I just home from aerosmith - JOHNNY DEPP WAS THERE!!!!
senna
oops, sorry
I'm juuuuust a little excited
Wooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!
hey torgone! It was a great show - but I have to admit, when Johnny came out to play an encore with the band, I LOST my sh*t
am smitten, Trifioso!
How do I put this delicately? The Bad Boys from Boston are AMAZING to listen to....but to look at? Not so much. Johnny Depp on the other hand? he is BEAUTIFUL
sigh..
its really so unfair. Kadresa, my sister, lives and breathes johnny depp....but I got to see him...I feel sorta bad
Not too bad, though ..
I am still a woman, tor :)
finished
hi everyone - wow, well done ru
wtg, ruru.. am leaving some for tomorrow, g'nite all
thanks
ruru rocks
ruru rocks
jbp rocks.. like big time

almost an hour since ru spoke - helloooooo
is there anyone around?
hi flosey just logged on
hi mayneman, good to see you
I'm down to my last word and cannot get it, un6/30, any clues?
had to change my name had trouble logging on as mg
messy, flosey
what about messy
the grid has been acting up lately, "temper tantrums" as Dr. God refers to them - pages and pages of red boxes
ah, that's it, thanks MM, and that's FW
how are you MM, and Lyn?
we're both well. i'm painting most days and lynn is busy in the bookstore, 4 days a week
sounds good, what type of painting?
watercolor, mostly landscape
so much beauty on Mayne, plenty to choose from - and that beautiful park/garden Bob took us through
i volunteer there every monday morning. you've got some fantastic painter on your island.
I've anways been attracted to lighthouses - but I am not a painter in any sense of the word - but yes, there are many good painters
you mean you come to SSI to volunteer?
no at dinner bay on mayne
ah, nice
I've only been on Mayne once, when a group came over to play bridge but also to tour the island - that was a long time ago, when Joan was with us
in the old days we did most of our shopping at ssi. but since the ferry schedule changes we've been going to the big island.
I don't get over to Vanc. Is. much anymore either - occasionally to Vancouver to visit our girls
but that would have been when Joan was with us - two reasons for coming over?
we can get almost everything we need on our tiny island, its even better for you.
greetings friends
really, that's great - I expect all the islands will pick up a bit once the ferries shorten their routes and raise fares
love your new icon Flosey
hi there pugs
thanks, thought would cheer us up
Hello Flosey, how are you
{{hugs}} miz pugs. flosey, love your icon, hun.
always something happy about sunflowers
good thanks pugs but have finished the grid and so to bed - have a med. appt tomorrow morning, routine
Hugs and Love Rose--ty for the letter, wasent able to write back but I will
hi Rose
congrats to you and Rose and take care Flosey
for sure, pugs, thanks and goodnight to all
hope you have sweet dreams, flosey
regards to Lynn please, Maineman
nite flosey
good night and hugs
Hi Mayneman, nice to meet you
good day all and take care--hugs Rose
catch you later, pugs. hope your day is good. are you heading back to bed now?
good morning, everyone...anyone
dawg! 'sup
yo! Bo! just us, I guess. quiet in the chatroom.
too early, or too much eatin' - that covers both for me...
too early for sure. whatcha been up to?
nothing - retired 3 months ago and trying to adjust to all the free time :)
congrats on the retirement!
thanx - wasn't my first choice, but it's working out ok - how're you?
hard to put an old work horse out to pasture, huh. me, same ol' stuff. work, babble, work, sleep, babble...
routine - nothing wrong with that. you're in Cali?
In Montana. having a heat wave so add whining to that list. lol
how are you keeping yourself entertained?
in process of closing business down and buying a home - moving to be nearer my daughter and her family. Have a nephew in Bozeman - that is one beautiful area
where does your daughter live? Bozeman is lovely, but expensive. it's grown so much since I lived there back in 93.
daughter is 150 miles north of me in South Carolina
Morning, everyone! Dawg...we're sure up early here in the West.
Hi, bo...nice to meet you.
not too far of a move then for you. I'm sure she'll be happy you are closer to her.
hi Mimi
Hi MImi!
oh yes - says she needs to keep an eye on me lol
I starting taking early retirement last year but still work to supplement. I work at home, though, and it's very nice. I am writing a book and there are so many things I'm interested in that there aren't enough hours in the day for me. I'm absolutely LOVING this time of my life.
There is something to be said for knowing who you are and being comfortable and happy with that.
never been to Ariz - but it's on my bucket list
AZ is hotter than necessary this time of year, but winters are nice if you get tired of shoveling snow
Just don't come in the summer...it's like living in a sauna. I'm trying to buy a house up in the mountains in the Payson area...they have change of seasons there and snow in the winter....love it.
need to shovel snow occurs about once every ten years in SC
Mimi, that's wonderful to be writing a book. and you're so right about being comfortable and happy with being who you are.
Yes, dawg, we only have two seasons in Phoenix...heaven and hell. At least there's more heaven time than hell time.
good morning everyone:)
((crossy))
((mimi))
Crossy...I found the mountain house I want but don't know if I'll be able to qualify...sigh. Will give it my best effort...this place is really perfect. The other one wasn't quite what I wanted but this one seems to be....great views of the mountains and national forest.
I've not been to SC. there are a lot of southern states I haven't visited.
gm, crossy
SC is best from the seashore :)
I love the Carolinas...Virginia is also beautiful. I lived in the Atlanta area for 4 years in the early 70's when it was still growing...it's much too big now.
howdy lbd
Just watched Nights in Rodanthe again last week and love the footage shown in The Prince of Tides...breathtakingly beautiful.
I am sure you will find the perfect place, mimi. Just do not get in over your head. You want to be comfortable and at peace, not groaning under onerous payments at this stage of your life:)
Charleston is a beautiful city and growing nicely - Atlanta is huge, way too much for my taste
any clues for the dy6?
don't have it dawg
Atlanta is totally too big...a friend still lives there and says the traffic is horrible. When I lived there it was still quaint. I sang in the original Underground Atlanta and it was so much fun.
I've been through the Atlanta airport...yeah way too big! not as bad as Minneapolis' airport but still too big.
I hear you there, crossy. I have my budget worked out and won't overextend. This house isn't really that expensive, I just have "issues."
dy 6/27 lbd
where do you want to move to, mimi?
need a clue for that, dy6, crossy
tough to clue. it is a medical term. have to think on it
just waking up as well. brain is not firing on all cylinders:)
have the first 4 letters, monkeying the other three.
dy+ german for no
Just an hour northeast of Phoenix on the Mogollon Rim in Payson, dawg. Are you familiar with the area? It's just a bit south of Sedona.
Good morning all
Got cranky in here last night :)
howdy sukee
did it?
glad i missed it
yes, I know the area, Mimi. used to live in Safford...talk about HELL!
Just me :)
hi sukee
I helped someone with a clue and he had the previous word but when I asked for his help I was ignored. Silly thing to get upset about actually.
we all have our days:)
Payson is big enough to have amenities but still have the small town feel. No more awful heat in the summer and I actually like the idea of snow in the winter...and autumn..finally a real autumn....
the dy/4 plus not out but ??
Hi, sukee! Sorry you had that happen...it does happen, though, to all of us on occasion.
it is nice that you can go a short distance and get out of that opressive heat
I swear I typed that in, Ty droman
Ty droman, got that :)
It's close enough that I can come back and see friends and family and have access to Phoenix but not so close that I'll be called on to babysit!
german one was better....didn't see it
Payson is a lovely area. I have a friend who has a place in showlo.
sounds like an ideal locale, mimi
Sukee, that happens a lot. I figure no one has the word I'm looking for or are buried in the grid.
tadone!!! finito!! my7 was my last word! tough little grid.
I know :)
wtg lbd
yaa for lbd!
(((sukee)))
Usually it doesn't bother me, like I said, I was cranky :)
The entire Rim area is gorgeous....except when the wildfires hit. But every place has its issues. This house in particular would be ideal, crossy, especially for inspiring my writing. And it has a loft that my cats would love plus I could fix it up for when the grandkids come to visit. Beautiful BIG screened in sunrooms--two of them--as well. I can send you the link if you'd like to see it, crossy.
could I get a clue for ye6, please?
ty for my 7 lbd
Hooray for dawg!!
yeah, I hear ya, sukee. I also blame the weather, cuz it surely isn't ME. *wink wink*
I would love to see it, mimi
pt the Chinese money, Marc
lol :)
Will send the link in a minute, crossy. Let me know what you think.
ty for ye6, lbd
yw
going to check my emails, brb
Thanks but it is Japenese money. Chinese money is the yuan
Just sent the link, crossy.
Oh, crossy...they're having our 45th reunion in the Cincinnati area on Oct. 4 so I'm thinking I could just come visit you either before or after for a couple of days...does that work for you?
oops, sorry, Marc

Hi Annie
hi Wolvie, sukee
Anyone have stats for the bottom R on the 5th column?

and the qu6 ty
The re5/12 stats
ty marc- homer moment for me lol
and dos
oh lol- okay
my7, please?
not seeing the qu5
bbl
my7 is a dutch word for sir or mister
... Carnabee street dress maker Mary
Fabulous clue, dos!
Speaking of qu words, I think Mimi should be in the PB : P
... I wonder how many young pups will get it though
The mini skirt :)
my7 starts out like the bird minus the last vowel + misspell current position -wish you were ****- or ****'s Johnny
What did I do, Molly???
Didn't get the my7 clue sorry need another one
thanks, dawg
Good one lbd, got it :)
You said Atlanta was not as qu6 as it used to be : D
good grief- ty lbd.
Clueless about the Canabee street stuff. Have the word, it's odd
Oh, my...yes I did!! My bad.
I didn't even notice but I had the word already
I am really stuck on the my7 can't seem to figure it out?
... Mary qu5 invented the mini skirt
Mary Qu5 was a famous designer a long long time ago, Molly
I also did something bad yesterday....I don't have much of a sweet tooth but when it does call, I must obey. I ordered one slice of chocolate caramel cheesecake....just too good. I can only eat a bite a couple of times a day, though...but they are good bites!
I'm with you, Marc...just can't get that one either.
Okay, going to make breakfast. 26 left to find
... two syllables ... the bird less a letter ... then an anagram of "this location"
marc- it sounds like someone saying mine here. lol only double the vowel in the h word and use a y and no e in the first :D
wow is that a weird word thanks Wolvie finally got it. Have to leave have a great day one and all
ttfn marc and yes that was one of the weirder words i have seen
Got it...great cluing, Wolvie! Yes...weird.
i am off as well- dog walk to take care of- 20 left here.
Bye, Marc!
And bye, Wolvie! Have a good one.
No wonder I was clueless. I thought the dressmaker clue was for the my7. It came right after a comment about that word.
That's OK, Molly....here..have a bite of cheesecake.
Cheesecake for breakfast? Thank God someone here knows how to eat right. : D
Talk about eating right, Im having a donut with my coffee
LOL...no, I'm not having the cheesecake for breakfast but not a bad idea....
Ah, coffee and a doughnut
I have to give in once in a while
As the famous saying goes, life is uncertain...eat dessert first.
yes, totally agree
I'm so trying to lose weight, but I've found that every so often if I'm craving something, I must have just a little of it.
Mimi, don't knock yourself out. If you really have thyroid issues, you can diet until you are near starved to death and the weight will not come off.
I have a beautiful site for you guys to go to. Google "Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) Monastery in Bhutan in the Himalayas....this is an amazing place. I can't figure out how they got the building materials up the cliff.
Yes, I know, Molly...very frustrating. Will soon be trying to get that fixed. My cardiologist is also convinced this is hormonal in more ways than just thyroid.
Gotta run...let me know what you think of the monastery...I'm still awestruck by it. Later and hugs.
Why is the my 7 a word and Herr, German word for the same thing, not
hi bichon, Enable speaks, so it is
Ad, the portuguese word for the same thing, is?
... I'll guess the my7 is like mister while Herr can only be used as a part of a name ...
do you want a clue, bichon
I think we shoud rise up against Enable, all Babbleonians unite!
hear, hear!
Not really dose
LOL Annie
... well I recall hearing my7 used on its own as a word ... but never the German word on its own ... think of "hey mister" but never "herr"
Let me consult with Mr. Bich. He's here and is German
... well I was just guessing
Mr. Bich has spoken: You would say Mein Herr
... yeah true ...
... though to do that you'd be speaking German ... ... perhaps with New York having been Dutch ... somebody counts my7 as English because a portion of the population of New York used it 300 years ago
... who knows
any help with the dy6? it's my last word and I can't find it...tia
last clue I saw was, dy and no in German
... someone previously clued it as dy4 plus not out
dy4 + not out
must go start the laundry and get moving before the heat sets in. hagd/e everyone!

and now it is time for Crossy's quote of the day!! (I have this one Printed out and taped to the shelf on my desk so I can see it every day) ...
“Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to that commitment by removing impossible obstacles. Dream the impossible dream and the world will not grind you under, it will lift you up. This is the trick. This is what all these teachers and philosophers who really counted, who really touched the alchemical gold, this is what they understood. This is the shamanic dance in the waterfall. This is how magic is done. By hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering its a feather bed.â€- Terence McKenna
Good one, Crossy, thanks for posting
:)
OH NO. Another Malaysian Jet down!
Possibly shot down.
do you have a link for info on this?
On the news now. Down in the Ukraine.
mm, i do not do cable tv. will have to try and find it on an internet news feed..brb

ty Molly anyway!
and now it is time for crossy's tidbit of the day!!!
The Eisenhower interstate system requires that one mile in every five must be straight in case of war or emergency, they could be used as airstrips.
Um, you should check Snopes on those tidbits.
Help! I have the two Y words, but they don't show on the stats. I keep reloading the page, but they still don't show. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!
no need. I have you to go over everything I post and correct me if i have erred:)
later all off for a hike.. poink!
Can only suggest logging out and in again Kam
Thanks Chrissie, will try that.

oops!
Chrissie! Success at the eye hospital. Lovely specialist who listened to me. I have the start of cataracts in each eye and a problem with retinal blood circulation, hence the doughnut.
** FINITO ** last word HY 6/33, pt of HY 4/8
glad that you found someone who would listen to you jaxx
So glad you got taken seriously at last jaxx. Sorry you have the problems though
So am I. I felt I was a lone voice crying in the wilderness
Congrats teach :)
Phone, brb
The cataracts are a common problem and I am to go back on 29th July for a test to see how good the retinal circulation is. This explains why all the problems started after that cluster of migraines.
Will they treat the cataracts to stop it getting worse, or is it too soon to say
he said they were at the haze stage and they would deal with them as and when. he also said he was going to write to my optician to tell her to go on a course for diagnosing retinal scans so she wouldn't frighten anyone else. I bet she will love that!
lol, love it!
Tell him to have words with the previous consultant too
I am just glad that someone listened to me and didn't make me feel like a time waster. I will have to take my new specs back and get them changed as I cannot read with them on.
Hubby and colleague both had problems with varifocals in the last year. Both have used them for many years but 2 different opticians got the graduation wrong
Or whatever the technical term is :)
The eye clinic was in chaos with remodelling going on and so many people there. My appointment was 11.15 and 11.45 and I got there at 12 noon for the field of view and 1.00 to see the specialist. I left at 1.35 and the next clinic was just starting. he was supposed to be done by midday, yet he was so patient and polite.
That's nice, and so rare
There was a Down's syndrome child there in a wheel chair, all wide eyed. When she came out she was doing a royal wave and saying goodbye over and over. The man with her said she thought she was the Queen.
:D
and why not indeed?
Bet it brought a smile to a few faces
It did to mine
I am half way already, so I think I will go and feed my husband before any more. I have only just got rid of the fuzziness of three lots of eyedrops. bbl
Bye jaxx

I tried that too, of course. I guess it's a nick name.

had never heard of a meaning for the last 4 letters, but there is one.

Hi, Stidgemere. Quiet here
crossy is back:)
howdy, jaxx. Did you get my postcard yet?
Hi, crossy. Not yet.
"mm..Canada Post is snail-like as usual
The Royal Mail wasn't that fast either but it is quite a distance from here to there. I find that once you reach Devon everything slows down. It is something to do with the air.
here, everything slows down once it hit Pearson Airport in Toronto
Hi jaxx, yes quiet here in the great Northwest. Today is warm with a little haziness in the air. Not as warm as yesterday and I am most appreciative of this summer afternoon.
howdy, stidmere:)
Well then, you can't expect anything else than an extra slow snail mail
Hi crossy. Glad to see you are up and about at Babbleland.
Crossy has arrived to wake things up.
Yes, jaxx we shall be a rowdy bunch now.
What we need is Ruru or molly
Mind you, this grid is a little tricky
Rowdy is okay, raucous is another thing for sure we need the two you named for stirring the pot.
Both are very good at that
It looks as if rowdy will have to do.
The weather is joining in as we have thunderstorms at the moment.
Quiet again?
had to put a casserole in da oven
Something nice? We had fish and chips tonight
nothing fancy just a old style baked macaroni with three kinds of brich cheese and a romano bread crumb topping
brick
can I send my grandson over? He loves cheesy macaroni
added a bunch of herbs and spices to give it a bit of zing as well
Oh I love your not fancy crossy! We're going to have German potato salad with our little beef steaks for dinner. I'll fix a plain lettuce salad with fresh peas for the side dish.
sure, send the lad over. I have lots
Lovely. The simplest dishes are the best
mmm, steak...
So, when can we expect you for our dinner, jaxx and crossy?
Lots of fresh peas on sale here. We had the right weather earlier in the year apparently. I don't think they meant the gales.
I have gone back to simple cooking like grandma used to make one roasting pan dinners, casseroles, etc. baked desserts not pre-made stuff. it lasts longer and is a lot easier on the bank acct. Though I do have to spend more time in the kitchen
hey all -- hello Mother
Here good old fashioned snap peas are almost impossible to get. i think those that grow them, keep them:)
howdy, stidmama
Hi, stidmama
*not parting with snap peas from CSA*
The best peas I ever had were with fish and chips in the Somerset, Dover areas of England!
Hi stidmama. Glad to see you able to take time out.
all we get are those sad, thin things you use in chinese food
I live not far from Somerset in Devon
I did NOT do a good job in the interviews -- prepared for days and then didn't think to say some of the things I had been rehearsing!!!!
Then, you live in a part of the country some of our ancestors came from.
nerves
They both said they will tell people at the beginning of next week. I figure I will know for sure by Wednesday. I don't like waiting...
I never prep for an interview beyond tweaking the resume for that particular opening. I find off-the-cuff works better for me
Well, I am sure you said many things that were right on target. We all can think of what we wished we had said.
and you live in a country where a lot of my ancestors emigrated to.
yes, I think so jaxx - not easier with my in-laws coming in for an overnight visit in a couple hours.
We may be cousins, jaxx.
probably are... 7th cousins 8 times removed or something.
anyone from near chard or chardstock, jaxx? Mother has a pic of herself standing outside the ancestral cottage.
We may well be, although I originally came from Lancashire. You are more likely to be related to my husband as his family on his father's side all come from Devon.
My dear friend Debbie has relations from that part of the world. What is your maiden name. Have you tried following your family tree?
The family we descend from in Chardstock was named "strong"
That is a gypsy family
I was born in Watford. Less than 2 hour drive from your area
the family we descend from in Canterbury was named calkins. But those were about 400 years ago.
Of course every town in U.K is close to the other compared to what i am used to now:)
They were some of the first puritans in new england.
Oh, the name of the family in canterbury was catlett, not calkins... *sigh* so complicated. where were the calkins' family from, Mother
It is worth having a look . My husband's line goes back to the Tudors while mine is full of Irish rogues and Viking hardmen
brb phon
phone
wales, possibly
we are a very old family as well, stidmama. hard to keep all the thieves and cutthroats straight in my family tree:)
What's a Viking Hardmen?
a fella who missed out on his once-a-month:)
Soodle was surprised to learn that she had been chatting with a descendant of Orangemen in Belfast.
Ruru. We were just talking about you. Were your ears burning.
you were? no..they're not burning.
must have been a while ago
No, Viking thugs. One was called Eynstein the filth, the fart. Clearly he was not well up on personal hygiene
oh.. sounds lovely
less than an hour.
I also have a bigamist in there as well. Nice folks my ancestors.
Watford is known for the motorway that runs by it.
Crossy, do you know if you were related to a Victorian Prime minister? You share his name and it is not that common either
LOL the phone was Mother...
We are the original clan. Anyone else who is not directly related just borrowed it:)
hey ruru -- (speaking of thieves and cutthroats) -- what is a good wine for after a disastrous job interview??
He might have been your clan chief
no, we are much older that that
he is only in the early 1800,s and was aide when victoria was priness.. among other things
I have some Huegenot/Presbyterian Dutch ancestors where at one point an uncle married his niece -- or his niece's daughter. Or something like that.
princess
Ruru (speaking of thieves and cutthroats)???
You have to start from you and work back
I think all families have something like that somewhere.
Hi, molly. We were talking about you as well saying we needed you and ru to liven things up.
interesting how families evolve, change -- and also what remains constant. My ancestors on both sides were literate back about 350 years (with one exception who was perhaps an escaped slave or indentured person)
The town your clan originally came from is in Derbyshire. When odl William the Conq had the Domesday book set up few of the Brits had surnames. So they adopted places where they lived, people that they were related to like Smithson, and their jobs like Butcher so William could be sure he had the right person when he ran off with their property
brb -- need excedrin.
I find it all fascinating and it gave me an interest in History I never had when young.
I agree, jaxx -- it can be a great "hook" for starting to study geography and history.
I have spent most of my day in the hospital's eye clinic. I ended up having three different lots of eyedrops and my eyes are now protesting. I am off to my bed as it is gone midnight here. Thanks for the chat. You all take care and I leave you in crossy's, molly's and ru's capable hands.
oh no -- feel better, jaxx! sweet dreams.
gn jaxx
actually stid.. a nice glass of port or sherry is nice to wind down after a disastrous meeting
slightly sweet, very soothing, and delicious
good lord I need 40 oz of soothing vodka, but alas, there is none in the house:(
Back again after the second phone call. Anyway, potato salad is made and I'm settling in to find some words.
*looking around for Pots*
Pots for the vodka? sherry? pudding?
lol
40 ounces, boy howdy
Pots to stir.. silly
Right, a pot to stir. I should good do some dinner prep so I shall leave the grid in your capable or culpable hands. Whichever fits.
I'm wondering where I got this reputation
We are the evil ones. : D
I guess
the new order you mean?
Yes, the new order that gets discussed on Facebook
oh .. wish I could see that
I'm so anti-facebook by and large
No, really you don't. It's just petty.
I do .. I do.. I really do
People are not quite so "pleasant" there.
I don't care.. I would love to know how silly they are being
Hi all :)
hi liz
no? okay I'll take that hi back then
Sorry Ru - got distracted by other stuff - just got back from England yesterday so sorting stuff!
oh.. long trip I bet
Away for 5 weeks! Also went to Amsterdam and met Sprite - she's such a lovely person.
Was reading about the Malaysian Airliner that was shot down - a day earlier and it could've been us. Singapore Airlines continued to use that route.
yikes. I heard about it earlier haven't read about it on line yet
Terrible thing! Malaysia not having a good time this year. Mainly Dutch on that flight.
keeping CNN busy though
True!!!! Someone's got to keep the news going before they invent the next story.
I'm guessing that is contested airspace in all the disruptions to the area now?
Not contested.. just not safe due to the issues on land
Airlines advised to change routes earlier in the year. Most did - a number didn't. Too expensive.
ah..
that makes it kind of extra awful
that makes it kind of extra awful
I'm certainly breathing a sigh of relief to be home safely - selfish as that sounds.
Did you see that I met Sprite?
I am stuck with at the first 2 IN's - can i get a little hint or clue to get me going in the right direction? Please and thank you.
