my husband and I are five days into the fourteen days of phase 1 of South Beach Diet. We were doing great with the diet last year, but it was impossible to maintain while my daughter and her family were with us, because we could not keep cooking two sets of meals daily.
I don't know anything about that diet, but good for you!
it is heart healthy, with low carbs, no sugar (sweetner must be something like Sweet and Low or such), low fat. My husband lost 30 pounds, and I lost about 20 or 25.

phase one is the most restrictive (no sugar, no caffeine, no bread, potatoes or carrot, etc, for the two weeks.) the point is to flush toxins out of the system. When I stopped using sugar, my feet stopped swelling. I think sugar is white poison.
I think sweeteners are even worse, but that is my personal pov. If it works for you and you feel good doing it, it is great :)
phase two is maintenance level, and lasts as long as you want to keep losing weight. phase three is you can eat anything you like, as long as you maintain your weight. if you begin gaining, you go back to phase 1 for a week or two.

as far as I know, when taken with moderation, artificial sweeteners will not hurt. The bad things I read implicated big doses of the stuff.
it is not just a diet. it's a complete lifestyle change. you eat lots of vegetables, some fruits, lean beef in limited amounts, skinless poultry, fish, limited dairy in phase 1, with low fat dairy thereafter.
I've never felt better in my life.
