dee, finally started landscaping our backyard.:( have removed top 6 inches of soil( full of buttercups, dandelions and buffalo grass) at the moment it looks like a bog. have had a fair bit of rain last few days. why now? she as4
LOL dart... and we're spending a freaking fortune on yard guys for both yards until hubby's knee is fixed...
because our backyard is predominantly clay, and in the dry weather it sets like concrete, so.....
wow rose, hope you didn't start too early
sounds like a HUGE job
lol, dee, i didn't, but the guy i am paying did. about 7:30am.
it is huge. but will be worth it. mother mac is so missing being able to get into the garden to 'play'. this is stage one of her escape plan.
how long will it take him to get your work completed?
granny -- "add clay to sand, it makes your land -- add sand to clay, it washes away." We went through that with our first littlw house and garden.
about 3 weeks. we are going to top the soil with fine stone, compacted down, so that mother mac and her wheelie walker can negotiate it.
sounds like a good idea
good little ditty jili
Some wise gardener quoted it to us, dee.
sounds very wise
fireworks...sa4 list
wtg dart!!!
impressive with these words
great going, dart!
once in a while can do it without any help...but most times, esp. this grid, morewords got a big workout
I have 85 left and that's enough for tonight -- farewell all, and...*poof
jilli, in the garden beds where i had mulched( before ankle surgery) the soil is so good, if you stand still long enough, you will grow roots.
WTG DART!!!!
bye jilli
jilli, sleep well, hun, see you at the flip
lol rose
nice, granny! *repoof
I actually found a yellow rose bush in my back yard today; I was sooooo excited... didn't even know it was there
oh, dee, my absolute favourite flower...the rose.
mine, too!
especially yellow ones.. 1st ones I every received... on my 16th birthday LOL
then there's forget-me-nots, lilies of any kind, geraniums, pelegoniums, orchids, fuschias, ginger, .....
can you grow orchids outdoors rose?
I love blue-purple irises and daffodils... as 1st flowers of spring... love those colors
I love to see forget me nots and lily of the valley together
dee, i have one called golden jubilee, was my first husband's grandmother's. when she moved into supported residential care, she dug it up and gave it to me. i think it was named for one of the british monarchs ( quueeen victoria?)
lovely flosey
dee, i also have yellow, brown and deep burgundy irises
what color granny?
I don't think I have ever seen the brown ones
golden jubilee is a lovely deep yellow, with a heavenly scent
oh, deep burgundy would be gorgeous
oh, and white irises also
lovely... yellow do not usually have a great scent - how perfect!!
but i have 2 favourites in particular...cecil brunner and lorraine lei
why are they your favorites?
my parents had a hedge of lorraine lei's across 150 foot frontage of the land our house was built on.
oh wow, hope someone saved a photo of that; how beautiful
to keep me amused, and probaly out of her way, my mother would send me out to ' dead head ' the bushes. quite a lovely delicate scent, mid-pink with a yellow heart
bet that kept you busy
ceil brunner's....are a tea-rose, ver small pale pink roses, with a scent to die for. ever smelled the talc roses, roses. that's cecil brunner. it wafts right across our yard. sometimes in summer, our sheets come in perfumed by the roses
had some tea roses in our wedding bouquets; regular roses and long spider mums... lovely combination...sounds perfect!
eventually, when the landscaping is finished, i plan to have pots of rosemary, lavender and sage growing around the base of our weash-line. the oils released scent the wash as it dries.
off to bed here, goodnight Dee and Rose 78 words for tomorrow
night, flosey, sleep well, hun. see you at the flip
nite flosey
do you have to bring in your herbs during your winters?
no, dee. winters aren't too harsh. they seem to survive quite well
oh, and dee? do you realise that my grandson, deacon,is 4 and my grand-daughter turns 2 this year.
that is great; I wasn't sure what your winters were like
wow amazing!!
just where did the last 4 years go?
Have been wondering the same thing. Your Christmas this year will be a blast.
How have you and hubby been feeling?
dee, i don't FEEL 60....why can't we sustain our youthful vigour?
How have you and hubby been feeling?
dee, i don't FEEL 60....why can't we sustain our youthful vigour?
great question
hubby didn't feel his age until his knee has been giving him fits... he looks older now while he's dealing with the pain; hope he gets rid of some of the new lines in his face when they fix his knee
blast, the 2:00 hiccup caught me again.....we are tired, mother mac's level of care has escalated. her falls are more frequenet. just recently, i had to remind himself, that WE are her eyes. he has to be very watchful. the other day, he completely ignored the fact that aglass on her table was coated in food and saliva.
yikes
dee, advised ruru re pain away cream, which i use for my knee, and any other muscular/bone ac4s. same offer goes to you. email me your address, and i will send a jar across for you/hubby to try.
I'll ask him... not sure if pain cream will help since it is a meniscal tear
i use it everyday, especially more so if i am working. it's part of my bath/shower routine. it goes on as i dress.
Are you still working now?
this cream reduces inflammation, bruising and oedema from injury....i didn't believe it would help me...but it definitely gets me through the better part of the day.
good to hear
dee, can't afford to not work...still paying off the house son and his wife are living in. the son who is still an apprentice, and his wife's pay is a pittance. only way i can help them.
I understand that
let me know, dee. will send it ASAP, if it works...what has hubby to lose, except the pain.
I'll check tomorrow.
Well, dear, sweet friend, I must move toward bed :)
Take care of yourself!
ok, dear friend, til tomorrow. sleep well
* poof *
Keep me posted on your landscaping!
sleel well!! Hugs!
*poof*
good morning. As usual, I seem to come on when everybody has gone to bed!
hello ruby I have been waiting for you
{{westford}} I am very happy to see you
I've been playing less, lately
especially since husband's daughter was here and "fixed" my computer
same here ((ruby)) I keep missing you
don't you just hate that
I really have my hands full here with husband's declining health and memory and my new (crazy, but wonderful) puppy.
otherwise was it a good visit?
And my old girl Ruby has declined as well, since Max's departure
oh the puppy..I received the picture you sent..he's just darling
She was very helpful and easy as a guest, but talked and waved her hands around constantly. Also, it didn't please husband very much; all he has done since her departure is carp about her inadequacies
Noise!
poor man these should be his golden years
hah, golden years!!!!!
and poor you too..it's hard to stay in a good mood when you keep getting pulled down
isn't your son due soon?
he wanted to come on his way to India on a biz trip, but couldn't arrange it as the logistics were too tough. And then, while there, he tore a tendon in his calf, so it pretty much spoiled the trip
oh no
never rains but it pours
and now, at home in Austin, he's too stubborn to stay offit. I hope his injury doesn't jeopardize this new and wonderful job!
how did he manage to do that?
just turned his foot while sightseeing and heard a "pop"
ouch
he's too heavy, I think, and that contributed to the injury
they never stop being your kids
won't his wife ride herd on him for awhile? lol
he's 48, but I still worry
she is very lackadaisical
are you having a lovely Spring at least?
now that the rain has stopped (it rained every day during DIL's visit), it is very beautiful and yesterday was the first time I've spent in the garden -- just weeding
and getting my first big dose of vitamin D
gotta love that sun
we have your past weather now..rain and cold all week..even had some nights below freezing
this weird winter killed several plants: my beautiful fig tree, the pampas gras, several chrysanthemums and two buddleias. The only one I care about is the fig
nights are still in the 40's, but I don't mind that as long a it isn't raining. The mud was really getting out of hand
that's a shame..can it be brought back?
I remember being jealous of your warm, beautiful and long spring
I think we are a little bit far north for figs and we had very warm weather in Feb and then an extremely cold 10 day (I think) period which did those plants in
spring here is usually glorious
the weather has been nuts everywhere
and they say "bah humbug" to global warming! It has become total global weidness -- more and worse storms, unseasonable hot and/or cold, etc
the day of the Boston Marathon on April 16th it was close to 90
they were dropping like flies
and that woman died, no?
I didn't hear about that
she was only 30, near to the finish, and it wasn't her first marathon
I just read that 800 young American athletes die every year from undetected heart problems
then I am glad our son-in-law didn't participate
(I could be misremembering that number, but it shocked me)
that's probably true
sil and daughter flew out here from San Diego..we all went into Boston the night before the race..he's done several marathons..and the night before went up to the North End for a pasta dinner
sounds like a smart fellow!
he got sick during the night..thought it was food poisoning but was going to run any way
did your daughter convince him not to?
he and Wendy were up at the Common waiting for the bus to take him to Hopkinton where the race starts..and he was sick 4 more times
at that point she said..
"That's it.
smart girl! like her mother
are ypou talking about the girl that died in the London Marathin last week. She was running for Samaritans and in the next few days over a million £ was donated to them on line in memory
men can be so stubborn
oh deeha..that's so tragic and inspiring at the same time
aaah, I mixed up the two marathons (mea culpa)
and hello deeha
turns out it wasn't food poisoning after all ..Wendy came down with whatever he had the next day
Hello all really shouldnt be here was meant to be on a bus by now but just looked up a book I wanted to order from library ...and you know how it is!!!
"paralyzed by intellectual pursuits, deeha"
ruby usually makes cocktails at this time..I was hoping she'd invite me in
half an hour left for me before the mister wants his Campari
and the sun isnt even over the yard arm yet I like your style Ruby!!

uusue...are you officially retired yet?
Good day Babble buddies.
Hi Scrabbler!
not yet, car, my party is today but my official last day is June 30
How exciting, Sue!
but my last class was yesterday; finals are next week, and once they are graded I won't have much more to do
hi, scrabs!!

Hi Scrab, sue, bubba

hi lbd
et al
hi bichon and kje!
Party today sue.
PARTY! PARTY! PARTY! :-)
Do you have your speech done?
speech?
for your party?
Hi kje and Bichon!
I'll probably just spend a couple of minutes thanking everybody, saying what fun it's been, and threatening not to go away :-)
ok, found it
Nobody at Wesleyan who retires [profs] seems to go away. They stay and do research
Spew wisdom and lessons learned.
it looks like I will probably have a PhD student to supervise over the next year, and my chair wants me to come back and teach some special courses - retirement for faculty mostly means no more committees :-)
sounds like heaven usue
exactly :-)
do you keep your office sue? Wesleyan has a special house for retired profs to hold office hours
I'll keep it until they need it for someone else; I told the chair that if he wants me to teach I will need an office
my office is already far away from everybody else's so it probably won't be in much demand
okay, kje...new maxine for you.
:-( Today is my father's birthday and 1 mo since he died. He is so missed.
{{Scrabs}}
(((Scrabs)))
oh, scrabs, I am so sorry!!! anniversaries are very tough. How is your mom doing?
so sorry scrab - was the same with m y mom. died dec 14, bd 1/10 - totally sucks. hope you took the day off
Mom is doing better than I expected. She is sad and does cry, but she is making good decisions with moving forward.
Scrabbs, I am so sorry
I am happy to hear that. With all the support she is getting from you and the family, it must be easier for her.
I am still quite numb most of the time, sad, and having episodes of severe anxiety.
Scrabs, my Dad died over 6 years ago and I think of him every day
that is normal, scrab... it has only been a month, your emotions are bound to be labile
Scrabbs, Bobby's Dad died March 2011 and he is still upset. He speaks of him a great deal.
Every so often it hits me. He died, he's gone.
A gentleman who truly was like a father to me, passed away almost three years ago. I think of him all the time and light a candle in his honor almost every Sunday. He is buried in a cemetary right down the street from our house. Whenever I drive by , I can see the hill where he is buried and I say "Hi" to him. I miss him so much, but I know that he is with me all the time.
but he's still alive in your heart and memories
((Bobby))
good morning Babblers ")
Hello Nono!
Hi Nanette
hi nono!
gm, nono
hi nono
and hi annie!
When we were at the wedding reception last weekend, I kept seeing him. It was really weird.
hi sue...have a great time at your party tonight
I am not sure if I will go to the cemetery today. I don't feel like I must go there to be with him. His body is there, his spirit is everywhere.
Scrabs all the firsts are tough but you seem to have strong family ties and that will help you all make it thru
what are the stats for the 9 please
clue for os 7/32
hi ((annie))
It is important to remember that Scrabs. I know so many people who feel guilty because they don't go to the grave. That is just a marker. The spirit of the one you love is with you...all the time!
tr 9/72
Scrabs, that is exactly the way I feel about cemeteries.
Hi Molly!
hi (((dawg)))
ty annie
don't have it matches.
Annie, does it have to do with the throat?
its a plural nono
I have conversations with my Dad. He would have loved watching the hockey play-offs too, any sports events.

That is awesome Scrabs1
Hi Hurshy
Hello Hurshy!

Your Dad, Car?

Car, as a friend of mine says, "it's a thin veil between there and here, we just don't see through it most of the time".
bye, car, good luck to your mom!
Hope your Mom feels better, Car.
Exactly! I do try to be open to it though.
bye Car.ee hope your mom feels better soon
Thank you all! {[hugs}} and Love to you all today.
Breakfast feast for all! Pancakes, waffles, French toast, oatmeal, cold cereals, eggs, toast, bagels, fruit, tea, coffee...anything I forgot?

name that automated coffee machine that takes the single serve coffees and teas and such.tis in the grid today
cant do, crossy, it's a word
is it??
it is not taking it
Name that Proper Noun - Austrian dessert!
W B Ma*** is the one I have
Is there another?
we must be thinking different machines annie
I think we are, crossy
keurig?
saico is in the grid but not accepted
its competition holly
the japanese watch...spelled seiko
and good morning again, was up too early but went back to bed
howdy flosey
coffee machine is saico
never heard of that one
ahh, not much into fancy coffee machines.
hi crossy, lbd, Annie, holly
saeco
hi flosey
daughter & sil bought us one for Christmas a few years back and thoroughly enjoying it
hi flosey, erda, crossy, holly
we love the machine because we are not forever throwing out half pots of tea or coffee
and if one person wants tea and another coffee and a third espresso,it is an easy thing
howdy lbd
love my Keurig --- on our third one
I still prefer the kettle for making tea
hi flosey:)
ok,times up anyways,our machine is a tassimo
agreed re kettle for tea, flosey.
Pavoni here
i'm never in so much of a hurry that i can't wait for the kettle to boil.
and if i am...there's the microwave.
like i say, when you are doing 4 different orders,it is much better
my son loves his fr vanillia,my mrs is a coffee fiend while i enjoy my ceylon pekoe tea
phantom, ostrich
acck! invisible flightless giant birds!!
ah, coffee only in the morning here
have you eaten ostrich meat?
coffed burns me too badly nowadays.bad gut rot
invisible flightless giant birds what are good eating
some have been raised on Van. Island
no but i have had bear, snake, groundhog, moose, deer, elk,bi son ..etc
I don't care for the wild meat, has a stronger flavour
crayfish,porcupine,squid,octopus,eel
did have bear once, they tried to tell me it was just like beaf, perhaps?
We had a tassimo and never used it. My hubby ended up taking it to work with him.
it is a very, very gamey meat flosey
i'm with you, flosey. not into wild meat. although bison is good and an occassional moose.
bear is too gamey, greasy, and tough! gag
like i said,very gamey
they're selling bison here now in the Grocery store, I'm told it's better than beef - healthier?
much healthier, very lean
no snake is very nice, rattler chunks battered and deep fried..mm
bison is a nice meat flosey
almost any piece can be compared to a prime cut of beef
and moose of course is nice but very lean ,so you must add to it sometimes
so I'm told, not as fatty but just as tender?
wow...my chat is sooooo slllooooowww today!
that happened to me a few days ago Krysten, red boxes and messages not taken
a whole lot tender! i love bison. wish we could afford it in roasts and steaks. burger is okay, but rather expensive for ground meat
I think it's the network at work here. Always hit and miss.
tadone!! finito!! twisty tricky grid.
wtg lbd, good for you
15 to go here
yay for dawg!!!!
go flosey!

howdy ruru

thanks scrambler
*looks around and wonders if there are kitchens in padded cells*
ma8/50 what happened to custer out west
i should say his armies as he left his brother and rode away
oh! Thanks!
he did? I thought he died too?
he did die but not on the front lines with everyone else!
bad boy
hence the name yellowtail
on the other hand, dieing is overrated
supposed to have left for a fresh horse. His bros lay dying as her returned to die, yes it is overrated! :3
wow.. scrambler.. I didn't know that.. I know he was a savage monster and mercilessly killed innocent indians
no place like Babble. I learn something new every day.
yes he was a savage and monster and serial killer! The sioux called him yellowtail not just for that but for his other murderous acts like killing women children etc
so despiccable.
le sigh!
yes.. I read a book about him.. but it surprisingly didn't cover that battle.. it was more about how the indians were removed from the west
sanitized history, ru
good morning all
hi via
most people don't want to know how bad it was
hi viajes!
Did you ever read Black Elk Speaks or the Battle of Little Bighorn, great reads! See you later, must work! hi viajes!:3
bad, cruel, ugly. down right barbaric
I read the battle of little bighorn..
Battle of Little Bighorn, yes. Will look upp the other one.
black elk speaks and battle are both very good books. both are often used as supllementalhistory books here
that is a very good thing, if you ask me
supplemental (space) history...

ty uu
ty sue
how was your party or has it not happened yet
it's this afternoon, bichon
so you'll be saving your appetite
?
are you excited about the moon?
Is the moon next Tues?
no more than usual, jmc - it's not that much bigger than average, and the difference won't be obvious
full noon is tomorrow night
no * disappointed look* the news said 15% bigger and 20% brighter
right column done, woot
wtg book
which column do i tackle next, hmmm
hopefully it'll be clear here in the NE. Been overcast for days
15% would be the area, so the diameter is about 8% bigger; 20% brighter you could tell if it did it all of a sudden but it's not going to knock your socks off (any more than it always does...)
I am more excited about the transit of Venus, which happens in June
well i always like a full moon and if it is not cloudy i will go on my roof saturday night and enjoy it (but never drive during a full moon)
cool i will look forward to that too then uu
at least the moon is getting a whole lot of (otherwise dense) people talking about something marginally scientific
next transit of Venus isn't for another 105 years
right column greyed (following books footsteps)
hmm i will probably be dead by then. . .
yea jm!
yes, gwen, and I am all in favor of people looking at the moon in wonder! I just don't want them to be disappointed.
so, a transit of venus means it does what?
Venus moves directly in front of the Sun
catches the metro
it allows astronomers to do detailed measurements of its atmosphere and of its size (and probably other stuff)
it goes in front of the sun on a train? cool! LOL
:-D
so if i had a digital camera would it burn out if i took a picture of that?
probably; you should use a filter (there are ways of taking pictures of the Sun, but they all involve filters)
I look at the moon in wonder, and it has nothing to do with scientific facts. : )
(putting camera, filter, and train on my shopping list)
gwen, check this out: http://www.transitofvenus.org/
(book i think the train may be too expensive to buy)
and I do too, Molly; the scientific facts enhance the wonder for me...
i was at a store the other day and they had a whole train for $30 and it also had some track!!! LOL
<--- always wanted a train set growing up
innerestin' stuff , there, sue! (on the website i mean)
I'm looking at the android app...
but was the $20 train big enough for Venus? I think not!
i have bookmarked the page and put the date on my calendar
i agree, venus is a fine lady and would not get on a $30 train
well, appointment looming, gotta fly, poink!
bye gwen!
hi all. can i have a clue for ac7
no....lol
please, sorry.don't know where my manners went
its still no.....

hi jmc :) how's your pole dancing going??
Hi jmc.....

o i have moved on to having a picnic on the beach with molls

lol jmc. sounds lovely, hoprfully your not wiggling your tassles!!:)
not at a picnic! and i never wiggled them i twirled them!
oooooo....dissing our warm beer, how very dare you!! lol i hate beer so you're alright! i'm refined and like anice glass of dry white wine!
I am sure that molls packed some white wine!

card's from american greetings
<---Loves free stuff. And sons who send their Mom's nice Mother's Day cards. : )
2.50 for acard is a lot for me now that ryan lost his job so im glad i can do somethingfor my mom now :)
Oh crap, I didn't know Ryan lost his job. Sorry to hear that.
out of nowhere too. hes gonna try for unemployment and food stamps but the 7-11 across the street said theyd hire him end of month
Well, I'm glad he's got a good lead on another job. And a husband who is a savvy food shopper. : )
yes :) we'll be ok. i hope anyway lol
You keep believing that and that is what will happen.
if unemployment comes in then it'll be fine.
ar5 please?
a betel palm
thanks
yw
how about the as5/10?
any of several slender Brazilian palms of the genus Euterpe,
ah or the saint francis ty :)
yw
Cos, the only reason unemployment would not kick in is if he was fired for misconduct of any kind. Otherwise, he should be covered.
I thought St.Francis was from assisi
yikes ur right
molly i agree so im not to worried
He was, close enough.
Never question a former novitiate
im ashamed. that was my confirmation name :(
The nice thing about unemployment is that you can file on line now. It doesn't take too long.
Can I offer a clue before my guests arrive?
right. and he's already gotten statments from them
cosdem, you chose assisi?
Yep
I picked Kathleen, at my mom's insistence
ance?
Well I must close for now. See you all later
I picked Patrick. Really pissed the Bishop off, but what was he going to do? It was a Saint's name AND it was his name. I was such a BAD little Catholic girl. : P
LOL love it
Hey, I was born listening to the beat of a different drummer. : )
my priest marched to his own drummer too. he's pretty pro-gay rights
Well, the way I see it, that is just adhering to the original message of the religion. To love one another. That was a blanket statement with no stipulations on it.
I don't think that's the main tenent of Judaism. It seems to be following the laws of God
You're right Bich, I was referring to Catholicism.
sorry Molly, just jumped in here
No problem Bich. I can discuss religion without getting all wild and wooly. : )
I think Catholocism is more involved with loving one another [in a religious sense] than other religions
Hi all good luck!
in
does anyone have ma8?
killing spree cos
duh one of my fave movies ty
yw
ma 8 is relating to the ma 5/12
sorry, that was ma 7
Tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo! Remember to use fresh lime juice in your margaritas, ole!

what you might get if you have cancer
tbx bichon - tried that earlier and it didn't accept it - went in this time
Some of the mid-season "trial" shows like Awake are really good. I'm hooked on "Touch" and "Scandal" too.
yvw Kaz
I like Awak, but don't care for Touch.
we love Touch - its really intriguing as well
I think Kiefer is miscast in this role.
Oh, I love Sutherland in this role. I think he has a great connection with the boy.
2 Babblers, two different opinions :)
Im not too worried who plays what - there are very few folks i won't watch on Tv
st7 please?

Heya pe4/5 ..
*Nudges Tor* Peri isn't in the grid today.
I know ..
how's life tor?
Not bad .. Been sitting home on disability for weeks ..
what happened?
oh, bummer - doing better yet?
Had a nasty staph infection .. Much better right now ..
glad you are feeling better, tor
st6/18 pls
Staph infections are awful. So glad to hear you're much better.
have to be careful, tor
st + cons. + butt
Bertha Butt, she's one of the Butt Sisters.
It kept coming back when the meds would run out ..
Right on ..
ty
Stubborn little buggers, those staph infections.
Anyhoo ...
It's pretty much Lurkers 'R Us around here these days Tor.
I guess most people are out having lives and stuff ..
((hugs for tor)) hey all!
Heya (((stid)))
how's life down south, tor? sunny? pina coladas on the patio? soft ocean breezes?
Pretty much nailed it stid .. Really beautiful here today ..
:-D *brilliant mama mind shines* LOL about the only thing for me today -- it's sunny at the moment, but has been very windy and at times raining quite hard. I am glad you have nice weather. You deserve it down there!

seems I'm chasing stid around everywhere---missed her on FB and now missed her here! Happy Friday ;-)
evening everyone. I have a headache. i have a headache every day almost. usually not head -splitting, but i take something for it. i think i'm abusing antihistamines. maybe that's it.
and, as long as i'm whining, i've been drinking so much coca cola that i have calluses on my left hand from opening the bottles. i think i'm abusing coca cola.
hello all...sorry you are feeling ill mab.
(((Queen Mab)))
thanks red. hypochondriac. hyposemitic.
or it is too much Coke. It is very high in caffeine
Hi Red
thanks molls.
I learned recently that diet coke has more caffeine than regular coke...
really?
yes. actually it seems to be true.
i can't abide artificial sweeteners.
good old high fructose corn syrup for me.
I went to diet and lost 20 pounds. Admittedly there are risks with those sweetners.
my ex and I that gum that is supposed to help one stop smoking, and we both got a little queasy. in the end i just quit.
the cigarettes and the gum
that is great mab. Cigarettes are hard to quit.
i still crave them sometimes.
I hear that from a lot of people who have quit that they never really give up the desire...it must take a lot of discipline.
i started late in life. and then i just decided it was too expensive.
and the health thing
when I am asked to counsel for smoking stopping, i usually focus on the money first. money is more immediate than health it seems for all of us.
Evening all. May I please have a clue for tr8-55? Thanks
i haven't got that one. am looking.
hi peach, I dont have it either.
Thanks anyway, mab.
Hello to my fellow babblers! How is everybody doing today
Thanks red anyway.
By the way, congratulations to all of the finishers! Hooray!
hi min
hi min,
FINISHED!!! VERY EXCELLENT!!!
Congrats, godthaab
Congratulations godthaab on your fireworks! Hooray for U!
tr8 an operation called a *****eotomy, and a kind of cancer, a melan***
very excellent indeed!
Thanks. A couple of words in here, eh?
Thanks so much, Uncover.
yes g. thanks un.
the tr9 is just the plural
Yes, thanks.
i always try 'sacher.' isn't that a type of torte? the edible kind.
It is. It was my guess the Proper Noun question earlier in the day.
too funny Mab I just tried that, and hello all
Hey there, meliae.
hiyas Peach ;)
hi mel. mi6, where i should be now
anyone here have a Kindle fire? I have found a very addicting game on it, called word hero
ooh. now i have a reason to want a kindle.
actually it would be nice to have a reader at times.
its like tangleword if you ever played that timed games, but no chat
you play against people all over the place
i like that, but i choke when i have to compete. odd..
I love my kindle I had the older version and just got the kindle fire, I am very pleased with it.
it does sound nice. getting titles inexpensively, not having to schlep books around... i'm beginning to see the light.
well let me put it this way I have around 300 books on mine and probably 280 were free from amazon
wow. that's amazing.
I can't get into the swing of reading on a screen. I have a Kindle, but don't use it much.
hard to write in the margins
It took me a bit too Molly, but once I got all the old classics and started rereading them i was hooked. Oh you can highlight and make notes Mab
May I please have a clue for mi6-24? Thanks
oh. it would really open up a lot of space around here.
looking peach I dont have it yet either
Thanks anyway, meliae.
minar
Sorry.
mi6/24...when someone on stage does it the wrong way
thank you Molly
Thanks much Molly, m'dear.
and plural for the 7 ;)
Thanks, meliae.
thanks
I have a few books, and Scrabble on my Kindle. I keep it in my purse. It's handy in situations where I have to wait. Otherwise, I'm still into real books.
I took mine camping and loved being able to lay in bed and read without having a lantern/flashlight. Yes I still also have piles of real books. I like the idea of owning the real copy of my favorite authors
i do love actual books too. even the smell of them. and getting a used book with a note inside the cover by the person who gave it to someone else, etc.
I've started collecting my favorite childhood books in the hopes of reading them to grandchildren. I am so taken with some of the sweet notes inside the cover to the children who used to own them.
I love getting cookbooks from second hand stores and reading all notes in them. That is one thing Kindle will never replace is cookbooks
ooo I just found the Boxcar children and was so excited cannot wait to read them to my grandkids
i saw a new yorker cartoon yesterday set in a distant time. it showed one man giving another a book and the latter says, 'it's nice, but it will never replace scrolls'
lol! love it
i love children's books
I do as well I am just as likely to read a children's book as any other, but I am a bookaholic I will read anything just about.
That New Yorker cartoon has been around for a while and is touted by everyone who is a rabid e-reader fan.
really... it just popped up on my face book. the new yorker is one of my news feeds, or whatever it's called. that's funny. it is a sort of obvious gag.
ugh does that ca 7/32 have anything to do with the ca 6 before it?
The thing about e-readers that makes me sad is what they have done to book stores and libraries.
nm got it... gambling house
oh yes Molly I so agree
yes, me too.
tare
yikes
You get four points for that one Mab. : )
my daughter got me my kindle last year I love it
brb C words are bad words lol need a glass of wine to go with them
what a nice gift, bekki. if i got one as a gift i bet i would really like it ( more than if i had to buy it)
I've said it before, but 8 hectares should be an octare
Amen 2Bit.
hmm in 5/10 please
ooo got the ma 8 go me
in5 ... in+ charged particle
thank you was going round and round those 1pt tiles lol
st 6/18 clue?
rymes with the green stuff that grows in your lawn, and not weeds, lol
tyvm
you're welcome
nice! thanx Meliae
Good clue Meliae. All I could think of earlier was rhyming it with br*** balls. : )
lol Molly took me a bit to think of something to rhyme it with
evening all
Hello jessdragon! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
I'm well, torg, how're you?
(Filling in for Min)
I'm well
as well
Well, well ..
Psssst...Tor...congratulate all the finishers.
Well, it's well that you are well!
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! Yay!
(or something like that ..)
Well done Tor. You've truly got Min's back. : )
I love Min. She's always cheerful and friendly.
She is, even when she's having hard times herself.
*pokes nose in* hey all -- **hugs meliae** Is Min okay? *worried mama look*
Hi stid :)
hey jes -- budgies are still bananas, otherwise critters are fine.
any new rescues?
haha! Have you tried feeding them bananas?
Hey stid and jes. I think Min is fine but I don't know for sure. The consensus is we like her cheerfulness
hey bugs! (((bugs hugs)))
Hi bugs :)
I haven't yet, but I think they actually ate a few of the shedded apple bits I gave them the other day
no, stid, no new rescues... though I'm sure there will be at some point. Coming on kitten season, you know.
yikes! kittens! *hides* they are worser'n kindergarteners! (I spent all day in kindergarten learning how to manage classrooms of them... it was fun, but exhausting even though I wasn't in charge!)
good analogy stid!
how's the retirement forecast, bugs?
only 33 more school days left stid. The countdown is going well.
woo-hoo! *needs more toes and figners for counting down* I am so looking forward to your retirement. hoping you'll be able to wander down this-a-way for a visit!
I am hoping I will be able to as well. I still don't know how much money I will get in pension but I am not worried because I am used to living cheaply
yes, I figure I shall work at least part-time until I can't see, hear or move. And then... *shrug* hopefully it will be sunny and warm from then on. LOL I really like to keep the heat turned up.
i am no good at words today. stuck with 107 left... so early to list.
I am down to 100 listless, jes
I am not ready for death yet but working full time is out for good and any work I will do will be on my own terms.
I figure you'll last a good long time yet, bugs -- you're not that much older than I am!
I had to list WAY early tonight jes. There are still some really weird words but the list helped a lot
death? NO DYING! Not allowed.
I am planning on working another 30 years!
At the rate my retirement fund is going, I'll have to work 15 - 20 years after I'm dead ..
I have no intention of dying for years jes. When I was young I took a train accross Canada and met a lady who read my palm. She said I would live a very long life and I intend to
LOL tor -- (only it's a sad laugh) -- at least you have a fund... right now I have neither social security nor my own retirement. Cashed the latter in when elder son was born and we needed money; haven't work enough in 20 years to be eligible for any SSI or SSDI.
good for you bugs!
I used to think that too Torgone until I learned how to lower my expectations. Cardboard boxes under a bridge might be ok now if it means I can quit ;-)
no boxes! If we have a house, you ALWAYS have a place to stay!
thanks stid. will there be room for Torgone too if he is not too smelly 10 years after his death?
Boxes are suboptimal in cold weather. There's a room in our garage though :)
we can put him in the wellhouse, I think... we don't go down there much because of the spiders.
*grins at tor*
Stop worrying for me! You are too kind. I don't really care where I am as long as I have a good book and I intend to visit the Library regularly after retirement. I have one big trip I would like to make but I think I will be happy to be home. I will work on being serene. lol
ah bugs, you're going to be fine, I know it
me too
I'm not too worried, either. I live in climate where would not be too bad to be outdoors most of the time. Besides, I have three children who are clever and resourceful, and would have no problem discretely discarding some doddering old person .. :)
I'll worry about it when I get old .. I barely feel like an adult, let alone an old one ..
LOL *starts making maps of dry canals and arroyos* tor, I hope I won't need these for a very long time.
well, down to 75. very tired (was up quite late last night and up early today) -- going to sleep, and see you-all tomorrow I hope! be well, and be happy (my wish for you) *poof*
Niters stid ..
sweet dreams stid

Hi Granny
how are we all? me...i'm disappointed with me.
oh :( why
I am tired
just had to take an endone for the pain in my knee. :( usually paracetamol does the trick, not this time. could be because we are going through some pretty chilly weather.
dr, late night for you?
yes, the weather is always bad for my joints
it is almost 10. I am up watching GRIMM and Babbling but will go to bed soon
ahhh, fellow sufferer. sympathy, empathy, love and hugs
thank you same to you - I have had surgery that makes my joints sore
last night i couldn't get off the couch. so painful.
hmmm. in line for knee replacement....is that what you have had?
