greetings friends
good morning puglet. hope you are warm and the snow has stopped
morning bf--more snow later today and a big downfall in temp :(
How is it for you
We are to get three days of below zero weather. Hopefully we can make it thru. The cold is causing all kinds of problems here. We are all checking on our neighbors and calling friends making sure everyone is as comfortable as possible.
We are to get three days of below zero weather. Hopefully we can make it thru. The cold is causing all kinds of problems here. We are all checking on our neighbors and calling friends making sure everyone is as comfortable as possible.
Do you have neighbors that can check on you ?
sounds about like us---what state are you in? Iam in the mid-west of Indiana
we have neighbors but they dont check in with us
I live south of Pittsburgh, PA.
you guys just had a heavy snow storm , didnt you
We are in the midst of another several inches of snow tonight and tomorrow night. Enough already. You all have a lot of snow too, don't you?
I hope you don
I dont think we have as much as you guys. We just got 3-4 inches yesterday and about the same for today with strong winds and then a big drop in temps (about like you guys)
t have to get out in this weather. People here are working from home and not out on the roads. I will say tho that the road crews do a great job in keeping the roads clear. I will check outside to see how much snow is actually on the ground.
Then unless it changes a wintermix over both days next week end--
Also, I go to cbs Pittsburgh and click on the traffic cams and can see the snow all over the area the northern areas get a lot more than we do. our wind has stayed fairly calm so far. ready for spring
We still got big drifts from yesterdays snow. Iam so over this winter. It just seems to drag on and on
I think when people can'
thats neat to be able to do (the traffic cams)
can't get out they become quite surly. You can type in cbs and then whatever city you want and see is something comes up most cities have a cbs station. Most of my relatives are in the Midwest and west and I can check on their areas that way
okay, thanks for that -bf
hope all yu guys/gals are safe...we don't have that sorta storms here xoxo
thanks diz--Iam safe, just hard to get out and Hello
I just looked outside and it is so much snow. Must be around a foot or so. No one has shoveled their walks and we are not going to until next week. thanks diz, we are safe and warm thank goodness we are blessed with great neighbors and friends.
hey Pugs, me is trying imagine to be snow stormed in
has the snow quit bf
they have put on tv no one on the roads unless its a have to thing
the snow has stopped for now but it to begin again tomorrow and snow into Monday morning. Not sure how much more will fall and at this point it doesnot matter . our roads have been cleared and most folks have four wheel drive so getting out is not too bad but don' t want to
its not bad Diz if you are prepared for it but when it just lingers on and on like its been you need out for a while---Ive been so bored
ya need snow chains'
they havent touched ours yet. But the wind was so bad that it wouldnt had mattered anyway, and being out in the country ours are the last to get the plows
I live in a condo complex and some people are getting together for card games, etc and seem to be having fun with this. Pugs I think we will make snow icecream tomorrow.
red boxes
red boxes but are gone now
I've got to get up and walk around for a minute or two. will be back later.
that sounds yummy bf and thats nice you got people to help pass time
My poor dogs, are very active and its so cold they can only take it for five or ten minutes. They are getting coop up madness too-lol
just saw on CNN that people on a cruise ship have become ill with some kind of virus. really can't feel too sorry for them. my cats do not go outside but like to watch the snow falling they would be quite miffed to get their feet wet and cold. not that they are too spoiled and all.
They dont sound spoiled to me--lol
I don't have a dog anymore and miss having one. we really can't have one here as there is no yard for them to run and we have to keep them on leashes when outside.
maybe a very small dog might work
I thought about a small dog but have a big male cat that is such a terror. His name is Simon but also goes by Rambo Blunderbutt. We have had to tape the lamps to the end tables and night tables and cannot have anything on a flat surface as it becomes his play toy. We have had to block off the kitchen as he gets on the counters eand then opens the cabinet doors and the pantry and plays with the cans, etc. Hopefully he will grow up as he matures he is only a little over a year old . I have to watch him all the time. He tries to get into the back of the tv in my bedroom and see if the oeople are in there. it just goes on and on. like having a toddler around. I pop his butt with a rolled up newspaper to get his attention and it seems to slow him down a bit. he is so funny and fetches anything== thrown for him to catch. really enjoy him
Well with a cat like that why do you need a dog-lol---what does he look like
I have three rescue kitten/cats. They are black with very long silky fur and big plume like tails. Their fur is so soft and beautiful. Besides Simon we have Sophie, a very delicate female but puts Simon in his place often. She will wait until I throw a ball for him and then she will lay on it and he gets so upset. He knows better than to pounce on her as I will put him in the extra bedroom for time out and he haates being alone. The other cat is a male and about two years old. He is very shy and spends most of his time downstairs in the laundry. It is carpeted and warm so he has food and water and litter box and his own cat bed . Simon and Sophie sleep where ever they want. They ave cat beds but don't sleep in them much. They are all spoiled and beautiful.
I take it Simon is the newest to the family. Sophie seems to know how to put him in his place. Must be very fun watching them
I love my babies. Have always had cats but these seem to be special for some reason. How many dogs do you have? What kind?
I have my sister's cat(Sassy) when she divorce her ex took her to the pound and my sister went and got her and ask if I would take her. And I did. She was a house cat with my sister. Here she has to stay out due to the dogs. But she has adjusted very well. I have now had her about five years. She must be about twenty or close to it. It upset me that my sister has three house cats now with her new hubby.
I have 3--a pug--a great dane and a boxer (all rescue too) and then my sister has a small dog-(she is very old)
What a nice mix of dogs. A great dane would be like a giant dog next to the pug. I had a boxer growing up and it was a very good dog. It is nice that you live where they can be free outside and play like dogs are supposed to. your sister should come get Sassy I bet Sassy misses her. but it is nice that she has a good home with you. Do they have outside dog houses to stay in?
I have a barn--and they have a straw filled box up in the loft too. But she usually picks where she wants to sleep. And we have about 3/4 of an acre fenced in for the dogs.
hello everyone
Believe it or not, the great dane(Beulah) is bossed by the pug--lol
Hi Pink
I would love to live on a farm with a big garden and lots of pets. I think you are very lucky to be able to live out like you do. hI pink
hiya puglet nice to see eyou
I bet the great dane is very protective of the pug. what fun that must be to watch.
I do enjoy the country and always have
Nice to see you too Pink. Hows the weather where you are
going to finish the grid will talk again later.
cold and windy by you too I bet
Beulah can put Annapooh's whole head and more in her mouth but they play together so good. And they are funny
how sweet pug
Yes, Pink and waiting on more snow
yup0 here too
then a big drop in temps again
eactly it has been a very wintery winter lol
It has and no let up in sight---seems so long since we've had a day above the teens
very hard on the poor animals
and my heat and electric bills says so too--lol
this sis a n interesting grid
I know wow
I think the wildlife is suffering too-Everything is frozen and all---If and when I can Iam going to get come cracked corn to put out for them
i know pug i actually saw a coyote here scavenging
this grid dont seem too easy--or for me that is
just started but it seems to be smooth sailing
hoiw is grannyrose doing have not seen her
I got on late today but Iam having trouble just getting to the halfway mark
shes not been on for 3 days now. Shes not feeling very well

Morning. Which a does the 7 come from?
Hi alleyn--I dont have either but there is a ad7 and an7
hi, all. My son has just moved in with us following the death of his former stepmother, with whom he had lived for a few years.
Found it! The ad7 from the top.
Alleyn, Liz clued them at about 3:16
Is this something you wanted Angel and hello
puglet, yes. We offered and he accepted.
Found them. How does one view chat that has left the page?
the tiny square n4 to my friends
Thats good then Angel,, hope everything works out for you
How old is he?
he is 31, and he is looking for a job.
Thx. Always wondered what that was!
I wish luck to you both

going for coffee-brb
heloo? Dinky grid for a Sunday!
HELLO Ruby!
yay {{little pgs!!!}}
pugs*
It may be small but its not very friendly(or not so for me)
How is Mis Ruby today
they're never friendly for me. I'm happy with half, nbt and nbs, but don't always even get those.
As least with the big ones, there's something to do
Ive been so bored for the last several days. Crabby weather is making me feel closed in
Iam the same way,, if I can get half I feel okay
I can imagine. My sister, in NY, is miserable with extreme cold and ice as well as in termittent snow. She barely pokes her head out
I never list because even though Sprite showed me how, I could never do it on my own
and seems to be no let up anytime soon
Is your sister younger or older then you
we are very lucky with the weather here. only one small snowstorm so far and most days, it hovers around 35-40F/
My sister is 6 years older but has an infirm husband and is stuck with his care and caregivers
that would feel like spring here--lol
the irises thought so, too, and are about 4 inches up. If we get a hard frost there'll be no flowers
that takes alot out of a person
I have alot of irises--ne4 to lilac they are my favorites
Ive been trying to find me a white iris but havent had any luck in finding one yet
my friend Catherne gave me some pale lavender ones and some that are almost black about 3 years ago, but I've hardly had any flowers although they come up. Either the dogs chew them up or the weather doesn't cooperate.
InPris, next to the Luxembourg Gardens, is a small plot of "ris garden" which I've nly seen once, but it must have 60 different kinds of ris It's gorgeous! You would faint
Ive got about five or six different colors
Oh that would be very pretty I bet---did you take pictures of it
no, I only saw it once, years ago, and didn't have a camera
Are you pretty far from paris
4 hrs by train, 6 by car
thats not too bad I guess if you dont mind traveling
I wish we had trains to travel by here
I've gone a couple of times, but I can't leave Burt any more
I understand that! Are you not afraid to travel alone
I don't like cities any more but when I was working, I travelled all over the place alone. Since 9/11 I'm afraid of flying and spooked by crowds and subways
I think alot of people are now -a-days
I know for myself I dont feel safe going into the bigger cities with all the crime that goes on
I'm afraid too, not so much of crime but of terrorists and crowds bumping into me
do you not have a girlfriend that would go on outings with you
I get you there. Gangs and stuff like that have grown so much the last few years
I go to the movies and out to lunch about once a month with my friend but, otherwise, it's too hard to leave old Burt
the last time I took a train outside of London, a gang went running through the train, banging the seats and making a lot of noise. I was terrified
well thank goodness you get out at least then. That helps you to get a break from home life
oh my! I bet you were!
we go to Annecy to the movies, about 15 minutes away. But the whole valley, with its many towns and villages, has a population of less than 150,000
How long have you lived there now Ruby
since Nov '98
uh oh, have to go. Mr. Burt is up de-icing the car!
See you later, sweetie!
okay, bye Ruby
good morning all :)
or make that afternoon, oops
WOW! I thought you had ran away! lol good morning
hi pug, my darling, am so sorry. Late night, bit of a nasty waking and then it was hiccup time when I tried to log on, so I answered emails first.
I heard back from rose and it will be ok, dear pug. Don't worry too much. Just give her time to work through this. It was bound to happen.
NP,,sorry about the bad night---I thought I was going to lose you along with our Rose--cause you wont be here tomorrow
I do worry for her but as long as I see her lurking I know shes there
no, will go to the clinic tomorrow. But after that I'll be back in the mornings. Missed you too!
I know you worry, grin. Just try to not do it too much. Have faith in her strength and courage. She will pull through.
I got on late today too and missed most everyone and I havent seen OO lurking or on here either
he might still pop in.
They are going through a whole new like life and I get that. Will take many changes to (dont know what word to use)
those are the right words, I think, and you are right. Plus they have to digest all that has happened. Our rose even more than Don, with her mother dying and her physical ordeals. Time will help, and so will we.
so how is everything at your house
all good. Husband had a gout attack in his knee, of all places, but is walking again now. Kids are busy teenagers and enjoying themselves. And I am ok, with Terra at my feet and you in the chog.
Ive have been so bored the last few days :(---My friend Carol and her hubby was to come over the week end but due to weather thats out :(
Hi sprite and pugs - hugs :)
oh that stinks :( Such a bummer when you have looked forward to their company. And then us not present in chat too, so sorry!
Hi Liz--welcome back
hi Liz! *hugs* Have emailed you about the books, let me know if anything isn't clear.
Sorry that your friend didn't make it over this weekend, pugs.
good morning everyone:)
thanks Liz
hey crossy :) *hug*
Hi Mr Crossy
Yes, thanks sprite. Just read the e mail - but will sort it tomorrow - a couple of glasses of wine tonight, as I told pugs, to celebrate one year an Aussie!
oh check out our icons... all animals here.
Hi Crossy.
That's funny sprite - hadn't noticed that before!
gratz on one year of Aussiedom, Liz! And don't worry, the books will keep. Indefinitely even. Whenever you feel like it, just use the link.
well I feel like a animal in a cage--lol
Really looking forward to it :)
*throws pug the key* Come on out and play with us.
Well I hope you get released soon, pugs. Saddens me to see animals in cages!
Is that the holiday Liz
You mean Australia Day?
yes
That's today but there's a public holiday tomorrow because it falls on a Sunday.
and whats it for
Australia day marks the landing of the first fleet (from the UK) in Australia on 26 Jan 1788.
and how is our crossy today? And his beloved Elegant?
I am fine sprite and my beloved sends her best
A date I had to learn for my citizenship test!
Your turtle looks typically evil, crossy. I've bookmarked it!
good to hear, crossy. *hugs* to you both.
oh
it is for pros only liz. it is deadly
Crossy, I was not able to find your sea turtle puzzle
crossy makes the most evil puzzles, lol
When I've time and am not tired I'll try it!
try again, pugs. I made some adjustments yesterday and you should see it now
oh dear, it is in black and white! Even more evil.
okay---it was yesterday morn when I tried finding it
Yes, pugs. I found it today.
okay
they are not all evil!! the R.M.S segwun and the farm pumphouse are very friendly
ra 6 plz and good morning all
good morning ivesy!
yes and the snow fence wasent too bad
Hi ivesy, how are you and winter
ra 6 is like the la 6 - meaning to fire off a rocket (the la 6) Ra 6 often has a y at the end.
don't have it yet, sorry ivesy
mountain rive was also very nice but mountain stream in autumn took some work, as well as the 744
And good morning ivesy
ah, thanks Liz
yw!
the 744 was pretty ok for me. The mountain stream took a lot of work.
I done the jeep too and it seems to be the easiest
the jeep and the turkeys were a special request by a babbler
I think mountain stream was the hardest followed probably by the turkeys!
744 was OK because the grid is so familiar. it helped because I changed the background colour.
Iam working on your eggs now Sprite
oh, they are fun, pug. At least I thought so when I worked it.
ty liz!
I did not know about the ability to change the bg colour when I did the 744 and I will let you guess what colour my last puzzle piece was...
white!
White!
bingo!
yw ivesy.
*giggles* Seems we have all been there and done that.
It amazes me the speed at which some people complete the puzzles!
this here looks like a tricky little grid, btw.
Where are all those words hiding?
yeah like Sprite!
I"ve stalled at 35 left! It's been pretty tough going. I probably won't find many more tonight, so will finish tomorrow.
it takes me hours and then I dont always get them
oh Liz, did you see that under my space puzzle someone went on a rant to complain about those quick people being cheaters? Don't know how he/she figures that. No way somebody cheats. They are just better than I am.
met a concrete wall at 48 IN!
yeah, how can you cheat on a puzzle?
How can anyone cheat at a puzzle. I think some people possible have larger screens, which would help. I think some people just manipulate the pieces faster or see colours and shapes faster.
I think so and the ability to organize the pieces at the start
beats me. He is talking about manipulating the puzzle or hitting 'solve'. Nonsense if you ask me.
as for an actual " cheat" I do not think so
I had an uncle that worked puzzle fast (real ones) He never sorted out edge pieces but worked right from the box
anyway, I thinkk some people have more practice and some are simply better. And yes, having a big screen helps. I often shrink the puzzle a little further than necessary and it makes solving (and organising) easier.
with real ones, and jigidi, I always sort
me too--except for those under 20
yeah and organising your pieces is not cheating. That is just a technique to use. I always sort too. I want to have my frame before I go puzzling. Btw, I don't even want to be fast. Jigsaws are like meditation for me. Would hate to feel rushed.
i do not play anything under 150
I've also added a comment sprite. I also shrink the puzzle to start and move the pieces in as I have fewer left and then expand the puzzle more and more.
I only work the huge ones.
I worked mimicats, though they were small because they were lovely photos and she's a babble friend!
Otherwise I also tend to work the larger ones.
I dont often but some I want to see the poem or whatever writing is on them and I cant see them unless I work them and enlarge them
funny though, sprite, with the sea turtle, the game would not let me go higher than what it is currently set at. it maxed in the 200,s
I think it depends on the resolution of the pic, crossy.
ahh
yes, I have noticed something similar with my puzzles, crossy. I think it depends on resolution and on ratio.
Liz--I think you can now access my 3 puzzles. I haven't gone back in to make them more difficult, so they're very easy and pretty pictures. They've all been my icons here in the past.
and i have moved my poetry off of babble. for those interested, you may now find them on poetry.com
I did your 3 puzzles, mimi - I enjoyed them but usually do larger puzzles.
((crossy)) I still don't have the turtle...don't know why. I've refreshed more than once. Maybe I need to get out of it completely and come back?
under your name here Crossy
I left you messages after completing them, Mimi.
yes, puglet and the ones on poetry.com are all my own
okay
actually no,puglet, under my real name. just email me for info
I didn't know I could make them more complicated but crossy says I can so I'll try to do that at some point. I didn't get your messages, Liz...where did you leave them?
bookmarkd, crossy, thanks
Where it says "comment".
since money and prizes can come from that site, i used my own name
Okay crossy
Ahhh--will look later, Liz. Thanks.
yup many players offer their puzzles in easy and hard versions, mimi
Mimi, Crossy said he fixed the turtle puzzle. I too had trouble getting it
They are lovely pics, Mimi.
yup the turtle is ready now
awesome, crossy, I like it. Bookmarked!
i played yours, mimi. they are pretty
will add some later this week again. Wasn't in the mood to create new ones when battling the flu, but much better now.
Look forward to them!
I am too
i will try to add one new on a week. have not travelled up on the mountain in a bit, but will fix that soon
OK off to my book. Rereading The Book Thief, having seen the film last week, which I enjoyed.
Great--I'll go back and try to get the turtle. I'm finding Mountain River a bit challenging...and you know I'm not much into challenges where my games/puzzles are concerned.
enjoy, Liz! *hugs* Have a lovely evening.
25 left for tomorrow. Hugs to all and enjoy your days :)
bye Liz, enjoy
good morning all - enjoying puzzles on jigidi - thnx for making them and letting us know about this - another addiction

what kind does the Sprite person have on there or did you check
Gotta go for now and finish up some work. Back later. Hugs all around.

How did you come by using that handle Crossy, if you dont mind me asking
let me see, still working on a Dutch money puzzle, a puzzle with stars for Liz, and a fireworks puzzle.
BTW, crossy, it won't let me make my puzzles more complex...must be that issue with picture resolution.
:((
ok, duty calls here, must be off for now. *hugs*. Have a blessed day and a peaceful night.
Sprite, going to try your Christmas Stars smaller puzzle...looks like it would be a lot of fun to do.
it stems from a nickname i was given long ago when i was a member of a gun club. It recognized my skill with a scoped rifle and the crosshairs used to aim with. not as pretty as a angry bunny rabbit but that is the story
bye Sprite--hugs
I have a couple of puzzles in smaller size, mimicat. Have fun with them.

Hello PH & Gramma & everyone. :-)
Godd Afternoon, Everyone. How are you today? (I'm not even going to comment on the weather today....)

My Dad got out of hospital today for a few hours. We had an advance birthday lunch for him. He turns 86 on Wednesday. Tho, he refuses to believe this..... He reckons he is in his 50's.... (I, his daughter, am in my 50's. .... Go figure!)

I've discovered that it takes me four times as long if my teenagers actually want to converse with me while I'm trying to work on one!
and now it is time for crossy's poem of the day (this one is dedicated to my son)
Sundays too my father got up early and put his clothes on in the blue black cold, then with cracked hands that ached from labor in the weekday weather made banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him. I'd wake and hear the cold splintering, breaking. When the rooms were warm, he'd call, and slowly I would rise and dress, fearing the chronic angers of that house, Speaking indifferently to him, who had driven out the cold and polished my good shoes as well. What did I know, what did I know of love's austere and lonely offices? - Robert hayden
Wow.
Nice!
and you get a twofer! it is also time for crossy's tidbit of the day!!
The worlds quietest room is minus 9Db. That is so quiet that you can actually hear your blood flowing. The silence is so maddening that it can actually cause hallucinations. The longest anyone has been able to spend in this room is 45 minutes.
Mu lucky day!
why??
i would imagine for audio records. no outside noise pollution

My secret is to get someeone else to do it.
DH can't even SEE the screw right now; so that's out
sounds hard.
Start the screw with tweezers
(Now I'm thinking I shouldn't have taken it out)
trying that, o-o. I had to get a different pair of tweezers just now with a narrower grasping point
I use the screwdriver from an eyeglass repair kit.
good idea!
How many one-armed men does it take to change a light bulb? One! (As long as he kept the receipt) Ba Boom
that's also what I'm using, Molly; but I need to stat the dang screw first
yukka yuka Soodle
The oldies are the goldies, Hego!!
LOL! Well, maybe it's now a moot point. I dropped the screw... I'll be back after I find and get the damn thing in!
you bet!!
Use a magnet!!
or a small ball of plastecine to hold it with
@ Nef.... As the actress said to the bishop!
put a bit of pantyhose over the end of the vacuum cleaner nozzle and you can find the screw just by vacuuming the area
i like to use the 100 dollar pair my wife just bought:))))
WHAT!
NM. I found it (with a magnet) and concentrated on doing the job at hand instead of doing too many things at once.
good job!!
Yay Nef!
nurses must be fonts of ingenuity.
This is the neatest little bookmark light and I've had it for several years. I just thought I'd open the battery port and see what kind of batteries it would need before it totally dies.. I will wait (next time) until some young person is around before I try something with tiny screws again I guess
crossie, if the poetry stuff is your own writing I'd like to see it. (Like Nef, I too copied your poem.)
I didn't know anyone wore panty hose anymore.
Moll is right, tho, those eye glass kits are great for that stuff.
I don't Molly
LOL, hego. I really think that being able to think outside the box is a definite trait of nurses
a must
I have not been outside since Fri evening.
this is a sad fact.
it is my own , roundbarn.
hi RoundBarn!
Hi Kap
is heidiger's cat in with you?
that's not unusual for me Kap.
Hi RB
No- my velvet underground, Lou and Nico.
That's good to know Hego- I feel like a slug.
that was a joke to Kaplan. Hi, Nef, I Hi /crissie--yes, I'd like to see your won compositions Crossie. You have my enmail.
hi Kap. I took some recycling out to the bin; does that count? (oh, and have shoveled paths for the dog several times too)
ahh ole Nate hawthorne indeed
Oh no, here we go with is the cat inside or outside the box. That one makes my head hurt.
In this weather, hibernating is the thing.
No, my cats are in and out of the boxes. Molly, Allison Sweeney is leaving Days of Our Lives this year, fyi.
well kap said she hadn't been outsiee the box--if it's like the pb, it could be stocked
Sammi Brady- care to audition?
I was in the PB this morning I think.
Lou and Nico think I am their mommy.
that's right--i was on when you gae us all thiose super clues and a few false leads. great!
does that count?
Wait, that was Schrödinger's cat.
I think I end up in the PB probably once a day myself. Thank goodness it gets stocked so much
Yeah, that was fun of me.
schrodieger, heidiger--what's the diff?
i will send you a few samples, RB
Can you get fat in a virtual penalty box?
Did Husserl have a cat?
virtual fat
hard to lose
thanks crossie--i enjoy, not tear apart.
not as hard as real fat though hego
It's easier to talk about The Minister's Cat
The Minister? His cat? I think I better go to bed. I've lost the plot. :-(
Pay attention!1
that is well,RB,they are delicate at best. They may not stand up to harsh light:)) they are on the way to your in box in 2 minutes
Heading bedward, confused. Luckily, thats my default these days, so I expect to sleep like a baby. (I.e. Nod off to sleep & wake up screeching about 3.00 am)! Good night all.
Good Night, Soodle. Sleep well
Nitey nite Soodle.
Could someone explain why "swede" is a word but "dane" isn't?
have often wondered
ok Roundbarn, i THINK it may be in your in-box now. had some difficulty
Good morning all
Enable only accepts words that are in its dictionary: TYPES OF WORDS NOT ALLOWED Proper nouns, abbreviations, contractions, hyphenated words and foreign {words that are not in the Enable Dictionary.} This issue is not whether dane is a word. It may well be a word. It is not, however, in the Enable Dictionary.
The Minister's Cat is a Victorian parlor game. It's featured in the film Scrooge (the musical)
nef, a swede is a ppor cousin of a squash in England. but a dam ne-we ught to have a dof be ok
swede is a vegetable Nef
half way and I can't see anymore words. :-(
Aha! Lynn has the explanation.
So it's only a word if they say it's a word. Neener, neener.
apparently a swedish turnip - hence swede I guess
hey I did too--even though my entry was badly misspelled
No. The the Help section spells it out, so to speak.
sorry RB, didn't see yours.
ahh, the mysteries of Enable
Wow. I didn't think I'd get so many responses to that. What smart people there are here
All the exceptions are superfluous if in the dictionary
Yes 0-0, but the qquestion is why are some words not in that dictionary when thay are in all the others?
I remember as Mum used to put turnip and swede in her pasties and in her soups - I hate them both
the dictionary rules all. (I just wish it was updated a bit)
when I ordered swede in England the first time I was there, at age 22 or 3, what a disappointment. Pale, watery, tasteless. But I found other thijhgs surprisingly good.)
how does a swede differ from a turnip? (I love turnips)
Done and must go. Bye All.
Its just another type of turnip Nef
bye Hego
The Enable Word List has not been updated in 14 years. That may explain it.
I have no answer, hego, other that the caprice of the Enable word compilers. I like Enable because it is so endearing.
other than
YAY, hego!!! WTG!!! bye hego.
oh-oh. Natural gas pipeline broke south of Winnepeg. Not good news in this weather! :-(
endearing?! maybe capricious
lynxxx, does it taste or look different than the others?
Wow ... not so far from Winnipeg
I can't answer that Nef - too long ago. I avoid them both much to my husbands annoyance
NM, lynxxx, I just Googled it. It's a rutabaga to me
Guess its just swede in England...and most of our 'language' here stems from England
crossie, nothing has showed up (shown up?) on my email, do you have it right? jjack1@uis.edu
Good evening folks
hi Bichon
I'm listening to MPR, o-o.
Isn't a swede a rutabaga?
yes - that's what Nef just found out
parnips it might be
or.. er.. perhaps
maybe a version of a rutabega--not as strong. Do we even grow swedes in the midwest? anywhere this side of the atlantic?
ou 6, pls
no - parsnips (another horrid root vegetable) are conical like carrots - swede is round
I like parsnips in soup
parsnips are a much underappreciated vegetable. Fixed right, they are delicious. Far better than the ubiqitoud cartrot.
bichon, won the race
out - gout to the finishing line first
gout - got
I liked gout, but ty
But I wouldn't want gout
I can't spell, I'm quitting and back to work. Just dsas a bunch of scary food movies. We're feeding our children useless food in their school cafeterias--but I'll quit on that topic.
I agree with you about parsnips too, RB. With any of those root veggies, they are great if prepared right
feed those kids turnips and swedes! Bye Roundbarn
I love parsnips
lynxx, we'll have to meet on different ground. List your subjects, I can pick a mutual one. But not now--back to work.
ch5.16 another vegetable we call something else down here - silverbeet to us
BBL, I'm not seeing any word now and need to take a break
That comment was very tongue in cheek Roundbarn
I realize it, Lynxx--and ch5 is very good--my daughter grew lush gardens of it. By, nef, Lynxx, all--and Crossie I musr email and tell him I never got his pomes.
let me know if you received my e-mail RB. i have a funny feeling i may of missed the mark.
I had someone from a gallery supposed to come this morning and I waited 4 hours, so he rescheduled and now I fear he's not coming. This is what happens when you get vain enough to try to deal with galleries. Small-time.
will send it again rb
The documentary of American Masters on JD Salinger made me really mad. Just read the man's work! Damn stalkers!
there. think that did it that time,RB
I cringed when I saw Joyce Maynard.
Joyce Maynard not one of my favorite people
Clues for the 7s?
He would have hated this film which could only have got made after he died.
da 6, pls
For those who want more info on ENABLE: http://tinyurl.com/mcabvnv
Nor I. His son Matt was notably not part of it.
after fighting with the thing for almost six year, i think i know just about all i want to know of Enable :))
Joyce Maynard's mother who sent her 18 year old off on a bus in a hand sewed minidress to go live with Salinger

Anyway, the only good thing is that their will be more works released slowly between 2015 and 2020, that deal with his war experiences, early marriage, a Glass and Caulfield family chronology.
That's one of the reasons I don't like her, the Salinger link
For those who care. But no more stalking tell-all movies. My husband wanted to watch it, and told me that I couldn't talk and swear at it the whole time.
Like your Spanish Vacation ones Kap
Well what fun is that?
I have read every word he has published innumerable times since I was 12, and I know all I need to know, especially from his struggle with Seymour- an Introduction.
Spaniah vacation ones- a long time ago.
Thank you though.
<---liked Catcher in the Rye
There's the Bradys nd the Hortons- but there's really the Caulfields and the Glasses.
Catcher was the beginning.
Of fame.
Thought that was the Bradys and the Mannings ?
does a catcher in the rye need a mitt?
No, the Hatfiields and the McCoys.
ha
And the Ricardos and the Mertzes.
For Molly- every time you eat pastrami, pile the cold cuts high
othewise you'll see salami comin through the rye.
would you call it a grain slam for a homerun then?
Customers should see salami Comin through the rye, that is.
Kramdens and the Nortons
We're such a witty group here
Let us not forget the Petries and the Helpers.
ga 6?
Oh no, I've gotten my reruns mixed up with my deli sandwiches.
ga6 is where you plant your flowers Bich
i cannot believe I missed that ga6 ty molly
It's a twisty one
and i watched the salinger doc. the stalking would not be odd today, but back then it was.
ty Molly
can someone pls tell me if the grammys are on yetand wear?
Regular show is 8PM on CBS/Eastern Standard Time. Don't know about the red carpet stuff.
thanks, molly. the roots stuff was this afternoon. cj chenier accept a posthumous award for his father clifton, the father of zydeco.
what's the stalking thing?
well, folks would try to meet salinger because they considered him a guru of sorts.
well.. he was a recluse thought wasn't he
Being overly interested in the personal life of someone you do not know...I've never quite understood that. Must be a habit of the lonely.
yes, he was.
well.. he was a celebrity of his time wasn't he?
he was an author. the cult of celebrity was not established as it is today.
sometimes it is best not to know the real person behind the writer or the actor anyways
well. Steven King I would never want to meet. although calling him an author is a slam to other writers
is molly still here?
lol, ruru, he must have some redeeming value as a author?
but then again, it has now gotten to such a point he could publish his shopping list at the grocers and sell a million copies
A lot of people say that about Stephen King. They've never read his good stuff.
what would his good stuff be?
I really don't know.. I have read a couple.. they all pretty much seem to me to be the same thing.
The Shawshank Redemption is one of them.
oh well. I did like that.. that was a great movie
It's an even better story. From the same book of stories that "The Body" comes from, which was the basis for the movie "Stand By Me".
ok.. I retract that statement.
King is a lot better when he backs away from the scary stuff and gets into relationships.
His book "On Writing" (non-fiction) is excellent for anyone who is interested in honing their writing skills.
Just jumping in for a minute to say King's book "Dolores Claiborne" is incredible
oh he wrote that too?
Ok.. i'm really stupid now.. loved that movie too
That is another one that is less about "horror" and more about the dark side of the human personality.
Yes! Intense story about a difficult mother-daughter relationship
I thought he just did horror stuff
Kathy Bates best movie ever.
Kathy Bates was great in that movie, and in Misery.
she was fabulous in that movie
Hello again...
do you like my hat?
Phan has been into the hard stuff again.
really.
no, making a Dr. Suess reference...
People often get fluent in Suess when they have been slamming shots.
haha. not this kid... Not a fan of shots...
o.O
just wine.
Ah, one of those "just wine" people. I get it.
yup, htat's how I roll...

And you're right Mixi, it is a hallucinogen.
It made a local family pretty sick a couple years ago.

Ugh, Beyonce and Jay-Z open the Grammy Awards.
doesn't start for another hour here, enjoying the ProBowl now
I will be watching Downton Abbey
If it gets too bad it'll be Sherlock for us
There is not much about popular music that I like anymore. My son is watching.
Well, Ringo and Paul are supposed to be performing as well...almost worth watching for
molly, did you see that clifton chenier got a lifetijme grammy award? that puts zydeco right up there with michael jackson and other music greats
and speaking if ringo, does anyone think he's been "done"?
That's great TO. I'm glad they are recognizing SOME people with talent.
http://tinyurl.com/jvt6uje
Glad to see that a zydeco artist has been given this award.
My eyes are starting to spin....
Hey, there, spinner!
Hi mimi!! I am freezing tonight, I suppose you are cozy warm...
Not to rub it in, Jilly, but it has been in the upper 70's here during the day. Too soon, however, it will be like living in a sauna.
And if we don't get some snow I dread the fire season Snow level a good 2000 ft higher than it should be...
I keep missing you here...good to finally touch base. And hello Molly and TO and everyone!
My times here have been a bit erratic lately, it's good to see you!!
We have that issue here in Flagstaff and other northern regions...hate fire season.
You can come and visit any time, Jilly! You're always welcome.
Thanks sweetie!! As you are here when you need to escape the heat...
I just might take you up on that around July or August. Especially since I'm hoping my lawsuit will be settled in May and I'll finally have that money....keep a good thought for me.
You know I LOVE Montana!
:)
mi mi go sit in the penalty box with ru for mentioning tempertures above freezing to taunt us.
Well, I sorta started it.... *hangs head in shame*
BTW, Jilly, was hoping my thyroid tests would come back telling me I needed Synthroid...but no luck there...turns out I'm just FAT!! Am really exploring options and right now drinking lots of jasmine tea for the pro-biotics and going to order a highly rated "green drink." I HATE this weight gain...it's like being Siamese twins with someone you HATE.
Gladly will go to the PB, TO...always a party there!
Ok, I give...clue for the ha5?
Oh, I know mimi! tis a daily challenge for me.
past tense of a rabbit Jilly, as if that is possible
Sorry if this offends anyone, but I'm convinced God does not like old women.
rison to a conjoined twin you hate
cripes! ty bugs
Sorry. Mimi I loved your comparison to ..... I have no idea what happend to the first part
I said that carrying around this extra weight is like being a Siamese twin with someone you hate, Bugs.
and I loved that! I have the same person hanging on me
I'll let Jill address this because she is the medical person, but don't some heart medications slow down your metabolism?
Bugs, I didn't even have a good time gaining the weight! Until 4 years ago I was 123 lbs. and my daughter was giving me the jeans she could no longer fit into---she's 35 yrs. younger! Oh, I want that back. Gravity is no longer my friend. (Excuse me while I pick up my boobs so I won't trip while waking across the room.)
Thank you, Molly, but I'm on minimal medication now and most the weight happened before the heart attack. But I appreciate you trying! Apparently, my metabolism has come to a dead STOP. It's like being held hostage by the giant marshmallow man from Ghostbusters...and he won't let me out!
It's called furniture disease mimi.....you know...chest in your drawers
I used to be able to put on take off weight all the time but after menopause it just goes on and stays there. Even when I broke my ankle, ate only twice a day and hardly much at all, I only lost 5 pounds which is probably the atrophied muscles.
LOL, Jilly! In my case it's almost chest in my ankles.
love that term Jilli
What Bugs just said. Post menopause is something else that messes with your metabolism. Apparently, estrogen is our friend.
Well, for me, I have learned that simple carbs are not my friend...and I miss them so much!
*thirds the post regarding menopause

waves to PIni!
hiya bugs! :o)
I'm determined to remedy this..can't stand it anymore. It affects EVERYTHING in your life. Wish I could afford liposuction...but I know that's a bad choice. I'm not on hormone replacement at all but convinced I should be. I had no insurance and no money for so long that I had no choice. Now I'm going to do something about it.
Hi pini!!
hey JJ :o)
I've been trying to figure out how to lose some weight since...if nothing else in the hopes the "ladies" will lose weight, too....
Does anyone else get EXTREMELY hot while sleeping? Honestly, I have a huge fan on me all the time. Good thing there isn't a man in my life because it would be really embarrassing.
I'm with you, MC...I have a fan on in my room (if nothing else, just to circulate aire - evening during the winter months)...
I went on that Garcinia Cambogia and, oddly enough, had a relapse of my atrial fibrillation about 3 weeks into it, though I was off all medication and stable for many months before. Coincidence?
...sometimes when I get warm, I roll to my stomach, flip the covers, and start kicking to cause a closer breeze...
Hi Pini. I sleep with a fan on most of the year, but not when it's this cold.
Mine sleeping thing is worst, need heating blanket on to go to bed, then hubby takes the blanket off me when he comes to bed so I don't overheat later.
(EGADS, I just remembered, my bunkmate is here....oh, so embarassing if I did that on our trip!!!!) *blush*
I will say that CoQ10 has helped my energy level extremely well. I take 200 mg a day. It's supposed to help the heart.
*has visual of pini sleeping*
hey, molly :o)
...trust me, JJ...it doesn't last long, cuz sleeping on the girls just aint that comfortable...
if you did that on the trip Pini, I appreciated it :)
** finito ** last word AL 6/24
*sigh of relief* thx for the reassurance, bugs! LOL

Jilly, I so envy women whose husbands actually are mindful of their needs. I never had that experience in 23 years of marriage.
WooT WooT WooT teach!!
Yay teach
You're right, Jilly, carbs are the enemy. I'm verging on diabetes right now and know that if I could lose weight and get on track with eliminating carbs, I'd be OK. Really hard to do...love pasta and potatoes.
I know vegans have a tendency to stay thin, but I'd lose the will to live if I had to give up cheese!
Queso drama !
((ruru)) you have no idea...as men age they become distinguished...we become hags. Not fair.
Doc told me to lose weight ... so I hid a barbell.
ROFL, o-o!
hi again. So nice to see so many old friends! ;-)
Nef, dear---good to see you!
I would have to lose my enjoyment of eating and be okay with being bored out of my mind if all I ate was fruit and vegetables.
Hi there nef...jump on in!!
hi ru, o, nef... :)
better distinquished than extinguished I've always said
hello friends!
(We sound like we are all in the same boat; at *that certain* age!
There 'ya go, Molly!
you know what they say molly.. an apple a day :D
(brb)
Oh trust me, all men do not age in a distinguished way.
And that boat seems to be the Titanic, Nef....
<---desperately trying to look distinguished
I don't think so, mimi. I'm picturing a huge old sail boat and a full moon as we sail off into the sunset......
I've resigned myself to the fact that my looks are gone and I must now settle for being colorful.
Good for you, Nef---I'm sinking like a stone...must be the added weight...
that reminds me of a very funny joke molly
Notice Nef said a HUGE sail boat. : D
ou6 plz
Funny, Molly!
I noticed MOON
not in + not walk
How much did you gain, mimi? I've been going to Weight Watchers for a year now; lost 30 lbs; but put 9 back on in the past 2 months(and it took forever to lose it before!)
I've lost 15 pounds but gained back 4.. now working on eliminating those pounds
ty ruru dear, thought I had tried that one...
Great clue, ruru.
I'm embarrassed to even say, Nef...it's that bad. And my diet isn't even that bad. I was 123 lbs. into my 50s and then, boom...weight...makes no sense. I was still active (sang with a classic rock band until about 3 years ago) and had lots of boy toys coming after me. These days would have to settle for stationary Legos.....
I try not to be a stress eater; but man! I blew it over the last 2 months
Mimi, maybe you stayed slim being chased by the boy toys?
:D
That's the weird thing...I DON'T eat as a comfort at all and keep no "snacks" in the house. I'm really perplexed at how this happened.
Dear God molly, watching the beginning of the grammies..
brb
Yeah, Nef, maybe---but I didn't actually run that fast. Had to beat them off with a stick..but it was a small stick...and I wasn't that committed to it!
You were warned. This is what passes for music these days.
jilly: google the lyrics.
Mimi, I don't have snacks or junk food in our house either.
brings a whole new meaning to surfboard....
ROFL
Stick with it for the new kid, Hunter Hayes. He's an up and comer.
hi everyone!
I am lucky i was not drinking anything jilly!
My youngest grandson is showing strong signs of musical appreciation...oh, boy...loving that. He got that from ME!
OK, Jilly, I'm lost...I don't have cable...what is the surfboard reference?
Hi, dawg!
Yes, Molly, LOVE Hunter Hayes. And Kacey Musgraves is a good new one as well. So is Civil Wars.
hi lbd
hi mimi, hi nef
I could talk music FOREVER...so will not burden the chog with that. Need to go and have dinner. Great discussion, everyone! Hugs all around.
i saw civil wars. i love kacey
and there is another female country s/s but i cannot remember her name
You are obviously a woman of taste, TO! My daughter turned me on to Civil Wars and I turned her on to Kacey...we've always done that with music.
hi dawg!
Not sure all of you know that I'm classically trained in voice but love nothing better than belting out classic rock...can just feel my vocal coach rolling over in her grave....
i am struggling to find that other name, better than kacey
The new "country" artists are the best---most of the real poetry lyrics now come from that genre. I am a big Stevie Nicks, Linda Ronstadt, Karla Bonoff fan....as I said, could go on and on.....
brandy clark@ and holly willima si great , too
hi jilly
Had not heard of them, TO---thanks!
check out 2013 women of country on NPR.org
and if you liek civil wars, you may like lone bellow
The sister in Civil Wars reminds me so much of Allison Krause who has one of the most haunting voices I've every heard.
It takes REAL talent to be that subtle.
do you also like lumineers?
allsion krause is just indescribable
Like Norah Jones...simple and beautiful. Love Diana Krall as well...with the classic songs. Did you know she is married to Elvis Costello?
yes. i love him.
Used to adore Vince Gill but don't hear him much anymore. There's also a song by Diamond Rio called "One More Day" that is one of the most touchingly beautiful I've every heard.
have you heard norah jones and billie joe armstrongs tribute to phil everly?
i am not a fan of commercial country. i like my music more stripeed down - roots
No, TO---I'll now be all over that!
TO, you MUST listen to Little Big Town and Lady Antebellum...the harmony is incredible.
'evening, all
Welki!!!
i have herd them. hi welk! did you see my fb post about clifton chenier's grammy?
hi there welki!
i did - and replied. thought i'd be able to see the presentation tonight, checked to see if i missed it - found out it had been given to his son yesterday
The songs I sang on stage were a combo of Linda Ronstadt, Heart, Pat Benatar, Trisha Yearwood...and more...mixed it up pretty good!
hi welki
hi neighbors!
Personally, I think Martina McBride has the best vocal range and tone I have EVER heard...including Streisand.
I don't get the fascination with Lorde and "Royals"
And for my money, Garth Brooks is the best entertainer who ever has been or ever could be.
her worl ethic is incredible and she put on one of the BEST shows we have ever had at our festical, across all categories. Nice person, too.
molly, i think it is because she is so young and the ever present backlash against the nouveau riche of rap and hip hop
yes. not newsworthy enough, welk. BTW i received a whole slew of real mardi gras photos from my LA friend last night. i hope you get to meet him.
Wasn't I leaving? OK---really going now. Great discussion, though....love talking music. Hugs all around.
okay...giving up...need clue for the ra6

i love iris dement. my ex HATED her first cd, and i think i gave it away

shorten it, or you'll get that pesky \n
how did you do that?
♫♪¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪ just highlight the notes, copy and paste

or, better yet, ask molly for the keys to choose - i use a mac, and don't know the commands for notes
