thanks -- Pat played very well, I thought -- thank goodness!
Not that I expected anlything less
was thinking that, was she unsure about coming back?
quite a few new faces for her perhaps
yes
she feels that 0only having been playing once a week she's rusty, but that's not at all the case.
I wouldn't have thought that at all
I hope she can continue, with a pleasant partner. But she's worried about driving at night.
oh, is she not up near you?
I can understand her worry, with no lights along the way SSI can be very dark
no -- although I guess I could pick her up -- she's really not far from bridge, on Booth Canal Rd.
she has potential cataracts -- we both know what that's like.
ah yes, I had one bad fright, driving in the dark before having cataracts removed
btw all, save some good wishes for Canada's Sandy targets -- one death already in Ontario, I heard, when a big sign was blown down and killed a lady.
where was it Jilli
And there was another quake off Haida Gwaii, over 6 this time, but no tsunami.
jilli, did they give the location of the Ontario death?
haha, monkey found the ji4
sorry, flosey, I don't remember -- just caught a glimpse when I got home
I'll check the news
I have the news on now but it
s local at this point
6 is pretty good sized
in Toronto according to google
Thank you Liz! Fancy getting our news from Oz!
we were talking to a few today, in and around the Toronto area, no problems there
do you get many earthquakes up your way - we're holidaying up there next year
oh my!
We're told we get lots of little ones and we didn't feel the recent biggies at all.
let's hope it stays that way!!!
that's because they party every day in Salt Spring
Holiday exactly up where, Liz? If you're anywhere near here you"ll HAVE TO come for a visit!
sadly it's all tour group organised! not like us at all! doing 2 weeks in rockies then cruising to alaska - time also in vancouver and victoria
Almost true, ruru.
sounds like one cocktail soiree after another up there
If you can escape from Victoria, we're near there. Or let us know and we'll try to get there to meet you for a bit if possible.
if I can I will!
My email address is at the bottom of my profile -- please use it so I get yours
Will do - nearer the time - it's still a long way off!
Anyone who uses the REAL Tigger as an icon is close to my old heart.
Has to be E H Shepard - not disney!
Hear hear hear hear hear!!!!!!!

k peri - good zzzzzzzzzzz
I think that CNN should get an Emmy for "most annoying program". 5 minutes of news and ten of advertising for itself.
Reading over the chog now. I hoe everybody is OK
thats why i use my dvr.. tape all the programs i watch and fast forward the ads... good morning
ach, nobody here!
Good morning all...safe and sound here
good morning. I haven't seen any news yet
hello seaspray -- haven't seen you in a dog's age! How are you?
Good Ruby and you?
Weathered the storm well so far
our "replacement puppy" for poor Max has turned out to be the best chow chow, ever.
Oh, I am sooo happy for you...how old is the puppy now?
I am embarrassed for having whined about our vicious little windstorm on the weekend. All it did was scare the pups (Ruffino'\s first storm), but no big deal.
He is 10 months old and famulous
he's given new energy to poor old Ruby
fabulous* perhaps famulous is a portmanteau word.....
Awww, just like babies do for older people...wonderful....It has been raining here since Sunday afternoon (it"s Tuesday morning), lots of devastation elsewhere
I'm glad you are safe. I have never seen anything like what I was watching on the TV last night. As the reporters were taling, their ankles were being covered with floodwaters!
Morning babblers :)
hello no no
Several subways in NYC are filled with water, the coast was just battered
Hi Nono
yes NJ coast and NYC are a mess this morning
I think Bloomberg was smart to close everything so early, but it's a shame that the subways filled up anyway.
My sister is in NY, but her big concern was about falling trees.
Maryland took a pretty hard hit as well
yes it did
at midnight here (7PM there), 2 million people were already without power. Horrible
that was my concern here as well Ruby, but none in my imediate surroundings
The ground is so saturated, trees are falling over everywhere, but our power only went out twice and came right back
I called my friends in Maryland, but there was no answer, so I think they must have been evacuated. But they have a farm with horses etc.
that is lucky, sea spray. I wonder how Annie is doing, so close as she is to the ocean
Where in Maryland are they ruby?
Germantown and I don't know exactly where that is
I think someone said yesterday that she goes to her daughters at times like this
oh I hope so for Annie's sake
the last I heard, she and Bobby were sticking it out. But they live on the 20-something floor of a highrise near the ocean
the last time we communicated was on Sunday
Germantown is about and hour and thirty minutes from me, unless they are in a very low lying area they should be ok
ty, seaspray, I was sick with worry last night
That's where Molly lives as well
<-- sounded crazy in the chog!
hope annie and min check in today
I think we have come to truly care about each other, as artificial as this structure may be....
sometimes this is the only connection we have w/ the world outside our door
certainly that's true for me. Nobody in my village speaks English
taro
uh oh, time for me to make lunch
{{friends}}
i go to the oncologist this a.m. - that means this pirate has to dance in the rain closet sometime before 9
good luck with the oncologist! I think many of us in this community have share your "big C" experience

Enjoy your lunch Ruby
it will be 22 years for me this month! I am very lucky
{{seaspray}}
Amazing!
3 years for me this past aug
renfield, seaspray and I both had much-loved dogs named Max who we lost in the last year
One year and almost 4 months Ruby and I think of him everyday
my oncologist visited me in France several years ago and I confronted him with the uestion|" would you hve become friends with me, if you thought I was going to die?"
We lost our Max in March
I am on pinterest and I created a board in his memory :)
<-- doesn't know pinterest, but you know how I feel, seaspray!
I will never change my icon as that is my Max!
i lost my cocker 'zapper' this past month. i buried her - she came fr4 Texas w/ us and w/ us she will stay
{{renfield}} we now have 3 chows buried in our garden
What was his reply Ruby...I still have pictures of him everywhere and he is in my bedroom
Am sooo sory ren I know how you are feeling
love to you both
thanks ladies {{{{friends}}}}
you too ruby
grumble....there should be a law against doing tax return papers before 8 am..:((
Oh Crossy....how miserable
ex- business partner who is computer illiterate calls in a panic about some forms that have to be filed electronically..before end of business day today:9
What??? Does he not realize it takes time to set up electronic accounts? Can you file for an extension? At least he's an ex partner.
one of many reasons he is an ex i managed to set up a fresh e-account in 45min and thank god it was only 4 sheets of information
good morning, hope all are safe
Phewww...btw Crossy did you receive my email regarding joing the babble community on FB?

We got lucky here in central CT. Didn't even lose power. But, southern CT got hit very bad
am glad you are safe, bichone
sorry, *bichon
Daughter down by the shore lost power. If she doesn't get it back soon, I expect her up here
would be nice to have her safely with you, I think
The place I grew up in NYC, the Rockaways, is a disaster
it is devastating what nature can do
Holland has had its share of flooding sprite
all the pictures i've seen reminds me of the disaster films...my head keeps telling me it's all hollywood, even tho i know it's not. scary.
yes, we have. We are lucky though that we don't have the kind of enormous storms you get over there.
The dike helped.
dikes are good. And stuff in sea to break the biggest waves. But when nature is really violent, we humans are still pretty powerless against her.
The saddest thing is people refusing to leave their homes, then having to go to their attics or roofs
that always makes me so sad. Of course one treasures their possessions. But your life and that of your loved ones should always be the most important.
babble is being seasonal... second day that ac5 is in the grid.
i'd feel bad for those who stayed behind if there hadn't been sufficient warning. now all they've done is put the rescuers in harms way.
The thing about people refusing to leave their homes that gets me is that those people then create extra work for first responders when they need to be rescued from somewhere they shouldn't be in the first place.
I agree, Molly! My hubby and I were just talking about that last night.
LBD and I had a mind-meld.
it is always hard to judge people in panic situations... but I agree that the rescuers are in bigger risk than necessary because of it.
Good morning, everyone.
hiya trentsnana
hi trent
My aunt is in Fairfield, CT. Do you know anything about that?
hi trentsnana. mind meld with Molly...good for me...she gets short changed. ;)
Good to see you, TNana.
Last I heard, they had lost their power....
Good to see everyone, too. It's been awhile.
I'm in CT Tnana, assume they lost power
How is the new baby?
She is great. We are going to Michigan in about 10 days to see her again!
She is almost 3 months old and a real peach!
how lovely :)
Aw, grand-girlies are so special. : )
Our kids are throwing us a 30th anniversary party and then we will stay for Thanksgiving and the baby's baptism, then head back to Montana.
Stats for the "J" and the "E" next to it, please???
blessings all over the place, trentsnana!
Good kids, what a nice thing for them to do.
the E is en7/28
Yes, we are very blessed.

K - gotta go. Taking the neighbor to the "big city" today. Billings. It's a big deal for her to get out, so will be fun.
Have a good day, everyone. Stay safe, east coast.

Hi again all, back from taking my daughter to school .
hi Alleyn! Haven't seen you in ages, are you well?
wb smores :)
bye nana, be safe
Sprite. Yes thank you. Have been lurking but had two cataract operations which meant NO vision for three months as I had to take gas permeable contacts out as I had worn them for 50 years.
wb smores, hi alleyn. clue for the an7?
oh my... that is far from pleasant. Did it all go well? Can you see ok now?
nm, found the an7
Now have 20/20 vision! First time without specs or lenses since I was 3. Brilliant ........
an7 not found
an7, against + what we breathe.
that is wonderful! Am glad the results are so good.
wow, that is awesome Alleyn
thanks dawg
thank you ibd
Hello again. No work this morning because the school is closed, so I will have to do winter sports physical exam another day.
are you safe, Scrabs?
wb scrabs
hi scrabs. Alleyn, i'm jealous of the 20/20! wtg!
It is like a miracle......Hardest thing was ridiculous.....going to sleep as I have always taken lenses out before settling down. Was truly weird.
oh lol, I can imagine! Like not brushing your teeth :)
Exactly. Took several weeks!
Yes, when it became light out 2 hrs ago I scanned the yard and see no fallen trees. We have power but there are widespread outages around here and all of the schools are closed.
i think i'd still be searching in the morning...confused as to why i can see without the specs
lol..
aside
Any Kiwis here now? My friend will be visiting NZ in a few months and wants an insider's advice for places to stay and visit.
thnx Alleyn...lol
Now off to dentist......
am glad, Scrabs.
time to shower...bbl to finish.
TY Alleyn
bye ibd, enjoy your day :)
good luck, Alleyn!

hey pab :) Am good. Praying for all in the way of the storm.
thanks sprite, nyc really got hammered
glad they got your power back on, so many without it
it sure did
I know very fortunate
still have a high wind advisory in area though so won't be surprised if it goes back off
My sister in New Jersey still has no power--went out yesterday afternoon. fortunately it is not cold out so having no heat did not cause a problem.
glad we didn't get snow like other parts of u.s.
indeed. I hope the people there have enough blankets and sweaters and such
thats good Scrabbler that it didnt get too cold
hi all
sprite, I love your icon
hi peri, thank you :)
agreed sprite, don't think WV has as many power outages so hopefully they are ok
we are getting the left over rain and winds today
nothing bad like East Coast, so no worries here
yours is pretty scary, peri!
I did not think so when I bought it. I thought it was silly. it is a postcard. I will take it down soon. not many people seem to like it
power was out here for 2 brief periods but no fallen trees or flooding. thank goodness
it is definitely silly :D
:)
glad you are safe
I was on earlier and heard there was at least one in7. help pls
thanks
thats good peri - glad to hear youre ok
there are wet leaves all over the driveway . will have to sweep them away. since no one else here will do it

hi uusue
hi smores and pabtrek!

hi all! Sandy seems to have moved on from DC - leaves and small branches down here, but none the worse for wear
Hi Sue
good to hear, dan!
hope Annie's doing OK in Brooklyn up on the 23rd floor . . .
Lucky 2Bit family.
hi Dan - it's actually starting to get windy here - they have warnings out for Lake Michigan, are expecting 25-foot waves (we are nowhere near the lake, but Chicago is our local TV)
hang in there uu
we are no strangers to wind here, they're talking about maybe 40-50 mph, so we'll be fine.
Talking to NJ sister now. No power, perhaps for a week. No landline telephone service. She couldn't get to work due to fallen trees and wires. "War zone" is how she described it.
better call my dad...
oh my Scrabbler, is she well stocked
so she doesn't have to go out?
She is well-stocked but will want to buy greens for her bunnies in 1-2 days.
off to walk the dog, bbl
Talking to NJ sister now. No power, perhaps for a week. No landline telephone service. She couldn't get to work due to fallen trees and wires. "War zone" is how she described it.
tadone. finito. seeing the aftermath of the storm so far is just amazing! hope friends and families are all safe, on high ground and have provisions. has anyone heard from annie yet?
I have not heard from Annie or mymuse or JBV. Doren has a large tree over the front of her home. nrkii lost power yesterday afternoon.
will just have to keep checking and sending out my t's and p's that everyone is okay.
I'm back, had a Hitchcock Bird's moment
it was pretty freaky, about 200 or more starlings just swarmed my house

Good morning, Babblers! No rain, gentle wind, power still on, the creek is high but still within its banks on the low -- opposite from the house -- side. A bit chilly, but life is good. Nothing open, but life is good.
how are yall?
hi, smores, sue, gramma :)
so glad all is well with you, seain!!
hello. we awoke to lots of wind and 44 degrees in Florida ugh
Hi dc, glad to hear youre okay
oh, wow. that very frigid for FL. Guess that cold front was bigger than i realized.
brrr gram - that's chilly for you guys
Send some rain my way---we have a drought in Phoenix. I really miss thunderstorms. I was raised in Ohio. My godson is in D.C.
wish I could Mimic lol...tho we got no rain from Sandy
very dry here in Nashville as well, esp. after all the wind . . .
Sugarland Run - the creek -- is LOUD today.
may some rain come each yall's ways soon, mimi and une
tx :-)
Thanks, all. This is only my second time on this site. You guys are much more friendly than the folks on some other sites. There's a word game I really like (got through Big Fish but is available elsewhere also) called "Wordary." The second play option is my favorite. Gotta go. Later, folks!
bye, mimi
be well mimi
cold wind here in Indiana today - had wind chills on the 20's this morning - high today only mid 40's :(
bye mimi, come back and join us again
The hurricane dumped feet of snow at upper elevations in much of WV. I wonder if the ski resorts will open early.
A's annihilated, C's crushed, D's destroyed - time for a break - take care all, be back soon
later, smores
wondering same about East TN mountains -- last year winter was so warm, I think they had to keep the snow machines running all season!
back in a bit *poof*
i'm sure the radio and TV will be telling us soon if they're opening already.
new york city is a mess. my kids have no power in west hempstead and 5 babies under age 8 including newborn.
may their power be back on soon. I'm glad they're safe, mkg.
or7.44 from yesterday is here again.
LOL.. i've already forgotten it
Seain is just "mouthing" off Ru.
LOL molly :D
you came through the storm with power and well, molly?
anyone have the or 6/21?
ru, do you have the or5/12? add another vowel in middle
Starts like a whale, ends with most of what guides a horse.

thank you
I need a clue for or6/18 please?

It's a Scottish word, lad.
no power, there trees down. one on the front of my house, but not bad damage, just a gutter down and a bit of roof
Hope your power comes back soon.
very glad to hear, Doren. NJ and NY got hit hard.
hi Dorens, glad to hear you're ok, do you have any way of heating your home without power?
they told me not to expect power for ten days
they told me not to expect power for ten days
10 days? Oy!
clue for ac 7?
that seems about right for the amount of damage. Sigh. It's no fun waiting.
and it's getting chilly. can stay with a friend of mine but not until the streets are cleared
Glad you have someplace to go Doren.
yes, I'm actually very lucky. might not think that when i get the bill for r repairs
MKG, starts like uric or acetic ac** and ends with a shape

thanks for the fe DC
ty got it.

Aye, yer a wee scunner lad.
LOL molly :)
*Opens bottle of single malt, places out for all to enjoy*
Don't understand the fe 7 clue, help, pls
gaelic
No fe7, fe6 looks like a variant spelling for what Tinkerbell is
or a fe6 cross the Mersey :)
I have the 6, but it won't take a plural
Okay, now I'm doomed. That song sticks in my head in a very bad way.
There is no 7
ty Molly and seain
Birds! The birds are chirping/singing again. Always a good sign after a tropical cyclone :)
hi all
The birds are always chirping and singing here. Could be because of all that bird seed I put out though. : ) I had a bunch of them feasting the rain yesterday.
hi, peri
huh. surprised that they were out in the wind.
Hi Peri. How are things where you live?
fine, power went out a few times just for a few minutes. but all is well now
how are things with you Molls
how are things with you dc?
Doren, so sorry about the trees and no power
well, thanks :)
Things are great here. No tree damage, no power outage and we are enjoying a day off.
hego is also powerless. As i'm sure many in NJ/NY are. Likely Minver is dark too.
parts of the boardwalk in AC are gone
Sending power vibes to all those without power. No matter how creative you are, that gets old after a while.
it sure does, Molls. nephew, wife and newborn coming over. their power is out
likely a good amt of beach erosion in NJ/DE.
and my niece in CT is without power as well
some of the piers in Ocean City, MD are gone.
indeed, dc
Boardwalks are not built to sustain the kind of damage these storms inflict.
what about Annie in Brooklyn?
a cousin has a a place, 2nd house from the beach in Long Beach Island. I am hoping that the damage is minimal
Brooklyn was hit hard.
oh, may the damage be minimal for him.
don't know bichon, most likely without power and they are on a high floor
ty dc
My friend's greenhouse came through undamaged, with only a couple tomato plants lightly damaged.
that is good
reminder: Babble Meetup. at noon on 11/10. pls see Brookie's profile or email me for more information.
Hi gang. Just stopped by to say hi.
Glad to hear the greenhouse is intact.
2bits unscathed - a few branches and lotsa leaves down
hi, hego. glad you're well, if powerless.
glad to hear, dan :)
NJ is a mess!
Yay for safe 2Bits.
hello
we heard from cousins in Brooklyn and lower west side that all's (relatively) well. Waiting on a couple of East Village friends, assume they will be out of communication for a while
Bbl
good afternoon all
hi, teach. all's well with you?
Did it snow wv?
Got snow Teach?

cold weather, small layer of snow on ground - not lots of snow - thats more up in the mountains - friend didn't make it to class this morning had 18 inches - only about 10 miles from here - only about 1/2 inch here
sorry for the hiccup
all good. I'm glad your area was not hit hard by the snow storm. You were a bit West for hurricane precipitation, yes?
hi babblers. hope everyone got through okay. i know more than a few of you are without power. has anyone heard from annie yet?
it has been raining since Sunday and last night turned to snow and sluch today - the eastern mountains (border of WV and VA) got the heavy snows - we did not get the winds
Hey all
Hi Jan
not yet, Kate. Nrkii lost power last night and we've not heard from her yet today either.
Everyone doing ok? I lost my shed, but the house is good
sorry to hear of the shed, but glad you and the house are well.
morning all
Thanks
The wind here is still crazy
morning, sammys
that makes sense with the slowness of the storm, and your North location.
gee, i saw that lower manhattan is out too - spectacular generator explosion or something... as bad as it sounds out there, the predictions were so dire, i was expecting to see a few horsemen bearing down on us.
hey dc... loke your icon........ did you ever eat fiddleheads??
yes, fiddleheads are one of the joys of Spring, along with wood sorrel.
Yeah...should diminish through the night..
Hey Kate..how were the winds in T.O?
Yes, northern locations were not to feel the effects of this until today.
yup... one of the rites of spring when i was a kid in maine was to go iddlin' with mom and dad.. we ate a lot of stuff from the land
jan - i['m in Fort Erie now... the fetch of the lake always magnifies the winds here - we were over 100 kms for quite a while. thankfully i didn't lose power, but i was up all night because the rain was driven in through the windows of the apartment above me - i had more than a dozen pots/bowls etc. to catch all the drip from my ceiling!
storm did damage even here in ohio.. next door neighbor had a tree fall on their house... we lost a ew branches and the power flicked off and on about 10 times but we are grateful that was all
we harvested crawdads and wild onions and wild carrots too.
while waiting on my oncologist appt this a.m. - i saw the gov of n.j. speak - understand there was a breach in one of the levies.
hi again all!
yes, things bad in NJ, NY, CT
we did too dc... and my nana could gather wild herbs and we used them... also dandelions greens and mushrooms
Kate...i live on lake Huron so i know what you mean. 100km winds and the seas were at 20 ft
and oregano :)
lambton... guessing you're around londonsomewhere?
Oregano, a likely story. : )
the storm surge coinciding with the high tide made things much worse
Sarnia
LOL molly
Lol molly
did you get the snow they were calling for jan? i wonder if crossy did - he was in the zone
ah, so you are near carleekat, india! she lives in sarnia too.
She lives 2 or 3 blocks away..lol
cool :-)
Havent met up yet..soon i hope.. Schedules have been crazy for both of us
she's trying to get me to apply for the dean of students position at her college - don't know if I will, though
That would be a good go
can't hurt to apply, and you can do MUCH worse than Canada as a place to live.
frank is running for county board - if he wins we should stay here - so I will wait until after the election
I've been writing my vita in my head, though
Its a great school
well, I have to have people who will write me recommendations, and I don't want to approach them unless I'm serious
Yeah, thats wise
yes, I looked at it - somewhat like the place I went to for undergraduate in that it is all women, although mine was not religiously affiliated
so I have 91 words and they are starting to come v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y now
except for the occasional fish, of course
i still only have 39...as in 39 steps - great book and intense early hitchcock movie
ah - must read it when I finally do retire...
sue2 - i feel your pain, 111 left and wishing i didn't start the grid now.... lost in a sea of i's
there are quite a lot of them, aren't there?
not sure if it is in print...maybe tho - i have a 1930's addition
looks like ren is in the same boat..
ah, then I can probably find it in the library, or at the gutenberg site - I download a lot of free e-books from there
i am kate....these eyeballs are floating everywhere
... A fine book for the time ... great boys own stuff ... but more than a bit out of touch with current acceptable social language ... ... you can't say "that's so white of you any more" ... okay for 1920 but a bit hard to swallow now
we should all contribute a grid word.... trhen go to the pb for some libations and snacks ;))
i love that site! i get books there too sue
Lol..not a bad idea
HI ALL

Hello, Nel
hello BR
Hi Ruby
and one got a bulb and one got a club and the one in the tub is gone
wok around the clock!! love it
hi molly
just looked through the chog, but didn't bother looking for clues
rab gave us the eyes
how are you faring, molly? I haven't heard from my friends in Germantown
I watched CNN 'til 1AM (my time) but it has to be the most annoying station in the world
3 minutes of news of the storm and 5 minutes of advertising for itself!
I live near Cleveland, OH, and we got hit HARD last night, I can not even imagine how the east coast is coping
Things here are pretty much okay. We did not lose power and we did not lose any precious trees. I am grateful for that.
wow, that's terrible, lisa
that is good news, molly
I spoke with my sister in NY and she, too, was afraid of losing trees and she didn't lose power
New York and New Jersey were hit hard. As were all of the coastal areas.
she was lucky, I think, lives in Queens but not on the water
Glad to hear that you're sister weathered the storm well.
how weird, I live hundreds of miles away...we lost trees and most of the entire NE ohio is out of power. I live in a Co op and we have generators.
Quite a bit of fires too from falling power lines I think...no school. Most businesses are closed
I was shocked to see the fires in NY, hard to imagine with pouring rain
I have a lot of friends right now htat have no power and no heat :(
has anybody heard from Annie or WVA teach?
Do electrical fires go out with just water?
Blessings to all the repair crews. They have some rough weeks ahead.
We have been raining here since thursday, so flooding is an issue too.
are they fires that started from electric sparks and gas leaks
Teach was here earlier. She's okay. Annie has not been on. I imagine she is without power.
I keep getting red boxes here. Does anyone else?
Christian, my 10 yr old was looking outside and getting excited with all the big sticks lying around...he likes to play with them!!
ruby, there's a huge fire in te Rockaways [down by Breezy Point
my FIL lives in Berea OH...we need to check on him - wow that's pretty far inland on the dirty si4 of the storm
{{bichon}}, I had about a dozen when I first came on tonight
yes, check on him, I live in Brooklyn OH and Berea is like 10 mins from me.
that's what CNN showed, shocking!
in6/21 pls
in6 held together
ty
I found a great anxiety cure: haagen daz salted caramel ice cream
never never that flavor, ruby, but I do like haagen daz ice cream
bbl
I love the addition of salt to sweet
i found one too ruby - coconut m&m candies
I just changed my profile pic to a pic of lake erie roaring with Hurricane Sandy last night
renfield, that sounds wonderful but i don't think they have them in France. Salt seems to intensify the caramel flavor
i am getting them too bichon, and it is refreshing the page on its own as well
is it snowing there, Lisa?
i love the sea salt and dark chocolate bars - yummy yummy yummy
kate are you on firefox or ie?
it is slushing and snowing here - ground is covered but roads have melted - about 10 miles from here - up in the mountains there is 18 inches of snow
this salt-added thing must be pretty recent -- never saw it until about a year ago
great shot lisa, i didn't venture the lake myself... and the wind was blowing away from us, sending the water to the buffalo side
I've been thinking about you since yesterday, teach! I'm so glad you're OK
dea salt is the new little black dress
we have just had lots of rain - and now sluch - not even any of the wind
I don't think I['d look so great in sea salt.....
not dead dea sale - just sea salt
i'm on ie ren, but this is the first time i've seen this happen. no worries, it's probably the internet here
the dress works, though
Hi again all :)
(with tall shoes)
hi smores
Ruby, you remind me of my friend, who puts her Raisinettes IN her popcorn when she goes to the movies.
it use to happen from time to time kate - except we all would get it. Dr G-D wouldhave to reset something
I would love that
how about smores and sea salt?
lol...I put m&m's in mine Molly
if you can imagine it, molly, here they put sugar on the popcorn at the movies. It's gross!
i had a message earlier that said if it persists, let dr. god know... so maybe his server is a little persnickity today?
love sea salt...lol
Ruby, sweet and salty did get popular a year or two ago. About the time chocolate covered pretzels became the "in thing".
may I have stats for the 8 and for ANY bottom a, pls
sounds like a kettle co4 of some type ruby
ac 8/65
that's funny because I first noticed it here at about that time but I figured that France was way behind the US
ar8/65
my fault,, as smores says
Then all the candy companies started marketing sweet and salty candy bars and Ben and Jerry threw potato chips in their ice cream.
as5/12, an7/28,an6/16
too funny
Hey, if there is a bandwagon, people will jump on it.
part of a circle + ** I were a rich man + college housing: d***
ever since I was a kid, I have dipped Ruffles in chocolate ice cream
ty for spoon-feedingme, BR
did your ruffles have ridges
you were ahead of your time, smores
everyone laughed ( or got grossed out) now they make it they way...lol
of course they did BR...lol
"dead like me" (tv) used to talk about some candy popular in south - m+m's... but with little chunks of salt on the coating.
I've known people who dip french fries in chocolate shakes for years.
eeew
I have to draw some lines lol
whenever my mom would make fried ice cream ( wasn't often enough) she would lightly roll mine in kosher salt
It doesn't appeal to me Ruby. I like my sweet and salty separate.
a long time to dip
I've never had fried ice cream but it sounds like a great idea!
don't know about the fries Molly, it has to be somethig crunchy
the salted caramel ice cream has crunchy bits of caramel in it
I love it, but it makes my teeth ache
i like my chocolate w/ orange juice...and fr5 ice cream is another yummy
crushed pretzels are a good topping for ice cream also
<-- slinking off to the pb for more ice cream
The ultimate in sweet and salty is Blue Eyed Bakers sweet and salty candy bar pie. pretzels, Snickers, cheesecake, brownie, chocolate, pie. Do a google search if you want to see an image.
chocolate and orange juice...hmmm
I will definately look that up Molly, sounds wonderful
that sounds incredible
a dab of horseradish and tobasco sauce in ice cream adds a bit of zing
<----adds ice cream to grocery list
I'll bet
ugh....BR
putting horse radish on shopping list
If you have a lot of time, and 40 pounds you need to gain, here is a link to the recipe for that pie... http://tinyurl.com/8grapl2
does anybody know if daikon is the same as long turnip?
ewwww.....don't do it ruby, don't do it!
sounds like a kosher cajun's ice cream rab
no, I need it for shrimp but keep forgetting, lol
It's a radish, Ruby
<-----copies url for future reference
DH brought home something that looked like daikon but the store called it "long turnip"
and I wanted parsnip
for a soup
need to zzzz for a while bbl
happy zzzzz
Most root vegetables are good in soups and stews.
be well, Ren
hard to find rutabagas here
bye ren - take care
I haven't had a rutabaga since my Mom's beef stew.
I never had one at home but learned much later that they are even better then mashed potatoes if you add enough butter
Anything is better if you add enough butter. : D
true
and French butter is amazing
Have you ever made your own butter? It puts store bought to shame.
you've done that?
Yep, it's easy.
yum.....home made butter
I've never had it
Hey, I put a S'mores Bars recipe on my profile if anyone is interested.
you could gain 40 lbs just reading the chot!
or even chog*
back to CNN now
Molly, how do you make your butter...I've done the shake in the jar kind, and my grandmother always had fresh butter
For the record, the text in profile doesn't like apostrophes.
Hi this is Hego's daughter. She is okay. She has no power but she is far enough inland. My brother evacuated and is with her. His condo was right on the becah but unfortunately the whole town is underwater. :(
beach
Oh, thank you Molly, I didn't know, will go back in a fix it.

Hi TO, how did you fare with the storm?
no power, but no damage. cold but ok!:)and you?
We did very well. No power loss, no tree damage. I am so grateful.
We helped haul some limbs from our 94 year old neighbor's back yard, but other than that no real damage. Just bits of leaves everywhere.
nj very bad. not even a place for governor to land on north beaches. he is trying to prepare us for what we will see.
We lost power for about an hour yesterday.
mine out since 8:15
But they lost power at work, so they told everyone to work from home.
Glad to hear it, Wht. TO, I have seen footage from Atlantic City. It's awful. Hope you get your power back soon.
nice to hear you are well, i have grown tired of this dunkin donuts, headed home by way of mall to watch news.Molly it is NORTH of there that is decimated.
May the power crews get to you quickly TO.
All of my best to those Babblers who are out of power. That was us a year ago in a snowstorm
and as i hear them tick off where i have family it is awful. 39 deaths so far. many crews in our area but nothing yet... i just don't take cold well. but it is nothing compared to others.
nothing at all and i am grateful.
Hi to my fellow babblers! How is everyone doing today?

Hi Min, how are you?

Adios 72 Temple Owl! I hope you get power back soon.
Fortunately,my power never went out. Had a couple of close calls w/flickering lights, however, Sandy decided to spare me the heartache. Too bad that she wasn't as amenable to others. I am praying for all with no power.

liz: the devastation is all over. there is no way. unlike say, florida, this area is densely populated. and my being cold is nothing compared to what has occurred here.

Hello jillibus! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle
hi min -- I guess you have power or you wouldn't be here?
Or maybe you have a laptop...
Yes,thank goodnes. I never lost my power jillibus. Glad to hear that your New Jersey friends are doing ok also.
Well, you're far enough inland, eh min.
Hello, you two. Very glad to see you are safe after watching the late night news here in UK.
Hi jac! You're up early!
...or late?
My parents who are way inland in Vermont and on top of hill lost their power, however, they use solar energy.
Hello Jacula, thank you!Haven't seen you here in awhile
Up late, jilli.
I was a bit surprised that the news here showed little of the human misery but seemed more concentrated on how the disaster would affect the run up to the presidential election and how they thought each runner would play it.
*effect, I meant.
But what I did see of what's gone one re Hurricane Sandy had me very worried about you lot 'over the Pond'.
jac, I think people are still stunned. I'm watching the US news right now and they're certainly showing all the havoc that's been wrought, and there hasn't yet been a chance to show how devastating it has been to the people -- so many millions of them in those areas most heavily hit.
Well, I'm on the other side of the continent.
Hi, jac, jilli, et al. Here in DC we were on the SW side of the storm. Locally, flooding, high winds, trees down, some power out, but MUCH better than in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
West Virginia got a lot of snow from it.
Saw on the news a NYC cop who lost his life trying to save somebody. There have been 46 reported deaths.
oh dc, so glad to hear from you -- so my cousin and other is Rockville MD will be ok
we were lucky our power stayed on. We have friends here who lost power and therefore water.
Jilli - I was somewhat surprised to see a UK reporter saying that it's about time NYC thought about having proper flood defences like London does, since Lower Manhattan is so vulnerable to flooding. Yea! Like the UK Government cares about the rest of us who are vulnerable to flooding and still allows building on flood plains, which makes flooding in previouslyu non-vulnerable areas far more likely.
Should be indeed, jilli, though possibly without power, though Virginia has more dark than Maryland this storm.
I heard about the snow in WVa. There was even a death in Ontario (Canada)
and 25ft waves rolling into Chicago even!
the reach of this one was amazing.
Jac, I heard now NY is talking about that very subject of flood prevention -- as a matter, just thisvery minute in MSNBC TV which I have on.
and jac, good point about flood controls and building in flood plains.
dcs - Glad to hear you're okay. I've always thought that, should I ever decide to move to USA, I'd like to be in New England. This has made me think again.
Hello DC, jacula and sis!
MTA -- the public transit agency in NYC -- has said they don't know when service will be restored. They have 7 flooded tunnels.
Hello dcseain! How are you doing?Welcome back to grid
*matter o fact (too hasty with typing)
hi minv!
So far the only thing that has been opened are bridges.
hi sis jj!
Hello Jillyjill! How are you doing? Welcome back to chog
evening, minver :) hi, JJ
salt water in the NYC subways -- not good
How is everyone tonight?
Hi Min!
So, I also heard ther had been an earthquake and a tsunami in British Columbia?
Also, this is the first time Wall Street has closed due to weather. So far, it has been closed two days in a row.
Yes, a small one of both...
brb...time for a G&T...I am officially on vacation!
There was an earthquake in Maine that my parents felt in Vt. I did not know about the one in British Columbia.
Earthquake in BC resulted in a very minor tsunami in Seattle. That was locally sigificant, but minimal damage and impact overall.
Hi, jillyjill. I'm fine, except that I had to do a very bad review of a novella that's allied to a mag I write for. Also, I swept the autumn leaves off my front drive earlier and now hear more rolling crispily towards my office window, like skeletal hands clawing their way back up.
Jac -- the quake was just off the shore of the Queen Charlotte Islands (aka Haida Gwaii, the old lovely native name), a long way north of here -- and the tsunami headed directly for Hawaii, didn't affect us at all. I never felt a twing of it.
Min - I'm sure Wall St closed around 1995 due to weather?
Min - I'm sure Wall St closed around 1995 due to weather?
jilli - glad you were okay. Hope my friend in Hawaii is!
dcs - glad all okay!
The tsunami was quite tame in Hawaii -- I watched it on TV
Franmag said she wasn't worried at all
jilli - it was Fran I was worried about, so thanks for reassuring me.
Don't know about Wall Street closing in 1995.I just saw Wall Street was closed for the first time on the news.
I'm looking at the flooded NY subways right now -- what a mess -- but they have great plans for fixing it
hello everyone :)
Mayor of NYC wants to postpone Halloween until Sat.
Great plans maybe, Jilli, but do they have the money?
Hi cyber!
I wonder how many of our babblers are without power tonight...
hi nan (Hainan)
Hello cybernan! How are you doing? Welcome to the log
Hicyber!
Well, since we are flying to Hawaii I certainly hope there are no more tsunamis!
quite a few, I bet -- I know Hego is, or was last night -- and she's in NJ like my old friends, with whom I talked on the phone earlier.
Min - lol re the mayor postponing thing.
JJ, the tsunami was not a problem there
I think he should just cancel the whole holiday this year.
Since when was Halloween a real holiday?
That's what I say jillibus!
Wall Street has closed many times for remarkable events and was closed due to weather as early as 1888 (for a blizzard). Trivia over. Carry on.
It's just an evening here -- and will be pouring rain, poor kids!
in - these 'holidays' are actually either religious cermonies from Catholic or Church of England, mostly stolen from the older 'pagan' ceremonies.
Once again, the news giving misinformation to the public
Saw my first Christmas commercial today....sheesh!
Molly - yes, as I said, It has not been unknown for Wall Street to close.
Min, the news people are in such a frenzy, I think they are just spouting things off without doing much fact checking.
Sounds like Mitt Romney *ducks from thrown tomatoes*
Jillyjill - we have Hallowe'en, Christmas and next Easter in the shops now, plus Hot Cross Buns (which are for Easter)! *sighs*
You won't get hit with any tomatoes here Min. This is a totally pro-Obama board.
I'm not from US, but from UK point of view, it's Obama for me and Mitt is a joker.
One thing that Mitt Romney wants to get rid of is FEMA, which is what the U.S. totally need in instances like this
From Jacula's mouth to God's ears!
fe 5, please?
What is FEMA?
fe 5/16 sounds like what one does when they pass out
cyber, alternate spelling of dizzy spell
ty jilly
Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Jac, FEMA is Federal Emergency Management Agency.
cybernan - fe5 = what you might do as a movement to confuse an enemy.
FEMA= Federal Emergency Managment Adm. What failed miserably during Katrina....but has done well since
Min - thanks! And Molly!
An Jilly!
And Romney doesn't want to "get rid of" FEMA. He has suggested that States take a larger role in supporting emergency management. Another instance of how the media distorts facts and people just believe what they read.
I am so very tired of election commercials...and phone calls and barrage of mailings.....
I think that FEMA learned their lesson after Katrina Jillyjill
in 6, please?
So, Obama is making everything happen as you hope it would in this time of crisis. It's all he can do and the best he can do.
And they have better people head it than "Brownie"...
An in6/21 word means to remain in one piece cybernan
in6/21 or in6/18, cyber?
in 6/21, please
in6/18= in+legal action
Just clued it cybernan
ty min
yw
Jilly - 'brownie'? Is that some kind of racial slur on Obama?
I doubt it Jac. Jilly is a big Obama fan.
No, it was the person Bush put in place..previous history was that he had run a Horse racing organization. Bush patted him on the back and said "Good work Brownie"...
So what's the 'brownie' thing about?
As New Orleans drowned in Katrina....
Oh, okay. I get it now, I think...
As one might guess...Molly and I have differing view points...makes the chog interesting I say!!
Brown was the surname of Dubya's "Brownie" friend he put in charge of FEMA (the disaster organisation)
I'm glad you get it Jac. I have no clue what States taking a more active part in emergency management has to do with a past President and his actions.
I do agree, the blame game should be over 4 years later
I'm off to bed now. Got NaNoWriMo coming up tomorrow. Lots of writing to do and no time for chatting. Brown, jillibus, is/was my married surname. lol
Goodbye Jacula!Maybe I will see you tomorrow in chog
Niters jacula! Great to see you! HAGD!
Min - I doubt it! See you all in a month!
National Novel Writers Month, for all you folks who don't abbreviate.
HappyBabbling, all!xxx
gnight/day Jac!
hey everybody! just got home from work, and we were slammed
Sounds like fun ..
Most people still dont have power, and being one of the only businesses/restaurants open, we were on a 2 1/2 hr wait for people to get seated!!
Someone on FaceBook wrote that Reagan didn't blame Jimmy Carter for 4 years in a row. I responded that he had nothing to blame Jimmy Carter for.Although Obama did inherit George Bush's mess,it does not look good to keep on blaming him 4 years later. However, if Romney wins,I'm sure he will blame Barack Obama for what he inherits.
Wow, LisaG! What a storm!
It was crazy...and we were staffed for a lazy tuesday, not a massive power outage...
Where are you lisaG?
Hello LisaG!How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle

So I just gained an hour I didn't think I had.

although I seldom finish these days -- too much else to do
This weekend...
I lose an hour on vacation...that sucks!
nan, it is indeed fall back, and that makes it get dark EARLIER -- at 4 pm instead of 5 pm -- in fact it gets dark here at about 3 pm, ugh.
Hello ursh! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle.
I mean it WILL get dark at about 3 pm when ST hits
Personally, Just leave the damn time alone!!!
