I'm allergic to cats; but we always seem to end up with one or another somehow. Most of the ones we get are farm cats; the one we have now was the Aunty's and she's declawed but was dropped off on a farmroad as a kitten (already declawed) and taken in by a friend of a friend of my daughters. They had outside farm cats and didn't know what to do with a declawed cat; no one claimed her; so she was passed along til Aunty got her at about 8 yrs old
Aunty passed away last year; Ashes in now about 13 I think
good on you guys for taking her in. poo on whoever dumped her in the first place.
It's amazing to me that someone would pay for declawing (and spaying!) and then dump the cat. She's really quite a nice cat;

Yeah... maybe. personally, i think much of it is laziness. I've moved (since adulthood, though for that matter, when we moved as a kid, we brought our animals with us) 8 times. So far I've always managed to find a way to bring the critters.
though there was that one bit where I lived in a camp trailer with my cousin for 3 months while looking for a rental...
and i have way more than 1 cat or 1 small dog.
as a homeowner, we've always brought our critters along. But I know that the condo Aunty lived in had a clause that they could bring in their animals but once they died they weren't supposed to get new animals (we ignored that rule)
my son's apt. complex allows cats but charges extra for them; but if we were to bring our little dog there even to visit for an afternoon; they would evict them!
there are lots of places that don't allow pets... i find somewhere else to live :)
well, they (son and DIL) had something in their background checks where they were turned down at another place.

there is a family at church that are training a young golden retriever to be a service dog. The dog is very well behaved; goes with them everywhere and follows word or hand commands; but it's also blind n 1 eye.

okay, thanks. I was out of town for the storms, stayed a night with friends, then we got power back on Tuesday, losing only the frozen foods and much of the fridge. :) Our power went out for a few minutes a couple times last night, so i think Dominion is hitting the individual outages now.
and yes, PEPCO (DC/MD) and Dominion (VA) still have about 1% w/out power.

Tom is putting insulated foam that has a mirrored foil side up in the skylights to keep the house cooler (theory). Otherwise, since the skylights don't open it gets really hot really fast on sunny days. Which we don't actually need this time of year!
