hi all
hi sammys
Hi, s'mom
I taught my first class today!
nice jellen
great Jellen
did you enjoy it?
voicing a thought............... grand daughter had a baby a few days ago.... delivered after 11 hours labor, by c section......... oldest grand has t kids 1 three year old and a 5 month old... both by c section............. two of my friends have had grandchildren in the last year.. 2 out of 3 my c section>........ am i the only one who finds this odd and distressing???? \\
it does seem to be the norm nowadays
s'mom, my daughter had emerg. C she so wanted to have him naturally but just wasn't to be - she was in labour too long to let it go
sometimes it is necessary
Yes, I enjoyed my class...
same with our last 2 granddaughters our dil was in labor too long
good Jellen, what level did you teach
Freshman English at the local junior college.
good for you
that's terrific jellen

also a re 7....re + en 5
s'smom, it's always a contraversial issue here, too - people worry there are too many caesar's performed, and that they're just for convenience. All the ones I know of were for good reasons - scans showing baby not engaging properly etc. In all cases, baby and mum survived/thrived which is bottom line for me. I wish a couple of mine had been caesars, then I might not have so much pelvic flo0or trouble now!
Thanks, dart!
thanks dart

thanks for the input dofith
Hi, ru
hi jellen
hi ru, did you just come in? hadn't noticed you before
Probably "too much information" for some - lol!
brb...getting a snack...
just arrived flosey
hello ruru
hi westie
there's that goat
with the big grin!
what's so baaaad about that?
he;s just kidding around
it's a pasted on grin to humour ru with his puns
<---feels sheepish
can someone help me with the in7?
thanks PM, don't have it but looking

in-- give em one and the take a mile
oh boy *zips lip*
ty. i really hate all these small grids. they're ok as a change, but not a steady diet.
me too pige
I got to 60 pretty quickly
how old are you now ruru? :)
the years just flew by?
lol westy
not 60.. yet
don't push me ...lol
lol dart gmta
scary huh
I was 5 yesterday but I changed back
that's the youngest you can be on this grid
you can be unknown
when I put my real age back I had to keep scrolling down and down lol
what do you mean westie
in my profile ru
I wouldn't mind scrolling back a few
the last year is 2007
I like where I am
my mother is coming home today from the nursing home we are so excited
wonderful west
they were really good to her but there's no place like your own home
that is true west
for sure west, does she live alone?
my brother lives with her and he'll have help
great
we're only a mile and a half away too
wow.. nice
I'm so impressed by people who get along with their parents
that would be a great comfort to you both
she's 95 and her best quality is her sense of humor
good sense of humour can help you through so many challenges
it's gotten me through a lot of grids
lol ru, and your puns have helped a lot of us too
you bet lol what would we do without you
yeah.. you'd have to listen on and on from dart about how early he has to get up to drive his wife to the airport all the time..lol
*giggle*
i'm stuck
I'm stucker
think ruru might have to revisit some past new year's resolutions :)
was just talking to a HS girl - the schools on the island have gone to 4 day week, which means longer days, she's gone from 6:30 am and is home around 6:
no.. those days are over dart.. I have a purpose now..:)
that really sucks
you were on a farewell tour for about a month back then...then you unretired like some of those boxers lol
I wish high schools were 24 hour encampments personally
those kids are going to have health problems flosey
when I hit 5 million.. I'll retire again
she seems very happy with it west, loves the 3 day weekends
oh lol forgot about those
also fits in dance and music
our daughter and her husband both have 4 day work weeks..and lucky to have jobs
but she has Fri off and he has Mon
oh darn
that suchs
well, that sucks
how do you find these dart? jeez. I'm really stuck
I'm stuck. looking at same word forever,
take some time off for your knee ruru.....i'm sure you'll catch up again the next time i take a cruise
I wasn't going to stay very long but I do have nbt and if some kind (dart) soul would clue a 9 for me I'd have nbs and could go to bed
need a clue for ne6 please?
ne + re 4,4
if you get one 9 west, you'll get the other as well
thanks dart
fish packing places west...and hide proceesing centres
west the 9 are nearly the same - factories for tinning food & curing leather goods
guess I'll have to find the re words
processing that is
ah
only have 1 and it doesn't fit
I bet I know
I do I do
employ again flosey
thanks all
thanks dart
sorry i thought you were doing the big re words
I want to go to the Sardine Factory now
the re 4,4...has a bunch of anagrams in this grid
3 others to be exact
thanks dart, finally got the ne6
whew
:)
brain was starting to hurt over that
omg... there's a Kenny G cruise
is that good?
lot of music cruises now ruru...last 2 that we've gone on have been music cruises
sure if you want to jump overboard
don't have to jump now...water comes to you
I have a nice Christmas album that he did
kenny g is good for about 10 minutes then i need a change
what does Kenny G sing?
not familiar with the name
he plays an instrument..sax I think
very mellow
Soprano saxophone
elevator music
oh, love sax
worse than elevator music
or background for a supper club
(like denny's)
I love those old movies where people would get all dressed up and go out for dinner and dancing
i do like songbird for about 5 minuters............... must be getting bitchier in my old age-
oh, brother once borrowed a sax from on the the HSs during the summer, first day he blew and blew and all of a sudden one awful blast came out - neighbours complained so he gave it up
cat fight brb
night all.. I can't find anything
night ru, restful sleep
I'm with ya ruru
11 left & don't care anymore
when walter and i were dating and first married , we did that.. at least once a month - out to dinner and ballroom dancing dressed to the 9's ... it was wonderful
g' night all
oh yea, sammysmom
and then we had kids>
when you spoke to me in pogo the other day, I did answer you but you were gone by the time I could enter it since the next round had started
I'm s low typist but wasn't dissing you
yes- i got knocked off ny aol
OH ok I feel better now
thought you were insulted
alright then good night & poof
they did videotape us dancing at grand daughter's wedding 5 years ago............. they thought it was cool that this old guy with a portable oxygen tank and old lady who ignores her cane could still do some steppin... lol
no pug.. it was the site that booted me.
bet you look darn good s'mom
it was wonderful .. and then we danced with the bride and groom .. have it all on tape
thanks flosey
yup, and then the pain pills wore off and i behaved myself for the rest of the everning..lol
lol, I know how that is s'mom
back the boys are sorted
just scrolled down..what a beautiful memory sammys
liked the part where you said..and then we had kids lol
yes west, it was great.. great grandson, sam, saw the take last month ( he is three) and said " gee papa ang g'nana can realy rock and roll... ( thatt is his current favorite thing to do) i think flying will be next
that's so cute
love them at that age
do you dance with him?
he says he feels real old now... his sister is 5 months old and he has a new cousin.. says julia and selena aren't much fun but they are ok to look at
lol
we do the video thing .. did you know that there are at least 50 versions of "wheels on the bus"??
no but I bet you're right lol
I'm gone. Can't keep my eyes open. Good night all.

Hi Sprite
hello lyn :) xxx How have you been lately? Haven't run into you here.
Been playing each day but perhaps at slightly different times. Have been very well. What about you - any news?
yes must have missed eachother in chog. My daughter is not feeling well, very tired. In the process of getting her examined. New blood tests etc. Am a bit worried.
Hope you get a quick answer...kids share their germs around very freely
Blessings to your girl Sprite. Hope she feels better soon.
the doctor thinks she has suffered through a pneumonia in november. We didn't notice, no coughing and no constant high fever. Thought it was a flu and simply kept her in bed with lots of fluids. But she should be getting over it by now and she is still so very very tired... looks like a little raccoon.
thank you Molly, and hi
watching doco - Boy Interrupted - 7 yo, looked like an cherub - bipolar/ suicidal. Awful and so sad
oh that sounds so sad
those parents must feel so awful
Very brave of them to relive it all. Seem like a very normal and likeable couple
it may help other parent with bipolar and/or depressed children.
back again for a few minutes- any clues for se7?
hi zoom, will help look
ty sprite:)
lol... I found se8. Not a 7 though yet.
mmm.....me too
do you have ri5.12 Zoom- you would find that useful
yes there it is. Now to think of a clue...
no lynx...no such luck...rs and s s always stump me:)
you can watch a TV se**es + ***derella has lost her glass slipper.
great clue sprite, ty!!

bye Zooz
bye lynx
bye zoom :)
bye for now sprite:)
am kind of stuck. And not seeing any 9s. Have the feeling this small grid is a tough one.'
ca9 and ta9 --- where you cure leather and where you put food in tins :-)
the 2 9s are really similar - one is where they process leather, the other fish
hi Une
hey, lynxxx :-)
ok thank you lyn, will work on those :)
hi Une *hug*, thank you too
yw :-)
yay found them, must have been blind. Thanks again.
TY for that se8 too Sprite
yvw :)
stuck at 21...might look better in the morning. Goodnight Sprite & Une
bye lyn, have a nice evening
Geeze, working this grid is like playing Twister.
lol yes indeed
down to 17 and completely lost feeling in left leg and right arm ;)
*Waves smelling salts so that Sprite does not pass out due to poor circulation*
*blink* ah good, that is better. Now for right elbow on blue...

hiya uusue :)

moring everyone
hagd, UU
hi dawg :)
Hi Sprite!
are you good or are you well?
hmmm, i am both...i behave and am healthy! and you?
same :D And that is good to hear.
this is a twisty grid.
very. Fun but nasty, so to say.
down to 27 remaining, and stuck.
Havent been able to get on for a couple of days. Had to change to a little used email and slightly change my name. anyone else have problems?
hey, dawg . . . went to list at 27 :-)
Hi Unea!!
no problems he4, poodle
No problems for me Poodle
no not at all, Poodle
no prob for me either
I emailed dr god twice but no answer
on this grid what I DID notice is that I had to reenter a bunch of words that just disappeared . . .
Hi all! How are the Babblers today?
hey, focal :-)
hi focal
need the lone N, bottom of first column for nbt...any clues?
hi Focal! Having fun with the grid he4, 5 left.
what we called my grandmother
or a kind of goat
Maith maidin Focal
end of yellow fruit comes from another n
Dia Duit Molly!
go Sprite!
Like the plural of a servant that takes care of the children, but drop last letter
oh, got it. ty, Unea and Sprite
yvw
yw :-)
Or, as the kids say, na6 na6 boo boo. : P
hello dear ones
:-D
just found a 9!
go, dawg! (they're both very similar)
Focal, I am reminded of one of my favorite jokes. Q: How do you say "Good Morning" in Gaelic? A: Ready for a beer?
morning, trif :-)
morning, Trif
Ha ha Molly nice one!!
good one molly! when secondo was about 9 she delighted us with "an Irishman walks out of a bar. Hey, it could happen!"
Ha ha Trif! Love it!
yes, it was pretty darn funny....btw, focal, my nephew caused QUITE the stir on his summer vacation in ireland singing the "un focal du focal" song at full volume while skipping down the beach
apologies if my spelling is off....
Ahem, I was a bit tongue in cheek picking Focal as my Nom de Mot, it has its obvious meaning in English, it means WORD in Gaelic, and it is pronounced, ahem, fuckle.
And Trif, your spelling is ace!
yes, I know. hence my story...
ta!
I just KNEW knocking around ireland for 23 years would do me some good, eventually!
When and where, tell all!!
hey Triffles! *hugs*
hi all
I was married to an irishman for just under 20 years, am an irish citizen, as are all my children. we spent most of our time in terenure, wexford, and cavan, but I managed to hit 24 of the republic counties, and 4 of the NI ones, so not bad...
hi carlee
hi carlee
where are you, focal>
morning Babblers !
11 left and still no 8's!
hi Nanette
hi dawg.sprite... waking up this am is hard...its so cold out and my bed is sozy
hi nono
hi nono
argh yes, that kind of mornings
morning everyone!
Focal to your máthair :P
ha ha ha molly!
found me a nine! woot
triff the other 9 is very similar
my morning was quite spritian. Didn't have to get up early, just had to call school that my girl was ill... so woke up, called, couldn't go back to sleep. Then went to bathroom and noticed in passing my son had managed to oversleep again :)
oh dear, sprite! that does not sound like much fun at all!
ah, so it is nono, thank you!
morning molls..trifs
well he will have to learn some day, right? He overslept yesterday, had to be in school today at 8 am because of it... and overslept again.
<---- getting out of bed and making eggs and toast then off to school
does he get demerits or detentions for that? secondo does, and it's a PAIN - one instance of being late, and it's detention
good gal carlee
hagd all
{{babble group hug}}
byeeee carlee
bye carlee
hagd, carlee
lol no, they handle it very apt at school he4. Once late = next day in school at 8 am. Late again = 5 days in school at 8 am. Strike 3 = 5 days 'square roster' which means in school at 8 am, and stay until 17.oo
I do not wake him anymore. My reasoning is that he is better off learning it now, at school, than later at his job.
ugh. that must be a good deterrent! secondo is pretty excited that her school in oz doesn't start until 9, which is a full two HOURS later than school here!
how does he get to school, sprite?
i like the thinking of your school system, sprite
he suggested I'd call school that he wouldn't come today. *giggle* I had to tell him that I wanted him to face the consequences of his behaviour...
Wow Sprite, it's so nice to hear a parent say they actually put the responsibility on the kid. Good for you.
by bike, Trif. dawg: me too!
I try to where it is fitting, Molly. Thanks :)
oh, that is good. I have to drive my fry, so that requires me to be up when they are. ugh. oh well, it does provide babble time. I would much rather be working!!!
that is a very different situation indeed, Trif. Most dutch kids go to school by bike, we are such a small country.
this morning was your basic nightmare - I made the mistake of letting the puppy ride in the car with us, and he LEAPT out in the school driveway, ran all over the place, and poor tertiate had to leg it to rein him in and get him back in the car, and we all felt like idiots. won't do THAT again!
oh and I usually get up with them. Only now my girl is ill. And my son usually gets up and dressed, runs through the kitchen to grab breakfast and pack lunch, and runs out for his bike. He is not fond of getting up in time.
my sister got some sort of car restraint harness for her dogs
argh Trif :( Bad start.
sprite, my kids' school is less than three miles away, but the streets here are narrow, no sidewalks or bike lanes, and with all the stepfords driving their chrysler LeBehemoths while chatting on their phones, it's deadly to even consider biking or walking. it's a real shame
Trif, Trif...don't two kids add enough chaos to the car without adding the dog?
um...two dogs. but at least one acts like a true gentleman. that other one? LOONYH
loony, even
we are very lucky he4, good roads and bicycle paths all over the place.
tada!! finito!!
jealous sprite! I have often thought of driving to work, but I am sure I would die on the way there
wtg dawg! I have 2 left... 6s both, sigh.
holland is mostly a great place to live. I realise again that I don't count my blessings enough!
last one...
ze6 is ze + end of yellow fruit (ba****)
that was my missing one! Thanks dawg :D Fireflies!
whooooo hooooooo sprite!!
wtg Sprite
huzzah for sprite and lbd!
bbl, must send hubs off to work
how on earth did you guess, dawg
Hursh, I think car restraints for dogs is a good idea. I don't know how people drive safely with dogs crawling all over the car.
after one of her dogs fell out the window (was unharmed) she thought so, anyway!
I saw a dog go out the window once. It scared me to death. Luckily it was not hurt.
mine sit still while the car is moving! they are quite good about that, and indy had never just JUMPED out the door before. scared us all!
since i have cats, they just go in crates.
Hi Trif, I'm back, sorry I got called away... I am in Dublin, on the Northside in Artane. So your kids must feel very Irish if they grew up here? Are you back in the US long now?
ca6/24 is a really random french word to count for english.
And this surprises you because? Enable is so fickle that way.
yes, we are. got royally dumped a couple of years ago, and we mostly lived in the US the whole time, just doing summers and christmas holidays in irleand, so it's good
i didn't say it surprised me, i just commented. :)
Well a royal dumping is never good, hope all is OK now.
with the fun plural as well, hurshy
yep
its pretty much focaled, focal
Well you sound as if you are making the best of it, that is what we all have to do. We cannot always control what life throws at us, the only choice we have is how we deal with it. x x
the poor chog has had to listen to me moan for years, so i am trying to be good. here's the 25 second version - he moved out without telling me why, and refused to work on our marriage in any sort of real way. After our divorce was final, (and I got NOTHING, but the house) he took the kids out to dinner, told them he was gay, and then sent them home to tell me. so, there you go
apologies to all.....
OMG, what a nightmare, what an a@@hole, fair play to you for picking yourself up after that. <warm hug>
no apologies necessary!
thanks focal. life goes on, though it absolutely did not feel like it would, there for a while
yes, ireland could do us all a big favor and take him back....
What can I say. . . ? I guess it's good that he's around for the kids?
S's are hard.
um, nope. but whatever. let's move on. I can't find an 8, has anyone had any luck?
yes one is ve8, a pl w/o a singular, somewhat along the lines of the 9's
ooh, thanks hurshy! well done you!
well i had to try SOMETHING for the v
se8/40 ... might be thought of as building from se4/4
that's the bottom row grey for me
ooh help me with the other v's? i have a 4 and the 8 but not the other two
... while it doesn't mean this ... think of a word mi
ty dos got it!
... think of a word meaning a calm song
huh? I have the other v's, but I dont'
get the connection?
I need to go to the school pick up, catch y'all later. Only 27 of 99, grid is trickier than at first glance. Slán :)
i would like help with the other v's. dos clued se8. there is no connection.
slan slan focal - btw, hearing them say that on teletubbies in gaelic was just about my fave thing EVER
... ve 6/7 ... a thin layer of expensive wood laid on a thicker piece of less expensive wood to make it look richer
ah, silly me, ty!
oh, my bad, sorry....the other v's describe fake white teeth, or the thin skin on wood furniture
good morning everyone:)
morning baconman
... morning
are there any s7?
morning crossy!
... se + ri5
I put lots of extra effort into my breakfast today, in your honor!
ty again dos
what did you make?
oatmeal with flax seeds, applesauce, a touch of cinnamon and a banana chaser....i'm needing to lose some weight, and following a clean eating plan
i would say so! all will go right through and not even touch the sides! lol
the spoon your eating it with has more fat:)
i need 3 S, 3 H, 3 I, 1 C, and 1 R.
lol....the flax seeds are supposed to be the protein, and I am trying to reduce artificial anything
if you saw how much weight I have gained over the fall, you would understand
but good for you if you can manage it.so trif is gonna be a slim hottie eh? :)
hey you can be slim without being hot - like me!
trif would mostly just like to fit into her work clothes....
got the C!
got the R!
I can't find the se word clued earlier....mostly because I don't have the right r 5, I think
list time.
... ri5/12
ri5 is a poison.
ty hursh
and done!
yaa for hurshy!
Good morning, all. I'm bummed. Craigslist has been hacked.
howdy judi
a little on the small side but nicer than yesterday - craigslist hacked?! what has happened as a result?
judi, are you sure they just aren't shut down in protest>
craigslist..i have heard of that site i think in the news once...got busted for selling hookers or something as i recall
google and wikipedia have voluntarily shut down today, due to the SOPA legislation
Oh, it's some political nonsense. Well, that could be the case, Trif. They've jumped on the Wiki bandwagon
what's the SOPA legislation, the one that censors the web?
crossys views on the bill in question can be found in yesterdays chog history:(
yes, but not just that, hurshy
google seems to be running.
I dont' pretend to understand all the intracacies
big brother will be watching you
aren't they already?
sorry, didn't mean to post that before I figured out how to spell that word....so sorry
Phffth. Big brother must be awfully bored if he's watching me. *flips bird to big brother*
....waiting for judi's update describing black cars pulling up outside house....
not like this hurshy..the fbi or your version there will be able to stroll into you internet service provider and at a whim demand to see every site you have ever been on
*shades drawn, booby traps set, escape pod ready for launch*

it would be FBI, i'm only a wannabe brit.
whoof. nbs at last!
"Spooks" is the international term, I believe.
... careful ... MI5 might be listening
but i vented enough about it yesterday and will be quiet today
I thought it had more to do with not being able to post links, claiming some sort of intellectual property infringement of some sort?
it's okay crossy - i was moaning about my ex later, so perhaps today is a day when we can re-air grievances?
i'm pretty sure i think it's bad legislation too. :)
i posted the bill number in question in yesterdays chog, you can look it up and give it a read
sorry, earlier. what is with me, and the inability to find words today? what was IN that oatmeal?
i THINK it is bill 3261..but not sure right now

lol hurshy. apparently it has wiped out my ability to type
not to worry i am very good at readying as well as typing typneese

And the ancho chile is still not recognized. I demand equality for all peppers!

hear! hear!!
snap crossy!
;)
I can't grow peppers in my garden...such a pity, as well all love them
Was yesterday the worst grid ever or what?
.!!
today's is giving me grief as well, hego!
yes, I'm beginning to see that.
sigh....love thinking about my garden in the winter...planning out when to start, what to try next year, what to rearrange...such a nice way to spend time sitting by the fire
why can't you grow peppers?
not sure yet. wrong ph in the soil is my guess. will try them in containers next season, me thinks, and see if they do better in that soil
interesting
MAJOR dumpster dive score recently, did I tell you? we share our office building with a commercial property management company, and at the end of teh fall they threw out two HUGE, perfectly good planters, with the azaleas still in them! scooped those right up!
I love a good dumpster dive....not too proud to admit it!
congrats!
that's no way to treat an azalea!
I know, right? shameful!
Trif - you can get a soil sample analyzed by your local cooperative extension. Probably located at one of the local colleges. Most of them do it for free. They'll tell you what you need to add or feed or remove.
should be criminal offence.
thanks judi! will try to remember that. there aren't any colleges near here, but I think we have mail in available to us
their folly was my happy gain, hego!
don't they have soil testing kits at the garden center?
Yes. You could probably go online and request a sample kit.
BRB.
probably, i have to really ramp up my gardening efforts next year. It got ahead of me last year, and I have a lot of reclaiming and reorganizing to do come spring
morning ladies & gents Had to ask
hi hoot
Trif , can you grow tomatoes?
yes, but I have to be careful to pinch back suckers
zucchini and cukes are my most successful veggies
Well the tomatoes grow the peppers should so it's prob not the soil
pinching suckers is ok - try planting them if you have room
see, that's what I wondered as well, hoot, so thank you! I am not sure what it is....maybe I had them in the wrong spot or something...will move things around next year and see how it goes
Can't grow anything her except weeds
this is when I really miss my chickens. that poop was GOLD in the garden, except for in the potato area. no love for the chicken manure there!
many weeds are quite lovely, hootowl
I'm envious. You obviosly have room and decent soil
wahoo! my current favorite song just came on!
ah, an optimist.
That is the eternal optimist. Someone who considers chicken shit gold.
Not when your trying to grow veggies. And you'd really have to see this mess to believe it!
lol Molly
I highly recommend containers, hoot
Kitchen compost works wonders as well. Turn your trash into wormy gold.
it is molly. it seriously is! best manure you can find
It is molls - very high nitrogen content. Has to sit a while to get rid of the ammonia thou
Tried that too. nope
do that too, judi. actually, the kids and I were just speaking of this - we have the most people living in one house on our street, and we put out the least trash. :)
hate it here and the soil knows
We are inundated with mushroom soil around here. Unless you know someone who has livestock, it's about the only soil supplement available.
not great except for fill. Mushrooms deplete soil
judi, I understood that delaware had an abundance of chickens, so there must be some good poultry poo around? it definitely needs to season, that is true!
That's true, hoot. That's why we use our own compost. We don't bother with a veggie garden. There are too many deer and rabbits living around us. We would only be feeding them. F*ucking fauna, anyway!
lol judi....there are ways around deer!
Never had that problem but I can understand the feelings
I like our deer, but I could have done with out them eating all my tulips, that is true. well, that and the lyme disease. that sucks
Sadly, we really don't have the time to devote to gardening. We plant flowers and pluck weeds.
yes, that is true. I live in the woods, so I spend an even amount of time getting the things I want to grow growing, and holding the rest of it back, so it won't take over!
Maybe you can way lay them with a bale of hay>
We have to start at scratch with the compost pile in the spring. The neighbor obliterated in the fall. Long story. Anyway, I will be planting lots of forsythia on our property line in the spring.
almost anchor
mix in a few hollies if it's that way
Just might, hoot. Although, forsythia is cheaper and grows like weeds. Lots of coverage for not much $$.
here is video I made ages ago of me and tertiare running around in our yard after a flood - you can get a sense of where I live anyway, if you are remotely interested....
http://tinyurl.com/7wobprm
Plus, it's a little more neighborly than posting "no trespassing signs".
I have rose of Sharons. they bloom all summer. great!
forsythia roots easily. Can you get cuttings from other neighbors. Will start in water
I like those too, hego. But it's really shady where I'll be planting. I think those like full sun.
right Judi
Good Morning Everybody. Judi; we use kitchen compost and shredded paper and put it in our nearly empty compost bin all winter. Come spring, we add a bottle of beer (not lite) and some sugar and a little ammonia and it takes off like crazy.
I could use cuttings from my existing forsythia, but I want to make an obvious and immediate border.
Hi Nef
some recipe Nef. lol
Ammonia bad! Keep those chemicals out of the compost.
composting produses ammonia
ammonia is antural and contains nitrogen
natural rather
now that I watch that video again, it really is mostly my side yard, and where the flower gardens are, not the vegetable ones. oh well
Doesn't the sugar and beer make it stinky? Also, attract flies and maggots?
well I found out in aggie school that me and ammonia don't get along
It works. DH has been doing this for years (I'm not sure of the ratio, but can find out). Since we're in MN and the winters normally can be very cold; sometimes compost can be pretty dormant (or dead) during the winter
Ah. An accelerator mix. We don't need that here. Mild winters & very warm summers.
-----> jealous of judi, though I suppose I can hardly complain about my winter thus far
One of my neighbors has started a chain saw! bbl
does the 9 build from the 6?
wind and lake effect snow are howling off the water today and it is minus 16:(
the ammonia is the nitrogen; it takes less than a cup of it for the compost (I think only a few tsps. actually); and you stirr the beer and sugar and ammonia all together and pour it into the compost and stir in fresh grass clippings, any winter yard trash (old leaves, etc.) and the kitchen and paper and mix it all up very well. We don't have a problem with flies or maggots or critters in the compost
sounds delicious.
Good mornimg
howdy bob
Hi Bob and Crossy
It's like compost beer! Mmmm. Green beer.

*first half of the french negative
good morning, everyone :)
Most of the long ones have the same endings, so they can be monkeyed.
Ooh...just clicked on the definition for the ve. It means gratifications of sexual desires. How has this word gone into disuse??
lol, jan
cause it cannot be found! lol

Maybe it has a negative connotation. That would explain its decline in usage in the modern world. ;-)

Same root no doubt, Molly.

Focal is on the victory path
morning all! catching my breath between classes...
hello sue
Woo hoo!! And who cares if there's no dinner cooked!! (Well, actually, there WILL be complaints!)
hi, wv, focal, molly!
Morning Sue. No classes for me today--called off due to snow!
Focal, Focal, the answer to "What's for dinner?" is..."whatever you're cooking"
ha,, we almost never cancel classes due to weather
the university rarely calls off classes, but the public schools do cancel or have 2 hour delays
Ha Moll, I'll try that on my 11-year-olds!
That used to be true for our uni, too, but a few years ago we had a storm in which a couple of faculty were badly hurt in a rollover of an SUV.
Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are a perfectly nutritious meal Focal.
never too early to teach them to cook - i had a one pot meal that both the boys learned to cook and the one still loves to make it (he's now 38)
Seems that the decision to cancel or not was made by the provost who lived within walking distance. So he didn't understand the road situation that most faculty staff and students faced.
So true, but that's what they got for lunch! This victory has no been easily won!
Jan, I am so glad to hear that your university takes bad weather seriously. If more places would close due to bad weather, there would be less accidents from it.
I remember walking to school when it was -20 out and my car didn't start, classes were on so I went
True enough. I think having a couple of seriously hurt law profs got their attention though...
we have a lot of commuter students (and faculty) so all weather pronouncements are prefaced by a lot of legalese saying you should make your own decisions
ah, law profs, that would do it!
se 7, please?
When the state patrol says "only essential travel should be attempted" it's interesting how many universities think, "Classes, yes, that's essential."
Alas, people have no sense and will go out in bad weather when common sense says the safe thing to do is stay home.
Hi All
Sorry nan, still haven't got it. Sneaked out and had a spot of coffee instead of monkey-typing.

You can always identify a Babbler. They're the ones saying, "Excuse me, how many hwan in a dollar?" or " I seem to have misplaced by etui."
: D
Jan is it snowing there?
Yes, much not very hard at the moment. It's supposed to taper completely to flurries within an hour or so.
I have peeps in Seattle
That didn't come out right. I'm listening to the radio and somehow the 'but" incorporated the radio guy's "much"!
Kitsap peninsula.
I think Kitsap has gotten it worse than the city and the north sound.
I thought you meant not much
uh oh
they will be at home for awhile.
crossy left his etui on the cwms
Things should get better quickly though. It's supposed to be cold through tomorrow, with a possibility of a bit more snow. Then Friday it warms into the forties with rain to wash away the ice and snow.
hi Crossy dear
that's good Jan
Kitsap has varied conditions due to the straits and the rain shadow.
howdy hego
we got 6 inches of snow night before last, got 6 inches last nigh, and am quite sure we will get 6 inches tonight:(
as long as you know where your etui is, that's all that counts, Love.
i shall have to dig for it now:)
I thought it was buried by now. lol
Hi crossy! You Canadians handle wintry weather so much better than we do. Seattle has four snowplows for the whole city!
snap again
Personally, I'm not much better prepared. I had to shovel off my front steps with a plastic dustpan. I really should get a snow shovel...
we must have the equipment to be sure!
that's a funny picture.
do they even sell snow shovels there, Jan?
Sure! They get tons of snow in the mountains. One winter the ranger station at Paradise on Mount Rainier measured 23 feet of snow on the ground!
No, I meant in the city.
when we lived up north a bit further we used to have those catapillar road graders you see spreading dirt on side roads? well they were equipped with auger/blowers on the front and chould fire snow a distance of 20 feet through the air.the banks on the side of the road used to be within 4 feet of the top of the telephone poles.my gomonther used to give us heck as kids cause we used to hack steps into the snow banks and perch on top of the poles and jump off with a bit of card board to slide down with
Seattle gets snowfalls every now and again. One year we got two feet of wet snow. The corrugated metal roofing over a marina collapsed, sending hundreds of boats to the bottom of the sound. You could hear the anguished cries of the yaching set for miles around!
godmother*
whoo hoo!! I want one of those, Crossy.
hi crossy-just sitting here trying to figure out whether I can get down the driveway, which is essentially a very long luge run.
gget a luge Eva
or become a penguin
mm.pop it in neutral and let it coastthen as you hit the bottom slam it into first and snap it a nice 45 degrees
in reality waiting for the sander to come
that's why I did it.
Doesn't everyone in Vermont have a state-issued toboggan?
We had 31 inches last December. Waiting for the plows became our statewide passtime.
the problem is we don't have the usual big snowbanks on either side of the driveway. usually I can play pinball with the car-put it in neutral, as you sugegsted, and bounce of either side. Stopping at the bottom is a bit of a trick. Getting back up, however, even getting off the road, looks like a non-starter.
no-but we have state issued crampons for or boots
i hope we get it like last year, snow right up to the side windows of the car.i have 600 dollars worth of new winter tyres on my car and they had better get some use!
Waiting a bit beats meeting your local tow truck operator.
crampons?
yak trax? basically studded snow tires for your shoes
tire chains? lol
I bought a set of those crampon-like thingees for boots at Costco. Have yet to crack them out though.
I don't go anywhere without them. Have taken too many bad falls.
those slip on crampons are very handy
Here we use them in the early summer for mountain hiking. Along with an iceax to break your fall into crevasses.
Oh my! I am feeling cold just reading the chog. I feel so so sorry for you snowed-up folks. I hate hate hate snow!
in seattle? creavasses?
(((( Soodle))))
i do not run into too many crevasses tween here and work:)
Hi ((((Hego))). Your icon is very appropriate!
I actually love snow. But not ice!
We haven't had snow in CT all season, except for the freak Halloween storm which left the state without power for a week
Not in town, but in the mountains. If you don't mountain hike in Seattle, people look at you funny.
howdy soodles:)
us too Bichon
ty Soodle
Hey Crossy, Bichon, Eva, Jan et al :-)
I'm with you Eva. Ice has no redeeming qualities. My least favorite winter weather is freezing rain. Followed closely by 'wintry mix"
had a bit of a scare last week heading into town. The road surface was just changing from snow to ice and I couldn't stop at the stop sign...luckily was no one coming on the crossroad-did a 270 skid, but avoided the ditches and then just headed home.
Of course, now I'm in CA, where it is unseasonably cold, low 30's at night
harrowing
Twenty six days till pitichers and catchers report to spring training. That cheers me up.
lol jan..."wintry mix" another word for frozen hell
do you have ABS Eva?
no
Even with ABS, there's no defense against ice on the road. Or skating rink, as it becomes
<---Loves her Yak Traxx
but have been driving in the north for my whole life so my foot is conditioned not to slam on the brakes.
<---Loves Jan for mentioning Spring Training
I have to check out those crampons for hubby
Ah, spring anything.
Spring training is the happiest time of the year. It's a reminder of the promise of warmth, and whatever your team is, it's still tied for first place!
hi soodle!
Daffodils are blooming profusely here, after one of the mildest winters on record. All the critters are coming out of hibernation.... Its a funny old world!
if I start thinking of spring now I'll have a breakdown in March when I realize it is still way far away. I just try to hibernate
Hope the flowers and critters aren't being suckered into coming out too early.
I feel so much more secure with ABS, but I've never been driving really fast and have to stop quickly. Usually with ice, I crawl along
Thats the big worry, Jan. :-(
Still way far away? Spring starts March 21st.
But sugaring will start for Vermont in the next few weeks. And when sugaring starts, snow melt cannot be all that far away.
Ah.... Ireland
I remember as a child drinking the ice cold sap out of buckets on the way to school. So naughty...
Nowadays I guess you can't do that. The sap is collected by tube, away from the naughty reach of children.
sugaring in a few weeks? Where? but on the other hand, these days anything is possible, because the temp is fluctuating so wildly. Was minus 17 the other morning, now is in the 20's.
need a break bbl.
I think sugaring starts in mid February, or at least that's my recollection from childhood. Once it gets above freezing during the day but below freezing at night is ideal. Once it gets into the forties, the sap has flavors in it that aren't ideal for syrup, so sigaring has to stop.
Since I don't sugar I can't swear to it and you may be right, but I think my neighbors don't usually start until March, but I saw a headline the other days about some people beginning early this year. Did you grow up around here jan?
I lived in a lot of places in New England, including rural Western Massachusetts (Shelburne Falls, Colrain, and Williamstown) and Brattleboro in Vermont.
hey all! jan, we've really gotten hit in the south sound -- more than a foot since last night!
A friend outside Olympia emailed me to say they have 15 inches. Has it stopped yet stidmama?
no, still coming down in little icy flakes! but I just checked and they are predicting icy rain soon.
I lived in Western MAss for 15 year-in W. Cummington, which is one of the hill towns between Northampton and Pittsfield. I worked in Greenfield, so drove through Shelburne Falls almost every morning. Was cCuskers market there when you were?
I had an uncle that used to tap his maples. His rule of thumb was 35-25 (thirty five in the day, 25 at night) for the best sugar conditions.
Don't remember Cuskers Market--I lived there in the late fifties and early sixties. I remember walking across the Bridge of Flowers and thinking it was the most beautiful place in the world, though.
My brother still lives in Greenfield, near the junction of 5 and 10. That
That's a joke nobody gets anymore
the Bridge of Flowers was gorgeous. No, McCuskers opened in the 70's. You probably wouldn't recognize Shelburne now.
Oh, Stidmama! I hope they are wrong--icy rain on top of snow is the worst!
You're right, I'm sure it isn't the sleepy rural hamlet of my youth
Well, if you have the snow underneath, it will crunch and you can still get some traction
I think it's still pretty sleepy-for good and for bad, that part of the state has had a hard time economically. greenfield has so often been on the verge of a "rennaissance" and somehow it never quite happens.
The last time I was there, there were a few pretty good semi-trendy restaurants in downtown Greenfield. But I was there to bury my mother, so I wasn't paying that much attention.
sorry to her that jan. The outer world seems pretty unreal and irrelevant at those times
How did you end up in Ireland?
The saddest part for me was that for many years she and my dad lived away from New England and my mother often wished that they would move back. By the time she did, she was pretty far gone with ALzheimers and didn't know she'd gone 'home.
my mother was also demented for some time before she died.
Hard to lose a loved one twice, once to the disease and once eventually in death.
I think it is Soodle who is Irish.
I think I killed the chog. So sorry.
I think I killed the chog. So sorry.
Back to regularly scheduled Babble chat..
I'm down to three (two 5's and a 6) an h, an r and an s. Should I break down and list? Keep plugging away? Plead for random clues?
I finish without a list maybe three or four times a year. It's a strange thing to worry about, isn't it? And even if I do finish listlessly, I always benefit from clues dropped in the chat.
I have 27 to go.
do you have se6/18?
Go m9f9l!
I also have an si6/18
I don't have any h6
I have a se/6/18 and an si/6/18. So does that mean my extra s is likely a 5?
I don't have all the s so I don't know!LOL
Nor I on the h's.
I figured if I had a 6 you didn't, it would at least narrow things down!
I only have one r6
since it has a 7, I figure you have it
Me too on the r's. So I think we've positively established that the 6 could be any one of them
yep!
a lot of help I was
LOL
This is the situation that makes me think that I should list. It's true that somebody with fireworks could tell me which one to look for. But how is that really different than listing? And why should I care one way or the other. Sometimes I think Babble has made me silly.
I agree.
I mean I agree that getting it from someone is same as listing. not that you're silly.
hmm I was sure I had both 8 last night.
hmm I was sure I had both 8 last night.
I think I agree that Babble has probably made me silly. But not in a bad way. ;-)
yes. exactly!
Could you tell me what the 8 are?
Well I got another r/5, so the lone six is either an s or an h.
There's an se and a ve
wtg!
ah yes. thanks
And it's confirmed--it's an se. One that I thought I'd already entered. So now down to 1, an h/5
oh I hate it when that happens
I have 4 of those
I think I sometimes mistype and think I've entered a word but due to the typo it doesn't enter. And if you see my chog entries you'll know my typing is highly erratic.
I've got 6 h/5's but obviously I'm missing one.
It's off the lower h, right?
Yes, the middle one.
hi! wow - got halfway and nbt really fast today....but I assume the wall looms ahead
It won't take hanch no matter how often my monkeys insist on it.
Nor hanta, the mouse-borne virus.
Hanch I can forgive, since it isn't a word. But hanta's absence is annoying.
The word's absence, that is, not the virus. Its absence is gratifying.
I find it gratifying not to have hantavirus, and I'm not all that annoyed at the absence of the word.
now the absence of the bewitched grandmother is more annoying to me
You might be if you were down to a single word, a five letter h one.
ouch
hey all, had phone call.
Welcome back stid1
may I offer one? or are you not accepting help?
I accept all offers of help, Harry.
do you have the unit of frequency (also car rental co.)?
oohh. i didn't have the egg crackihg one
hi stid!
oh!
I didn't have that one, thanks Harry
yw :)
oh! what?
Have those. I have the egg cracking sound, the legatees, the plural present place, the frequency unit, the employer, the present tense of what that person does.
I thought for a sec that you were jan, and that you found your word :)
oh!
And now...the hair dye! And fireworks

my kids love to read.
were they "early" readers?
got another! 23!
not especially, m9. 4 - 5 yo

My second daughter would have been considered a 'late' reader. And that would have been hard for her at school.
That's early Harry
and two more!
Go go go!
gogo lynx! I had those already :)
But since she was able to come at it at her own pace when she was ready, it was no big deal. She read at 8
good onya m9 for homeschooling
my kids won't sit still and listen to me for that long.
oh.. it's not about them listening to me. It's about me listening to them!LOL

today my mother was supposed to be released from the nursing home after 19 months..not happening because the state RN still has to give approval
ri5/12 is a poison gas

Wow West, you sure have had troubles getting Mom sprung.

Yay cos !!
YAY, cos!!! WTG!!! (if you're still around). I'm having trouble with either my server or just the internet. I had a bunch of words here earlier (about 20-25), now they are all gone after several crashes on browsers today. Is this related to my server; or the whole SOPA/PIPA thing? (Maybe I should ask if anyone else is having problems too?)
hi nef not having problems here just trying to find words that don't exist
LOL! Well, I have that problem too! :-) I've been trying to play Words wtih Friends also and that hasn't been the least bit stable today either for me
do you play that on your phone?
nope; I'm too old-fashioned for one of those fancy ones; I think my phone is 5 years old and "it ain't broke; so why fix it?" (as they used to say)
I agree. My husband likes to upgrade every 5 minutes so I get his hand-me-downs.
I must admit I do like the iPhone even though I didn't want it
my daughter gets her friends hand-me-down phones; and they are always dropping calls.
that's probably the server..lots of people have trouble with AT&T
<--Sits in the old phone section with Nef
I did order a little android iPad thing the other day. I can't remember what it is (haven't received it yet); but am looking forward to playing with that
we have T Mobile
if I had my way we'd still have one phone with a dial
my computer server is Comcast (or is it X-finity now?) and they have been less than helpful today
but I do like this new fangled thing called the internet
Nef how is your daughter making out in her own place?
yeah, me too; just not today when it isn't working well for me
she's doing well from what I know. I'm giving her space; so if she doesn't call, I figure that's a good thing
that's probably best what are you doing with the room she fixed up with all the wiring for the TV?
had fixed I should say
I'm going to make popcorn for my hard working husband..bbs
I haven't dealt with it yet. Too many other things to worry about first right now.
<--Still owns a phone with a dial, that rings!
we don't have a dial phone, but I have 3 of the older push button corded phones that we do use.
I use my rotary when the power goes out. The cordless phone we use with the land line depends on electricity. The rotary plugs right into the phone line.
DH wanders off with the cordless and then we both look at each other and wonder where the phone is. The wall phone and the phones in the bedrooms come in handy then
Often when our power goes out it's because of a bad storm and the cell towers are not working.
(we have a total of 3 cordless phones; so why they can all disappear, I don't know
3 corded and 3 cordless phones; I never thought about that before. :-) And I have my cell phone; but DH can't remember how to use one so he doesn't have one. I tried to get him to use just the speed dial and he just can't get it
BBS, I need to go switch the loads of laundry around
hi all
(((Lilliann))
((molly)) i was about to leave as i didn't think anyone like me :(
howdy y'all
how are you hin?
Who wouldn't like you Lilliann? Hi Kevin.
hi yad
mmm, on here could be a few
Doing well Lilliann. Counting down the days until Spring. How are you?
61 days!!!!
good thanks. i finished the grid this morning and got bored so i came on here to chat with friends and see if anyone needed help not that i'm a good cluer!! lol i can't wait for spring either
my god really?
Yes, milder days are close at hand. Hooray!
i can't believe how fast christmas and new year has just flown by!!
well, we are getting colder apparently
The holidays went by pretty fast for me this year too. I think that is because I just decided to drop the stress and keep things simple.
good for you, there's no point in getting stressed and worrying about things unless you really need to
One of my favorite quotes lately is "Worry is a misuse of your imagination"
i've learnt that you can't control destiny. whatever is going to happen will, so why get hung up and stressed about it. live one day at a time and enjoy each day...not always easy...but do what you can
i love that quote molly, i'll have to write it down so i don't forget it
I agree Lilliann. It's the whole "simplicity" thing.
exactly...some people worry about every little thing...i was married to a man that worried about everything and couldn't believe that i wasn't the same!! well, i'm not bothered if it is going to rain, because there was nothing i could do about it!1
life is what you make it! enjoy it why you can and have fun
Hey Lilliann & Molls :-)
One thing I have decided over the past few years is that I'm done with people who are all about drama. What a drain they are on your spirit.
hi soodle, how are you? long time no see :)
I was just thinking the very same thing, Lillann. I am good! And you?
Hi Soodle.
good thanks hin, glad to be back amongst friends and test my brain, especially today!!! lol
And negative people, Molly. I avoid negative people like the plague. I reckon negativity is contagious!!
Its lovely to see both of you!
i agree molly, i had nearly 9 years of it. i just don't understand the point in worrying...if it's going to happen it will!! the more you worry the more you're going to get stressed and ill
and you soodle
And...there is a theory...that I believe in...that says you attract what you think about. So if you fill your mind with what you are "afraid will happen" those things will find you, because they think you are trying to "attract" them.
and molly....i am so afraid of money
So, Ms Molly, could your theory explain how I still havent won the lottery??? I constantly think about what I am going to do when I win it, all in vain to date....
that's like dreams!
<----- said Mizz Anti-Negativity!!!
so you're afraid of winning the lottery ren??
we have a saying in the make-up department - "this is make-up" leave the drama outside"
I'm also a bit worried about that lone N in the bottom left hand corner. Could anybody ease my worries in that regard?
(I'm looking for a clue....)
tee hee lil...i have never played the lottery
What you call a goat or a child caretaker
i gathered that soodle..i'm looking now :)
molly beat me to it
i wish i'd never started ren. very rarely win a tenner
Soodle, I know what you mean. I have every "thought of intention" about what I wish for. So far I have not manifested those things. But I will keep on trying.
And that Positively deserves a fish-slap. Thanks ladies :-)
wet fish slap on it's way soodle :)
*Thinks about visiting Soodle Abbey when Soodle becomes the richest woman in Ireland*
Soodle Manor...Soodle Estate...Soodle Acres...
molly, i actually understand andagree with what you said earlier
There will be a welcome on the (gold-plated) mat for my friend Molly!
i love your saying ren
It's called The Law Of Attraction, Lilliann and I am still trying to master it completely.
Hiya Ren, how are you doing today?
thanks lil - haven't seen you in a long time - my fault i'm sure - i haven't been around the chog
well, then we should all think about good things and hopefully they will all happen!!
doing good molly
no ren, i've not been here for months, only started again a few days ago
And I am Molly's apprentice, Lilliane. Hello Renfield, I don't think I ever came across you before.
well - we be on the same page then lil
Hi again. I'm always thinking about good stuff happening; it does; but sometimes it doesn't look or feel like it's the good stuff at times
Hiya Nef, and you are absolutely right. (Humming Unanswered Prayers....)
hey soodle - hey nef
as far as winning the lottery; I guess I'd have to buy a ticket first! ;-)
good grief - 2 9's!!!!
arrrr -- good to see ye, ren
no place for me on the gold plated mat then soodle? :(
hi all
hi nef
hi jilli
it's good to see you rennie. And it's great to see you jilli! How are you doing?
hey jilli -
Lilliann...... its going to be an uber-mat. Room for all!! :-)
yay -- got the ca9!
Hello Jilli :-)
ooh, me too, jilli, thanks for letting me know it was there!
Doing ok, nef -- snowed in today but coping just fine with no Home Support
And not to skip anyone; Hi to lil, soodle, and Molly again too! :-)
and hi all!
hey u2
Hi sue! I just friended you on FB yesterday (in case you were wondering who I was
hi sue
oh, ok, nef :-)
that's good then soodle :)
hi sue
no home support?
you should look at all my pictures from Israel, then!
*Blesses the room and sends sparkly, LET GOOD THINGS HAPPEN thoughts in everyone's direction*
yay jilli!
Are you up and about on your own; or do you get some house work help?
I will, sue.
nef, I'm still in the wheelchair
i'm going googly eyed now with the chat as it'sgoing too fast!! *)
My local pub has a savings/gambling club. Everybody (about 120 people) puts in €20 per week. €15 is saved, and the remaining fiver is gambled on horses or lottery. Approx €2,500 was spent on the lottery in 2011, and we won €72.00.
that's what I expected, jilli. And that's why I was surprised you don't have home support. Do you have a pretty accessible home?
sounds about right, soodle. not great odds on the lottery.
soodle -- I didn't realise Ireland was using euros -- I guess that's just the South?
(phone call, BRB)
Yes Jilli, we use euros. 40 miles across the border they use sterling. Its daft!
Nef, I usually have Home Support but today we're snowed in so they couldn't get here safely. And yes, my house is all on one floor.
Are you in much pain, Jilli?
mmm, not so good then soodle:( but i can't win nowt either! :(
We fared a whole lot better on the horses ;-). Loads of stud farms round here, and we get tips straight from the proverbial horses mouths!!
jilli, i've missed so much not being here, so why are you in a wheelchair at the moment?
you'll have to give me some then soodle and i'll pass them on to my fil :)
No pain really, soodle -- just not allowed to put any weight on that foot for 6 weeks -- which is almost up. Then I don't know what I'll be allowed to do. I see the surgeon on Feb 2 for x-rays. Meanwhile I am doing regular physio exercises to get mobility back in the foot and leg.
Was it your talus you broke?
lil, I broke my ankle rather badly on Dec 9 -- needed surgery and a hospital stay.
Broke tibia and fibula, dislocated the foot and did some ligament damage. Skin is like tissue paper so there's still some healing of it to do.
aww, i'm sorry to hear that jilli and wish you a really speedy recovery.x in the meantime we can have wheelchair races until you walk again which will happen
Ouch. that's awful.
Two screws and a pin are holding it all together now. Bones are osteoporotic so the surgeon said it was like putting screws into an egg.
Wow, Jilli, that was serious damage. Sending healing thoughts and prayers.
Hi jilli and soodle. Just starting. Snowy wonderland here. 14 inches of the white fluff. Took my crosscountry skies out and found on the powder it was like submarine skies.
Thanks, guys. I'm getting better at wheeling but my house has rather thick carpeting which slows me down, lil -- so you win the race, I'm sure.
sorry jilli, you've been through the mill, but i know you will get through it and sending big hugs
Hello ((((Gmere)))). You are painting a lovely picture. :-)
Wow, gmere! I was wondering about your snow -- we didn't get nearly so much.
screws into an egg? Thanks, doc.
<---Imagining Jilli & Lil like the car-racing scene in 'Grease'. Can I be the starting lady, please?
gosh jilli, i knew you were injured - i did not know tho how badly - praying you mend
Soodle -- I love your icon!
hi gmere
Yup Jilli... the treasure at the end of the rainbow!
and kap
I have a lot of respect for those who are permanently wheelchair bound.
We will have to let them fight it out to decide who is "Greased Lightning".
Soodle, Patrick Taylor would agree with you, but only in Ireland. He says the Guinness over here isn't anything like the same.
yes you can start the race soodle's but you're nowt like her...she was rough!!
I broke my ankle in 1978 (obviously before I was born, cos I'm not THAT old), and it was a long slow process...
You know he named O'Reilly's dog Arthur Guinness, don't you?
i'll let jilli be grease lightning as everyhting she has had to go through lately she deserves to do well when she comes out the other end.x
My ankle is not the boss of me. I will make it behave.
Actually Soodle and Rizzo share some traits. : P
I heard that, Jilli. And when Mr Obama was here in May, he had a pint, and accused us of keeping the best stuff for ourselves.
Aww, lil -- you deserve the prize for niceness.
Point of order, Molly.... Rizzo didn't start the race. It was Kinickie's (sp?) floozie!
You mean Mr. O'Bama, don't you, soodle?
Oops, sorry. I forgot the apostrophe. Mae culpa.
I'm jealous of the Obama's. They got Colm Di Rìs pottery when they were in Ireland.
i meant it jilli :)
Thanks, lil, but I'm usre you've been through more as have many oothers.
Begging your Soodle's pardon. I am not a Grease aficionado.
Oops -- phone.
Ah Grease! Ah, the summer of 1977.... (again, long before I was born), but the regression therapy helps.... LOL
I ordained Michelle O'bama (now known as Michelle Mary Margaret O'bama) an honorary Irish woman when she arranged for the White House fountain to be dyed green for St. Patrick's Day. That was too cool.
after being in a wheelchair for years, i know how you feel jilli.one day you can walk and the next you can't, and the not knowing is the worst because you want to get back to how you were before, but as i have learnt i can still enjoy my life doing different things(wheelies in wheelchair):) and still spending time with my family
I LOVT GREASE
I LOVT GREASE
i call her moochell
oops...lol i meant to say i love grease and rizzoli was my favourite!
what happened to you, lil?
Yay Lilli, for loving Grease, loving Rizzo and your post at 6.16!!
had treatment for menieres disease which killed off my balance onone side on purpose because my consultant didn't realize/know that i had menieres in both ears and balance went on that too(menieres is fluid build up in inner ear...dizzy spells, tinnitus)
Oh dear, lil -- how frustrating!
thanks soodle :) rizzo was the best in the film tho and i loved the music...sad i know, plus i still have the album:)
sorry, guys. I'm having problems with the internet today. Comcast has been little to no help. I'm trying the laptop now; we shall see ow long this works.
hi all
hi jmc
hope we don't lose you nef
This is my grumble about Babble. You log in to innocently find a couple of words in a grid, then you get sucked into conversations with intelligent, lovely, real human beings. Then before you know it, its 3 hours past your bed-time. Sheesh.
too true soodle
Aw, soodle; you just need to log in earlier (or go to bed later)
mi madre had meniers syndrome - the doc controlled it w/ valium - valium is also used in the space pills to keep the astronauts from "sea sick" syndrom while in space
interesting -- my hubby had meniers syndrome but they had nothing to offer him
sorry -- phone again
it's one of those things jilli, i had the treatment because my daughter was a year old and i was beginning to fall over and was frightened of hurting her. when i lost my balance a few days later i was told i must have had an allergic reaction to the treatment i'd had to kill of my balance in one ear. it's lfe, me, hubby and bairn have learnt to live with it!hard for my daughter sometimes as she is now my main carer when hubby is away
Lol Nef. I will bid you all a very good night.Love and hugs to all, and thanks for the wonderful company. to all who are suffering - from whatever - special hugs and good wishes. Nite all. XX
did he not have tablets to start with jmc?
bye soodle!
i was on serc
niters, soodle! (Just back from being bumped again)
no nothing--they said there was no cure all he could do is suffer
nite soodle, lovely to catch up with you, sleep well, tc
whoa jmc - this was in the 70's - mi madre had excellent docs
but this was nearly 20 years ago
Oh lil, what a disaster! Thinking you're going to get a cure and getting a disability instead.
apparently ren
Gnight, soodle -- so glad to see you and have a chat.
niters soodle
this is going back 11 years ago jmc, but i moved counties and i think if i'd stayed in the one i was before i wouldn't have had the same treatment from my other consultant
well hubby died in 1993 so looks like they are getting worse since 1970
Rennie -- you're in the grid ;-)
woot got both 9s on my own
it was difficult to come to terms at the time jilli as i worked in the care field and loved my job with people with special needs and then not being able to do things that i always wanted to do when i had a child was hard and i felt really guilty to agreeing to the treatment, especially now that my daughter is older and i've missed out on so much, physically with her...but we get on with it and all love eachother
wd LA!
yay leslie
so sorry jmc - some docs are dedicated - mi madre's oncologist kept her alive from 1991 to 2006 - she also had poly cythemia vera - which is the over production of red blood cells -
lil, you certainly shouldn't feel guilty -- you did nothing wrong!
lil you made the best decision you could make with the information you had
i'm so sorry about your husband jmc and what he went through and how he got treated
wtg leslie
well it is water long under the bridge. . . .but ty
ah, just got the ta9 -- similar to the other 9
how about the 2 8 letter words?
I haven't got either of the 8 letter words
hang on, just looking :)
se8 starts like what you would do to a lover, with music, but the last two letters are different
the ve8 sounds like the disease i have...if you scroll down you will see it
ty molly
minus the m
actually, don't listen to that...sorry
ve8 ends like the 9's and starts with ***ding machine, that dispenses snacks
it sounds a bit like a sexually transmitted disease

weird to have Wikipedia blacked out!

saw a video of a new hospital in Dallas .... supposed to be the best in the world
which was that?
cuz I guarantee it's not ; )
is yours 50 years old
hi harry
my hospital?
the new one is several years off .. just had groundbreaking
I give up....going to expert.
hi lill
sw
my mouse got sruck so i had to reboot
Univeristy Hospital? Parkland? they are both building brand new ones.... about 2 blocks apart
yep, that is univeristy hospital.... they may end up having a cool building, but they don't understand that will not make them the best hospital
I've worked at the best, I know the difference
you were at the best
Johns hopkins
it is the committment to excellence in every area.... down to the freakin transporter and janitor
when I first saw your name and that you were in baltimore I wondered if you were weeb's daughter
UH drives me nuts
I had never heard of weeb until I moved there and patients would ask me if I was related... at first I thought they were saying dweeb
wasn't sure what to make of that til I figured out who he was
dweeb.. I'd believe
old men should not throw stones
*innocent look*
young should not either
we had a new hospital built where i live a few years ago..it was built originally for all the soldiers coming back from the 2nd world war and then a few years ago it was knocked down and made into a new hospital and that is called a university hospital...not as many beds as the last one apparently
true....
do they need as many?
I was in the brand new tower of Victoria's Royal Jubilee Hospital -- fabulous.
need a clue for SE 7/32 please
don't get me wrong... the new place will be pretty, have lots of bells and whistles, look cool.... but that doesn't matter. In the long run it is about the people
Million-dollar beds from which the patient can raise and lower window blinds, turn lights on or off. Mostly individual rooms to prevent infections, get better rest, many other features.
Nurses with communication devices...

:-D
well, in this area kje. yes. but i feel sorry for the soldiers as the last hospital was built on a really steep slope the the poor orderlies having to push them to the top wards must have suffered as much as the sooldiers
well, that is where we differ here, jilli.... here, you have money or die
thanks harry

Hello Mark

Oh hey Jilli. How are you doing today?

I'm having a happy Happy Hour, thanks, Mark :-)
all i know is that one doctor left canada and the other left england because of it. . . but this was in the 1980s
maybe it is changed

Why did the invisible man look in the mirror? To make sure he still wasn't there.
Puzzle was a ci5/16 to complete. Ea4/6 of the words were easy to find. Now he 4/5 is a story filled with hi 4/5s. When I was little, my parents hi4/5d a na 6/18 I did not like. She would always tell me I ca4/5 do this or I ca4/5 do that. She en5/12 rules that my parents never had.For example, when we ate lunch she would tell me to sit straight with my ch 4/6 up. My parents never cared how I sat at the table. If I didn't behave, she would stare at me with an ic 5/12 glare than the wicked witch. She also made in5/10 threats that I did not listen to.Her screams bothered me to my in 5/10 core. She would also sn5/14 toys out of my hand while I was playing with them. She also demanded that I not make a mess because the house had to stay ne 4/4. I begged for my Mom & Dad to get rid of her, but they would not budge an in4/6.They liked her and thought she was nice. They told me I had to listen to her and I ca4/5 disrespect her. Little did they know that she was a very cruel person with a ve 6/27 of kindliness. I tried to ha 5/16 a plan to get her fired, but nothing ever worked. Hubby has a desi4/4 to use computer. I am going to be a ri 5/10 and ri 4/4 out of this chair and go watch the film An4/4 and the King. I hope you have se 4/4 some more words. I will be back later on.

wb ren
Hello Servant Ren!
Hi Lilliann!
Rennie!!
Ren - I hear you've been a bit of a lily-livered landlubber lately. Maybe if you crawl enough and pay me the homage due to me, I will chuck you a slice of shoofly pie. Maybe...
am off to bed nite all and tc(poof)
thanks lil - hey dawg - grovel grovel at mistress's feet
'Night Lil. Sleep well.
Not enough grovels...
Not sure if I want to watch this. I hate groveling.
sweet dreams, Lilliann
Molly - it's all in fun, I promise you. A long-term thing beween Renfield and her mistress Jacula (think Bram Stoker).
grovel grovel grovel grovel grovel grovel grovel grovel - i have been a lily-livered landlubber and i am grovel grovel grovel groveling
and who is the most fantabulicious mistress of the fly eaters and the pirates?
the mistress jacula is the most fantabulicious mistress of the fly eaters and the pirates
*throws a piece of shoofly pie Ren's way, and sends a dollop of squirty cream to put on top of it.*
'chomp chomp slurp' thank ye mistress
*Puts foot on Ren's neck as she bends to eat the pie.* 'Now make sure we have no more of this illness nonsense. I need you fit and well and ready for duty swabbing the decks.'
y/w Ren.xx
aye mistress
I think you mean 'aye, 'aye Capt'n!
aye mistress, 'aye, 'aye Capt'n!'
That's better! Now, how is the ship's cat, Jett doing?
taking over the house, still a kitten larger than the cocker spaniel - gonzo jett
and all he eats is kitten dry food
That's one hell of a big kitten! Be a good ratter for the ship eventually.
aye - that he will be mistress
Seriously - don't just keep him on dry food. That's the quickest way to kidney failure. Cats aren't good at drinking tap water, they prefer brackish water from outside.
Hopefully, he'll get interested in fresh food soon!
thanks you for the info- now i know why he and the other cat like to drink blondies's water with all the doggie slobber and food on the bottom
The crew might only get grog and dried ship biscuit but the cat needs fresh fish and meat!
Yes, cats hate tap water and bottled water. My cats always drank the greenish water from the pond by choice. The cat I still have, still does.
I've never had a cat that liked milk either. And, actually, cow's milk is bad for cats.
there is a non-milk liquid my other kitty likes - in small slurps
it's in the kitty department at the pet stores
brb - need to get the mezzer a soda and meds
Yes, I tried that cat milk thing on my two (when I had two) and neither of them liked it. Kira (RIP) the black female loved cheese. She would materialise whenever it was out in the open. Yes, I do mean materialise. Even if we hadn't seen her for hours and still couldn't see her as we approached the fridge to get some cheese out, the moment the packet was opened she would be there.
Okay Ren. See you in a bit. x
The male cat, the one who is the Hunter Cat, loves killing things and also materialises whenever raw meat is around. Having said that, he also adores cooked, crispy chicken skin.
He used to beg for cheese when Kira was around but hasn't bothered since she died.
Anyone lurking who needs clues, btw?
re7 the first?
Hello Shirlock - re7 (1st) is to do the part in the stage play again.
thx jac, good clue
y/w
re 7/32 is re plus en 5/12 word Shirlockc and hi there
Hello again, Min.
I always forget the indian bread
Hello Jacula! I was just playing Pinball for 45 minutes.
So do I Dan, when making a curry or a balti, but I usually remember it in the grid. LOL
Min - did you win?
hehe Jac
dan - I assume you have the Mexican snack?
I do Jac
still need the ne6
I don't play others. I just try to get to a certain level
ne 6/18 word is ne + anagram of ri 4/4 word dan2bit.
ne + anagram of get up in the morning
got it tx min & shir
ne6 = clamworm or ragworm. Google it, if the site isn't still protesting.
yw
Shirlock - good clue. Almost wordlwide word re language that might be translated as 'don't want to get up yet!' whilst bashing the alarm clock.
re 7, second one, please
Hi bichon. 2nd re7 is to employ again.
pl of the 6 before it
ty Jac, and hi everyone
Or rather employs again.
y/w bichon.
firewords! tx all cluers - se7 se + ri5 was my last
Congratulations dan2bit on your fireworks!Way to go
now if i has the ri5 ...
Well done, dan.
ri5/12 - soya bean poison or ri5.10 upright part of stair or step, Shirlock?
i got it thx!
Actually castor oil bean, not soya bean.
se8?
*Is now actually wondering if her doctor from childhood was trying to kill her - thinking about castor oil for constipation, kaolin & morphine for the opposite*. Blimey!
se 8/40 is se 4/4 plus consonant plus babbler ***lante.
se8 - a romantic song.
thx guys!
y/w Shirlock
no, your doctor Jacula, helped your brain........ fish oil.
and the mophine? He had me 'tripping'. LOL
Goodnight to my fellow babblers! I'll see you tomorrow
moRphine, I meant.
'Night Min. Sleep peacefully.
I'm off now, too. No morphine or castor oil. See you all next grid.
morphine?? where?!! crossy holds an arm out and a leg up:)
evening all
hi jes, hi crossy
how goes, dawg?
howdy lbd
Heyas kids ..
howdy torgone
hi torg :)
hey crossy--it finally decided to be winter here; how much snow did it dump on you up there?
12 inches in last 3 days with one day of rain in the middle
oh, layering snow on ice...what fun
it is special
rained all day yesterday and flash froze to minus 14 overnight and blew a lake effect blizzard of georgian bay all morning, the sun all this afternoon..i do not know if i should wear shorts of 15 layers
hehheh. 15 layered tank tops :)
i keep 3 seasons of clothing in the car at all times, spring, fall and winter
you have seen those pictures of canadians in a big parka and shorts? well that is why
I've been known to trudge out in heavy insulated boots, jeans, a tank top and mittens :).... it's my hands and feet that get cold.
hey everyone
hi jen :)
this puzzle looks boring
I dunno, it's not large enough to get really tedious
i found 18
Half way :)
checking to see if logo changes, hi Babblers
nope
meant icon, not logo
hi aloy
Looks like a sunset in chatlog
hi jes (-: supposed to be the sun instead of the sunrise.. have had FM's icon in her honor for 52 days, thanks for the input
I reloaded, now it's the cartoon sun.
oh, good.. I will try that too
testing, one, two, three..
didn't work
oh well, that's ok.. eventually "the sun will come out tomorrow"
heh
hey snuffy
hi there jmc!
hi all
i was just reading about new vs. old wars
howdy, jam
fun fun fun
hey jes
that was after spending 2 hours reading about rain barrels
h'mm.. new or old, war is not healthy for people and other living things
i tell you i know how live a full life
am a rain barrel fan
thoughts on what i should look for besides a low spigot
i was looking at a rain barrel wall
a bigger container
haha!
barrels aren't big enough
the wall holds 67 gallons
seriously.. you need a lot of capacity
i did a calculation and it appears that my roof would provide 150 gallons for 1 inch of rain
i don't have that much space
i should have built my addition out of rain barrel walls
wonderful.. that is what I mean..oh.. ok, see what you mean.. any space to put a "rain garden"?
that is a place to which you can divert the rain water
((((((ALOYISIUS!))))))) hey all!
not really--i just thought to spread the rain out over the summer some without breading mosquitoes
hi stiddy
hows the snowy west coast stiddie
stid! great to see you! how's every little thing?
I just posted my master's paper *yuck face* and resume to my website... my own "folksy" low-key style. It's blocked at the moment to protest the SOPA nonsense, but it will be available again soon.
breading or breeding mosquitoes.. (-: have never tried breaded mosquitoes
haha! never could spell
I am well, Aloyisius, trying to get a full-time job in what I have considered my most likely setting. But no nibbles yet.
are breaded mosquitos anything like fried grasshoppers?
wtg, stid.. am sure you are relieved to have accomplished this.. yay
breaded mosquitoes might be okay with enough tabasco sauce
i had fried cockroaches once breaded mosquitoes couldn't be worse
omg.. fried la cucarachas
had chocolate covered ants but no grasshoppers yet
crunchy no doubt
all crunch snuffy nothing else
lol
ants had kind of a bite to them
how are you aloyisius? staying warm? we have SNOW!
fiber for one's digestion, chitin
jmc, is your home done being renovated yet?
a sting i guess
well my friend was hungry and they were abundant
*sigh* no stiddie--i should go home to a done bedroom at least *knock on wood*
hey stid.. having a bit of a cool spell but nothing to complain about, temps rising tomorrow.. so far, much better than last winter, only two days of 25 degrees to contend with, knock wood
jmc and I are knocking wood together..
haha snap snuffy
(-:
anyway i told my construction guy i wanted a rain barrel i guess to go with my solar panels
that's nice, Aloyisius, that it hasn't been too cold. We have had a mild winter so far, and even the last few days haven't been all that bad. And jmc, I will give those builders a "stern mama look" if your bedroom is not done posthaste! You tell them that. It might help...
oh, I am so jealous.. solar panel envy here
the solar panel guys are mad that i only let them have half teh roof and even madder that i dare build a deck on the other half which might shadow the panels
oh no, don't shadow the panels!!!!]
the poor guy had his last chemo today so i will protect him from your stern mama look
ooch.. last chemo for what?
well as it is they calculate that they will produce more than half of all the electricity i normally use all year
never asked as he did not volunteer but he did say he is officially cancer free
yep, I'm green with solar panel envy
well, that is indeed good news
oh dear... yes, I suppose I can be more patient in that case. *offers poor guy fluffy pillows and soft blankies*
i would rather have a deck than more solar panels
I am glad he is cancer free. That is a good thing.
it is one of the many reasons i don't complain more about how long this all took
put your ding dong deck elsewhere
don't shadow the sun
from the deck you can see virginia and maryland as well as dc
Aloy has spoken, LOL
I want to get solar tiles for our roof if/when we have the money to put a family room on the back. or an entry porch. or ... *sigh*
i only gots so much roof snuffy
ok, so build a platform.. a tree house..
i couldn't shadow the sun if i tried! haha
in 6/21 the second, please?
no tree
platform not legal
In + not there
in + don't come in **** i am not dressed
thanks :)
ugh, so windmills must also be against ordinances
too high
no you can get windmills that are long and low now so they can be on the crest of your roof
very cool, didn't know
it is a city snuffy--and people thought it odd that there were oil derricks in back yards in houston
it would be like putting to sticks at either end and then inbetween them you put a flat corkscrew that the wind turns
does that make sense?
ok.. are there others in your neighborhood using solar power?
first re7/32 please?
that makes a lot of sense jmc, so why aren't they installing them on all the buildings!
I'm picturing it, jmc, give me time (-:
jes: to pretend to be a person from the past in an historical context
think civil war re7s, people who dress up in character
this is cutting edge stiddie--couldn't even find a pic on line
of course wiki is down
the wind blows hard, the roof peels back, lol
my oldest sister sent this today http://www.tomrush.com./video_remember .html
lifts off and flies to Oz
here it is:http://gigaom.com/cleantech/ridgebl aster-rooftop-wind-turbine-idea/
ok.. gonna check it out..
the video has been removed by the user *sigh*
what?
it is still there on my computer
it's in your cache, jmc, which is nice.
belated thanks, stid--i got distracted watching the crow sledding.
that sucks
try googling tom rush remembering
try this, jmc http://challenge.ecomagination.com/hom e/SmartWind-RidgeBlaster-18-kW-wind-tu rbin
is se8 related to se6?
wow.. the concept is very intriguing.. did research back in the late 70's that confirmed wind power as THE alternative energy for areas like northern Ohio.. we get a lot down here in SW Fla too.. and I like the position of the tube.. bookmarked the page, tyvm jmc..
no, jes
what a great idea!
i think it makes sense but i waited a while for the solar panels so that most of the kinks were worked out before i invested
so i would wait a while for the ridge blaster
oic you were talking about the ridge blaster video and not the remembering video
se 8: start out with four letter word for "dry", then add symbol for sodium and end with ** dah!
I would like a boost for the se 8 please?
thanks!
ty snuffy
aloy is cluing premptively for you, stid :)
the ve 8 is similar i was told
no, tis not
how about a 9 so i can have nbs and go to bed
I have the ve 8 and can't figure out how they could be similar
oh well it was probably the 9 then
ca9-where they put the peaches in the tins
what do i know!
the 9s are the same but for the first letter. think steinbeck's book about the fish factories in california, plural word
well, if you visited places where they treated leather, you would have ta9
ty jes and stid

gah. indian? french and scottish weren't enough confusion?
LOL jes!
down to 4 and stuck.
need the ve 6/7 pair along with the toughy se words
whatcha missing?
ve6 and 7 are thin layers laid over the surface of something

head up and too the right in the grid
thanks jes
te6?
person who rents is the te 6 (think dr who different spelling)
need that se 8 and the se 7 that comes after

se8 is like the se6 immediately after, but change the last vowel, then add british "so long"
the se7 is my last word
thanks jes! we'll be looking for that one together then...
combine the "calm" word with the end of the ri 5 poison jes...
or, se + poison word
*waits*
thanks!
thank goodness for lickety's list today, I could not finish without it!
evening. Hi, stid, jes, et al. Ty, stid for the education about education in WA. :)
I think I've finished exactly 1 grid listless
evening, dc
i hardly ever finish anymore. I just stopped caring. I play to have fun. :)
sure thing, seain, what little I know I am happy to share! LOL there are so many differences state to state. I know a little about VA schools from a friend who teaches there.
YAY jes!!!
I usually play to have fun, too -- but have wanted to take my mind off the job search the last couple days. It's disheartening to keep hoping and waiting and the phone doesn't ring.
ah, so you know that we have 'teachers associations' instead of unions, as teachers are classified as commonwealth, not locality employees and therefore may not unionize.
and yay for stid's fireworks too!
yes, job searching is hard, even in an in-demand profession such as your own.
thanks jes!
congrats, stid :)
I'm gonna head off and cuddle with bruce now that we've defeated this grid... thanks for cluing! :)
have fun, jes! see you tomorrow.
thanks also seain.
wow. I started to get on my soapbox... LOL delete! delete!
Will head out unless you need some clues, seain?
eh, i'll list maybe first. congrats also, jes, and g'night to both yall
okay seain... I hope you are well and having a good start to the new year. I'll check back in a little while before I head to sleep.
bit of a rough start, but an end in sight, and a better year than i've had in several in store. :D
glad to hear that, seain! just checking in one last time, in case you are stuck on something?
only just listed, and so far so good, thanks :)
okay, I will toddle off to sleep -- and hope the power is on in the morning. It's chilly out there!
g'night, and may the power be back soon. Wet snow is hard on overhead lines, and your infrastructure there is not well-built for snow and ice at your altitude, i'm sure
hello all its that time again
hello everyone :)
