My poor sunflowers all have their heads bowed-lal
Do you have them in a vase? I think they make such a beautiful arrangement.
no-planted along my fence
I bet they are pretty there. Do you save the seeds for next year?
I got mints and bee balms and lemon balms planted with them--it really makes the sunflowers pop out
yes--I love flowers and trees
I didn't know they would do that.....interesting.
I took a old door frame that a friend was throwing away and made me a herb garden in it and it turned out great
nbt at last
That is really creative, pug. Can you take a picture of it?
I will see if a friend will for me-I dont have one of my own yet
OK, great.

we had a washer that quit on us so I had my hubby take out the tub and made a planter out of it too. I got a pretty pink rose bush in it with some color leaves surrounding it--it turned out really nice too
good night Jilli
Goodness, I wish I could think of neat things, like that, to do.
you could Peach -- nothing to it--one man's junk is another man's treasure-lol--isnt that the saying?
It is, indeed.

hi, all. My internet was down for a few hours, so here I am at a late hour, busitng with news (: good news (:
Hi jube
hi. Shall I tell?
sure
I bought a Steinway (: (: (:
For anyone who plays piano, this is a huge deal.
that is so great! congrats!
You will enjoy that for years!
I played a little as I was in school. I have always wanted to go farther with it but didnt. I do love piano music
Thanks. Price was right and I had the funds. There's a piano store on a run-down section o f Euclid Av in East Cleveland, a down-on-its-luck suburb just east of University Circle, Cleveland's cultural hub. My son was running late, so I drove him to his appointment, and ambled past the Bill Kap piano company on my way home. The doors were open right there on the street, so I strolled in and started playing.

hello pugs, melon. what marvellous news, melon.
Howdy Rose
Hi all :)
thats a great find Jube
Hi ya Liz
Fantastic, Melon. Happy playing!
*goes green with envy* i miss my piano. had to sell it to pay out some bad debts my ex left me with. ah, well, one day...
hey ya liz
Is it a new one or used one
Love music but am totally unmusical
same with me Liz--but I sound good in my own head-lol
:)
I looked at the price on the Steinway I sat down to—$59,000. Oh, well, I thought, a used Steinway is out of my reach. The owner came from the back room. long story short, we shmoozed as he showed me a $35K Model L then said those famous words that must go back to Mt Sinai—"I can give it to you wholesale." So, I got it for less than $20K, a deal for me and I'm sure he's not going to the poorhouse. The serial number is in the 410,000 range, so it's about 1975 vintage. Old Steinways are prized, and they don't lose value. I went to the bank and cut the check. Being delivered on Thursday.
i started physio today....boy, can that gal talk.....doing lots of seated exercises, to strengthen ankle.
Tiring for you too Rose
That's amazing melon.
granny, I whispered "Thanks, Mom and Dad" as I signed the check.
Iam so happy for you Jube!
*giggle* it only hurts when i laugh...not tiring really. but i certainly know i have been walking the walk, so to speak.
lovely, melon.
My landlord can stop worrying about me buying a house and moving—I decided a piano was a more worthy investment than a down payment, esp given the market here.
melon, hope you live at ground level.
I do, granny. Grands are not so hard to move, as they are only about 20" deep when the legs are removed. This piano is a dream come true.
Rose how is that going to help your ankle when you have to still put most of your weight on it until the leg heals?
did you insured it Jube
Oh, my granny, you are going through a lot!
pugs, i did say seated exercises. i'm working with a rubber band about 6inches wide, to give resistance.
Oh, yes, puglet, you bet.
that might be something our Sprite could do too
it's well-documented that if you can increase the blood supply to an affected area, healing is much faster. hence the exercising.
good point, pugs, i will email her and tell about the exercises.
how long do you have to do this Rose
until i can stand up and walk without pain. estimated about 3 weeks.
melon, did you play the piano in the orchestra?
well I wish you a speedy recovery Rose and I know you want it as well
thanx, hun.
No, I played double bass in the orchestra. Both my degrees are in double bass performance, but I had a strong piano minor in undergrad school, played harpsichord in grad school, and played the piano for the love of it over the years.
how's your sis behaving?
My sis?
*bows head in awe at melon's prowess* you are amazing, melon. what a wonderful gift to have.
It must be wonderful to be so tallented
my sis?
*giggle* no, sorry, that was for pugs
yes, pugs.
doing as good as what goes with her problems Rose
okay. you ever need to sound off, you know how to reach me, right?
and how is those at your household
Yes I do and thank you
we had a mess yesterday--our well pump went out and what a mess! But got it fixed
Thanks. I had the right people in my life at the right time, most especially my parents. My dad wasn't crazy about my going into music at first, but he loved music and respected my choice. he was an engineer at NASA, and his highest compliment to me was "you would've made a great engineer." He loved his career so much he couldn't imagine anyone wanting to be anything else! Child of Italian immigrants, born in the US but did not hear English spoken until he entered kdg, a true self-made man. My mom was his foil, happy-go-lucky, my champion at every turn.
pretty good, thanxpugs. mother mac has ben out with hersocial group. don has been driving to appointments, and as a reward i took out to a local cafe for lunch. nothing flash, but good food.
This is funny. My dad was pretty tight with a buck, and once said he got a gnawing in his gut when he had to spend money. Boy did I ever not get that DNA!
melon, roflol....
that
My mom is smiling from beyond, and meanwhile there's an urn rotating wildly at the cemetery...
thats super Jube that you can be so lucky to have family memories like that
like my mother sending me to a ladies college, hoping i would become a little lady....wrong....never happened. i inherited my father's very down to earth sense of humour, much to her chagrin.
Rose thats nice to just get out like that and enjoy each other
phantom: abscotchalater
whoot, hello BR
I am blessed. I think, too, that I appreciate my folks more since they are gone. If anything, I feel more urgency to not screw up; I represent them now.
abscotchalater? That sounds like someone who steals your Dewar's when you're not looking!
one hiding from the police
awww, c'mon BR, that's gotta be a made up word. lol
I like my definition better (;
if there was any justice in the world, most politicians would be included
i was wondering if it was a new cocktail made from absinthe and scotch..
Who on earth would do that to Scotch?!!!
which reminds me...how do you know when a politician is lying?
his mouth is moving. or hers.
every time one speadks
of course my musings are impolitic
lolol, and we are on the brink of a major election here. every man and his dog has something to say.
BR, like your musings very much. they feed what is left of my grey matter...
Lots of "onesies" in this grid. I just looked at the clock. Back to bed for me. 'night all. It was lovely chatting.
sweet dreams of your new piano, melon.
Night Jube
Rose do you have your fireworks
yes, hun. do you need a hand?
Rose I just sent you something election related!
thanx, liz, opening emails now
w2g then Rose--Iam down to 26
Made me smile!
How are you Liz
Great thanks puglet. Life's good here :)
ROFLOLOL...omg. that is so funny.
:)
I need de4/5 to have all my four letter words and Iam just not seeing it--so a clue please
I mean 4/6
Sorry don't have it
duh got it
and a simple word at that
was it expensive, pugs, or did it leave you in a glen
? Rose
which de4, hun?
ohhhh, de4/6, my brain is that...lol
it was a de4/6 and I found it Rose
yeah mine too-lol
now working on the 5 and 6 letter words
hi all
Hello Joso
g'day joso
hey pug, how's the ankle doing gran?
joso, started physio today, learning that ther are new ways to torture someone..lol. hoping to be back at work, on SEATED duties only, in about 3 weeks.
umm, congrats I suppose, hope it ends up being worth the torment
and you, joso? how are things in your neck of the woods?
plodding along, did my swimming thing. been a while, forgot how much I liked swimming. feeling very virtuous.
Oh I forgot about you going to do that Joso--Glad you got to follow through on that!
how do you swim with your halo around your ankles?
like an angle
*splutter* would that be an obtuse or an acute angle?
very obtuse
or just straight down? lolol
*pictures joso in his budgy smugglers doing a submarine imitation*
nah...mate, i'm yanking your lariat. good on you for following through on what you said you would do.
mostly mucked about, couple of laps, then somersaults, underwater endurance, poorly executed dives, played like a 10 year old
could I please have a clue to the two I words and the en words(the I on the top row)
that is so nice, joso. and more importantly, it was YOU time.
sounds like you enjoyed yourself Joso
held off poking the girls and yanking suits, didn't think i'd ge away with it at this age
pugs in5, in + that bill is *** to be paid, then past tense for in6
en5 and en6, as for in 5 and in 6
other is ed4/6, ed + action verb
thanks rose got the i's
got em thanks so mch
hey, joso, i don't think you can swim that fast yet...
well considering what gets you a lecture at 10 gets you arrested at 56, perhaps it is best I held off. Hope I make some friends who want to play tag or something.
I dont know how to swim at all
dont you have a friend that would like to go with you?
true, not fast, can make the distance, am comfy in water, but will be last.
true, not fast, can make the distance, am comfy in water, but will be last.
can you swim Rose
joso, still have to be in water where i can touch the bottom with my toes. can swim, but have never overcome my fear.
you are missing something pug. where did you grow up that you missed out on swimming?
it was one thing i insisted my kids learned. how to survive in the water...fortunately they all love swimming.
In a small town that had no pools and my folks didnt have the funds to take us to a pool
I like the water and enjoy alot of time walking in our creek/river but its not deep enough to swim in it
and I sure am not going to a public pool wearing a suit--I wouldnt give anyone a show of this
my dad was the best. he used to swim out into the ocean with me clinging around his neck, and tread water, staying with me, trying to allay my fears.
too bad pug, once you get used to breathing it's like floating in space, null grav, except the water gives you something to push against, sortof
do you live near the ocean Rose
hey pugs, if i can get into a pool in fiji, in front of all the sweet, young twenty-somethings, you can too. the trick is to find an aquatic group in your own age bracket.
I would like to get into water exercise if I had a place here that offer it
pugs, about a 45 minute drive to the ocean/bay.
ooh how nice
That was the hardest part for me, tad overweight at double body mass, got into the water as fast as i could.
I dont think people look at men as they do women or do they?
do you go there much Rose
sorry you don't enjoy water gran. but we all have our quirks
Joso can you walk to your pool
not lately, pugs. unless mother mac is in a care facility. and then we generally head inland, as there is still so much neither of us have seen.
dont MM like the ocean
joso, love water, just must be able to feel the bottom with my toes, at the very least.
good morning all :)
pugs, getting her onto a beach would be a very neat trick...lol
To a degree I think you are right pug, appearance of women always seemed more important than appearance of men, but at a certain mass I think we are all just fat.
what a great place to go to enjoy a picnic Rose
{{yay, it's the sprite}}
hey sprite, g'morning to you
*hugs rose and pug and joso*
Our Dear Sprite! hugs
Ive always been on the heavy side from childhood.I did lose alot at one time but had to starve myself to do it
how are you beautiful people today?
Iam good
glad to hear it, pug :)
and you? Things better?
good, did my swimming thing, perked me up no end, how are you keeping sprite
another row with dear son yesterday. Not much sleep afterwards and yearning for a binge. Otherwise fine.
wow joso, how wonderful! Me and my love went to a couple of goodwill shops to buy a hometrainer bike. Didn't find one yet, but we will.
Sprite do you tend to turn to food for comfort?
sprite, am going to email you about my new physio. this is something you can do, dear.
pug: no, it is much more complicated than that, alas.
is hubby home yet?
oh great, rose, am looking forward to reading your email.
not yet, joso. Another hour or two, I think.
as for son, can you possibly say to him, yes dear, and leave it? that is after you have expressed your views.
I ment from hospital, but I guess that answers the question.
I could, rose... if I would accept that he will never help out or do his chores.
My sister that I care for has no controll on her intake of food. I have to watch her on this
my advice to a soon-to-be DIL many years ago, was to agree with her hubby, and let him find out he is wrong,
oh joso, yes, he has been home for a while already. Sorry, I thought you knew. He is working half days even!
you are a special person, pug, to ca4 so much for her.
well, sprite, how about a trade-off. you can have supper tonight, if you do such-and-such. if he doesn't do, then no supper
I dont feel special but I just dont want to put her in a nursing home
rose, our car broke down while hunting for a hometrainer yesterday. Rob had to walk home and collect his company car, then start our car on his battery. Then he had to drive around to charge the other battery.
so I came home busted, and had the utter nerve to ask son to go to the grocery and get a few things for dinner.
that's pretty special pug
aha, so he wouldn't go....well my answer would be, there's no supper tonight because son wouldn't go to store to buy what i needed to make supper, as planned
Your day sounds about like mine Sprite. Our well pump went out so now I got to wait awhile to get my reader
he thought about it for a couple of minutes, then demanded to know why, and why Rob wouldn't do it. I explained, he grudgingly got up from bed, then started lecturing me that I should have asked him this much earlier. I said I didn't know, earlier... he said I should have phoned him on my cell phone... I said I didn't even have it on me... and he called me stupid. At that point I said whatever, I will go to the store, and how about we don't cook for you tonight.
thanks Joso
it may seem horrible, but he will soon learn that others suffer because he doesn't pull his weight.
aw pug, isn't that frustrating :(
yea, go to store and buy a 1 serving meal, wait for him to ask for dinner, oops sorry
yeah we did. And he run away from home.
yes it was but we did get it fixed by nightfall
he must see that his actions do not just effect you, but the rest of his family as well.
he ran* away from home.
sprite, offer to pack his bag for him....
for how long?
he didn't even take his laptop with him. Joso, he left last night and hasn't come back yet.
Poor Sprite--hugs-- I know you must be worried to death
sprite, relax hun. he knows which side his bread is buttered on. he is safe, i am sure. he wants you and everyone else to be making a fuss.
I am numb, pug. I don't feel worry. I don't feel much of anything right now.
yeah rose, that is what I think too. He is no doubt at one of his friend's or with his girlfriend. I am not gonna call them all this time. He'll come back when he will come back and we will take it from there.
so he's sleeping at a friend's place, he'll be fine, come back expecting everyone to make a fuss, turn his room into a sewing room
sprite, he will come back, cap in hand, hun. i know, have been there. meanwhile here is a special hug for you. **xoxox**
so there... hence the sleepless night and the cravings. I am ok otherwise :) Thanks for listening.
lololllll joso, that is so brilliant
;)
joso did you act out like this
*giggle* joso. and when he does come back just tell him very gently, there are house rules which you need to follow...and list them, plainly.
not so much, ran away once that i remember
I was living on myself at 16. Never ran away, just got away as soon as I could. For my son it is at least the 5th time, silly sod.
now, dearest sprite. take a very deep breath, more like a deep sigh, and let all the tension flow away.
*zens in on rose*
good instinct in not calling around. Will do him good to come back only to find his cloths packed up in the garage. rock his world. then talk about terms for him to come back.
relax all those knotted muscles...start from your scalp, face, neck, shoulders...keep working your way down...until you are just floppy all over. keep breathing deeply, and letting it all out like a sigh
I love your style, joso :)
i like to say, breath in the love, breath of the hate
well he poked the dragon
make him a apartment in the garage and leave it to him to take care of it all that goes on being on his own
wow rose, very good. Thank you :)
*out*
he sure did :D
rose, and how about you? How did today go for you?
physio was painful, but am pleased with progress.
of course you are going to take him back, but it sounds like his cage needs a good sharp rattle, after it's been well shaken then and he's calmed then tell him, dad is sick, you are ill, we love you but can't indulge manufactured problems now. will you help instead of making every thing worse. think of it as reasoning with a mule, first you hit him with a 2x4 then you reason.
am sorry it hurts so much, but very happy about the progress!
sounds good to me, joso. Will discuss it with my love when he comes home. We will make sure son knows we draw the line right here.
that's what i am going to email you about. the exercises, they are so simple. and i think you may benefit also. *shrug*
Those might be good for my sister as well Rose. But where can you get the band
lovely, rose, please do. You guys inspired me yesterday to go hunt for a hometrainer as well. All goodwill stores said they had them regularly, so we will keep on checking.
Now Joso I use to won and ride mules---I found them smart and loyal and never had to use a 2x4--lol
own
great sprite, won't son be surprised to see new trainer in middle of his room.
oh! Great idea, joso!
pugs, any physiotherapist should have access to that width rubber band
I'm only half serious, a few packed boxes would probably be enough to show you two are quite content to move on with your lives. Can't say I know mules pug, just going by the legend
Have you got sons Joso
okay Rose will check that out
yeah, I know what you mean, joso. Just to make very sure he realises he cannot manipulate us by running away.
I hate to say this but I was not the best teenager growing up. Iam sorry now for the heartache I caused my parents. But all in all Iam not so bad now-lal
no, 2 younger brothers. Sprite is lucky, teen girls are so prayed upon, much different story, if a daughter runs away.
I have a daughter too, but she wouldn't run away. We have our fights, but just the normal stuff, and she is awesome. Helpful when needed and yet very good at setting her boundaries.
brb
my youngest brother was the real rebel of our family, managed to get me picked up by the police one.
oh no--so you now have a record?
no, picked up but not arrested, ratted my brother out after a whole 2 minutes
has he changed for the better now
hey, pugs...a rebellious teenager generally grows up to a responsible adult...i.e. moi
and you, pugs
I think Iam
moostly, grown up some. back then he had borrowed my car and taken it down to a wet football field. did donuts and skids all over the field. car covered in mud. Next day police pick me up. Dad got a lawyer and got suspended sentence. then made bro restore the field, hand shovel and roller, was his after school job for a month
thats funny but probally not to you!
oh, what a wonderful object lesson, joso
wow perfect (am back)
Rose as soap operay your life is I bet you got some doozy stories about your boys
so glad Sprite
rattled my cage some, called to the principals office, think I'm going to get a lecture about cutting class, should have tweaked when the secretary said go right in (they always make you wait and sweat) then door closes on it's own, I turn and there is a cop.
*hugs pug*
argh joso, such a rotten experience.
Oh Joso I bet you were scared
you wouldn't believe, pugs, like son no. 1, who wrote my new car off, after 24 hours..
should have been one of my bro's treasured memories. funny now but then
omg rose...
and what did you do Rose
yeah those things are only funny in retrospect
ah well, pugs and sprite...i claimed it on insurance, of course. bought another, not quite so new car...
what did you do with your son?
my kids didn't stand much of a chance. i had already survived 4 brothers...
ditto
sprite, i was more worried about his physical well-being...a car came a poor second
did he ask you if he could borrow your car or did he take it?
was he ok, how did the accident happen?
was it his fault Rose
he asked...it was the day after he received his full driving license. he lost control on a gravel road...it had been raining....
oh, that changes matters. Yes, then all you can say is Thank God you are ok.
it was a combination of factors...
exactly what i said, sprite
:)
gravel roads can be tricky--just glad he was okay
yea, inexperience, bad road conditions, joy of new licence. not willfully bad, the accent teaches any needed lesson.
he ended up in a ditch, 4 foot deep. i was so glad he was unhurt...i thought i had trained him better. but apparently not. did not neglect that part of driver education with the next 2 sons.
accidents happen. Basic rule of life. As long as it is not willful bad behaviour, I wouldn't blame him either.
could you please clue me on the re-33 and zo20 and 28
corner was notorious, many drivers had lost control at the same point.
do you have alot of gravel roads there Rose
zo5/20 is like the 9 before it, plus another vowel at the end.
re6/33, colour + i **e you an apology, outstanding + vowel
pugs, gravel roads are gradually being paved.
thanks guys got them
Must go to bed, sprite congrats on resisting food under very trying circumstances, g'nite all, best wishes
I need the z28 please
good night Joso
thanks joso, sleep well and have lovely dreams
night, joso. see you tomorrow, mate. and keep up the good work. i'm proud of you
night, joso. see you tomorrow, mate. and keep up the good work. i'm proud of you

hahahaha enjoy!
this is a doozie of a grid!
its a nice grid I think
must be the lack of sleep etc then... I had trouble reaching halfway and am slowly pecking away at it with 31 now.

It may be or your mind is else where. I hope we have made you feel abit better
you sure did. You guys rock.
Isnt it a wonder how we get into things and in our minds think we are all alone when thats far from the truth-lal
sprite do you have the un633 and 36
oh god so true. So often I chat here and halfway through realise: Hey, I am not crazy, this isn't me, and it happens to many people.
greek temple babblet added to babble dictionary in my profile :)

We understand about missing our much-loved dogs!
yes Its sad when we lose our pets
Every time i look at a dog im like noooo my puppys :(
rocky, that is so sad about your pets. bet it took the shine off your camp.
but we never forget them; they hold a place in our hearts forever
try to remember the good times and the love they gave
Ok
rocky, do you have photos of them? perhaps print the photos and place them where you can see them everyday.
I think i have a photo of the 16 year old licking my face
The first thing I see on my screen is my beloved Ruby when she was a pup. And my avatar is Max.
Please dont let this keep you from loving another dog cause there are so many out there needing someone to love them just as you need love too
Yes, what puglet says, and there is no disloyalty in loving anothr dog. Our hearts just make more room
We still have a black lab
put it where you can see it everyday, rocky. then you can remember your pet with love each day.
and you seem like a young man with a loving heart
*woof*
I think our pets teaches us how to really love without strings attached
bye bye Ruby
Well thank you for the advice i got to go get ready for school
rocky, apart from the appalling news about your beloved pets, how was camp??
Camp was fun
night, ruby..hope you have a good one, dear
yeah and did you meet anyone special?
and you were dreading it so much. yay for you.
have you ever went to a camp Rose? I havent

LOLOL, rocky. no internet...yep a very sad state of affairs.
haha Rocky--did you good to step in our shoes as we grew up
isnt it Rose--lol
The worst part was that its a boy only camp
yeah, pugs. no mobile phones, no computers, no internet.
hmmm, a real bummer...no girls....
thats too funny! sorry Rocky
just how did we manage, pugs?
well with no girls you could just enjoy with out having to put on airs to attract
yeah, rocky. please forgive us...
I have no ideal Rose==lol
Your allways forgivin
don't know about you, pugs. i was having too much fun with short-sheeting beds and after midnight feasts. lol
I know what you mean!
We had that every night

nice to see you rocky. glad you are back, safe and sound.
I dont know Rose hard to pick
the simplest of pranks were so wonderful...
I bet you were good at it too
well, with 4 brothers, then the nurse's home...just what would you expect. LOL
I remember several times us and kids around us hanging blankets over the clothesline (making tents and sleeping outdoors under them) and popping several big bags of popcorn, I miss those times
I picture you as a tomboy growing upRose
sorry sweetie, was off getting meds ready. you are so right. with 4 brothers, i didn't have a chance.
Rose--sending you hugs and asking Him to wrap you in his arms for you to have a peaceful and refreshing sleep. Hope to catch you tomorrow.
ditto my dearest pugs. see you tomorrow. xoxox
good morning all
morning teach and everyone
hello annie
Morning.
hello Kaplan
The D*** Abides!
Lebowski :) One of my favorite films.
never saw it, must get it from Netflix
This aggression will not stand!
Jackie Treehorn treats objects like women man!
Not Nazis, DOnnie- Nihilists. They believe in nothing.
It is a movie that you watch more for the quotes.
No, no Donnie, these men are nilhilsts. There's nothing to be afraid of. - My all time favorite cinematic line :)
Who played Lebowski?
Jeff Bridges played Jeffery 'The Du**' Lebowski.
He's great
Agreed.
I'm calmer than you man, calmer than you.
Keeping wildlife, an amphibious rodent, for uh, domestic, you know, within the city - that aint legal either.
I wish a film would be made about Maude Lebowski. I'd love to know more about her character.
Who played Maude?
Juliette Moore
She's good too. going to order the movie
Good call. Hope you enjoy it :)
I'm sure I will
Next movie Im getting is Amour Amour
Heard of it, have not seen it.
Is that the one about the retired piano teachers?
molly, if you mean Amour Amour I dont know. It was very highly recommended.
There is a movie called Amour about retired piano teachers that got very good reviews.
I believe Amour Amour is about caretaking
that's the movie, Mollie. It got excellent reviews
I think it was nominated for an Oscar too.
Yes, it was in the foreign movie category.
I just looked it up. It was nominated in the regular best picture category. Let us know how you like it Annie.
I thought it was a foreign film.
I will let you know. Im getting the film Thursday.
Julianne Moore.
I know boat meant Juianne Moore. The name clicked with the picture as soon as I saw it.
John Goodman
Not Jeff Bridges?
John Goodman was Walter.
I dont know the characters in the movie but I will get it. Now I want to see it.
It was a sleeper Coen brothers movie that did not get great reviews, and somehow achieved cult status.
So expect it to be bad.
If you expect it to be fine cinema you will be disappointed.
I will but I will have my popcorn so I can sit through a bad movie.
Oh, Did I write Juliette? Sorry, I totally meant Julianne :)
I give it a half hour, if by then I''m into it, off it goes.
I saw Amour here in French and it was a beautiful, sad movie, hard to watch at times, but well worth it.
*not
The first time I saw The Big Lebowski I could not stand it. The there was one joke that kept replaying in my mind and for that I watched it a 2nd time, and then loved it.
but I love Jean-Louis Trintignant, even now that he's old like me
ruby, hi. Everyone says Amour is hard to watch at times but a great movie
That's how it will go. Discussing Amour and Lebowski in the same conversation is bizarre.
Yes
Off to watch some more 'Being Human' Later players :)
You will need more than a half hour, and more than popcorn.
movies is movies.....
I will hve a box of tissues ready but I really dont cry easily at movies
talking about Amour
:) you will not need them for Lebowski.
LOL
I finally saw the Exotic Marigold Hotel movie last night and will Watch it again tonight with my husband as he slept through it yesterday
It's a lovely movie
I enjoyed The Exotic Marigold Hotel
I didn't see that because because I thought it bput me too much into the women-of-a-certain age public television crowd.
I saw Blue Jasmine Saturday. It was very good.
I liked Blue Jasmine but two weeks later all I remember is Cate Blanchette- nothing about the movie.
but we probABLY ARE PART OF THAT DEMOGRAPHIC,kAPLAN (NOT mOLLY, OF COURSE, SHE'S JUST A KID)
and I am as old as dirt
Oh, I would love to hear a French speaker say "Trintignant"
whoops, errant pinkie again
I know. I don't like being in my own demographic
Refuse to join aarp.
I don't have to be part of a demographic to enjoy a movie. : )
See "20 Feet from Stardom" if you want to see some great stuff.
never heard of it. *writes the name down*
I have no pride. AARP has some great discounts.
Molly, I think you are your very own demographic, definitely an original thinker!
(and funny, to boot)
It's about the backup singers like Darlene Love, and their lives and music as the voices behind the great
Thanks Ruby, I take that as a compliment. However there are a lot of people who don't like original thinkers. Such is life.
It was.
kaplan, a must see for me
That movie sounds good Kap. I will have to look it up.
There was a Fr program the other night about Motown and they playing Dancin' In The Streets, one of my all-time faves
I don't know if I have had an original thought since I was 7.
played*
Thinking in Fr results in new ideas occasionally
I dream in both languages now but the other night I dreamed about uusue and frank, not remembering anything about the dream
except the "stars"
I dreamed about people ending therapy.
The only time I ever really remembered my dreams was when I had a Freudian psychiatrist who made me write them down
I think people's dreams are basically silly compendia of things they've seen, read, etc, all jumbled up in our personal brain cauldrons
did he tell you what he thought they meant or did you tell him?
I think that the fact of her asking me to do it, made the dreams more symbolic and meaningful in a Freudian way.....
(and she looked like my mother)
good morning, Babblers - ruby - I dreamed about you!!!!!
hello ruby
I was introducing you to my cousins in Piemonte......
you're kidding
hey, jbv!
no, no kidding
I was speaking French and Italian
hi, TO!!
{{jbv}} that is very funny and nice
hello TO
and I have been fascinated by dreams ever since I was a child in Catholic school and was told that it was a sin to interpret dreams (has anyone else ever heard that) so of course I went straight to the library and took out Freud's book - on the interpretation of dreams
how is everyone today? though i would greet you before i start the day
they said that was a sin! How terrible
no, i never heard that.
I was too young to understand most of it, of course
but I began keeping a dream diary at the tender age of about 11 or 12
you learn a lot about yourself - even without a psychiatrist
I went into a website for my old neighborhood in Queens and it was filled with entries from the girls (now women) who told of being slapped by the nuns in the local school
i am amazed by all of these revelations of rigid odd reliigous thinking, since i never experienced any of it
it happened, ruby - but not to me, of course : )
and in a very church connected fanily, too. it just mystifies me
<-- went to public schoolall the way through, i.e. until graduate school
a very bad time to enter chat. time to go
all the stories you heard are true - I witnessed some harsh corporal punishment
I went to a Catholic graduate school and the summer session was filled with nuns. They were a lot of fun
Marywood College in Scranton: the slogan -- Mary would if Mary could
LOL
bye TO
I was probably the only non-Catholic in the MFA program, accepted because of my Irish last name
how could it be a sin to interpret dreams when joseph did it and like, that was from God? i mean, you could do it sinfully, sure, but, it clearly can't be a sin in and of itself.
(they missed the extra e)
JBV, you and I are a lot alike. If I was told that about dream interpretation, that is just what I would have done. : )
and it's not like we control or decide on the dreams
people can be so illogical sometimes.
I think the idea was it was a sin to interpret dreams unless you claimed it was God speaking through you.
ya think? lol
And faith is often not associated with logic.
it would be EVEN WORSE to CLAIM it was God - if it wasn't. that would be the worst thing you could do of all. i mean, my goodness, he gets VERY mad at prophets who prophesy in his name who he didn't actually tell stuff to.
Happily, God likes movies and rock and roll, both of which figure proinently in my dream life
Hi all-back to try to find a few more
uh oh, Mr. Personality is making cocktail noises and fixing puppy treats
*woof*
"Mr. Personality" ahahaha!
May I please have clues for the un36 and 33
un6/36 not impressed
un 6,33 unimpressed. They are both un + a word in the grid.
the other is without color
thank you
hi hurshy - actually I think it has something to do with the Joseph story - not sure why he could do it and we couldn't though, I'm sure they came up with some reason
re6,33?
tx for the without color clue! :-)
re + 3/4 of not up + first vowel
ty une.
fireworks.
blame it on St. Thomas Aquinas - just found this: (anyone not interested, please just skip over....)
Is divination through dreams unlawful? — he replies: The whole question consists in determining the cause of dreams, and examining whether the same may be the cause of future events, or at least come to the actual knowledge of them. Dreams come sometimes from internal, and sometimes from external, causes. Two kinds of internal causes influence our dreams: one animal, inasmuch as such images remain in a sleeping man's fantasy as were dwelt upon by him while awake; the other found in the body: it is indeed a well-known fact that the actual disposition of the body causes a reaction on the fantasy. Now it is self-evidence that neither of these causes has any influence on individual future events. Our dreams may likewise be the effects of a twofold external cause. This is corporeal when exterior agencies, such as the atmospheric conditions or others, act on the imagination of the sleeper. Finally dreams may be caused by spiritual agents, such as God, directly, or indirectly through his angels, and the devil. It is easy to conclude thence what chances there are to know the future from dreams, and when divination will be lawful or unlawful (II-II:95:6).
congrats, mixi!
easy to conclude what chances? ie no chance?
or is there more?
I got tired of reading it - this is the source http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/05154a\n.htm
lol ok
too early for theology - sorry if I went off on a tangent
hmm i took out that slash but it still isn't working
anyway, i'm not catholic, so, i get to take into account what he says but still draw my own conclusions :) teehee
remove \n
ah thanks mixi
Good morning, all!
well
he says exactly what i should expect him to say
and i agree with him completely
so there
No apologies necessary JBV. I enjoy hearing people's thoughts on such tings.
morning Judi
I think the nuns were too categorical in their policy - i think the real objection is to the use of dreams to foretell the future - it's considered a sin of superstition
no, that's not it
but the way I remember it - we werent' even supposed to talk about them
no?
you see, you can be superstitious and get carried away and use dreams to foretell the future when really they are just regular dreams that don't tell anything about the future, and that's just silly.
many silly things are considered sins, hurshy
right so that would be a sin.
Not much logic in superstition either.
*raises coffee cup* Here's to all us heathens and sinners.
Molly, I saw what you said earlier about wanting to do exactly what the nuns said not to -.... kindred spirits
And here's to the mad ones.
but there's also the possibility of dreams that really DO tell the future and those would have to come from either God or a demon. and if you get it from God then it is great and good. and if you get it from a demon, by making a deal with the devil, then that is sinful, even if it tells TRUE THINGS about the future.
and since 10-year-olds are incapable of such rational thinking, they just told us to forget the whole thing!
wondering now what kinds of dreams those nuns were having........
i think 10 year olds are actually quite capable of rationality. more so perhaps than many adults.
or I should have said, since they believed we were incapable....
I agree with you hurshy
kids tend to be able to easily think in simple categories, really. i think. so, i think the nuns did a disservice. but i do understand the temptation on the part of leaders to want to ward off the temptation to superstition in their flock. it's a hard balance.
anyway, that's what the Summa Theologica said about it, in a nutshell.
*hums a little tune*
alice the camel, in case you're wondering
(because it's hump day)
I laugh every time I see that commercial.

Hi, y'all. This grid is a bit sticky.
Nu5 begs the question... How can one be any more naked?
One can't, it is more nonsense from Enable.
Ever dependable Enable.
AND, if you're a zombie, you are certainly "undead".

zowie
zo.Oh...so sorry, good morning
Yes, und4, a word found at Dictionary.com and Merriam Webster, but not Enable...the hopelessly outdated word list.
We need a Voodoo dictionary.
Well thanks, cgypsy! :-))

Odd
I believe it refers to the cluing style that includes hump letter, snake letter, cross letter, etc.
My comment was a weak attempt at a joke, which went over in the usual fashion.
I think it devalues hump. :D
I think it devalues hump. :D

you will feel truly strange when you start to miss their annoying habits.
Phan, that house is about to be yours. Think of all the things you can do, that you haven't done since before you became a Mom. And as for the kids, it's a whole new (and fun) relationship with them, once they are out on their own.

Soodle, I just couldn't help it.
Hello Gapeach! How are you, my friend?
Sensing a very familiar vibe here.
Just sitting here listening to the rain.
Slinking back into the 'naughty corner'....
where the real party happens
...makes room in the naughty corner
Way-Hay!!!!!
Dang, it is thundering and lightening now. If it gets really close I will shut this down.
tries to get into the naughty corner
Your weather is headed our way, Peach
Sheesh Gape. You take care....,
Du6?
Yes, Molly, I believe it is. We are soggy and have been for about 6 weeks. I am getting a new driveway....and I have the concrete gone and the dirt is covered with plastic....just a bit of a mess.

Hello all from the very smokey Bitterroot Valley. *cough, sputter, cough*
Ty joso
Hi all :)
hi jilly, just watched a wwI movie, you don't want to know what they did to protect themselves from bad air
Hi there, Liz.
hi liz
Hi liz
Time to finish off the last 30 words! But thanks joso for that du 6 word - even though I had to look up the name of the cook!
I don't know, it's getting so that I dread August. Not the Montana summers I grew up with. Summer is always too short here, then to lose the end of it really sucks.
Hello lizlin
maybe sausage king jimmy is more famous
Hi Jilly - good to see you again.
Hi Jilly - good to see you again.
Haven't heard of the sausage king either - perhaps they never made it to either Aus or the UK!
probably not
I think Jimmy is Dean not the double vowel of Paula
Anyway I got the clue - a word I wouldn't have known!
So the clue worked for me!
new to me too lizlin
But then again, so many babble words are new to me! Then I just have to remember them! It's also amazing how 4 weeks of not playing put me so out of practice!
My granddaughter says I look like Paula Deen. I wish.
Now I'll really have to google her!
so short stem irish clay pipe wouldn't have done it for you liz, lol

I am SO happy -- spent all day with Grant in Tacoma: Art Museum, sushi for lunch then glass museum. WAY COOL. Love spending time with my kid.

Sounds like a great day.
glad you had such a great day with Grant! :-)
I sure enjoyed being with my boys this summer. Oldest one all summer then the two of them for 2 weeks...sort of, 4 days they had to go to Gillette to visit grandma.
Also sounds like you've had fun, Jilly
nice, jilly!
But for 3 days we all were together at the Irish Festival....glorious glorious time!! So you and I can both do the happy momma dance!!
<grin> We were singing Irish songs on the drive home...
Love it stiddy!! Our last meal as a family last Thursday was sushi!

she's awesome -- starting preschool in a couple weeks, which is astonishing
wow. how did she get so old so fast? *quickly checks for gray hair in mirror*
she told me tonight "I only like girls and women. And you, daddy"
interesting. I wonder what her criteria are? LOL kids' thinking is really amazing.
I think she's just still experimenting with who is which and what that means
yes, there is a lot of classification learning at that age. Grant's was simple: skirt = lady, pants = man. Except Mama. I was something else entirely, apparently.
Wow suddenly have NBT and NBS as well as down to 39. Time for supper! *poof8

Loneliness is an aching void in the center of our beings, a deep longing to love and be loved, to be fully known and accepted by at least one other person. It is a hollow, haunting sound sweeping through our depths, chilling our bones and causing us to shiver.
