Well, back to the Tour de France. [poof]
good morning all. Jeezzz what a lousy size grid today. Even worse than yesterday's!
cooee. and g'day from me. morning sprite.
*hugs rose* Hello my darling, how are you doing today?
recovered from dinner last night. my goodness! we were treated to such a lovely meal.
and you, sweetie? have you had a good night?
how lovely! Glad you had a good time.
mwah, could be worse.
when you walk into a chinese restaurant, and 90% of the diners are chinese, you can bet the cuisine is 5 star.
oh my, indeed! Never happened to me. Sounds divine.
do you know, sprite? today's parent of young children have a lot to learn from the chinese. that restaurant was packed, small children at every table. and not one of them was running around, screaming. they all sat on their chairs and ate their meals, not a whimper from any of them. don didn't even notice that there were kids there.
do you know, sprite? today's parent of young children have a lot to learn from the chinese. that restaurant was packed, small children at every table. and not one of them was running around, screaming. they all sat on their chairs and ate their meals, not a whimper from any of them. don didn't even notice that there were kids there.
fireflies already :(
aagghhh, sorry!
WTG SPRITE!!!
yeah, people could learn from that. We never allowed our children to pester other diners.
but even the babes in arms didn't cry. it was amazing. i know we had to be very strict with our kids at restaurants. but parents today just let the kids run wild.
that really pisses me off. There is no reason children should be a problem for other people. We could take our kids everywhere from a very young age and they were universally loved. Doesn't take great parenting skills, just a bit of common sense.
and firmness sprite. today parent are so scared of being accused of abuse, that they forget to parent along the way. kids need boundaries, lovingly AND firmly applied.
amen to that. Boundaries are what makes a child feel safe.
telling your child 'No' is not abuse. It is quite the opposite.
yes but the 'authorities' see a parent also physically restraining their kid...and hey presto!! they are accused of abuse. it's just so wrong.
Very. We could do most with our voices and eyes, but yeah, sometimes you have to hold them at a shoulder or arm, or pick them up and set them back onto their chair. No abuse involved indeed.
one of my kids threatened to ring the child abuse people and report me for 'abusing' him, i had smacked his heinie with the flat of my hand, once only. i gritted my teeth and told him he would have to make it to the phone first.
lololllll! Aren't they precious...
then i rang the police myself. they listened to what this particular child was like and then said...madam, in your case, it is justifiable discipline.'
very good. But I can understand why 'they' draw the line at any physical discipline. It is hard to judge the severity. One flathanded smack on the heinie never hurt a child, but it is much easier to uphold the no-physical-discipline notion than to differentiate.
strange that i never heard another word from any of my kids when i disciplined them.
*giggles* Poor babies, so afraid of their evil mother...
my mother always said a man should never physically punish a child as he doesn't know how to hold back...i often think of that, and think, yeah...and what about the narcissistic mother...
Tim had such temper tantrums as a little boy. Literally spitting mad, and endlessly. So we had to put him under a cold shower for a few seconds, 3 times in his whole life. He still remembers and claims it was child abuse. I still think it was saving him from something worse.
oh man, how about the splinter in their eye etc... She was something, that mother of yours :(
aww poor tim, he had to have a cold shower...for goodness sake!! my eldest has claimed one of the reasons he doesn't want to talk to me, is because i FORCED him to attend sunday school. and my response...yeah, and i FORCED you to go to regular school, take a shower daily, wear appropriate clothing, eat the food i provided...the list is endless of all the things i FORCED him to do.
your eldest should get over himself. He doesn't realise how blessed he was with a mother who cared enough to FORCE him to do what would benefit him.
I have friends with a very troubled son (only child). And I seem to be the only one who realises their lack of boundaries is to blame. Sometimes they are too tired to care, sometimes they don't want to disappoint him... and they just cannot see that is hurting the child.
oh, dear. and of course if you point out their lack of parenting skill, you become enemy number one, right?
mwah, she and I go wayyyy back... have been friends since we were 6. So I do have some credit. But she says herself, after the kid has pushed and pushed for 20 times, she just gives in and cannot spare the energy to hold out for longer. I told her that only means that he learns to push for 21 times in future.
We are raising our grand-daughter now. She is 3. My how some things have changed. Others, not so much. We can take her anywhere, and do. She knows how to act in public.
awesome, Marjetta. How come you are raising your grandchild, if it is ok to ask?
One of my children threatened to call the police, I picked up the phone and said "Here is let me dial it for you." She shut up after that.
We are raising her, because her mother can't/won't. She is too busy "finding herself" and going out with her friends.
hehehe good for you. Our son once complained to his teacher, who listened to the whole story and then told our son he was lucky to have parents who were willing to tell him NO.
She does come and babysit when I am working.
oh my. How very sad, Marjetta. Not easy on you. But at least you get all the joy from raising the child along with the work.
I'd say the time to go 'find yourself' has passed once you have a child. Painful, for the child too :( But a true blessing she has such great grandparents.
We have had her since the day she was born. She is wonderful. I do know why younger people have children though.
oh I bet! I am only 48 and I already have noticed I don't have the energy I used to have when my children were very small.
Thank you Sprite. We love her very much. We are fighting with her mother now, because she will tell us/her one thing and do another. Like she is coming to see her and then never show up. Very frustrating.
makes me so sad, to see/hear about parents that selfish. When in all respects their child is only an afterthought. But grandparents as you make all the difference for a child. Your granddaughter feels loved and wanted, at least.
I keep wondering where I messed up with my daughter to make her feel the way she does. I just can't figure it out. My other daughter is a great mom.
seems your story, marjetta is very similar to our pugs story. except it is her nephew who is the ham in the sandwich. such a pity, when biological parents, just cannot see the harm they are doing.
it is normal to wonder how we are to blame as parents, I think. But in the end we can only offer, and it is up to them what they take. And what they do with it. Once they are grown, they are out of our hands and whatever they do and don't is their responsibility
so true, rose. Am so glad that pug's nephew has a wonderful dad and great-aunt.
I sometimes think our whole society is to blame. It seems young people expect everything to be easy, fun and comfortable. Well, wake up notice: parenting is only 1 out of those 3. And not even all the time.
My daughter has told me that she is grown and she can make her own decisions. I told her this week, that she can do that BUT she can NOT lie to that little girl who loves her so much anymore. She got pretty mad at me.
well, bully her. You are so right, Marjetta. And of course she gets mad... she knows you are right.
I think that is true Sprite, she wants only the good parts of being a mom, but not the resposibility that goes with it.
Maybe one day she will grow up. I can only hope.
will remember her and your granddaughter in my thoughts and prayers, if that is ok, Marjetta.
Thank you.
Sorry I killed your conversation. Thank you for letting me vent.
you didn't kill it at all, you participated. And we are glad you do.
your welcome, marjetta. we all need to do it ...
my love and I have always said, parenting our children is the most important job in our lives, and yes, it IS a job. On call 24/7 and with the most precious thing in the balance all the time. A rollercoaster ride, with amazing thrills and very scary low points. But worth it, all the way.
sidenote: I don't really mind myself trying to enter words like 'iffter'. But jeezzz, after I had fireworks... that IS kinda stupid.
Oh you are right it is so worth it. My husband and I have 6 girls between us. This is the 7th. I would do it all again in a heart beat.
awesome, Marjetta :)
oh rose, did you see that 'we' won the consolation finals for soccer? 3rd place. My husband was rather happy, grin.
yes, sprite...i bet he was happy.
FW and I am off to bed. Thank you again for listening.
and so am I, to be honest. Things are so much quieter now in the neighbourhood. With my noise allergy, it isn't fun when they all go crazy for hours on end, lol.
hope you have sweet dreams, marjetta.
wtg Marjetta! Sleep well and I was happy you joined in. Hope to talk to you more often!
Thank you Rose, you too.

Oh great I take it..It is an expert, Sprite?

oh, no you wouldn't, mel...not the knee....anywhere else is easy-peasy.
mel, i am not belittling what you are going through, dear. i'm sorry if i sound condescending. of course what you are going through is painful.

But on the bright side I finally have use of that arm the muscle finally healed.
oh, my...i have to tell you. one of the elderly ladies came to church, wearing a kilt and cardigan, and the red lipstick. i took one look at her and had to suppress my giggles. later i was talking to our deacon's wife...and she said...when they went around to visit her, they were waiting for the corgis to crawl out from under the couch. she is a dead-ringer for QE the second.

Poor Robert Frost
The woods are lovely, dark and deep btu I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep.
Oh yikes! I confused the two, didn't I? My bad!
No. The Listeners is by W de la mere
Stopping by the woods on a snowy evening. The last line is Miles to go before I sleep.
Someone once said to me that I should memorise as much poetry as I could then when old age catches up with you and people think you aren't worth talking to then you can recite all the poems in your head. Sad thought but worth thinking about.
I have fireworks by the way so I am just hanging around to chat
Molly, have you got a favourite poem?
soodle, we managed to fit that quart into a pint pot. The bedroom looks a totally different room now. Tomorrow, we hit the sitting room

stidmama, did you finish the grid already? I assume you did
Need to go to bed so I'm going to get FWs w/out audience.
After saving my word for 11 hours, I finally have fireworks!
Clues are obviously not needed so I'm off to bed.Goodnight
