i am going away again tomorrow, so clues may not be up for a few days... i will take my puter and try to get it working this time. I am planning to take several holidays this month.
Hi Mrp ... where are you going :o)
hey norma! back to the beach house... need a tan! :) how are you?
Sounds wonderful, I am fine a bit cold it is freezing here lol
I heard that the weather turned nasty! we are having a cold summer here too!
How cold??
it is only in the mid 20's celcius for January... that is just not right
That is cold for you guys, it is your summer ??
we are usually in mid 30's at this time... and in Feb, high 30's to low 40's
yes, we are in high summer
September was hotter
The weather all around the world is upside down, you can't guarantee nice weather anywhere now
not much we can do about it but it is just so odd~!
Are the family keeping well??
we are Norma... thank you for asking~! how you going?
We are keeping well ...
I like hearing that all is well! I have Jilli coming here in less than 2 months and am worried about her break.
I had so much planned for her, and don't know what to expect now for her.
That will be a nice holiday for her, the break sounds very nasty .. she seems to be quite upbeat about it
she always has been an upbeat girl!
Give her a hug from me
I will thanks Norma! :))

I've been cooking all morning, so am ready for a rest
what is the weather like in france?
just freezing but sunny and beautiful
but we're in the mountains
it is 75 this morning in Texas
and snow is only higher up
Hey I am in the grid!
hello god!!

yesterday we were talking about godbread and I thought of you
anyone found the ea5 yet?
Hi (I meant my real name)
What's godbread?
somebody mispelled good bread and then we were talking about bread and religion

Good morning all

It is 0 degrees in the sun lol
he plays in 3 bands: mysteriousways, Blind Orange Jefferson and Think Lizzie and is a data-base administrator
you could get a sunburn!
LOL
does anybody know if you can get vitamin D from even cold sunshine?
Time for dinner bbl
bye norma
bye ruby
... yes ... because it's your body that uses the light to manufacture the vitamimn D ... you just don't get enough light in winter to make nearly as much as you get in summer
but every little bit helps, n'est-ce pas?
and hello dose
... and you don't get as much of the food components that you use in to make the vitamin D
... g'morning
which foods help that?
my nutrition book isn't helpful
... sorry ... I'm remember this from mother's knee ... milk and dairy was one ... but I'll bet the usual vegetable suspects are in there too
well, I'm the dairy queen! only like white and yellow foods
eggs!!! milk!!! pudding!!
... sorry ... a quick webcheck ... it's fat soluable acid based ... ... thus milk and dairy ... and fatty fish like salmon and tuna ... ...
thank you, I appreciate that. So I'm on the right track
... and then in winter there is less sunlight and you cover up all your skin ... it's manufactured in the skin
because the air is so clear here, it is possible to get quite a lot of sun on skin, even in winter
<-- going outside the studio to sit in the sun

I mean not acceptable words.
I think I need my coffee.
Enjoy. There is also the mountain that Noah's Ark landed on, also not acceptable

hi hurshy! I am striking out on the middle column.

bye, aloy!

yaaa for hurshy
na4 that proper noun! mrs. gorbachev
Raisa!

one more R would give me a grey diagonal. anyone have the fourth top R? i have: wicker like material, lecture angrily, and brit sp of knock down building
ooh i found it!!!!
a knocking sound
ooh, and a 7 to boot! That gives me nbs!
you really are my hero, hurshy :-)
anyone have the third N besides the na4 and pl that i mentioned in my na4 that proper noun?
:)
na6 - swimming Frenchy style
ah ty!
how are you today haz?
You're welcome.
I'm well, quite excited by an interesting letter I've received.
oh? anything you can share?
hi, haz!
Yes, a bit of a long story....
what is babble chat for if not long stories?
ok clues, but, long stories too.
I'm secretary for the speech and drama section of our local festival. Today, one of the poets whose poem is in the syllabus, contacted me to say that he would be in NI at the time and could he visit the festival. My dream would be to get him along to listen to the 10 year old boys saying his poem and then announce to them - here's who wrote it.
oh how nice!
that is really exciting, haz!
I just think it would be so fun if we can get it to work.
well if he already has indicated that he wants to come then i should think you would be able to
... off the walls suggestion ... ... maybe he could read something they wrote
ok, off to work, bbl!
It's just that I haven't drawn up the programme yet so it may or may not be convenient for him to visit at that exact time. We'll see.
have struggled my way to 80%... what have we got in the way of a list today?
well why don't you see when he can be there and schedule that part of the programme accordingly?
... lickety
ty dos
I'l definitely try to tailor it to suit him, I've e-mailed him and we'll keep fingers crossed it can work out.
Thank goodness there are quite a few entries for his class - major egg on face if nobody had wanted to say the poem.
that would put a bee in his sonnet I guess
lol
Hello, ruru.
good afternoon Haz.. great to see you here
I bet you say that to all the girls.
yes.. sure.. but only the ones I like a lot
*preening* How are you?
i'm fine.. i've scheduled my surgery for early Feb.. and will hopefully be back on my feet by March or april
I'm pleased to hear it. You'll not know yourself when you're free of pain.
tip: take consonants and alternate with A's, you will get several sixes and some pl for sevens that way.
How long will you be in hospital?
that'd be nice
3 days they are saying
That's not too long and it will be so worth it in the end.
yes.. I think so too..just scary for me.. all new experience
I'm sure it will be fine.
Is it the anaesthetic that scares you or just the feeling of being under someone else's control?
this is sure a confusing grid
It's the sort of grid where even though you know you haven't been drinking, it would nearly make you think you had.
being knocked out and under someone's control.. my uncle died on the operating table a year ago
I can sympathise - my aunt died at the end of November, but she was having major heart surgery.
((((ruru))))
he was having minor surgery.. jeez
it is indeed scary, but the vast majority of these things are very successful - I am sure you will be fine
But you're younger than him.
are you having a total knee replacement?
yes...that's true...
this is where I don't want to be in the 1% Sue..LOL
it's more like 0.0001%, I suspect...
complications do happen (I've had some myself) but fatal ones are rare
who would carry on the sick puns here if I was gone.. we have things to consider
And the chances are that you'll sail through. I put off having gall bladder surgery for ages and afterwards wondered why I'd delayed - it was a breeze compared to what I'd built it up to in my mind.
really, ruru!! You perform an essential function here and cannot be replaced!
Maybe the anaesthetic will have the effect of wiping all desire for punnery from your brain.
oh..wouldn't that make a few people happy here..lol
well, I've had my gall bladder removed and also had my knees replaced - the knees are a lot worse, no fun at all. But after the rehab it is a LOT better (that is, I can walk now)
Tell them none of the laughing gas in case it makes you worse (at the punning).
lol
does anyone have a clue for the last ta 5/10...the one right after the fish sauce?
*Makes a note to send volumes of Valentines to recuperating Ru
Buttonman, just take one consonant away from the sauce.
... looks just like the fish sauce but only one r
thanks haz, got it...i looked and looked and could not find it...thanks again
No problem, you're welcome.
it is the anaesthetic that always bugs me ru.i ALWAYS stop breathing while on it and wake up with a tube jammed down my throat,i suppose my reflux, apnea and asthma do not help, but my throat is raw for days
*holds Head*
Sticks fingers in ruru's ears.
sorry,do not mean to give you the heebie-jeebies
what are you going in for anyways?
LALALALALALALAL
*Sings LALALA so Ru won't hear*
crossy is bad..hangs head in shame...
hi and good morning everyone - let's all join in the chorus, LALALALALA
You'll be grand, ruru. Never listen to men from Canada. They wear checked shirts.
lol
rofl
and hip waders Haz
I rest my case.
Haz! Hilarious!
so,what is the operation for?
... and overalls with suspenders ... and bow ties
i wear a string tie thank you very much
suspenders as well as a belt
... and a white cowboy hat from Calgary?
and do not forget the snappy bright red suspenders
oh, of course crossy
... Red and Green suspenders
and the sharp axe..so watch it:0
and don't forget, we have to wear snowshoes all year long
... oh fersure, eh!
indeed, and the whale oil lamps and flosey can chew me up a pair of moccasins
lol, for sure crossy, they do have to be well chewed before being wearable
i catually have 6 sled dogs running on a treadmill, with a old alternator from a pick up truck wired to it..so my computer runs on dog power
ah, good one crossy
... and is held together with duct tape
yup costs me 6 frozen fish a day(for the dogs)
I want a computer that runs on gerbils rowing, like Ozzie Davis on that GEICO commercial. : )
good morning everyone
Hi West
Good morning, westford.
hi west
trying to find a good time to jump in
howdy westford
hello haz and crossy
hi flosey too
lol just put on the beach wear and dive in
don't forget Canada gave us Gordon Lightfoot
through the ice, of course
that is the polar bear dip eh?
no thanks lol
... and Captain Kirk
... and Ben Cartwright
it is good for the pores
... and Perry Mason
... and Glenn Ford
Brian Adams
and half decent bacon ,and beer that is not 50% water
but they couldn't write songs like Gordon
I sense a swelling of Canadian pride.
.........and Anne Murray
... certainly not Bill Shatner
oh yes Haz, we are that
lots of good people especially our Canada babblers
... hey ... the curling is back on television
i like him ok,but i wish he would stop grinding out stoopid shows and just retire already
you can keep your Canada geese though..
<--Notices they never mention Celine : P
unfortunately yes, afraid so west
... they're actually American ... they just migrate north in the summer
she's good
ahh celiene...aka the screamer
WHO! Molly
not Celine~!!!!!
the ones we have in the park across from us don't go home
she's the anti-christ
celiene does not need to go to different venues, she can just start hollaring from wherever she happens to be at the time:)
really ruru? I like some of her songs
hi ruru
if only someone else would sing them west
*hands back to ears *...lalalalalalala
*hugs Flosey*
... yes ... some are quite nice ... but when the CRTC starts pushing the Canadian content rules on the radio and every third song you hear is Celine ... she wears really quickly
sending ruru celiene and some geese
ahhhh, thanks ru, hugs back
true flosey come to think of it I haven't heard her sing anything for a long time
and shania is still having problems and as far as i know is not singing at this time
back to Gordon..love his songs
gordon is da man!
I got the drum roll
all I can say crossy is nono and nene
and lets not forget ole stomping tom when we are 3 sheets to the wind and need something lively
heard it from here west
in 7 please?
I am as loud as 'lalalala'
... but he's getting really old and can't sing any more ... ... went to hear him at Massey hall with my daughter two years ago ... and it was sad ... his voice is quite weak and shakey ... ... but the standing ovations were all about the entire audience (even me) hearing the songs from te perspective of 1969
in7 - an archaic form for one who enters
... in 7 ... someone who goes into a competition ... usually spelt with an e
indeed dose,my mind hears him in his prime as well
thank you both
You're welcome, ruru.
he is aging at that dos but he'll never get old as long as we can listen to our CD's
ty for in7
Sundown
... yeah ... I go to Massey Hall to hear him every 10 years ... with someone new each time ... ... I'll probably buy a ticket in 2016 too
silly i word
thank you
all our good singers are getting old:(
I must head off to post some letters. Enjoy the rest of the grid - bye for now!

didn't they have a holiday yesterday too, stid?
... I can use the potassium

MLK was yesterday. "Snowmageddon" today -- or what passes for it out here. we have had about 6 inches over the last 24 hours, of which 3 inches are still slowly melting. A major storm expected tonight, so likely no school tomorrow either. And then back to normal, with rain.
well, we had a bunch of bananas from costco and I did my best, but there were too many for me to eat so we used the extras. I love banana bread. We make ours with applesauce, so it's really double-yummy
oh well -- melting is better than -14C -- the temp at home
lol..we get 6 inches of snow just to liven up the morning drive:)
yes, I heard you were having an arctic blast up there, nan.
it when the lake effect stuff is howling of georgian bay that things get nasty
LOVE BANANA BREAD. Thx Stid.
I'm in Palm Desert, STid -- avoiding all that!
as long as that bay is not frozen over,we will continue to have it as a snow making machine
levage?
this side of the mountains often does not get much snow. Accumulations of more than a couple inches are hard because we don't have sufficient plows and sanders to get all the non-city areas. Our road has had neither plow nor sand in the 12 years we've been here. We are often the last people to get out after a major storm (this one really isn't major)
na 6, please?
good for you nan!
LOL ((((Judy)))) wondered if we would see you today! hope all is well with you.
fine, thx, Stid. Right now we have no snow on the ground although I think that's gonna change on Thursday. Did have sleet last night. HATE ICE!

we had sleet Saturday night -- stidkid #2 got stranded at a friend's house because I could get him there, but wasn't able to get back out to fetch him. Then it snowed... LOL he walked a mile from where his friend's parent left him off at the top of the other side of the gully to our house.
Now that I've said that, I probably cursed the weather and we'll be bombarded with 6 feet of snow
... all the snow is gone here too ... it's in the 40's fahrenheit ... and it's raining ... and we're getting a flash freeze after dinner ... ... there'll be cars into the guardrails over the highways tomorrow morning
ah, a swimmer word -- thanks lilliann!
I hope you don't get any more sleet, Judy, and may the snow be pretty and short-lived

I did an education observation on a special ed class where there was a kid who learned to read because of his desire to learn how to cook. Nothing else motivated him.

Well, mostly the encyclopedia, but there is so much more information on the cyber highway.

now back to our regularly scheduled bacon:)
okay, must go make something for lunch. bbl
I'm not against a Bill that would combat on line piracy
remeber, the fbi will then be able to go to your isp and review every single site you have visited
for instance,i just bought a book from kobo books,it is in e pub format for every reader but kindle,if this new law passes,i will not be able to share that book with you
i can share a paperback i bought last week, but i will nor be able to share this file
is sharing that file with you any worse or better than handing you the same thing in hardcover to read?
The problem is, the number of people you can "share" with multiplies significantly when you "share" via the internet. Same goes with music file sharing.
therin lies the problem, all those cassette tapes of songs i recorded off the radio in the 80,s are also illegal then
Technically they are, if you try and sell them.
of course it does,if you read my hardcover in one day,you might let your friend sally read it before returning it also
ahh,but what if i sell none of it?
what number is too many then, myself, you and sally,or more? or less?
I don't think personal use is an issue here. This is reminiscent of people who copy and "share" movies.
then that division must be made clear
for acrchival and personal would be fine, not so for running off 100 copies and selling them at the flea market
(which is huge in china btw)
as an author or singer, you will have to embrace the new formats, offer your book free for example in a basic text format for free, then also offer it in e pub with full illistrations and a leather bound hardcover both for a fee.and the potential audience is now global as you say,so instead of gutting the customer at 30 dollars for each hardcover and selling 500,000,do micro payments and sell 6 million copies.the way we write, publish, collect payment and read is going to change
lol..crossy gets off the soap box
good afternoon all back for a few more
it is how radio has run for over a century, they play songs to you for free and can stay on the air from ad revenue, but what the singer gets is you wishing to go out and buy the cd or see the singer live.it is a little nibble for free
hi all back with a full belly and fw!!
howdy westford, welcome to the crossy soap box minute:)
always good to hear crossy
wb lil
hi lil nice to see you

hi ruby what a shame huh?
hi hego
howdy hego
Ruby, you didn't go there.
I never did like cruising, anyway.
oh you talking bout that cpt who grounded his cruise liner?
yes
and as you say if you've bought a book whether it be for an ebook or paperback, why can't you share it, but i suppose if it's a paperback you only have it for a while(unless you don't give it back) but an ebook you get to keep for good so authors don't get their royalties & the book companies lose out
I am shocked about the whole thing which is getting a lot of coverage here
can anyone help me with the ma7,32 which isnt an alien, drink or possibly a mans name
the small alaska cruises are great hego,20 couples and 1 crew member for each 2 couples and all cabins are topside ocean view:)

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd. - Voltaire

Green person who comes from another planet.

ma + ra4 + vowel is a better clue, ignore my last one
thanks got it
Cos, did you watch Alcatraz?
Daggone it, I missed it Molly. When was it on?
no. i recorded it though. iw atched betty whites special instead
ill watch tonight.
Hi people.
Hi neil
I'm going to watch it on Hulu. We can compare notes later.
sounds good!
ar5 pls
Hi SeaSpray. How's it going?
hi neil
Sea it was on last night. You can catch it on Hulu or probably the ABC web site.
saw the clue for ar5 ty
Hi cos. :)
hola
I just searched it Molly...it comes again this Saturday (the pilot) so I will record. Thank you
just checked hulu. it is on for sure. but the first half isnt captioned. the 2nd half is thouh lol. its good i dvr'ed it.
the first ma6 please

Builds on previous ma5. Add another of the double consonant to end of word
thanks!
Ar 6 please
Ms done
first ma5/12 pls
Food from heaven
not woman + 1/2 of grandma
sheesh, ty cos
yw
ty Jax,thought I had tried that one
first ra5/10 please?
Part of a circle
isnt that the ra5/12 though?
I wonder why Hulu is not consistent with it's closed captioning. Considering the ADA, it would seem everything that is broadcast should be captioned.
Sorry yes it is. Ra 5/10 lift up
ra + sun skin color
oops - or ra5 - to lift up
ok lemme think.. thanks....
Molly -- Captions is not under ADA
but congress passed a new law last year.. the telecommunications captioning act... which requires services like cnn, netflix etc. to provide captions. it takes effect later this year
The ra5/12 is half the measure of a circle, plural
netflix is in the process of inserting subtiles in their streaming movies.. right now there are 74 pages worth of movies on netflix. i was able to watch all 3 seasons of Merlin on it.
duh that ra5/10 was a fish.. thanks kje and jax
I thought Merlin had a lot of potential but seemed to lack in the writing department.
bbl
it's fun to watch though.
a fun drinking game would be to have a shot every time gaius says "indeed" or when uther says "this is the work of magic"
wow i totally monkeyed the sa6/21 on my first try
evening all - this grid is really hard tonight
yes it is kaz
Merlin was a real stretch on Camelot legend too. Kind of a re-write.
sq6 please?
yeah molly i see a lot of inconsitenties but it's still fun.
Well, considering Merlin raised Aurthur, I would say there are inconsistencies. : P
never mind found it
lol yes.. the starz series camelot is also... eh... merlin didn't raise arthur in that series either
Oh rats, I was hoping the Starz series was better. I'll just have to keep watching "Mists Of Avalon" : )
starz series was cancelled.
i just bought the mists of avalon book... i have the movie so i'm looking firward to reading it
hello..back again and hoping to finish
4 left!

Oh good grief West, you don't need to hide chat. Jump on in.
hey molly
<---Does not get sparkly looks when it snows. Hi Stid.
molly just read a review of alcatraz.. wow they hate it lol but it did better in the ratings than terra nova did in its pilot episode
Hi all. Just starting and finding a few words. right now we see some blue skies and clouds and that snow.
Din din for Murphy now.
hello Mother
Hi mama. Murphy and Dad are having a pre din din game of ball. Murphy is winning.
(Murphy always wins) LOL
Yes. It makes calling the game simple. Game, set, match, Murphy.
LOL
I am about to look at this tetris game, stidkid #2 said my computer was running slow, but it seems okay to me. Tom is going to look it over, though.
well, down to 31 and stuck. back later to finish. *poof*
Finished. Last word was a Hindu one for "class". I did not enjoy this grid and wonder why I bothered. Used morewords a lot. Don't like doing that. Sulk.
And I missed stid again!
Hi Jilli, how is your ankle healing?
hi Molly -- it's hard to tell! I get x-rays on Feb 2.
Hi gmere!
I hope it's healing up well and that you have lots of people to help you out while it does.
or has she left too?
Yes, thanks, Molly -- I have Home Support and Home Nurse visits and a great neighbour who does shopping.
Well, I have other things to do so I think Ièll go and do them. And my keyboard is acting up again. That è was supposed to be an apostrophe. Anyone know how to fix itÉ
That É was supposed to me a question mark.
*to be
Got back and saw your message, Jilli. Good to see you were back on Babble!
Hi gmere! Glad to see youère obeying Murphyès Law. Sorry about my keyboard antics.
Glad to hear you are healing and have some help coming to you now. What a bore, ankles. Who needs them? apparently us.
We find we're at wits end much of the time but Murphy knows what to do.
I must have hit a wrong key somehow -- wish I knew which one.
Well, goodbye to anyone here, although I seem to be alone...*poof
Got in a rut looking for words. Neglecting my northern friend. Sorry.
It's okay Gran Mere. And I don't believe you would ever intentionally neglect anyone. Too good hearted.
TY Molly. You are a good chogger and a dear Babbler. Making something like chobbler? Perhaps. Words are excapting left and right. I shall be reduced to resources ere long.
Chobbler...I love it...that would make our GAPeach a Peach Chobbler. : )
clue for the ar

it took her 3 hours to come 45 minutes away
Oh Dog!

JMC, what did I miss? When did you buy a back woods house?

I couldn't try to think why I'd hate sty in the eye
1st ta7?
one of the manufacturers wet out of business
cause it hurts and is also unattractive, ru!
another phone call

that's okay, have been watching the online tutorials and think I would like to use many of the techniques. I liked (and needed the reminder) when he said that going easy on kids for neatness/legibility doesn't help them in the long run: don't accept sloppy work.

Nah Aircon
I am right Leslie
thanks Leslie I wouldn't know what to ask for

I'll try that, thanks.
West stop thinking That is helping me
I'm coming up with a lot of weird words ..that don't work
herin what do your kitties do when it's so hot?
Well I think one is sleeping in the window at the moment and I think the other is asleep in the bedroom either in the chest of drawers or on it
poor things can't take their coats off
No they cant. Madam is allowed in the window for a few hours but not when the sun shifts around 4pm
West last fortnight when it was stupid hot Lucius took to sleeping on the dinning table. Lets just say they got banned from the kitchen
I am sorry Picklnesny, but I did not do a story. Sorry to disappoint, but hard to do a story this late at nite w/this kind of grid. Must goto bed.Good luck finishing
Goodnight to my fellow babblers! I'll see you tomorrow
good night min sleep well
