found an easy sounding recipe on pinterest the other day - sliced kielbasa sausage, sliced potatoes, sliced onions, cream of celery soup, cheese sauce,salt, pepper, garlic, cooked on low for several hours, add frozen or fresh peas for last 10 minutes...

we had sea sakt and vinegar chips, pork rinds, extra cheddar goldfish, salted pumpkin seeds, carrot and celery sticks, guacamole dip for them, smoked salmon bits with boursin cheese and crackers to put them on, sliced French baguette, peppered pâté, a wedge of brie, a slab of aged cheddar, assorted crackers, AND phyllo pastry cheese hors d'oeuvres, AND bbq chicken wings. And Patrick Taylor brought champagne to celebrate several things such as being on the best-seller list for the Dublin Student Doctor, finishing his next book, and getting others reprinted in paperback.

it is not that hard ruby,on your 500 cal day you know that in less than half a day or so you can eat whatever you want again but it easily cuts my monthly food intake by almost 50%
I would imagine that each 500-cal day shrinks your capacity a little
and it keeps the body out of starvation mode and the metabolism up
I find I'm less hungry if I skip a meal and have basically stopped eating dinner
and you would be surprised what you can make with 500 calories

heat sugar and syrup together in saucepan; stir constantly. Dissolve coffee in hot water and add to syrup mixture and simmer until sugar is melted. Stir constantly! Take off heat; add vodka and vanilla. Put in bottles and let age for 2 weeks

I made my own cookbook of recipes. Printed out alot of recipes on internet and put them in plastic sheets and I put them all into a three ring binder.Still add recipes to it.

DH's family have recipes for "dark Klub" (pronouned "Kloob") and "white Klub" and the dark Klub is blood sausage that they made themselves and then fried in milk; while the white Klub is a piece of bacon inside potato dumplings (Big dumplings)

the boil point of the sap almost boils over.. when reducing the sap to syrup they plop a lump of lard in to keep from boiling over

I made raspberry jelly this year, MIL doesn't like the seeds but likes the flavor. It's okay, but not as flavorful as the whole jam.
oh... i make seedless jam...amazing....i use a sieve and scrape out the seeds...takes about an hour of seiving ...getting all pulp but no seeds
( warming in microwave helps...and all i have is seeds when done)

I agree Min -- my limit is one hour for a "normal" commute. There was a job I think I would have been offered if I had applied, but it was out two hours away on the coast. I would have needed to rent a place to teach there.

I know our summer started so very slowly, that the figs and tomatoes and melons are all about a month behind.
another trick to ripen tomatoes is to put them near apples and bananas (or in a paper bag with them). The gas givien off by the apples helps ripen the tomatoes

I meant to write we grew tomatoes for the 1st time this year. Actually it was my husband who grew tomatoes.
Oh! Nef *proud mama look* I was afraid I would have to take out the last peach tree because although it was not bothered much by the "peach leaf curl" this year it was leaning WAY over. So we have gradually been pulling it up and back to vertical, and with a couple very small pruning cuts it is beautifully symmetrical again and we can walk under it on the path.
So I feel a little less like a failed orchardist.
Now I have to transplant two of my Asian pear trees to a sunnier location where they can be better protected from the deer.
And then wait for the leaves to fall to prune the rest of the fruit trees.
