good morning all
{{hugs}} my darling
*hugs rose* Hello dear friend.
are you goodly this morning?
good enough. Back hurts and some worries, but otherwise fine. And you? How is the cold? And the rest of you?
a little snuffly in the head, cough down to a minimum. * take the magnesium* lolol
wooot am so glad that darn cold is abating. Well done. Yeah, already taken, lol.
oh, just saw...some worries....?????fess up
oh, Tim was being an ass again yesterday and Rob just couldn't take it anymore. He broke down, cried like a baby. Broke my heart. And Tim at first all superior-like. I kinda changed that for him.
oh,dear, sprite. poor rob...and here* hands sprite a hefty smack* give this to tim.
*grin* if ever a boy deserved one...
and what was it about??
so I sat with Rob, held him and let him cry himself out. Then talked things over with him to show him where there IS progress. Then talked with Tim and brought him down a peg or two.
the usual. Tim not doing his chores and reacting like a big fat ass when called upon to fix things.
ummmm, is it time to hand tim his packed suitcase, and ask for the house keys on his way out?
that is about what Rob said yesterday. I am not quite ready to give up yet myself... it isn't what I want, kicking a child of ours out the door.
hun, sometimes it is the making of your child. the sudden impact of knowing he has to face the world on his own two feet can e a good thing. * you have permission to hover in the background*
yeah, that is true. well, one step at at time, for now. Just called Rob at work and he sounds a lot better. After the crying he slept, soundly through the night, so he made a lot of hours :)
i did that with my eldest. it did help that where he moved to was a little self-contained flat under the home of robyn, my friend.
do you have a similar place possible for tim?
one of the things that makes that hard is that I have no idea where to get the money from. Rooming is so damn expensive here.
what i was gonna ask really should be more private. will email you, dear
no, houses here are smaller than where you guys live, I think. We have 18 million people on our small piece of the world here, and most of them in the Randstad. I don't know anybody with a spare room even.
is ok, rose, thanks :) *hugs*
have you asked tim what his ideal living situation would be?
Tim's ideal situation would be a luxurious place with no obligations and everything catered for him, where he can do whatever he wants whenever he wants it.
is that your perception, or what tim says?....lolol
this would include only studying the things he finds interesting and only for as long as he does, and no tests or grades.
lol... ok that was mine, I confess
yeah, well, reality bites, tim.
exactly. And I plan to be a big part of reality for mr Tim.
Sprite, when you find that for Tim, can you let me know? I would really like it for me. *Tired of being an adult*
roflol Marjetta, sure. I guess we will all move in then :)
Hugs to you.
thanks, and *hugs* right back. Being a adult sucks sometimes.
roflol, marjetta....move over....big ass here is a coming too...
Children - got to love them ... because killing them it illegal. (Sometimes anyway) lol
marjetta, i was told by the local constabulary, in my case it was justifiable....
I have been told that a time or two, or three ...
so true. We teach them to talk in about a year and then spend the next 20 to make them shut the heck up.
LOL, that is particularly funny since we are trying to get the 3 year old to say things better. lol
*giggles* Know what you are setting yourself up for...
marjetta....too funny...
Can I claim old age and say that I forgot?!? Please?????
works for me!
nope....you're not old enough....
ROFLOL....take your pick.....unless you're irish....
I am a member of AARP, that is not old enough?
awwww please rose? Even if we lack the years, we sure have the mileage... please? "Huh... who the heck are you and why are you in my house?"
I deal with "children" all day as a college instructor too, that does affect your "working" age at the end of the day. lol
oh yes it does, lol
lolol....sprite...you know who i am....and i am in your house to sort out a certain teen boy...hmmmm...deja vu an6?
college freshmen - who ever told them they were grown LIED!
:D you, I'd still recognise when I am 100 years old. It is Tim who seems a stranger all of a sudden :D
ah ha! marjetta just gave her/him self away...you are an american....
oh dear, indeed, Marjetta. As soona as they are 21, they think that means they are mature. Soooooo far from the truth.
I am convinced that teenagers allow aliens to inhabit their bodies.
lolol, marjetta....so agree
sort of actually the truth. Those hormones turn them in totally different people. Pod people!
Yes I am american, and a female.
I am woman hear me rawr.
oh, no!! sprite in the raw. someone hand me dark glasses.....lololol
lolol
hmpffff
was that one hmpffff or two?
*insert crossed arms and tapping foot and BIG frown*
My children love to tell me they would rather me yell at them, because they know when I finally get mad enough to be quite, they are in real trouble. lol
lollll Marjetta! Very good.
and i thought it was her cleavage....
Don't have much of that. lol
sprite's ig frown i mean
trust me, in case of my cleavage you don't have to wonder if they are two, lol.
ugh...* big *
lol sprite, wish I did.
oh, my...laughing so hard i think i need a nebuliser....
yeah well, they both travel south nowadays, so be careful what you wish for :D
can you tuck them into your knickers yet, sprite? if not. you are doing okay?
Mine are just big enough and droopy enough to cause heat rash in the summer. What a pain. :D
marjetta...so to speak...
As that cartoon of that old lady that says: "When I got up this morning, I thought I was having a heart attack, I had such a sudden pain in my chest. But I was only standing on my nipple."
lolol, sprite. yeah!!
roflol, good one Sprite
You ladies are great for my mental health! (I need all the help I can get.)
don't we all, grin. Babble keeps us sane. Or at least what can pass for sane if you don't look too closely.
hey!! who you calling sane?
I am nuts enough to get away with that, rose :P
i work so hard...all day...to present myself as insane...and here you are...calling me sane...hmpff
i work so hard...all day...to present myself as insane...and here you are...calling me sane...hmpff
*hiccup*
the truth is hard, rose, cannot be helped, lol
We are supposed to be sane??
darn!! you mean to tell me my cover is blown??
dear God I hope not
all the way, rose!
new word for the babble dictionary: arterust - clodded veins
I have one for the dictionary too: obliviot - an oblivious idiot.
I LOVE IT!!! marjetta
oh I love it! Adding it right away.
sprite...arterust...someone with a high haemoglobin
You can thank Randy Cassingham. He writes a newsletter called "This is True" That is what he calls ignorant people.
nice, rose! Adding that def too
there. And added Randy Cassingham's name too, to keep it fair.
Quite a good newsletter. All true stories and his commentary.
He will be pleased. :)
:)
it is growing into a very nice list of crazy words
I love the definitions. They make me giggle.
good, then they serve their purpose :)
sprite rocks!!!
Yes she does!
oh, not my work. The babble dictionary is made by all of us. I only collect.
Demop - what happens to the floor when the kids run through.
Remop - what you do after the kids run through
nice one too, adding it
sprite, from the news broadcasts here...the first of the bodies from the MH17 crash have arrived there.
Renit - what happens when you drop a stitch while knitting.
yeah, here they arrived yesterday. Day of national mourning was yesterday.
*shaking head* where will this end?? it is too sad.
My heart goes to all those families.
marjetta, it appears that most of the passengers were from the netherlands.
war, in any form, is such a waste of good lives, and anything good, in fact
I know, just so sad.
putin has a lot to answer to.
if the ruskies want to send an assassin to kill me...let my words be still read here. the russians are villains...full stop.
it is horrible. And this act gets a load of attention now, but it is not the only horrible act of violence in the world. People are strange beings.
I am from a military family. My ex served in the first Gulf war. My husband now has served in Iraq. My son-in-law has served in Iraq and Afghanistan 5 times. I can not tell you how tired I am of war.
russians are just like americans and aussies and dutchies and whatnot. They are people. It is politicians who call the shots.
oh Marjetta :( How very very hard on your family. Yes, tired of war... wish humanity was too.
To try and start another so senselessly infuriates me to no end. Putin just aggravates the hell out of me right now.
You are right, it is the politicians.
I just cannot understand why people want to have war. How can you justify to yourself that you started such devastating loss of lives, making so many people hurting so badly?
Me either Sprite. I understand why men and women serve in the military. But I can't for the life of me understand war.
oh yes, I can understand people serving in the military. And I know that most of them want nothing as much as peace. To protect what makes us human and to create peace, is why most military people want to serve.
There is a great quote from the program M.A.S.H. about the Korean war the US fought in. "War is war and hell is hell. Of the two ware is worse, at least innocent children do not go to hell."
ugly english, but you get my drift
and around we go...i said sooo long ago...let women rule the world....there would be no more killing. women are the only on4 who understand to consequence of killing.
oh rose... we wouldn't have war then... but imagine all the countries that wouldn't talk with eachother... and refuse to do business with eachother... and gossip about eachother...
empty the guns of live am munition, load them with paint balls...
paint balls would be good. No more grenades, but serpentines...
Beautiful english Sprite. (And MUCH better than my Deutsche.)
lolol, sprite...at least our young people would survive.
oh wow, good quote from MASH, Marjetta. Yes, it is true.
Margaret thatcher sent the UK to war over the Falkland Island?
I have always loved that quote.
hi zooz! *hugs* Yeah, that is true. Can't remember who said it, but it is true: Power corrupts. And absolute power corrupts absolutely.
g'day zooz. i just recently watched the film ' iron lady' very revealing.
Very true Sprite. Just look at our congress.
oh and rose, mothers who feel that their children are threathened in any way would be more than willing to go to war as well
*Hugs* to you all :-)..I must be one of the very few people who did not mind Mrs thatcher but she still made some bad choices. Then we all do..Had to come out of stealth mode to chip in my little bit, as not got long before I am off out :-)
Hope you are all well :-)
sprite, i think that quote is from ' animal farm'
am fine, zooz, how about you?
George Orwell?
"Absolute power corrupts absolutely" arose as part of a quotation by the expansively named and impressively hirsute John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton, first Baron Acton (1834–1902). The historian and moralist, who was otherwise known simply as Lord Acton, expressed this opinion in a letter to Bishop Mandell Creighton in 1887: "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men."
All is well this ends thanks, Spritey, Just helping dad dismantle one of his old sheds that is rotting and putting up a new one. It will take a while to take out all the kerzillions of tools he has stored in it..lol
would they, sprite? to keep one's young unhurt...
lolol zooz! Good project for father and son to work on.
And a true saying it is too, Sprite.
they would, rose. Most mothers turn very beastly when their offspring is threathened, alas.
but then I truly believe that we are people first, man or woman second.
hmmm, thinking back...yep, you are right...would have cheerfully have committed murder to keep my kids safe.
To be honest I think almost all parents would go defensive if their siblings are at risk of ridicule or threatened in any way.
I know that I would walk through hell for any one of my kids, but I am not sure that I could actually kill another person.
I am usually so reasonable. But when Caya was in the hospital, I was this overprotective mamma lion who wouldn't even let the dad come near, checking each and everything that was done to her child. Am still embarrassed to remember it.
I could hurt them really bad though.
oh I could. Imagine someone raping your daughter, for instance. Death would be too good for him.
That is just instinct, Sprite, Just the way we are :-)
marjetta...the worst years of my life were when myself and my ex were still together...i continually checked that there were no sharp knives available for me to grasp.
I have got to go.Shame as this convo is getting interesting. ((Rose)) ((Sprite)) ((Marjetta)) Take care all.
true, zooz. We like to think we are not animals. But we are. All we can hope for is being human as well.
I guess I am more vindictive. I wouldn't kill them, I would cut it off with a dull rusty knife and then make sure he lived with that fact.
GETTING interesting??? Tsk. Zooz! Our convo's are always interesting. *hugs* and have a grand day.
I like your way of thinking, Marjetta :)
Have a great day Zooz.
Teehee you knew what I meant *poof*
i deliberately would put all used knives into the sink, and slide a chopping board over the opening...so i could not see it/them.
*holds rose close* You did it, rose. You survived, got away, kept your children alive through it all and made something of your life. You are a winner and a hero.
*smiles* thanx my darling
That is how I knew I had to leave my first husband Rose. I was seriously contemplating ways to kill him. I didn't like the person I had become.
tis the truth
{{hugs}} marjetta
well done you too, Marjetta. Another hero there.
No hero, a survivor.
I've had to live with what you all are talking about...believe me, it doesn't lessen with time. He will be 79 soon.....I still wonder why I haven't lost my mind.....well, I do know...God saw me through it.
peach! *hugs* God, yes, and your own power and courage.
If he had been in the same town.....I would be sitting in prison somewhere.
Marjetta, being a survivor of stuff like that means you are a hero. Trust me. It takes so much courage to do that.
such self restraint, peach! Well done. Imagine being in prison and somehow still giving him parts of your life that way.
No the courage comes when you believe you are strong enough to give your resolve to someone else that needs it.
in my book, you are all heroes.
peach, my dearest....hugs and kisses to you, dear
Thank you.
marjetta...you and i...xoxox
Thank you, Rose.
Thank you, Rose.
Yes Rose ... xoxoxo
fireflies
Congrats, Sprite.
Well I am off to get some sleep before the 3 year old gets up. Oh how I hope she sleeps in.
and these males go blithely about their everyday lives, not knowing how close they came to death...it really makes you laugh.
Congrats Sprite!
WTG SPRITE!!!
It does now Rose. I also am thankful. I am the person I am today because of my past, and I am pretty happy with me.
Dearest peeps, I must do a few things before getting ready for bed.....Blessings for each of you.
You too Peach.
*hugs peach* Sleep well and dream even better.
xoxox peach, hope you re4 well, hun.
yeah rose... they don't realise how much they owe you.
I like that, Marjetta.
lolol, sprite, maybe he does now...it has been a journey and a half, since he died.
*giggles* He is now sitting in the naughty chair and has to repeat all day long: Thank you, rose, for not killing me... thank you rose, for being so awesome while I was such a total rotten jerk...
Night guys. Thank you for the laughs. Have a great day!
you too, Marjetta! *hugs*
*hugs* Sprite (giggle)
*hugs* Rose
poof
Rose, I have to go as well. A big *hug* from me. Get fully well soon, darling, and give yourself time to build up strength again. And to all, a blessed day and a peaceful night.
marjetta....i hope your day is kind to you, dear..
xoxox, sprite.
good morning everyone:)
and g'day crossy. here for a short ti4 only. how are you, mate?
doing fine rose and you?
yeah, mate. all good here. just getting over a cold.
Good day to all.
howdy scrabby
scrabs??? nice to see you, hun.
I was on vacation for several days so wasn't here.
scrabs...where did you go?
Adirondack Mountains--my favorite destination. Hiking and kayaking.
Liz and family are going to Lake Placid this Friday
oh, nice, scrabs. hope you have returned refreshed..
and hellooo annie
I will be there in 3 wks, Annie, well, in Keene Valley which is 20 minutes southeast. But we always kayak in Lake Placid.
Hiii, rose, hope you are feeling well
beautiful day for a hike here:) sunny and 12c. not exactly July weather, but I enjoy it just the same.
annie, tail end of a cold...otherwise AOK, hun
I love the Adirondacks
Annie, it is a special place.
Adirondacks...has been the answer to many crossword puzzles..methinks i must visit some day.
Rose--I would meet you there. But the park is enormous.
scrabs, will let you know in advance...i am su4 we could arrange a rendez-vous....
Great.
I need to visit Crossy--3 hrs away. Bruce Trail. Georgian Bay. Many lakes.
I have a part of the trail all picked out for you, scrabby
Maybe a fall visit, if my mother permits it.
I would need you for two days, however. I have a 6k and a 3 k portion in mind to give you a flavour and a sense of the Bruce
since the entire thing is a tad over 850k in length, it is the best I can do:).. Unless you want to do a thru-hike:)
Haha, I wish, Crossy.
morning all :-)
howdy, wolvie
Hi Wolvie
Good morning
Got stuck on Facebook for too long this morning
hello everybody {{crossy}}
howdy, sukee
stat for an e from the second column please??
((ruby))
When I was a kid, we used to go to Trout Lake every summer which is near to Lake George. I loved the Adirondacks!
en6/21 and pl
no no, nt plural, just an added cons
ty ruby :-)
okay :-)
just picked more figs -- they are ripe, too large and have no taste, I guess from too much rain and not enough hot weather
:(
I must get ready for work. Bye, kids. Enjoy the day.
bummer. we had that happen here the last 3 years. sigh
annaoy
bye Scrabs- hagd :-)
tc scrabby
gm, everyone! bye scrabs, hagd
Just got news a favorite aunt died yesterday. Hadn't seen her in years though. She was the last of my father's family.
usually, figs form twice a year but fall off most years. This is the first time there are so many
bye scrabs
I am sorry for your loss, sukee
hello sukee m ibd and wolvie
sorry to hear that, sukee. my t's and p's to you and your family
g'day wolvie, ruby, sukee and grant
ohhh, and ibd, hello hun.
We lived with her for a while when we first moved to Canada. I feel for her husband, they were practically joined at the hip their entire married lives.
that is sad, sukee, I have only 2 aunts left (out of many) and they are just "uncles' wives"m not blood)
hi ruby, rose, wolvie, crossy, anyone else I may have missed.
'morning, guys
and {{annie}}
hey dawg and grant :-)
awww sukee. hugs and kisses, hun
hi grant
and annie and rose lol sukee- everyone !! :-)
sorry for your loss Sukee
rosie, you are here very late, quell surprise!
Thanks for all the good wishes. I have very good memories of her.
in a sn4 with himself...he has come down with a 'migraine' from a sinus infection...it seems to only happen when i am in need of nursing...grrrr
ruby, i am being obstinate....
give him an aspirin, put a washcloth in the microwave and get some sleep
lolol, ruby....you are my kinda gal.
men are such babies (not crossy, though), he's a mensch!
*giggle* it's after 9:30pm here...i think i will fade away....xoxox to you all.
lol
((ruby)))'
have a good rest rose
howdy lbd
ttfn rose
the Tour is almost over and Nibali has it sewn up. The question is whether my "chouchou" Valverde can hold onto 2nd place
Such excitement.....lol
lol, ruby is still stalking spandex sheathed tushies:)
Good morning babblers - and hi ruby
howdy jbv
{{JBV}}
I haven't been watching the Tour but did you know Nibali is Sicilian - is your neighborhood restaurant owner a big fan?
lol JBV- good morning
ya think? lol
yes and I bring him figs from the garden
Italy needs some good news right now
hi crossy, wolvie
I don't share his enthusiasm for Nibali. He is making it look too easy' I wouldnd't be surprised if he fails a drug test
I can see ruby standing on a part of the course, holding out a cup of water and a fig....
(or wearing fig leaves)
Everybody needs some good news!!!!!
very true, ruby
(about the good news)
I have 165 words and nbt but would be grateful for stat for any 8 and the 9. I don't even know where to look
ra 8 - sounds like what's leftover in a nuclear plant
au 9 = mineral named after the author of Jane Eyre : )
just kidding
wow- ty jbv- wouldnot have found those lol
lol, that was a great clue JBV :)
lol, lovely clue, jbv
But, she did not write Jane Eyre :)
oops, sorry, thanks sukee
too early here
ty for the au9
Still gave it to me though
but the clue worked lol
not seeing the ra8
lol me too
can't find the ra, though
compound word
I think
ra consonant plus wa 5/18
It's a "Jane" thing
lol jbv- it is a name for nuclear plant wa 5- by shortening it says. i had never heard of that term at all
I was looking for radiation-related words duh me
yes, it's interesting that the wrong clue gave the right answer for so many people : )
a unch of semi-literates.....
Is that a nice word for half wits Ruby? : D
now, now, ruby - it's been a long time since high school - when was the last time you read anything by Bronte or the Au lady?
I saw Jane and I went from there :)
now, instead of classics comics, I watch the movies
I read lots of Austen and I think I reread lots of Bronte works in my 30s and 40s
they run Jane Eyre periodically on French tv
Oh great, now I am imagining Shakespeare in Marvel Comic form.
I have Jane Eyre on my Kindle
well I agree sukee - that the books they made us read as teenagers are so much more interesting and involving when read as an adult
I am reading Emma on my Kindle
I reread Madame Bovary with a whole new perspective
I read Pride and Prejudice at least every 2 or 3 years :)
I think I got through all of jr. high and high school writing book reports using classics comics. I was too lazy to read then.
Yes, Madame Bovary takes on a whole new meaning once you reach "a certain age"
lol
How about Anna Karenina?
|I read most of the Russian novels after my son was born, all that nursing time didn't go to wa5
yes, that too - I have a personal project - to catch up with Russian lit during the summer - read Anna Karenina, two years ago
fascinating
War and Peace last year
Brothers Karamazov this year
I went through a Russian phase. Anna Karenina, Crime and Punishment, etc.
they require a certain amount of time and patience
Jane Eyre was written by Charlotte Bronte not Jane Austen
Yes, we know.
I think you're right about re-visiting the novels we read when young. I re-read Magic Mountain with enormous pleasure
but thanks very much for au9
My problem is unbroken time. Too many husband-induced interruptions
Okay, time to decide on breakfast.
almost half way through the grid
Annie, the amusing thing is, several people knew that and got the clue anyway. It's like reading a sentence with some of the letters missing : D
uh oh, pb for me, I hope there's a TV with the Tour on it
I got the word from that clue also but, alas, I had to correct the statment. Can't help it. Sorry, JBV
no problem, Annie - we understand each other here : )
ruby, There is a 52 " flat screen TV in the PB
that's true, Molly, but I'm still chewisng on "a certain age".....
I'm afraid I'm on the wrong side of that age
JBV, :) and I still think of you when I see the word "etui"

crossy gets out the really, really big list of British authors.....
lol
howdy car!
and now it is time for crossy,s tidbit of the day!! Today i would like to share with you some rather rare pictures of famous artists and the work areas that inspire them! http://tinyurl.com/ok3ap9f
Loved EB White's space and Georgia O'Keefe's and Hunter Thompsons. I am not surprised by the amount of creative people that work in what "normal" people would call clutter.
TY Crossy
Can I use that as an excuse, crossy?
phantom: armpit
My desk, for example, is a disaster area lol
use what as an excuse, jaxx?
Untidiness and being creative
and it is not "clutter" is is a creative idea fountain:)
seems not, jaxx in that from what I see, the more cluttered a work area, the more creative you should become:)
Then I am well on my way to being a creative genius!
see ray Bradbury's space?? The poor man barely had room for his typewriter:)
and we should all know by now what Einstein's desk looked like on the day of his passing:)
hi
I am sitting at my desk in my craft room. surrounded by huge bags of knitting yarn, cardmaking gear, Cds and with about 4 sq yards of floor space. Does that count as clutter?
it counts, just need to add a half-eaten sandwich and three cats
hi all
or one cat eating three half-eaten sandwiches...
how is everyone
howdy sue
not bad at all sue, and you?
howdy Southernocean
hello
doing great
excellent babble name btw:)
there is a half eaten pack of Pringles, all my late mother's stuff, all Nigel's mother's stuff, Nigel's fishing gear that he can't force into the cupboard in the other room and me
looks cloudy, good walking weather
that qualifies, jaxx:)
amazing hiking weather here as well sue. Was but 12c this morning when i awoke
the cat has put her hat on and gone to No 4 for peace and quiet.

Good, I hereby declare myself a creative genius.
I second that declaration!
our furbabies all have their serenity spot where they lay
car, see crossy's titbit of the day for an explanation.

lol, for me, at 76F the heat has already arrived:)
OMG...just heard on the news that there was a fatal motorcycle crash down the other end of our street this morning.
not good car:((
Me, too and we are well beyond that here 84 this morning
Did you know the victims?
No names released as of yet
Motorcyclists frighten me. They ignore road markings, weave between traffic, speed at silly speeds down our Devon lanes
Its a bad corner and they bike hit a pole.
Where my sister lives in very rural Wiltshire, youngsters have started running races in their cars and on their motorcycles. The hedge is 'dinged' all the way along her rural road. It is only a matter of time...

Could I get the stats for the 9, please?
au 9/60
Nothing comes from the G
can someone explain to me what au 9/60 means... I don't know how to read that
nope
lol... thanks
If you click on the ? next to the word, it gives the definition. Most of the time.
southern click on the question mark next to the word it will tell you
no..i don't mean the definition of the words... I don't know how to read the short hand you guys use when you are talking about clues..
au9/60 means a nine letter word that starts with au that is worth 60 points
au 9/60 is the amount of letters and how many pts it has total
ok.. thank you
If you click on Lickety's Babble Clues, below the grid, it gives a list of all the words and their length and point value
That is how someone would know there is an au9/60 before actually finding the word

Beginning to wonder why I bothered

One thing i find about writing a novel is that I am never, ever bored:)
thank goodness for that plus you have a goal to get to:)
If I am not activly writing I am editing and If I am not editing, then I am going over my concordance for the book and if I am not doing that, I am jotting down ideas in my idea book.
then there is the rest of life , of course:)
not all at once i hope?
actually, all three can happen at once:)
yes they can but just dont act on them at once lol
I take my hot ideas when and where they come. it is not unusual to get hit with one like a bolt of lightning from the blue. Then all regular writing must stop while I put the idea to paper before it is lost
for example, two parts in my story line did not flow as i wished and all work came to a grinding halt while I researched and wrote notes on submersible steam driven pumps from the turn of the last century. lol. that ate up an hour all on its own:)
agreed
tbh, I have not been bored since 1994, the year I was married... the Mrs. makes sure of that!
cross i need a spouse like that i think?
One who is never bored?, or one who writes? or one that can amuse himself?
lol
he can amuse himself sometimes just wish he would leave me alone an let me do what i want
a writer wouldnt be so bad lol
i can never tell if he is bored but he is anal
remember... Rule #1: never, ever trust a writer; we tell lies for a living and , after a while we become very good at it:)
i would think it depends on what teh person writes
we being anal, or an arse as a hobby is definitely not a good thing.
he has never been like this before just within the past two yrs i would say he drives me up a wall
for example, i am a horrible person today; I just gleefully and with no remorse whatsoever killed off one of my main protagonists today:)
how nice of you to do that
I cannot speak for all men, but from what i have seen, we tend to get a tad grumpy and withdrawn as we age... unless we have a hobby to keep us in the thick of things
i need a hobby i have one but hard to do with cat around and no money to get other jigsaw puzzles or a place to keep the puzzle while its not completed
but a hobby away from him would be nice. he used to play pool but that was a few yrs ago(wince we lived here that is)
use Jigidi while waiting for the real thing:)
I have two very nice puzzles up as we speak for you to have a go at
no thanks i want to do the real thing
a happy couple has their seperate interests
so we need to get him a hobby:)
Do you mount and hang your puzzles?
as long as he is here and not somewhere else i am fine with that
and he doesnt tell me or show me things i dont give a poop about
i used t glue them but those ae all in the trash a long time ago. the last one i did is back in the box apart
both of them rather
want to keep him busy and under your wing at the same time? Buy him a old classic car that he always dreamed of owning, but make it a fixer-upper and give him all the manuals to go with it. After that he will almost live in the garage:)
i cant afford a car of any kind and he is good a cars he shows me and tells me everything
cross do you have the no 5 i think its the 2nd?
i have one of them
When i get an urge for a real jig-saw, i get mine from the second hand store; 50 cents a puzzle;) they have stacks of them, but it is buyer beware as to if a piece is missing or not:)
exactly lol
seems that i have no n's whatsoever. i best get busy!
lol its the only no i need and cant find it
last one I did had one piece missing, so I gave my better half the cover art on the outside of the box, a balsa-wood piece i had cut out in the shape of the missing piece, and she drew it up for me:) it was a perfect fit and looked rather nice:)
talented arent you?:)
no, she has the paint/drawing/caligraphy talents, not I
no plus wear a hair *** when u cook
oh correction, i need 4 more n words oops
ty ivesy needed that too
yw
i need one more fo rthird column N and 2 for the other
oh well i am going ot get going not sure if i will be back or not 58 left bye cross and ivesy poof
"i spin the tales but it is she who will draw you a picture about what is going on lol
tc mlf
"life is like a jig-saw puzzle with a few pieces missing, when you come across the rough spots, sometimes you must get creative to overcome adversity"- Crosshair :)
when i work with kids, sometimes i give them each a few puzzle pieces to put together as a group, but always have a few pieces missing - i tell them that's the part of them that's not finished learning
very nice, kalea;)
i like our analogy also, crossy
your, even
tell the kids that it is a lifelong process anyways, and that if they are very lucky they will never finish learning something new each and every day:)
agreed
could anyone give me a clue for the au9 pls?
i just got back from local nursing home..doing a 6 week class teaching seniors to write poetry..........they never stop learning either
a mineral named in honor of pride and prejudice, kalea
as it so happens, i will be taking that up, as well as many other forms of writing in my university writers craft class this september:)
sorry, that's a really wonky clue, let me know if you need more. (and it is for rolin, not kalea) i should go take a nap!!!
nice clue Dorens.............was trying figure out how to clue it
thanks
good for you, crossy...........it's loads of fun
lol..great clue...ty
i am sure I shall have a great time of it, since my preferred style of writing leans more towards the creative side that the structured side of things.
lol......i'm back in school too, on a whole different road.......early childhood education
not that I cannot do tightly controlled structured writing, but a fenced in crossy is an unhappy crossy
yaa for kalea!
i do crossy............love the creative stuff
what age group you focusing on, kalea?
right now i work with all ages, but my schooling is mostly infant to school-age
ahh, pre-school and JK. Very nice
but 3-5's mostly
still..........i still plan to continue with teens as well
ahh yes, spending had the class time in the winter getting everyones winter clothing on and off for recess;)))
lol
but i would love to take a writing class just for fun
If I were a teacher, i think i would want to be in the age bracket right when they are learning to read. I think, as a teacher, there must be nothing finer when helping a child strugling with reading a book, there comes that day when you can almost see the light bulb go on over-top of their heads and before you know it, the child is carrying out stacks of books from the library;))
lol........my oldest daughter gets that thrill
I do not even know the name of my teacher who taught me to read, not her face. i cannot even remember the sound of her voice, but that woman gave me the biggest gift a person can give to another; the love of reading.
absolutely
most of my kids could read before school, because i loved teaching it to them so much
It is sad. i taught my son to read as a child, but as an adult it seems he can take it or leave it
a couple of my kids are like that, but most love it still
the invention of ereaders just brought it to a whole new level as far as i am concerned. Now I am not limited with my reading choices. I can carry hundreds of stories wherever i go, whereas before I had weight limitations to consider;)
Ever try and travel with 20 hardcover books? It was not fun:)
lol.......i still do that
lol. taking two extra suitcases for a weekend away is a thing i shall not miss.
when i visit the kids, i take a couple for the flight, and buy more in the states
I envy those from the victorian era and into the turn of the last century. When they traveled, they just got some poor soul to stuff a few steamer trunks full of stuf and they were off!:)
lol....but books were not so easily obtained
no, they were not. Think of standing on some pier, in the rain, waiting the the next excerpt of some chapter play by Mr. Clemons:)
yikes...i can't even buy a trilogy book without buying all
there were a lot of good writers, but you had to know where to look; Cpt. Marryat, Poe, Verne etc.
love Poe and Verne, don't know Marryat
hehe, Imagine waiting three months for part 6 of 20 to arrive by steamer lol
you would do well to look up Cpt. marryats works but only if you like tales of the sea
*shudders at the thought*
don't know what you are missing:)
i might do that..........i enjoyed others of that genre
the shudders were for the waiting
it is a rare writer of sea tales, who after reading for a bit can actually make you feel the motion of the deck and the salt spray of the approaching stom upon your lips.
Do you Know any of farley Mowats works?
I highly, highly recommend that you read two novellas of his that he wrote in the 50's: one is called grey seas Under and the second part is called The Serpoents Coil.
a long time ago.....should read them again......the benefit of poor memory is the books are all new again
both great stories
sepents
will lookfor them
i can no longet type today it seems.5000 words in my book and my fingers now have a mind of their own
Serpent's**
lol......you are not alone in that
each one can be read in just a night or two but they are ones you will find yourself reading again and again. Time/life magazine brought both of these novellas back out in hardcover in the 70's and you can often find them cheaply online
www.biblio.com is my go-to for specific used books on the cheap
thanks for the info....will try that site
you can set you price, quality and location parameters into it and search for the book you are after. Often the shipping is more than the cost of the actual novel
I tend to select middle of the road as far as grading and overall condition goes. i want a book i can read without it falling apart in my hands, but not a copy in so rare of a condition that i am afraid to touch it. lol
i agree with you there
someone gave me a book that is so old i haven't dared to read it yet for fear i will ruin it
if it is truly rare, you may consider having it rebound> I think it is our very own Gwen that offers that service
hmmmmmmmm........not a bad idea
but i may be mistaken. i do recall that one babbler was into book rebinding though
would that lower the value?
It would alter its value to be sure, but it is no good as it is. Check with her. She deals in rare books and doccuments for a living and can advise better than I
thinking how valuable is a book if one is afraid to actually read it
as I said, it is no good as it is.
there are some rare tomes out there to be sure:)
sure are.......and that's one of the things i would miss with an ereader........i love old books
for example a copy of the very forst book written in the english language came up for auction not long ago. it is one of 18 survivling copies and when the aution hammer fell, it sold for just over a million dollars
first
lol........out of my league
out of mine as well:)
I have both. Bookcase full of books for home and an ereader for travel or when i wish to read in bed and not disturb my beloved with a light on
hubby just got a tablet with ereader in it...........says i can have his kobo if i want
ahh yes, that old book smell. i love it but some do not.
well, if you choose to come over to the dark side, let me know via email with your favorite authors and i can get you started with a selection of e-books
hello all

Could have said asses but then the RSPCA would be onto her :)
Don't be drawn to state your preferences Molly, lol
Soodle simply can't win. She will have to sit with her eyes shut
I have it on good authority that a fine looking man in tight jeans never escapes Soodle's scrutiny.
LOL Chrissie
I don't blame her. her fave is Colin Firth
good evening.

can someone clue the an 6/24 please?
I could clue it, an6 could clue it really
duh...ty!
It's not a duh. It's stacked up very weird in the grid.
yes, and my brains are a little fried....only have two more to find...
Fried brains or not, that is a hard word to see.
funny how some words just aren't visible at times....
Not too many people read left up, left, left, down.
true...
especially Sean Hannity
and Bill O'Reilly
can't find my last word....te 7/28?
i may have to close the window....a bit cool here...
Sea bird, charged particle
seabird + charged particle
Oh cool, it's a little chorus
ty....TITT, but i guess not!
GMTA
and i got it with only one clue! ;o)
Sorry but you can't think you have it if it's not in your word list : P
yes, but when i am typing frantically, i don't keep looking at the word list...
what is TITT?
thought I tried that? what is GMTA? grey matter totally AWOL?
thought i tried that...
But don't you look at your word list when you are looking for your last word?
Great Minds Think Alike.. ms. Smartypants :D
I don't. If I think I tried something, I don't check the word list to see if it's there. but I could be aberrant
ah, it also could have been good morning to all. in fact that's what I thought it was.
same here, dorens...
OLHWG
I have to check the word list cuz at the flip sometimes words don't go through even though you've typed them
ok pen, you and I can share the aberrance
I'm afraid to Ask Molly
That happens all day Rue
Rue?
yup...
strasse....road....
boulevard, street
I still haven't figured out how you can get a word, it appears in your word list and then...sometime later...it's gone
so ru, we made an offer on the apt. Suze Orman be damned. waiting till tomorrow to hear what they say
oh.. wow. I hope it works out
one can mistype....the cursor could have been in the wrong place....
nope.. that isn't it penq
new york real estate is absolutely insane
No Pen, I watch my word list. It appears in the word list, and then later when I play, that word is not there.
well.. SF is about the same
that has happened to me too, but I think it is sometimes from one computer to the other, even when I refresh
me, too....
the way it works is they take the bids after the openhouse. then they allo
I have a friend who offered full asking price on a house in SF. .$989,00.. and was out bid by a Twitter employee for $1.39 million
allow you to make your "best bid" not knowing what the others were, and then....
well. depends on the financing too doren
our bid was above the asking price; it really was low. I saw other places for more money that weren't nearly as nice.
yes it does, which is why I'm involved. The coop board is very picky about $$. they won't consider a bid if you can't show like $60 K liquid assets. How many people looking for a one bedroom have that???
yup
our house goes on the market soon too
so tomorrow we'll see.... and then again, if we get it, we'll never know how much less our offer could have been
that should be very exciting. hope you get bidding wars!!
good luck
thanks. you'll hear us screaming in joy if it works!!
here's hoping to that.. a neighboring house that is over 1,000 square feet smaller than ours sold for 1M up the block
well allrighty then!
Doren, are you and a significant other looking to rent a new place?
no molly, my daughter is trying to buy a coop in Brooklyn, and I'm going to help her out a bit.
Oh okay, good luck with that. Sounds tricky.
thanks. it is. very
I'm heading out to do some food shopping... good luck Doren... Hope it works out
thanks. i'm heading out to walk before it is totally dark here.
is the sa6 a commonly used word?
no
at least not in my universe....
can I get a clue pls?
ru ru; reading back on your real estate post. Down south of me in Toronto, vacancy rates for fully detached 2 bedroom homes in desirable neighbourhoods had stood at 1% for last 5 years that I know of. it is not uncommon for a 50 something child to inherit a home their parents bought in the city in the 50's for ten grand. they then turn around and list it for $750 k to 850 k. They show to 25 or 30 people and a bidding war ensues. last one I heard of was first offered for 700k. After the dust settled it sold for 350k OVER the inital asking price making the son who now owned it an instant millionare
mm, ru may have left already but oh well...
do you have sa 4/5?....add a vowel and a consonant to that...
ty pen.
I thought I'd tried every permutation, but I guess not :)
I'm done.
Hoorah for Harry
yw...congrats!
Hi all :)
Congrats, Harry
... mother bought a three bedroom bungalow in North TOronto for 22500 in 1957 ... sold it for 643000 in '04 ... replaced it with a similar house north of city for 450000 ... I get to sell it now ... I'm asking 800000 ... 'll settle for 750000 if I can avoid realtor fees by selling to a contractor who will tear it down ...
Current real estate will never appreciate as much as it did for our parents.
tadone!! finito!!
whooo hoooo HH!
Congrats, lbd :)
Clue for the last re 6/7 pls?
re + fork prong...
congrats, lb...
Have that - there's a pair of them after that.
If you don't like your shoes, you can re6 them
Thanks - looking
what she said...
Duh! Simple!!!! Thanks.
ty, ty, ty, ponderous grid.
Again, it's not duh. Unless you read to the left, up and down.
finding this a tough grid - 16 left.
And thanks for the encouragement, Molly.
I just don't know why people say that. Some words in these grids are very hard to see.
I think because sometimes when a word is so simple, not a weird word, you just feel that you should've seen it.
I agree, but not when it's stacked up like that one.
It was a bit twisty!
Most of us are clever, but we are not all brainiacs. : D
Well, I know I'm not ;)
Some odd words today - that re 6/7 wasn't but the sm 5/20 was!
heading out...goodnight all!
Have a good evening pen
ty!...bye!
Fireworks!
yaa for liz!!
Hi again all, lets get these last 69 in the next hour :)
Good evening Babblers. I am looking for my last 59
And my lost shaker of salt.
Hope you find the 59 and the shaker.
I have salt, I need a margarita
I am trying to be careful with my flip-flops.
Fins to the right, Wht
My last two were so obvious and simple words - can't believe I didn't see them right off the bat.
No fins here. Massachusetts just passed a law making it illegal to cut fins off sharks.
Same here, Dianne. missed an obvious vegetable in the grid
Sadly, my Jimmy Buffet reference bit the dust.
Sorry, Molly. I am dense sometimes, and oblivious at others. And I don't have his entire oevre memorized.
I didn't think that vegetable was that obvious.
well, I had the words before it and after it :0
Oeuvre, what a word : )
I would hate it if I ever found it in the grid. :^)
Of course I wouldn't find it until after I had three clues.
help please, is there an "a4" that's not on lickety?
