My father in law doesn't even do computers at all, so I'm afraid we deprived him pretty badly.
My father learned to send/receive email a few years ago. If HE can learn, anyone can!! (He'll be 80 this year.)
On the other hand, he's of the generation that doesn't expect to have all this technology at every moment anyway, so he didn't really know what he was missing.
My father in law is 83, I think, and when we gave him a CD player we had to tape a card over the front so that the only controls that showed were "Play" and "Stop." ANything else was too confusing!
My dad did try to play a DVD in his CD player.
That's not unreasonable!
They look just the same, anyway.
Last Christmas, I knew my son was sending a DVD from Hawaii, so we had to bring a DVD player with us so he could see it.
That's awesome that he got to watch his great grandson.
And the kids will send pictures every now and then by mail. My mom and dad really appreciate that.
And we all thought there was another one on the way this fall, but found out otherwise this week. The doctor called it a 'chemical pregnancy'. Daughter-in-law was shocked, cuz she still felt pregnant.

Monkey, when I had my hand fracture last year, I didalmost 6 months of hand therapy with a PT, she really made an enormous difference for me. I was so distressed, and she just kept working with my hand, and now it is I'd say 92% which is unexpected...

PK, you probably see a lot of what the nurses do,withthe volunteering, Nursing is a lot of time management and sort of thinking carefully, "when I do this to patient X, what might happen that i should think about before I do it..." You can do it, and you may be surprised at how easy and natural some of it is.
yes, we're all happy. he will be teaching half time at the college and half time at the med school, and it's a tenure track position (increasingly rare these days for young uns)

I bet. A friend of ours was just moved into nursing home by kids; fortunately she was ready and loves it.. but that has to be so very tough

I don't think my grandmother understood why she was moved, but I am told by my mother that she is improving since she was put there (she had been at home with a full-time caregiver since a stroke). The social interactions are helping a lot.
