The inventor was trying to put letters that occur next to each other at a distance from each other so that the keys wouldnt' jam as often.
so now that there are no real manual typewriters anymore (much) - I'm surprised someone hasn't renovated the keyboard, like straight thru from A to Z, perhaps... kids would probably be able to learn it easier?
Well, Sholes first typewriter WAS alphabetical. And then because of jamming, he designed the keyboard we use now. A man named Dvorak designed one that supposedly is more efficient.. but no testing shows a great improvement.

you know, I originally started out studying electronics and computers, I laugh today remembering one class where we had to keypunch huge decks of cards, take them to a big central computer, get a printout, rewrite programming errors, repunch the cards... things have sure come a long way.
yeah.. my brother was still doing cards when I was in junior high.
and by the time I got to college, it wasn't like that at all
sometimes I wonder if I'd be a rich computer mogul if I'd stuck with that, but... roads not taken. :P

i have a daughter with 39 fever... no sleep for me for 2 days now. poor kid is in so much pain
i have her sleeping with me tonight so i can give her medication on time to stop her becoming too sick
last night, she woke at 4am with 40c and crying. have been keeping down the temp all day with ice and meds. the headaches she gets is just horrid from the temperature.

hi Flask, all I know is that he always struggles with severe depression and such. Some periods of time are harder than others. I always feel that if he doesn't chat at all here, things must be bad.

a bit of peace for the mind is so important. For me, babble is often just that little bit easier to reach out to, than picking up a phone and calling a friend. Babble keeps me connected when I don't connect to anything or anyone.

hello again. I found babble right after mr hate left me, and, while there was definitely a period where I overshared and alienated people, it was a life saver. As you so wisely said, sprite, balance is key

it's been ages since i've roasted a turkey...so i bought half a breast and one hind quarter...any ideas on how long to roast them?

i uh. i don't roast turkey. I put it in the crockpot with mike's hard lemonade (or cranberry). Takes several hours, depending on how much turkey you have.
I usually toss it in and then leave to do something, and it's dinner when I get back. :)
i guess i should see how much turkey i bought! lol all this cuz i wanted to make turkey soup! but a couple turkey dinners wont be too bad.
I'd put it in the crockpot now and plan on dinner at 5 ish, depending on how hot your crock pot is. unless it's frozen. then it'd be tomorrow dinner in a crockpot.
or tomorrow lunch, i guess, but leaving it in longer doesn't hurt as long as it doesn't run out of liquid
my crockpot isn't big enough for all of this meat. but i'll definitely try your process with chicken. sounds good!
how much turkey do you have?
bruce says you need a thermometer, not a timer. put it in and when it's 150F take it out and let it rest (covered, loosely) for 15 - 30 minutes. The temp will keep coming up after you take it out of the oven, should top out at a bit over 160-165F.
then he said if you really wanna do it really well, you should roast the hind quarter separately because "goodness" is achieved at different temperatures for white and dark meat.

I think it sounds sort of like some of the desserts an aunt used to make when I was young (lots of whipped cream, marshmallows etc.) but they didn't have pistachio jello back in "the olden days."

Thanks Nef. Feeling sorry for myself at the moment, he is SO angry that I am asking him to be accountable for his grades, and to bring them up. I told him tonight there are NO after school activities or visits with friends until the schoolwork is in (or the teachers email me and tell me it's too late to turn in) AND the grades start to pick up.
I am an excellent Mom. I really would have preferred to be an aunty...
I wish I would have known about the research showing that they act like they doi because their brains aren't fully developed til they are in their 20's. I would have used that as ammunition whenever they got out of line! ;-)
Well, I think I am on the right track to require both grades and respect before I will pay for driver's training/license etc. Kids need to demonstrate they are ready for the responsibility of driving before I risk my insurance rates!
