nite all.
what is a backwards mouse?
mitch did one a few mins ago
list in mitch's profile jili
oh, sorry dart -- didn't realise -- and tyvm Mitch
found the tricky em 4/8 YAY
my regular clicker on the mouse now double clicks when I single click...last night would close one window ans 2 would close...thought it was my computer acting up...found out it is the mouse, so I reversed the 2 buttons...and now keep clicking the wrong one
ty, jill - interesting read. As I think I said he is trying it out on a basal cell outbreak and will certainly have it checked out when we get home.
why is it doing that?
nan -- I'm just a cynic -- and it's good he will get it checked by the doc as you said.
wish I knew...only a year and a half old...read online that they are using cheaper materials and the contacts wear out a lot sooner now...don't know if that is the problem
crazy... my first mouse lasted 8 years :)
so I have to right click when I want left...and left when I want right
that would drive me batty
down to 8... to list or not to list... that is the question
believe me ...it is
don't list...easier than the last few
you'll have to break down and buy a new one lol

fi 8 and mi 8 are both past tense of fi 6 and mi 6, both set up with the same letters

em 8 works the same as well
<--wants to know WHAT is up with the nightly 3:00 AM downtime - did it take the place of the 2:00 AM hiccup? - or is it in addition to it? sure seems to last a long time! :P
good morning
hi, ruby? get the new addition to the doggy family?
I meant hi! not hi?, lol!
?? is okay with me, I'm not sure if I'm coming or going, either. This place is a circus with the new and wonderful puppy trailing grumpy old Ruby lady-dog who is very jealous of the new arrival and uses her "discipline mommy" nasty voice on him
He is, however, a total delight: handsome, athletic, very affectionate, smart AND housebroken
he is better than any dog we could have wished for
haha, I know that voice, our little female uses it on all the big male "pups" around our place. Just to keep them in line.
Housebroken, wonderful!!!
I hope she won't hurt him
chows are always very clean but at 3 months, I find this amazing
oh, they know when it's just a pup, I think.
he has run of the house already and for his late-night outinge, I've taught him to follow the flashlight
she just wants him to know who's boss. That's a neat idea, a flashlight - does he follow it back to the door okay?
I think Ruby is still grieving for dear old Max
yes, because there are steps and we both need the light
that's really amazing! glad he's fitting right in. has he cheered up your hubby?
just picked out our new pup, a female beagle...lost our beloved 14 yr old dog 15mths ago and have finally decided to get another companion. She'll be ready to bring home in 4 weeks.
oh, nice! new pups for all! :) beagle babies are so cute.
wonderful, dizgrannie! we need our pups to make the house feel like a home and with these delicate chows, we've decided to always keep two
beagles are so smart!
TY rbud and ruby, we've been very undecided about another pet - but the opportunity came up and the owner is getting its first lot of needles and microchipped for us.
many people can't bear the pain of losing a dog and immediately replacing it, but I felt, especially for my sad and sickly husband, a new puppy might be just the ticket.
is he happy with the puppy, ruby?
our g/kids were most upaet when poor 'Chrissie' passed on and have been at us that 'we need another pet' so we did it. Many well meaning people said, get another straight away but we weren't quite ready for another dog.
yes, as the puppy loves everybody
I think each of us handles his grief in his own way.
I think each of us handles his grief in his own way.
Husband os am introvert and has few friends and can't talk about stuff. I lean heavily on my friends and this wonderful support group and it is a great help.
and he can't talk about Max without crying
good you didn't get another black one then, most likely.
{{HUGGLES}} to Mr Ruby xxx
Ruffino's mom is black and all of our six chows have been from the same, Canadian, bloodline
Mi-Pao
originally out of Johnnie Walker, who was an internatinal grand champion
we were very lucky that our friends found this Italian boy at just the right time and that he was raised by a family, not by a breeder
yes, we had a beautiful little black female from the same kennel, Cleo, just before Ruby, but she had a heart anomaly and died, suddenly, at two
I think that, usually, inbreeding for black may now be a good idea with these fancy guys
not*
yes, I recall you said your black ones had problems.
but he sounds like the perfect dog for you guys, hope Ruby thinks so soon, too. :)
but evidently, Ruffino's mom is a lovely, smart, normal dog. Go figure! I don't know enough
have you decided on a name for the beagle, diz?
I love what people name their dogs!
Ruffino is officially Akito (bleh)
oh, is there a big difference? between Akito and Chow?
no, no, that was his registed name. totally different breed, Akitas are Japanese, chows Chinese
they just had to put a name on his registration papers
before we got him or they knew of our interest
oh, I see. No, I wouldn't have wanted to call him that, either.
wasn't that the name of the Japanese prime minister in WW2?
<-- not knowledgeable about history, either
yeah Ruby, Begs as in short for beagle. Chrissie was so named as we found her as a pup abandoned on Xmas Eve
and our old male was Rufus, so this does him honor, too
when I name animals, I always think of how I'll sound in the back yard calling them, lol! I had a friend once who named her dog "Free Bird" - sounded really silly out calling for it, hahaha! :P
that is a lovely story about Chrissie and you will probably call him Beggie or poopy or who knows what, once you see him
we had a temporary housekeeper during the summer who heard me call Ruby, Poopy, and thought that was her name. Ruby didn't mind but e thought it was hilarious
Rbud, that is an excellent thing to think about when naming a pet. I wish my neighbor who named her dog Prada had thought of that.
Ruby, owner posted photos of Begs on FB and me and Hubby feel in lurve....LOL
{{molly}}
and imagine calling "poopy" in the yard
bad enough picking up poopy lol
oh, I call ours "poopydog" often, but not when she's trying to escape
And it doesn't help that Prada is mental and her owner has a shrill, nails on a chalkboard voice.
we've had the fence around the property totally checked and reinforced AGAIN since Max's escape
"Prada, oh, Prada!!" hahah
oh no! I can picture that, Molly, eek!
(and by the way, poor Free Bird was a big male Irish setter, so no "birdie" for short)
Seriously, who names their dog after handbag line. And Ruby it's Praaaaaaaaadaaaaaaaa
(hated him, he was prone to jumping through screens after females)
bad dog stories hahah
I would go crazy with neighbors like that
I keep my windows shut A LOT
it's funny how common Ruby, Rufus and Max are as dog (and cat) names
and our first chow was Rosie, also common. And we all think we are being original.....
SeaSpray's dog was named Max
our neighbor has a nasty mean little Boston Terrier who likes to come over here and pick fights with our dogs, can't get near him, all snarly - I used to like that kind of dog until I met him
I don't like little dogs except for Bichons and Lhasa Apsos. The terriers and miniature poodles I've known have been nasty
whenever I meet a new Yorkie, I ask the owner how he is with rats because that was originally what Yorkies did for a living
I usually love Fr bulldogs, but one I knew fairly well tried to bite me one day
I like the common names for my dogs, have had a Maggie, Ralphie, Freddie - and then there was Eloise, we called her Weaseldog.
and Burt has been bitten twice by Yellow Labs
we got into the R names because alll of those dogs were dupposed to be reddish
oh, I don't like Labs in general, or Dobermans
doorbell
once in a while I meet a good one, not often.
hey Ruby Doorbell is not a bad name for a dog is it?
we had a dog named Diogee once, pronounced D-O-G... he was a great dog.
hiya, Scouser, how's tricks?
Hi rbud
Prada is a Rottweiler who growls the death growl at everything. Butterflies, squirrels, you name it.
When I was little we had a whitish dog called Woolyb (short for woolly bear) which could jump the four-foot fence into next door's garden
LOL! Really a poor choice of names, a Rott! heehee!
I like Woolyb, though, not bad!
I really do think the dog is not right in the head.
Rotts get weird if not trained right, from my experience.
I notice that not many Rotw owners manage to train them well enough. I knew a dog-trainer/breeder who used to take the food-dish away after two mouthfuls, and if the dog carried on attacking to get the dish, it was put down.
That makes sense, I doubt this dog is trained at all. And I don't think big dogs like that belong in a townhouse. I doubt it ever gets walked, it's just confined in a tiny back yard.
that's how they judge them on some rehabilitation TV shows I've seen, as to whether they're food obsessed or growl when you get near their bowl.
I think Rotts and possibly chows and Pyreneans are all one-man dogs, hence their use as guard-dogs but they get confused who the one-man is or isnt.
stick out a fake hand on a broomstick to snag the bowl, if they bite it, they are judged not fit for adoption.
Are one-man dogs therefore not particularly pack-dogs (like most are) and are therefore have no inkling of "sharing". There have been horrendous cases of Rotts and other guard-dogs attacking children here.
wandered to the kitchen... back again. I know Rotts and German Shepherds, too, often have hip problems at a fairly early age.
fox terriers are also one person dogs....had one when our girls were little and it attached itself to youngest dtr - if both girls were playing in the yard and the eldest went near the youngest - the dog would growl and nip at her. we ended up adopting her to an elderly friend and it lived till a ripe old age - thoroughly spoilt.
we've never had a purebred anything, though, except a couple of pitbulls (brother and sister) for a while, more of a foster deal. I like mutts! :)
I think our little Roxie is mostly rat terrier, she's attached mostly to me, can't go anywhere in the house without her right on my heels.
Our Chrissie was a mixed breed, twas great with our g/kids - nobody could come in the yard if they were there playing, also when hubby was away for the night she would be under my feet AND sleep on the bottom of our bed. Never slept there when hubby was home.
sounds like a sweetie, diz. :)
you know, I was a dogcatcher one summer years ago - the meanest dog I dealt with all summer was a tiny toy poodle, lost at the local state park campground by her owners, she was vicious. Scared and hungry, of course, so I still felt sorry for her.
they didn't even come back for her when we caught her, so we put her in a cage alone and didn't hold out much hope for an adoption. she'd attack all of us when we tried to do anything with her.
then one day a sweet little older lady came in, and before we could warn her, she'd whipped open the cage and was snuggling her and talking baby talk, dog loved her, and they went home happy.
aww luverly
we were all amazed! :)
Just goes to show that some dogs and people were meant to be together.
did my new icon come up??? our little Begs
awwww, so tiny!
Wow, that's a tiny puppy.
isn't she lurverly...born last Friday on my Mums 85 birthday.
and how long until you get her?
Pity we have to wait a few more weeks to get her (I want her NOW...lol)
around 6 weeks, rbud
bet she won't already be housebroken like ruby's, haha!
rbud, LOL nope
anyways me is off for the night, been great chatting. Night all xxx
night, diz! :)

I guess my half baked question was...could I have some help w/those 7 ltr. words, please.
try nuclear fi*****
... fi ... think splitting the atom ... mi ... you send your special forces troops out on a mi7

morning Hurshy
indeed. morning it is.
it promises to be a nice day here
that's good
Hi hurshy, how are you doing lately?
i have a bad cold. wrenched my back yesterday during a coughing fit.
been there, done that. comiserations
ty
how are you?
Was hoping for another day like yesterday, spring. It's raw out. But, I will mak the most of it
spring will soon be here to stay
I have a love hate relationship with Spring. It's just that summer follows. I am not a fan of the heat and humidity in CT
ditto
ditto
hope you feel better soon, hursh . . . hi and bye
ty une hi and bye
well, i got the 9's but not the 8's... any guidance?
They start with em and om and have similar last endings
Not past tense
ah silly me thank you !
: )
we are so close to having misery... apropos that would be
Apropos? Why?
cause i feel misery with my cold and my back
esp my back
I have a cold too.
:(
So do I, but it's not misery stage here. *Passes chicken soup around*
do you have the severe one that's going around? my doctor said it's been lasting people 4 weeks!!
I must have caught it when you sneezed on your keyboard.
I don't know- it kept in gradually. started with spaciness, now is in the dry throat and exhaustion phase.
Extra set of undereye bags
ah, after that for me was the watery eyes constant sneezing phase, with chest congestion and coughing. then the congestion spread to the head.
It's coming. How did I catch it all the way from the UK?
oh dear. after hearing all this cold talk, now im hoping my slight ickiness is just allergies!
i'm only a wannabe brit.
No...start taking your placebos right now!
zinc, take zinc
Was anyone in the UK part of the great Homeopathic Overdose Protest day?
i don't know if any actual brits are here at the moment
Do I count?
I think so- did you hear about it?
oooh of course you do!
Oh good, I will fly the flag for the Brits. I didn't hear about the protest, I must admit.
haz, im pretty sure you count even when youre NOT here. :)
The way I really know that I am ill is that I woke up with Katy Perry's singing in my head.
Is it possible to overdose on homeopathy?
wow what a horrid symptom
People gathered to protest homeopathic snake oil by downing bottles of hp pills.
it's POSSIBLE to overdose on anything - including water
That is true. Water can dilute your sodium severely.
Haz, I think that was their point- they were saying there is nothing in it.
i kissed a cat and i liked it...
My cynical husband would agree, Kaplan.
http://navigatinghealthcare.wordpress. com/2011/03/04/homeopathy-overdose-day /
I kissed a squirrel...
sales of cherry chapstick went through the roof that year...
I think we probably have to deal with the reality that a cold is a cold is a cold, and if you've got one
you've got one.
at what point does hunger overcome the knowledge that getting up will be very painful?
Breakfast in bed, Hursh.
Feeling hungry is a good sign, surely?
well that's a nice idea but who knows how long it will be before husband wakes up
Kick him in the ribs.
hungry is fine, it's my back that is the big problem now. the cold would be more manageable had i not wrenched my back while coughing.
Ah, that makes a difference. I can sympathise with the back pain.
triple whammy.
mi4 soup is good for you.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories are your best bet.
does that mean ibuprofen?
MOTRIN
It does.
yes. Ibuprophen the wonder drug.
spelled the way J
Hursh spelled it
i have some leftover percoset...
fen.
medical stuff is never spelt the way i imagine when i hear it so i am just resigned to getting it wrong
See, there's the difference between the US and the Brits. We know about 2 medicines, the US know and can discuss lots.
Percoset is the opiate. If the ibuprofen really doesn't work, that would be your better bet.
what is the other one you know about haz?
Percs don't agree with everyone.
Heroin.
Aspirin.
I know lots of animal drug names, though.
Aspirin is so 1965.
of course
do you not have medical dramas on tv?
Excedrin headache number 43.
that is where most of my words come from
I remember having an antibiotic for a sinus infection and being strangely comforted when my husband informed me it was the equivalent of Nuflor and great for calves.
"Tommy, can you please take your bicycle OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY?"
"Mother, please- I'd RATHER DO IT MYSELF!"
There are lots of medical dramas, yes, but I think in everyday life people here don't really discuss their medicines just as much.
You can get shapelier calves from antibiotics?
put on the capris!
Does it reduce cellulite too?
If only that were true, women with calves would benefit hugely.
there aren't a whole lot of women without calves
hm.
The missing information for you, Kaplan, is that my husband is a vet.
ok i am going to make a medicine/food voyage, wish me luck
I figgered as much.
Do animals benefit from placebos, I wonder?
Bon Voyage, hurshy.
bye. Gotta go d something useful.
Bye, Kaplan.
i made it!
Good!
i have been going through so many tissues i feel like i am single handedly destroying a rainforest
It's horrible, I know. Can you get the tissues with balsam in them?
aloe, we tend to have ones with aloe, which i do have
As long as you're not dealing with just the straightforward tissues, they can leave your nose all sore.
with this many, i think it is inevitable one will get the sore nose
but yes it is definitely not as bad with the treated ones
It will get better but it's astonishing just how bad a streaming cold can make you feel.
i thought i would be back at work by now but then last night and this morning i had a slight temperature
Facial tissue has abrasives in it. That is why you aren't supposed to use it to clean your eyeglasses.
Better to stay home than infect everybody else.
but the longer it goes the less contagious you are, right?
hi all
I'm not sure at what point you start being less of a health hazard.
hi
Hello, jmc.
*hands hursh a tissue with lotion*
ty :)
Good morning everyone!
hi car
hi car. and hello everyone
Hello, car and Annie.
Hi Annie!
Hi jmc!
Hi Haz!
good afternoon, Haz :)
hi annie
hi jmc, how was the house warming? Did you have enough food? You were concerned about that.
i had enough food but it was touch and go on the wine
about 50 people came and then one couple came a day late
good thing people kept bringing wine as house warming gifts
solar panels should be complete today
Then it was a success. Have a great deal of happiness in your newly renovated home? What fun and mess and wait but worth it.
remove the ? add an .
it was kinda of worth it when the solar panel guy looked and said you have a beautiful house--no one said that before
What a nice thing to hear!
it really was--i was actually surprised
my house has always been the dump
How nice!
a dump, no more!
haha well the front yard is still pretty dumpy! but i will work on that this summer when school is out

Plural the plural letter.
I shouldn't lilsten to talk radio during the day. I just heard something that makes me want to bash my head against the wall.
What was that, Judi?
The infamous Rev. Jeremiah Wright is organizing an anti-Israel march... to Israel. *bash bash bash*
*annie joins judi* bash, bash, bash
All I can say is, I hope they deny entry to everyone when they get to the airport.
thanks Judi nbt
Israel has enough problems w/o having to deal with a loon like the Rev. Wright
I'm stuck at 47. Is there a list posted anywhere?
Hi all. Playing on phone. Can someone clue the two O words on the right please?
hey on the bright side pat robertson is finally starting to say things that make sense - who'd have expected THAT after all these years?
oo4/4
i don't have the other one
Ty hurshy
I have nothing good to say about "Rev." Wright or his former congregation member, who now runs our country. *Tapes fingers together*
i think the other may be the on7/28

good morning - back for the last 28 :)
Good morning, all!
Just found out yesterday - our daughter who is due in August is having a girl!! We are thrilled. We just have one grandson, who is turning 13 next week.
hi tsn
I had a gut feeling and have already been buying girl clothes and making girly things like little crocheted hats and the like.
lucky you -- we still don't know if the twins are girls, boys or one of each.....any day now and I can hit the stores!
hey all. 15 left.
wd m9 - 24 here and thinking of picking up a list
oohhh granddaughter.. little girl clothes are so cute!
But I'm happy with the little boy.LOL
Yes, there are fun to buy.
I've been crocheting cute little hats with flowers on them.
*they are fun to buy
Yay! A girlie for TNana! Congratulations!
Do they live near you?
No, unfortunately 1600 miles away.
But I will be there for the shower, the birth, and then again when she is about 3 mos. old.
I told hubby I would stay where we are (he loves it here in Montana), only if I could fly back to Michigan at least a couple of times a year.
Hahahaha
Thank you, Molly.
similar to my situation. I wasn't there for the birth, but got to see him at about 26 hours.. and then again at 6 weeks
Yes, it's tough being this far, but I've been back many times in the almost five years that we've been here.
we won't get to see ours until they are a week or more old, but there is a grandma (her 2nd and 3rd) living in the same city and lots of aunts, uncles and cousins
With the technology we have, though, it makes it easier to stay in touch. Email, Facebook, etc. My daughter put the ultrasound pics on FB and then I was able to put them on my phone, so I will have them with me to show everyone. It is amazing what those ultrasounds can do now. There is a very clear one of her precious little face!!
that's lovely, tnana
is this your first grandchild?
Yes, makes you feel (almost) like you are there!
No, have a grandson, Trent, hence - Trentsnana
He will be 13 next week - so there's been a long time between grandbabies.
duh - of course
yes I saw Levi on skype while the midwives were still there! :-)
That's cool.
we have 2 sets of grannd children - the ones that range in age from 12 -22 and the 20 month old who will be getting twin siblings any day now.
They don't post pics of Levi enough though :-(
tadone!! finiot

Impossible.
ugh!!
hope you get something back m9
Impossible!
yup.. that's how I feel about it sometimes, but for the most part I really enjoy it, and try to make it as "fun" as possible for my clients.
for a plain country pumpkin to become a golden carriage??
Mi***** Impossible!
LOL.. I like the cinderella connection better.
Yeah, but cindy is not in the grid.
and now I will have that song stuck in my head as I go off to the land of filing status, EIC, deductions etc...
bye all
Bye.
later, m9
I like New York in June. How about you?
Phantom nemesis.
buffaloed is a word. but the past tense of bi5/14 is not
i did type in nemesis without checking to see if it was there. certainly looks like it should be
stuck on the first 2 mi 6/21's -- any clues, please?
hi dorens. you can be buffaloed but not bi5ed...i think if you were bi5ed, you'd be dead.
got the one that sounds like a disease
o sol le mi* + not brother, then change last vowel to another
ty dawger
yw
no list, no mi6's.
nono has a list if you're wanting one
you guys out there in montana probably know more about bi5, or buffalo than we do in nj
thanks for the mi's and no. have made it to 29 without list and hoping to go a bit further yet.
just a bit, dorens. first we don't have buffalo. we have bi5. the american bi5, infact.
see, but here in nj we don't even know the difference between them
well, what most americans call buffalo are the same, but it's a slang, and not the proper name. so no biggy
i need to read up on the subject. and/or visit montana and wyoming
se 6/18 please?
ooh visit!! then have some buff burgers or a buff steak! yummm
se + anagram of the foot digits
ty - just found it
down to 25... if i just stick around long enough and you keep asking for the right ones, nan, i will be so happy

whoooo hooooo NAN!!

hello dear friends. babbling at work again! yay!
hi jane, trif
hi trif
well DUH! When you are in the middle of a b5 jam, you need to have your terminology down!
I was just up in your area for Special Olympics, lbd
taking my turn at the clues table, if anyone wants any...
be 7 anyone?
you should have called! i didn't even realise it was special olympic time...the weather just didn't seem right.

be6 a stupid word for a stupid mistake
oops, make that last 0 a )
snap cybernan!
i know they are all ages, but their hearts are all innocent, child-like.
i agree molly
walk a mile in their shoes and you won't see eternal child-like people any more.....
any other clues wanted before I leave?
I agree Harp, child-like is over used for those with disabilities
do they all have the same pathology, harp?
nope, intellectual disabilities is as broad picture as you can find.....
i know what you mean, their lives are a daily trial, but there is a special-ness that breaks thru the hard realities. they make the rest of us such schmucks
many of my athletes have the same job troubles, family troubles, money troubles, etc, as the rest of us.
isn't it amazing, though, to see the determination with which some people overcome and deal with their handicaps?
working here as long as I have, I have become CONVINCED that people with Down's are spies for God.
And Special Olympics brings out the best in all of us--athletes and volunteers alike!
amen to that, Harp
spies for God, I like that Trif! May I use it?
absolutely
must be off -- the cupboards are bare. see you tomorrow.
well put trif:))) and good afternoon all
We have established some long-term friendships with folks who come to the mountain to help out!
hagd, nan
I believe it was Anne LaMott who wrote it originally....got to give proper credit!
hello my dear crossy!
Better go to work. It's embarassing when the person who drives 4 hours gets to the meeting before I do!
((trif))
Good for you, for giving proper credit Trif. So many people don't do that.
lol, hagd, harp
***googling Anne LaMott****
I would LOVE for the world to think I was clever enough to come up with such a gorgeous phrase, but I want good chi, so I tell the truth.
fluff and fold calls. see ya'll later
Good chi is yours Trif : ) I have a healthy respect for words and those that create phrases with them. I have little respect for word/phrase stealers.
ugh, I am afraid you would take issue with me quickly! I LOVE good phrases so much I use them all the time when I speak....
does that count?
No, I'm talking about people who post quotes on the internet and make it look like they said them.
oh gads, there is a HUGE fracas over that very thing on one of my favorite blogs. The author was alerted by a long time reader that another blogger had copied whole sections of her writing to post on her blog, which was a PAID one, so it got very nasty.
hello everybody
it is beautiful and warm here, made warmer by Trif's lovely quote!
((ruby))
{{crossy}}
ruby !!! how are things in puppyville? I have been thinking about you all day
it is very strange the way enable enables Fr words, e.g. be6
Rufie is grand! smart, handsome, affectionate, athletic and housebroken. I've taught him to pee by flashlight late at night, how cute is that?
SO CUTE - he is clearly advanced and completely gifted
the only one who isn't happy is my Ruby who keeps giving him "motherly" snarls and growls when he follows her around
yaa for new puppy!!!!
Poor Ruby, no Max and now a new puppy to get used to. She must be so confused.
sibling rivalry!
definitely, she seems depressed, needs a lot of attention(which I give her) and isn't eating well
poor thing
did anyone say Annie LaMott, one of my favorite authors
writing the name down, a new one for me
what wort of books?
sort*
The first book of hers I read was "Operating Instructions", about the first year of her son's life.
Some are lightly veiled fiction, some are by writing "Word by Word". She is a recovered substance abuser in the Bay Area. Boy, can she write
Right now I have Marco and Polo in spearate rooms. Spate over a chew.
I'll add them to my next amazon order
*about the skill of writing
She's also written columns in Salon Mag
Lunch Time
dinner time, lol
brunch time
*Listens to the smacks, slurps, and chomping sounds*
I always want to plural that goose
there can be only 1 goose
and hello all
wondering how Ruby's dog turns on the flashlight.
Hi All

Have you heard of Hounds for Heroes, it is a new charity raising money to train helping dogs for anyone injured in service that means soldiers, ambulance men, policemen etc. it is gaining a lot of support over here, in fact I am going to a quiz night tomorrow to raise money for it

yw
thanks diane !!
hi westfore !
**westford**
hi diane and bichon..how are you both?
I'm doing great.... spring is here, although a tad chilly... but my favourite time of year.
we are having an awesome spring
I finally have my consultation at the hip and knee clinic tomorrow...it's been a long wait but we'll see what is in store for me :-)
so much warmer than normal
here it is basically summer at least for the next week, very strange
we even spent 3 weeks at the west coast ( Victoria ) and it was chilly and rainy there too :-((
Hi sue :-)
and good luck at the clinic, diane!!
do you have more pain when it's chilly?
thanks !
yes, good luck. hope they can help
I have more pain each time the weather changes, have had arthroscopic surgery on both knees ... ( 7 and 9 years ago ) but they are bad again
in fact it is almost too hot here, 78F at the moment (25C)
that is hot for IL
normal high this time of year is 46F
neat thing is... my orthopedic surgeon from back then is now retired and will be the doctor I see tomorrow for my consultation. He's very nice
oh, that is good, diane!
that's always a plus diane
It is ! :-)
Hope all goes well at your hip consultation Diane.
thanks so much, Molly :-) .... although it's my knees.
Oops, knees.
I just scrolled back... I don't think I clarified that it was knees lol
<---Doesn't always skim read well
You did, you said your knees were bad again.
yup... I see now... I mentioned "both knees"
remember a month or so ago, Molly ?? You had been dying to give the clue for Somerset, with the word Maugham ??.... well I am reading it now on my Kobo !!
Makes way more sense to me than it did when I was very young.
isn't that the truth
Of Human Bondage... I of course meant
our granddaughter's roommate has decided to read 100 books this year
college age ?
just finished The Brothers Karamosov
loved that movie
Great Diane, always nice to re-read a classic.
she's graduated and trying her hand at writing
we had dinner with them last night..she has had 2 stories published..so cool
clue for se6 please?
hi une I have se* it down and chemical ending
nm!
I forgot
found it -- but tx!
wtg !!
I see a word in the grid that the White House served to the PM
bi*** Wellington
somehow that doesn't sound that good to me
West, your granddaughter or her roommate?
granddaughter's roommate..Cassie is a bug whisperer
entomology is her game
did you know mosquitos have fringe on their wings? she's about to experiment with a microscopic laser to remove the fringe to see how it will effect them
Sounds like you had dinner with two very smart young women last night. Good for you.
we did and we are so proud of both of them
I had ground bi 5/14 at my sister's a couple of weeks ago... it was very good !
I've had bi*** too but it seems more like pot roast
very low in fat which is good
I agree... the texture is somewhat different but the flavour was excellent.
Mrs. O is very big on healthy eating
they 'shaved' all the vegetables too
lol
is that like "thin peeling" ??
I guess
I read that she was thought there was too much waste so most leave there hungry
I'll never be invited to the White House for dinner so it's a moot point
but crossy will be happy to know that maplewood bacon was on the menu
mmm bacon...it is everywhere:)
part of the first course I believe
hi crossy
the new royal couple favor mapled pepper bacon
howdy diane
that does sound good
more of a desert bacon
I wonder if they took some home
I saw Martha make bacon dipped in brown sugar..mmm
yes, glazed brown sugar or molasas bacon..it is also very nice
baked it in the oven
then there is candied bacon
that must be what she made
you are making me hungry for bacon
i once tried a bacon burger made with actual ground bacon instead of beef, with crisp bacon slices on a toasted kaiser with baconayse:)
You are the bacon king !!
and lettuce and tomato of course
salivating here.... mmmmmm
you can go all out and used maple smoked cheddar slices to really bacon it up
you're lucky you can tolerate it..most can't
was intense, but had to try it once
of late,i am enjoying the lean peameal bacons
is that what we call Canadian bacon?
i think so,made lean in log form and rolled in peameal and sliced
not the streaky sliced breafast type
perfect for eggs benedict
those are the only eggs crossy does not like..eggs benny
Nope West, what we call Canadian bacon is different from the peameal stuff
poached eggs have to be done just right
can we get it here Molly?
I've never seen it.
have to make a trip up north
Nope, I prefer the strip bacon.
yaaaa for our bacon! whee!
for strip bacon i like the apple wood smoked maple kissed variety i get at the farm
1 kilo packs-2.2 pounds of slice heaven
so it's actual peas, or corn, or what?
(in the peameal bacon)
fireworks, and time to get supper on the go.... but not bacon :-))
here u go sue...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peameal_b acon
yay diane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!
Yay diane !! what's for dinner? we're having chicken
nice chatting.... see you all soon :-)) Thanks sue, westford...
tc diane
nice chatting with you too diane
pasta , meat sauce and BIG salad .... ( chicken was last night )
ok, so it used to be peas and is now cornmeal
Used to be ground yellow peas, now it's cornmeal.
tonight is a nice honey ham and hassleback potatos with steamed veggies
Snap Sue
you too, crossy :-) bye now.
what are hassleback potatoes?
ro****,ro****,we for art thou...
do you know if it is cured with nitrites, crossy?
West, hasselback potatoes look delicious but I'm not sure I could risk the fat content.
As far as I know, all bacon is cured with nitrites.
thanks for Juliet's boyfriend crossy !
lol, sue,i would not know,at my farm it is done all natural, but you would have to read the label on store bought stuff
we're having oven baked chicken and brown rice
if you are worried about fat, stear clear of hassleback taters
no, molly, you can get uncured bacon, but it is a specialty item (Frank can't handle the nitrites so we get it at the health food store)
probably some steamed veggies too
anyway I am going to brave the heat and go home, see you all later!!
you can still do them molly, after you slice them, just brush them with virgin olive oil add your fave spices and when you pull them out sprinkile with a low fat parm
sue our 2nd granddaughter has gone gluten free..she says it's amazing what a difference it has made
bye sue have a good night
i have seen the gluten free food section..would need a second and third job to buy the food
crossy that I could do
tc suze
make sure you use virgin oil and not extra virgin salad oil(it has a higher smoke point)
I know but she was having so many problems and her doctor suggested it
Hello again Babble Land!
we did find a gluten free pizza at Numero Uno..she was so happy
hi car.e
Hi westford!
I'm on my way out..dinner won't make itself
nice to see you car.e sorry it was such a short visit.
I'm sorry what? Sue is "braving the heat"? It's not that hot yet.
bye for now all
I love how some of you put recipes on here. I'm looking for egg free cake and cookie recipes. Granddaughter is allergic to eggs
Bye West! Enjoy your dinner.
hoss
sorry
Never made any egg free baked goods, but I bet you could find some on the internet.
made a cake last night for Mady, no eggs she loved it her sister hated it
I am at the frustrating part of the grid...need 1 more here...2 more there....grrrrr.
Can't take it any more. Heading to bed. {{hugs}} to all!
bekki: vegan cooking is egg-free (and dairy and honey free). Also foodallergy.org has a recipes tab that comes in handy sometimes (I have multiple food allergies).
hassleback taters are now in da oven:) use the handle of a wooden spoon as a cutting guide, and i substituted peanut oil, which has a very high smoke point and imparts no flavour to the food
thank you stidmama
is that eggestential cooking stid?
*hides from scary ruru face*
guess the yolk is on you ruru!!!!
I'm coming out of my shell now
you are cracked!!:)))
scarmbled

Come back, little Ruru, Cobe back!
we are a good 30 degrees above normal
maybe I can whip up something:)
are you near Lincolwood?
Lincolnwood.
I don't mean to keep meringuing about this
whoops, wisk.
you are on a roll ru,the yolks on you
have you made your peak yet?
Lincolnwood is just north of Chicago, so we're about 70 miles west of it too
Just wondering.
or are you just crusty?
ski hills are closed..month and a half early:(
Stop egging him on.
there is no hard boiled answer to that blue
lemon tell you......
hi kap
Hi.
I see reason has desserted you.
I must be pie-eyed:)
It's a sure bet.
Or is that shore bay?

(sorry I am not very good at cluing)
that worked.. nonetheless..thank you sue
yw :-)
oh, you're too modest, sue, that was a good one! I was trying to think of a way to use "chas****" myself, thought it would be a good one to use on ru, lol
hi rbud, and thanks!
i am just poking along here.. jeezus
going to put the fan in the window, I am sweating to death here - IN MARCH!!!! this is so weird. Sorry to keep mentioning it but we are having a string of 70+ degree days that is utterly unprecedented.
only 30 left, thanks to Dee's list, (and having 40 left after last night, lol!)
we had that weather the other day- it got cold again.
same here sue,we are topsy turvey here..should still have tons of snow and -10c
yes, today was pretty raw in the NE
fw and sending cold rain to sue ... it is NOT above normal here! good luck all *poof*
we are 30 degrees above the average norm
Oh, yes, pretty warm here, too, have the library door open to the outside air for the first time this year - and as you say, sue, the trees are still bare!
hoping the bugs don't find us in here just yet. :P
you are in Illinois too, rbud?
We've had the AC on for three days now. 82 here for the 2nd day in a row.
I love temperatures between 70 and 80, don't consider that difficult heat at all. Yay Spring!
haven't turned on the AC yet except in the car
once it gets over 75 or so,we hit the air conditioning
so7? Any clue

I don't go to the PB
Once your name is in the grid several dozen times, you are exempt from PB banishment. And so it is.
yes wht.. the # 2 player of all time.. doesn't have to go to the PB.. she has a permanent get out of jail card
And no one should go to the PB for the past tense of om4, which is NOT a real word.
ty Molly
and ruru
My premonitions work like this when picking stocks, as well. :^)
Neither is the past tense of the Vegas lights, but the Enable weirdos seem to be on a roll today.
Maybe Enable is just living in the past.
I noticed the past lights, molly, and thought them odd

going to Springfield, MO tomorrow for my cousin's wedding Saturday

nice - have a great time!!
we have been that way, almost hit 80
79 was today's high (unofficial so far)
can't wait to see what the colors are for the wedding, maybe green and orange?
that would be pretty!

hi jes
how goes, jen?
i think everyone is either asleep or staring at the puzzle!
heheh
hi jes!
(I am grading exams)
Hello all.
grading? i thought you were on break?
hi jac!
hi jac!
see what i mean, grading exams and staring at the puzzle!
I am on break but I gave them an exam a week ago Monday and promised to have the grading done before they get back
i see
what are you grading?
I'm not asleep; I've been watching something on i-player whilst mulling over a few short story ideas and talking to my son (really here) and my daughter (in Romania, so talking to her on Facebook).
kewl jac
I am grading physics exams, jen
i am watching my favorite tv shows
ic sue
Love the icon Jac!
love your icon, jac!
If anyone needs a list for the grid there is one in my profile and on BabAnon. Mind you, only the be6/24 and 7/36 were new to me today.
Sue - thanks! I pinched the pic off an old friend on FB.
Molly - ditto.x
thanks for the list, jac, I am up to the m's now...
jacula - thnx for your lkists - i have been counting on them and using them each day - like right now
jac, i just recently lost a very good friend who was from England, pleasant lady
sorry to hear that, jen :-(
Sue - I salute you! 'Grading physics exams' - that's like me scaling Everest whilst doing short multiplication and half a dozen algebra problems on the side.
she was 88 and found out at the funeral that she kept her British citizenship
Jen - sorry to hear that.x
Jen - a lot of ex-pats do hang on to their British citizenship - I know my cousin in Canada proudly hangs on to his even though he was only about 4 when he left our shores.
well, I really like teaching, jac, but grading is the pits
sue & wvt - I'm glad you can make use of my lists. I'll try my best to keep posting them.
however I am discovering that if I write really easy exams the grading goes a lot faster :-)
how true uusue!
Sue - LOL! (BTW, I'm rubbish at maths. I'm more a wordy/arty person. I can do my accounts though!)
I have also discovered that what I think is a really easy exam is not necessarily easy for the students, though
sue - that's true. Same with Babble grids or anything really. If you know it, it's easy. If you don't, it's like swimming through mud with fog above it.
HI
Hi Herin. Not seen you to talk to for a while!x
My mother says have nothing nice to say
Does anyone ne4/5 any clues?
Herin - ??
What
BTW, the any clues post was to the Babble community in general, not in answer to Herin's post which came up just after I posted.
I just haven't had anuything nice to say
Herin - your mother/nothing nice to say? Is that your birth Mum or your adopted Mum and why did she say that?
No the saying is my says if you have nothing nice to say say nothing at all. Sorry not enough cofffee
hi, herin! You can be grumpy here as far as I am concerned :=)
nnot grumpy but that is the reason for lurking
Oh, okay Herin. I'm pretty down and grumpy myself at the moment, so I can certainly cut you some slack to be so, too.
((((herin)))))
I'd hug you, too, Herin, but sue's got you in a pretty tight grip there and we don't want to smother you!;-)
No i just need a made to put everthing back on the shelves in the kitchen and vacuum to double make sure there is no glass about
Bear hug back
jac, thanks for the list, it is really helping me!
Who smashed what, why and when?
Jen - y/w.x
Didn't you see the FB pic?
Herin - no, I don't seem to see you on FB these days.
O stupid fb
jac, thanks for the list, it is really helping me
oh, I see it now, herin, sounds like a real nuisance! And those little bits of glass can get everywhere. What a bummer.
THe cabinet above the range hood tanked the other night taking the shelves with it.
sorry, had to refresh my browser, wondered why it got quiet in here!
Broke 4 glasses lucky they were $2 plus store glasses
Hi Jen we can see you load and clear
Oh dear! Get some parcel tape or duct tape, wrap it around your hands (or your feet) and dab the whole room with it. It gets the tiniest shards of glass up.
lol herin!
Sticky side out, of course!
I have been using those picks up grease disposable wipes they have worked well. have to vacuum under the table soon
Coffee, babble and peanut butter bread first though
good set of priorities, herin!
$2 plus stores - have to LOL at that. They sell stuff that's a bit more upmarket than the $1 stores? I guess the glass won't have broken into such tiny shards then?
Well I don't know how else to describe those stores.
Darn skippy there sue
Don't mention Skippy or I'll be singing that damned theme tune all night!
I can also do 'the whistle'.
<--- cannot whistle
i can't whistle either!
Skippy our friend ever truuuuueeee!
Darn Jac I can't do that I have gaps in my teeth. Himselfs mother has the best whistle ever, the joys of growing up in the bush
B*gger, Herin's given me the ear worm now!
This is the song that doesn't end it goes on and on my friend
One whistle I can't do, always wanted to be able to do, should be able to do (since I have a gap between my front teeth) is the 2 fingers in the mouth stop a taxi whistle.
Nah I used to just hike my skirt up a tad higher to get taxi's
LOL Herin!
Speaking of making sounds - did you see this link I put on FB the other day? http://www.wimp.com/animalsounds/
<---drives by in taxi
HI RURU
hi ruru!
hi herin jac
Hi ruru.
hi ruru!
cute icon jac
Thanks Ru you just reminded me to change my icon
hi again sue.. hi jenmo
----> runs into ruru
ha, finally got all the n's. More grading.
oh there it is
I should be running to the store for dinner stuff.. i'm feeling lazy
Herin - this link is bizarre but funny http://www.wimp.com/vaderkilt/
call out for pizza?
Ruru, since when did you drive by a pretty lady with a skirt hiked up (in your imagination)?
Hi all.
every day jill.. every day
hi, jilli!
Hawaiian pizza for me please, sue. 4 slices will do.x
not in your imagination, I'll bet, ru.
Hello jilli.x
<---I have a wild imagination jilli..lol
Hawaiian pizza coming up!
hi jilli1
Oh, you should see what I do in my dreams....mmm
I actually had nightmares last night.. running from a gun man
good heavens, I don't want *anybody* to see what I do in my dreams!
I have those too -- somebody stole my car just before I woke up
Jilli - men, especially truck drivers who see things from above, drive by many women showing more than they think they are showing, including young mothers with pushchairs/strollers who don't realise how much they're displaying when they bend over to see to baby. I know this, 'cos I'm a trucker's moll and have ridden alongside. LOL
and I keep losing my purse and MasterCard.
yes.. I was running to get to my car and drive away.. but my legs wouldn't work
ach, poor ruru!
okay.. i'll be back later I have to get to the store before it closes..and we don't eat..
Dreams are weird, scarey, sometimes wonderful, but most times just bloody confusing! LOL
late dinner, eh ru? Just finished mine -- and easy one.
Tight Icon changed
btw, I'm not even halfway and I don't care.
Lovely icon, herin -- where is it?
Jac I saw that.
Jill Russel Falls Tasmania. one of mine
Looks so peaceful, Herin.
Mount Field National Park in Tasmania. Thanks. I am still thinking of putting them up on the wall as canvas prints
We had slow-roasted shoulder of lamb set atop potatoes and carrots last night. Easy for me to prepare and bung into the oven to cook for 4 hours and then do a couple of boiled green vegs to go with it. Not easy for the rest of the family, who all arrived home about 2 hours earlier than they 'should' have done to keep smelling and slavering over, though. ROFLOL.
Jac do you use oven bags?
grading done, now I can get the last 9 words (8 of them starting with s)
Jill it was lovely and close to mum and dads
Imagine the smell of roast lamb with garlic and rosemary teasing you. (Unless you're a vegetarian. If so, tune out now!)
herin - No. I use a closed roasting tin or casserole dishes. Why?
Because that is how I do slow roast pork and lamb
My easy supper was just a one-dish job -- a big can of diced plum tomatoes, one cup of raw rice, 3 celery sticks cut into half-inch pieces, topped with 1 lb of sausages, bunged into a med oven (350 in North America) for about 90 minutes.
Herin - if you're doing slow roast pork in plastic, I assume you're not aiming for pork crackling? (That's the skin and fat above gone all crispy and lovely.
I can't do crackling so I don't.
But your slow-roasts sound wonderful. Cooking for one is a whole other thing.
Jill that sounds good
jilli - did you add any seasoning or herbs to that?
Oooooh, pork crackling!!! Megadrool!
herin - crackling is easy once you crack it! LOL
Haha Jac. I have taken many a years to perfect Yorkshire Puddings
No, jac -- delish as is but can be played with -- maybe some basil... .
fireworks! thanks to jacula for the list!!
Cooking for one is, I admit, a whole other thing. However, for many meals you can forget that mentality and cook for 2 or for 4 and freeze the excess. Eventually you end up with lots of meals you can just defrost and heat.:-)
Sue - well done!*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Yah sue
I do that a lot, jac -- coq au vin, boeuf miroton, my own chili, etc etc
I just sold my single person fridge. It was great when I lived alone
jilli - glad to hear it!xxx (Love from your Chief of Is Jilli feeding herself properly? Police.)
clue for en5/12 pls
really big, leo
O Jill I forgot to ask how is your ankle?
I have a normal fridge in the kitchen and an upright freezer in the garage where I keep all those things plus bread and lots of other stuff.
yeah really
oh
I went from a 250litre to a 500ish litre
thanks...duh moment
jilli - don't forget to whizz your stale bread up for breadcrumbs to make other meals. Stick the breadcrumbs in your freezer.
np :-)
The ankle is doing much better -- almost normal walking, but still an open wound on the leg which is healing gradually -- gets treatments once a week now. Thanks for asking. It's a good thing I cancelled the trip!
Jac you are freeking brilliant. I just got a food prosessor. Great thinking
Any more clues needed?
em 4/8
Jac, I've frozen old bread and made a great bread pud with brandy sauce -- yum!
herin - Oh! Unexpected praise moment there. If you need any recipes or ideas, just email me.x
Thanks I just have to remember that we have it. I made a vegie pesto for mum when she was here.
jilli - you can do much, much more with breadcrumbs. I'm sure you know that, though.
em4/8 is the plural of a physics term, don't know how to clue it any better
(but knowing that and the point count should give it to you)
Yes, Jac (re breadcrumbs) but I don't want to -- I don't enjoy cooking. I do eat a very balanced diet -- remember my degree in Biochemistry and Bacteriology? No fads for this kid.
<-- brb, checking email...
how many left leo?
hi b..20
em4/8 - imagine a script. Emma - 'Charles, I am leaving you because you seem to prefer rasberry jelly to me!' Charles - 'You are kidding, aren't you?' Emma - 'No, I am not!' Charles - 'Em! For F**ks Sake!'
Hope that helps re the em4/8 clue.
go girl!
O My kitty pandora has been all snuggly. I feel that she is using emotional blackmail because I have to take her to the vet tonight
Herin - why?
i tried that once and it didnt take it???dunno
but thanx
Check up and injections. She also has a burn on the back of her neck from flea treatment
Ah. Hope it goes okay Herin.
I'm off now. See you all next grid. In the meantime, Happy Babbling! x
I hope that her fur grows back. So not impressed.
Night Jac
night, jac!
and I am off to bed too, see you all tomorrow!
And I am off to play skyrum
skyrim even
ok I cancel that. I have 68 left I may as well finish
does anyone know what's going on with MrP and Lickety? Just curious.
Hi Mom. They are busy with kids and life
Just hoping things are looking up for them. Rough go of it for a while. Tks, herin.
I just think two kids in or near high school makes life bust
busy
Ah, yes. Been there, done that!
You had a cute kitty
He was my pretty boy. Still finding little reminders of him on clothes from time to time. But having a grandbaby arrive the morning he left us took a bit of the sting out of losing him. Our lifestyle now (retired, busy and traveling) isn't conducive to having another kitty. Maybe so4-day. Think I'm gonna get so4 shut-eye now. 'Til the morrow!
Night Mom
Night Herin

HI Book
hi herin
how you going
eh, lingering cold/flu/crud
how's you?
Whiskey that solves everything
not me, can't handle that stuff, or alcohol in general, or strong allergy medicine either lol
O
phantoms: hooey, sooey, etc
Mine is Hoon.
hoon? what's it mean?
It is usually associated with someone that drives in a reckless and foolish manner
oh, hey, a driving word! i collect those
I can't think of what the USA would call it
hey, it's in the wikipedia! oh, we have lots of words for reckless drivers, like jerks and assholes LOL
We have anti-hoon driving laws
These last 25 words are proving elusive
i seen there is also a "hoon tan" -- i get one of these every summer, a one tan arm and one not tan, from driving a lot
I call that drivers tan
I don't think I'll find the last 7
Maggie They hide
yes they do! plus my tired eyes are going crosseyed.
And the more you search they more they hide
i'm working on designed a driving sleeve, to wear on the one arm to protect it from "hoon tan"
i have 46 to go and pretty much stumped
Book you get an old mens shirt and cut it off at the sleeve and pin it to your top
herin, that's the plan. the shirt i was gonna use developed a tear in just the wrong place, so now i need another shirt
We do that here
Well I don't as I don't have a licence
we are just getting into warm waether here, so garage sale season will be starting up and i will find a shirt quick, i expect
@broll...my math was wrong..had 30 now have 18 and can't take it anymore
You can do it Leo
the screen is dancing
well, you sure came close! "Tomorrow is another day"

Broll it does
especially if I leave the grid temporarily and come back.
Have you tried refresh?
eek. 15 left!
and hi all
who has list? LOL
jac does.. dee im sure

em 4/8, 3rd ho 4/5, 3rd ho 5/12

See, that's the problem.
em4/8 is em + make a *i*t with your hand to punch someone
