I love dogs too, ruru. Grew up with 2 of them in succession... both Golden Labradors. Our first one was so pale she was almost white. The second one was more golden but still pale.

mrs ru and I work with Guide Dogs for the bBlind.. they breed wonderful labradors
When I was growing up (up to the age of 5 then we rehoused the dogs as we moved states) we had a Lassie dog and an Irish Setter. The setter was so stupid

There can only be a virus affecting your computer if you A. open an attachment you're uncertain of or B. click a link you're uncertain of. Some phishing emails contain links that are not what they appear to be... the text will appear to be a legitimate link, but if you move your cursor over it and read the actual URL in the location bar below, you'll see that it's not the same link you're seeing in the email... never, ever click those and you'll be fine.
And always alert the person the email came from... sometimes and usually in the case of a virus attachment or link, the sender wasn't the person whose account that email comes from. It's usually a hacker who accessed their account and is now sending the virus to all of that person's contacts.

Well it is the law that states how you breed animals too. SO at the moment puppy farmers can legally feed the animals bread and water as that is food right.
It's sad that people should need laws in place in order to ensure they take care of their companion animals... if they need laws to force them to, they probably shouldn't have the animals in the first place, I'm thinking.

We have the ASPCA (state) and then SPCA (national) and then the Humane Society and they are usually behind legislation like that.

About 7 yrs ago I had a couple who were animal hoarder living next to me. They had cats outdoors and in. It was AWFUL.
here, the SPCA and the Humane Society run most of our animal shelters, as well as lobby for laws to protect animials.
Those people I feel sorry for as they really want to do what is right but they can't understand why that is wrong.
When they eventually abandoned/fled the property, they took all the indoor cats loaded them in a box and dropped them at a vet’s office late at night and ran (I found out from another neighbor after the fact). The outdoors cats I ended up taking care of for several years.
Yep, they are sub-human. Nobody who cares about animals would breed any while there are any, never mind so many [even young, healthy ones] being put to death daily in shelters because there aren't enough people who want to give them homes.

I was able to TNR five of them. I think there were 12 in the entire colony. The last died about a year ago.
At my friend old work there is a horde of feral cats that the house used to take care of them.
Feral cats are very difficult to work with, but if you can establish a TNR (trap, neuter & release), which is a long term program, it eventually works.
here there are good people who try to spay/neuter feral colonies and feed them till they die out - the breeding is the biggest problem
There's no such thing as "responsible breeding" though. Not when there are so many dogs and cats dying in shelters daily... each one just as valuable and lovable as those being bred and sold for money. They are all living beings. If you care about dogs, cats, etc. you just don't add to that problem, period... for every dog or cat bred and sold, more than one in a shelter has to die. That's just a fact. The one that would have had a home otherwise and the one that animal's adoption would've created room for in that shelter... giving them a chance to be adopted.
Boat I don't say this lightly but honestly it would have been better to trap them all and PTS them as they are such a huge problem with killing wildlife

Neil A responsible breeder only breeds pure breeds and will always have a return policy and is very very good in training and such. We need these people to continue breeding for specific duties.
Boat here we have a lot of areas with very sensative wild life. I do think a TNR would be appropriate in this area though

Yes, we had two adopted labs.
My friend had a rottie. He was badly bred and a rescue he died at the age of four. She also rescued a French Mastiff he has issues.
No, of course not. But ours were adopted... there are rescue groups you can get any kind of dog from. I didn't choose them. I was a kid... my dad got them and yes, he happens to like labs.
She rescued a pure breed german shepard that was mad as a hatter and had to go to a properly trained person. After all this she still rescues and rehouses. But her latest addition is from a proper litter as she is over spending thousands of dollars
Sorry, but we've had this debate and preaching about animal issues before and it's been done to death and caused a lot of problems. Let's just agree to disagree before I take offence at being told that I don't care about dogs just because I didn't adopt one.

Both of our dogs were rescues, and my current cat was abandoned by the most recent occupants of the slum property next to me. They left and left her too. So she came to live with me :)

The only reason we ended up with our first dog is because some ass-shat abandoned her and her brother in the alley behind my dad's house. The two of them snuck in the back yard during the night and the next morning I found them. We kept her and gave away the brother. Our other dog was our neighbor’s we took in he moved back home to Ireland. So neither were adopted. But both were "rescued".
I think they can copy each other... even other animals sometimes. This was hard for me to believe at first, but family friends of ours tried telling us their cat had started barking along with their dog at the window when the mailman arrived, haha! I was like... no way! You're pulling our legs?
See Pandora the white cat is deaf and I delight in hearing her meow like a normal cat. Lucius the black one thinks he is a dog and howls when the neighbours dog starts
But sure enough, that cat does make a kind of "barking" sound when their dog starts up. He's grown up with the dog since he was about 5 weeks old... he was a kitten they found outside.

I kind of think a dog was probably on the other side of that wall and the cat happened to be making mewing sounds but the dog's barking overpowered it or something. Hard to believe the cat really barked that loudly and clearly! Our friends' cat makes very quiet, muffled sounds... seems like he's trying to emulate barking though!

Yes Lucius the black kitty thinks he is a dog. He will sit beside you on the bean bag, yowl when other dogs yowl, play's fetch and gets bitterly disappointed when you go out and he waits at the door for his master

you read about the hawk in my house, some time ago, right? The same one came back, trying to pick a bird off the feeder, I guess, and landed on the window box so I could really get a good look through the glass.

hursh, yes I agree. The only thing is, with complex ptsd it is developed in one's childhood. So it is a mechanism that is based on being powerless to change your situation in a healthier way. Once you are grown, you should be able to handle things better, but you aren't so you have to learn.

we have a plant here called bishop's weed (aegopodium) that is VERY invasive - it's starting to take over all my gardens and if we can't control it there will be nothing left
do you know loosestrife? It grows wild in the mountains and is very beautiful, magenta tall composite flowers. After it was planted, it migrated to the fishpond and is very happy there with the water lilies and reeds
it is considered invasive in all the flower books but I love it
I don't know if I know it. It is always so tough to think what the dutch name might be :)
here purple loosetrife runs rampant and we try to get rid of it if it invades the back yard

the only way to get rid of the aegopodium is to dig up ALL of it, including all the roots - it can resprout from the tiniest bit of root

I used to have a really nice stand of purple coneflowers (echinacea), which are native here and quite beautiful, and also fairly aggressive, but the aegopodium is starting to choke them out

up here we now have a dr shortage.we are lucky in that we have had the same family dr for 20 years as many do not,but when we book an appt it can be as much as a month away so often the walk in clinic is the only alternative.hell by the time the dr appt rolls around you are either well,or have been to the clinic or are dead :/

well,,we can start with 3 jumbo brown eggs whipped to a froth with a fork,then we add some bits of smoked ham ,some diced mushrooms,slide that into a hot buttered panthen when it is almost done we can fold shome 5 year old quebec apple wood smoked cheddar into it,but today instead of bacon we can add a nice farmers breakfast sausage that has been cured with a kiss of maple.then a few crunchy toasted english muffies with butter and gooseberry jam

but as long as he sticks to unprocessed meats, veggies, things like potatoes and corn, he is fine

wife and i find that processed meats are really causing us stomach issues now,so we steer clear now as well
we ate out at Whole Foods a couple of weeks ago (cheaper than a restaurant), and he found a gluten free chocolate tart (like a little pie, maybe 8 cm in diamater) - it was $5!!

After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had him arrested on 24 counts of ARSON! With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case used against him, the lawyer was convicted of intentionally burning his insured property and was sentenced to 24 months in jail and a $24,000.00 fine.

well last week they found that there was a 4 inch mistake that set it back another week and yesterday i found my heating system didn't work because they forgot to cap the pipes when they cut off the house. . .

Actually, it's more paperwork than testing. I have to do two students lists,request for funding of students who have been in ESL for 3+ years,send home parent letters, identify those mis-identified as ESL & submit paperwork and the list goes on and on. I'm so looking forward to seeing students next week. Paperwork is so boring and tedious.Anway, sorry to ramble on & on
Actually, I like learning about what is necessary -- at some time in my teaching life I am sure I will need to work with ESL students, so learning about what the ESL teacher does is good for me.

Our first was one my dad's parents got him from a shelter when he still lived at home... she was older when he married mom and we lost her when I was a young kid. Then our 2nd dog [same breed - labrador] was one some neighbors of ours had and due to illness/disabilitly couldn't keep anymore. They were gonig to surrender him to a shelter or rescue group if a home couldn't be found and we loved him... so we got him.

earlier treatment costs less (a big concern here), and has more positive outcomes with less invasive procedures, and often w/out hospital, which are good anywhere.
It depends on what your plans are. For easy transport you could get the size in the 8 x 4 squares and then just tape the back so they stick together and make sure you have over hang for puzzle pieces

Grem you could do that with felted boards. Spray on glue is really easy to adhere the felt to the boards. I have no idea what the USA equvilant of Ply is sorry

That's a good idea though, gremlinn. Making a puzzle table... if you do a lot of jigsaw puzzles that large, it will sure get a lot of use and be worthwhile.
I don't do them that often - I did have a 10k once many years ago, but I never finished.
My other random thought is that Ikea have long pieces in the ASIS section sometimes
