not red icon boxes -- I'm getting red "word cannot be entered" boxes
I didn't say icon boxes... whatever those are?

Yeah, that. I've seen those before.
I did get one of those but it accepted the word?

yeah, I slept well. Am a bit sad just now, but otherwise relatively ok.
{{_sprite}} for sadness, but not prying unless you want to talk about it
was just pointed to Haz's profile. That sickens me. I miss her and hate it when people are flaring a person.
and thanks for the hug :)
anyway, I managed to find real good local news for today's icon theme, so that is a plus :)
haven't seen haz in a long time. What happened?
I'll mail you, guess that is better than repeating in chat

appointment is this afternoon, ruru, and don't know how much news I will have right away. I'll put what I know in my profile when I get home.
great.. I'll check there.. best of luck.. I am hoping for good news for you
thx, I really do appreciate it!!
you have someone going with you?
my son has an appointment with orthpedics an hour after my appointment; not sure if my partner will come or not (timing is tight as we have to leave right after my son's class gets out)
good you'll need someone to hug when you get good news :)
there you go :-)
although I am not expecting anything definitive at this point; it will probably just be what test to do next
they'll have to tell you something.
Well, here are the possible options (I think) - wait and look at it again in a while (I am not expecting this one); do a blood test; do a biopsy; do both; remove the whole thing.
But we shall see.
lots of options.. are good
Hello...
Hi, Jellen!
Will be thinking about you this afternoon, sue!
thanks! It is really nice to have so many friends...
nbt
yay!
is it just me, or is this a stinky grid?
I don't know yet...
didn't have much trouble getting nbt and nbs, but now am having a heck of a time getting half way!
where's Haz when you need her these days.. I miss her great clues.
well, ok, I am JUST half way but still pretty stuck.
Yay for halfway!
good luck sue..
Howdy, neighbors. Has anyone heard from Mr. P lately? Just wondering how the family situation is coming along.
Hi Judi
I haven't heard anything, Judi.
She's been on Facebook a little - I think she is busy refereeing
and hi, Judi!
Ah. Trust she has received some Babble funds by now?
Yes, that she has...
I hope she received mine
I hope so too, ruru.
Any news as to Lickety's progress?
I thought I understood that Lickety was home...
That would be news to me, Jellen. :-)
I've seen we've had "the List" on a regular basis. Although, I'm not sure if that's automatically generated or if he actually has to post it daily.
I haven't heard anything since the original news
mrp has been doing it.
mrp has been doing the list, judi - took her a day or two to figure it out but she seems to have it down pat now
gd evening everybody
how did your doctor visit go, sue?
Well, that explains that then.
hi, ruby!
Hi, rube
er, ruby!
Hiya, ruby!
I really should wash my bed head and go out for a walk.
lol, judi!
soorry to be another nosy parker, sue, I just read over the chog
The only rehab order from the hip surgeon is to gradually increase walking. However... it has been raining on and off. I have gone up and down the stairs quite a few times as well. (excuses, excuses)
np, ruby, I will be leaving shortly
something funny, my beloved dog Ruby has started bossing me around. She has developed a special, sharp, bark when she wants something.... It is too funny
did you have a hip replacement, judi?
she'll make that noise, then roll over on her back for guess what?
tummy rub!
(at least that's what my dog would want)
she's almost 9, so I don't mind
Oooh. Tummy rubs. Too funny. No hip replacement, uusue. Had an IT band lengthening.
anyone have the gu7 please
oh, ok. Good luck with your recovery, judi!
don't have it, ruru
My newest kitty's former owner said kitty didn't like her tummy touched. Guess who now gets the rollover, stretch and plaintive "mew"?
don't have it, ru
so I don't have the only pet'/tyrant!
Thanks, uusue. I go back to work in two weeks. Pffth.
Hubby calls me the cat whisperer.
well, maybe you'll be bored by then, Judi :-)
dumb question: what is the IT band?
Trochonteric band (tendon) - goes across hip joint and down the outside of the leg. Mine had shortened (genetic, most likely), so the surgeon went in and made zig zag incisions to lengthen it. Fun times or what?!
ouch! thank you for that info, though
no one has the gu7?
Sorry, ru
I am getting a tad bored, ruby. However, I could really get used to not working any more. (Insert big laugh here). Realistically, I'll probably be retiring at the age of 72 like every other poor working sod.
we need to entertain you!
Yeah, I figure I may be able to retire when I'm 70, as long as the State of Illinois doesn't remove my pension
Gu 7/64 gu* in your mouth & an unwanted plant in the garden
Please do, ruby! Dance, monkies! Dance!
Thanks, Lindrickway!
ty lindrick, that is probably what's taking over my garden!
yvw Jellen
I love you lindy
yvw ruby
I can't do high kicks any more, maybe my IT needs to be lengthened.....
thank you
thanks, lindrick! I figured it was a compound word but would not have come up with THAT combination!
aaww shucks ruru *blushing*
yvw
nice to see you too..lurker..lol
<--- never could do high kicks
how is your knee ruru?
Phhth. I'll have a City pension as well, Ruby. But I know I won't be able to live on that and/or Social Security (if that even exists by the time I retire). So, I just keep plowing money into the mutual funds and hope for the best.
terrible..
oh no........
my IRA is less than half what it was when I retired and I haven't even started to take it down
sorry to hear that, ruru! Knees are not well-designed, IMHO.
gu7. What you chew and chew and chew+we 4/9
hi kenny
Poor ruru. [[[[[HUGS]]]]]
I just withdrew half my IRA to pay my son's legal bills :-P
aaarghhh, sue
may I have stats or a clue for the lonely e on the bottom (for nbt)
omg uu...
Uhhgh, uusue. That hurts. Hubby just borrowed against his to pay off our DAMN credit card. Nice to have that off our backs.
en 6/18
that ought to keep him celebate for a while.
fortunately I also have a retirement fund from earlier employment, state retirement, and a little bit of social security.
if that means whole, then it's from the other e, jellen
but now it is time to go - will post update later
hi ruby, sue, ruru, Judi
LOL, ruru. Celibacy and indentured servitude to his mum!
hiya bichon
Hi, bichon
miserable here: 40's and raing. Fluffs won't go outside
Bye, sue!

Whoop. Time out for a kitty tummy rub!

Hello, Bichon. Lovely festive photo of the fluffs.

ty kenny
and ruby
Fortunately, the fluffs agreed to poop before it started really coming down
I wonder if any other compounds go before we**
all the possibilities sound nasty
Very cooperative of them, Bichon. Our other bizzarro cat actually likes the rain.
I have 90 words and have hit a wall
rain and Bichons don't mix. It makes their urls too curly
amelu, I still don't get that bottom e
En6/18: main course.
en 6/18 whole
when it rains the house fills up with large muddy footprints; neither of these dogs mind the rain
that's the other e

slap me with a fish course
Hoping to make it to a 100, then I'll list
I have 98 and nothing in sight
how is your weather, lindrick? it is chilly here in Eastern France, and we usually get London weather, 3 days later
we are having strange weather at the moment ruby, more like spring, with heavy showers then sunshine
temp around 15 c
yesterday it was almost 80F in the afternoon but today is nasty and damp but no rain
we could use some real rain
before the plants go to sleep for the winter
we are supposed be getting nice sunshine at the weekend
almost 80 ruby! Wow, we haven't seen warm weather in a while. Waiting for Indian Summer
we've been very lucky with the weather
we have had lovely weather up til this week really
I give up with 59 left
good night everybody
Toodles, ruby!
night ruby
*poof*
I've bonked at 86. Need to go to the list. 7's are particularly elusive.

hi again, all!
back from the doctor, looks like there is probably nothing serious going on with my thyroid but they will biopsy it just to be sure
Good news Sue, glad to hear it.
me too!!
good news sue. What were your symptoms?
good to hear UU!!
morning all :)
af6 is a + no price + consonant
Hi (((MRP)))
ty LBD
(((dawg))) !
hi, bichon, details in my profile - I had radiation treatments to my neck when I was an infant and now have thyroid nodules
ty
so I get regular ultrasounds, and one of the nodules had grown (a little) since the last one
hi sue!! (Hugs)
hi, mrp!!!
sue, when my mother was a teen she had radiation to her face for acne. She ended up with thyroid problems and breast cancer
I was 4 weeks old, bichon, they burned a lump off my neck with X-rays
gu7?
holy moly bichon !! and hi
stuff you chew + plants you don't want in your yard, pigeonman
gu7 is a compound word
the things they did for acne back then was incredible! my mother had same
holy cow. ty
sue, are you ok though?
and it didn't really help that much
yes, the dangers weren't known at the time.
well, I'm concerned, mrp, but not as worried as I was before talking to the doctor today
hi all
I will need to keep having ultrasounds every year or two for the rest of my life, though
what year did you have the radiation?
hi, sue!
1951, bichon
i have had radiation treatment more than several times, but they warned me about all side effects (including not being allowed to fall pregnant for 3 years)
well sue, at least the doc has helped with today... I hope that the whole thing is perfectly fine hunny :)
hello all :)
nobody knew there were side effects back then, unfortunately
hi, sadie!
Hi sue
I just learned today that even if you are negative for the BRCA mutation [enetic breast and ovarian cancer], you can have a different mutation, BART
Hi all!
huh, never heard of BART
and hi again, jellen!
hi Jellen
And, health insurance doesn't cover this genetic test. It costs $700. The same lab in the US [Myriad in Utah] holds the patents
I never did until today. I had the BRCA test 5 years ago and it was negative. Now, I'm wondering. I called the genetic counselor today, but she was out of the office
right, my health insurance didn't cover it, so I wound up having a hysterectomy (fibroids, ovarian cyst, and strong family history). The test would have been a lot cheaper.
so you have a family history too, bichon?
How are you feeling today Jellen?
To me, $700 doesn't seem like that much money, considering the consequences. But to someone else, it sure might
Strong, both my father and mother. And I'm Ashkenazic Jewish
back when I was looking into it (maybe 12-13 years ago?) the BRCA test was more like $2500 and I couldn't afford it
my insurance didn't even cover the genetic counseling, which I didn't find out until afterwards
I had it in 2005 and my insurance covered it all.
could i get a clue for the re7?
well, that is good! And i'm glad you came out negative.
which one pigeon
don't have it, pigeonman
I just have to go back in.
But since I read this article today, I just am not that sure any more
either one of them
jellen, what do you need to go back in for?
Oops, that was an re7 clue...
re 7/28 is to go back in and the second one is the comparative form of the word before it

Congratulations on your test!
Hi Bichon! TY!
hi, carlee and car!!

Hi uusue!!!
carlee...if you scan it I will hang it on my fridge!
yay on the test, carlee!
hahaha.... well....it is about 8 pages of writing :p
thanks sue :)
My magnets can handle it!
its in my "fun class"
It is good to have a fun class! Keeps you sane, I think!
( even a postponement on my date ( again) didnt bring me down...)
so..i learned something REALLYinteresting in this class last week ...if anyone cares to hear....
Do tell...
yes please!
in the qur'an in the creation story ( adam and eve ) there is also a little passage about iblis ( an angel ) who refused to bow down to adam with all the other angels when God commanded the angels to do so...
this is in the quran....which was "revealed " early 500 CE
NOw..that little passage is NOt in the bible... ( which they started to compile in rome about 400 CE ) BUt..it is in the non cannonized scripture of the apocryphs....
Interesting!
so..i ask..HOW...did Mohammed ( an illiterate shepherd in what is now saudi arabia ) find out about a story... that is not contained in the bible... but does exist unpublished.... to incorporate it in the quran....
Very!
(more than 100 years later )
it was one of those things that make u go hmmmmmm
( grabbing a coffee brb)
Cool! Love this stuff!
ok...gotta go to class... have a good evening...
Bye, carlee...
bye, carlee!
Seain, are you around? I can't believe they canceled the Reston Challenge because of weather.
What's the Reston Challenge?
and what's the weather?
A fall festival in Reston, VA. It looked like it was going to be a fun event. But it's canceled because it's going to be 40 degrees? ?
Aww...no fun!
geez, since when is it not 40 degrees at the end of October? (or have I lived in the northern tundra too long?)
Probably some rain too, but seriously, people are freaking out around here because there has been talk of that rain turning to snow. Right. Since when does it snow when it's above freezing?
And if there is snow, it will be light and WAY north of Virginia. Oy.
well, you can have snow in the air that melts when it hits the ground as long as the clouds are below freezing, but still.
We are somewhat spoiled around here. Generally it's still Indian Summer at the end of October. We've actually had some balmy Novembers and Decembers as well.
ah - i've taken a small child around for Halloween during a snowstorm, more than once! Don't remember that from growing up in New Jersey, though!
What crappy weather- it's going to be a looooong winter
<---Living in denial. It's going to be the balmiest winter on record. People are going to be amazed at how nice, not cold and not snowy it is.
In Santa Barbara maybe.
Soaps are silly.
Soaps define "non-reality". Which is why people tune out from their real life to watch them.
Yeah, Molly- like reality shows are real.
I do like tuning out to this alternate reality.
Right now, someone is massaging Brady's pecs very slowly.
He has a towel conveniently placed on his lap.
Oop- Sammi walked in on them.
Bo & Hope- law enforcement officers extraodinaire- just hacked a computer in a fertility clinic-
to find out what the hell happened to Maggie's eggs.
I lay no claim to the idea that "reality" shows are real. I don't watch them. People have been attracted to the alternate reality of stories since they were first told, then written down and then recorded.
You remember those eggs, don't you?
I know Molly, I was being ironic. Which is one letter away from being iconic.
Take ye no offense.
No ye olde offense has been taken. We all need our spots to tune out.
2 nout.
shakespeare wrote soap operas.
Shakespeare was brilliant. Centuries before his time on writing what entertains people and "takes them away".
Tube e or not tube e.
Good evening kiddos.
Hi Scrabbler, how are you tonight?
Tired and happy to be here to do something mindless. How are you?
Just about that very same way. It's been a long week and I am so looking forward to the weekend.
I had planned to do some weight lifting etc but would prefer to get into bed!
good evening, folks, hi Molly, Scrabbler, Kap - who else is here?
I'm taking a break from my Italian midterm assignment, need to speak English for a bit :)
Hi JBV! Where are you taking an Italian class?
Hi Rutgers Deb. Good to hear you're taking a break. : )
Scrab, I'm auditing a higher level undergraduate class at Rutgers -
I of course am not getting a grade, but I am doing all the assignments, and learning a lot!
I have been studying Italian on LearnItalianPod.com--I downloaded the audio lessons onto my iPod. I wish I had more time to study.
Glad to hear that is working out so well for you JBV. What a fun thing to pursue.
what is it like - dialogs and you listen and repeat?
yes, Molly, I'm really glad I did it - just being on campus is very energizing
Yes. I have been searching for good audio lessons to put on my iPod and discovered the site last wk. They have beginner to advanced.
have you ever heard of LiveMocha? It's free and you can hook up with native speakers who will critique your written samples and also evaluate your spoken samples...
also you should know about Loquendo - it's a site where you enter Italian words and they read it out loud for you:
http://www.loquendo.com/en/demo-center /interactive-tts-demo/
Yes, I bookmarked that but am not ready to be critiqued. Haha.
Yep, that is also bookmarked.
And I found this last weekend: http://www.byki.com/fls/free-italian-s oftware-download.html
so many resources now - and free!
Some of the sites charge for upgrades but the free programs are sufficient. I have Danesi's book on Italian verbs. Darn tenses and conjugations!
I took the course mainly because I wanted to improve my language skills but I have to admit I am learning a lot about Italian cinema and literature -
did you ever study Italian before, scrabs, in high school or college?
I would love to go back to college and take interesting courses.
I did a semester in college and have dabbled in it since then--so 30 yrs.
well, as a Senior Citizen (ahem!!) I get to register for free - it's a tremendous community service
I actually wonder how many people are taking advantage of it
I'll get my chance someday, God willing.
It's funny - it is not something I thought of when I retired, just kind of fell into it, but it's perfect for me
I have become more focused on learning Italian over the last few yrs. You have inspired and motivated me.
have you seen Scent of a Woman with Al Pacino? (1992)?
Yep.
I never knew it was based on an Italian movie of the same name (Profumo di Donna) made in 1974, and that was based on an Italian novel (1969) - that's what we're working on now
Aha.
if you have a chance, see if you can get the Italian verson - you will see an amazing performance by Vittorio Gassman
Is your class presented in Italian?
oh yes, all in Italian
I've written three two-page papers so far , got 98, 99, and 99 :)
Are you able to understand everything? Are the students Italian majors?
You are a superstar!
My comprehension is excellent, I'm working on my speaking skills, unfortunately, we don't get a lot of chances to converse in class - but my writing has definitely improved
the students are cool - mostly juniors and seniors, they're adorable
So the instructor doesn't speak too fast?
no, he's good, he stops to translate once in a while if everybody looks clueless :)
How have you learned the darn verbs? I am SO overwhelmed by the tenses and conjugations.
he's young (of course, everyone is younger than me) and very Italian - molto bello!
Is the instructor from Italy?
well, scrabs, don't forget I am bilingual in Spanish, and there is A LOT of similarity in the basic grammar
yes, he's from Perugia
(the land of Baci chocolates!)
I was doing sports physical exams at a local high school on Tuesday and met an exchange student from Assisi.
a high school student?
Yes, blond and blue-eyed. Very sweet.

Hi jes, cosdem, ruru and Mary.
hi Neil!
I'm trying to figure out what your icon pic is, Mary? And don't you need to update your profile content just a little?
uh yeah. It's my college logo.
Oh... btw. Check my Oct. 26 update and the link there.
That's a college logo?
ok
yup.LOL and our motto is omnia extares
and our mascot is a geoduck.
hmm.. that link isn't working for me
but I found it anyway.
Huh? It's on my YouTube channel. I uploaded i there yesterday.
"what's your major?" "acting". Love it.
"uploaded it there yesterday" even. Geez.
Yeah. I was trying not to keep my eyerolling subtle.
Sorry... trying to keep it subtle!
I went to say "not let it show"... ugh.
Note: has not happened. I'm laughing pretty hard at that.
It came out better than I expected. I didn't see it until yesterday myself, when my friend who shot it finally got it downloaded, converted to the right format and sent it to me.
He added the text I wanted and the logo.
Yep. I asked him to put that in... it had to be said.
Oh. I have something interesting to show you. Emailing it.... brb.
"I think these movements need to remain as ambiguous as possible." hmmmm
Yeah. Check email Mary.
