't always eat meat here either.
few cuisines are entirely meat-ladden, and those that are tend to be more northerly than yours, like Scandanavia and Russia, for example .
ha5/18?
it is rather common in the netherlands to have meat with every meal, but I think it is not healthy.
don't have it yet, looking now
ha5.18 ha most of a thing with scales & fins
thats ha + etc
thank you lynxxx !
oh! i'm not sure i'd ever have monkeyed that.
ty, lynxxx!

phantom: slangwhanger
Hi bable
Hello, herin
hey BabbleRabble
hello, sprite
Hi BR - dont dare ask what that means
hello, lynxxx
awwww that was my hubby on the phone, telling me he loves me. I never knew that after more than 14 years together, people could still be so in love, but we are.
That is lovely SPrite
:D
we are all jealous Sprite!
fr. slangwhang, to assail with abuse] chiefly U.S. a noisy or abusive talker or writer; a ranting partisan
am sorry about that, lynxxx... would love for you all to have this much happiness in your relationships!
Happy here except hes in a shit and the cats gone mental
and of course we have our bad moments as well, if that is any consolation ;)
which is exactly what the word sounds like it means BR! good one
At least he range you that was very kind and lovely
it just made me so happy he did, that I wanted to share, lol
good morning everyone:)
morning jean
Hi Jean!
Sprite that is lovely. It really is.
thanks lady :)
I am looking at the disgusting world of age retouching for pageant photos
like signs of age are ugly. I love faces of older people.
very quick visit this am, happy babbling everyone will bbl:)
bye for now, jean!
Sprite i am talking about babies. 'Has YOUR child outgrown their photo'. that kind of thing. Its bad
whew, exactly 3/4 thru - time for list
I don't think I understand what you mean th4, lady
wtg lynxxx!
Ok Sprite you know baby pageants they have in the states for example. The get the photos and turn them into dolls
how weird! No, we don't have anything like that in the netherlands, I think.
Sprite i mean this. http://tinyurl.com/2owa35 it is quite disturbing what parents will do to have their perfectly cute kids made older
Herinfernallady, I quite understand what you are saying. I'm sure you heard of our case here, a few years back, of Jon Benet Ramsey? Mom's frustrated beauty pageant dreams taken out on a tiny child. They gussy them up & make them a pedophile's dream!
that is so disgusting
They don't allow a child to be a child. They make them look so much older than they are. Make-up slathered all over & even try to make them look like they have bosoms. It's disgusting.
Hi Queen yes i did mean that. We have natural pagents. My exs kid was a winner of a baby photo comp (take out in your back yard deal) he was a cute kid.
That's what they all should be like. A kid is the cutest thing in the world when allowed to be a kid!
I hate the pic at the right!
Which therefor reminds me i have to get my 3 year old picture redone as its torn and shabby. Its a family fav. Im all cute and stuff
I am watching Bones and they are talking about it.
I love that series, lady! Am waiting for it to be available on dvd in our region.
Had to wait till summer to see it. I love it.
it is on tv here, but I haven't been able to follow it. And on dvd is more fun anyway... I love disappearing into the whole story for a couple of hours.
So do i. I bought all 3 seasons of Deadwood as it wasn't on here. Thinking about hitting people up for ANgel for christmas
Ill tell you what i got my mum
yay, the first season is available!
I bought my mum and dad Metalica S n M dvd for chrissy
Angel... not sure about that one. How can he be alive after he sacrificed himself at the end of buffy?
nice, if they like metallica!
hey do
That was Spike not angel (droooooool)
owwwwww so true! How stupid of me! Guess I am mixed up because they are both so hot ;)
That is true
but isn't spike coming back in angel as well?
Have you seen interview w. Spike? certainly not up to the character (who I agree is v. hot)
never, lynxxx, I love to keep my illusions alive. I am not interested in the man, just in the char :)
Which one of James Masters have i not seen :D
phantom: athiest
as a superlative? Or a misspelt unbeliever?

forgive me for being thick - but I don't get the sportsman!!! I bet it is obvious.
Oh I got it!!!
I don't drive i will see
Sandie, a cricket player, football player, etc.
well some times i get an at7's foot
or is that at7's toe?
someone who sports a lot and is nimble and healthy and has a great condition.
can anyone tell me if the last sh7/32 begins with the same three letters as the word before it?
yayyy , congrats, lol
english isnt my native tongue so i screw up these things sometimes
if an at7 gets at 7 foot, what does an astronaut get?
I don't think so, rose. Starts with 3 consonants, but the 3rd is not the same.
helmet hair?
missile toe
LOL BabbleRabble
Saddy I speak clear English and sometimes enable doesn't work English
Saddy: I am no native speaker either. We manage though ;)

I emailed you yesterday regarding receiving a refund for order number 14546815 and I did not get any response. I have been emailing you now for the best part of a week now, the item I am after is a christmas present and I plan to purchase the item from elsewhere due to the no-show. Can you tell me when I will get my refund? Thanks Andrew Buchan. My girlfriend came home from shopping the other day and said she was complimented on her driving skills. She returned to her car and on the windscreen someone left a piece of paper saying "Parking Fine"

i just joined!!! im a rookie!
not for long, if you remember these words and the clues, lol
today was easier than yesterday by far
Saddy
just the time constrain dc - must go to work soon ...
3 Men are walking through a park and they stumble upon a lamp. Excitedly they rub it and a genie appears. The genie says "Hello there, as the founders of Grant the Genie, I will give you whatever you want." "You have to climb to the top of that slide, say what you want to land in at the bottom and then slide down."
http://tinyurl.com/3xekfg this is a link of diminutives
The first man climbs up the slide and says "gold!" - Sure enough, he lands in a heap of gold. The second man, sensing an opportunity to earn lots of money says "silver". The third man climbs the ladder and as he slides down he is having so much fun he shouts "weeeeeeeeeeeeee"...
so any (more blatant) clues for fr8?
Chappy Channukah Montreal
lol, I thought he shouted shiiiiiiiiit
or "shiiiiiiiiiiiit" for a ruder version :P and hi :)
lol Ata, great minds...
Hi Ata !

wouldn't it be great to be a cat
Merp doesn't know that in a couple of hours he is going to be stuffed into his travel case to go back to Vermont. If he catches on ahead of time, which he usually does desppite very precaution, we have to drag him out from th corner where he hides in the midst of a tangle of electrical wires and a fun time is had by all.
bye Mont
bye motreal
Eva you going on a trip?
sounds soooo familiar, Eva!
and the lettuce+french diminutive brongs me to a hundred
we've been in Boston for a few days, in his old apartment, which we still have.
My cat loves her crate. She sleeps in it its part of the furniture
YAY Saddy!
good!
wtg Saddy
It's cold in Vermont this morning, Eva
Do you think she could write to Merp please, and let him know how nice crates can be?
fireworks at last
I know Gail, and there have been 10 inches of snow while I was gone, so I'm looking forward to seeing the transformed landscape.
Eva I have it as part of the furniture. Its there for her to sleep in and be quite if she wants
YAY SPRITEY!
but thats a different "thing" to having a carry crate?
Yes, six inches in Rutland and lots of wind and sleet
Where are you in Vermont Gail (if you're comfortable saying)
Probably have to stuff her in there tomorrow to get the blasted disolvable stitch removed.
Congrats Sprite!
She purrs her head off when i walk her to the vet. YAHHH SPRITE
Got my answer......boy you guys have had a rough weather year. I'm about 10 minutes from Montpelier, and on top of a hill, so no worries re flooding like you guys.
yay 5 o'clock... time for me to go home.... still have loads of words left... i'll try to fit as many as i can tomorrow morning... though by the time i get to work theres only an hour or so left of the grid
yhoo... toodles my new babble friends
ciao, saddy
I am off too, back to the kids. Have a great day or night or whatever :)
bye Saddy - see you tomorrow
NIght Saddy and welcome
Bye SPrite
And Rutland also seems to attract huge winds, right?
Ok but don't forget my cat likes being bathed and vacuumed
I live in town now, so it's not so bad.
bye Sprite !
We lost our huge tree this summer and part of the garage.
g'day, sprite!
bummer, gail. wind?
wow. why is it so windy there?
Yes, huge windstorm
Ok i am going to its late
Cuz Rutland stinks lol I live here I know !!
nite Infernal
sorry just had to chime in ! lol
nighty night
Rutland does stink. It's ugly, too.
VERY !!!
Luckily I put the bird feeder back up just before I left for the city. I called Fish & Wildlife and they said that after the first snow most of the bears should be asleep. We'll see. Now I'll need snowshoes to get to the feeder to refill it.
I would rather have bears than robbers and muggers like we have here.
AMEN to that Gail !!
I should have stayed in New York !! lol
Sounds like it's time for the two of you to relocate!!It's beautiful up here. Come on up
I am never moving again. I'm sick of packing and unpacking
Anyplace is better than New York! I grew up there. Well, maybe not Newark
must away. Bye, everyone! {poof}
Well not out of state anyway
bye dc
bye DC
okay....100 left and getting too frustrated. Back later, from Vermont.
I should have stayed in Chicago
You guys sound like big city girls. Rutland has to be hard if that's true.
Adieu
Going too - very late dinner - nite everyone!
I love Boston, my daughter lives there. That's where I will go when I retire.
It's very hard Eva I spent 30 years in NY and this move was awful
nite lyn
do you two know each other? Sounds like you'd be good support for each other re being in exile in Rutland.
I can count my friends on one hand after 2 years of being here
I don't believe I know Gail
I know A Gail but it's not this one
Okay-now I'm really going. Have to get ready for the trek.
We have never met. Maybe we should. I have been here 20 years, lots of friends, but...
HAGD Eva
about time you knew another one then ;)
Yes I suppose it would be nice
I don't think we live all that far apart. I'm on Kendall Ave.
I'm on Terrill St. Rather close !
rather close ? why the heck did i say that ?
I think we knew this before. I used to work at Terrill and East Street corner. Walking distance for me.
I am 2 houses from the corner
amazing how small the world is sometimes, isn't it?
Yes it is !
Where did you work ? there's nothing but houses here
Speaking of work, I have to go. Maybe we can meet for coffee some time. There is a doctor's office on the corner. I work for the wife doctor and she left him two years ago and I went with. For good reasons.
ahhhhhh
Have a good day Gail
Thanks. My email is gfcarter@verizon.net. Gotta run now. I would love to meet up with you.
same here
hmmmm can I reach and get my jumper which the pup is resting against without waking her?
doubt it lol
you're right. she's awake
lol figured
but .... she's asleep again
hard life being a dog
yeah it's just horrible isn't it ?
awful
almost as awful as being a cat LOL
you got that right !
*looks at Silverclaw fast asleep in her little basket right next to my laptop*
awww
let me think. so far today she has: slept in her cat bed, slept on my hip, ate food, been given treats, slept on my feet, slept in her basket. yeah, hard hard life
oh yeah what a lousy life
appalling. I'll be called out Animal Cruelty before long
yes you better be careful
*giggle* she's such a spoilt little madam
they all are !
very true!
I need a break from these letters, I will be back after the baby gets on the bus !!
byee!
Oh dear. 252 words and I have an exam and paper tomorrow. Dr. God, you torture me!
at least its not 452 :P
what are you studying, Uni?
Right now, classical mythology paper and three hour exam in literary landmarks. Not hard so much, I just need to prepare
classical mythology? verrrrrry cool
Unfortunately, w are receiving the 1000 level lectures (first year) while I am in the second year course. I already know everything he said. Should make it easier, but mostly just boring. Thus, I babble! How're you, by the way?
trying to think which god or goddess out of classical mythology to draw :P I've got a topic of "Gods and Goddesses". And I always go the mythology route
It's so beautiful to see different physical interpretations of gods/goddesses
And the way that their "purpose" is always denoted in their looks
I'm wavering between Iris, Sedna, Hephaestus, Athene and Loki at the moment. Just a bit of choice!
Loki is fun because you have to give such good charcteization in his looks. I can only assume it would be tricky though!
I'd look to draw him sitting on his pointy rocks with venom dripping on him. But I'm not very good at making things look horrible and painful!
*love, not look
I'd rather be good at positive than horrible and painful, I think :)
me too ...
Baldor and the mistletoe dart would be fun, but its a really common thing, and I like trying to find things not many people draw
just new at this trying to understand it
Who has given you this assignment?
well, its not really something I have to do. There's an arty forum I post on a lot and every month we have a theme to post something on. And I *try* to do something every month, if only just a scribble. And this month is Gods and Goddesses
hi susan
Susan - Welcome to babble! If you check out the help link above this chatterbox, and look in the links below the babble grid (particularly Angelsongs babble page and lickety's babble clues) you'll be sorted out in no time
Ata, that sounds like a lot of fun. I always wished that I could draw something when I set my mind to it. Unfortunately, I can only handle houses, it seems
houses are good! and the main part of this monthly thing is to try and kick us all into working with subjects we don't feel at home with. Its very tricky sometimes!
I'm sure you get a huge sense of accomplishment from doing it though
when it works well LOL. Yes, its a very good thing for everyone involved
Oh, how's your dog doing? I never remember who is who. You have Hobbit
good morning
Maybe?
Yes, I have Hobbit :)
Haz has Spangle
Or Hobbit has you...Heh
Did she get re-coned, or is this just an old pic?
She's doing well, she's still got the Collar of Doom on though, poor babe, cos everytime I take it off she scratches so much we go back to square 1. grrrr
My kitty had to have eye surgery as he had something similar to entropian. He was acollared for ten days I believe, but at first the vet gave us too big a cone and he figured out how to gt it off. So for the very first day, we chased him around the house putting his cone back on! When we finally let it off, he went nuts...groomed his eye for hours
((after it had healed enough))
I bet! poor babe! Hobbit goes mad grooming her pawss whenever I take the collar off when she's in eyesight. Her paws have never been groomed so much!
Bo was unimpressed with the fact that his fur had to be shaved around his eye. Looked ridiculous for quite some time
oh my! LOL I bet! And Hobbit does look a little silly with 1 shaved ear ...
Does her ear seem to be healing though? Don't want her to look goofy forever! :)
Yowsa a bigger grid today. Hi all
its healed fine. just got to keep the collar on long enough now for the skin to strengthen and start growing some fur again so she can't scratch it all away again
Ata, Hobbit does not look quite as pitiful in your icon today
Hi Peri! This grid is here to distract from things you really should be doing
hi peri
hello everyone.. this is my first time. This game seems fun
welcome fundays
we had snow yesterday and now have a coating of ice on roads and cars and windchill is 9 degrees
she's got used to the collar now, and bounces around eveywhere just like normal now. Nope, no pitifulness any more
:-)
having found this site, life as you knew it is over
mn
oops sprry that was silverclaw
I know.. i don't know how I am going to get work done today.
I must admit, it is kinda hard. I don't think I know 5 words that start with x.. ha ha
you won't. accept it
i am not going to do work
hahaha
ha.
i accept fundays, you should too
work is just a 4 letter word
I know... It is crazy. I have so much to do today, but it isnt looking good. HA HA
hello everyone!
gm annie
hi Annie, how are you today,
hi peri and Jean, I am feeling much better, thanks
Three boys called Mind your own business, Poo and manners are walking down a street one day. They are not looking where they are going and poo falls down a man hole. Manners tries to reach down to rescue him while Mind your own business runs to a local police station
He says to the policeman "quick quick my brother has fell down a hole" "Hold on hold on, whats your name?" says the policeman "Mind your own business" says the boy "Oi, wheres your manners" said the angry policeman "down the road picking up poo"
LOL, bf
Good morning Babble buddies.
I agree---5 words starting with X???
Good morning, Scrabbler
hello all.
hi there Scrabs
I hear ya scrabbler
**monkeys are freed from cage**
I've a feeling the monkeys are going to go on strike in protest
Hi Perwinkle--I played Bogglific last night--different rules than Noggin so it caught me off gurad.
at least 3 revolve around a sciencey word for yellow
hi everyone
:)
And here is my lil*monkey out of her cage, LOL
actually they all do. all the same first 5 letters
how do you spell them atalante?
Hi Ms Gilly
Aha, Atalante--TY
hi scrabbler
if I told you how to spell them, that might be a bit obvious LOL
was hoping you wouldn't notice that
tee hee , i'm out of my cage but not on strike... working on the x's
I know the first 5 letters now and am working on creating the rest.
xa7/52 gum is a common food additive if that helps
just try all sciencey endings, scrabbler!
ata, do all the x's start like xa7,52 ???
all have the same first 5 letters
TY ata
I am going to ignore the X for a while and enjoy finding normal words.
I need a clue for the X words. I am totally lost
me too
Scrabble Dictionary to the rescue!
lol
the xa7.52 is E415 food additive
Done with X---all beging with same first 5 ltrs, as Ata said, the prefix for "yellow". Endings are (1) indefinitie article, (2) past tense of to eat, (3) pl that, (4) Suddam Huss***, and (5) pl that
I drug 3 of them out of the scrabble dictionary
Pluralize 2, EJ, and you are done too.
is that yellow word used medically, Scrabs? I just know it from biology stuffs
And we have all increased our word power for the day. I am a better person now than I was 10 minutes ago.
Scrabbler, thanks for saving me the trouble, kisses going your way....
and the monkeys are happy too
thanks Scrabs and Ata
have all the x's now
Yes, Ata--xanthomas are yellow growths on the skin--filled with cholesterol, if I am correct.
i got all 5 x's, i'm a happy monkey :)
let's all do the HAPPY DANCE together!
anyone not got the first 5 letters now? *grins*
*hop, skip, jump, hop, skip, jump*
That is the least I could do for everyone, Ata. :-)
its a nice word. we had xa***flavins and stuff
Sure, you say it after I follow the clues!
And I have a patient with bone tumors called xanthofibromas.
thats a good word, if it sounds a horrid thing to have
They are benign, at least for her.
oh ... good!
ok.. i am so dumb. i am not seeing it.
ha 5,18?
It is 19 degrees F and with huge snowflakes slowly falling--beautiful despite the temp.
Fundays--use the first 5 letters of the words I threw out there, then follow my clues for the endings
yellow??? I am more confused now
google the food additive E415
BBS--going to check e-mail.
afternoon all
hi katie
thanks.. I got it
ok, i'm leaving those x words for last...
anyone know how to lower a 102 temperature?
Sukee, if you go back in chat a little bit, scrabbs spelled it out for you :)
paracetamol
Umm, acetominophen? I don't know. I always just wait out fevers
try tyenol
I'm taking aspirin right now, going to the doctor later
cold fluids
and tylenol
I hope you feel better soon...drink lots of water
not aspirin, take acetominophen
ty :) I don't have anything else right now. I'm going to pick up something else at the drugstore
At least the good part is I am home and can play Babble :)
where do the words babble has come from!
that should work. it normally does. it makes you feel a bit worse, then breaks the fever
thats a very good thing!
found 1/2 on first go round and have at least 1 words from each square, bbs
Babble is a combination of Boggle & Scrabble
later, peri
OH.....a program generates the words each day
They come from enable dictionary. Which doesn't enable all real words but makes it's own! :)
dam right it makes its own
poor enable, we dislike it so much
I'm still mad that it taikes zaire, but not mexico!
but mexico aint a currency ;)
Morning Babblers and thanks for the clues for the X!
It is in my world. And that is what matters!
lol
hi Nono!
ha 5,18?
is it the currency of mexico?
It is the currency of Houyhnhnmland (Gulliver's Travels) ;)
oooooo cool
ha5...ha + make a ***t to punch the bag
news
nest
wow, how did you get that word! thanks
ooops sorry
my monkies found it bf
i'm off to the pb now hope it is well stocked
catch you later, i have under 200 to go!
you should have just pretended you had been brilliant!
well Ata i did tell the monkies what was needed does that count
oh I think so :)
did you call out a monkey? :)
nah they were already out LOL
hi everyone.. that ha word was deleted from the acceptable Scrabble words, dunno why .. tuff grid today.. for me at least
hi aloy
hi Aloy!
hi Nono and Annie.. I hope the trend toward larger grids as we approach the holidays does not continue toward monster grids as this is a time my "to do" list of non-Babble activities keeps growing too!
i hear ya aloy
The bigger grids are nice...just, interfering with exam period for me. LoriP complains as lobster season has started too
how does lobster season interfere with babbling?
She works LONG days now...gone at 7, home to make supper around 6
once i go home for break, she will be working over 12 hours a day
am sure by the time she is done she is too tired to do much but go to bed
oh, wow.. i understand.. i tried, but had to give up on babble while i was teaching.. same reason.. long days
Pretty much. She has to cook, clean, laundry, take care of kids, work, sleep and try to babble, lol. I admire all of you who work and babble, I just do it instead of study
how long does lobster season go on Uni?
A long time. June? July? One season ends, but another goes two months longer
It is just december/january/february that is REALLY bad
Good morning, Nono, Uni, Aloy and all!
{{Annie!}}} I didn't see you!!
Good morning, Scarlet!!!
Hi, Sunshine!
**Scarlet!**
**Uni-Clue**
This looks to be a real fun grid! Another fabulous reason to goof off for a little bit! :-)
We're gonna have a new version of CLue (the game)here soon, if we're not careful...It was Scarlet...in the grid...with the monkeys!
I don't know what that means, Uni, but I am laughing really hard now....
hello everyone... I love this game. I have just started playing today
Hi again fundays :)
Good morning, fundays!! Welcome to insanity, fun and a life-long addicition!!
welcome, fundays! You have started with a challenging grid..
Just came back...{{{Scarlet}}}
Hello dear friend, Annie!
I have so much to do and I keep pulling myself away and I am being pulled back...
Did you make a lovely first-night Channukah meal last evening, Annie? I am so in the mood for latkes... think I'll do it tonight!
My daughter and family will be here on Saturday for Chanukah and then it is latke fest...I love potato latkes
Latkes are delicious
So do I, Annie...with sour cream... beloved likes applesauce, and daughter loves sour cream and applesauce... I can taste them now!! :-)
any clues for the i words
Sour cream for me!
in4.4 motels
fundays, I just started, so no help from me... YEA for Annie... we know what's good! :-)
Latkes are the only thing I like ketchup with
I've never had latkes :(
Although, sour cream and cheese is always good
Uniquity!
in5.10 the jewel was in*** into the gold ring
Uni... that's funny... sometimes I mix a little ketchup withe the sour cream... everyone goes "Yerch" but it tastes good to me!!
Hi al
*all* even
welcome back, peri
Hi, Ata... they are easy to make!! {{{Peri-kins!!}}}
I like peanut butter, jelly and cheese! Mixing is good
easy or easy for culinary idiots?
thanks aloy.. i just got blocked
making breakfast bbs
Easy easy
good morning peri... oops, she just flew by
The recipe my mum and i use involves...flour, pepper, potato, onion. That's it
I could manage that!
salt, uni
VERY easy, Ata... grate the potatoes, add Uni's stuff, and I add a half-teaspoon of baking powder and some freshly-chopped parsley to it... nice, not canola oil... not to the smoke point, and drain on paper towels, and pop into a 250-degree oven whilst you continue making them.
*HOT* not *not*
ooooo, yes easy!
Oh! They are good with syrup too! I discovered that when we made potato pancakes ins chool which are pretty much just the "Acadian" version
Syrup! Acccckkkkk
mayonnaise. I'd have them with mayonnaise. Or aioli
how about ketchup?
Syrup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Uni!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can eat them with anything. They are great on their own too. Potatoes can't be bad
Sour cream and salt, that's it
Hi Scarlet and anyone else i missed while checking email
home fries are always good when a little maple syrup gets on them
mmmm. now I need food. brb
Hi, Nono.... the ketchup thing has been covered, Aloy... LOL. Hi, lideola...
hi : )
you have made me hungry for latkes, may have to make some for supper tonight
We have a global Babble Latke dinner thing going on
I know, Nono... I have talked myself into it!! :-)
home fries/hash browns/ potato pancakes/ latkes- all very similar, so I imagine that what tastes good on one will taste pretty good on another
Latkes reign!
I am back
Hiya, everyone!!!!!
at least they all have similar ingredients... different preparations
There is something a little magical about a good latke, though... I am not a fry fan... but a latke... {{{peri!!}}}
ah so, Scarlet.. just scrolled back. Have been buried in grid.... hey, movieman!
welcome back, peri..hi mm
Good morning to you, movieman... Want a latke?
I like latkes too but find grating the potatoes by hand to be very tedious, Scarlet would you volunteer to make latkes for our Chanukah part this Sat.
I'd just like to get those bloody x words out of the way first, so......any cluez plz?
What is a latke?
*party*
oh a good belgian fry reigns supreme to me- creamy in the middle and crisp on the outside
potato pancake movieman
mm, a potato pancake
Movieman - Scrabbler clued them all this morning, read back in chat
Antyhing that involves a potato is delicious in my books!
Sounds nice.....
X + picnic pest + opp of Love..
mm, the x-words all start with the same 5 letters
pierogies!
X: the first 5 letters for all is the name of a magical land created by piers anthony.
Yes, I will, peri... I don't mind the work at all... I use my Cusinart for the grating... Zoom, and it's done... after many tedious years of doing it the old-fashioned way!
Pierogies... ohmygosh... love them, too! With fried onions and sour cream!
pierogies are quite different but every bit as good as latkes
okay, will be expecting you on Sat. unless someone is kind enough to buy me a food processor for Chanukah
I am back from playing my latest addiction = Noggin.
love the food processor... and love the mandolin for scalloped or au gratin potatoes
I would love a mandolin too.
what's Noggin?
hi Scrabs
Hi, Scrabbler.
you guys are making me hungry!! :-)
oh yes, pierogies are very different but incredible in their own right. one of my favorite dinner nights is the soup & pierogi night
I is a game llike weboggle and Bogglilfic, Aloy
A 4 x 4 word grid, played over 180 seconds. Shortest word = 3 ltrs. It is fast paced with just 20 sec between rounds. Babble helps me.
ty for the info, Scrabbler..
Peri--in Bogglific--you score points when you find words that the other players do NOT have, correct?
*it* is
Afternoo all......
yes Scrabs
hi there, Flask!
Hi Flask
hi Flask
It threw me off with my only game, Peri.
Got the x's.....with some major assistance.....would never have got them on my own
Yahoo, MM!
{{{ Flask-A-Riffic }}}
Hi there - funny I do not have the word list underneath today? or something that tells me how many words left?
Scrabs you can see who you are playing against, if too many of the others have a higher rating than me, I chose another game :-)
Awww thanks Scarlet......I need it today.....
Maybe your 14 day trial period is over--time to go pro, PP
I will try it again tonight, Peri. fish
OH, Flask... bad day, dear?
Scrabbler!!!
off to the sin pen
Hi Aloy! How are you? and baby?
OOpsss to Scrabbler!
lol... your piscine booboo
hey, how did that word end up at the end of my sentence?? Sorry!
*putting cookies in the penalty box for scrabbler*
An uncle that my brothers and I were brought up with is dying.......his brothers and sisters have been sent for...and he is now on morphine......not good am afraid!
Oh, sweetie.... sending you a strong hug. Babble is very good to do when the world gets sad and crazy...
Keep him peaceful and comfortable, Flask, and wish him a good passing. You will miss him. ((Flask and uncle))
the baby swing arrived yesterday.. the diapers the day before.. house is gearing up.. can't wait to see her again.. parents relay that she is still keeping them up nights but looks to be thriving
Flask, I am so sorry to read that {{flask}}
I hope they are chocolate chip, Annie.
thanks everyone!
oh, so sorry, Flask.. just read
scrabbler, none other than chocolate chip
thanks Aloy!
My "dinner" last night was half a carton of Edy's fudge brownie double churned ice cream. Naughty Scrabbler.
Now that's a nutritious double delicious dinner
ok am diving in....***SPLASH***.......
I just "needed" it, Annie.
*gets towel and wipes myself*
tonight for dinner me and friends are going out for tea, my friend Christine just turned 19
great googely-moogely! an x with 5 words!
19---just a baby.
yeps im much older than her!
I clued them a bit ago, raelite, if you check the archives from about an hr ago.
Scrabbler, I have been in "need" also and have finished cartons of ice cream...good for the soul
{{{{raelite}}}}
((annie)) - scrab, I had half a box of ferrero rocher for dinner
TY for alleviating my guilt, Annie.
LOL, anytime, scrabbler
Well, it looks like we all periodically need to get our serum chocolate levels up in the therapeutic range.
I have to get ready for work--meeting my dad first as he is taking my car to get new tires.
later, scrabbler
I shall return tonight.
see you scrab, have a great day
Enjoy the day everyone!
You too, Scrabbler.. see you next time!

Good morning/afternoon all.
sh7/32 - variation of spelling of the Yiddish village. sh, infamous Vietnam offensive (three letters), masculine Spanish 'the'.
morning Haz
Morning Haz
Good morning flosey. Th4/5 is a twisty little grid. Hello Uniquity!
Hopefully my tea will help me make progress. At 98 for now..
Tea helps most situations, they say.
lol, coffee sure didn't help !
I see the Yiddish word for small town and for to drag or haevy load are in the grid. Guten MOrgen, all, I am down to my last two words. can anyone clue ph 8/50 and na 4/4?
I covered all eventulalities - most situations, not all!
Not I, Inge!
ph8/50, pluralize ph7
na is a palendrome
Good morning inge - ph8/50 is the plural for ph7/36 - p, plus the chicken consumed food.
na4/4 - a type of Indian flat bread - make the na a mirror image of itself.
Beautiful Haz, muchly appreciated
You're welcome.
oh ho ho Haz chicken consumed food indeed!!!
they spell the yiddish small town wrong.
I couldn't think of anything else on the spur of the moment.
Not bad for an off the cuff!!!
i have ar8, ph8, and xa8 x2, what do the other 2 8's start with please
This may be a variation of the original spelling, though.
fr8/55 is one
there must be two wasy of spelling it, mkg, are you qeustioning the enable dictionary? :)
ph8/50 is the other
oh my how dare i question enable........they holy dictionary.
cant get that ph 7 word nor either of the ph 8s
ph8 - a Jewish religious leader
thanks Haz
actually there could be many since yiddish is not written in english letters. so the yiddish spelling is open to intrepretation and if you were galitz you pronounce it one way and litvak pronounces it another
You're welcome.
what ph is a jewish religious leader? i only know rabbi or i guess you could say a gabi is a leader.
yaaawwwwwwwn hi!
So you are wrong to say that it's spelled wrongly then?
Hello Atalante.
Hi again Ata
I thought about going to Hobbycraft, but then thought I'd just stay here and babble instead
I need the first ph 8/50, not the second which is a plural, did I miss my clue?
ph8 - religious leader spoken of in New Testament. p, rearrange slightly what grows on your head (four letters) then three letters of what your eyes do.
no clues just comments inge.
ph8/50 is the Jewish religious leader, clued below, inge.
Thanks again Haz
you mean those guys that kept critizing Jesus?
what jewish religious leader is a ph???? i dont get it. i am an orthodox jew....what are we speaking of? a sect?
"I danced for the scribe and the ph8, but they would not dance adn they would not follow me"
The ones, inge (or one in this case)
those are the kids!!
hey harlie!!
mkg - I've given a spell out clue below. Please read it and follow the directions to get the word.
Fireworks, firewords, and all the rest. Thanks for the clues. Better look at the video.
oh those were a sect, not religious leaders. will look back haz.
I give up.
google the lyrics I gave below!
haz i dont see the spell out and am trying it. i know who the sect was but the grid isnt taking it.
Use morewords and you'll find it, mkg or wwwa2zwordfinder.com.
oh my i just got it and i have never seen it spelled this way......oh blessed be enable.
its a perfect normal way to spell it
and for the record, they werent religious leaders, but a sect of judiasm
If you look up the definition, it likely refers to something different than you had expected
Be sure to clue it that way when you offer to clue it for other people. I'm out.
i spell it with ie at end not what they do. but my sources are from the hebrew. oh well.
haz, you have mail
mkg. there is something wrong when you annoy one of the nicest people on babble to the extent of her leaving the chat. please don't be awkward. if you really can't get a word, come back to it later
Ata - Thank you

ha, ha , ha, is thre an echo?
Echos are common in here :) And Haz, if you're reading - I got your clues perfectly
: D
if anyone would be willing to clue some X's for me, it would be appretiated. i have one x7.52.
I got a late start this morning, but I only have 35 to go, so it isn't bad at all.
well, Haz, I knew the guys from Bible class! Just needed your guidance
Deb, they all beign with those five letters
take the same first 5 letters, deb and monkey
omg there 's an X 7?
as well as two8s and two 9s
I am taking a break to write my year end Christmas letter, before the year ends due to procrastination
for a total of 5, of which I have none....
yep and 2 x8's and 2 x9's
Breathing cleansing breaths. I'll lurk for a while if that's okay.
Fireworks!!!!! Does anyone need any help before I go?

Congrats Sandie!!! **party**

yay sandie! hi haz
Hello TO. Looking forward to seeing Ata's cake. No tasting offered, did you notice that?
oops, cleaning lady will be here in minutes and not even dressed !!! bbl
yes i DID
We'll just have to imagine what it tastes like.
this grid needs xanax. or may I do
hi haz who's under the stairs this week?
I'm still waiting for George to come back. FM has promised him as an advance for a film script.
If he doesn't arrive, I'll know who to blame, won't I?
I have a proof of posting now!!
maybe the lady in the post office stole him
Were you able to squeeze in all the details on the form?
tasting was offered yesterday when it was still just a smidge warm and yummy!
got the x's. thanks guys:)
yes I can write really small
Yikes I don't know what just happened but my computer froze and kicked me out! so, does anyone need clues?
So, you're saying it's too late for a taste? I'm sure it'll be great.
I look forward to his reappearance, witchy.
of course you can have a taste *offers round* it tastes yummy, if not the prettiest-looking cake ever
Perhaps you could sweep out his cupboard or soemthing to make it more habitable
Ok gonna make some coffee - maybe I could have some cake as well!!!!
is it by any chance yellow with chocolate icing that is my all time favorite
its yellow, but with buttercream icing and jam
Has George complained about his accommodation? It was passed by the Tourist Board as being fit for a star. Or did they mean one star accommodation?
mmmmmmmmty ata!
I'm sure Spangle would share her kennel if neceessary
George is used to top notch accomodations...
He told me it was the best dressing room he'd ever had
And you think my cupboard isn't top notch? I could huff, you know.
aale
sorry
You don't want to create a negative environment before his return! He's very sensitive to the emotions of his captors...er, i mean hosts!
I'll bear it in mind. Have you ever seen some of the demands made by the stars with regards to their dressing rooms?
I've heard bad things
Rose petals in the toilet, pink champagne in the bath, that kind of thing.
ok, cake in icon! its not the prettiest thing ever, but its a culinary triumph for me!
I'm sure he is quite a fan of the feminine details..hopefully he's not allergic to Spangle
I don't know where to go on the al's help?
His main demand was a doggy blanket and a bowl of bonios
Looks yummy Ata!
It looks good, Atalante!
If he's allergic to Spangle, he's no use to me.
I'm sure he's not
yes it does. cake is my wekness, and cookies and pastry. you can keep candy and iced cream
I'm more than willing to take him off your hands :)
But Uniquity, how would you manage with your studies and all?
me too, TO. I can walk past chocolate and sweets and most things any day, but stick a cake in front of me and I'm a disaster
And the fact I don't have a cupboard...or stiars. just a bach. pad. Hmm...perhaps I have let things get away from me
hello all... our power is out AGAIN! I have about ten more minutes of generator time before I have to shut it off and go into town for errands.
help with the bottom row h?
Hello stidmama!
"laughs" deb...
stid - I finally got hold of my Astoria friends this morning. They still have no power, and maybe not for another 5 days. No cell phone networks. They had winds of 125mph. A lot of roads washed away. Pharmacies closed, everything closed
*stands ready with fish*
hey stiddy, i saw your bbq restaurant on cnn...unfortunately you'll have to drive a bit longer to get to it...
thanks stid, thought i had tried that:)
oh man... yes, as the info gets out we are hearing of more and more places like that. Still, glad they were okay.
I need help with the AL words I have the greek A
LOL yes, washed it further down the road... luckily they have a small sandwich shop in town -- but no flood insurance. So a fund has been set up for them. We will be contributing...
thanks for that one ruru
they are ok. Their house has half the roof shingles it had before, and their lovely new fence is all over the garden. But they are ok, and this time next week they'll be over here away from the storms anyway
there is also the hebrew A
Oh stid...that is a lot of no power. Lower power bill though!
al5/14 - three letters for beer, then the letters that are pronounced f, then plural

And what was the right answer?
(Just kidding, we all know it's the grizzly)
black bear. duh. LOL. pneguin? PENGUIN???
ha ha he just got voted off for being an idiot
Maybe they knew it began with a p and their mouth engaged before the brain swung fully into action.
He'll not be a candidate for Eggheads then.
I think thats what always happens in the weakest link. it does lead to amusing moments though!
True!

Hi Eva
hi Eva, yeah Hydra
how goes it?
Progress is being made
good to hear!
i think i see the hebrew village bu can't sspell it : (
im trying to hunt down an inexpensive space-heater... apparently the one ive used here at work for the last 7 years is "illegal" for the office because it doesnt have a tipover shutoff feature...
if ther eis a problem,THEY should provid eyou a heater. what does your union say?
how big of a heater do you need EvaN?
sandr, do you still need the sh 7/32 clue?
i dont work for a union. they dont provide space heaters here -- im just abnormally cold compared to most people... i just need a tiny one -- i like it to point on my feet during the day. i just dont want to spend very much money, since the one i have does work...heh
i found a good one on amazon for $25 but its another $12 in shipping... gonna try to swing by the hardware store tonight...
you should be able to find one fairly cheap then and all of them now i think have the shut off feature
lots of the ones online talk about a thermal shutoff (as in, its shuts off if it gets too hot) but they dont mention a tipover shutoff
yes your best bet is to try to buy locally.... shipping can kill you online on inexpensive items
Plus, you'll have to wait
yeah. i just dont like going out once im home...heh
do it on the wasy home,
Thats a good solution TO LOL
i dont drive to work + the stores arent walkable -- gonna try to get chris to pick me up from the metro station + take me to the hardware store...
i do...saves gas, too. once i am in i am IN
whatever, lunch is over *poof*
Bye TO
latan
mean later
someone told me the CVS across the street from my office had them for under $20, but when i just went over there on my lunch break, they didnt have any... no wonder, since it just snowed yesterday...heh
you should ask them to get you one from another location
Can youaskthem to order one for you Eva?
can I have a clue for the last ST 5/10?
not worth it -- unforunately, most of the people who work there arent too swift... id be better off just foraging on my own... no worries, though.
phan st5/10 is a large drinking mug best full of beer
no, there is one after that...
Or its medical thing put in your heart to keep the artries open
that's the one! Thnx Cait
YW phan that gets me every time!

i guess its really opposite of "she"
Afternoon, lumpkins and pumpkins. Fireworks!

Harp, is that underwater bicycle racing? LOL
yes, shake and cry. why are you mad?
Yes, a long time ago, rae...what's wrong?
oh just evil customers making me crazy. I'll be fine but it's such a weird sensation
Tis the season to be insane...
Hi, Une and raelite!!
hi scarlet
howdy, scarlet!
rae -- i have! way back when i used to work at the museum, i had to have someone thrown out...
what kind of customers are you serving (getting mad at)?
aa clue please
How are you, Une? We are almost in the 60s today, with a nice weekend approaching...
they are customers buying products for their rosacea and acne: two conditions aggravated by stress
in the 30s here but warming up this weekend . . .
when you get in a warm bath, you say aa* then plural
MLF... the sound you make when you kick off some tight shoes...

Hi again, back to finish up - hopefully
hey, flosey
aa 4: not oohs
Hi, flosey and Nan!!
lol ty scarlett
:-)
you work for a dermatologist?
hey, nan ;-)
nope, I work for a cosmetics company
I guess folks with those conditions aren't in such a great mood to begin... and then, you need to help them feel better about themselves... sounds tough, rae.
anything really work to reduce fine lines? :)
i know stress doesn't help
hi flosey and une
oh yes, we have a great product for that, it's a glycolic acid peel
WHAT stress, deb? LOL
i don't have much stress at my job, since i get to play babble a good part of the day and help animals feel better the rest of the time.
does anyone know the last x clue
you can check out our website at www.zenmed.com
a acid peel to do at home?

oh that's nasty!
actually her face looks kinda like melting wax
they get their eyes shaped like a cat and a cleft under their nose like a cat
oh Jocelyn Wildensomething?
Exactly... and she's complaining that her therapist is telling her that her problems go deeper than addiction to surgeries...
that's disgusting
Right, Ata... a certifiable nutcase!
ty flosey
hi nan, did you get my clue?
yw

Mlfan, but some of these clues together
HA 5/18? please
yes uni i thought so
It was the middle of Uniquity's clue for the SH 7... the Vietnamese New Year... or Offensive during the war...

ends in pigment change on the beach
nan! LOL
how in the heck are we supposed to know islamic devils!

se 6/18: first part of upper house in parliament + louse egg
Before the days when dogs were used to sniff out drugs at airports, many different animals were tried, including chickens, due to their superior sense of smell. Things went awry, however, when the Sergeant in charge of the Poultry Unit was arrested for drug trafficking. At his arraignment, the Press was scandalized when he pled guilty, but he remained indignant. "What did you expect? I ran a fowl of the law!"

Ohhh... just monkeyed a new word for me: sw6/33... will check it later. Ata, how was your cake? Wonderful?
does it look nice???? :D
Will check!
clue that sw, red??
Ata... is that a jam in the center? Yes, it DOES look good... was it tasty?
jam and then buttercream icing - its a traditional thingy here
it tastes GOOD!
deb, it is the first four letters of the preceeding word, adding use an emory board to fi** your nails.
It is making me so hungry for a sweet... buttercream is directly from heaven... Oh, nice!!
ty
there are so many more complicated icings, but how can you better buttercream??!
Glad you found it, deb!
The only one better than buttercream is whipped cream frosting with heavy cream (lots of it) with a dusting of vanilla sugar or vanilla confectioner's sugar and beat the heck out of it. What is the name of your creation, Ata?
I dont like cream, so I'll stick with buttercream :P well, its a trial run for next week when I'm going to attempt to splodge together a birthday cake
You have something for which I have lusted: double cream... not available in the states. Nice trials, though... my beloved is wonderful to help with the test cakes! :-)
you cant get double cream???? O.O
Eating... not baking them! No, alas, not here!
never heard of double cream
i all
*hi* all
wow
Oh, peri... I would love to have some to do experiments...
and you can't get *proper* clotted cream either :(
is it that good, Scarlet
never had clotted cream
not as good as clotted cream. I don't like cream, and even I will eat clotted cream whenever possible. Its divine
well, then Scarlet we must take a trip across the pond asap
Ata, it is like our whipped cream?
Peri... it's like sour cream, it's that thick, but it is purely heavy cream... pack your suitcase, peri-kins... we're a goin' over the big water! LOL
I am ready now, Scarlet
and clotted cream is even thicker and richer. its more solid than liquid
Ata, do you have room for Scarlet and me?
Ata.... please call Heathrow... two starving American women are coming soon...
Oh, divine, Ata...
Wow, would love to try the double cream and clotted cream
just turn up!
will let you know when our flight arrives, Ata
www.roddas.co.uk - look there and salivate!
Clotted cream has been a siren call for years... not that I have actually ever tasted it...
Okay, Ata... thanks...will look.
going to check it out now Ata
I wish I could send you some but I dont think it would taste very nice after sitting in a box for a week!
thanks for the thought though Ata
surelly there is a place in New York city that one could find some clotted cream, they seem to have everything else
will have to ask my friends who live in the Big Apple to check it out for me
you would hope! I have had some "clotted cream" in Oregon, but it wasn't like the way its made over here, it was just sweetened whipped cream. bah!
The only thing I can think of that is comparable is the rich cream that is sweeter than cream cheese, and I can't think of the proper name of it... I use it in French pastries...
where do you buy it Scarlet
you could - in *theory* - make your own clotted cream. I *think*. You boil up cream until it solidifies a bit
mascarpone?
aha - http://www.cornwall-calling.co.uk/food /clotted.htm
that site has recipes and mail order in the US!
thanks Ata will check that out later
brb
That's it, Kateq!!!! thank you!
kind of. if you take marscapone texture and make it taste like cream. but richer. you'd get something like clotted cream
just looked up mascarpone and thought that is what you might be using Scarlet
I use the marscapone in many baked goods, especially the phyllo dough/cherry goodies!!
when are you inviting me over, Scarlet, I am a very good pastry taster :-)
I will even bring Trader Joe's truffles or make my own
Turnovers, small Sunday bruch pastries... LOL, I bet, peri... Oh, Ata, I am just longing for clotted cream now...
I am longing for clotted cream too :(
sorrrrrry!
Truffles and French pastries... I can feel my jeans breaking apart at the waistline now... (Not that I give a hoot :-)
ever get the wine from trader joe's? prices can't be beat
used to like the meringues there but don't buy them much anymore
know, I've not seen wine in our Trader Joes
meant *no*
some states don't have it- I have to go to Virginia to get the wine cuz our stores don't have it either
I do give a hott
*hoot* can't seem to type well today
i often make the trip just to stock up! best $4 wines around
I like wine but it gives me a headache
Why, peri... I thought you were a tall, skinny, like me...
I am tall and skinny like you, Scarlet and want to stay that way
better that you don't spend more than $4 for a bottle of headache then :)
Hellfire and brimstone, peri... I am 62... if I never got fat before...even during pregnancies, I never will...
:-)
I probably won't either Scarlet
i was sorry to see a 252 word puzzle today, i was hoping to finish much more quickly
OH! A grid, Noah... better get into it! (Right, peri! We couldn't get too chubby, even if we really tried!) I still have 83.
hello everyone!
52 ledt here
Hi Niamh
138 for me..
*left even
Hi, Niamh!! Did you choose a name for your baby? LOL
anyone have a clue for the first ph 8?
I would like to thank everyone who gave me ideas yesterday on my puppy's name. I kinda swung wide with Ata's idea of cloud... her name is Rain
Those who dominated the interpretations for the people during the time of Jesus, bichon.
That is wonderful, Niamh!!
*religious*

I just can't get too excited over a dog named "Ralph" Noah... LOL
all of my cats have had human names
interestingly Ralph wasn't on there
NA + the same letters, flipped
it a palindrome, phan
7 of the top ten cat names were human i think
f + get up
tiger and smokey still on the list
I have always named my cats after Greek or Roman gods and goddesses
ok thnx! am done now
na4 is Indian Bread
Yahoo for phandmd!!
it occurred to me when reading this that my cat's name is human too: Wesley
I did a lot of reading on names... my sister is upset with me settling on a name like Rain, she thinks it should have been more exotic.
Scarlet, how many words do you need to find?
i had a cat named Oliver growing up. a human name yes, but anot a popular one this century
congrats fellow marylander
hi everyone
(sings Maryland, my Maryland)
I have 83 more, peri... and enjoying a pokey time through the grid.
Hi, tat2

Right, phand... and the moneylenders...
My daughter wants a huge dog and name it kitty
ty momo
LOL, Ata... we're both a little warped...
ack he's eating the cords behind the computer-- that always gets my attention
My daughter's cat, Penguin, does the same thing, Noah... and makes her crazy with worry...
hello everybody. Trying to finish this grid and really stuck on 4. Can anyone please help???? sh 6/30 and the sh4/5 following it. Also, the last sh5/14 and sh7/32. ty for any help.
nurse, the sh6/30 sounds like the top guy in a western.. the one with the shiny badge, change the first vowel, then end the same.
SH 4/5 is the past tense of a vulgar expression (SH**)
sh6/30...Omar Sh****
sh 6/30 = as kids we are told to sh**e (- the E) + preposition
i don't think he does it when i'm not here- it's just to get a rise out of me
s + head gear
SH 7/32 sh+ have a cuppa, minus last vowel + ***l me a secret
sh 5 - is to carry
sh + french for head + stick ltr
whew!!! Terrific clues. I can't thank you enough!! Starting to lose it here. Ty so much all. Welcoming fireworks today. Your help was much appreciated.
Yahoo for nurse!!!
The same thing with my daughter, Noah... only when she is using the computer!! Wily kitties!
pretty smart actually
I know... they have us trained to a "tee" and fully get the reactions they intend to create! :-)
i'd pick him up and cuddle him now but i don't feel like getting furry
ack.. my daughter's tv show is over and she's calling me
i'd better occupy her rather than turning on another one
My beastie, a 15-pound, 15 1/2 year old, tiger with amber/golden eyes, is past her winter shed right now...
Later, Noah!
she keeps asking to go out and play in the snow but i don't feel like it.. maybe i should
my monster was 17 pounds but we barely feed him the prescription food and he's trimmed down to 15
he's 12 now
Wears 'em out, and they have a ball for about 10 minutes, Noah.
ok i guess i'll give in
maybe if i pelt her with snowballs she'll get tired of it
Our monster has lost three pounds in two years...
LOL... enjoy!
thanks! may be back later to finish the last 122...
'Bye!
my bestfriend has a *20lb* cat. Beat ya!
Wow... does she have a saddle for that critter, Ata?
pretty much!
finds a pic cos he's gorgeous*
we had a desert domestic that weighed 32lbs.
That is a true T-rex, phaeton...
he liked dog food better than cat food
my neighbor has a 18 pound cat.. his name is Angus
I would think he'd eat the mailmen... LOL
Well named, Niamh.
when he purred he sounded more like a lawn mower
I like big cats...
no, he was very friendly. He would meet you at the door when you came home
Angus is very pretty, cream colored with grey mask and long hair
we called him TC for ToughCat
Mine is more of a canine than a feline...
LOL, phae...
http://tinyurl.com/2y37tb
there :)
dinnertime now. brb
She growls, fetches, rolls over on demand, makes "big kitties" on command, and I taught her, thee months ago, to "shake paws", first the left and then the right... she is amazing.
when he got too old to jump up where his food was, he would sit on the floor and go, 'wah, wah' just like a baby
Thanks, Ata... will take a peek!@
bbs
My old gal is too arthritic to jump up anymore, too, phaeton, so I lift her.
we did too, he would nibble, then jump down and start all over again.
Awwww... we don't love them too much, do we!
we do, even tho i'm allergic to them

probably left over roast chicken and steam asparagus
Stid... that was a nightmare seeing the news... we thought about you and yours... a LOT!
we are doing fine peri... our favorite restaurant (the BBQ place that washed onto highway 8) is gone, but other than that life is fine. I worry though about the hundreds of people south of us who have been flooded out. Rotten time of year to make a new start.
that sounds like a lovely meal you're planning!
I am worried about AprilD -- she doesn't babble much any more, but I know the area she lives in to the north had some mud slides.
hm. so what are we saying if we ask for an obvious clue? pesce? salmon? halibut? (yes I just found the fi 4/8)
stid... serve it on a fi 8/84
hm. *thinking*
glad to hear that you are okay stid, also have carrot salad with my chicken
scarlet, thats 9/84
ooh! got it! :-)
I LOVE carrot salad!
but who's counting, lol
Yep... and stid's good enough to find it anyway! LOL
this carrot salad is very easy, shredded carrots, minced garlic, olive and some minced fresh parsley
Mmmmmm
is the x used in any words other than to start them?
you know, I think I have all the ingredients, too!!!!
*olive oil*
it is really good
Five words start with X
does the fi9 build off the fi4?
Hi, Scarlet
right, but is it in any other words?
And all
Yes, Fiber, and Hi!!

Hi Ata
Phaeton, I have found 199 words, and none that I know of have an X in them... HI, Ata... that was one sweet cat!!

does anyone want a 3 year old for christmas? you can return him once he reaches 4. IF he reaches 4.
I am about to dunk her in the bath shes driving me nuts. I can actually feel a ball of energy when she is near me or runs past me
hello, back!
Hi Stid
And feather.
Feather whats he doing to you?
peri, I think we'll have chicken adobo -- I have a canned sauce that is quite nice.
feather, trade you for the older teen...
Feather i am a BIG fan of bribery and stars.
just being oppositional in general
ah -- hard-headed. is that like his mum or his daddy? LOL
our daughter inlaw did that elf thing. It is really cute
i bribed him with fruit to get him upstairs
lol both
:-) thought so. I can only blame myself for my own children's tendencies... *banging head on wall*
finallly got to see it lideola, really cute
I was thinking more of a toy thing. I used to bribe my exs little boy to behave. That and i gave him noisy toys at Christmas as i loathed his mum. the noisy toys were 'mummys' house toys.
feather, nicholas is a cutie pie
muse, if you're lurking... you win!!!!
feather, I will trade your 3 year old for an 11 year old cat that pees outside the box
lol stid
lol stid
and it's your turn too feather...
peeing outside the box -- he's THINKING outside the box. rofl
ty peri
hat issues now too
o thanks on the cat though! darn chat box
Feather is he just having the good old bed time tanty?
*chat issues not hat issues
too early for bed, lady -- only suppertime back east
he just has a hard time transitioning from daycare to home
Oh so its go go go go go home now but i don't wanna bath mum?
don't we all, feather!
more like no mommy, i don't wanna play when we get home, no, a story doesn't sound nice, no, those twinkly deer aren't pretty, no, i don't want to go into the garage, no i don't want to get out of the van, etc. etc. etc. these were all the issues we had tonight, but i'm sure i left out a few.
and we aren't talking conversational nos either. whiney/grumpy/yelly nos.
Oh the fantastic NO stage of a child's developement Got to love that one. Then theres the WHY stage.I have a cert 3 in early Childhood Studies and i swear they didn't cover that one. I love kids just don't want them
feather, have you ever tried being oppositional first? for example, when I have a grumpy gus (similarities between 3 and teen are many), I'll say "Let me know when you want me to make some really awful supper and I won't feed you... and don't look so pleasant! It annoys me." usually gets them to smile a bit...
he's watching diego cartoon while i nurse nick, so peace briefly reigns
lol will try it stid!
just popping in while the older ones are on the paper route and little two are resting. feather -- some days I'd trade you an oppositional 8 yr old for the 3! ;-)
;) fruittart!
Feather from a strangers point of view Daniel seems to be doing the whole 'I don't wanna share my mum' mood. Some days you can't win. Hugs
HI Fruit
hi infernal!
nope. i gave up on winning. ty for the hugs
other days, feather, i'm just looking for the highest bidder -- $1? do I hear a $1? ;-)
*tosses a dime at fruit*
27 to go
sold!
lol, wait! weren't there any other bidders????
I remember a friend of mines toddler threw the biggest hissy fit. She curls up in a ball on the floor. He just walks up puts her an other direction says 'Meca is that way' and walks off into the other room. After a couple of minutes she gets the 'you done yet' speach
LMAO
fruit, I am in line for the 3 year old first -- you and feather can fight over my t4s
Stid the stidkids driving you menta?
ok gotta go stick dinner in the oven. brb perhaps.
i have a friend with 6 who says i can only look for it to worsen for the next few years. i tell her, "thanks! some friend!" ;-)
well at the moment, they are in school, but we are having some interesting evenings...
later feather!
Later Feather
6? 6 CHILDREN???? *faints*
hi all.i'll gladly swap an 8 yr old girl feather....fruitart your 8 yr old sounds like mine!
where were these wise friends BEFORE we had kids?
Stid they do that. I was horrid as a t???
hi lilliann
Hi LILI
hi stid and herin
I remember telling my parents i hated them. I was so horrid as a t??? i nearly caused them to separate. Mum would take my side dad wouldn't.
i think before kids i thought *mine* would be different.
24 left, bbs to finish
later peri!
bye peri
Later Peri
i was a terrible teen aswell herin, i use to have physical fights with my mam and my dad never believed my mam un
sorry, pressed wrong one....until my dad saw me being rude to my mam
I never ever hit my parents just was a whiny little snot
my mam hit me so i'd hit back
I didn't hit people, but once poked a hole through the wallboard with my my pinky finger... *holds up finger as proof* did it as an alternative to hitting my younger brother. He was impressed enough to actually back off.
I think mum slapped me once across the face. I think that was due to me telling her she wasn't my real mum
Stid owwees
my mam and i are too much alike, we use to dislike eachother.it wasn't until i was 25 that we became really good friends, now we tell eachother everything and its lovely
it didn't hurt me... LOL it was good it worked though because he was actually stronger and would have won in a tussle
My parents and me are and have always been really close.
Stid thats why girls learn to kick
Or bite (i was good at bitting)
i kneed my brother in a tender place once....he left me alone after that and never picked on me again!
oooh. ouchie *says the mom of two boys*
Good afternoon gang
i sound really horrible, don't i? believe me, i'm not like that now!
Lili thats what i am getting at. I was a biter and a kicker.
hi merk
HI Merk
hello Merk! how's life today?
had to answer the door . . . i once slapped my mom and called her a nasty name.
hi all
hey dorens!
I'm here 5 minutes before we have to leave. I'm just using the beta tonight and hope I find another internet connection later on. Where are the 9s and could I have clues please.
busy, busy, busy
shucks, gotta go make dinner! bbl
the only 9 I have is compound sea creature + what you serve it on (a dish)
later fruit!
I have a powerful urge for potato latkes... even tho I'm home alone tonight. Could I possibly be that self-indulgent?
I am past 100 words, ready for the list, I think.
the other 9's are the xa words
the only problem is, is that my daughter seems to be following in my footsteps......at the moment she likes to call me stupid and tells me to shut up alot!!!i don't mind the shut up so much its just the "stupid" does get to me!
Latkes sound lovely. I was going to make some today until I realized one of the kids has a concert tonight. So we'll do latkes tomorrow instead. Some meals deserve to be lingered over
hi dorens
what are latkes?
It's really hard when the children say things like that isn't it? One of our kids seems to be on permanent restriction...
hi lil... I don't like your daughter calling you stupid,, OR telling you to shut up. latkes are jewish potato pancakes
latkes are lovely potatoe pancakes very popular this time of year (hanukkah season)
eaten with sour cream (yum) or applesauce (also yum)
they sound lovely!
We try very hard to model polite disagreement behaviors... but sometimes I "snap" and holler back. They are usually just shocked enough to hear what I have to say after that.
Oh pfft now you make me want to go cook Welsh Picklets
dorens-- we eat them with both... AND maple syrup!
i need another 'p' so i can have frappe
i eat both too stid, but syrup is a new one for me!
i can walk away, talk nicely or shout and none of it has any effect on her!
Is she acting out for a reason? Is someone being mean to her at school?
oohh, you eat potato pancakes with maple syrup??
keep walking away lil... and maybe she could lose a privilege or two.....She ought to see the connection between bad behavior and loss of something she wants
then, *wicked grin* have you tried putting earplugs in, sitting in a comfortable chair with a book? LOL THAT works really well! They just can't believe you will ignore such outrageous behavior!
stid, you are cruel lol
she was bullied but i've sorted it out and it seems to have stopped....she's alot happier going to school now but not nice to me
lilliann -- you might "check in" with her again. I have found that (for one of mine, the other's more random) bad behavior is usually linked to some stress away from home. They bottle it up there, and bring it home.
I was the fat kid that was picked on at school. I was also a good couple inches taller than the rest of the class. I was about 150cm at 12
could i have some help with one of the xa words...either one thnx
anyone have help with the corner bottom left h word? its a tricky one!
i ignore her and she comes and stands infront of me for a confrontation...she's been grounded for i don't know how long...no telly allowed or treats, i've also told her that santa won't be coming and me and dad aren't buying her any xmas gifts until she's nicer to me, but she says "i don't care" and shut up!
xa...the bugs....opp.of s**...and not out
bottom left corner h is he 4/6: laughts
then the rest build on that
thanks phaeton!
yw
{{{{{lilliann}}}}} it's so hard to be a mom when the kids are that unhappy.
thanks stid!
is it possible that your child has simply forgotten what it is like to have a good day? Does she need a trip to the zoo or park with you -- for some one-on-one without stress?
i know stid, i just don't know what to do. i'm going into the school tomorrow so will see how she is there. the thing that got me last time was the the school had noticed the changes in her behaviour and didn't think about contacting me to see why
anyone have the 1st ph8?
Hugs Lili
sorry Chris, not yet...
it's a Jewish leader in the new testament
http://www.hintsandthings.com/ i just found this interesting site.
wow phaeton... too fi4-like!
a clue would be good phaeton
the other problem is,is that she also gets jealous of other people talking to me, either on the phone or standing next to me, she even gets jealous of her dad and will try and cause us to fight
thanks herin

My b.f is off from work as yesterday was horrid for him. He doesn't want to talk about it. He may take off tomorrow too (yes its a Saturday) and no work means no overtime but i guess its just money and i don't want him to quit
I don't think I'll finish today
there isn't a new family situation stid, me and her dad have been together all her life....i think it's because i'm disabled and haven't been able to work, she's always had me around and because i felt guilty that i couldn't do physical things with her i spent alot of time to other things, and at that time my hubby was working away but now he is home more to help me and she doesn't like it. she's great with him until i show up!

Robo, all of the XA words have the same first five letters...
They're a pretty nasty bunch, those teen trouts. Haven't you heard of trout pouts?
It comes from the teen trout's inability to do anything but look sulky.

Yes, momof5, she is. Now she's just following up with the other doctors to make sure that she's coordinating all her care needs.
Did the dr. give her any special instructions? Or, more of the same?
Thanks, Scarlet.
:-)
hi all :)
Actually, she's going to be taking fewer medications than before. She has to strictly limit her sodium intake, and monitor her weight/body for signs of fluid retention.
i kept tryign to add to it lol
Hi Lil Monkey
how many ph words are there??? (haven't checked lickety yet)
Hi, lil*monkey!
Apparently, it's the fluid retention that causes most of the discomfort and difficulty breathing.
5
OK thanx scar
pe5?
i only have 2 of the ph's dammit
:-)
She's always had so many meds, some can have a reaction with the glycerine, etc. A friend's mom started 'seeing things' when she went through this.

They just came out of the oven. But, those five kids are working fast!
for once, cookies don't sound good...worked the bake sale at band concerts two nights in a row and the smell of sugar was overwhelming.
LOL... I make a full recipe and my husband can word as fast as your kids, mom!
I would imagine so Angel
I know what you mean! If only I could have more non-sugar moments.
I hated to travel to Hershey, Pennsylvania for the same reason, angel... chocolate until I wanted to oopsie!!
lol -- exactly!
:-)
I've learned a trick with my hubby. Make the cookies bite size. (He eats 5 cookies either way, better they start small so he doesn't end up big!)
I have done the same thing, mom... and, have saved a goodly portion of dough to make giant cookies, which he will not touch until the baby ones are gone... it's a head game...
the worst part was, it's tradition to go for ice cream after a band concert. I took the kids, but for once was not even tempted!
hi all
Hi Angelina
I think he just loves to see 10-inch cookies with his name on them... LOL. Hi, angelina!
hi angelina!
hi ang
I've run out of hiding places. He's on to me and hunts all over the kitchen for hidden goodies. I also just bake half batch (which is only 2 dozen). That doesn't last long with 7 people.
hi mom, angel, scarlet and sq
Hi angelinaxox
I figure if I am doing the work, I may as well do the whole five dozen!
Momof5, I ran out of hiding places in the kitchen also, so I hid them in the living room under the sofa. THey never look there. lol
Just put them near the vacuum cleaner...
As if this wasn't enough sugar...on Sunday little Angel made me TWO birthday cakes -- one with coconut/pecan frosting (for me, in theory) and one with chocolate frosting, for everyone else!
momo, if he's like most men, he won't find them IF you hide them with the cleaning supplies :)
LOL, MOm... good one!
pe 5.12 ?
Exactly, lil...
haha scarlet ! great minds think alike
lol Lil Monkey
I don't think there's a place in the house other than our bedroom that I could hide things without at least one person finding them.
In my house, it would be next to the supply of toilet paper...I seem to be the only one who knows where it is...
Arg, angel1313

That is a rhetorical question, right, mom?
Definitely, Scarlet.

ty angel!
lol momof
but, *sputter* momof5... doesn't it just "appear" out of nowhere? LOL

It will be nice for you to be home with everyone...I'm not sure what brother's plans are, yet. It usually depends on how T is doing.

stidkid #2 is so jealous that you have wild parrots who just eat from your hands!!!!
thanks feather - they were very friendly! came straight to us.
I don't quite understand why the 'mood swings' have continued for so many years. You would think they would do something different by now.
ewis
Such an amazing attitude, Lickety... you and mrp should go on tour telling people how to overcome adversity, and how to deal with life on life's terms... and overcome it all through love and laughter and family...
feather - hows the young one?
I love how good mrp looks in the video, too!
I guess it's taken time to diagnose as something more than *just* depression...
Oh scarlet - thank you! we have our moments of stress - don't you worry about that ;-)

momof5, i believe it's borderline personality disorder, but that's second-hand via mom, so don't hold me to it.

ep+laugh
ep... e + sounds like f + oooh *ah
feather, I once tried to get my son to eat a tomato by saying it was "tasty". The next time he ate something he didn't like, he said it was "tasty" (the way you might say naassty.

Why did it take so long to diagnose? She's been in therapy for, what, 3 years?
So of course, she stomped hard just where he pointed, and went right through, and into the river.

The distraught husband ran excitedly upstream, calling his wife's name, to be stopped by an old man who asked why he was going in the opposite direction of the water flow.

I observed some behavior while staying with them in Oct. that would made me be concerned (when I thought it was depression). The constant put downs, derrogatory remarks, etc. You need a thick skin to live in that house. I only saw 2 people not participate: T and eldest daughter.
Thanks, everyone. Take care. *poof*

that's what you have to put into the pot in order to participate in a game of poker (card game, with betting)
it's an + 2 letters. people say "an** up" in many contexts :)
tyger what you put in the center? i think that is further down. maybe i am wrong...will ask son of mine
hello
yes, mkg, it's the money (or peanuts, or whatever you're betting) you put on the table
yup my son says it is the word i already have further down..........unless spelled different.
hey, harp
hi, harp!
hi harp
yes tyger that is exactly what i am saying. i have that one.
bottomost an4 is 'against'; different vowel on end for poker play.
now, just change the last vowel :)
all 3 an4 start with small insect
oh tyger super. got all the an words now. ty
the insect nobody wants at a picnic :D

2nd ar6 has different last 2 letters
yes, mkg. the 9s are plurals
got one plural from the 8. now two more. do i just change last two letters?
Ouch! Just came in here to switch pc off, after spending 5 hours straight writing at kitchen table. Caught left thumb on something most inconsequentiallyy and now it's bleeding like hell. It'll settle down in a moment, mehopes.
no, last 3
next vowel in the progression
hey, jac
owwww ((((jac))))

Hi,m tyger. Thumb's clotted now.

oh, good, jac.

yw
hi saddy
hi jac!
now see, mkg. we knew you could do it! :)
with 93 to go it is hopeless tonight but hey, i got other stuff done tonight.
the first ar is funny. but cant get rest so clues most welcome.
you can't do it all at once. most people don't manage to finish, as far as I can tell
hahah... i hace 151 words to go... that gives me about half a minute per word....
got two more sorry.
next 2 are what you do in the morning, plus past tense
i played for more than a year before i finished a grid.
m so not completing
didn't finish regularly until i stared working nights.
ty tyger got the morning stuff.
ar8?
Other Half told me has was beeling to death earlier... he'd been to the dentist and had to have 2 teeath removed. One on bottom right and one on top right. The numbing injections had been put in both places (something or our dentist, who avoided pulling te5/12 at any price anyway avoided like the plague. When you get that much deadening stuff top and bottom of one side of your jaw it makes you feel like you cannot breathe.
thx, solar, for helping encourage
owwwww, poor guy
hi jac
give him hugs from here
the numbing does leave on feeling funny, jac
Hi, harp.
ar8 is Latin plural of ar7, Nat
tyger - can'tt give hugs, they hurt him right now.
ar8 Mr. Onassis short name + United *****s
ar + me + what the US is composed of
i had novocane yesterday and drank ice cream milk shakes and smoothies ALL DAY!
I'll save them for him.:)
Hi Everyone. Here is a cute video from this morning : http://tinyurl.com/2cybfc
virtual hugs, then :)
hey, Lickety
thanks mymuse
sounds like fun, harp!
hi lickety
yow, harp!
hi, lickety
well it tasted good anyway!
hey tyger, dcseain, mymuse
I'll bet! :D
sorry, I messed up on the ar8 clue. I was looking at the 7
I didn't mean to mess you up, Nat
I finished hours ao if anyone wants clues.
Lickety - did you sell the house yet?
you can help make up for my mistakes, jac
ty for the ar 8 clue. got it. but missing the 7 and 6 before it.
Not that I think you 'should' be selling the house anyway! That insurance company stinks!
I might've done the same thing, harp
Jacula - we have a buyer, accepted an offer, and signed. Just have to wait for cooling off period to end next thursday and get the 10% deposit.
drop last cross, drop vowel respectively, mkg
the ar6/7 - there is an old Disney movie, the Ar***ocats
put that together with DC's clue
Good luck with that then, Lickety.
insurance companies don't care about what should be, jac :(
have you guys found another house, Lickety?
well, good news then lickety!! I'm sure those open houses were exhausting.
Nat, have those clues worked, or do you need more?
sorry tyger, popped out for a minute. I've got all the ar words now, thanks.
thanks jac. Sad to go, but exciting too - and means we can relax over christmas. Haven't got anywhere to go yet - have to try and organise it so we move 14th jan
we have one more open house tomorrow - in case the buyers fall through (unlikely)
has the housing market disaster here affected your housing market, Lickety?
you will be looking before the holidays, though, lickety, no?
yw, Nat
must sign off now, thanks everyone
nite, Nat
the housing market is allowing me to buy next year :D I was right about the correction, but no one listened.
g'night, natasha
tyger - we did it just right - after 2 years of a null - then it went up a bit - so all good
tyger - I know that! My house is unsaleable because it is uninsureable as from about 6 or 7 years ago when I made 4 house flood claims. Local water authority has, since then, not only flood-prrofed both my house and next-door, but also carried out major sewage and flood water pipeworks in the roads on this estate. It was cheaper than digging up mine and next-door's gardens and putting in the huge drainage tanks needed and then reinstating everything.
DC, what makes me maddest is that the banks are responsible, pressing the assessors to inflate home values
oh jacula - that's aweful!
well, in fairness, people bought anyway, though i fundamentally agree, tyger
they deserve to be hurt worse than they are, though the problem is that we all suffer for their SNAFUs
people gotta have a place to stay, DC.
ok help people... with the first three and the 5th HA
here, jac, the states off insurance of last resort for flood coverage. does the Government offer such there?
|Maybe I should ask my local water authority to insure my house and give any prospective buyers an assurance that theere will be no more house floods?
the other problem is the greedy people who bought to "flip"
5th ha: plural of a kind of laugh
1st 2 ha4s are Scots
often a kind of sarcastic laugh, solar
Not yet, dsc, but it will come in time.
3rd, sort of like 0.5 + he 'be'
i guess what with the hurricanes and what, it happened here sooner.
got the 5th
hi all!
still need the first 3
good. wasn't sure. it's an americanism
hael
oops!
oops
:)
almost, saddy!
1st 2 ha words have a diphthong in the middle, solar
must remember to buy baking powder on the way home. I need to bake for Saturday, and want to do some of it tomorrow.
same one (Latin fem plural)
dip my WHAT!!!!!
diphthong is the word for 2 vowels in a row :)
LOL
diphthong - a pair of vowels pronounced as one.
ROFL
hehehe.. thats a naughty sounding word though lol
sh7-32 clue please
maybe so, in (Urdu?). but not here
it's pronounced as DIF-thong
crpw, yiddish village, plus a vowel toward the end
sh7/32: which one, CRPW???
In one way I wish my Other Half, Paul69 knew what we are going throughre floods and thread of flooding. Last time the waters rose he was at work, as he should be during the day... but m kids and my Mum were trapped in the house after I went out before the flood waters rose too high. They saw how I frantically ripped drain covers here and there off and up, swept the waters away with a broom and a shovel. Got soaked to the skin in only a tee-shirt and jeans....
hi all
thank you dsceain
hey :)
both sh7 actually
lol... no not in urdu at all... in english
i havce been strugglign with that one all day
the other one is an alternate spelling for the Arabic version of the Evil One
I am stuck also on the ha5/18 and the last sh7/32...tht is all I have to go...two words
Unless someone has experienced flooding of the home, you can't really explain it. But, I don't want O'Half to experience it... well, not in our home!
i didnt read it as f at first
how tedious, Jac!
i figured, saddy :)
damage in the structure from it, Jac?
ha5/18 rhymes with that Scottish specialty dish - the one with 2 Gs in the middle
2 friends were flooded in the last 2 years. Such work cleaning up.
se6?
funny-spelled up house of Congress, harp
ha5/18 sounds like ½ + 3rd person PT of "be"
Not merelyu 'tedious' if it happens again, dcs. Life shattering. I no longer have any flood insurance. If I get flooded again I've lost everything in th house.
think phonetically
sennat
oops
well it was wrong anyway i see
but i got it, thanks!
almost, harp!
Change ladst vowel, Harp! LOL
se6 sounds like the upper house of Congress, but double cons in middle. almost got it harp
oh, i'd not thought of that aspect jac, how horrible!
got it yay
yay, solar
will complaining to your local council or MP do any good?
from a regulatory standpoint, that is.
you can't be only one with that issue. Especially after this year.
I'd complain, vociferously, even if I knew it would do no good
es6?
just for the relief of my feelings :)
finaly got the ha 5/18..thx..now just one, the last sh7/32
I found much amusement here from observing the chaatlog when people came in and found there were 5 'x' words. Once you'd worked out the root word they really werent that hard to find.
never mind, got it
pbr, yiddish village, with an extra vowel toward the end.
es6 - "death tax" for those who haven't got it yet
i agree about the X words, jac
Hrp's done a Peri, dcs. No ned to clue! LOL
go, pbr!
heh :)
Glad it wasn't just me re the 'x' words, dcs.
the first sh7?
alt Arabic spelling of Evil One
for you, harp
Hindu word for an evil spirit or a bad friend, Harp.
or fallen angel
yay!! Im going home day after tomorrow.... hehehhe sorry if that was a bit out of nowhere... just got my tickets :)
Starts with a female + a personal pronoun vowel & ends what a sun-kiised skin.
yay, solar
you're abroad at present?
Yay for you, solar.
school hols? :)
lol no.... i got married Jan this year and moved to another city
dcseain .. my yiddish is very poor, still trying to get the word
oh. so gonna see your family
So, what city are you moving to, Saddysolar?
thanks
hahahah no school ended for me a long time ago. I work for marketing at a bank now
2nd sh7: sh + **enager + cross + Spanish masc pronoun
in 6/7?
well, I didn't know :)
well, now i live in Karachi with ,y husband.... im going back to Islamabad for my sisters wedding day after tomorrow.... i'll be back after christmas
I'm glad you speak English! It's very ard for girls who don't and then go into English-speaking countries...
last sh7?
in7 is compound word - in + not a nation, but a subdivision of it
DR, I just clued that about 6 down
in6, harp = what the SkY engineer does when he puts your system in place.
Pakistani weddings are like a family and friends festival... last for a couple of weeks
MS is a ***** in the US
ok ty Tyger- just signed on.
yw, DR
in7 = in + US partition of parts.
got the in7 but i still don't have the 6
umm... in Pakistan only uneducated people dont speak english. English is a part of the curriculum at schools
the in6 is no relation to it
ty tyger-
in6: putting something in place, like plumbing (minus last repeat letter)
yw, DR
It took my young friend from India's imported wife 4 years to finally stop looking like a whipped horse every time someone spoke to her and she learned the language.
got it, thanks
yw
got it--doing fireworks
pakistan, like india, basically has English in common language-wise internally , no?
wasn't sure how that clue would work
however there is a large part of our population that doesnt have access to formal education... so yeah i can understand what you mean
yay, pbr
Not so commonly as we might hope, dcs.
from India, it depends on which st5 they're from. some of them have good education for most
yeah. its also the language used in all professional institutions
like all our official communication is in English
But, from the pooer areas of India and Pakistan... that's not the language.
I had Pakistani neighbors for a year, when I was working on my last job at a uni, brother & sister - sweet kids
*poorer
jac is SO right
saddy -- how many languages are spoken in Pakistan? (Hi all)
and have Indian friends
hey, jilli!
true tyger. People from the West don't speak as well as people from the South of India, from my POV.
have to get used to accents, of course :)
well you see, education is still something that is not common in the rural areas.... so yeah if youre from a backward area you wouldnt have access to good schools.... but you wont have any trouble communicating in english in the urban areas
yeah, i grew up next door to a Korean family, and therefore understand thicker Korean accents than most.
but I think that population pressures there make people more adaptable ("root hog or die" syndrome - no offense, solar; it's an adage) than westerners are
i worked with a man from Pakistan who spoke only Pashto. Here, he learned Spanish, then English.
a lot jillibus. Theres Urdu, the national language. Then the educated part of pakiland speaks english. Then theres punjabi, pushto, sindhi, saraiki and a lot of different dialects for all the above languages :)
wow, what a route, linguistically, DC
I ask again, saddy -- how many languages are spoken in Pakistan?
well, he worked in the kitchen, and the kithen, like the production bakery, spoke Spanish. So, he learned what he was around most.
when there is difficult terrain, languages fracture very readily into dialects
may be a hard question to answer, jilli :)
sorry jillibus. Theres Urdu, the national language. Then the educated part of pakiland speaks english. Then theres punjabi, pushto, sindhi, saraiki and a lot of different dialects for all the above languages :)
and that part of the world is very mountainous
Sorry -- you did respond. I understand there are many more (?) spoken in India so English became the lingua franca
And that, Jac concludes, is why Babble is an international puzzle!
yup, jac :)
lol
well, jilli, India is a bit larger :P
I think you're forgetting that the main reason is colonialism
one word to go the 1st sh7, just didnt get the clue earlier, clue again please
well, yes, tyger
crpw - the most famous fallen angel, variant of arabic spelling
The British Empire/colonianism is the main reason, tyger.
a bunch of the main languages of India are NEARLY mutually comprehensible
colonialism left a lot of benefits and I don't want to get into that
du is a language that "evolved" from hindi , persian, arabic and *surprise surprise* English!!! when the british ruled the subcontinent. the army had peopel from all over so it was something that everyone contributed to
I'd intended to do a PhD in sociolinguistics, in India, so I'm a bit better read on the subject than most
URDU is a language that "evolved" from hindi , persian, arabic and *surprise surprise* English!!! when the british ruled the subcontinent. the army had peopel from all over so it was something that everyone contributed to
well, not "in" India, but doing my research there
China has many dialects and there's atale about the two guys from different provinces who couldn't understand each other's Chinese so spoke in English.
so the English of India, Pakistan & Bangladesh has many "loan" words not in other versions of English
I don't think it's a tale, jilli. same thing happens with Arabic speakers from geographically distant places
And thank god for all of that, mostly, as say all of my friends, even those whose ancestors wer once slaves. (Thought I do have to add that the slave plantation master who was one of my ancestors was a good guy. Guess what? When he go a slave pregnant, he allowed her to use his surname, ubut he did also pay for the child for life and check on child's progress in life.
I've known a few
well urdu and hindi are almost the same, except for some words here and there.... even though its written differently..
a friend who grew up 500K souof of Chennai said he could understand 1 village away, but not the ones on the other side of those, even though the all technically spoke Tamil. They used English therefore.
tyger, one of the books I'm reading is called "Sociolinguistic Theory" and my grandfather was something of a pioneer in the field
local languages often drift too much for mutual comprehensibility - in the hinterlands
So, she had a name and so did the child.
in the cities, things are different
Jilli - I'm with you on this one.
who is the author, jilli?
brb
wow, I just noticed the time. I'm gonna regret not getting my nap tonite - but enjoying talking :)
J.K. Chambers, tyger
jac, the Carroll family in Maryland acknowledges both the european-descended and the african-descended members, at least for the last few generations; i'm guessing longer singe they do today.
Not every white man was bad and not every black man or woman was stupid.
Hmmm. when published? (don't go look for exact date, if a problem, but a guesstimate?)
indeed so, jac!
Same thing applies now.
But, as for the stupid? Re white people? eRM... BUSH, BLAIR... MUBLE, MUMBLE.
LOL Sing it, Sister!
LOL, jac
Brown??
I know he's a nerd
I read Economist :)
he's pulled some stupid stunts since taking over
DCS - My best friend here n UK was once in love with a guy called Rob Carrol. He lived in the concil estate.
He was good-loking, put short and poor.
tyger, first published 1995. This is the second edition, published 2003, reprinted 2003. 2004. Subtitle is "Linguistic Variation and its Social Significance".
aha! thx, jilli. I didn't recognize the name, so figured it must be fairly new, or quite old :)
The Carrolls have a county and 2 cities in Maryland named for them. And they owned Jenkins Hill, on which the US Capitol was built.
anymore clue requests?
I'm about to bail, if not
John Carroll signed the Declation of Independence for Maryland, also. It's his descendents of which i speak.
Rob Carroll died 2 years' ago but I guess he'd have loved to know about his history, haad he the mental capacity to check it out.
is the fi9 a compound word?
yes harp, want clue?
yes, harp - 2 words, smushed
bfn tyger
fi9 = food from the sea and what you eat it on.
previous fi + a word for a dish you put your meal on
thanks

y.w, harp.
bubye

lol, I wish, only started it 20 mins ago, got 124 to go
lots of weird x words on this one
I have 150 left -- too pooped to party -- very busy and tiring day
wouldn't even know where to start after the x
do you use lickety's list?
what's the verdict on this grid overall?
lol sort of
this one was tougher for me than usual
that makes me feel better, dart -- thanks!
Saddy - I should know that if my friends didn't keep whispering to tell me the words, like I wasn't allowed to know them.
ok, so 5 x words all with a after them, yeah fine, like now I know (not) lol
x + picinict pest is the start of all of the x words.
if you cant figure them out...and cant "monkey" them...go to lickety's word list....especially for the big words.....7 letters and bigger
you b'long pretty lady, ossie, if that's you
*picnic
ty jilli, that is I
1st XA is XA6 gum
monkey dart?
The x words reaal aren't that difficult...
monkey-typing -- hot or miss
type random letters until you get it, ossie
hit or miss, that is (said I was tired!)
Hot or miss? I like it! LOL, jilli.
yeah yeah, jac - lol!
thhe 4 and 5 letter ones you can monkey....look at the value ofthe word in lick. list....you know the first two leeters....if you have any words around them,....you can sometimes figure them out by looking at what they are between alphabetically....and the point values of the squares next to the letters you already know
hi all, where do you get the daily icons

um, jac...caps lock?
jilleroo -- come visit. We'll buy a gallon (I have friends who own a Baskin Robbins)
Harp- you and my Other Half are as one tonight.
actually, one of the winning flavors at Baitcon this year was Tomato Ice Cream. Tasted like creamy, fresh tomato
Yes, caps lock prob.
we based it on a recipe for grape ice cream, but the tomato needed more sugar to taste right.
hi stiddy. It's Ben & Jerry's I crave :)
hmm interesting, sounds yuck but tomatoes are sweet so it could work
tomatoes are apparently lovely in a number of things that we don't normally think of. I don't eat them a lot, but I know some varieties are very sweet.
okay, I need to go make a phonecall. back as soon as I can
I am a V8 addict
ossie...sounds like your uncle john got voted out?
I can imagine sun-dried toms in icecream
My red and green tomato chutnies are to die for!
V8 is a godsend - makes it easy for me to get enough sodium in a day. :)
cu soon, stid
lol darty, yes unfortunately, I can no longer say my uncle john in canberra
lol
the sun-dried only work well in ice cream if you cook them in the custard, then mince them.
If you are a chutney type person, that is,,, whgich ny other half is not.
there is a low-sodium V8 now *polishing halo*
tomato chutney is a joy!
hmm again interesting take on that dc lol
yes there is low-sodium, but the high-sodium is what i need.
Thank you, dcs.
ossie...you ever see fire in here....i see he is crawling up the list
need or want, dc?
nope, haven't seen him
he sent me an email saying he asked iWin if he could buy the rights for Tangle
need, jilli. my body does not keep sodium in it. I eat 500-800% USRDA of sodium, yet my fasting bloodwork shows minimal sodium levels.
you may win the crown yet, jilli. We will see! LOL
peeing it all out dc?
he is at 747 on the "who's hot list"...in the rankings section
fresh tomato chutney with fresh papadum is a fav snack of mine. I need to learn to make the chutney myself.
oh, lucky you, dc! Salt makes things taste so good! But it's verboten for many of us!
747?
sweating and urinating, yes ossie.
crown, jac??? what for???
top ranking is 1030
Celtic Sea Salt is a bonus for bodies!
dad's family has lived for 6 generations in a place with natural salt in the ground and the water - the river is called Licking for the salt licks that occur allong it. I think that's why.
dart, sorry sweets, what are you telling me?
I may or may not post the recipes for redd and green tomato chutney on my BabAnon website. I'll consoder it ... later.
right click on the rankings section...its quicker than left clicking so you dont have to reload this page....look at the whos hot list....747 firemanrfdny

oh my and I thought you were only 10 years old stid!
I would like to have a small grid tomorrow, an easy one, one that I can do without the list...
still don't think it was Linnaeus -- I meant the guy who thought if you cut off the tails of animals for several generations eventually they would be born without tails.
yeah, we drink young here... :-)
